Speaker 1 (00:08):
Hey, welcome, thank you for your patience. We are revisiting
the mania WrestleMania Rewatch podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
I'm Carlos and I'm Maria, So dust off your wrestling
belts and join us. Well, we break down WrestleMania thirty five.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Yeah, we will ask you Wrestling thirty five. Me as
a longtime fan who's watched them all since WrestleMania one,
and my wife this is her first time watching this.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
In particular, I'm your resident market Training. I'm here to
help break down every match with Carlos, and We're going
to give you recaps, and I'm going to give you
some jokes maybe not so funny, maybe terrible, maybe so
bad that they'd make Bobby Heen and Grove oo grown.
So let's dive.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
In, all right. So this is a wrestleming and that
took life, took place and MetLife Stadium. This is located
in between New York and New Jersey, yes, right, And
this event happened on April twenty nineteen, So for.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Those that are new, this is WWE's flagship event. Like
Carlo said, April seven, twenty nineteen, it took place at
MetLife Stadium. Did Hulk Hogan say MetLife.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
I believe he said the MetLife Center. And you figure
I pulled this up for us that when Alexa Bliss
introduces him, because she says that she can make a
WrestleMania moment happen at any point in time, that Hulk
Hogan would just look up and see that it says
Medlife Stadium. But unfortunately, Hulk Hogan, like everything else he does,
(01:58):
fails to come up and read the name of the stadium.
So we get the met Life Center.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Met Life Center. Okay, so my Life Stadium. We're in
East Rutherford, New Jersey. This event drew over eighty thousand people.
Last ats that we have are eighty two thousand, two
hundred and sixty five fans, making it one of the
most attended WrestleManias in history, although I feel like every
(02:27):
WrestleMania is the most attendant in history, but those are
the numbers that we have. The show was very successful.
There was at least over sixteen point nine million dollars
and ticket revenue alone, and they sold out in a
matter of minutes, so the event actually contributed locally as well.
(02:49):
Over one hundred and sixty five million dollars was the
economic impact to New York and the New Jersey area,
so say love.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
It was also contributed to a lot of headaches because
this event went very long. They finished, I believe, a
little bit past midnight local times, yes, not including the
four non televised dark matches. But then you also have
this long run time. Like I mentioned, they're already going
(03:21):
past midnight local on the East coast, right, and nobody
thought to inform the local transit authority or whatever the
New York New Jersey metrorail. I don't think out if
you were there and you were one of the many
(03:42):
thirty thousand, fifty thousand, I forget what the number is
that was stranded, that was unable to get public transportation,
that was unable to book a book and uber or
lift to get back to wherever you were staying.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
You are one of our friends from Four Sides of
the Ring, a fellow wrestling podcast, then.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Let us know, Yeah, what the local New Jersey transit
system is.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
We'd like to know about this because this event is
historical for many reasons. It's the first ever women's main
event where we have Becky lynch Ron, a Rousey, Charlotte Flair,
and a winner takes all triple Threat match to claim
both the Raw and Speckdown Women's Championship.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
We have Kurt Angle's farewell match, and we have kof Maniaia.
And if you want to talk about Bautista and his
match with Triple H, we can go ahead and talk
about that as well. I mean, we will be talking
about it, but if you want to talk about it
(04:56):
further and what you didn't like and what we didn't
like about it, well dive into that.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
So if you own a VHS copy of WrestleMania three,
gather around three. Well, I'm just saying if they're a
longtime fan of wrestling and WrestleMania, if you own VHS tapes,
then stick around. You're infra ride.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Yeah, I'm infra ride to today.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Even know where was doing in Wrestling thirty five? Yes,
you didn't even know you'd have that.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
I didn't expect that connection. I mean, did mention the
Pontiac Silverdome, So good callback on that doing research.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
You're welcome. Dust off your wrestling pults. We're about to
dive into this.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
All right. So the first thing I'm going to show
you guys then also is the setup, because I love
these outdoor setups. This is very similar to the outdoor
setup that we got to see on WrestleMania forty that
we attended in here and set four the stage versus
WrestleMania if you see back there, it's a little bit
(06:05):
smaller than the one that we had in Philadelphia. So
first match, right.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Yeah, So we have a Universal Championship Seth Rollins versus
Brock loves.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Rock bar Rock Lesner Lesner the ohther time on that
do not have the time on them, Well, we can
go ahead and look it up, look it up, but
go ahead, Oh, we have.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Seth Rollins to six' one versus Brock Lesner at six
' three there. Seth is about two seventeen and Brock
is about two eighty six. So Seth the architect Rowlins,
a man who looks like he shops at a hot
topic and fights like he's on a John Wick movie,
took on Brock Lesner, the human rocking ball who's part
(06:47):
time WWE superstar, full time farmer.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
So the runtime of this event of the match is
two minutes thirty seconds long minutes, yes, but it has
like a little bit of amish before and we'll get
into that here. So we have Paul Hayman. After Hukogan
fails and naming the MetLife Stadium, Paul Hayman rushes out
there and he is saying that his client, if he
(07:13):
cannot main event this WrestleMania, his client demands to be
the first match in this WrestleMania card.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
I feel like Paul has been taking all the straights
for twenty twenty four and twenty twenty five.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Yeah, so once this happens, these guys start coming out,
and once brock Lesner comes out, he's just tossing Seth
Rollins around.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
So, like you said, best match is shorter than my
attention span. So we see Seth win with a low
blow and three stumps, proving that even the beast in
Karna can be taken down. Yeah, by a wild place
kick to the junk.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
And multiple stomps. As you said, it took about three
stamps to take our Seth for Seth to take out
brack Lesner. Now, how did this work out for you?
Because Seth Rolins wins the royal rumbo? You have that
Seth Rollins could have faced Daniel Bryant and he could
have faced obviously he chose Brocklesner. Do you feel like
that was a good thing for him, like to go
(08:10):
because brock Lesner. You know, now we have Seth Rollins.
He was the architect of the Shield. He brought down
the Shield last or two years ago. He was in WrestleMania.
He was the King Slayer because he took down Triple
H and now he's the Beast Layer, the Beast Slayer
because of brock Lessner is the Beast incarnate. So what
(08:35):
did you think about that? Did you like this match?
Do you do?
Speaker 2 (08:38):
I love it? I like it well. I thought this
match was the equivalent of heating up a hot pocket, quick,
messy and over before you can process it. But for
a WrestleMania I enjoy Seth Rollins, who's doing really well
on WWE today today. I like this match. It was
(08:59):
a good kick off, nice and short, two you know,
main characters, and for a kickoff of WrestleMania, I thought
this was fine. I would say revisit.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
You would rewant to revisit. You would recommend any fan.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Our market training to revisit us.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Okay, and why do you feel like they should revisit it.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
I thought it was short, and I thought it was spicy,
and I thought it was a quick match to get
things started, a nice warm up for the main events
that were coming up for WRESTLINGIA thirty five.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Okay, I see your points nowice For me, as a
long time fan who's watched many of these previews, I
recommend What I liked about it is that they try
to build seth Rollins as an underdog. He had to
come from behind, and he had to use a couple
of cheap shots in order for him to come here.
(09:51):
There was lots of brock Lessner dominating with his German suplexes,
and we may get a shout out about being in
suplex City. B I T h uh. And then you know,
once that low blow happened, the finish happened fast, and
I know if I was one of those many was
it eighty five thousand fans that were in attendance, and
(10:15):
I had already been there for about eight Okay. If
I was one of those fans, and I had just
seen Tony Nice and Buddy Murphy and a Cruiserweight and
the seventeen Women Battle Royal Tag Team Championship match, and
the thirty Man, the.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Thirty Man and the Giant Memorial.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Right, and I would have been happy to at least
see give me this match would definitely giving me like
a little pop up, a little shot of adrenaline, and
I don't know what it is, but people love Seth
Rollin's winning.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
So yeah, as a newer fan, I will if I'm
recommending this match. If someone was like, hey, I want
to watch so manya thirty five, what do you recommend,
I'll be like, yeah, watch the first match. If you're
a newer fan, if you're like the older season veteran
and you're looking to see, well, I got time to
(11:10):
kill and should I watch this match? I'm wrestling when
you're thirty five, I could say you can skip it.
But if you're having like lunch and you're like, hey,
what can I want? Real quickly? I want to see
brock Lesner because I keep getting rumors that he might
be coming back, So let's see what that beast can do. Yeah,
feel free to do so. But my sake that that
(11:32):
we move on to match number two.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
Other Styles versus Randy or in the legend killer right.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Two veterans of wrestling here, and this match goes for
sixteen minutes and twenty seconds.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
May I also say that there is another legend in
the ring with Randy ort in the legend Killer Cool.
It's his hair, AJ Styles. His hair looks amazing during
this match.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
AJ styles hair is a got it.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
So AJ's five eleven, the phenomenal one, and he is phenomenal.
But surprise, there's also another phenomenal person in this room
with us. Oh, I'm so Randy Horton. Horton, Randy Ranny
Orton was six five, about two fifty at this time.
(12:26):
And I really enjoyed this match. I thought AJ really
brought it. What did you think about that?
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Okay, what did you what did you like about it?
Speaker 2 (12:35):
His wrestling style, I'm okay, I am. He was flying around,
he was up and around, he was all about. I'm
a really big fan of this match. I thought they
did really well as a pair together, and I really
liked it.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Okay, As for my take, like I understand where you're
coming from, like seeing AJ styles his particular style of wrestling.
He's a very well rounded wrestler. He could do the
technical spots, he can do the acrobatic spots, and he
could do a couple of power moves. So I could
(13:16):
see how you're like digging it and mostly Randy Orton's
moves are just like power based, I guess you could say.
And these two guys have been veterans already. Randy's already
been here. This is twenty nineteen, so he's already been
here for about he's technically been wrestling for twenty years,
(13:37):
but inside the WWE ring, I believe it's only been
like eighteen and AJ Styles has been wrestling for around
the same amount of time, if not a little bit longer,
from his times over in New Japan and TNA wrestling.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
I mean, I would say that some veterans would think
that maybe in HBK or like a Bret Hart match,
superior to this match, but I thought it was pretty decent.
It's a solid match, and for the second hallivised match
of WrestleMania thirty five, my recommendation is that eerie visit
(14:13):
if you enjoy watching two professionals do their thing without
a NA shenanigans. I liked it. It was good.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Yeah, like you said, this is a solid match. It
had some good spots. We had Randy Orton being the
aggressor and stomping away on here, and this is just
a little bit of taste of AJ Styles acrobatic ability
they have that He also does the Payley kick and
then he does the phenomenal forearm splash here onto turmbucle
(14:45):
and process. It's also very impressive, and you figure that
these guys would have like a better match for this
like that you mentioned. This is a solid match. It
has some good spots where you know in some heeled
tech that we get from Randy Orton, and Randy Orton
is like the heel if we're putting baby faces and
(15:07):
heels into the psychology of it here and he does
a thumb to the eye he did like that stopping
routine that I mentioned for you know, we get all
the key like Marquee moves from these guys. We get
the r KO obviously, the four to fifty splash from
aj styles. We get the draping rope DDT that we
(15:30):
always get. Like they hit all their moves and everything
that would make a fan be excited h New York. Yeah,
it's like maybe if it wasn't as long like I think,
(15:50):
if they cut like maybe three or four minutes, it
might have hit a little bit longer. They didn't need
had to have that room to breathe to extend it
out like, you want your WrestleMania moment, but you also
need to know when to cut off your WrestleMania moment.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
So for me as recommending this to a newer fan,
I would not recommend it because there's other matches that
Randy Orton and aj Styles have not together. But I'm
just saying, like that a WrestleMania, they're a little bit
more memorable than the one that we're seeing here. So
(16:30):
I say that whether New York fan or older fan
or veteran like the pass, I say passed yes and
with this and I say, hey, yeah, But next week,
the next match we have here, which I forgot to
change the chairan, so we'll do it this time is
the fatal four way match for the Tag Team Championship
(16:52):
the SmackDown Ones. This one has the tag team of
the Bar continuing their third WrestleMania as a tag team
on the card with Russev and Shinsk Nakamura and the
Newer Team making their WrestleMania debut. Alistair Black, who is
(17:16):
leaving ae W Wrestling, but he was known as Malachi
Black over there. There's rumors that he might be coming
back to the w W ely as his wife is
currently working inside of the company, and we have Ricochet.
He was in w W E and Ricochet is engaged
(17:41):
to the former announcer Samantha Irvin, but they're not married yet,
and she's also left the company. But now he is
an ae W. So we'll take it here and this,
Oh yeah, and then the Husos. I can't forget about
them hot right now. They're still dominating the tag team
(18:02):
Division five, whether it's in twenty twenty five or twenty nineteen.
So they're still doing some hot stuff out there. And
this match goes for ten minutes and ten seconds.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
So they have a combined weight leoso's those twins of
four hundred and seventy eight pounds.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
Do you think it's evenly split or do you feel
like one is heavier.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Than only one is heavier than the other one. So
I thought this was I'm a fan. I really enjoyed
this WrestleMania thirty five. I don't I don't know what
it is. This has to be like one of my
favorite WrestleMania's just because there was just a little bit
of this and a little bit of that. I really
enjoyed watching the usso's Russell as a tag team. I
(18:53):
thought they did great. They had that you know twin
magic Russif. I think he's cool. But I'm more a
fan of the Ussos all day, so I enjoyed this match.
I'd actually say watch it so you can see the
trajectory of the Ussos from that point as they're moving
(19:14):
towards eat or no yats. You know. Now, I thought
it was pretty cool. I had a good time watching it.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
Okay, So with this one, I liked that it's a
fire pat fast paced match and you got to see
all of the tag teams highlighted here. Everyone had their moment,
but to me, there was no other bigger moment than
this one, in particular, wheresus Arro is taking Ricochet for
her ride and its Seamus is just over there giving
(19:46):
beats of the battery to everyone who is wanting to
come up to the apron and take them. So that
was a cool spot on one of them. They had
this other thing I don't remember if you remember. I
didn't get a picture of it, but they're all in
the corner and then they do I think they think
the movie is called The Tower Doom yea, and they
all like yeah, they all get either back body dropped
(20:10):
or soup lex over and ricochet rolls out of it.
In the end, you mentioned that the USOS and their
tag team, there's them doing the double kick and then
they eventually do their USO splash, because I know that
they normally start doing the one D, which is kind
of like they're finish your move, kind of like reminiscent
(20:31):
or called back to the Dudley Boys three D. Right,
But at this point they're still doing the splash. They
end up splashing and coming down and getting the pin
in the win. So with this one, I liked that
it's like a little bit of like fun to see
all the spots. It was a little bit chaotic for
a little bit. But I feel like now as far
(20:54):
as like the other match where I said that you
could have trimmed it like three or four minutes, these
guys probably could have had like a little if you
would trim that one the AJ and Arc and Randy
right and give them the time remaining. I think this
would have had one more If they could have like
a couple of more spots or sequences, this match probably
would have stood out a little bit more and I'd
(21:16):
be able to recommend it for that particular one. But
as far as this like, it had some memorable spots.
If if you want to see something you know as
far as how to book and how to highlight, if
you're a fan looking into deeper and fantasy booking, or
for someone that's out there, that's probably be the only
(21:39):
reason I would recommend someone to watch it. But as
far as like a casual person, a newer fan, or
someone who's like, I'm bored, what do I watch? No,
I recommend that you would skip.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
It and say, if you'd like to watch a spot,
fast watch this one. There's a bunch of cool spots
in this match, so I say revisit. Carlos says the chit. Yeah,
all right, And with that that takes us to match.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
But before we move on to mention them, before we
have the twenty nineteen WWE Hall of Fame inductions and
with this one, we kick it off here with your
favorite for the early WrestleMania events, Brutus the Barber Beefcake.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Yeah, I like the Shenana guns.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Okay, so you approve of this one. And then we
had someone representing the Warrior Awards, Sue A Chison, who
was the She was the creator of the no I
think she was the liaison of the Make a Wish
Like she made that connection for w W to start
doing the Make a Wish Foundation, Like people want to
(22:53):
meet you and things like that, So how about we
make that happen. And then we had Torri Wilson here
Diva who was formerly with the w c W, who
made that transition over and as she mentioned in her
Hall of Fame speech, had a lot to do with
a lot of fans puberty, that's funny. And we had
(23:17):
the honky Tonk Man. The honky Tonk He was one
of my favorite not because he looked like Elvis and
he was the longest reigning Intercontinental champion until Coonter ended
up taking over that distinguish mark at six hundred and
(23:39):
sixty six days. The honky Tonk Man was for four
hundred and ninety days, I believe. And we had Harlem
heat Booker T and Stevie Ray. This was a tag
team from primarily w c W. They were a pretty
good tag team. I was a fan of them, but
(24:00):
you know, do I feel that they deserve Hall of
Fame spot? They do have some moments where they do.
But let's go ahead and give it to them, you know, to.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Watch some of their matches. I don't think I have
watched any other matches.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
Yeah, if you are watching I'm more familiar with and
you have any If you are a fan of Haarlem
heatn't have any match recommendations for Maria, please drop a comment,
send an email. Do not hesitate to give us any
more content that you enjoyed or that you want us
to watch, so you can enjoy hearing Maria's take. Also,
(24:40):
if you've made it this far, thank you very much
for watching us.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Please subscribe.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
Please subscribe if you have not done so already. And
the next one we move on to is the Heart Foundation.
This is a post humous hosts that it's a post
induction for the end Night Heart as he has already
passed away. Brett Hart is there and Naddy's there to
(25:07):
induct her father into the w W Hall of Fame
as the tag team the Heart Foundation.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Looks like a Sweetheart.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
Yeah, and he Brett actually ends up getting attacked there
by a random fan. If Brett Hart wasn't having enough
hard time already with strokes and everything, he had to
fight somebody off at an induction And then last but
not least the main event inductees de Generation X. And
(25:37):
with this one, we also had China getting and this
is probably going to be the only way China gets
into a w W Hall of Fame induction less TKO
Sports or somebody manages to take away like their stringent
views on China needing to do what she needs to
(25:58):
do to continue making some type of money.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Wow, wow, interesting.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
Yeah, what did you think about that class? You've got
to see mostly all of these people huh.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
Yeah, wrestling. I thought it was a pretty decent class, Like,
no additional comments. I was China, you know, was maybe
an awarded on her own. She was an excellent wrestler
and groundbreaking. Also, she took a lot of heat, so
you were another people that gave her a lot of heat.
So worst be nice, be kind. But with that, that
(26:33):
takes us to match number four falls count anywhere, the
Miss versus Shane McMahon.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Right, and that match goes for fifteen minutes and thirty seconds.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
What did you think about this match?
Speaker 1 (26:51):
I thought it was actually good. Like you normally hear
me complain if you've watched our videos or watch anything
that might have had like a false count anywhere, a
street match, like no holds barred match, things like that.
They always stay near the ring, and these guys, actually
(27:14):
this did not keep it inside of the ring. This
is a rivalry that you know by now if memory
serves me correct, and I should have done a research
and its right out of time. Shame was this competition.
He went to trophy saying he's the best in the world.
They have a tournament. This is when they started doing
the Saudi shows. Vince got like a billion dollars to
(27:39):
do shows in Saudi Arabia twice a year, so they
had a contest over there and Shame was the contest
to be the best in the world. So that's why
if he didn't notice and you didn't have any contexts
when you're like, why is this. Why would Shane be
rating this ring announcer and telling them to call him
the best in the world. That is why. Because he
(28:00):
won the trophy and he feels like he should be
acknowledged as being the best in the world. So with this,
you know, and then the miss is talking about how
his father's life dream is for him to be a
tag team with him and for them to win the
tag team titles. So with Shane, miz is going and
(28:23):
telling Shane and then he finally come into Shane and
they win the tag team titles. But well, thing I
didn't like about this is I feel like maybe Shane
should have been the face like he's been like primarily
the whole babyface run since he came back, like when
(28:47):
he faced the Undertaker and when he faced aj Styles,
when he faced who do he face to Kevin Owens?
So it should have continued that little Miss does to me.
Miss I feel does his best work as a heel.
So I should have felt like, especially since the dad
(29:09):
gets involved here, we'll break into the so we have,
you know, Shane mcman starting out fast, but eventually, when
he's about to do this sleep that Shane has been
doing for the past few WrestleManias, his father, the Miss's
father gets in there and he's like, please don't do
your elbow drop to my son from the turnbuckle. I'll
(29:29):
get this announcer's table. And then mssus dad decides to
start standing up for his son to Shane McMahon and
Shane has to pretty much help him and how to
hold his hands out. This eventually gets the ire of
the Miss, the myth starts coming back and this is
when they starts taking it away from the ring, which
(29:49):
I enjoyed. And then they ended up having this finish
where the Miss gets a sup plex uh Shane off
of this s aling and the way they end up
landing is where Shane ends up landing on top of
the Miss one two three, pinning the wind and the
(30:12):
Miss loses to Shane McMahon, who continues to be the
best in the world. So I thought it was like
a very entertaining brawl. It's a good use of false
count anywhere if you, as a newer fan, wanted to
see a match at a WrestleMania. There's been many matches
(30:32):
that have been like false count anywhere, no holds barred,
things like that. The one I can think of that's
a false count anywhere, like for some reason it's taken
out to me is when Macho Man had faced Crush
and that match it's a false count anywhere and it
ends up going behind like into the locker room, but
(30:53):
it ends because Macho Man ends up how tying Crush.
You remember that one?
Speaker 2 (30:59):
I think, so yeah, so yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
Like this one actually had an end and it was
you know, besides, like the weapons, use the TV monitor,
a chair, the the you know, shame being hit and
then he takes the spill over the guardrail on top
of a golf cart and then he falls on the
(31:24):
floor like Shane as much as like people may not
be a fan of Shane, Shane very chartismatic. He does
not shy away from taking the bumps, taking the high spots.
And that's why I feel like this is a very
entertaining match, and I would feel like I would recommend it,
(31:44):
Like besides, I feel like the second like it probably
would have worked better the other way. If you're a
newer fan and wanted to watch what falls count anywhere
match should be or how it should like give you
some type of payoff, I definitely recommend this one.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
Right Yep. We have the miz who's like an a
lister in wrestling, Shane McMahon, like you said, who's been
jumping off of things and taking bumps since the Attitude era,
And I would say watch us. Definitely revisit. It was
a recommended match for me. I would say revisit if
this you're new market training or your season veteran of
(32:22):
wrestling for WrestleMania thirty five. It just made part of
Like I said, this is one of my favorite WrestleMania's
because I had just a little bit of everything. We
had two retirements, we were welcoming people back, which we'll
get to later in this episode, and it was it
was wild. It was just a really good match. You know,
(32:43):
Shane pulled it off. He did it again with those
high flying stunts. So yep, watch it.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
Okay, Now with that one, it takes us to match
number six in the car.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
Yeah, what do you think about this match? Because this
is the woman's tag team Championship Bailey, Sasha Bangs versus
Beth Phoenix and Natalia versus Naya Jacks and Tamina versus
the Iconics.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
Yeah, so this match goes for ten minutes and forty
five seconds, right right, So you asked me what I
think about this match? So I've always been pro the
women getting the tag team Championship. So the belt came
around around I think February of twenty nineteen. So the
(33:30):
belts are fresh, they're like freshly printed, They've just been made.
Boston hug Connection. Shasha and Bailey were the first Ignow
not Gruel champions of the Women's Tag Team Championship belts.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
We get a little time away from the kids, and
we don't know how.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
To act, right, I don't know how to speak, you know,
but you know the match was at this point in time,
even though you have kind of like a mismatch or
bag of people thrown in together, like Naya and Tamina,
like they're part of the bloodline, they're part of the
(34:08):
Samoa and Oyi family. But they don't have a tag
team moniker name. You know, they don't have a Boston Hug.
They're not the Iconics, they don't have anything like that.
So they're good and they're thrown in together. But you know,
this was primarily I think basedic thrown together two of
these teams. Father is Jimmy Superfly snooka resting piece. Even
(34:36):
though he he did have some questionable things that he
did along the way in his life. I still do
not wish ill on him past as he's passed, you know.
But we also have Naddy and Beth Phoenix. Beth Phoenix
coming out of retirement to help Natalia, one Canadian helping
out a fellow Canadian, and they actually do one of
(34:57):
the Heart Foundation moves, the heart attack Daddy.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
I'm a big fan of you. I haven't for a
long time.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
So with this one, what did you think here? So
we are you as a woman happy to see that
the women are getting more I have type of opportunities.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
We have really excellent wrestlers here. You know, Bailey and
Sasha and a slouch Beth Phoenix, Natalia, Naya, Jax, Tamina.
You're more familiar with the Iconics with they're wrestling, but
I was a fan. I'm a fan of most of
these ladies here, with the exception of the Iconics, and
(35:35):
that's only because I haven't really seen them wrestle. So
I thought everyone looked great. I thought the wrestling was good,
and this four way tag match to crown the first
every woman's tag team champions for this WrestleMania thirty five
again was part of that whole thing where there was
just a little bit of this and that and why
I like this WrestleMania thirty five so much? Was it
(35:57):
worth re visiting for Moir me us. The Iconics were
over the top when they won, and I enjoy watching
tag teams. If you watched this before, you know that
I enjoy seeing a good tag team and you have
quality wrestlers here, so you can't beat that.
Speaker 1 (36:15):
Now, you mentioned that I'm more familiar with the Iconics
the Iconics have. The reason for that is because they
were presented mostly in NXT okay, so I got it's
like when you watch your favorite indie band progressing through
the stages, and that's how I felt like. I felt
(36:36):
like these ladies had something. You have Billy Kay who's
primarily like the little goofy one, so she's more into
making the jokes type of thing, and Peyton Royce is
like maybe like kind of like the diva ish, but
it has that bravado type of thing, so they balance
each other out. So with this, we get a slow
(37:00):
start to the match, but we get the tag teams
all on the same page knowing that they had to
take out Naya and to me that I have a chance,
especially Nya, right, and then it feels like it kind
of starts picking up towards the middle of the match
a few minutes after this, because then we get all
these combination tag team match moves. We have this in particular,
(37:22):
we have the Frogs excuse me, a double shoulder tackle
by Beth Phoenix and Natty and then we have like
a power bomb by a spinning power bomb by Natty
and here, and then we have the Iconics. Because these
this is kind of like not like a comedy type
(37:42):
of thing, but you know, like you said, they're full
of themselves, so they're a little cocky, and you know,
they decided to do their little iconic polls while they
have some time. And this match pretty much ends after
a few little bumps and bruises. Here, but Phoenix has
(38:07):
I believe Sasha Bailey on the corner and on the
turnbuckle about to do her clam slam and she hits it,
but Peyton Royce actually goes up and touches but Phoenix
for the blind tag. But Phoenix is not a word.
The Iconics take her out, and the Iconics are the
(38:29):
new WWE Women's Tag Team Champions. And like you mentioned,
I'm not the only one that was happy about this.
It gets a huge ovation and pop from the crowd.
And for this, do you feel like this is a
match people should go back?
Speaker 2 (38:48):
And rewatch I would say that it's iconic, but I'm
thought vested it. Why not, you know, like we just said,
it's one of the first types of matches of it's
kind for the women again part of this overall WrestleMania
(39:08):
thirty five that I enjoyed. For me, it's a rebsit
for you, It's probably not a revisit for me.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
It's a visit for a newer fan because it's it's
it's a very simple match with clear psychology. You know
who the heel is, you know who the faces. There's
no confusion or anything about that. This match you had
two heel teams, Tamina and Yaya and the Iconics because
(39:36):
they get the cheap win, they're technically by heel. And
then you had the two faced teams the Boston hug
Connection and Natty and Beth Phoenix. So I mean, it's
a very simple match for someone who's looking to get
into wrestling, who wants to understand like tag team wrestling
(40:00):
is in particular, because a four way match can be
sometimes very difficult to pull off. You have to have
a little bit of balance to it, and you don't
get any balance here, like if you're like nitpicking at
this for a professional, like a veteran's point of tape,
(40:22):
because as much as you get three of these teams
in there, like the ones I mentioned Boston, Hugg, Iconics
and Naddie, and you don't get a lot of work
from Nya and Toomina after like the fifth or sixth
minute mark that like completely disappear and likes and Hug,
(40:42):
which was the boss you Boss Hug. And with that,
I just recommend that if you're a newer fan and
you're wanting to get into you know, into watching wrestling,
and you've already watched what we were recommended up to
this point and you want it one more thing, Yeah,
(41:05):
I think you will watch it, especially I think you
should watch it, and I think you will enjoy it,
especially Iconics. To me, I'm for some reason like a
big fan of like the cheesy heel or like the
little like cocky heels. Like my favorite tag team right
now is Pretty Deadly and they're kind of like the
(41:26):
mold of what pretty Deadly is now. And I don't
know what it is. I just you know, it's fun.
It's fun to me, so I recommend you watch it.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
So it's fun. That's me serious all the time. So
that that takes us to match number six WWE Championship,
Kofi Kingston versus Daniel Brian, one of my favorite matches
of this WrestleMania thirty five Kofee Kingston being honored. It's amazing.
(42:00):
I thought it was great.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
Yeah, so Kofee Kingston Kofee Mania. The whole storyline here
of Koffee's journey to get a WWE championship match. Daniel
Brian had his gimmick pelt, which is supposedly made of
hemp and wood and other recycled materials along with stones.
(42:22):
This was Daniel Brian's heel run quote unquote, and what
did you think, because it's like two different like characters
here you have the heel and then you have like
the poppy, bright color, enthusiastic, energetic Kofe Kingston.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
Well, he's an excellent wrestler. He's an outstanding wrestler. Both
of these gentlemen are outstanding wrestlers. But this is Koffee's
nights and I'm glad that he was honored. The ultimate
people would say an underdog. I'm always reading for an underdog,
the eco friendly heel like you were talking about the
(43:07):
matches eleven years in the making for Coffee.
Speaker 1 (43:11):
Yeah, has always been part of the tag team. I
believe he was a tag team champion obviously, with the
New Day, but before that.
Speaker 2 (43:22):
Championship most iconic, you know, the very charismatic, you know,
like all the things. Koffee's victory had me crying. Many
people in the audience, we're shedding tears, just like I
was watching the end of the Lion King or something
like that. I was all miss Ci. I like the
(43:45):
tribute to him, I like the wrestling, and was up
for me. You can see Biggie in the background, his
facial expressions, very charismatic. Again, I like the trio. I
like seeing him wrestling on his own and again against
a really good wrestler, really great wrestler.
Speaker 1 (44:06):
Yes, yes, yes, yeah, yes, yes, yes, okay, you recommend both.
You definitely recommend.
Speaker 2 (44:13):
This yourself a favor and watch this.
Speaker 1 (44:17):
Yeah, this match, like I mentioned with the previous one,
is pretty obvious, whether you're if you're a new fan,
who the heel is, who the faces this match is.
It has great storytelling and you get a lot of
like ebbs and flows, Like every time you think Kofee
(44:39):
is in control, like in this particular spot, and then
he's taking it to Daniel Brian. You know, Daniel Brian
ends up getting control of it. Whether it's this whether
he's doing those kicks to Kofee while holding his arms,
and the announcers do a great job too and painting
that picture because they're always talking about how Daniel Brian
(45:01):
is a big player. He's a big player. He doesn't
need to be here. I mean Kofe Kingston is a
big player that he doesn't need to be here, you know.
So this was like some good technical wrestling. Everything was,
you know, top notch Brian. Daniel Bryan is doing great
work focusing on Kofe Kingston's leg. You know, he needed
(45:26):
to have some type of advantage to it because Kofee
obviously is very faster, so you want to slow him
down if you're thinking about, you know, the psychology of
this match. So it ends up that you know it
was off or not because Kofee Kingston finds a way
and as the two other times that Daniel Brown and
(45:50):
Daniel Brian avoided trouble in Paradise, the third times the
charm Kofe Kingston hits it and we have a new
WWE SmackDown Champion and kofe Mania is running wild.
Speaker 2 (46:03):
One of the emotional highlights of the night.
Speaker 1 (46:06):
Yeah, and why I recommend that whether you're a new
fan or a season better than myself. If you especially now,
if you're getting back into wrestling, then you've been out
of it for a while, it's different now, like here
we are in twenty twenty five and now Kofi Kingston
(46:27):
is now a heel. So just to see the juxtaposition
of where he was and how he gets there, I
think it like, if you go back and see this,
it makes you more invested because right now, if you're
coming into watching wrestling and you're like, man, Kofee Kingston
is just like a prick right now, you know because
(46:51):
what he did it and it kind of sells you more.
It makes that whole turn that Xavier Woods and Kingston
had on Big e it hits a little bit more
because if you see, like my wife mentioned, the reactions
of Big Eie rooting them on, Xavier Woods is rooting
them on, you would be able to see what Kofi
(47:13):
Kingston is saying, even though it's all the work, it's
all kfe Kofi Kingston's character saying, hey, you were there
for me, thank you, but you got hurt and I
still needed you and you still weren't here for me.
And they had that whole turn where it's like we
(47:34):
needed you. These people came back. In this less amount
of time.
Speaker 2 (47:38):
You had wrestlers in the back watching this, follering.
Speaker 1 (47:40):
Oh yeah, they're really selling you, like this is the
underdog story. This is what we want we you know,
like the everyone was there watching it, whether if you
were the ussos who end up making the thing appearance
near the end of the match when they're showing the
people backstage. It had Nikki kraw, you had Calisto, you
(48:02):
had Sincata or who with all these other wrestlers that
probably just got like a quick WrestleMania payday just for
being shown on TV. But I can't very great match
and I can't recommend like this is one of my
favorite WrestleMania matches to date right now, besides the Daniel
(48:28):
Brian match that when he when we had the yes movement,
when Daniel ended up having to win two matches, And
it's very funny that Daniel Brian is the one to
give someone else their Wrestlemingia moment after he had to
earn his WrestleMania moment with the crowd as well. So
I found that that was very satisfying and with that.
Speaker 2 (48:53):
To match number seven.
Speaker 1 (48:55):
Yeah, and match number seven had these particular highlight.
Speaker 2 (49:00):
United States Championships Samoa Joe versus Ray.
Speaker 1 (49:03):
Mastereo and that match goes for fifty eight seconds. Yeah,
so Samo joke is out here.
Speaker 2 (49:12):
He's six two, y'all. Yeah, and Ray mastereos five six.
Speaker 1 (49:17):
Very generous five six. So this is the highlight of
Ray Mastereo in his awesome Wrestlmingia costume.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
He's a awesome isay. He reminds me who's that character
from the Boys the Deep.
Speaker 1 (49:32):
Yeah, you didn't see that, but he uh, he's missing
this cape and it was purple and it was meant
to be. Uh, he doesn't train the mysterio. Uh, Marvel Billy,
You're never going to see me hate on the Master
of the sixth one nine. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (49:50):
The only hate that I have is that this match
is too short.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
Yeah. Joe comes out and he's dominating Ray, but Ray
gets a little bit of a jump on him and
performed a six one nine. He gets up to do
the frog splash, but Joe ends up cat you know,
puts him in the Cocina clutch and it's over. Now.
I know you mentioned that this match was a little
(50:12):
bit short on here, and I believe it could have
been because Ray Masterio had an ankle injury or kneat injury,
so they really couldn't do much in particular. But I
think Bence should have made like some type of call
and be like, hey, you can't go. They always have
that out that the card is subject to change. So
(50:37):
if the card is always subject to change, no one's
out there expecting Raymond Stereo and some old Joel to
officially be out there. If Ray can't go, just make
the judgment call and be like, you know what, let's
just get this out of here. We'll have a match
when Ray gets hurt, or we can have a segment
where Somemo Joe attacks Ray Stereo in the back, and
(51:01):
that's why the match never happens.
Speaker 2 (51:03):
So this match is short. Obviously, it's not a Ramizard
for me. It's it's so quick. What do you think, Yeah,
skip it.
Speaker 1 (51:11):
You're like, like, we've already talked as much as that
match lasted.
Speaker 2 (51:14):
So we probably talked longer than that match last said.
So that that takes us to match number eight.
Speaker 1 (51:22):
Yeah, and that has the return of Roman in October
twenty eighteen. He had to leave in ring competition because
he was diagnosed with his leukemia, returning back into his system.
Speaker 2 (51:39):
So the big dog faces the Scottish psychopath.
Speaker 1 (51:44):
Yeah, Drew McIntyre, and I believe this is Drew mcantire's
return into the company after being away here. If it's not, Yeah,
he just turns back. He's done his whole thing in
TNA and Evolve and all PWG Pro Wrestling Gorilla like
(52:11):
he's been reforming his character. He's back. He's back as
a Scottish psychopath and Roman Reigns is back and these
guys are still going at it to this day. And
what did you think? I know you are a big
fan of Roman Reigns and you are a fan of
the Scottish psychopaths.
Speaker 2 (52:29):
Growing on me?
Speaker 1 (52:30):
Who's growing on you?
Speaker 2 (52:31):
True? So I will say that I think this match
is worth revisiting for nostalgia as far as Roman re
entering back into wrestling. The match is solid. We get
a good spear from Roman, but it wasn't that exciting
for me. What do you think about it?
Speaker 1 (52:54):
I think this is just like an ab CD. It's
a very simple match. You have Roman Rains coming back,
like if you're a newcomer you won't get lost. There's
no like twisting psychology is a heel easy to face.
What's happening here, You're gonna be able to follow it very,
very easily. But it's like nothing out of the ordinary,
(53:20):
you know, like you have Roman Reigns. He already starts
getting dominated when he comes back by Drew McIntyre, who's
saying that this is his yard now, and it's selling
you that he's Roman Reigns is the underdog. He's been
away too long, He's not gonna come back or is
(53:43):
he going to come back? Because then we start Roman
Reigns getting that comeback. Is the big dog back. He
eventually starts, you know, taking it to Drew on the outside.
We get the Superman punch. Towards the end, we get
a spear and then we get one two three pinn
in when for Roman reign So I think it's just
(54:03):
a good reintroduction for people who have not seen Roman
Reigns right for the past six months, or who may
WrestleMania always gets new people watching.
Speaker 2 (54:13):
Also, he's huge rowenty twenty four. Well, they're both huge, right,
They're both part of that like amazing character, Like they're
larger than life personalities right now at WWE. But what
I do like is that he is being welcome back.
He's being reintroduced to us through a WrestleMania and that's
(54:36):
why I like this WrestleMania thirty five. It's just more
of that good WrestleMania thirty five, good stuff that's going on,
welcome back to and we had a few good bys.
Speaker 1 (54:46):
Okay. As for me, I would say just skip it
because there isn't anything else besides, like we mentioned, it's
like more of a reintroduction. If anything. This just helps
paint that Scottish cycle paths for Drew McIntyre because we
needed like a new coat of paint on him and
(55:08):
he went to go get it. But now Vince needed
to reinforce it that he is a force to be
reckoned with. And that's why we end up getting that
Drew McIntyre title run. A little bit later on in the.
Speaker 2 (55:21):
Season or so years, we're taking to match number nine,
a match so exciting.
Speaker 1 (55:28):
Wait what but you forgot about the Hello. His name
is Elias and he wants to know if you want
to walk with a Lions.
Speaker 2 (55:42):
I hate this.
Speaker 1 (55:44):
So Allians is coming the second year in a row,
trying to give a concert.
Speaker 2 (55:51):
Oh, I forgot about Olias and Johnsena.
Speaker 1 (55:53):
I forgot, but then you had then and then after
a little bit of a trailer about the Cubs and
the and the New York Yankees and someone calling their shot. Yeah,
now I want to know because this guy is from Newbury, Massachusetts. Yes,
John Cena, if you are of someone from Massachusetts and
(56:18):
you're watching this show, first of all, thank you very much,
and don't forget to subscribe, subscribe, But are you upset
as a as a fan of being from Massachusetts? Are
you upset that John Cena is rocking a Yankees jersey
instead of a Boston Red size jersey that you know,
(56:39):
I'm assuming he's a Yankees fan. I have not looked
into it. I just noticed it, and then I never
I should have asked Doyle Doyle Don Doyle from a
friend of the podcast from podcast Hip Wrestley. So eventually
Johnsena goes out there, he throws a couple of bars
out there.
Speaker 2 (56:56):
This is his retirement.
Speaker 1 (56:59):
No, is not his retirement.
Speaker 2 (57:00):
What is this for him?
Speaker 1 (57:01):
This is just him making an appearance something special. No,
it's special because we haven't.
Speaker 2 (57:12):
Wait what is special about this this is not a match.
Speaker 1 (57:16):
Right, No, it's it's just like a yeah.
Speaker 2 (57:24):
Okay, So he's reintroducing his original character.
Speaker 1 (57:30):
The Doctor of Doctor of Life, so.
Speaker 2 (57:35):
We all had to witness this again. But I will
say to his credits, I believe as a child he
talks about getting picked.
Speaker 1 (57:43):
On and then hip hop being his outlet.
Speaker 2 (57:46):
Being his outlet. So I appreciate that. So you do
you boo?
Speaker 1 (57:53):
So he ends up getting the F you, not the
attitude adjustment, the F you and the five knuckle shuffle,
and John Cena is out after he pumps up his REBOTX.
Speaker 2 (58:03):
Like he pumps up his kicks.
Speaker 1 (58:05):
Yeah, so what did you think about this? Do you
recommend everyone to go back and rewatch the Doctor of Dougnomics?
Speaker 2 (58:13):
If you were out there pumping up your kicks, let
us not. I'm very curious to know if you were
out there about to play basketball and you started pumping
up your kicks, does it work? Did that work for you?
Speaker 1 (58:25):
I don't know. I never owned a pair of.
Speaker 2 (58:28):
May I'm so curious. Let us know, yeah and say
skip it. You know, I appreciate John Cena. I'm a
big fan of all forms of sena. But yeah, this
is not it. Also, I do not care for Elias
and his guitar and sitting through him playing for such
(58:52):
a long time. Don't waste my time. Show me the wrestling.
That's my opinion.
Speaker 1 (58:57):
Yeah, and with that, we'll move on to the next
match of the card. Now we'll go ahead and continue
with whatever you had prepared.
Speaker 2 (59:10):
So now we're talking about match nine, right, no hold
barred Triple H versus Batista. You will hear this probably
the first time for me that this is one of
my favorite triple H matches, maybe the second time you've
(59:32):
heard this from me. This is one of my favorite
matches of this WrestleMania thirty five. I will say you
should revisit it. I like Hunter's introduction to this. I
like even more that Hunter and Bautista's images. We're on
(59:52):
the Empire State Building. If you're from New York and
you hated it, let us know drop a comment. But
I think it's I kind of like you know you've
arrived when you see yourself hundreds and hundreds of feet
or maybe you've not arrived because they've shown some other
people and that's so great, like being displayed in buildings.
(01:00:14):
But anyway, for the purpose of this podcast. I think
it's it's pretty awesome that they were in the Empire
State Building. You're going to WrestleMania thirty five, you're walking
around the city. How cool is it for you to
see that. I know that when we were at WrestleMania
forty in Philadelphia and we saw the WrestleMania flags here there,
(01:00:38):
everywhere and on buildings, that was pretty cool. We stopped
to take pictures. It felt pretty great. It's like the
city's welcoming you, and I thought it was a good
look for WWE. What do you think. I didn't even
get into the match.
Speaker 1 (01:00:54):
Yeah, I think list this match is. I didn't like
that it's a no holds barred match. I understand why
it's a no holds bard match because Hunter is putting
his career on the line. You know, he's if he
loses this match to Bautista, he has to retire.
Speaker 2 (01:01:13):
So but this is a retirement match for Batista, right right?
Speaker 1 (01:01:16):
And this is what I don't understand, and I don't
get even to this day, this whole promo leading up
to this event. Batista comes back, he beats up nature
Boy because it's the sixtieth birthday and he's like, hey,
happy birthday, I'm gonna beat you up. But you know,
Batisa comes back and all he's telling Hunter is give
(01:01:38):
me what I want, give me what I want, okay,
And then he so he wanted this match. He wanted
his last match, that's all he wanted. Okay, Like this,
like it doesn't make any sense to me even to
this day. I watched this, I watched the promos, I
(01:02:00):
watched the match again, and like, it doesn't sell it
to me.
Speaker 2 (01:02:05):
Wrestling like multi versus don't.
Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
Always make sense exactly, and I'm okay with that, and
that's probably why it appeals more to you, Like for
me as a longtime fan, like something was missing here,
like as far as the work that goes in here,
Like the match started with some brawling. Triple H pulls
out Batista's nose, ring, they both use weapons, there's a
(01:02:32):
chain that Bautista ends up using in between, like for
some reason, there's a chain underneath the ring. Let me
see if I can pull up this picture. I don't
have it. Then Triple H gets it and like starts
beating up.
Speaker 2 (01:02:49):
Saying that this was off the chain, and then we.
Speaker 1 (01:02:53):
Had that one shot of Bautista be choked by the chain,
but Batista's trying to still hold the chain because like,
I had to be choked by this.
Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
Like, the only thing that's offensive to me is Batita
Bautista's little his little son.
Speaker 1 (01:03:08):
That no, that tattoo has advanced. If you're talking about
the one who is around his early button. It was
a little son and now it has like wings or
something like that.
Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
I can do. But yeah, so the only thing that
is offensive about this match is a tiny tattoo. Otherwise,
if I am me find Bautista and I am retiring,
I would love to have a Flair b Flair as
(01:03:41):
part of my going away, which he didn't do a lot.
You know, he didn't do that much in it. It
was just he was kind of just.
Speaker 1 (01:03:49):
Like there, just shows up at the end Sledgehammer because
he lost to the other Sledgehammer.
Speaker 2 (01:03:56):
He's the dirtiest player in the game. So we can
expect nothing from Ric Flair during this match. But if
I'm Batista and I'm going out, I'm going to wrestle
against one of the longest time wrestlers, which is Hunter.
How long has Hunter been wrestling at this point.
Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
I think for nineteen or twenty years.
Speaker 2 (01:04:19):
Nineteen and twenty years. He's part of the McMahon family.
Speaker 1 (01:04:24):
I'm he married into the mcfans.
Speaker 2 (01:04:26):
Well, yes, but he's part of the family. So I
think it's a good it's a good look, it's a
good move. I'm satisfied with this match as American training.
The wrestling was good to me. I was a little exciting,
and it just made part of this Wrestlmania thirty five,
like I said, overall, pretty pretty interesting, so I'd say revisit.
Speaker 1 (01:04:49):
Okay, So I was wrong with the man. He had
been wrestling since nineteen ninety two, so he'd been wrestling
for twenty seven years. But yeah, for me, like this
match unfortunately, like all the other Hunter matches, suffers of
just being too long. I understand that you have to
(01:05:10):
do the build up and you have to have the flow.
Like this match starts off with Hunter being dominated by
Bautista like I showed and BAA, and Hunter is finding
for Rick Clair's honor and his honor because he doesn't
want to retire. But its just it just doesn't like
it just starts falling off after like Bautista gets his
(01:05:33):
nose ring pulled off. I think, yeah, and which I
am still not certain that it was an actual real
and had a clip on, so no judgment. And then
the other thing this suffered from is like we all
kind of knew that this was Batista Bautista's last match,
so we're not going to be.
Speaker 2 (01:05:54):
Like Batista Guardians of the Galaxy. Yeah, another random movie.
Speaker 1 (01:05:58):
And then the one movie they're promoting during this wrestling
a Stupor with Comel Nan Johnny.
Speaker 2 (01:06:03):
Which we have not watched. Watch, we have watched, we watched.
Speaker 1 (01:06:08):
I think you might have fallen asleep on. It was
an Amazon exclusive at the time, on Amazon Prime Exclusive.
But he's the Guardians of the Galaxy because of vipping
of rumored throughout the internet wrestling community that this was
Bautista's last match. Now you lose that whole gimmick of
(01:06:32):
who's gonna you know, if Hunter loses, he's gonna retire. Well,
he's not gonna lose, you know, if you I don't
see it, and I might have mistaked if you know
anything else about it, because I don't see that there's
a stipulation if Bautista won. But if they had a stipulation,
like if Bautista wins, he's now the authority of the
(01:06:53):
w W you know how him and Stephanie are the authority.
That would have been something like have a stipulation for him.
I did not see a stipulation. If you're watching this,
and thank you very much, don't forget to subscribe, but
also drop a comment if you knew that Bautista had
a stipulation, because I think if they would have added
(01:07:13):
something to this where if Batista wins, he's now the
raw general manager or now he's the authority.
Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
Okay, so you want to like this match, I have
been wrapped up. I'm fine with the match as is
because I'm taking it for face value. Yeah, and that's
just his last match. It's with Hunter. He's been wrestling
for over twenty seven years, over twenty years with WWE.
(01:07:40):
He is one of the faces of the company. You
have a flare as part of your exit. What a
way to go out for Batista? For Bautista. Yeah, so
not like that Undertaker match. We're Undertaker loss. Yes, I'm
still talking about this like three to four WrestleMania, Yeah,
(01:08:00):
WrestleMania at thirty where he lost to Rock Lesner.
Speaker 1 (01:08:08):
So it's for you. You are recommending this match for
new and seasoned veterans.
Speaker 2 (01:08:14):
Yes, at the Undertaker match with Rock Lesner, I do
not recommend. It was very disappointing to me in the crowd,
so I'll watch that shit, Okay, Okay, sorry, it's.
Speaker 1 (01:08:25):
Okay, I go for me. I do not recommend this match.
I don't recommend any of the because there's like three
other matches at this point in time. Hunter had been
like had a losing streak again, but Batista he had
not beaten them. But none of those matches are good either.
But watch it if you want to see, like my
(01:08:51):
wife mentioned, a good retirement match, but this is in
a classic. This goes on for way too long. It's
not a banger for you, No, and it feels a
little bit slow at times. And that's about it.
Speaker 2 (01:09:09):
So damn yeah fun Okay. So with that, that takes
us to this.
Speaker 1 (01:09:14):
Takes us to the next match, which is.
Speaker 2 (01:09:19):
Not an acute angle, a Kurt angle.
Speaker 1 (01:09:23):
Yeah, back to back retirement matches Kurt angle versus Baron Corbin.
Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
So it is Kurt angle wrestling before this on the study, No,
he was not.
Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
He had just done Remembering thirty four with Ronda Rousey,
so we had that match, but this one was Baron
Corbin going out there and challenging Kurt Angle for this
particular match. So this match goes for You have to
(01:09:59):
tell me why six minutes and five seconds.
Speaker 2 (01:10:02):
Why is Kurt Angle's farewell match against Baron Corbyn.
Speaker 1 (01:10:05):
That's where I'm gonna get it.
Speaker 2 (01:10:07):
Explain this to me.
Speaker 1 (01:10:09):
With this particular match. They had been doing this episode
where Kurt Angle was gearing uppers farewell match. He was
having these matches with people that he liked. There was
one with Ray Mystereo. And then for some reason, we
(01:10:32):
had Baron Corbin chosen in the March episode because it
was Angles like was gunning to get some type of
retribution because he had been causing him as as he
(01:10:54):
had been causing him too many trouble, too much trouble,
and when Kurt Angle was robbed the Raw general manager
and to the point where Baron Corbyn had taken his
job quote unquote, So Baron Corman was the Raw general
manager at one point. So it's just Vince believed that
Baron Corbyn had a look at that point in time
(01:11:15):
and then he needed a push and this is what
we got.
Speaker 2 (01:11:19):
Sorry, sir, you were not the one. So okay, I
have my opinions about this match. What do you think
about this match?
Speaker 1 (01:11:29):
But this one, I am not going to recommend this
match because I know it's part of the business to
go out on your back to get the other guy
over if you're someone of Kurt Angle's stature, if you're
(01:11:50):
someone of Rick Flair stature Sting, even though Sting is
the exception because Sting when he did his retirement match
at AEW, he actually won. He won the tag team
titles and then they had a tournament for him, and
that's one of the few times I think that, you know,
if you're someone like a Sting, which I feel Kurd
(01:12:11):
Angle is, and maybe not ric Claire because Riclaire is
a heel, and that kind of makes more sense that
he should lose, right. Kurt Angle does slip back and forth,
but at this point he's a babyface. Baron Corbin's the heel,
So I feel like Kurt Angle should have won and
still had this little retirement speech that he has at
(01:12:32):
the end. You know, Kurt Angle does what Kurt Angle
does best in these particular matches. He does his over
the head belly's A belly souplex is real good. He
does his Angle lout very well, and I don't like
the ending. It seemed like it was very predictable audience well,
(01:12:54):
I mean like and particularly the way like Kurt Angle
does the Olympic Slam, and early in his career he
stopped it when he got older and went into TNA
and things like that. He used to do Moon Salt,
but he would always miss it. Okay, So for him
(01:13:15):
to be wrestling for twenty plus years, like, it doesn't
make sense for him to do the Olympic Slam, not
go for a cover and then try to do his
Moon Salt, which ends up being his demise. Baron Corbin
hits him with his finisher at the end of Days
and that's how he ends up losing.
Speaker 2 (01:13:32):
All Right, Baron Corbin, I'm assuming this is his normal
wrestling gear.
Speaker 1 (01:13:37):
It's his normal wrestling gear because he's the I don't
think he still is, but he was the raw general
manager before. He would come out looking like a biker
and he had long hair and he was the lone wolf.
Speaker 2 (01:13:49):
Yeah. I do not like this match. I celebrate her Angle.
He's an amazing wrestler. He is one of my favorite wrestlers,
and we have the opportunity to meet him in twenty
twenty four, which was really really nice. He's very nice.
But this match was the worst for me as an
(01:14:11):
exit and a goodbye to Kurt Angle. I think he
deserved more. I get the whole passing it on to
another generation, you know, I get that, but Baron Corbin
was not the personality for me. This was like ending
The Godfather with like a fart joke. You know. Kurt
(01:14:34):
did his best, and Corbin winning felt like, I don't know,
kind of like a slap in the face. So when
I saw the audience, the audience of course was crying.
I was, you know, emotional. This is Kurt's final wrestling match,
and to go out like that, it was a lot.
I was like, it was kind of unfortunate. But this
(01:14:56):
is the only thing I do not like about this
WrestleMania thirty five. I don't like a few other things.
But when I say this, he should have had somebody else.
Speaker 1 (01:15:11):
On, like someone else to face his opponent should have
been someone else.
Speaker 2 (01:15:16):
It should have been somebody else. Now of his caliber
of wrestling.
Speaker 1 (01:15:20):
Well here's the thing I'm going to be And of
his height.
Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
Too, because the other guy was six ' eight and
he's six zero, so I think they should have had
somebody around similar heights because it seemed like the wrestling
was a little odd in that way as well. That
other guy is all legs and arms.
Speaker 1 (01:15:37):
All right, So the rumor had been that people would
want to see John Cena versus secured angle? Okay, would
you have been excited for that?
Speaker 2 (01:15:45):
I think that would have been an odd mashup as well.
Speaker 1 (01:15:49):
Right of this, of the people on the WrestleMania card
that we have here, you know what they look back,
we had brock Lesser and Seth Rollins. Would you have
preferred a retirement match with Rollins or Lesner.
Speaker 2 (01:16:06):
With him with Rolins or Leslie?
Speaker 1 (01:16:08):
Yeah, angle with Rollins or Lesner.
Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
No, I actually would say that he'd be on par
with like Daniel Bryan.
Speaker 1 (01:16:16):
Ooh, that's a good one.
Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
So you know, and again I love that Koffee match. Great,
you know, but I think that would have been a
good match up for his retirement match.
Speaker 1 (01:16:30):
Okay, yeah, I think the only other one that I
probably would have taken from here if they would have
to have a retirement match, and I think unfortunately because
of Batista wanting his retirement match, then I would have
wanted Hunter, okay, And the reason why I would have
wanted Hunter to have that match is because it would
(01:16:51):
have it would have continued the story from Wresselming yet
thirty four. Thank you. So with that we move on. Yeah,
and that was the what if we can go portion.
Speaker 2 (01:17:08):
Of this podcast podcast.
Speaker 1 (01:17:10):
So with this we move on to the Finn Balor
the Demon Form versus Bobby Lashley and Leo Rush. And
this match it goes for nothing. Okay, you had that
ready four minutes and seconds, so four minutes and seven
(01:17:37):
seconds for the Intercontinental Championship photos. Go on, Well, I
will refresh your memory because I remember you being very
upset at this matchup because we had Finn Balor and
we had Finn Balor coming out with this demon Form
(01:17:59):
which supposed to be more of an aggressive and dominant
version of himself.
Speaker 2 (01:18:05):
First of all, Bobby Lashley one of my favorite ladder
matched participants. The man can wrestle.
Speaker 1 (01:18:13):
Okay, go ahead, Oh I think you had more. That's
all I got, right, So yeah, Bobby Lashley, he's not
an okay talker, and that's why he's paired up with
Leo Rush, who was a very good talker. So It's
very interesting that we had these two paired up together.
And Leo Rush is also a very great acrobatic and
(01:18:36):
technical wrestler wrestler as well on his own right. But
I like, I love the pairing when it first came around,
you know. So we had Bobby Lashley trying to start
off hot here and hitting them with the clothesline. Here,
we have him doing the souplex to him, but a
Balor eventually ends up excuse me, is the one that
(01:19:00):
starts up aggressively and he sends out Lashley out of
the ring, and then Lashley ends up getting control after
the hot start from him. H Ballor doing his pat
name marquee moves. We get his double drop kick, we
get a sling blade, he does a power bomb on him,
(01:19:21):
which was kind of like, oh okay, moment, like not
only does Finn Balor have the quickness, but he has
a little bit of power to him. Eventually, Ballor ends
up hitting his coup de grass, which is the double
stomp and the Demon. Finn Ballor ends up defeating Bobby
(01:19:44):
Lashley and is the new Intercontinental Champion. Was that a
good refresher for you or was.
Speaker 2 (01:19:51):
A really good refresher, So thank you for that. I
don't I don't like this match. Well, I'm a fan
of Bobby Lashley. I here should have won.
Speaker 1 (01:20:02):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (01:20:03):
That's it, okay, sorry Ben?
Speaker 1 (01:20:05):
All Right, So this match didn't have enough time to
build for me, and which is why I'm not recommending it.
Like I just told you, this match is four minutes long,
and this is supposed to be for like the mid
Card Championship, one of the mid cards, because do you
have the United States Championship as another one which also
(01:20:27):
got like a very short run of a title run
too like match, So with that, don't recommend it. I
feel like this did not help Bobby Lashley at all
because eventually he starts like a little bit of a
decline and doesn't really come into the forte of anything
(01:20:47):
else meaningful until maybe twenty twenty, twenty twenty one.
Speaker 2 (01:20:53):
Okay, so skip it, and it's a pass for me.
So that will take you too. One of the best
matches in my opinion.
Speaker 1 (01:21:04):
Of the night, which match is that this match.
Speaker 2 (01:21:08):
Is the main events winner takes all Ronda Rousey versus
Charlotte Flair versus Becky the Man Lynch.
Speaker 1 (01:21:19):
All right, and that match goes for twenty minutes and
thirty seconds.
Speaker 2 (01:21:26):
So what did you think about this match? I know
what I think. I enjoyed it about all the women.
All the ladies of this match looked great. Their wrestling
gear was awesome. I enjoyed Charlotte Flair's intro where she
comes out in a helicopter. She went from wearing a
leather jacket to her robe flare robe. I'm a fan
(01:21:49):
of a Flair, so she's a strong lady. I enjoy
seeing all these ladies wrestle.
Speaker 1 (01:21:56):
All right. For me, like this match, you kind of
had two heels and of one face, the two heels
being Ronda, which Ronda is very vocal in this match.
There's a lot of b t h is being thrown around,
and you know, Charlotte Flair just does it in the
(01:22:17):
ring like match psychology wise. And Becky when twenty eighteen,
she was wronged by Charlotte Flair when Charlotte beat her
for the Women's SmackDown Championship and she's getting trying to
get her belt back. That's always been the chase there.
(01:22:37):
But we also have Becky Lynch was in the Royal
Rumble of the twenty nineteen earlier that year, and she
ended up winning, So Becky Lynch ended up choosing her
and ended up ended up throwing down Charlotte in there too.
(01:22:58):
So this match started with a between Lynch and Rowsey
and then Rowsey ends up getting both opponents out of
the ring, and then we get these women pushing it
to the limit, showing why they should be part, why
they deserve to be not only part of WrestleMania, but
the main event of WrestleMania, and they did not disappoint
(01:23:20):
with spots like this Rondo Rousey ends up taking a
lot of bumps and bruises and it shows and one
of her calves later that night. Charlotte Flair also ends
up getting some color which they call them, which is
a term when they cut themselves, and there's blood spewing
out of her forearm or her elbow later on that match.
(01:23:43):
But there's a lot of fun spots here. There's a
point where Charlotte hits her double natural selection, which kind
of like where Charlotte flips and like takes the psycho
front facing DDT type of thing. Like this little combination
here where Charlotte has Ronda in like a Boston crab
(01:24:07):
and Becky just comes out of nowhere and hits her
with that bulldog we have. I want to point this
out because Ronda, when she's climbing up these top ropes
to do this splash, looks scared as if when she's
about to dismount on here and if she eventually got
over it and pulled it off. But there's a lot
(01:24:28):
of there's a lot of spots here. You see, these
women are taking chances, and eventually Becky ends up beating
both of them here by counting, by countering Ronda rouses
and swinging miss and penning her for the one two
(01:24:49):
three victory and Becky two belts is born. So you
recommend people go back and match babe, you I do.
Speaker 2 (01:25:03):
I thought it was sometimes with the wrestle Media main event,
you have a little sigh at the end because you've
been watching wrestling for this many hours and then the
main event isn't always a banger, isn't the one, and
you're just kind of like, all right, time to go home.
But this one, I feel like the audience got picked
up and everyone enjoyed this match. I did, and it
(01:25:27):
was really good. I'd say watch it. Do yourself. A favor.
Everyone looks great. Everyone can go in this match. Ronda, Yeah,
you can see from that last Wrestle media where she
was a little tough and a little ross. I mean
she she was an mm A fighter, so I get it.
(01:25:48):
But when it comes to wrestling, you really got to
protect yourself, so you make sure that you're able to
have that longevity and keep on taking those hits and thumps.
So she was a little bit more polished with her
wrestling this time around, and I definitely recommend that you watch.
Speaker 1 (01:26:03):
This match that I got all right, Yeah, for me,
this was a very uh good storytelling match. It was
a good pace. The only thing that I feel that
people might be looking at if you're watching this back
again is that Ronda's shoulders aren't really down all the way,
(01:26:25):
so it like she had she actually had it. And
maybe this match was supposed to go a little bit longer,
but they were how it finished where it finished, out
of nowhere. I think did a great job because it
didn't end with like Becky Lynch doing her her one
of her finishers, whether it's the the submission move disarm
(01:26:48):
her or whether it's her I forget what it is
like a like a rock Bottom, but she calls it
something else, so it didn't end like that. It would
just pop all of a sudden, which is a good
thing when it comes to a triple threat match. Not
(01:27:08):
everything has to end with the finisher, and if it
doesn't with the finisher, sometimes it's a little bit obvious
when you get something like a roll up or something
simple her disarm her. That is there summation move. But yeah,
(01:27:29):
when it ends, when when it ends out of nowhere
where you don't expect it, that's when sometimes magic happens
because you get a very authentic reception to that finish
from the crowd, and as we got to see, there
was lots of people who were happy that this match
was not only over because it's already past midnight local time,
(01:27:51):
but that it was Beggy Lynch that ended up winning.
It culminated two storylines, goal gets two gold get accomplished
in one particular match. So it's worth rewatching whether you're
season fan, like a long time veteran, long time fan
like myself, or a newcomer because it has very great,
(01:28:12):
significant historic significance, the first woman's Wrestlemingia main event. It
has very strong storytelling even though there's like I mentioned,
two heels and one face, and to finish, even though
it's a little bit controversial for some people, it was
very simple and clean. And this is something that I
(01:28:35):
absolutely recommend that people rewatch, whether you're newer a fan
or a long time that because it gives you a
great introduction to women who are still wrestling. If you're
a newer fan, which is Charlotte Flair, who's going to
be making her return at the Royal Rumble, and to
(01:28:57):
back you lunch if she decides to come back and
be a surprise entrance to the twenty twenty five Royal.
Speaker 2 (01:29:05):
So wrapping up WrestleMania thirty five opinions.
Speaker 1 (01:29:09):
Comments, I think overall this wasn't okay WrestleMania. This had
two retirement matches, and this had two no holds bar
contown you know, gimmick matches is what we call them
sometimes is and then you had like two four way matches.
(01:29:31):
So obviously Vince Knowlcy has a talent to showcase, but
he hasn't found the right way to balance it. And
maybe that's why we end up from this point forward.
I hate to break it to you, but now we
start getting WrestleManias that are two days.
Speaker 2 (01:29:48):
Yeah, it told me. I've been warned, so we participated.
Speaker 1 (01:29:54):
Participated in but now we're getting there and nowh we
still get a couple of them, but we won't get
as many four ways, three ways and things like that.
So other than that, like this is a WrestleMania where
you could just watch a few of the matches, and
(01:30:16):
one of the matches I recommended for sure you want
to watch the main event, the women's three way when
it takes all and kofee Mania if you have time,
if you want to do something with it.
Speaker 2 (01:30:31):
In the audience for this WrestleMania, do we see Fluffy?
Speaker 1 (01:30:34):
No, Fluffy was Saturday Night's main event that we saw
last night.
Speaker 2 (01:30:38):
But did we see the Rocks Mother?
Speaker 1 (01:30:40):
As Ata was in the audience like a negative, but
she was on one of the turmbucle sides. She wasn't
behind the announcers how sometimes she is. But the Rocks
Mom was in attendance. She was probably in attendance to
see Tamina and Naya Jax wrestle.
Speaker 2 (01:30:56):
Yeah. So WrestleMania thirty five, I wrap up, as that
gave me all the feels, Like you said, we had
two people retiring Batista and Kurt Engle. We had Coffey's
triumph from KOFEE Media and the fans loved it. Shane
McMahon's ongoing past break every bone in his body, whether
(01:31:17):
it's like a coast to coast or he's flying off
of something super high. That was long, it was messy,
It had enough memorable moments to make it where it's
staying up past your bedtime. And I recommend it. Maybe,
you know, I'd like to say, let's keep it under
twelve hours, but like you said, now, this is a
two day event.
Speaker 1 (01:31:36):
So yeah, so you just do you recommend people to
watch the whole event, or you recommend it.
Speaker 2 (01:31:43):
If you have the time, watches WrestleMania thirty five. Otherwise,
just watched a few that we shouted out that are
really worth watching. If you have limited time or you're
on your lunch, do a skip to the good stuff.
And that's that's it.
Speaker 1 (01:31:59):
Thank you very much, Thanks for joining us. If you
watch and you made it this far, thank you again
for joining us in this WrestleMania thirty five revisit. We
are going to be working on doing a WrestleMania thirty
six revisit. But we have no fixed date, but it
will be happening in February, whether it happens February the
(01:32:23):
twenty second, or I think February twenty second might be
the date. Okay, February twenty second, put it in your
calendar if not the twenty third, but we hope to
get that out to you soon. If you have any tidbits,
any information, any memories, anything you want to share about
this WrestleMania event, or if you have any recommendations of
(01:32:47):

email to Revisiting Mania at gmail dot com. If you
want to connect with us on social media times we

Night's Made event when we are not busy being parents.
So that find us all at Revisiting Mania, whether it's
Blue Sky, Instagram, Facebook, and that other one that someone
else owns that we try not to say and threads.
Speaker 2 (01:33:28):
And in a world where it's easy to be my mean,
