Speaker 1 (00:35):
Welcome back to Rogue Darkness, the podcast that uncovers how
the misinterpretations and misinformation surrounding witchcraft, the occult, and other
beliefs have led many to do unthinkable crimes. From ritualistic
killings and the demons that live in all of us,
to exploration of the macabre and delving deep into the unknown,

(00:56):
Let's explore the darkness of mankind one crime at a time.
I'm your host of the grim and Gruesome Raven. Today
we unravel the twisted tale of Chrisman Jennipertinga, a sixteenth
century German serial killer whose heinous crimes have echoed through

(01:18):
the records of history.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
One thing remains certain. The story of Jenny Pertinga takes
us down to the depths of human depravity. As we
sift through the scant historical records and sensationalized accounts, one
source stands out as the earliest and perhaps most reliable
account of Genny Pertinga's reign of terror, a fifteen eighty

(01:41):
one pamphlet by Casper Herber entitled Terrible New Tidings of
a Murderer Chrisman Gannant. It is from this pamphlet that
we draw the threads of our grim narrative, weaving together
the tale of a man whose name would become synonymous
with evil. Born in the town of ker just two
miles from Cologne, Germany, Chrisman Jennipertanga's early life remained shrouded

(02:06):
in mystery. What drove him to become one of the
most notorious killers of his time. Was he a product
of a cruel and unforgiving world? Or was there a
darkness within him from the very start? These are questions
that may never be answered, but one thing is clear.
By the time Guinea Pertanga reached adulthood, he had already

(02:29):
embarked on a path of violence and depravity. In fifteen
sixty nine, Guinea Pertanga established his base of operations in
a cave complex just a mile from the town of
berg Kessel. He discovered this cave hidden in the rugged
mountains outside the town, with a strategic location that provided

(02:50):
an excellent vantage point over a well traveled road. Below.
The road, a vital trade route for merchants and travelers,
saw frequent foot traffic. Yet the cave's entrance was so
well concealed that few could have imagined such a dangerous
predator lurked nearby. Its remoteness made it an ideal spot

(03:10):
for Guinea Pertanga to ambush unsuspecting passers by while remaining
hidden from local authorities. The cave system itself was vast
and intricate, with multiple interconnected tunnels that stretched deep into
the mountain side. The labyrinthine nature of the cave allowed
Guinea Pertinga to move in and out undetected, and it

(03:33):
also provided him with the perfect layout to carry out
his grisly operations in secrecy. Accounts suggests the interior was
no ordinary hideout. It was cleverly constructed to resemble a home,
complete with cellars, rooms, and chambers. This made it not
only a place of refuge, but also a site of

(03:54):
unimaginable horror. From this layer Guinney Pertinga would launch his
attacks on undat suspecting travelers, praying upon those who dared
to venture through the area alone or in small groups.
For the next twelve years, the cave became the epicenter
of Guiney Pertinga's bloodthirsty reign. His secluded position allowed him

(04:16):
to observe his victims from a distance, choosing the opportune
moment to strike. He would lie in wait, watching for
smaller vulnerable parties to approach, lone merchants, wandering pedlars, and
the occasional family. His extensive knowledge of the cave system
also provided an easy escape route if a victim managed

(04:38):
to put up too much of a fight, or if
larger groups happened to pass through the area. For twelve years,
Guiney Pertinga terrorized the region, his reputation growing with each
passing year. It is said that only those traveling in
parties of five or more could be assured of their safety.

(04:59):
Such was the fear that Jennipertinga instilled in the hearts
of the locals. But even those larger groups couldn't always
avoid his wrath. Jinnipertinga had developed a reputation as a
ruthless and cunning predator, and stories of his deadly ambushes
began to circulate, further deepening the terror he inspired. As

(05:22):
the body count rose, the cave itself became a macabre
legend among the townspeople, a place spoken of only in
hushed tones, where the unlucky met their end, never to
be seen again. While Guinea Pertinga was undoubtedly a formidable foe,
he did not always work alone. At times, he would

(05:45):
recruit other outlaws to aid him in his crimes, forming
temporary alliances to increase his chances of success. However, these
partnerships were short lived or Guinea Pertinga's greed knew no bounds.
According to legend, no man lasted more than five hours
in Jenny Pertinga's gang. Once the loot had been brought

(06:08):
back to the cave, Jennypertinga would serve his accomplices poisoned ale,
ensuring that he would not have to share his ill
gotten gains. The bodies of these unfortunate men would then
be disposed of down a mine shaft connected to the
cave network, their fates sealed by their misplaced trust in
a monster. In fifteen seventy four, Jennipertinga's crimes took an

(06:33):
even darker turn. During a raid, he ambushed a young
woman named Dorothea, who was on her way to live
with her family. Rather than killing her outright, Jinnypertinga was
overcome with lust and decided to take her as his captive.
For seven long years, Dorothea was held as Jennipertanga's sex lay,

(06:57):
forced to endure unspeakable horrors at the hands of her captor.
Bound by an oath extracted under threat of death, she
was chained by the ankle whenever Guinea Pertanga left the cave,
ensuring that she could not escape or night marish existence.
During her captivity, Dorothea bore Guennipertanga six children, but any

(07:18):
hope of a normal family life was shattered by the
cruel reality of her situation. Each time a child was born,
Guiney Pertinga would mercilessly snuff out their young lives, pressing
in their necks until they breathe no more. In a
final act of depraved cruelty, he would then hang their
tiny corpses from a nearby tree, their lifeless forms swaying

(07:42):
in the breeze. When the wind caused the bodies to move,
Guinea Pertinga would cry out in a twisted parody of
fatherly pride, exclaiming, dance, dear little children, dance, Jennipertinga, your
father is making the dance for you. These chilling words
preserve in the historical record serve as a stark reminder

(08:03):
of the depths of Guinea Pertinga's madness. In May of
fifteen eighty one, after seven long years of unimaginable suffering,
Dorothea finally saw glimmer of hope. Guinea Pertinga, perhaps growing
complacent in his control over his captive, agreed to allow
her to visit her relatives in Treer, on the condition

(08:25):
that she renew her oath of silence. Dorothea, seizing this
rare opportunity, made her way to Trier, her heart heavy
with the weight of her experiences. As she walked through
the streets, she saw children playing, their laughter and innocence,

(08:45):
a stark contrast to the horror she had endured. Overwhelmed
with grief and despair, she fell to her knees, lamenting
her lost years and the murders of her children. Passers by,
moved by her display of anguish asked what troubled her,
but Dorothea, still bound by her oath, refused to reveal

(09:08):
her secret. Eventually, she was brought before the mayor and
the priests, who assured her that God would not punish
her for breaking a vow made under duress. With their encouragement,
Dorothea finally told her story, setting in motion the events
that would lead to Genipertinga's downfall. Not wanting to risk

(09:30):
alerting Jennipertinga to their plans, the authorities allowed Dorothea to
return to the cave alone, armed only with a bag
of dried peas to mark her trail. On May twenty seventh,
a group of thirty soldiers followed the peas to Jennipertingda's lair,
where they found the killer. In a moment of vulnerability, Dorothea,

(09:53):
in a final act of defiance against her captor, had
lulled Gennipertinga to sleep while removing Lie's from his hair,
leaving him unprepared for the impending raid. As the soldiers
stormed the cave, Jennipertanga awoke, realizing the depth of Dorothea's betrayal.
In a rage, he cried out that he wished he

(10:15):
had strangled her when he had the chance, but it
was too late. His reign of terror was at an end.
As the soldiers searched Gennipertinga's lair, they uncovered a trove
of stolen goods, showing the extent of his criminal enterprise.
But perhaps the most damning piece of evidence was a

(10:35):
diary in which Gennipertinga had meticulously recorded the details of
his crimes. The pages revealed a staggering nine hundred sixty
four murders, a number that shocked even the most hardened
of investigators. Jennipertinga, when confronted with the evidence against him,

(10:55):
showed no remorse. Instead, he freely admitted to his crimes,
lamenting only that he had fallen short of his goal
of one thousand victims. The enormity of his evil left
no room for mercy, and he was swiftly condemned to death.
On June seventeen, fifteen eighty one, in the town of

(11:18):
barncastel Quis, Crisman Guineipertinga faced his final reckoning in a
gruesome spectacle that would become the stuff of legend. He
was broken on the wheel, his body shattered over the
course of nine agonizing days. In a twisted act of cruelty,
his tormentors spun the wheel slowly to prolong his suffering,

(11:42):
ensuring that he would feel every moment of his slow
and painful demise. As he drew his last breaths, Guinei
Pertina cried out that he was innocent and was being murdered,
a final, futile attempt to paint himself as the victim.
But there could be no doubt in the minds of
those who witnessed his execution that justice had been served

(12:04):
and that the world was a safer place without Christman
Jenny Pertinga in it. But Jenny Pertina's death didn't extinguish
the legend. Instead, it amplified it. For decades following his execution,
his story spread far and wide, inspiring everything from folk
tales to cautionary warnings for travelers. He became the embodiment

(12:27):
of evil for many who lived in the Rhineland, a
symbol of what horrors lay in the dark corners of
the world. Parents would tell their children of the killer
of Kerpin, warning them not to wander far from home
lest they fall victim to someone just like him. Historians
today are torn between fact and fiction when it comes

(12:50):
to Jenniepertinga's story. How much of the tale is real?
Were the nine hundred and sixty four murders and exaggeration,
or did he they truly come close to his monstrous
goal of killing one thousand people. Some scholars argue that
the fifteen eighty one pamphlet by Casper Herber, while offering
one of the most detailed accounts of the killer, was

(13:12):
also designed to sensationalize and sell copies. The story of
Chrisman Jennypertaninga is a dark demonstration of the cruelty that
humanity is capable of. His crimes, preserved in the pages
of history, continue to fascinate and horrify us centuries later,
revealing the enduring power of his dark legend. As we

(13:37):
come to a close on the story of Chrisman Jennypertinga,
let's focus on remembering his many victims, both known and unknown,
whose lives were cut short by his cruelty. May their
memories serve as a reminder of the precious fragility of life,
and may we all strive to create a world where
monsters like him can no longer prey upon the Innocent.
