Maria will be giving her reactions to the legendary matches and memorable spots for her first initial viewing of the event. While Carlos will be revisiting the event. Sharing his thoughts from when he saw it live and comparing it to his reactions now. While answering any questions Maria may have as a smart mark in training.

We will witness legendary matches like The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels in their unforgettable career-defining encounter, and Triple H defend the WWE Championship against Randy Orton. This WrestleMania also saw John Cena battle it out for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Triple Threat match.

are revisiting the Mania WrestleMania Rewatch podcast. I'm Carlos and I'm Maria Carlos,
and I are going to break downWrestleMania twenty five, WrestleMania's twenty fifth anniversary,
and I'm going to give my thoughtsand reactions and opinions as a new

fan to sports entertainment. And I'mgoing to be watching WrestleMania twenty five and
trying to remember the bumps in thestorylines, but also see if there's any
of these matches that still hold upto us now fifteen years later. We'll
make our recommendations. Her as anew market training and me as I guess
the season veteran, and if we'reready your season, we'll get into it.

All right, So it is WrestleManiafive is live. It's coming from
Houston, Texas and the new footballstadium they built at the time for the
new franchise, the Houston Texas Outof Reliance Stadium, right, but as
you Houthonians know it now as theEnergy Stadium. That's correct. Adding that

timbet there. So we start offhere with the national anthem being saying here
by a well known celebrity. Youmay have known her. Some people know
her as Nicole Scherzinger, but Iknow her as Jessica Glitter. Why do
you know her as? Because Iam a fan of how I met your

mother and that's how she's introduced tous in the show. Yeah, so
we're moving on into bigger and granderstages. Just to give you insight as
far as how big the stadium was, how big was it? It was
pretty big because look at that shot. Wow, that's huge, right,
and that's a dome. I don'tremember if it's retactable the roof or not,

but yeah, can we also sayrest in peace to the e CW
because Extreme Championship Wrestling this was thelast WrestleMania to feature that brand. Well,
they say that it's the last timethat featured a brand, but they
have no championship match like they didin Wrestlmingia twenty four where Kane decidedly just

squashes Chiwi Girrero and so there's likeECW people wrestling, but there's no mention
at all. From what I canremember, we just watched this like a
little bit ago. What I'm sayingI don't remember them mentioned ECW that many
No, So, like you said, this is April for two thousand and

nine. Attendance for this WrestleMania isover seventy two thousand. They clock in
at seventy two thousand and seven hundredand forty for patrons. Nice they call
him patrons, participants, ticket holders, attendees, attendees, that's the word.

Okay. So we have the firstmatch here, which is a money
in the bank a ladder match.We're back to starting the pay per views
with the ladder match. This goesfor fourteen minutes and thirty two seconds.
Ye. This match features Cain Montel, Montevavias, Porter, MVP. I

still didn't say that, right,ZM. Punkul, Christian fit Finley,
Shelton, Benjamin and making his WrestleManiadebut, Kofi Kingston Coffee. So,
Maria, this is Did we mentionthat this is the twenty fifth anniversary of

WrestleMania and did we talk about thetagline? The tagline was the tagline?
It's the same. It's also thetwenty fifth anniversary of WrestleMania. So before
this first match, we see someamazing pyro So, Vince is like the
guy from Jurassic Park. He sparedno expense for the pyro. Did you

like it? Did you love it? I loved that line when I said
it. When we're watching this payper view, what I don't recall?
Okay, So, like you weresaying, we see Calfee, this is
his debut money in the main laddermatch. This match goes for fourteen minutes
and thirty two seconds. Were youexcited to see this kickoff with another ladder

bitch? I was excited to seethe kickoff with this WrestleMania pay per view.
Okay, mainly because it's we sawhow it is without the the ladder,
the money in the bank ladder match, it was like, not very
exciting, and now we have somethingthat at least will get the people into

it. There's a lot of wrestlershere on that when it's matched them,
I'm sure we're crowd favorites. Uh, Koffee, who are your favorites?
I'm kind of curious. Well,at the time, it probably looking at
this roster, it would have beenChristian, And now looking back at it
here, I'm still a fan ofChristian, but I'm also a fan of
Koffee and how his career has progressedfor the past fifteen sixteen years that he's

been here with the company, andof course Shelton Benjamin. But other than
that, that's about it. Soif you're wondering band's friends, Carlos husband
so my favorite DM Punk Sid FinilyKoffee. I'm surprised you didn't mention king

not a fan of king I know, I just had to say that Mark
Henry MVP and Shelton Benjamin so Ihad quite a few. Yeah, and
it sounds like you had the majorityof the roster or the people in this
match. I was excited to seeit. I enjoy a ladder match and
this match for me was a lotof fun and just off the bat was

definitely a recommended match for me.Right, let's go over some of the
spots here. Now, we hadKofi Kingston, who brings a little bit
more energy. Is he's a littlebit more agile and faster than everybody.
Yes, he had his boom drop. I believe this is what this moves
call where he's doing this, I'mChristian and Shelton Benjamin boom I'm not sure

he does that, but it's agood, good try. We also have
him before that spot where he wasdoing that, we hit him do like
a trot kick onto the ladder.They also do. There's one thing where
I couldn't find a picture of itwhere they try to close line them with
the ladder and he jumps over it. So that was pretty cool. We
had Hornswaggle getting into the mix.And then we had this little toll hole

splash right what it was called.That's what they called it in it,
and I'm assumed, like during thepay per view, I was assuming that
we would call it there. That'sa really good spot. We had a
dueling suicide dives here by Koffee andseem Punk, also another one of my
favorite spots. Yeah, so itwas a very fun match filled with like

good spots that we have seen.They have added more kind of versatility with
Koffee, like before it would haveto be like shelting that had to do
like all the little high flying movesand putting everything together. None that he
wasn't, Like my wife said,awesome, but it was good to see
that he didn't have to put allthat pressure on himself to make those high

(07:55):
spots work. And yes, guys, gals, you counting This marks the
fifth annual Money in the Bank laddermatch that was announced for this WrestleMania,
So I thought that was pretty cool. Yeah. And then for news marks
like me, the winner just youknow received a contract for a future World

(08:16):
Championship match anytime within one year,which is pretty cool. Man. So
we end up having CM punk win. He was the first back to back
winner. If you're wondering why helost, is pretty much after he won
the two thousand and eight Money inthe Bank Wrestlemingia twenty four, he cashes

(08:39):
in on Jeff Hardy and he endsup losing it because his title reign isn't
as popular, and then it justyou know, no, it would think
at that time CM punk was likea baby face, and we haven't like

(09:03):
embraced Phil as a baby face.Maybe to you, but it seems that
Phil's or see him Punk's natural stateof a wrestling characters, him being a
heel, him being the a whole, him being that guy that you need
to hate. And that's why Ibelieve that his run after this one,

(09:28):
he catches in this later on onEdge. I believe this or I might
have him crossed when he catches iton Edge when he catches it on Jeff
Hardy, but he ends up havinga more successful title run as a heel
after this. I mean I cansee him heal all day, So that's
pretty interesting. So you recommend thatpeople rewatch this match, I definitely do.

And as for me, there's Mywife has mentioned five money in the
Bank ladder matches that have been happeninghere in WrestleMania since WrestleMania twenty obviously,
so as far as the past orthe previous five that I recommend that you
watch, this one would probably rankas the third one, like middle of
the pack. It's not the moneyin the Bank one to watch. I

still believe that it's the first onethat happened WrestleMania twenty one, right,
Yeah, Shelton mentioned when was thestart of that one? And then they
kind of do like twenty two,takes a break and I think he either
comes back in twenty four or twentythree, but it kind of spikes up
again. But my still my favorite. If you're a longtime fan like myself

that's been watching Geeze, then youwant to go back and watch one.
This would probably be maybe so farout of the five that I revisited the
middle of the Pack one. Iwill still say rewatch the very first money
in the Bank one, and that'sa good recommendation. So, like I
said, this is a recommended matchfor me first one, not the dark

match that we didn't have an opportunityto see during this WrestleMania, But I
thought that this was pretty solid.Benjamin Shelton, Benjamin has a pretty good
sentan bomb, awful ladder, andlike you said, Koffee uses the latter
as like a weapon, which ispretty awesome. So I definitely recommend that
you watch us. And who's thewinner none other than yeah, he's victorious.

I was thinking of that other themesong victorious m M for with wrestler
I'm blinking right now. That wasBobby Rude and it was one of his
word with it was glorious. Ohglorious that it's victorious? Isn't in the
words? Is that where they're likeglorious? Yeah, I'll be victoria.

Oh. This brings us to aten minute interlude of kid Rocks mean randomly.
Uh, I guess it's not randomly. I guess Vince didn't want to
pay or Vince didn't want the Davasto be introduced all at once or winning
or did you want to I kindof do just a little bit. Okay,

So this is Punk's second consecutive moneyin the bank ladder match victory,
which was pretty interesting to me.And so this earns Punk a guaranteed future
world championship opportunity. He scales theladder he wins, and also what belt
is a big goldie for this oneor what is it belt? It's not

(12:39):
a belt. He wins the contract. He wins a contract. Sorry,
I want that. So he winsa contract. So that basically wraps it
up. I just had a notethat CM Punk was victorious at the end
of this ladder match, which againI am a fan, so I was
really happy to see. And nowwe can go to the twenty five women
Battle Royal for the title of MissRessia. That Kid Rock sings for about

ten or twelve minutes because assuming thatVince did not want to have the divas
be introduced one at a time,so they all show up while Kid Rock
is singing, but they're not shownwalking to the ring. Eventually all the
divas make their way into the ring, and inside of the ring, we
have lots of names you're probably familiarwith. We have the bell the Bella

Twins, Bree and Nikki. Wehave Mickey James. Yeah, we have
Mally Holly. We have Katie LeeBurchill, Victoria, Tori Wilson, Tiffany.
We have the return of Sonny.We have Kelly Kelly. We have
Layla Maria making the WrestleMania debut,Maurice, Alicia Fox, Eve Torres,

Gail kim Uh and Natty Naddy.Natalia Heart makes her WrestleMania debut in this
And it's pretty hard to keep trackof the action in this one. You
really don't like get enough time tofocus on this match. In particular,

this match does go for five minutesand fifty seven seconds. For you saw
your figure for twenty five women inBattle Royal. You should at least maybe
get like seven maybe ten minutes.Yeah, but we only got around close
to six minutes. We get aboutseven minutes in about twenty seconds. I

enjoyed this match. Was this arecommended match for you? No, it
is not a recommended match for me. That's a recommended match for him.
I really enjoyed this match. That'sgood. What did you enjoy about it?
I had it was good to seea lot of favorites like the Bellot
Twins and Natty. I was reallyexcited to see this match. Also,

it was a little over the top. We're seeing who's going to win to
be crowned Miss WrestleMania, and Ithink you saw this. This is the
first ever Miss WrestleMania Battle Royal.I thought it was pretty over the top
because we have a character that's introducedbending the rules, and that is Santina.

(15:26):
Yes, Santina, who is thesister of of wrestler Santino Marella.
But we all know that Satino isactually cross dressing here and that is not
him or it's not his sister.So Santina Santino finds a way to get

(15:48):
himself into a WrestleMania using his comedicchops and everything. So what did you
think about did you enjoy like alittle bit of the humor? I did.
I enjoyed the humor. Early eliminationsfor this match were like Jillian Hall,
Malina, and we also had theopportunity to see w W e legend

(16:11):
May Young, who we all knowis a favorite of ours. She made
a surprise appearance as she was ringside. I believe right, she was
a guest timekeeper, which you know, I'm always pumped to see her.
If it's not her getting like supflexed what by the Big Show, or
her in a funny interlude, It'salways good to see me young. So,

(16:36):
like you said, we see SantinaMarilla Enters dressed as twins since twin
sister Santina Marilla, and I thoughtthe character was a lot of fun and
it was pretty cool to see herworking in the ring, or should I
say barely working in the ring,because she didn't make a lot of moves
until we So that's the only thingI really enjoyed about this match is as

(17:00):
and wife pointed out, it wasa little like should I get involved?
Shouldn't I get involved? Let mehelp you that Santino or Santina was doing
throughout this match, and there's alot of wrestlers that kind of have incorporated
doing that particular not a heal orcomedic type of trait, but you see

(17:22):
that with No, you don't seethem with Golda's I can't think of her
name, Chelsea Green where she haslike that Karen like kind of me attitude
and during this past royal rumble thatwe had for the women. She was
kind of like that where she's like, I don't want to get involved,
but I do want to get involved, please don't kick me out, and

(17:44):
things like that. So it waslike, as far as watching this match
and recommending him for someone to goback and watch as a newer fan like
yourself or as a longtime fan asmyself, I don't recommend it, but
if you do have five minutes andyou do want to watch, like some

(18:06):
particular characteristic that has probably inspired otherwrestlers such as Chelsea Green and actually inn
NXT. Right now, his daughter, Arianna Grace is kind of doing kind
of like a comedic type of thingthat's kind of like her father's type of
nish, but she's making it herown. She has a little thing where
she's like a beauty queen pageant andshe's trying to go out there and trying

to teach the women how to bemore womanly. But she still has those
little kind of traits like her dad. So this one was a lot of
fun. Recommend for me, passfor you, and with that that takes
us to match number three. ChrisJericho versus The Legends of Jimmy Superflies Nooka,

(18:52):
Chris excuse me, Roddy, RoddyPiper and Jimmy Superflies Nuoka who who
in their corner is retired wrestler whoprobably wanted to be in this match.
Rick Flair, he looked like hewanted to be part of this match.
This match goes for eight minutes andfifty seven seconds. Yeap, Maria,

(19:15):
you were a fan of the rowdyone yes, Roddy, Roddy Piper all
three against Jericho. That's fair,right? Sure? Why not? I
thought this match is pretty okay.So this is a recommended match for me
with a caveat. Ooh, okay, go ahead, I I want to

(19:37):
know what the caveat is. Okay, So, like you said, we
have legends in the ring, JimmySnooka, Ricky Stembau, and Roddy Piper,
who I am fans of. Theyare legends, they are wrestling legends.
But it was hard for me towatch Roddy in this match. You

(20:00):
know, you like to see himlike if they're announcing, if they're like
a gats this you're getting inducted intoa Hall of fame. You have like
maybe off on spot, But thiswas a little hard for me to watch
until the end when we see RickySteamboaut do his thing, and he was

(20:22):
still wait for it, wait forit. He was legendary. So that's
why this is a recommended match forme with that caveat. What about you,
Yeah, I totally agree with youranalysis of it. Like seeing this
like we see, let's get somepictures. So we have this clothesline that's

(20:44):
being performed here by Jimmy and thedragon Jericho. As you can see the
dragon here on this pictures to theright and or whichever direction, and super
Fly, the dragon still looks likehe goes. He's still can you know
he's a little bit more fitter thanSnooka. But unfortunately Snooka ends up tapping

(21:07):
here. But then you get alittle bit more of a clear up shot
of the dragons athletic build here.And then Rick Flair Piper gets in here.
He doesn't do much as my wifeMit Jennie ends up getting pinned.
He's wearing all black, and Ithink he's wearing all black for a reason
to appear more slimmer. Wait,I am not wearing black right now,

(21:30):
hold on, get something. Ididn't get too many shots of the dragon
in action, but after the Dragonloses. Yes, Jericho is so ahead
of these legends that he ends upbeating all three. Rick Flair decides to
get involved because Jericho's still attacking theDragon after the match has ended, so

(21:52):
he gets in there and he startsgiving Jericho some chops. Those are awesome
chops, so that was like anotherfavorite slapperty slash. And eventually Jericho gets
control and he takes a back bodydrop. And where did he take it?
Because that was a hard body drop. He took it because Rick Flair
is Rick Flair and he believes thathe can still go even though he just

(22:17):
retired the previous year, So I'mgetting body dropped. Eventually. This match
was supposed to have Mickey Rourke asJericho's actual opponent, but since Mickey Rourke's
management team did not want to actuallyclear him or it felt like it would
hurt Makey Wort's chances at the Oscarwhich spoiler alert if you are, for

(22:41):
some reason not following the Award showfrom fifteen years ago, Mickey Rourke did
not win for his role in TheWrestler. That was a hard movie to
watch too. Yeah, but ifyou liked the movie, yeah, and
if you like the movie and you'relistening or watching right now, post in

(23:02):
the comments and tell us what youliked about the movie. If you want
us to have Mario rewatch that movieand give her tidbits because she did not
share those at the time with usbecause we weren't a podcast yet. Yeah,
let us know what rewatched that moviefor you guys and share it.
But Mickey Rourke gets involved, hegets called out from the audience, he

gets to the stage or to thering, excuse me reluctantly, and he
just ends up laying out Jericho andthat's it and the legend's lost. Though.
Yeah, so I don't recommend thismatch unless you want to watch like
the last two and a half minutesof it to see Ricky the Dragon go.
You can see why this is this. Fifteen thirteen years later, Ricky

still has his final match, andeven recently when I watched a sting retirement
match from ae W, the Dragonstill look like he could still go.
So it's interesting. I know heretired and he's like, this is it.
I'm no longer going to do anything, and I believe him, but

anywhere goes no take you out inthis match. Particularly yes, but Riggy
Dragon steamboat from now probably he's like, no, I'm done, I would
take a break too, But excellentwrestling by him. Uh, definitely a
fan of Seine player. He lookedlike he wanted to jump back in there
and that was pretty awesome. Sothat was really cool to see it during

this match. And so this isnot a recommended match. No recommended match
for me with the copyat of justwatch the wiki the Dragons part and this
takes us to match number four four, which is brother versus brother Jeff Hardy
Matt Hardy in an extreme rules match. This match goes for thirteen minutes sixteen

seconds. I'm not saying that I'mbetter than anybody, but I'll never say
that I'm worse. That's a heartyquote. Who quoted Jeff. There's a
big difference between the quotes between Jeffand Matt. Matt's we're a little Matt
is I think if I've never likethere's like if I was to get an

attitude, yeah, I was like, oh, well, you see,
like Jeff comes out and he hasall this makeup and everything like this here,
let's give a picture brother nero Mattover here and then Jeff harden Is
on the right. Yeah, JeffHardy on the left, and this guy
for Jeff Hardy does have some demons. One of them is a letter D

r ugs in case there are kidswatching, and lots of substances and other
words. Well, it's interesting thatyou say that because just in this year,
we're going to talk about this andget into it a little bit.
So in this year we see himhave this huge push. In two thousand
and nine we're talking on Jeff andthen with his personal issues, we see

a slip in his performance and he'seventually released the same year in two thousand
and nine, which is pretty tragic. I think it comes after like he
gets arrested and I think he getsarrested with drugs in his vehicle and it's
a lot amount of drugs and theyI think it's like consider trafficking at that

(26:33):
point. So yeah, Vince didn'twant anything to do with that. So
Wow, it could be this yearor it could be thinking of another year,
but he does eventually get caught likethat, So I'm wondering. So
coming into this match, I hadsuper high expectations because we've seen these guys
in ladder matches before, and theyalways wracket. So what did you think.

(26:56):
I thought when I first saw this, I thought I really didn't care.
I'm not a mad Henrdy fan andI'm not a Jeff Pardi fan.
I was excited. I know youwere excited. But now now on contrast,
like, we've watched a lot ofWrestleMania's up to this point twenty four,

(27:17):
so I was hoping that this wouldbe like Owen versus Brett from WrestleMania
ten, where they gave us likea very good match and we got like
the little brother beating the younger brother, you know, the little brother.
I was thinking, yea Owen Wilson, right, we just saw that movie.
That's okay, okay, but yeah, this this match kind of lived

(27:41):
up to it, except for wedidn't not get the younger brother beating the
older brother. No, we actuallyhad Matt retaining here. And we'll go
through a couple of the spots thatwe like. I remember you mentioned that
you were like, look, he'scleaning he's cleaning house. He's cleaning house
with the giant beeg. So Meggo aheads and goes ahead and finds that

(28:06):
I don't know where you would usethat in the ring. But yeah,
we have Jeff Hardy with no regardfor his life. They set up two
tables. There's one table. Jeffgoing through one table was enough. He
decides to set up another table ontop of his brother Matt, and he
lands through that table to get toMatt. The other table does not collapse.

(28:30):
Wow. So that was one ofmy other favorite spots. The sandwich
you don't want to be a partof that looks like it hurt at What
about you? What did you thinkabout this? Anything that sticks out for
you? Like? Well, likeI said, I was really looking forward
to watching this. I had highexpectations, high hopes for this match,

(28:51):
but it was kind of a letdownfor me for a WrestleMania match. I
just didn't hit the mark for me. We see Jeff to twist the fate,
but he couldn't get the pin andyou know, this is a no
DQ's match. We had some excellentspots, but I can't say that it
was a recommended, recommended match forme. I actually will say that I

(29:15):
recommend this match. This is oneof the fewer matches that I feel like,
do actually have these guys shine andlike it ends in the most brutal
way, I think. So wehave Jeff miss a leg drop from this
ladder that he sets up a higherladder next to like, and he decides

(29:37):
to jump over that ladder to givehimself a leg drop on Matt. Matt
moves, He decides to get achair. He puts Jeff's head through that
opening of the chair that you seethere and then performs a twist of fate
there and gets the pin in thewind. So a big brother beats his
little brother at WrestleMania. This isover twenty minutes of carnage. Definitely recommended

(30:03):
match for you. Surprisingly a passfor me. Do you have any additional
tipbits about this? No, it'sjust the psychology of it all. You
know, like Matt had just comeback and he had screwed his brother out
of Uh out of winning the championshipagainst Edge at the Royal Rumbo. So
this feud had been going for awhile and this was the right particular match

(30:27):
that you would need to kind ofend the feud where you know, they've
grown up with each other, theyknow each other's moves, they know what
makes each other tick quote unquote,and what else are you going to do
besides having like a steal cage matchor or like held in a sound match
or anything like that, right,and these brothers were deemed to have be

(30:51):
the kings of extreme along with Edgeand Christians, So why not just put
them in something that they can actuallylive or something in a arena that's familiar
to them, having ladders, garbagecans, wet backs, Singapore canes.
So it was a fun match.So as far as if you had never

(31:15):
seen if you're a new fan likeMaria, where you haven't seen anything of
the Hardys before, and for somereason people are like, hey, I'm
gonna watch Son twenty five and you'relike, well, how about you watch
Matt versus Jeff? Oh yeah,I would say in that case, then
watch this. That's this is apretty good match, pretty good representation of

(31:37):
them as well. And if you'relike a long time fan, this is
a match that it kind of showedwhere that Matt and Jeff can actually work
on their own and usually they werelike in four ways, three ways,
and not a lot of time wherethey got one on one matches, whether
Matt was getting the singles run orJeff and this point was getting a singles

(32:00):
run. And we saw that withBrett and Owen back in the days where
Brett was the main guy like Jeffthat was getting pushed and Mat is like
kind of like the Owen guy.So I guess you could say that even
though like the rolls are reversed asfar as age wise, it ended up
having like the same guy win becauseOwen wins and WrestleMania ten and then Matt

(32:24):
kind of is like the Owen andhe ends up winning. So well,
you're kind of turning me into ohwith Aught. He was a good point,
so you're kind of making me movetowards having this be a recommended match.
So I guess with this one wecan move on. Okay, this
one won't get to I guess it'snot a WrestleMania unless you have a squash

(32:49):
