Speaker 1 (00:00):
I've been debating whether or not to post this because
it still feels unreal. But it happened only three months
ago and it hasn't left my head since. For privacy,
I won't say the exact town, but this happened in Arizona,
somewhere along the Eye forty. I'm thirty two mail and

(00:20):
at the time I was driving cross country from Los
Angeles to Dallas for work. It was late, and I
pulled into this rundown roadside motel because I was too
tired to keep driving. You know, the kind neon sign,
half lit office with yellowing blinds, and a clerk who
looked like he'd rather be anywhere else. I got a

(00:41):
key to room six. The moment I opened the door,
the smell hit me. Stale air mixed with mildew. The
carpet was sticky in places, the bed spread had cigarette burns,
and the air conditioner rattle like it was about to
fall out of the wall. Not the worst place I've
ever stayed, but close or caught my eye though, was

(01:05):
the mirror. It was huge, covering almost the entire wall
above the dresser across from the bed. Its frame was
ornate but cracked in a few corners, and the glass
had this faint yellow tint, like it hadn't been cleaned
in decades. I remember thinking, why would anyone put such
a massive mirror in a tiny room like this. I showered,

(01:30):
left the TV on low for background noise, and lay down.
Around midnight, I woke up with this feeling that some
one was in the room, not noise, just presents. I
rolled over and saw the mirror. The TV was reflecting
in it, along with the bed. But here's the thing.

(01:51):
In the reflection, I wasn't alone. There was some one
sitting at the edge of the bed. I sat up instantly,
hard hammering. The bed was empty, no one was there,
but in the mirror the shadow was still visible, hunched
forward like it was staring at the floor. I grabbed

(02:12):
the remote and turned the TV volume up, just to
make some noise, but the figure didn't move. I told
myself it was just a trick of light. I turned
the TV off, completely pitch black except for the faint
glow from the curtains. The figure remained clearer now, shoulders,

(02:32):
head tilted slightly, hands on its knees. I didn't sleep
that night. I stayed sitting upright, eyes locked on the
mirror until dawn. When sunlight filled the room, the figure faded.
The next morning, I went to the front desk and
asked the clerk if I could switch rooms. He gave

(02:52):
me this strange look like he already knew why. I
didn't explain. I just said the ac was broken. He
moved me to roommate that night, same deal. I was exhausted,
but couldn't stop thinking about that mirror. My new room
didn't have one, just a blank wall above the dresser.

(03:14):
I thought i'd finally get some rest, but at two
thirty am, I woke up to a knock on the
connecting door, the thin one that separates adjoining motel rooms.
Three knocks, slow, steady. I froze staring at the door.
Then I noticed something that made my stomach drop. The

(03:36):
light from the neon sign outside was shining faintly on
the door's surface, and in the reflection of that light,
like a warped shadow, I could see the outline of
someone sitting on the edge of a bed. Except it
wasn't my side of the room. It was right where
the mirror had been in Room six. I didn't sleep again.

(03:59):
I left its sun checked out without a word, and
drove nearly ten hours straight just to get out of Arizona.
Here's the thing, I can't stop thinking about it. I've
stayed in dozens of motels since then, and I catch
myself checking every wall, every surface for mirrors. I even

(04:19):
started covering the one in my bedroom at home. But
two weeks ago, I woke up in the middle of
the night at home and my TV screen black turned off,
reflected my bed, and I swear to God, just for
a moment I saw it again, a figure sitting at
the edge. I don't know if it followed me, or

(04:42):
if it was never about the motel in the first place.
All I know is I can't look at any reflection
for too long without expecting to see it, and part
of me is scared that one night I won't just
see it sitting I'll see it standing
