Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is the Region one Sports Report with Brian York
on ninety nine to five, The Fad.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
And away we go.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
It is your Wednesday, November twenty sixth edition of the
Region one Sports Report. By the way, Happy Thanksgiving. It
is the day before Thanksgiving. Well, if you listen to
the podcast, it's actually the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
We're not gonna worry about that. For the radio listener.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
It is the day before Thanksgiving and we are so
thankful this time of the year. And I'll get into
that a little bit later on, but I'm Brian Yorke.
This is the Region one Sports Report. As always, you
can get in touch with us here at the show
or on the show at two seven oh five three
four forty three oh eight. That's two seven oh five
(00:53):
three four forty three oh eight. You remain anonymous, don't
worry about that. And that's actually not my phone numbers,
so you're not actually texting my phone number, but you're
texting the Region one Sports Reports phone number.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
And I'm glad that you do.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Many of you have and will and I know we'll continue,
so thank you for that. It is, by the way,
the day before Thanksgiving. As far as the official show
is concerned. We will not have a show on Black Friday.
I'll be busy enough. I know some of you will
be too. We will not have a show on Black Friday.
So this is our only other show of the week,
(01:28):
and basically today the way that I've kind of decided
to do the show.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Today, we're going to talk football.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
We've still got two teams playing, they believe it or not,
play Friday night. Paduca Tilman is playing and Murray is
still playing. So they both have incredibly fun, difficult whatever
you but incredible matchups on Friday, and we will break
those down, talk about them, give you the stats, and
make our picks here in a little bit. But we're
(01:56):
also going to talk about what we're thankful for, you
know what. And by the way, we'll talk basketball today.
We'll get into some of that. We'll kind of get
into the things we're looking forward to, things that we're
excited for, things that because here's the deal. Basketball season
starts Monday, right, I mean, there'll be games on Monday,
there'll be games on Tuesday. My first game is on Tuesday.
(02:17):
So I'm excited and thankful for that. But we'll break
that down. We'll get into that as the show goes on.
So football, basketball, and what we're thankful for here on
Region one Sports.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
All right, so let's do that thing that we do.
Let's talk high school sports.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
As I said, Murray and Tilman are both still alive.
Murray and Tilman both have phenomenal final four matchups. As
you do this time of the year, you don't get
to the semi finals, you don't get to the final
four in your class of football playoff without playing somebody
pretty good, somebody decent, and Murray and Tilman certainly will
(02:55):
have their hands full on Friday night if they want
to win a state title, if they want to keep
their playoff hopes a lot, if they want to get
to that title game.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
So the best way to do this we'll kind.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Of stay in order of class, Murray being the three
A school, We'll talk a little Murray High football first.
So Murray on Friday night they get Lloyd Memorial. I
talked about this, I think on Monday show that I'd
never heard of Lloyd Memorial. I've never heard of the Juggernauts,
just being honest, but they are out of that northern
(03:26):
Kentucky area. No coach Cunningham comes from that area, so
he might know a thing or two about the Juggernauts
Class three A, District five. They are of course unbeaten
on the season going into this matchup as well as
Murray is the Juggernauts from Lloyd Memorial. They have a
(03:47):
senior quarterback who's pretty good. One hundred and sixty eight
yards passing per game, thirty four touchdowns, five interceptions, twenty
one hundred eighty seven total yards on the season. They've
got a pretty good double you know, combo in the backfield.
It's really two running backs, a junior and a sophomore.
The sophomore is Avery Canard. He is averaging fifty six
(04:09):
yards per game, that's seven thirty two total on the season,
fourteen rushing touchdowns. His counterpart is Lincoln Tomlinson, a sophomore,
fifty four yards per game, six ninety eight total, sixteen touchdowns, So.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Thirty of their thirty eight.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Rushing touchdowns come between those two running backs seven thirty
two and six ninety eight total on the season, respectfully.
They have a twenty two hundred twelve yard passing attack
and a twenty twenty nine yard rushing attack. That's who
they are looking at their defense. They've recovered twelve fumbles
this season. That's pretty good, right, They've forced eight, recovered twelve.
(04:50):
That's not counting special team or that is counting special teams. Defensively,
twenty three defensive sacks on the season, four hundred and
ninety nine solo tackles, and then in the passing game,
they have twelve team interceptions only one pick sixth though
on the season. Let's compare that, shall we. Let's look
(05:10):
at your Murray Hot Tigers. The Tigers at this point
in the season. They've also got a pretty good senior quarterback,
why Robbins thirty one hundred and thirty total yards on
the season. That's two forty one per game, thirty five
touchdowns to four interceptions. As a team, they run the
football at one eighty two per game. Third, top running
(05:31):
back is eight sixty six with thirteen rushing touchdowns at
sixty seven yards per game. So Murray statistically a better
team than their opponent. Now, I'm gonna get into strength
of schedule and I'm gonna get into sometimes you're comparing
apples and oranges, and we'll talk about that. But at
least the stats we have the Tigers are better. You
(05:52):
look at special teams, Murray has recovered thirteen fumbles, they
forced two.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
That's a weird number, I got that doesn't add up.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
But nonetheless, defensively seven hundred and eighteen solo tackles. That's
a lot, twenty five sacks, and then in the secondary
eight interceptions, three pick sixes.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
So that's the stats.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
What does it really mean because they've obviously played different
strengths of schedule.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
I'll just be honest with you.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
By the time the season kind of ended, Murrays strength
of schedule not ending up being the greatest. Graves had
one of their worst seasons in a long time. Still
a good football team, you know, I love my Eagles,
but it was one of their worst outings in a while.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Apollo turned out to be pretty good.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Not a bad way to start the season with a
forty eight to thirty four win over Apollo.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Callaway turned out to be pretty good.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Still not up to the par of a Murray and
of that caliber, but a pretty good team.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Marshall not so much, Russellville not so much. Mccrackn.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
Their offense was good, their defense didn't have any plans
to stop anybody. That's just reality. So yeah, you should
have put up a lot of points and you did.
Webster County not very good, Union County a down year,
Hopkins County Central not very good, cadwoll County had a
good year, not as good. And here's my point, I
think Murray played a lot of good teams with winning records.
(07:11):
Of that though, you could argue the best team, you know,
I mean, Graves beat McCracken and beat them pretty handily,
so really you gotta say that, Yeah, the Graves game
is a good win at home. The Apollo went on
the road was a good win. The McCracken, you know,
winning on the road's a good win. And then of
course what they've done in the playoffs. But strength of
(07:34):
schedule is a little different here. Lloyd Memorial being where
they are, they just typically see a consistent higher level
of opponent.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
That's not taking anything away from Murray. That is not
the point I'm making.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
The point I'm making is maybe Lloyd Memorial's stats, although
very good, are a little weaker because their opponents have
been a little better. Nonetheless, nonetheless, this game is also
a home game for Lloyd Memorial, so a road game
for Murray all signs everything. You could point to here
(08:10):
says Murray could be in trouble. So all signs point
to this as a game Murray is supposed to lose.
Now you know me, I got old dog in the
find anymore. I'm the Region one sports report guy. I
would be a how do I put this? I would
not be surprised if Murray won. I would not be
(08:32):
shocked if Murray won. But yeah, the expectation is is
that Murray is not going to win. They are the underdog,
they are not a favorite. They are not expected to
win this football game. I don't know if anybody in
the state really expects them to go and win this
football game, but we do now. I think I do
think their season could come to an end. I think
it's supposed to come to an end. But I'm gonna
(08:54):
be rooting like crazy for the Tigers on Friday night.
Winner of that game will play with the state title
game against either Cal Christian Academy Louisville or Bell County.
It's gonna be Cal. It's gonna be Cal. Look, Bell
County's good too, but it's gonna be Cal. But what
a fun I mean, just to get to this point,
(09:15):
just to get to this point for Murray High, unbelievable
what they've done this season. That's the Tigers, that's their path,
that's who they got on Friday. Let's take a break,
we'll come back. Puduka Tillman, oh a rematch of the
state title game.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
In four A. We'll talk about it right here.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
It's Region one, Kentucky's first region for a reason, Region
one Sports.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Region one Sports.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
As we move along here on your officially Wednesday edition
of this episode, Brian Yorke, here that number again in
case you want to text and let me know something
or let me know about it, or to give me
an opinion, a thought, or disagree you can two seven
oh five three four forty three oh eight two seven
oh five three four forty three eight. So we talked
(10:09):
Murray Howe, we talked their path, the Juggernuts of Lloyd Memorial.
Will they live up to the name. The expectation is
they will. But that's Murray's game on Friday. What about
Paduka Tillman, What about the Blue Tornado? Will they get
a rematch for the state title game? They get Franklin County,
(10:29):
They get Franklin County on the road. That should be fun.
On Black Friday, Franklin County unbeaten. The Flyers of Franklin County,
whose mascot is the Graves County Eagle mascot, but the
Flyers of Franklin County, they come into this one again unbeaten.
They have a sophomore quarterback who has thrown for twenty
(10:49):
nine hundred and twenty six yards that's two twenty five
a game, thirty six touchdowns to five interceptions. They run
the football as a team at one eleven a game,
with thirty one rushing touchdowns. They're main running back average
is about fifty three yards per game, five to eighty
one total in the season. They do have two receivers,
both over eight hundred yards on the season, both with
(11:10):
at least ten touchdowns, both averaging one at sixty nine
yards a game, the other at sixty five yards per game.
Both are seniors, so sophomore quarterback, senior running back, although
not a big threat, and two very good senior receivers. Defensively,
they have forced ten fumbles, recovered sixteen, actually, yeah, recovered sixteen.
(11:32):
They have two hundred and seventy two solo tackles.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
That's not a lot.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Ninety six tackles for a loss in thirty five sacks.
That's pretty good. Seventeen interceptions on the year. Four pick
six is more is their top guy. Seven picks. He's
got three touchdowns off that. I want you to keep
that in mind because this is where I'm a little
worried for Tillman. They've been a little interception prone this
season and Franklin Ranklin County they're a little bit of
(12:01):
an interception kind of team.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
You're Blue Tornado. To compare and contrast that.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
On the season, senior quarterback Stone Crow thirty six touchdowns,
fifteen interceptions, twenty nine hundred and forty one yards passing.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
That's two to twenty six a game.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
Very comparable to their opponent running the football, though Wilson's
been good DJ at eleven hundred and seventy three total
yards that's ninety a game, fifteen rushing touchdowns. As a team,
they have twenty eight Avery Thompson sophomore receiver one thousand
yard season, Cameron Wade an eight hundred and twenty one
yard season, ten touchdowns for Thompson, fourteen for Wade. Tilman
(12:39):
has forced nineteen fumbles recovered seventeen three hundred and seventy
eight solo tackles, seventy tackles for a lost, twenty four
sacks and fourteen interceptions on the season with six pick sixes.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
All right, So here's the deal. The Flyers get picked,
get interceptions. Tilman's been prone to throw a few of
those this season. That's my worry for Tilman on Friday night,
that's my worry. This is a rematch game. And here's
the question you got to ask yourself. Is Franklin County
as good, better or worse than last season? Is Tillman
(13:17):
as good, better or worse? We Tillman's not better than
they were last season, maybe not even as good. I'm
not saying they're bad. I'm just saying we need to
recognize how good that team was. So Tillman's not as good,
They're not better. What about Franklin County? You look at
the Flyers from a season ago. They went into that
championship game against Tilman unbeaten. They went into that championship
(13:41):
game against Tillman. You look at their numbers. Not as
good of a quarterback, not as good in passing, honestly, okay,
at the run game, actually pretty good at the run
game this season, they flipped it. Their strength is the
passing game. They don't do as good as the run game.
So they are kind of a different team. It hard
to say they're better. It's hard to say they're as good.
(14:02):
They're certainly not worse.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
They're different.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
But this game is not on a neutral field at
Kroger Stadium or Kroger Field, whatever we call it now,
at Kentucky. This game is at Franklin County. It's a
different animal. It's a different animal. And again, all signs
points of Franklin getting the win, All signs points of
the Flyers flying through the tornado.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
I hate when radio people do that. I did it,
Sue me.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Uh, you look at their schedule, and I didn't really
do this for the Murray matchup, but you look at
their schedule.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
Look at the Flyers.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
They pitched what one, two, three, four, five shutouts already
this season That counts one playoff game. The most points
they've given up all season in a single game was
thirty three and a one point thirty four to thirty
three win over Spencer County. Spencer County not that great.
Their record doesn't indicate they're necessarily a team that should
(15:02):
have been in that game. So there's that, right, there's
at least this idea that maybe they had a couple
of letdown games this season. They've been really good, but
in some games they weren't as good. They beat Bowling
Green twenty eight eighteen. I saw Bowling Green firsthand. That's
an impressive win. That's that's just an impressive win. So yeah,
(15:28):
Tilman's gonna go on the road. Tilman is not the favorite.
Tilman's not expected to win this football game. Would not
be surprised for Tilman to win. Would I be surprised
if they lose. No, they're not supposed to win, But
I wouldn't be surprised if they win. So Murray and
Tilman season still hanging in the balance. They still have
(15:48):
their opportunity. Friday night, the night after things getting we're
all gonna be stuffed and you know, fat on turkey
and tired from Black Friday shopping, which, by the way,
comes see me at Kentucky Oaks Mall. We got some
got some good things for you for Black Friday. Just saying,
but they're gonna be all stuffed in Turkey and where
we are and from shopping, and we might even forget
they're playing Friday night. Don't forget it. Tune in follow
(16:11):
watch them now before we move on. In our segment,
I said we talked basketball. We're gonna talk basketball in
our third segment, we're gonna talk things were thankful four. Now,
remember at Christmas time. It's one of my favorite times
because we get into that, we get into Festivus. Oh
we are the grievances. Can't wait for that. That's still
(16:31):
a month away. We'll talk about what we're thankful for
in a moment, but let's talk a little basketball here
now here on the show. As far as the official
housekeeping is concerned, we have done our you know, preseason
Power five, preseason rankings.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
We've done our players to watch.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
You can go back.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Those are on previous episodes. They're labeled you want to
catch it, go back and listen to it. Next week.
We won't have a new power ranking. We'll wait for
a full week of the regular season before we start
doing that. But sort of the things we want to
watch for, some of the things we're looking forward to.
So let's let's kind of start with our power rankings.
You look at the boys side, everybody has kind of
(17:11):
anointed McCracken County the preseason favorite, and rightfully so. They
have arguably the best starting lineup, may be the best
depth as well. So everybody's you know, we kind of
all can see McCracken is the team to be. We
kind of all concede they are the team you should
be worried the most about. If you're not them, who
should they be worried about? Like, like who behind them?
(17:34):
If you're starting the season, the question really becomes, and
I ask this every season, it's not about where he starts,
about where you finish.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Right but who would have the smallest gap to make up?
Because right now there is a gap.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
You go into the season, McCracken has a gap between
them and everybody else. Maybe it's not a large gap
necessarily with certain teams, but there is a gap. So
the question is not where you start. It's not what
you do with them in December or January. It's what
you do with them then and can you make that
ground up by the time you get to March. Keep
(18:08):
in mind, it's not a long season. I think we
mistake sometimes basketball season is being some kind of long
season where you got plenty you don't have a lot
of time. December is where you're trying to figure out
who you are, not playing a lot of Regional one opponents,
getting a lot of games, different looks, different opponents, different
styles of play. January you get your first crack at
(18:29):
some of these teams, and by February, you know, in
January you kind of start to figure out, you know,
like who you are, and then by February you are
who you are and that's just what you're riding out
to finish the year. So who are some of these
teams and can they close that gap? So again, McCracken,
(18:49):
you know, is who everybody's worried about. Who should McCracken
be worried about? I think for starters. For one, you
go down our list of the power rankings, you go
to a Graves County. The Graves doesn't that has the
size necessarily McCracken does with the Cloaks and some of
the guys that McCracken's gonna throw out there. But Graves
does have athletes. You gotta have athletes. They've got guys
(19:10):
like that, especially on the perimeter, on the wings. They've
got guys that are gonna play hard. They're they're trying
to take it back old school Graves County. They're trying to,
you know, be what that program used to be, and
they've got guys this year that can do it. Do
they have shooters that kind of was a problem last season.
I don't know if they have enough shooting, but they
certainly have guys that'll get downhill, make shots, good passers,
(19:33):
good perimeter defensive guys, and guys that are gonna hustle.
It's gonna be a team effort from Graves County. How
big is the gap that'll be something we're watching going
into the season. But I think that's a team McCracken
should be a little worried about. As always they should
be worried about Marshall County. Now I'm worried with for
Marshall and where their scoring is gonna come from. You
(19:53):
know how this goes though, there's always that kid, you
know that up until their junie they played a lot
of JV for Marshall because the senior group was good
and their position was kind of blocked. And then they
come out there their senior year, junior year, whatever it
may be, and they become that next guy that's who
Marshall County kind of is it is kind of a collective.
(20:15):
They've got Matthew Langey. Of course, what are the best
players in the region. But the question for marshall is
who's the other guys that are gonna step up. They've
got good athletes, they've got good seniors Mohler and Jessik
and some of the guys that'll be out there this season.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Can they score enough? Do they have enough?
Speaker 3 (20:33):
But I do think that's a team McCracken's worried about
because they again, again, you gotta have a dude.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Marshall's got a dude. I think Graves has got a dude.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
I think ty Cavot can be that guy when he
gets downhill and he gets locked in and he just
kind of uses his athleticism. Mccrackens obviously got a guy.
They got two or three guys. That's what makes them
number one. Then you go down the list and you
go to let's say Carlo.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
They got a dude.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
They've got why Rickard. He's a junior this season. He's tall,
he's lanky, he's athletic. Do they have enough around him?
That'll be the other question, you know, part of Carlisle's
problem last year was a little bit in their guard play.
Do they make that up? Have those guards gotten better?
Can they be the compliment to a kid like Rickard?
Can they be a threat to McCracken. I don't necessarily
(21:24):
think when you get to this point that Carlo is
a threat to McCracken as much as they may be
a threat to Graves, to Marshall, to one of those
teams ahead of them, that's not quite that far ahead
of them. If that makes sense, Then you go look
at Saint Mary and Saint Mary again. And I've talked
about this. You've got a kid like Griffin Mays who's
(21:46):
coming into his freshman year, who was a great player,
great sort of Scottie Pippen to the Michael Jordan of
Simms last season.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Can he be the guy? He's got the talent to
do it. But it's different now.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
Defenses last season and they had to pay a lot
of attention to Sims. It gave those other guys opportunity.
Now they took advantage of it and they were good.
That's the point.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
But when you're the.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
Guy, it can be a little difficult, especially when you're
asking a freshman to do that. Now they've got other
guys around him, and they're gonna be good, you know, uh,
the spur Kid and Puckett and some of those other guys.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
But what would they be without Sims Again, they've got
a dude.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
Can they be good enough? Are they a threat? I
don't think they're a threat to McCracken. They're not a
threat again, threat to Graves, threat to Marshall, threat to
Carlos Absolutely. And by the way, they play Carlosle County
on Tuesday. They play Callaway on Monday, so we'll get
a good look at Ballard out of the gate. I'm sorry,
at Saint Mary out of the gate. And then after
(22:45):
that you get into that kind of other conversation. What
about Murray. Murray's good. Murray's got Murray's got a couple
of dudes. You've got Maddix Mitchell, You've got Harris Moore
senior and a junior. Been there, They're done that. They're good.
Coach Doss, we've talked about it. He's doing some good
things over there. Are they a threat to a cracking again?
Not necessarily, but but and hear me out. They they've
(23:10):
got some dudes. You've got Aiden Armstrong over there, you've
got to coach. Cunningham's kid has come in. He's he's
expected to do some things. They got some depth. I
like them when it comes to being a threat to
those other teams ahead of them. And then after that,
you've just got some question marks. You know, call Away
(23:30):
lost a lot off that team. I get it, man,
They've got Luke Armstrong, they've got a good player returning.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
They got to transfer a Ac Strickland. Is that gonna
be enough? I don't know. You got Mayfield a big
question mark. I don't really. I mean the one again,
they don't.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
I don't think they play any I don't think they
play enough good teams for us to know if they're
gonna be good, at least not until February. And even
then it's not a great schedule. But but you play
the schedule in front of you and we'll see how
they are. But as far as who's a threat to
mccrack and, I think it starts there at the very top.
(24:08):
The Graves can be if they can put some things together,
Marshall can be. I like seeing Mary, I like Murray.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
I think they've got some dudes.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
I think they've got some talent. I like Carlisle. Can
they be that next level? Can they get into that
conversation that'll be something we're watching. Can they close the
gap we'll see on the girls side. Again, you look
at Callaway, they're the anointed preseason champs. They've got two
Division one players they should be. They've got some good
(24:40):
talent around them. I think they do move the ball
pretty well. I've seen some things online. I've seen some
of their scrimmaging highlights.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
They move the ball.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
They've got some guys, complimentary players. So who's a threat
to them, well, I think. Then you look at Marshall County.
I think they are the biggest threat, at least to
start the season. They've got a very good starting lineup.
They've also got you know, Kinsley Terry They've got They've
got Addie Wall, They've got talent that can kind of
(25:09):
at least keep pace with those the top two of
Callaway County. Then you look at Graves County. I think
they're gonna be a little sluggish out of the gate.
They're gonna they're still trying to find their identity. They've
got talent, they've got depth, they've got seniors, but it's
gonna take time. To figure out who they are without
a handug listen, just like it took a little time
last year without Morgan Alexander. But I think they can
(25:31):
be a threat. I think as far as depth and
athleticism and coaching, it's all there.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
Mayfield.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
Again, gotta have a player, gotta have that that player
you build around. They've got le May's. They can certainly
do some things. Are they a threat to those other
teams though? I think the gap has closed a little bit.
Don't know if they're a threat though to the number
one team, at least not to start the season, and
then after that again, we'll kind of have to see.
(26:00):
So that's kind of what we're tracking looking at and
things we're looking for the basketball season. Here's where these
teams are expected at the starting gate. There is a
gap the boys side. There is a gap between mccrackett
and the next level. So look, you know I'm big
on tiers. So on the boy's side, you put mccrackett
in tier one, You put Graves Marshall in Tier two. Yeah,
(26:24):
I would be good with that, and then in tier three,
I think you put Carlisle, Murray and Saint Mary. Now,
the gap between Tier one and two is you know, small,
but there's a gap. It's very very small between two
and three, a little bit wider between one and three,
and then I think you kind of have the field
after that. On the girl's side, you know, I would
(26:48):
put Callaway.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
In tier one and tier two, I'd put Marshall in
Graves and tier three, I'd kind of put Mayfield, and
then you'd kind of have the field.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
At least that's where we're starting. We'll see how it
goes when we get into it. All right, let's take
a break, we'll come back. What are we thankful for?
Speaker 2 (27:04):
I'm thankful for a lot. We'll get into it right here.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
It's Region one, your schools, your report, the Region one
Sports Report.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
Region one Sports.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
Our final segment on your Wednesday edition of the show,
Brian Yorke here and our last show for the week.
We'll return to action on Monday, So Monday, Wednesday, Friday,
we'll run three shows next week. I'll say this, I've
said it before. This is going to be difficult, no
doubt about it. It's going to be difficult once we
get into basketball season, recording the show from home, recording
(27:45):
it at night. It's just I don't know there may
be some repeat episodes that air a little bit this season,
with maybe days that you hear the Leach Report instead,
depending on how busy the night before excuse me, but
depending on how busy the not before was, depending on
how if I'm able to get to the show that
night before, I need to get to bed and get
(28:06):
up for my now new nine to five job. But
I'll do what I can, and that kind of leads
me into this the things we're thankful for. I'm thankful
for this show.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
I've talked a lot before about the journey of this show,
the hope that one day we could pass it off.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
To be honest, that's just not going to be a reality.
I just don't see that this show continues on. I'm
not saying that I'm integral or I'm like this important
person or figure, and without me it can't. It's just
look at how difficult it's become for me to do
it working a normal nine to five.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
Now.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
Granted that's also because I'm working nine to five and
then going and covering a Grapes County game, so I
don't have time in the evening to just come home
from work at five o'clock. And okay, I got a
record Reagion one. There's a lot more to it. Obviously
somebody wasn't covering games at night. They could do it,
but it's just finding that person who has a nine
(29:04):
to five who can commit to this. So reality is,
keeping this show alive was important to me. Finding somebody
would be important to me that to pass it off
to one day. I just don't think it's gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
And my point is of what we're thankful for and
what I'm thankful for.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
I'm thankful for you, the listener, through all that we've
been through the last eight years, from me and Chris
the Guy being a dynamic duo that started the show,
and how you know we kind of grasprooted it and
grew it from from the ground up from nothing.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
To grow to the audience that we had to be
on the radio for this long to be you know, a.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
Staple in the community that it's become that's you know, Yeah,
we put in the work, Yeah, we put in the content. Yeah,
we made our mistakes and done some good things and
done some bad things. And then the show changed. We
went through COVID, we thought we were going to lose
the show me and Chris did it from home like
I'm doing now, and it kind of changed, and then
(30:04):
COVID kind of we bounced back from it, and Chris
went and got a different job, and I was able
to come back to the radio station, and then the
show became no more duo. It's now me flying solo,
and you guys didn't just stay with us. The audience grew.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
It grew every year. It's continuing to grow. It's growing
right now.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
I check the numbers the other day, even amongst the
chan even in the midst of the change that we've had,
the numbers are bigger now than at this time last
last year.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
That's what we look at. So thank you.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
That's what I'm thankful for. I'm thankful we've been able
to keep this around for so long. I'm grateful for that,
and I'm hopeful that it continues to have a future.
I'm hopeful that I can get into a routine and
we can continue to.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Make it work.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
I'm fearful that it'll have to end at some point,
but I'm hopeful that it can continue. But I'm grateful
and I'm thankful for you guys. I'm thankful we've been
able to do this. Cannot believe. I cannot believe we've
been doing this for for now eight years. I can't
believe it. I can't believe in I'm saying this, and
(31:10):
I'm kind of looking at it now wanting to go
back and find the official you know, I can't always remember. Apologies,
it's been a minute, but yeah, October twenty eighteen. Wow,
October of twenty eighteen, so seven years were in our
eighth year of coverage. It's been incredible. I just can't
(31:32):
believe it. It's been a part of my life that long.
I built my house in twenty seventeen. My daughter was
born in twenty seventeen. She's in third grade. And the show,
the show would be a second grader.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
And again that's because of you, the listener. That's because
of your dedication to listen. It's because of your text
and your private messages on Facebook and your dms on
X and you you being there for us, you being
an outlet, you being there so we know this is
not falling on deaf ears, and it's not. You know,
(32:08):
I was reminded a few weeks ago somebody had heard
me talk about like, I'm not sure I'm hoping to
keep it up. Man, this is gonna be tough when
we get into basketball. And I'm recording this from home,
and how difficult that is. And I got it again
using the text machine, using our text line five three
four forty three oh eight, and somebody text and they
(32:29):
said I would hate for a ten. I'm reading their text.
I would hate four ten. I don't want a ten,
but man, if it does, I just want you to
know how appreciated we've been of this program.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
It means a lot.
Speaker 3 (32:44):
I'm thankful for that, that encouragement, because you have no
idea when I'm talking about Man, it's been tough in
my adjustment.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Part of that's been because of.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
I'm learning a new job. I'm training in a new job.
I think once that routine gets established, this will get easier.
But this is the difficult phase. And I'll be honest.
Even tonight, I came home and I'm looking at the
clock and I'm looking at man. I just I just
like to sit down and eat dinner and just watch
TV and go to bad like I'd like to be.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
Done working for the day. It is work. But then
I get those messages, I see the downloads and it
pumps me up. It pumps me up. So I'm thankful
for that.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
I'm thankful for the messages, the kind words, for the listenership.
I'm thankful for Basketball season is about to begin. This
is our time of the year. This is my favorite
time of the year. All I'm gonna be busy, oh man,
working a new nine to five and then flying from
there to get to a Graves game.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
It's gonna be busy, but I love it.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
Even my wife said the other day, she goes, I
don't know how you're gonna work two jobs, And then
she paused and looked at me, and she goes, never mind,
it's not really a job to you, is it.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
No, it's not. It's not.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
I would I'm gonna be there anyway, or at least
want to be might as well go get paid to
be there, right, So it's not. So I'm thankful for that.
I love basketball season. I love when we get into it.
I love being at the gym and the smell of
the popcorn, getting a cold Mountain dew and telling you,
the listener, what we're seeing, what's going on in front
of us at the gym.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
Love it. I grew up in the gym.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
My favorite times memories in high school was being in
those gyms from the moment I turned man. I think
I was seventeen when I started working at the newspaper
and covering high school teams. Started my journey. That has
been twenty plus years of covering high school sports. And
it's basketball season that that kind of brings me back
to those days. So I'm thankful for basketball season. I'm
(34:40):
thankful it's a week away, and I'm just thankful for
everything that's going on right now. But what a different, fun, exciting, thrilling,
stressful season that we're in. So again, thank you to
the listeners. Thank you to all of you that have
carried us to this point, continue to carry us to
this point. To all of you who text me, please
keep the text coming, man, we need them. I'm gonna
(35:04):
need them like crazy. When I'm coming home tired at
night on a Tuesday night and it's ten o'clock and
I've got a record for forty two minutes before i
can settle down and go to.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Bed, I'm gonna need content. You're providing it. Keep it up.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
Five three four, forty three oh eight that number. You
guys are awesome thank you, thank you for this, thank
you for listening, and I hope you have a very
very safe and fun and blessed Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
Be saying he again.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
Friday morning, come see me at the mall to first
two hundred shoppers get get swag bags.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
I've been stuffing them for two weeks.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
There's some good stuff in there, especially those cute puns
and gift cards and so much more. Somebody's gonna get
a five hundred dollar gift card of them all. Just
saying somebody's gonna get a five just saying, so, come
see us. It's gonna be a lot of fun on Friday.
Be safe, have a wonderful weekend. Best of luck to
the Tillman and Murray. We'll talk about that on Monday.
We'll get you ready for the first basketball games of
(36:02):
this the season. A much more hope you've enjoyed. This
has been Region one Sports
