Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is the Region one Sports Report with Brian York
on ninety nine to five The Fad.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Anyway We Go.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
It is a Monday, October twenty seventh edition of the
Region one Sports Report.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
I'm Brian Yorke.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
As always, you can get in touch with us on
our social media pages or on our text line at
two seven oh five, three four forty three eight two
seven oh five, three four forty three oh eight. How
are we doing? How are you doing on a Monday? Yeah,
it's been a little rain soaked. Yeah, yesterday it was
kind of dreary and ugly and cold and whatever. But
you know, we're back at it on a Monday. I'm
(00:42):
in a surprisingly good mood today.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
I think.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
I think because I'm drinking my favorite drink of all time.
Now I think I found it. I think after all
this time of not making good enough coffee or coffee
being inconsistent, and you know, I like, I'll occasionally and
I shouldn't, but I'll occasionally have a monster energy to
I know. Kickstarts are my favorite, that's been my go
to for years. They're getting harder to find in this region.
(01:06):
They're getting harder to find in the area used to
find them in the Paduca Walmarts. I can't find them
right now. Haven't found them in the ben Walmart in
a long time, so they're getting a little bit harder
to find. But I was down in Jackson, Tennessee this
weekend and I was in a convenience stores in one
of the gas stations and they had one I haven't
tried before. It was a yellow can. I'm like, what
(01:26):
is this? And it is pineapple mango orange. It's fantastic.
It's fantastic. So I'm having a great start to my
pleasant surprise. But I'm also a little bit bummed out
that I know I'm not gonna be able to find
another one. You know, that's how it goes. But a
great start to my Monday. Hopefully yours has gone well
as well. As we have a lot to get into
(01:47):
on this Monday. Soccer girls soccer, in particular McCracken County
falling short on Saturday. But we'll get into that here
in a moment. We've got volleyball tournament action that will
get underway today. The regional tournament starts today and runs
through the end of the week, and then of course
we will look back on Friday nights football games and
look ahead to the hear me when I say this
(02:10):
final week of the regular season, the final week of
the regular season, so a lot to get into today. Now,
how does the rest of the week go? How does
our week next week start to go? Well, we've got
kind of too much to get into today, recapping soccer
from Saturday, recapping football from Friday, kind of looking ahead
(02:31):
to volleyball for the week. Just too much to get
into today, fall sports related. Wednesday, still have volleyball, We'll
still kind of look ahead to football, but on Wednesday,
as we can, we will start to creep into our
basketball coverage, start to ease into it. No reason to
run into it, no reason to rush into it. We've
got plenty of time, but we'll start to have those conversations,
(02:55):
I think starting on Wednesday. Now again on Friday, we'll
be football heavy again for the final week of the
football season, and then kind of repeats itself next week
with wrapping up football in the regular season, previewing the
postseason football action that we have for our teams in
the area. So still a little bit heavy on the
football side, but like I said, Wednesday will lease into it,
(03:17):
maybe take a break on Friday Monday, we'll kind of
have to take a break for football reactions, and then
next Wednesday we'll ease into it again as we kind
of inch closer to basketball season. Little things, little conversations
like player of the year, you know, thinking out loud,
who might be the player of the year in the region,
and girls and boys?
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Who are the players to watch? Who might be the
team to watch?
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Like, we know who the top two to three teams are,
at least we have a pretty good idea going into
the season who we think they're going to be. Is
there a sleeper? Is there a team we're not talking
about as much. Like we'll get into those kind of conversations,
and then as we get closer to basketball season, we'll
give you our official preseason top ten player list, We'll
give you our official player of the year preseason you
(04:04):
know nominees. We'll give you our you know, preseason rankings.
We'll do all of that as we really push towards
and get much closer to basketball season. But we'll start
thinking out loud. We'll start having those sort of initial conversations.
I think coming up this Wednesday. So if you've been
looking for that or you're looking for that. It's it's
coming up soon. It's coming up quick. It'll be here soon.
(04:26):
That's my point, all right. I can't cause that's the thing.
I cannot believe we're in the final week of football season.
I can't believe we are entering week ten or I
guess week eleven, but the tenth game of the regular
season already here for football. That's that's insane to me.
And as we do, we start to wrap up the
other fall sports, which is even more insane. One of
(04:47):
those that now has officially wrapped up is girl soccer.
The last team standing for US was McCracken County. They
got to host for the first time in school history
in a playoff game, got to host on Saturday, they
hosted Sacred Heart, won a mountain of a game that
was gonna be for them, and it was, and what
an effort. A three to one loss for the Lady Mustangs.
(05:09):
Nothing to hang your hat over being in the Elite eight,
getting to host a playoff game and falling to one
of the state favorites in Sacred Heart, the Valkyries of
Sacred Heart, and falling three to one a close competitive
soccer match. Kira Tans. The senior scored the lone goal
for McCracken County. And how about this, Addison Smith. Okay, yeah,
(05:30):
Sacred Heart got three goals. Addison Smith had twenty saves
on the game. That's a lot of it's a lot
of action for the goalkeeper and she did phenomenal twenty saves.
They do get three, they do get the win three
to one McCracken's County. I think that was tied one
to one early and then Sacred Heart added two more
goals to get that get that win. But McCracken County
(05:52):
season comes to an end twelve to eight and two.
Kind of an upstart playoff push, right, an upstart playoff push.
They they edged out Calloway County. They upset Calloway County,
the best team of the regular season all year long.
Then they took on the next best team in the tournament,
perennial favorite in Marshall County, and they took them down.
(06:13):
We talked about this combined two nothing was their two
regional tournament games against the two best teams in the region.
You want to talk about, how do we know you're
truly the best team in the region because you took
down the two best teams in the region. You took
down the two teams that were ahead of you all season.
You took them out. You're clearly the best team. It
(06:34):
isn't a random tournament. It's you proving and putting your
stamp as the best team in the region. So the
Lady Mustangs did that again in the regional tournament, taking
down Callaway and Marshall. Then they get Greenwood. Greenwood was
a very good team and a very good opponent in
the first round. Greenwood sixteen nine and two on the
year was their final record, and they took them down
(06:57):
two to one. And then you just again, it's tougher
the more you go, you get sacred heart and you
come up short. But that's nothing to blink at because again,
despite the fact that record wise, you weren't in that
conversation going into the tournament, you were the best team
in the region.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
You proved it once you got there.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
So mccracking County season does come to an end, and
with that means our soccer coverage for the season. Now
the Lady Mustangs will lose what one, two, three, four, five, six,
seven seniors. They'll lose seven seniors The good thing is
they get. They get Maddy Ledgerwood back, who's been one
of the leaders all year. They get Addison Smith, Matt
(07:35):
they get, They get a lot of pieces back too.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
The lose seven seniors. It's gonna but this team will.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Be right back in it next year, no doubt about it,
because they are so Congratulations on a successful year, Congratulations
on the regional tournament, Congratulations on the Elite eight and
all that you accomplished. What a year from McCracken County.
And like I said, with it, that concludes our soccer coverage.
No team's left, nothing else to cover. Soccer for US
(08:00):
is done, and that is I can't wrap my head
around it. I can't can't wrap my head around it.
So soccer coverage over volleyball coverage and its essentially final
week for US. The volleyball Regional Tournament gets underway tonight,
continues tomorrow night, wraps up on Thursday night. We'll talk
about that and more when we come back. We've got that,
(08:22):
We've got football, We've got more of. This is Region one.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Sports talking your teams. This is the Region one Sports Report.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Had nothing to do but for all rainy days and mondays,
always getting me.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
What Reagion one sports moving along.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
Yes, it's a rainy Monday, it's Mondays and rainy days
do get me down, and especially when they're the same day.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
But it is what it is. As we move along
on your Monday edition of the show.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Uh, we were talking about wrapping up our soccer coverage
and that's what happens when the last team standing goes down.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
And we did that and we have done that.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Now we move into the final week essentially a volleyball coverage.
You have the volleyball Regional Tournament getting ready to get
underway today, all of the games at Calloway County High School.
There'll be two games at Callaway County's auxiliary gym, two
games in the main gym, but all first round games
will be concluded tonight. I love how they do this.
(09:28):
So you'll have Graves County and Callawai County. Graves a
district winner, Callaway County the runner up, and then Hickman
County a district winner taken on Community Christian Academy the
district runner up. Those games tonight at five thirty and
seven twenty in the auxiliary gym. Then you have Marshall
County District winner taken on Ballard Memorial District runner up
(09:48):
and McCracken County District winner taken on Carlisle County District
runner up. Those games again five thirty and seven to twenty.
But they'll be over in the main gym tonight over
at Callaway County High School. All the volleyball action underway
tonight over there. Let's look at each of these round
by rounds. So Graves and Callaway Graves the sort of
upstart in the third district they went in. Had to
(10:11):
face Mayfield in the first round of the district tournament,
a rival, a team that had been very good this
season and a team not easy necessarily to put away
not to give me game, and they win that game
three sets to nine. They take on the top seed
going into the tournament in Ballad Memorial at Ballard Memorial
and they win three sets to nine. I mean they
(10:31):
beat them and yeah and walk away truly district champs
going into the regional tournament. Their record on the season
is sixteen and eleven. They're twelve and two in Region
one play. They take on again Calloway County Callaway County
No give me seventeen and fifteen. Overall in the season,
they are ten and nine in Region one play, they
(10:52):
fell in the district tournament. They did beat Murray three
sets to two to knock Murray out of this thing,
but then lost to Marshall three nothing. So Graves in callaway.
That's game one in the auxiliary gym. Game two, we'll
see Hickman County, winners of the fourth district, take it
on CCA. They are runners up in the second district.
(11:13):
Hickman County will enter this matchup fourteen and thirteen. On
the season, they went twelve and ten in Region one play.
They beat Fulton County three to nine and then beat
Carlisle County three to two in the championship game to
edge them out and get into this as a district winner.
CCA seven and twenty two. On the year, they were
four and seventeen in Region one play. Of course, they
(11:37):
beat I believe hold on a minute Paducah Tillman in
the first round of the district three nothing, and then
lost to Mkraken County three nothing. So you look at again,
that's the nightcap game in the auxiliary gym. You look
at those two matchups, Graves is the favorite and then
Hickman County would be the favorite. The expectation would be
for Graves and Hickman to meet now, wouldn't sleep on
(11:58):
Callaway County. If there's an up set with either of
these two matches, it would be that Graves Callaway game.
Although again, do sort of feel like Graves is kind
of on a run right now and they should or
at least we look for them to advance, So I
expect Graves Higman County to move on in that part
of the bracket. Bottom part of the bracket Marshall County
(12:19):
and Ballard Memorial, This one is gonna be a good one.
Marshall County again goes in as district winner. They beat
CFS three to nothing and then beat Callaway County three nothing.
They come in with a record of nineteen and five
sixteen and two in the region. Ballard Memorial they come
in with the second best record in the region. They're
a district runner up, but they've been pretty good twenty
(12:41):
four and eight overall in the season, sixteen and four
in Region one play. This one is sort of your
marquee matchup of the first round. Of all of those
matches I mentioned, you could point to Callawai Graves and
go could be an upset here, although we expect Graves
to win. Then you point to this one and you go, yeah,
(13:02):
this one's got a chance to be really good. Now,
Marshall did beat Ballard both times they played in the
regular season, but they have not played since the end
of August and first of September. It was a three
to two win for Marshall the first time. It was
three to zero for Marshall the second time. So Marshall
does come into this Ballard the better record. Marshall, you
(13:22):
would say, would be the favorite. But this one, I mean, man,
this one's got a lot of intrigue to it. That's
the first game in the main gym.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Tonight.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
Second game is gonna see McCracken County and Carlisle County.
McCracken County again, your second district winner. You're, I mean,
the team that everyone expects to win the region, and
we all picked them to win the region because to
be the man, you gotta beat the men, and nobody's
done it in volleyball since McCracken County's been a thing.
But McCracken County beat Saint Mary three to zero in
the district. They beat CCA three to zero to win
(13:54):
that district. McCracken County twenty eight and seven on the season,
just eight to zero in the region. They don't play
many Region one opponents as some of the other opponents
do because they're they're national. They've got bigger things on
their brain and they act like it, and they should.
But they get Carlile County tonight. Carlile County comes in
at seventeen and thirteen on the season. They are fort
(14:17):
I gotta look at it again. They are fourteen and
nine in Region one to play. Beat Fulton City three
to zero in the first round, beat lost to Hickman
County three to two in that championship game.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
They come in.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
I don't know, let's see, I don't think no, they
did not play each other in the regular season. Again,
McCracken County the expected winner of this game and just
spoiler alert the whole tournament. That's game two tonight in
the main gym. So my expected winners, my predictions, I'll
take Graves over Callaway, Hickman over CCA, then Marshall over Ballard,
(14:50):
mccrack and over Carlisle. If there's an upset, alert to
be had, I would point to the Graves callaway game,
I would point to Ballard and Marshall, but I still
expect the favorites to win when that moves you wanted.
The second round where you would have our expectations are
Graves taking on Hickman County, Marshall County taking on McCracken County.
I would expect Graves County to win that game and
(15:11):
get to a regional championship game. I mean their path honestly,
once they get that, it's a pretty good bracket for them,
So I expect them to get there. And then on
the other side of McCracken County Marshall County, you would
expect McCracken to get there and McCracken again once again
as always your regional champ.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
So that's volleyball.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
That's our look ahead at regional tournament action for volleyball
again starting tonight. Second round is tomorrow night, right, yep.
And then the championship I said Thursday, the championship is
actually on Wednesday. So here we go three straight days
of volleyball action to crown a champ.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
Gotta love it, gotta love it.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
That's the regional tournament for volleyball, and then that will
wrap up essentially our volleyball coverage outside of whatever they
do at this point McCracken does in the state tournament solleyball.
All right, before we move on, we've got to talk.
We've got to talk football. That's our next thing here.
The second to last week of the of the regular season,
(16:09):
Week ten of the football season is now in the books,
which is just insane, and it went about as we
expected and predicted last week. We'll give you the scores,
we'll give you a quick rundown, and then we'll come
back and break them down here in our final segment.
But you had just to refresh ourselves. You had Paduka
(16:30):
Tilman taking down Callaway County forty nine to fourteen. McCracken
County beat Henderson County fifty five forty two. Graves County
had their best showing of the season against an upstart
Buelinberg County team, beating them forty two to nothing. Mayfield
over Fort Campbell fifty eight to nothing, Murray over Hopkins
County Central forty five to twelve, Apollo beat Marshall County
forty nine to six, wow Critney County over Codwell County
(16:54):
thirty seven to twenty four, Kaverna beat Ballard thirty six
nothing Russellville over Fullyton County, and a shocker of the
night sixty four fourteen unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
And we'll get into that and a lot more.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
We'll take a break, we'll come back our third and
longest segment of the show as we break those down
in a moment right here on Region one.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
The fastest growing local sports show in the region. This
is Region one Sports Rain.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Rain on my face hasn't stopped raining for days. My
world is a flood man.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
This song takes me back. Hold On, hold on to you.
This is the best parts the far day.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
Scratch Crash says so.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Far man, I love it, I love it.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Child of the nineties, that song that that crossover hit
so big, like that one, that one got played in
my CD player in my walkman, about as much as
anything rolling on on your Monday. We finally get to
our football talk. We finally get to talking about football
from last week and kind of start getting ready for
the final week. A lot of blowouts and in all honesty,
(18:14):
there wasn't one close game really last week. That doesn't
mean we were we were not surprised by a few
of these games. And I'll start with one that really
had a surprise Fulton County and Russellville. Now, I thought,
you looked at Fulton County and you looked at Russellville,
and you looked at common opponents, and you went, you know, again,
(18:35):
it was on the road for Fulton County, it was
at Russellville, so you felt like they were gonna have
the edge. You felt like Fulton would probably come up
short in this game, but it would be a good game.
And this was a blowout. And that is surprising. That
is very very surprising. Russellville. Again, they had both played
Caverna and Ballard. Russellville had beat them fifty six thirteen
(18:58):
fifty five forty over Kaverna. And then you looked at
Fulton County, who beat Kaverna forty two to forty and
then beat Ballad forty five.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Like these are not that far off. These scores are
very similar.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
This indicated it should be a pretty close and pretty
competitive football game, and it wasn't. In fact, it was
arguably the worst loss of the season for Fulton County.
I'm not trying to pile on I'm trying to state facts.
I've been a Fulton County believer supporter, I've been rooting
for them. We talk about this do the most with
(19:31):
the least, and that game blew my mind. On Friday night,
sixty four to fourteen. I thought, man, at most, at most,
Russellville would get a two touchdown win, maybe three, maybe
something crazy, you know, twenty one point win that would
surprise me, unbelievable, And it was just, you know, Fulton
(19:51):
County's defense, they're just not gonna stop anybody. That's not
how they're gonna win games. They're gonna win games because
their offense has been good. And again you could argue
may be the worst offensive output of the season, or
at least the numbers weren't as good as they had
been consistently good. Ninety yards passing, forty five yards rushing,
(20:12):
one touchdown. It came in the air on offense, three
interceptions again a little uncharacteristic, and didn't score a rushing
touchdown and a lot of that is only one catch
for Zaiden Kenny with eighteen yards. That's just not gonna
get it done. It's just not got to get the
ball to your playmaker, and you got to make sure
he gets more receptions than that Russellville. On the flip
(20:36):
side of this, you look at the numbers they put
up the Panthers one hundred and fifty eight yards passing
four touchdowns. They were six of eight passing and then
rushing twenty six carries for three hundred and forty six
yards and five touchdowns. They had two different players, two
different running backs go for one hundred and forty plus
yards one eighty four for their top runner on twelve carries,
(21:00):
one forty three for their second time. I mean, they
just did whatever they wanted to on offense. Kind of
thought that would be the case, but felt like this
would be a shootout. That's the game that would have
favored Fulton or at least kept them in it. They
could not make it a shootout and ends up being,
unfortunately a blowout sixty four to fourteen. Now, that was
for the top seed in the district. Fulton County will
(21:22):
go in as the second seed in the district and
they now we know we'll have Bethlehem the Eagles. They
will get them in the first round. Bethlehem. On the season,
they have four wins. They just beat Holy Cross Louisville
forty two to twenty seven and they beat Seneca, Frankfurt,
and Gerard County. I don't know anything about any of
these teams. You know that second district for one, A
(21:44):
football might as well be in in Washington State. Just
a lot of we I just don't know as much.
Not many people, I'm sure do. But they come in.
You gotta think this is this is gonna be at
Fulton County.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
They do host.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
But the way Fulton County's defense has been. You look
at Bethlehem's offense. They can score, they can put up points,
and that's where you start to worry. Now, we'll break
this down and preview it when we get closer. That's
not for two more weeks. By the way, neither team,
neither team plays Actually I'm sorry. Bethlehem plays Hancock County Friday,
but Fulton County they now have kind of a bye week.
(22:21):
They go in, they have to wait two weeks to
play their next football game. So again we'll preview that
later on. It's at Fulton County. But you gotta think
Bethlehem might be a little bit of a favorite right now,
just saying. But that game did again, not a close game,
but a surprising score on Friday Night. Another one that
was a bit surprising. Apollo and Marshall County forty nine
(22:45):
to six. Now Apollo has sort of come alive. Apollo
is has been the team. Like Apollo is having the
season we thought Graves County would have. And I don't
just mean me, I mean everybody across the state kind
of struggle early, to struggle with some good opponents in
the first three four weeks and then get to district
play and prove that you're still a good football team.
(23:06):
Graves has come up short. Graves has been arguably at
times the better team against Madisonville, and was the better
team against Apollo. And had they completed those games and
got those wins, which we thought they would the way
those games were being played, they would be in this spot.
But Apollo got those wins, Apollo held off and beat Graves,
(23:27):
Apollo beat Madisonville, and then we thought, Okay, Marshall's been
good this season. You know they Graves and Marshall was
a twenty one to ten game. This game might be close,
but a Polo is the favorite forty nine to six,
And I think it's more of the shocker that Marshall's
offense the last three weeks, you played Owensborough, you scored
(23:47):
seven points.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Throw that out. That's Owensborough. That's different.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
They may be the best team in the entire state
of Kentucky right now in all classes. Yeah, you scored
ten against Graves. Okay, Graves defense is really good, but
then six's Apollo. The offense has kind of disappeared the
last couple of games for Marshall, the defense giving up points,
and Marshall now in that position we talked about where
(24:11):
trying to get over the hump, trying to get to
that fourth win, and now it comes down to the
last week. They're seasons wrapped up. They don't have that
playoff game now to look forward to. They're not going
to the playoffs, So you wonder where their mind is
gonna be Friday Night. Are either playing for pride and
you just wonder where that's gonna be. Because Calloway County
has a chance in their Friday night game with Marshall
(24:32):
coming up this week to get a sixth win. Calloway
County has a chance at a winning regular season. You
know they're playing they're playing for the playoffs. They're in
the playoffs, but you know they're playing for that kind
of pride, and we'll see. Is this another year where
Marshall County the expectations.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Are where they're gonna be better, They're gonna make that push.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
Just watch, things will be different, and then they end
up exactly the same.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
And I say that with pain.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
I say I'm tired of te telling people Marshall County
used to be a good football program. I'm tired of
telling people who don't believe me that once upon a
time they were a perennial. They were good. They were
eight to nine wins a year, they were getting into
the playoffs. People don't believe you anymore. I'm rooting for
them like crazy to get back to those days. I
think it's good for the region if they're back to that.
(25:19):
I think it's good for all their opponents if they're
back to that. But it's just another season where we
kind of hear the hype, we see good things in
the offseason, and then it ends up being right back
to three and seven when things are said and done
at the end of the regular season. At least that's
what they're looking at. They get a fourth win, I
think that's a step of the right direction. That's a
(25:41):
fourth win of the regular seasons. It's been a minute
since they've had one of those. I'll give you the
how long here in a moment when I go to
my reference sheet, But it's been a minute. But they
lose to Apollo. That's what we're talking about. In this game,
Marshall County's offense put up forty three yards passing one
and eighteen on the ground. I just know Jake Thomas
(26:01):
had had five carries for fifty yards. Why are we
not giving him the football more? I just don't know.
Hand the football off to that kid. Five carries for
fifty yards. Maybe he got hurt.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
I don't know. I wasn't there.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
Five carries for fifty yards seems to me like we
need to run the football and run it again and
then run it again. Like that's how Marshall should play.
Twenty five carries for one eighteen is not bad. I
know you want to pass the football, but it ain't
working most nights, it ain't working. I think you've got
good receivers, big physical receivers, but these skill guys for
(26:33):
these other teams, especially in five A football, it's just
that much harder to get things going, and your strength
is your muscle, your line, your run game, go with it.
Your strength is your physicality and your strength. Get behind
those dudes and get behind those pads and three yards
in a cloud of dust. Ain't no shame in it.
Ain't no shame in it. You're not Puduka Tilman. You're
(26:56):
Marshall County. Run the football and I think you'll be
in a in a good spot, especially Friday night. That'll
be one of the keys. I'm surprised by that. Those
numbers are not bad. I just don't know why others
they're not higher, if that makes sense. But Apolo offensively
in this game again, I mean their quarterback is really good.
We've been telling you that all year. He was nineteen
(27:17):
of twenty one for three thirty five, five touchdowns, no picks.
He just picked apart Marshall County. They ran the football
fourteen times for seventy five yards, but they got to
the air and they were I mean two incompletions, five
touchdowns and three thirty five. Just had their way in
the past game. So again, not surprised Apollo won. A
(27:40):
little surprised they blew them out like they did, especially
considering that game was at Marshall and had Marshall County
won the game, they're forcing one of these kind of
weird kind of in the playoffs computer ranking RPA, it
would have forced that and instead, Wow, forty nine to six.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
That surprised us. That shocked us.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
I think it tells you where Apollo is too, because
they have come on strong, and they were coming on
the whole time. And here they are five and four,
number two in the district. They're only lost in district
play was to Owensboro.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
It's crazy. What else do we have from Friday night?
What else? How about Graves County? How about the Eagles?
Speaker 3 (28:16):
Forty two nothing over Muhlenberg And I hear you, oh
it's Milinberg County.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
They're terrible. They're better.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
That's a better football team than they've been in the past.
They are building something there and it has come around.
It has I mean, this is a team that Marshall
County beat twenty three to twenty one. This is a
team that Apollo. Apollo just beat Marshall forty nine to six.
At Marshall Apollo beat Milnberg County. Are you ready? They
beat Miulianberg County thirty four to twenty one. This is
(28:42):
a good Mulnberg County team. What we saw is an
improved and better and finally starting to click Graves County team.
Graves County finally getting it going. They win their third
game of the year, but they have their best output
of the year, forty two, not a four, forty two
to nothing, their first shutout of the season, the most
(29:02):
offense they've had all year. Previously that was the Marshall
County game twenty one to ten. The difference they finished
drives in this game, that was a difference. It's been
there the whole time, but they haven't finished drives. I
can't tell you how many times they've been inside the
ten and not scored a point because of holding penalties
(29:23):
or throwing an interception or taking a sack, or running
the football and losing six yards and just crazy things.
And in this game, man, they were good. Jase Houston
thirteen of sixteen, one point thirty eight, three touchdowns, no picks.
Brady Rozelle his best game as a running back this year.
Eighteen carries, won twenty one in a touchdown. Graves County
(29:46):
ran the football twenty seven times for one to ninety
three and three touchdowns on the ground.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
That's three in the year. Three in the ground. Man.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
Their offense was moving, man, it was it was good.
I joked with Wilson Thomas last week. I think he's
the most efficient receiver in the region. Couldn't get better
than this. This is the crazy stat of the night.
Listen to this if you hear nothing else, this stat's amazing.
One catch, one yard, one touchdown.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
And Graves County gets the blowout win forty two to nothing.
They get McCracken County on Friday. What did McCracken do.
They went on the road to a district team. They
beat Henderson County fifty five forty two. Looking at this one.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
We knew it.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
Listen, here's the mo on Graves County plays mccrack and Friday.
Graves County's defense has been very, very good all year.
They've been really good all year. Their worst defensive performance
was against Tillman Mayfield in Owensboro. They put up points
because they put up points on everybody. But outside of that,
they played some really good teams, really tough on defense
and did everything they need to do. Offense has struggled.
(30:49):
Offense has started to come alive McCracken County's defense has struggled,
but their offense has been phenomenal. They are not interested
in playing defense. They're interested in out scoring you, and
that works more often than not for them. And they
did it again on Friday, fifty five forty two. Giving
up forty two points and still winning the game is amazing.
It's amazing. They gave up fifty six to Hopkinsville and
(31:09):
won the game, right like, it's amazing how they do
this fifty five forty two. Looking at the stats from
this one. Mattix O'Neill twelve of eighteen two forty four,
four touchdowns, no picks, man, this kid is just you
talk about spinning, spinning that football, man, he's doing it.
Grip it and rip it, man, he is getting it done.
Twelve of eighteen two forty four four and no touch
(31:32):
no interceptions. How about Landon Newman Twenty nine carries for
two hundred and fifteen yards and three touchdowns. Like I said,
they're just moving the football better than you, and that's
that's all that matters.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
They get the win. Now, Henderson County in this game.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
If you want to talk about the comp we want
to talk about what they did to McCracken's defense. Henderson
County does not throw the football often or a lot,
or for big yards. They threw for two thirteen of
twenty three to two thirteen, three touchdowns, no picks. They
do run the football. They did forty three yards two
seventeen and three touchdowns. Henderson County had two hundred plus
(32:09):
yards in the air, two hundred plus yards on the ground,
six total touchdowns and could not win the game. That's amazing.
That is absolutely amazing. That was their second third best
offensive output of the year, and they lose because McCracken
County's offense is just absolutely rolling, rolling, And that gives
(32:31):
us the best last week of the season matchup of
the year that you could ask for. Graves McCracken at Graves.
Graves defense mccrackens offense. Graves offense has come around. I think,
and I'll just say this early. I think Graves will
continue to be able to move the football as they've
done the last few weeks. That won't be they won't
(32:51):
score as quick as McCracken, but I think they'll move
the football. And part of what wears McCracken's defense out
is how quick their offense scores with some guys playing
two way and it just gets those guys tired. I
think that can favor Graves this week. I don't think
they can outscore McCracken. I think they can move the football,
and if they can move the football and keep McCracken's
(33:12):
offense on the sideline, I'll give them a chance. But
it's setting up to be a phenomenal last game of
the regular season. What else do we have from this
past Friday? As expected, Tilman over Callaway County. I'll read
you from the Reid Cap. Tilman closed out of perfect
five and zero district this year, one loss in the
regular season so far going into this final week. They
(33:34):
again forty two to nothing at halftime. This game was
over by the half and Tilman rolls forty nine to fourteen.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Kind of expected.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
Callaway's having a great year, but they're no match for
Paduca Tilman and then Callaway gets marshalled this week. For me, Graves, McCracken,
Calwi Marshall, these are two really good games we've got
coming up in the final week that mean absolutely nothing
other than bragging rights. All you're playing four where both
of those games are bragging rights, and I think they're
going to be really interesting in fun football games this week.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
All right, that's it.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
I'm out of time, out of time, out of show,
out of topic. Back on Wednesday. We'll have more then.
Until then, this has been Reagion one Sports
