Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is the Region one Sports Report with Brian York
on ninety nine to five the Fas.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
And away we go in your Friday edition of the show.
It is a Friday, October twenty fourth edition of the
Region one Sports Report. I'm Brian Yorke. I hope you're
doing fine and well and doing great on a Friday.
I'm doing great. It's a feel good Friday. It's football Friday.
It's gonna feel like football Friday. The weather is going
to be very fall football weather e tonight. By the way,
(00:37):
you can get a touch with us anywhere on social
media that we are on X, on Twitter, on whatever
you call it, on Facebook, on Instagram, and on the
text line. You can text us two seven oh five
three four forty three eight two seven oh five three
four forty three oh eight. And again, it is football Friday.
That is the heart of the show today. And like
I said, it is gonna feel like it. Even last night,
(00:59):
I was kind of prepping I'm gonna be out of
town this weekend for our last travel ball tournament of
the year in baseball, which looks like we're gonna play
half a weekend, but nonetheless gonna be out of town
and was planning for that, looking ahead to tonight's weather
to know what to what to dress for, what I'm
in for. It's gonna be chilly, you're talking, you know,
(01:20):
fifty nine at six pm. It's gonna be about fifty
five degrees at seven pm, and then about fifty three
by the end of the football game. So in the
fifties tonight. That's a nice cool night for football. Long sleeve,
maybe a vest I don't know if I'm gonna go
quite full on sweatshirt, but it is gonna feel more
like football weather tonight. You know, now that we're in
(01:41):
the final two weeks of the regular season, it'll finally
feel like some football weather tonight. But that's all right,
and that's why we feel good on this Friday weekend football.
I mean, what else could you want? Hey, real quick,
I'm gonna tell I had a really busy, long, stressful
day yesterday. There's just a lot of things going on
in my personal life, a lot of things moving right now,
(02:04):
and some potential new adventures on the horizon. And I
had a zoom meeting, the first one I've had in
five years, I mean since since COVID. But I had
to have a Zoom meeting with somebody who obviously doesn't
live here. And the meeting time came around, and it
was going to be at three o'clock my time, our time.
(02:24):
They're in a different time zone, so it was a
different time for them, and so at you know, two
fifty eight, two fifty nine, I go ahead and click
to join the call. So I'm there, I'm I'm waiting.
I'm you know, excited and ready, and you know, not
trying to be right on time, just a moment early.
But it's a zoom meeting, not an in person meeting.
And I clicked to join, and I get the message
(02:46):
the host has not started this meeting yet. I'm like, okay, great.
So I'm just sitting there waiting, checking the camera, and
you know, again, I haven't had a Zoom meeting in
five years. In fact, I even practiced having a Zoom
meeting yesterday just because I haven't had one in so long.
And you know, I'm sitting there and five minutes goes by,
nothing's changed, ten minutes goes by, nothing's changed. At this point,
I panic a little bit. I leave the meeting, reset
(03:09):
my my I it's on my iPad. I reset the
app on my iPad. I go back into the meeting
just to make sure, and it gives me the same message.
The host has not started this meeting yet. Fifteen minutes,
twenty minutes goes by. Finally, at about forty five minutes
after the meeting started out, I started to realize, I
don't think this is gonna happen. I don't think I
don't think this person is gonna is gonna show up
(03:29):
and start the meeting. So there's that. My entire afternoon
centered around. I gotta be present. I've got to look presentable.
I've got to have this very important meeting at three o'clock.
And then it, for whatever reason, it didn't happen. So
that was my day yesterday. I'm not blaming them. I
don't know what happened. We're trying to get to the
bottom of it so we can reschedule and do it again.
And that was very nerve wracking, and it was a
(03:51):
very intense and long recognizing forty five minutes to finally go,
I don't think it's gonna happen. So that that was
my Thursday. I'm hoping for a better day today. I'm
hoping for a less stressful day today as we roll
into our Friday, and it should be. It should be
because we've got football. We've got everything I said earlier,
good weather or cooler weather and football and everything that
(04:14):
comes with it. But that's been my day. That's kind
of been my week in a nutshell. So if anybody's
excited for a weekend break, this guy right here, I'm
raising my hand. You can't see it, but I am,
and I'm excited and ready for it. I'm excited and
ready for my travel baseball team's final weekend of the fall.
We've played three weekends in a row. It's been a flash.
We only played half a weekend last weekend. It looks
(04:34):
like we're in for the same thing this weekend. We
might get a couple of fool play games in, but man,
are they calling for some widespread rain and heavy rain
and lots of rain on Sunday. So that'll be fun,
that's exciting. But nonetheless, here we are end of the week,
which means football again tonight. We do have, by the way,
not just football. So going on girls soccer McCracken County,
we'll talk about them in a moment. They are in
(04:56):
the state tournament in the Elite eight. We'll talk about
their match up here in just a little bit, which
is tomorrow, and then when we come back on Monday
after the weekend break, we have volleyball Regional Tournament. I
talked about the district tournament, the winners and runners up.
We now have the seatings. We now know who plays
and when they play in the Volleyball Regional Tournament, so
(05:19):
let's talk about it. All. The action is going to
be at Callaway County High School next week. They'll have
the auxiliary gym running two games on Monday night, the
main gym running two games on Monday night. And here
are your matchups. So when we come back, this is
what we'll be breaking down and looking at. You have
Graves County District winner taken on Callaway County the host school,
but a district runner up that's Monday night five thirty
(05:42):
in the auxiliary gym. That'll be followed by Hickman County
district winner taken on CCA, a district runner up that
is set for seven to twenty in the auxiliary gym.
Over in the main gym at five thirty, you have
Marshall County District winner taking on Ballard Memorial a district
runner up. And then following that at about seven to
(06:03):
twenty in the main gym, you'll have McCracken County their
district winner, taken on Carlisle County, a district runner up.
So again Graves will take on Callaway, Hickman and Cca.
That's in the auxiliary gym, Marshall and Ballard, and then
McCracken and Carlisle that is in the main gym. The
big matchup really of that first round when you look
at it as Ballard and Marshall, you look at how
(06:25):
volleyball has kind of shaken out this season, and that's
not to sleep on, you know, Graves in Callaway and
any of these other matchups, but you know Callaway's good,
Graves is good like that, that could be a really
good win. But you look at Marshall and Ballard, Ballard
twenty four and eight on the year, Marshall nineteen and five.
Ballard's had the better season record wise, Ballard has been
a little bit of a power in the region the
(06:45):
last few years. And then Marshall County though goes in
as the district winner, Ballard the runner up. Again that
Ballard got upset by my lady Eagles in the district tournament.
And so here you are with this really fun first
round matchup. And then like I said, you look at
Graves who got hot in the district tournament, beat Mayfield
in the first round to play Ballard, then beat the
host school Ballad, which is still an incredible tournament accomplishment.
(07:10):
They're sixteen and eleven. They play the host school of
this tournament, Callaway at seventeen and fifteen. That should be
a good win. So don't sleep on the volleyball regional
tournament next week. It's gonna be good. And you start
off with that first round. There's some good matchups there
and it's gonna be I think, quite a fun and
interesting tournament next week again, starting on Monday, the winners
(07:32):
of those games will play the next night. They'll play
on Tuesday, and then the championship will be on Thursday.
So that's what you have to look forward to next week. Now,
as far as none other non football, au guess traditional
football and soccer, we still have that going on. As
far as one of our Region one team is still
alive and kicking no pun intended. In the state tournament,
(07:56):
you have McCracken County on the girls side coach Mike
Lane team they are facing Sacred Heart, and they will
face Sacred Heart tomorrow at home. I do believe is
the first time they've ever hosted a state tournament game.
But they get Sacred Heart at home. That is something
to keep in mind because Sacred Heart is a monster,
a juggernaut that's about as good as it gets in
(08:17):
the state. But they got to come to McCracken County tomorrow.
That is a six pm game. If you've got nothing
going on, Like I said, I'll be out of town
unfortunately for my last travel ball weekend. If not, I
would be there. Listen, McCracken County, hear me out. I've
been invited several times to come out to your things
in soccer and girls soccer specifically. I would absolutely be
(08:37):
there tomorrow night, rooting for you, cheering you on, and
covering that game the best that I could if I
was in town. Unfortunately I'm not, but I will be
following along from Jackson, Tennessee. The good news is our
team doesn't play at that time, so I can check
it out. I can track it and keep up with it.
But they take on Sacred Heart. That is again tomorrow,
(08:58):
six o'clock. If you've got nothing something else going on
and you're in the area, get out there, Just get
out there. Pack it. I mean Sacred Heart out of
Region seven, one of the favorites in the state. They
are coming to McCracken County to play a state tournament game.
Go see it, Go check it out, Go support the
Lady must sinks tomorrow. Sacred Heart. By the way, in
case you're wondering, they are twenty one to two and
(09:20):
one on the regular season. McCracken County will go into
that matchup twelve seven and two. But they've gotten hot
at the right time and that's all that matters. So
that's tomorrow. Okay, gotta take a break. We'll be back.
We'll get into some football and more when we come back.
Plenty more to go on this Friday edition of the show.
This is Region one Sports. Sometimes it happens, someone has
(09:43):
to deal with it. And who are you gonna call?
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Brian York on ninety million to five The fan.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Reagon on Sports as we roll along on your Friday
edition of the shows, talking about my mishaps earlier, Hoping
for a better day to day and it's going to
be a good day. Because it's football Friday, week nine
of the football season. I haven't had to stop in
Pauls for a minute. The officially the ninth week of
high school football in the state of Kentucky. Everybody entering
their eighth game of the regular season. We've got two left,
(10:22):
that's it. So essentially, you know, a lot of teams
will have right now three games left, some some have
only got these next two games. We'll start, you know.
And I was talking with somebody yesterday and they asked
about basketball, and I said, if you listen to the
show earlier this week, you know that once we get
past the first week of the playoffs in football, we
will start to go pretty heavy into basketball. That's not
(10:45):
to say that after next week, after we wrap up
regional tournament and volleyball, after we wrap up McCracken County's
run in the state tournament in soccer, and once we
get into that final week of the regular season for football,
it's not to say that we won't start talking basketball,
but we will go basketball heavy here in just a
few weeks. The officially the first week of the playoffs.
(11:07):
You know, after that wraps up, we'll really be basketball
heavy here on the show. So if that's what you're
in for, or that's what you're looking forward to, then
you don't have very far to look. Maybe we'll see,
but yeah, that's that's on the horizon. Because we are
in that final week of the football season. Now, we've
got some good matchups tonight. Unfortunately, though, I do think
we've got some matchups that are gonna be, uh, you know,
(11:29):
all chalk and not a lot of drama, not a
lot of intrigue. And we'll go through these and I'll
tell you which ones those are as we go through it,
I'll make my picks predictions, and we'll lay it out
and preview these games for your week not of the
football season matchup. So we will start and I think
this is a big matchup. I don't think, unfortunately, it's
gonna end up being as close a game as as
(11:49):
the records indicate, as the seasons have indicated. But I
do think this is a very cool matchup tonight. You've
got for a football Paduka Tillman traveling to Callaway County.
Why is the big because for the first time in
a long time, Calloway County has a winning record. They're
trying to maintain a winning record in the regular season.
(12:10):
They are five and three going into tonight's game. That's
crazy five and three for Calloway County taking on and
hosting Paduka Tillman again. Tilman won loss on the season.
The upset to Madisonville kind of a head scratcher. Listen.
I know Graves lost to Madisonville and overtime. I'm not
all that impressed with Madisonville. I don't think they are
(12:30):
that good, but they still got Tilman earlier this season.
That's the lone hiccup for Paduka Tillman. Calloway County has
had an incredible season. It's been well documented here on
this show. You know, I'm a fan. You know, I'm
excited and happy and everything in between for Calloway County
and the year they're having. But they have an opportunity.
They five wins right now. They are trying to get
(12:52):
that winning record. They are trying to finally get over
that hump and get back in the winning side of things,
which I haven't looked. I'll try to look during the break.
Somebody's probably gonna scream it to me. You can text
it to me. The last time they had a winning record,
but they're on track, they have a shot. It's still
going to be very tough because you've got Puduka, Tilman
(13:13):
and I at home. They are Tilman the heavy, heavy favorite.
I don't think you're gonna get that sixth win tonight.
I just don't. I'll go ahead and spoil it. But
you've got a shot with Marshall County next week. And again,
like I said, still not going to be easy. But
Callaway County. The worst they're going to finish this year
in the regular season is five hundred. But I mean
(13:35):
think about this. You go get that win, you go
beat two opportunities left, you beat one of them, which
I think right now I would lean towards Marshall County.
But you beat Marshall County next week, get the sixth win,
probably got a real good shot to win that first
round playoff game. Seven wins season, then you guarantee, no
matter what happens after that, that you had a winning
(13:55):
record overall in the season. That's the spot they are
in after being out of the win column for so long. Now,
good doesn't mean great. Tilman's great. Tilman's great, and that's
that's why tonight it's gonna be tough. Let's look at
the matchup though, because again I think it's worthy of
talking about. Callaway comes in five and three. They're a
(14:16):
good football team, the Lakers. On the season. They're good
because they run the ball well. Logan Smith won a
phenomenal senior year. Twelve hundred and ninety two yards total.
He's averaging one sixty two a game seventeen rushing touchdowns.
Good for that kid. There are guys that start for
three years at running back and don't get seventeen rushing touchdowns.
(14:36):
He's doing it in a season. As a team, Callawai
County won ninety nine a game with twenty three rushing touchdowns.
They don't throw the football poorly either, when when their
quarterback you know, is healthy. Matthew's been pretty good. Sixteen touchdowns,
eight picks. He's thrown for over thirteen hundred yards. That's
one hundred and seventy two yards per game. Not bad.
(14:58):
Pretty good receiver too. We don't talk about this kid enough.
Darkas has been pretty good four to ninety one total
in the season with seven total receiving touchdowns. He's a senior,
by the way, A most knight. Those those guys, those
numbers that'll get it done Tonight's not most Knights tonight,
it's one of those unique Knights. Paduka Tilman comes into
(15:20):
this game again, heavy favorite, even on the road, and
I don't think they're gonna take Callowey lightly. I think
they're looking at Callowe and going, hey, they they know
they're good. They believe we're gonna We're gonna stop belief tonight.
That's that's their mission. Seven to one. On the season.
At quarterback, stone Crow as a senior has been really good.
Twenty five touchdowns, eleven picks, twenty two hundred yards passing.
(15:40):
That's two to seventy five a game on the ground
as a team, one p fifty nine a game with
eighteen rushing touchdowns. You know, Calloway's top receiver at about
four hundred and something yards per game. Tilman's got two dudes,
two dudes that have over seven hundred yards receiving each.
They both average ninety plus yards per game. That's tough.
You got one dude that does it, it's already hard enough.
(16:02):
You got two. It's almost impossible to defend, especially on
that level, and that'll be a big difference. No, not I
do think Tilman wins. I do think they win kind
of big, but that not taking anything away from Callaway
County because for you, the real sort of put all
your eggs in one basket kind of comes next week
to get that six win against Marshall County. We'll talk
(16:22):
about that next week. So Timman Callaway, I think that's
should be an intriguing matchup to not I think that
should be more of a game of the Week than
some other games that have been picked. But that one,
to me, is intriguing. Then we go to one that
I don't think is as intriguing. You've got to let's
go to two A football. You've got Mayfield and Fort Campbell.
(16:42):
You know, Mayfield one loss on the year to Tillman
that since then, they've been really good. In fact, they've
been you know, Creatin County has not been bad this season,
Caldwell County has not been bad this season, but Kraken
County has turned out to be really good, especially offensively,
and they have thought humped every one of those teams.
And I think you're gonna get the same thing tonight.
(17:04):
I think it's gonna feel very similar. Fort Campbell the
opponent tonight, the Falcons will leave the base and they
will come to Mayfield. On the season, they throw the
football at just one hundred nine yards per game, twelve touchdowns,
ten picks. They do run the football well. They've got
a pretty good running back in Dixon. The senior has
got twelve hundred plus yards on the season. As a team,
they average one ninety nine per game with fifteen rushing touchdowns.
(17:28):
The Cardinals the host team, and the team I think
will win by three or four scores easily. They run
the football at one nineteen a game, twenty one rushing touchdowns.
They throw the football at two to twenty eight arm
sorry to twelve a game, with twenty four touchdowns two interceptions.
That's not Gray Robbins, though, the junior quarterback, with one
seventy three per game, eighteen touchdowns, no picks, thirteen eighty
(17:52):
two officially in the air. Mayfield wins. They win big.
They're at home Fort Campbell. Fort Campbell kind of got
good the last few years, or at least a couple
of years ago. Yeah, they're not as good this year,
and they're back in the district, and that they got
to face Mayfield, and that ain't gonna be fun. Mayfield's
gonna win big. All right, I'll tell you what I'm
actually up against the commercial break, I'm running a little behind,
(18:13):
so let me take the break. That'll give us more time.
In the third segment, we'll come back. So many more games,
and we've got some games that should be good, should
be intriguing, should be close. We'll talk about it when
we come back. This is Region one.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
Region one Sports.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Nope, it's not Ashton Coucher.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
It's Brian York, equally handsome, equally smart. On ninety nine
to five, The Fair to my five. He did the monster.
It was a graveyard.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Smile. Region one Sports. As we roll along on your
Friday edition of the show. That's right, it's not Ashton Coucher,
but I'm I'm just as cool. Brian Yorke here on
your Friday edition of the show. Let's look more football games.
We've talked to Tilman and Callaway. I don't think you
should you know, I mean you should give its due.
Callaway is good, they come in, they host tonight. I
(19:04):
just think Tilman's too much. Then you've got Mayfield and
Fort Campbell. Listen, it's going to go the exact same way.
The last four or five weeks have gone for Mayfield,
bigs lots of points for Mayfield, hardly any, if if
any for Fort Campbell. Mayfield rolls big tonight looking around
and looking at some games that should be closer, at
least more intriguing. How about McCracken County going to Henderson
(19:25):
County tonight. That's a main event match up. McCracken goes
to Henderson. These are two district rivals, two district foes,
two good programs meeting tonight Henderson County. The Colonels forget
who they are. Remember they tend to run a very
different style of offense, a lot of counters, a lot
of you know, option looks, try to do things to
(19:47):
kind of see what you're doing, and try to run
from your strengths and run to your weaknesses. The Colonels
come in at four and four in this matchup, and
again they host. That's what makes it tough. Ninety four
yards per game passing for their quarterback, seven touchdowns, five interceptions.
They run the football as a team at one seventy
(20:08):
one per game with nineteen rushing touchdowns. Nobody on their
stat sheet just pops off the page. Nothing looks amazing.
They do have a pretty decent defense, but you're gonna
have to have a great defense because I'm just gonna
tell you from the tape i've seen and from what
i've seen from McCracken, they don't have any interest in
really hone it in on their defense. They're just gonna
(20:29):
outscore you, and they know it. And I'm not saying
they don't try. I'm not saying they don't play good defense.
At times. They just know they're gonna be able to
roll in and outscore you. And I think that'll be
the case tonight now that it's on the road, it's
at Henderson. But I don't think Henderson's gonna be able
to necessarily stop McCracken County and Henderson's offense. Although at
times they did score sixty seven on Christian County, who's
(20:51):
not great. They did score forty four on Central Harden,
who's not great, but that's been it. They've only had
one other game where they've scored even close to thirty,
and that was a loss to Hopkinsville. Every other score
has been two touchdowns or less. And that even comes
in two wins. That ain't happening. Tonight. If you're tonight
(21:13):
relying on we're gonna stop McCracken and we're gonna keep it,
it's gonna be twenty one to fourteen, you're crazy. And
that's why McCracken County wins tonight. Their offense is just
too much. I mean, McCracken County has scored at least
hear me when I say this. Turn your radio up,
turn your speaker up, and hear me when I say this.
McCracken County has has scored at least forty nine points
(21:34):
in five of their last six games. At least forty
nine points in five of their last six games. One
of those was a loss. So they're gonna score. If
they're gonna lose, it ain't because they're not scoring. Yeah,
that's insane. Looking at their offense overall, looking at Coach
Brooks's team going into this matchup tonight, going on the road,
(21:57):
the Mustangs throwing the football at two twenty seven per game,
O'Neill is two h six per game with twenty two
touchdowns five interceptions as a team, running the football at
one sixty six per game with nineteen rushing touchdowns. Landon Newman,
who has come on strong in his senior year at
ninety eight yards and ten touchdowns. So ninety eight yards
per game with ten touchdowns, and then we don't talk
(22:19):
about Matcham and Lanier enough ninety six yards a game
for Jakari and then jud Lanier at seventy three a
game receiving. That's where McCracken is good. They're just gonna
roll in and outscore Henderson and score too much for
Henderson to keep up with. Tonight, the only caveat the
only thing that gives me pause, that makes me think,
(22:41):
that makes me wonder, is it's on the road, and
Henderson County is a prideful football team. Outside of that
neutral field, McCracken County rolls this one by three three
touchdowns easy, you know, not easy, but at least three touchdowns,
not a neutral field. We'll see how that plays. That's
mccrack Henderson night. Another one I think will be at
(23:03):
least competitive, although I do expect my Eagles to win.
Graves County plays host to Muhlenberg County tonight. This is
not your dad's Muhlnberg County team. In fact, this ain't
even your Muhlnberg County team. This is a different Muhlnberg
County team already, just from a year ago. The Mustangs
of Muhlenberg County. They are four and four. Now, I
(23:23):
get it, they are winless in district play, but they've
had some close games. Apollo, who now sits in the
second seed of arguably one of the toughest districts in
the state of any class. Apollo only beat them thirty
four to twenty one. That's a ballgame. That's competitive. That
was a blowout last season, and Apollo's better this season.
(23:44):
Last season, Apollo, who's not as good as they are
this season, beat Meliberg County forty one to nothing. The
year before that, they beat meliber County forty one to nothing.
This game this season, thirty four to twenty one. All right,
Marshall did beat them twenty three twenty one. So if
your Graves County, that's where you're feeling good. We just
beat Marshall and simply put, Graves was the better team
(24:07):
all around last week. So if you're Graves, that's where
you feel good. But Milinberg County feels good too. This
is a different Mulnberg County team four and four coming
into this game. Looking at the Mustangs, and you know,
they've done a rebuild job. They basically kind of took
the group they've got now and they just started building
with these guys, and they took their losses and they
graduated guys ahead of them to take the you know
(24:29):
that they needed to take losses. And then now here
they are with a really good group that they've been
working with. One and twelve yards passing per game, eight touchdowns,
one interception. They run the football at two hundred and
five yards per game with seventeen rushing touchdowns. The key
is a kid named Klay Wilkin. The quarterback. Not only
does throw the football well and he's very efficient in
(24:52):
when he throws the football, but he's their leading rusher
at fifty four yards per game and seven rushing touchdowns.
He leads them overall four hundred and thirty two yards
rushing on the season. The only thing he doesn't do
is catch the football. And they've got a pretty good
receiver sixty one yards per game, five receiving touchdowns for Baskerville,
I think that's how you say his name, Brayden Baskerville BB.
(25:14):
We'll just call him BB to not on the badcast.
If you tune into my broadcast. You hear me say
BB that's who I'm talking about. Pretty good receiver. Outside
of that, not as good. But they do things, man,
They run some things. They throw you different formations and
they try to keep you confused in off balance. This
is not going to be a give me for Graves. Now.
They should win, and they should win. You know, you
(25:35):
go back to last week with Marshall County and the
should have, would have, could as I don't really like
playing that game too much, but Graves should have two
more touchdowns in that game. They should have won that
game forty two to ten, maybe even forty two to three.
Marshall popped a really good play call on them with
the reverse, a really good play call. They set it
(25:56):
up well, they executed it phenomenally, so we'll give them
their credit. But Graves had two touchdowns. Kind of taken back.
They had two opportunities to score inside the five yard
line and could not get it in. In fact, couldn't
even get a field goal. So that's a little concerning,
but that shows you where Graves was, relatively speaking, all
(26:17):
not long. So they should be in for a game
like that tonight. They should be in for a game
where they moved the football and they score in Their offense,
who has improved every week, looks good and their defense
has been phenomenal, and this should be a game they
win in the end a little more comfortably. But the
worry is this is going to be competitive. You look
(26:38):
at Graves. Their defense has been phenomenal all season long,
but you look at their offense and it's come around
now overall in the season. My Eagles throwing the football
at one hundred and one yards per game, three touchdowns,
eight picks. That's just not good. That's just not where
you want to see it. But it's gotten better. Not
explain in a moment. Eighty two yards rushing per game,
ten rushing touchdowns. Again, they're often is averaging one hundred
(27:00):
and eighty two yards per game. Not great at Apollo
in a low scoring loss. They had over two hundred
yards of offense at Marshall County last week in a
win where they again should have had more points. Credit
and by the way, credit to Marshall's defense. Marshall's defense
basically said, a fine, get inside the five, get inside
(27:22):
the ten, get inside the red zone. It'll shorten the
field for us. And we can sell out and we
can do things and you're not going to score. And
it worked. But their offense last week, Graves that is,
had over three hundred yards of offense, so two hundred
yards of the week before, their best offensive output of
the season, over three hundred last week. They're getting better.
(27:42):
Two hundred and thirty three yards passing and one hundred
and twenty rushing last week against Marshall County. I expect
to see more of that tonight. I think you're gonna
see another good passing game, good effort there, shots downfield,
and then I think you'll see the running game continue
to improve. Gras does win by two three touchdowns, but
(28:03):
it might be a little bit of a fight early
to figure things out. That should be a good one tonight.
How about this one not skipping over it, just trying
to save it so we can savor it. Fulton County,
Fulton County, you talk about game of the week, you
talk about game of the season. Fulton County travels to
Russellville with a district title on the line of the
(28:25):
regular season, both teams two and oh in their district.
It's a small district, small class, small schools, but they're
two and o. Fulton County has scored points all season.
They get to district play, they play their equals and
they have been better than those equals. They face Russellville.
Russellville kind of in the same boat. They do have
(28:45):
one more overall win on the season. They played Hopkinsville
or Hopkins County Central, who's not good, and they got
to win there. Outside of that, they were winless. They're
three and what one two, three four five? They're three
and five. Fulton County is two and six. The pilots, though,
they come in with a pretty good offense. Two hundred
and six yards per game passing, eighteen touchdowns, ten interceptions.
(29:09):
That's one p fifty six on the ground with fourteen
rushing touchdowns. Preston Smith the quarterback, we don't talk about
him enough. He's had a really, really good season and
he's got a really good target in Zadan Kenney. One
hundred and five yards receiving per game with eleven receiving touchdowns.
He's got a shot, a shot at a thousand yard season.
Remember they don't play next week. This is it for
(29:30):
the regular season, district title on the line on the
road for Fulton County Now, the Panthers have been really
good on offense. They've been a little bit better on defense.
Kind of I'll explain. Offensively, they throw up one hundred
and sixty three yards passing per game, fourteen touchdowns, eight picks.
They run the football at one hundred and ten a
game with ten rushing touchdowns, kind of like Fulton County.
(29:53):
It's a decent, pretty good quarterback and a very good
receiver to throw to, and that's kind of where those
numbers come from. Now, they have I scored more points
on Ballard and Kaverna the last two weeks, but they
also gave up thirteen to Ballard, who Fulton County shut out.
So I don't know what to think about that. To
be honest, I think on a neutral field, Fulton County
(30:14):
I like their chances. This game, unfortunately, with the district
title on the line, is at Russellville, and that's where
you got to give the Panthers the edge. If this
is a flip the coin game, then you got to
give the edge to the home team. I think Russellville
will win. I am rooting for Fulton County, hear me. Now,
I still believe in Fulton County, and I am rooting
(30:36):
for Fulton County, but the favorite in this game are
the Panthers. That's just where I'll leave it. This is
a phenomenal game. And how about it for Fulton County
to come into this week of the football season and
essentially should and deservingly have all eyes on them of
all the matchups tonight because it means everything. It matters,
(30:57):
and the last few weeks it's mattered even more. Good
for them. What else we got tonight? What else are
we looking at tonight? Let's see, haven't talked about Murray.
What's Murray up to tonight? I know they've got a
game they're gonna win. Yep, they play Hopkins County Central.
This game will be you can go ahead and kind
of sleep on this one. I mean it's at Murray.
Good for them. They'll have a crowd there for a minute,
but the crowd's gonna realize what's going on. They're gonna
(31:18):
leave because it's gonna be running clock game tonight. They're
gonna clock them. Is that where that's saying. I don't know.
They're gonna clock them tonight. The Tigers come in with
a chance at unbeaten season. By the way, spoiler alert,
they're gonna be unbeaten by the end of the regular season.
Hopkins County Central does have two wins on the year.
Those are some bad teams, but the Storm of Hopkins
(31:41):
County Central, the Hopkins County Central Storm, they just give
up a lot of points. They just give up a
lot of points. And you're facing one of the best
offenses in the entire state tonight, It's gonna be a
lot of points. Boy, if you're the scoreboard operator, I
hope you have worked out today. I hope you've gotten
your reps in stretched out your hands. You're gonna be
busy tonight with that scoreboard. Hopkins County Central throws the
(32:05):
football at won ten a game, seven touchdowns, twelve interceptions.
They run the football pretty well one sixty eight per
game with eleven touchdowns. But that's it. Sell out on
the run, you'll take care of the pass. The Tigers
of Murray they enter this game tonight, like I said,
one of the best offenses in the state. The Tigers
come in throwing the football at two hundred and forty
(32:27):
two hundred and fifty yards per game, twenty three touchdowns,
two interceptions. They run the football at one ninety nine
a game with twenty seven total rushing touchdowns. They're they're
leading rusher on the season. Bohmer has seven rushing touchdowns,
they have twenty seven as a team. That tells you
where they are. That tells you how good they are.
That tells you The twenty three passing touchdowns twenty seven
(32:47):
rushing touchdowns, it's pretty good, guys, it's pretty good. They
might get half of those. They might, you know, they
might increase that number by twenty five percent. Tonight. They're
gonna score a lot of points in Hopkins kind Central.
They're gonna win big, all right. Who else do we have?
Marshall County, the Marshall's coming off of a tough loss
to Graves County, still have opportunity here. You've got Apollo,
(33:11):
the second seed to night, who owns a win over
Graves County. You've got all this. You could talk about
some crazy things. If Muehlinberg County were to come in
and upset Graves, if Marshall would upset Apollo, that old
district goes into a teilspin. If Marshall beats Apollo up
still not sure what happens, but I do think there
will be some tie breaker scenarios. It'll be in play.
But Marshall's season ain't over yet, still searching for that
(33:33):
elusive fourth win, still searching for getting over that hump
a little bit. They've got Apollo tonight, and then it
kind of all comes down to Calloway County next week.
And you wonder if they don't beat Apollo tonight, where
their mindset will be next week. But Apollo has turned
out to be much better than we anticipated. They are
now the second team in that district. They are four
and one in their last five games. They beat Miehlenburg,
(33:57):
they beat Graves. They just beat Madisonville forty nine to
forty by the way, all of a sudden, they're just
putting up points. So yeah, they're good against Graves Counties.
You know, defense, they only scored fourteen, but they they
were one touchdown better. You look at coach Edge his
Eagles on the season. They are throwing the football at
(34:18):
two forty three per game, fifteen touchdowns, seven interceptions for
the junior Maxwell Johnson, who is really really good. And
then they're running the football at ninety two a game
with seven rushing touchdowns. They'll run it when they need to.
They'll get some things. They're gonna want to go pass heavy.
I think again, this football is all about matchups. It's
not necessarily who's better. Sometimes it just comes down to
(34:40):
good or bad matchups. And the thing that Apollo does
well and what they lean on to win and what
they did to beat Madisonville they went to the edge, no,
no pun intended with coach edge. They went to the
edge and they went vertical and they got the win.
And I think that's where they'll beat Marshall County tonight.
I think that's how they be Marshall County tonight. Now
(35:02):
this game is at Marshall, they do have to travel
down here, and they could be this This is a
perfect definition of trap game. You're you're setting in the
second seed. You're playing the team that's on the outside
looking in in the district. You're playing a team that
look like they were gonna have a good year and
it's kind of slid back to what they've normally been,
a team that again you've beaten pretty well the last
(35:25):
few years. In fact, you look at this matchup last season,
Apollo won fifty four to twenty seven. The year before that,
thirty to thirteen, the year before that forty eight fourteen.
Like you get the trend. It's a sleeper game. It's
a trap game for Apollo. This is a better Marshall
County football team. If they don't respect it, they'll they'll
find out quick. But this Marshall County football team, again,
(35:47):
where they are strong is the opposite of where Apollo
is strong. So it's I don't know if it's a
good matchup. Marshall County throws the football at one hundred
and seven yards per game, seven touchdown, seven picks. They
run the football one seventy five per game, seventeen rushing touchdowns.
I still don't know how we've only gotten one touchdown
for Jay Thomason, leading rusher on the team, leads the
(36:10):
team in average seventy yards per game total yards, leads
the team one touchdown. Don't get fancy, don't get cute.
If you're not gonna throw the football on first down,
don't throw it on set like, just run the football
when you got opportunity, stay ahead of the sticks three
yards in a cloud of dust. Works. When you're not
skilled enough to make the other things work and you've
(36:33):
got a pretty good running back, you got two really
good running backs, and Thomason wins it. Both sophomores, both good,
both hard to take down, both do a great job
of keeping their feet moving, keeping you know, staying behind
their pads. I was impressed by both of them last week.
And I think of your Marshall County. Your strength is
your strength, your strength is your line. You've got some
big guys, You've got some good running backs. Get behind
(36:54):
those guys, run the football and get it done tonight.
I think if you try to go toe to toe
and you try to go over the top and downfield
and go vertical, it ain't gonna work because I think
that's where Apollo has you beat. Beat them where you
can have them beat beat them in the run game,
beat them in the trenches. But Apollo, I think, is
gonna come in and get the win. All signs say
trap game, and I think Apolo gets the win. And
(37:17):
that's it. That's it for us. I'm out of toime,
I'm out of topic, I'm out of week. Hope you
enjoy the rest of your Friday. Please go be safe
and enjoy the games this week. Be safe this weekend
with the rain and whatever you're getting into and we'll
talk about it on Monday. Hope you enjoyed. This has
