(00:04):
Hey, welcome to Revisiting the Maniaof WrestleMania rewatch podcast on Carlos and Maria
and we're back two. We tooka little bit of a hiatus there.
I don't know what that came outweird, but hiatus. We just needed
(00:24):
a break. Fortunately, a lotof things came up. Unfortunately, Well
it depends some of us got sickoften not in a different weeks, and
one of us is locked up.So you figured that one out. Look
at that mean. So we're goingto aze back into revisiting WrestleMania and continuing
(00:47):
the journey of my wife becoming asmart mark. And we decided to go
with one of those matches that everyonerecommended in the polls. So this is
a revisit of the Hell in theCell match between Bailey and Sasha Banks from
(01:10):
twenty twenty, twenty twenty. Sowe're traveling back in time. We're taking
you with us. Yeah, youshould be super excited, I hope.
So I'm super excited to talk aboutthis match. Yes, So, do
you have any interesting bits, tidbitsor anything. I do have interesting bits,
but I have interesting tidbits to talkabout for this Hell in a Cell?
(01:32):
What do you got this to dateis one of my top five favorite
hell in the cell. So maybewe'll cover some more hell in the cells
after this. The match took placein October twenty fifth of twenty twenty and
it's a a pay per view event. It was for the WWE SmackDown Women's
(01:53):
Championship. And do we do theWe'll talk about the outcome later. Yeah,
the outcome later. Okay, Sothis is not the first In case
you were one dream, this isnot the first official women's hell in the
Cell match. Was the first onewas the Charlotte and Sasha Banks Charlotte Ruth
(02:19):
No Charlotte Flair, and that onetook place in twenty sixteen. We had
the measure, and we had themeasure. We had the pleasure of meeting
her daddy. Yeah, we hada very fun wrestle Cohn. We met
various superstars. Maria might have gottenvery close and personal with one particular superstar,
(02:39):
which will bring to you as anotherbonus episode. Well, we'll discuss
how our weekend went with meeting fans, meeting up with the podcast Championship Wrestling
Podcast Guys friends Doyle, Drey andWayne, and then meeting the Heard or
(03:04):
seen on our podcast and then meetingthe legends that were in attendance for Russell
Khan. You're talking about me,well besides you, but you know we,
like you said, we got tolike bump into him. We took
a group photo with Stings. Heis amazing. He's as nice as you
think you and he's very kind.Well, it's a little teaser for you.
(03:29):
So with that, we're gonna goahead and get into it. Now,
Maria, you are now familiar withBailey and you are familiar with Sasha
Banks. Now do you have anylike favorite or who are you pulling for?
Because at this time right now,Bailey, from what you know her
(03:50):
as is a face. So nowshe's actually a heel and she's got a
haircut. Before she used to racklike a side ponytail and when she was
in NXT and now she got likethat Karen Bob cut twenty twenty, when
Karen's were all the rage para styles, everyone had a Karen to complain about
(04:14):
faver raging. Yeah, okay,I didn't have I know some nice Karens
not saying that every lady named Karenis, you know, one of the
stereotypical ones that we had during thecoronavirus epidemic. But if you rewatch us
with Us after you catch this podcast, it's interesting because this is in the
(04:38):
mist of coronavirus, you'll notice thefans are actually on screen. Yeah,
so that was like a little strange. I don't want to say I was
taken aback by watching it, butit just, you know, reminds you
of what we all were going throughin twenty twenty. Yeah, and that's
almost going to be coming up tofour years, for about three and a
half years into this from when thatmatch passed. All right, so we
(05:03):
have a long standing rivalry between Baileyand Sasha Banks. There were two former
best friends were they also Attacked Team. They were Attack Team. Yes,
they were a tag team in NXT. Yeah, you had those tag team
like breakups type of thing we had, thinking back to like WrestleMania related ones,
(05:25):
right, The most ones that's likekind of a friendship but it really
wasn't was Tito and Rick the ModoMartel. They had Strikeforce and eventually it
took like maybe two or three WrestleManiasfor them to break up. And then
you had Owen and Brett. Theywere Attack Team for a little bit and
then they ended up breaking up.You kind of had that with well it
(05:55):
wasn't like a long standing tag team, but you had Hogan and Macho Man
Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior. Sothey're like precedent. No, it's just
you know, it's just the precedentof them. Like you know, they're
like, we're gonna build some tensionwith these two, these two baby faces
to make one of heal. Sothe storyline, the storyline is good.
(06:19):
You know, we have two reallygood friends, their friendship turns better,
and here we have this hell andU salve where they turn into enemies.
So for fans and for like newmarks and training like myself, let's just
added some layers of emotion because you'relike they were friends, but now there
(06:44):
and there's Kendle sticks involved, lotsof candlesticks, lots now their introduction to
these those candlesticks. Do you rememberback in like in the mid nineties when
like they had like news reports ofpeople getting beat in Singapore with Singapore canes.
Well that was a thing, Sothat's where the whole candlestick kind of
(07:08):
derived from. Yeah, there wasthings. So like they're like, well
we can introduce this wrestling. SoI can't find the first instance of when
Singapore cane slash candlestick was used ina wrestling match. But yeah, that's
where the whole iteration. Yeah,so that's the whole thing with the hell
(07:28):
in the cell. You know, there's no escape. You know, we've
seen We've already done one where wedid the Undertaker versus Mankind and Alan in
the South, which is my favorite. So there is you can't escape the
cage unless you start outside the cage. That's true, but you can't escape
the cage. It only ends witha pinfall or a submission. And this
(07:51):
was a very This was a goodway I think for this particular rivalry,
and few too pretty much culminate.I was gonna say it, you haven't
watched it, go back in ourepisodes and watch it. We really enjoyed
watching that match over again. Didyou get to watch it live? I
did get to watch it, likeI was overseas I think at the time.
(08:15):
So they had to watch it afew times just because I was so
shocked when I saw it. Goahead and put that in the and the
description for our you know, ifanyone wants to go ahead and click and
see what Maria's thoughts about that payper view match was about nineteen ninety eight
Helen us out again. It's likeone of the most iconic matches of all
(08:39):
time, in my favorite to date. So, Maria, so now that
we've got this, you know,Bailey's the heel, Sasha is the face.
Do you who are you rooting for? I'm running for Bailey, Okay,
any particular reason why, I'm justa fan. I think it's more
like I have seen her wrestling oflate, is still part of the WWE,
(09:01):
and so I just felt like sincethey have more face time with her
that I'm I'm still a fan ofher and I'm rooting for her in this
match. What about you with thisone? I am a fan more of
heels. If you go back andwatch her our particular breakdowns of WrestleMania's and
Bonus episodes, you pretty much seethat I side with heels. It's for
(09:28):
me. It's just like who doesn'twant to be a bad guy and you
know, enjoy the benefits. Thereare some people and like wrestling that you
know, like Jimmy Hart I havebrought up where he was a manager for
lots of heel tag teams, andhe'll talent and then at the end of
(09:48):
the day, he didn't want tobe known as a heel manager. He
just wanted to be loved. Butit's just having that whole psychology of knowing
what button to press, what todo to make people boo you, or
you know, like to throw yourbeer at you, or to do other
things at you, like, youknow, just to get the crowd riled
(10:11):
up, right, So without risk, there is no reward. And some
of my favorite spots during this matchincludes Sasha inks her Meteora from the top
rope to Bailey in a ladder wasa standout moment for me. Also when
we see Sasha toss Bailey into thosestill steps, it was a pretty iconic
(10:33):
moment of this match as well. What about You? That was one of
them. There was lots of usesof candlesticks if we haven't gotten to it,
but I like that whole Like thematch starts out pretty much, I
am Sasha's favor. You know,Bailey's carrying around this chair that she used
to injure Sasha around her neck,so she carries it with her phone.
(10:58):
But the match starts off where Sashadrop kicks it and then it slides out
of the ring, and kudos tothem for being able to get that timing
right, because like the cage isbeing lowered down and then Bailey's just holding
it. She's not paying attention toSasha. She has her back turned,
(11:20):
and then as soon as she turnsaround, Sasha drops kick the chair out
and it just slides out. Andit's not like it barely creeps out of
the dropping area or the drop areaof the hell in the cell. It
like makes it all the way tolike the barricades. So that's one like
(11:41):
just based on that timing. There'sjust a lot of good things that Bailey
does as a heel, And Ireally wish that this match would have been
in front of people, like alot, like hearing the crowd, like
getting that instan in reaction of havinglike someone there hearing the yeah and just
(12:07):
being able to be like, yes, I'm doing that right, Yes this
is what we wanted or this isthe time, which is really weird where
they didn't get any type of feedback. So normally, what I feel and
what I've learned ad over the yearsis that when wrestlers are in there,
usually they kind of like maybe callan audible or maybe in the bag to
(12:31):
call an audible saying you know what, this is not going the way we
wanted to go. Different direction.Yeah, so we're just going to change
the finish or we're gonna change andflip everything around. This is pretty much
this is going to go how it'sgoing to go, no matter what,
because we can't tell until like eitherthe next day or whenever we have a
(12:54):
show like next or whether we readthe reviews or comments things like that to
see what we should go, muchlike this podcast. Yeah, so there's
a few things on the line thatwe talked about. Bailey has a three
hundred and eighty day Championship ragn soand that gus ended well yeah, and
(13:16):
then it doesn't end up getting brokenin this particular match. Now the announcers,
which we have, Corey and MichaelCole are talking about someone who had
like a ten thousand day rain.Do you know who that person? Myan
Goodness, who isn't? Can Iguess you can guess? Sean, Michael,
(13:39):
No, this is for the women. Oh shoot, I thought this
was like the Undertakers like eighteen andnothing like the res But I'm not gonna
guess. Technically, fabulous Mulahla.Yeah, this is guys. I did
(14:01):
not think that I would hear thefabulous Mula's name in this episode. So
I got to give you that tiptbecause they bring it up, but they
don't tell you the Mulla's name, and I think that's because of that whole
thing where she had those allegations goingaround. Yeah, so so they brought
(14:22):
up the reign of Mulla but didn'tgive her her well deserved props. But
is it well deserved because if youlook back on it, the reason why
it's like ten thousand plus days isbecause there's like certain air gaps in years
(14:43):
where the title wasn't defended. Okay, so they just kept counting it as
Mulla having the title during that timeeven though she didn't technically have it.
I like that you take note ofthat because that's not something that I would
put together. So one of theother things we get to see being using
the Bank statements. Yeah, whatdo you think about this because you mentioned
(15:03):
that you you are very getting familiarmore with Sasha. So her name is
Sasha Banks. She called it shecomes out and Michael Cole, which annoys
me, but it probably makes youhappy because her, it's boss times time,
so she like five five, five, six ladies around the same time.
(15:24):
Yeah so, but it's the wholething is just annoyment. Is a
cousin of Snoop Snoop, you know, pretty awesome connection as well. And
I can't tell you during this timehow many of my guy friends. I
can't remember a few. But Ijust love Sasha Bangs so not that much.
(15:45):
I think it's that I'm enjoyed aSasha Bank. I don't. I'm
not saying that I don't appreciate whatshe's done to progress women's wrestling and the
w w E, and now she'sworking on doing it at a but I
just don't think that for me shehas that particular she's not bossing you.
(16:10):
Yeah, well, I like whenshe uses the steel chair she enhances that
hole. Yeah, the same steelchair that for some reason we're able to
get back. Remember how I toldyou that you get to the barricade.
Well, eventually, when it wastime for that match to get finished and
to bring that chair in, itwas propped up against the steel the steel
(16:32):
cage, so I'll Bailey had todo was prop the door open and then
squeeze it back through but I foundthat that was pretty funny. I mean,
I like to see talk about it. Bailey going face and heel,
we see some versatility between her character. I thought this match overall was a
decent match and definitely a rewatch Norifor me, what about you? Yeah,
(16:55):
it is definitely one of these thatI recommend that we as wrestling fans,
whether we're you were like fans likemy wife Marina, or like an
older fan who's been watching season veteranwho's been watching this for maybe thirty thirty
plus years. This is a matchthat we have. You know, we
(17:18):
have to go out of make goout of our way, make twenty six
minutes and thirty three seconds. Socarve out a half hour of your time
of your day if you haven't seenit, to watch this match. This
is a very good match with goodmatch psychology. You don't get the reactions
from the crowd, but these ladiesare still able to pay pay off this
(17:41):
storyline with you know, a faceand a heel. This is Sasha Bangs
for a third third one, athird match within Helena self. Yeah,
this would be her third match career. I think this was, if not
(18:03):
her second, is probably the third, she has another one with Oh I
mentioned the Charlotte one, and thenthen she has another one with Becky Lynch,
So that would have been I thinkthe year before, in twenty nineteen.
But if I'm wrong, please donot hesitate to correct me. Mostly
(18:25):
some of this is going coming offmemory, and sometimes my years and my
days and my months get crossed,so well we're gonna get Yeah, but
you thought it was a good finish, Like the only thing I didn't like
was the finish, Like I understandwhy it was used, like she used
(18:45):
the chair to give her like thatleverage the bank statement and kind of like
uh putting like some type of ointmentin the wound, like hey, you
use this chair against me, NowI'm gonna use that chair against you.
Like I understand like the psychology behindthe finish, but it didn't look like
(19:06):
Sasha had very good familiarity of usingit because sometimes Bailey has to kind of
help her and get herself into thatposition. So I just would have liked
maybe I'm not sure if they calledit there during the match or if they
just didn't get enough time to practiceit, but if they were able to
smooth and feel that like make itmore fluid. I probably would have enjoyed
(19:30):
it more. I like the storyline, I like the build up. I
like the friendship turned into better speAenemies. I enjoy the wrestling gear,
their outfits. I like the work, and I think this is good ring
psychology. I hear that people considerthis one of the best hell in usalls.
(19:52):
I think Gray was telling us,Yeah, y friend from Yes,
who is who we're going to tryto get back for our WrestleMania thirty.
He's been joining us pretty much sincethe beginning. He was our first guest,
and we got him for ten,we got him for twenty. So
when I trying to bring him backfor thirty, right, yeah, so,
(20:15):
but yeah, that was one ofthem. We put out the poll
on YouTube also so we can getlike more feedback because as much as I
like to go through these rebusits withyou on WrestleMania, there's only so many
more WrestleManias we can do? Howmany? So we ended up at twenty
(20:37):
eight, so we have, youknow, twenty nine through forty to go.
Eh, and then I think eitherby thirty one or thirty two they
start being two day WrestleManias and wehave the opportunity to go to WrestleMania forty
and there. So now it'll beinteresting seeing what you thought when you were
(20:57):
there in person. Yeah, Ican't wait. And now how we react
again when we rewatch it Peacock.Yeah, next year's Vegas, so we'll
see. So other than that,do you have anything else to add about
this particular match? No, butif you like this and you like to
(21:18):
talk about wrestling, we're working andbuilding a community here. We love to
talk old wrestling, new wrestling. We have tons of favorite matches that we've
talked about on this podcast. Definitelylike this video, Subscribe and recommend us
to a friend or share us.Yeah, I wanted to give that.
(21:41):
