Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh not, Dante cong Well, no, I don't want you
to lose your nickname that you spend so much time creating.
Obviously fair enough. So today, Oh, if you didn't know
what we do on the show, we talk about one
series or subject matter per episode. We have some trivia.
(00:21):
Dante's not been doing very well in the trivia this
time around. Hopefully he does better on this one. Today
we're talking about the one and only Kingdom Hearts franchise.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Yes, I don't feel too confident about this trivia.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
I have like fifteen pages of content though.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Yeah, there's a big pool.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
The content is ridiculous, so.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Most me somewhat don't gonna go out with a bang. Huh.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Well, no, I think you'll do fine. So let's just
get on with the trivia, because that's but my favorite
part of the show is at least when I'm giving it.
I'm not as happy obviously when I'm in the hot seats.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
But this is all right.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Kingdom Hearts Trivia Liquid Gamer Podcast Dante Kong going for
his higher score than a half point. What's your top score? Six?
Seventh question one. Catherine Beaumont, the original voice of Alice
(01:33):
and Alice in Wonderland and Wendy and Peter Pan reprised
her role as Alice and Wendy in Kingdom Hearts at
the age of I will give you kind of an
over under if you're within a year.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
My first My first thought is like forty seven.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Forty seven is your first thought. I will give you
three more guesses. I'll say higher, sixty two, I will
say higher.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Wow, this is your last guest. This is my last guest.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Seventy nine correct answers sixty four. I said I'd give
you a year, he said, sixty two. If you would
have said sixty three, I would have gave it to you.
But I will impress it. Actually sixty four. Very impressed
and she could do the same voice she did when
she was much younger. Yes, number two the Ultimo Weapon
(02:24):
from Kingdom Hearts two needed how many over rich chop
come plus is that?
Speaker 3 (02:30):
I say, yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
To created? How many to created?
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Repeat that first part again.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Okay, the Ultimal Weapon ultimate Kingdom Hearts two means how many?
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Okay, I was thinking the first one. Definitely don't know
in the second one, but I'm just gonna say sixteen.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
I'm sorry, it's thirteen. Thirteen is actually a common theme
in Kingdom Hearts.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
You're right, it is wow, the.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Letters and Kingdom Hearts, the amount of worlds and Kingdom
Hearts two thirteen thirteen thirteen, So I mean there's a
lot going on going on. That's thirteen related. Number three. Oh,
first two, Yes, what actor voiced the Emperor of the
Land of Dragons? Or give me the character the actor
(03:23):
is best known for playing.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Let's just watch that movie like a week ago.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
So I will take the actor or the character he's
best known for.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
I can't. I don't know it, not at all at all.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
What movie do you know that isn't what you about?
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Mulan?
Speaker 1 (03:40):
No, not Mula.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
I'm oh then okay, I guess I'm way off.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
That's okay. The Emperor in the Land of Dragons, Yes,
which is you know Mulan based, right, but yeah, it
is actually Pat Marita, best known for mister Miyamagi and
the Karate Kid. Ah, so right, I would have accepted
mister Miyagi.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
There was no mercy in that question.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
That was actually one of the last things he did
before he died was doing that for Kingdom Hearts. So
very cool. Number four, how do you say the three
fifty eight over two Like, how do you how do
you want with that? How do I say that? Three
fifty eight over two days? Okay? Because I didn't play
that one?
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Number four, the English language version of Kingdom Hearts three
fifty eight over two days was dedicated to who to
the opening in the endnet you won't know that, No,
but I'll accept his occupation.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Some director.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
No, it's actually dedicated to Wayne Alwine. But he is
iconically known as the voice of Mickey Mouse. He was,
he's been the voice of Mickey Mouse for a lifetime.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
You have to explain their relation later on.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Why Mickey Mouse?
Speaker 3 (05:06):
No. Three sixty five? Like the dedication?
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Oh, why that one? Because that's when he did he died. Yeah,
he died right before them. Well, I mean like they
had this audio, but it was the last thing he did.
Number five more voice actings than what boy band member
voiced Sepharov.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Is he in bas Street Boys?
Speaker 1 (05:34):
No done? Maybe you don't know because he loved that.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
I don't reason, Like the first thing I came to mind,
I'll do this.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
He was in in sync?
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Ah, lance, is there a lance? There's a lance?
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Isn't there's a lance? In sync?
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Answer.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
So it's his full name.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
No, I'm not gonna give it to you. I'll give
you a half point Lance Bass. You can't expect. I
don't think that's fair for me to have to know that.
Why is that?
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Because I'm not an insane fan?
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (06:11):
So Lance is as bad as good as it's ever
gonna get half point It's pretty good.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
That's what I had last.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Number six half half Squaresoft how to contest where a
fan could get their name in the game. The result
is a secret boss named.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
I know that boss. I hate that boss. I just
can't think of his name.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
I will tell you this. He is a giant crab
you can find out in the Acroba Desert.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Yes, I know, I don't I can't think of his name, all.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Right, Kurt Zisa, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
I knew all that too, I just did not know.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
That working with a half point here Number seven in
what unique location did Shinji Hashimoto get the idea for
a Disney Squaresoft crossover game? So where was it first
talked about? Ever? When did the words come out of
his mouth? It's pretty famous story.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Hmmm. Are you looking for geographical location.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Or no, it's more iconic as to where the conversation
took place, i e. McDonald's or something, you know what
I mean, Like, hmm, it's a pretty famous store, a
Disney store, the Disney store, all right. Disney and Square
(07:42):
had offices in the same building in Tokyo, and it
was first talked about while chatting with an exec and
an elevator. Literally, this franchise was birthed in an elevator.
It's a short ride, different floor. Very famous story.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
That seems so minuscule in importance.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
I think it's a big deal. Number eight. Although most
of the Kingdom Hearts games have had worldwide releases, a
handful of titles never made it overseas. How many games
does Japan have?
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Like?
Speaker 1 (08:19):
How many more than the US? Not how many do
they have total? But how many more.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Should be? Oh? Did they do well for that? Well? No,
that actually came over. I'm gonna say three.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
Ooh, it's five. They got a one up on us there.
Number nine dudes a time constraints. Ariel was not chosen
as a Princess of Heart. I'm talking about the first game,
which made a lot of people mad. Who was chosen
instead as her replacement? So they got all these princesses together. Yeah,
(09:01):
and then they get to the end They're like, oh God,
we gotta get this out. We don't have Aurial done.
Who are we thrown in there? It's a lady that helps.
This is my last question, right, this is nine.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
If I could have a bit of mercy, can I
take two guesses?
Speaker 1 (09:20):
I'll give you two, Okay, I mean it's kind of Alice.
It is Alice. That is correct, all right? One and
a half question ten fis bump question ten. I don't
think you're gonna get it, so it doesn't matter. Several
scenes and Kingdom Hearts one and two were censored in
the US, including the replacement of guns with crossbows and
(09:42):
Pirates of the Caribbean and the green blood from the
hydra in Hercules Colosseum. Another scene showed Daisy doing what
to Donald that was also censored. Humpy, No, I just
looked at this pancakes.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
I just into that picture like a few days ago.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
It's spanking you. No, I forgot what it was, all right,
So one and a half out of ten Kingdom Hearts trivia.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
I'll take it.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Actually, it says I had to know boy bands and
voice actors.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
And hardly any of the rich.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
I liked it.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
I thought there would be some zan Ord.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Kidom Hearts, of course, is a series of I guess
you'd call them crossover RPGs made by Square Enix collaboration
with Square Inox and Disney Interactive Studios. Kind of combines
Final Fantasy with you know, Disney. Very cool, very cool idea,
(10:44):
especially now that Disney is kind of branched off into
their own multiverse games like Infinity, so where Disney characters
can be with Marvel characters, or Disney can be with Star.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
Wars characters, so much bigger universe.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
If anything, this game feels like an inspiration to what
we now have, which is a multiverse mentality. I would
love to see Infinity have some kind of correlation with
Kingdom Hearts. I don't think that's happening though, but.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
I know they've released it. Disney Infinity will have the
key Blade.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Okay, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
Sure how you get it, to be honest, but I'm.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Sure they'll have at least a Sora figure. I think
that would be at least a toy box figure for Sora.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
That might be enough for me to jump in.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Really well, I mean I already heard the three point
zero really has helped with the toy box takeovers. So
I mean, if things are getting better, maybe I'll jump
in on four. God knows what four will be because
they're kind of running out of things, all right. Seven
games across multiple consoles. Most of the games have been
(11:55):
well received as of Like, as far as the numbers
are now, they've sold over twenty five million copies worldwide.
A lot of things go with it. I mean there's
you know, shirts and clothes.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
And yeah, a lot of merchandise, a lot of Disney's
gonna get.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
Disney does merch the hell out of things. We saw
that on Forced Friday, because when they did the Force
Friday thing, I've never seen so many ridiculous merchandise in
my life.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Yeah, I agree, Like, just like.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Oh, okay, what kid out there really wants a Yoda
head popping out of their wall? They close and apparently
somebody does.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Yeah, you know what I mean? Yep?
Speaker 1 (12:40):
All right, So we'll talk about the first game, Kingdom Hearts,
released in Japan on March twenty eighth, two thousand and two,
and then September two thousand and two in North America.
Go ahead, talk about Kingdom Hearts. Why'd you choose Kingdom Hearts.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
I think, like most people, the attraction was, oh, Disney
characters mixed with some Final Fantasy people had I actually
had never.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
Been Fantasy, totally different art style, so, I mean I
was a big fan of RPGs, but.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
You know, being able to see Donald and Goofy and
Mickey and like doing RPG as things which Disney, to
my notge had never even touched, like into an RPG
realm the type of gaming right on previous consoles, so
that was kind of interesting.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Yeah, Disney games up until this point were pretty limited.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
Like platform, right, they did a lot of.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
Platform especially in the eighties nineties with games like a
Laddin and then Duct Tails. Trust me, like those are
in my top they're classics, Like those are excellent games,
but they kind of shied away. I mean they saw
games like Epic Mickey and things like that, and then
they kind of went crazy and did like the Black
Rock Studios with the racing games. But this was I think,
(13:56):
I mean, this is this is probably my favorite Disney interacting.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Oh yeah, it's actually probably up there with my favorite
Square Enix series, but it's a little bit different. For RPGs,
especially during that era, it was more so considered an
action RPG where you're running around actually playing out your attacks.
(14:20):
It was very cool, like they brought in some of
the Final Fans at elements like being able to summon
you know, you could summon Simba and.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
The Genie, which was great and it's weird, like characters
they didn't really even care about, but I was happy
to get their something like Mushu band be just.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
As like prancing around give.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
You didn't really doing anything, it became necessary to be Kurt.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
I agree, agree. But so the first game introduced us
to Sora, Carrie, and Rikou, and those were original for
the series. Throughout we saw notable Disney characters from all
over the place, and we also saw some Final Fantasy
characters that we knew and loved. But I don't know, like,
(15:09):
to me, the best part of Kingdom Hearts because it
just recently replayed it on an emulator. Okay, is the
opening like with the stained glass. Yeah, oh my god,
it really like draws you.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
In there is phenomenal.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Yeah, I mean just like because I mean every game
has kind of like that training mode, right, especially because
it's a totally different kind of game than most people
have played, and they did.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
It so well because you really don't know what's going on,
Like it's asking questions like how do you feel about this?
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Oh? You must like want a sword? Right?
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Also, I mean it comes off right away as Japanese
Japanese RPG and that because like you don't know what's
going on.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Everything's weird and you start fighting this big thing from Fantasia,
the big music.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
Right, And it's funny because the original villain for the
franchise was actually going to be Maleficent, but they kind
of switched things up.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Les definitely gained a bigger role in that serious But
you know, my only ride with the Kingdom Hers, the
first one, which I was hoping to have more of,
was more final fantasy. Yeah, I feel like they I agree,
it's so final fantasy, so we can pull in that crowd.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
But you didn't go to a Final Fantasy world, or
I mean you do.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
If you do the right conditions, can fight Sephar off
right and fight Cloud, which is pretty epic in its
own right, but just not a lot of final Fantasy there.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
They kind of took the it was kind of like
they took it was more Final Fantasy seven meets you
know what I mean, Like it wasn't they didn't use
their full entourage. Disney did. Disney used a huge rage,
but we didn't really see a lot from the Final
Fantasy crowd.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
But wonderful game, wonderful music.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Ah, music is great. So even like the audio period
is great, you know what I mean. Like and it
was little too, right, I know, it's like little, but
like in the opening, especially like the breaking of the
glass or just even the when you get a hit,
like it's minimal, but it was well done.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
There's a lot of attention did and that's really a
staple of Square, I mean, honestly true. Their Final Fantasy
presentations have always point on so and.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
It was good that they I mean, this was kind
of a and it kind of felt like a one eight,
you know, like they make all these kind of just
very anime inspired game. Oh yeah, and then they kept that.
But then to see their interpretations of Disney were just
perfect as far as you know, It's kind of like
(17:53):
when Square released their version of Star Wars. Do you
remember they did that? It was like years ago. Yeah,
they did, like their version of a Stormtrooper and it
was so much better. But with Disney, with at least
Kingdom Hearts, they didn't really take me royalties and they
just kind of, you know, everything looked how you thought
it was gonna look interesting, and I really enjoyed it.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
But Kingdom Hearts one story, right. Disclaimer, we're not even
going to try to attempt to explain the story to oh,
I mean, because it's just so convoluted.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
We were here to talk about how great it is.
If you don't know how how the story goes.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
You know, you could spend about an eight hour wiki
read if you were like you.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
But it's a little too immersive, yes, to talk about it.
So who is your favorite summons we'll just do stuff
like that.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
Oh, definitely Simba, even though he's kind of hard to use.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
Yeah, Simba was my favorite. And I do not like
the Lion King.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
It's that's right. I forgot.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
It's on the low end.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
That's uh. You talked about me like blasphemy resident evil too.
That's just going away.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
Saying I don't like Lion King. Do you know why
I don't like?
Speaker 3 (19:04):
It?
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Really doesn't matter. I think I think I have a
pretty valid point. You can try, Okay, So with me
with movies like Beating the Beast, Little Mermaid. The voice actors,
they weren't well known, but they did their part, and
then they did their singing part. Lion King. Let's get
(19:26):
Matthew Broderick, who I think is pretty much a criminal. Now,
let's get Jonathan Taylor Thomas, who pretty much fell off
the face of the earth after Smallville. They did the
voice part and then somebody who sounds nothing nothing like
them does the singing part, and it took away from
(19:47):
a lot for me. Now, Jeremy Irons did do the
singing and the voice for Scar, and I appreciated Scar
as a character. See others ruined it, ruined it. If
you want to pay money to have famous people like Jonathan.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
Taylor Tom, oh my goodness, he was a kid.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
If you want to have famous kids like Jonathan Taylor
Thomas in your movie, get him to sing. And it
took a long time for Disney to get back to that.
Frozen I don't know if you know, but was a
popular film had the same people do the voice acting
and the singing. That's important.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
Wow, this is just like I just like don't even know,
so like did you okay?
Speaker 1 (20:36):
Well, so Aladdin must be like your favorite dude, Aladdin. Okay,
so the person who actually plays the character of Aladdin
from Full House did not do the singing of his character. However,
Robin Williams did and it was excellent. But the singing
of a Whole New World was not good for me.
(20:56):
There's one movie that gets the exception to the rule.
One movie, one movie that I'll love even though the
voice actor and the singer are different. No, that is
a Phil Collins love fest. That isn't even a musical
Night member for Christmas. Danny Aufman did the actual singing
(21:17):
of Jack Skellington, but did not do the voice acting.
But you cannot tell because the voice actor was that talented.
It wasn't some dude from Home Improvement. Oh my goodness, terrible, terrible.
Kingdom Heart's Chain of Memories, the direct sequel to the
(21:38):
first game, was released on the Game Boy Advanced in
Japan on November two thousand and four, and then what
else did it come out on?
Speaker 3 (21:49):
Eventually they redid it, but was it?
Speaker 1 (21:52):
Okay? I love that game, I did not play it.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
It, Okay, so it's bad.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
It's really well, Okay, it's really bad because it's just
a rehash of the first game.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
Sora loses his memory, forgets everything he just.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Did okay, and so he redoes it memories.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
And he slowly remembers that, oh, I did do this.
But the battle system is completely just out the window.
So you have it's a card battle system, but it's
not a card game. So like let's say Simba, I'll
get a Simba card on a scale of one to six.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
This is your favorite.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
No, no, no, it's.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
Favorite, but I liked it because of how different it was.
So you'd get like a Symber card and I can
take that, and if I get two more symbl cards,
I can put them on together. And basically it's like
playing war. If my card is higher than your card,
my attack goes through. But it's still live action because
I still have to run around and block and do
all these other things.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
That's another thing to bring up. Actually, so turn based
games typically typically freeze time in between attacks vis a VI,
Pokemon or something, so, and that's pretty common in Japanese.
Are pechees actually that you're a turn mind trin you're
(23:15):
a turn mind turn games. I brought up in the
past that I love Valkyria Chronicles kind of did something different.
Kingdom Hearts also did something different because you're not only
you can't. You need to be a little bit quicker
than if you were playing like Final Fantasy Too or
something like you gotta be on point and figure out.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
Like okay, jump, do something.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
Get out of the way. Get out of the way.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
Even like trying to do your summers is kind of
risky because you kind of need some time, like yeah
to build up and roar genies like does that people? So, yeah,
you're right, But that kind of kept the same element
and that was pretty much it for that. He forgets he.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Be members cool.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
Yeah, that's it though, that's it. Kingdom Hearts Too came
out in Japan on December twenty second, two thousand and five.
Did you like two more than one?
Speaker 3 (24:14):
I feel like you should go first. I want I
want you to speak on that first.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
I still like the first one more than the second one.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
I agree the.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
I appreciated more of the story, right because like Chain
of Memories didn't give you that right they didn't. But
I don't know, I just it it felt too similar
and I don't know, I just didn't do a lot.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
My main issue with the game, I felt like you're
pretty much just experiencing it, okay, because you don't have
any type of random battles hardly, right, so when you
will level up, when they say it's time for you
to level up, pretty much you will gain new abilities
when we say it's time for you to use that ability.
(25:02):
There's no type of grinding, I feel, like whatsoever. And
if you do plan on grinding, I mean it's like pointless,
like you're getting one experience point for battle.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Nice. So because like the first one, like it almost
became overwhelming the amount of random battles. Yeah, you know,
it's like I don't even want to go this well,
I don't want to just turn around.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
No, but there's so many times in two you're roaming
around like where's enemies? Yeah, but I don't know, Maybe
I need to go back and play it on a
harder setting. I don't know, but.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
I don't know what I played. But that was a
long time ago.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
And I feel like the characters that they tried to introduce,
like Soura's Other World prisona rocksist like you, Like you
talked about the intro the intro and two is terrible.
You spend so I think you spend two to three
hours actual gameplay of being this other person who's not
like using his key blade. He's like running around the
(25:54):
town skateboarding with his friends, getting a soda.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
It was it was just they didn't even know what
you were there for. No, you know what I mean,
Like there was no purpose, but you did it because
the game kind of told you to do it, you
know what I mean, And you kind of brought that
up that it was like everything was planned for you,
like they chose when you level up because they finally
give you somebody to fight that gives you experience.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
So it was a little too I don't know, predictable.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
I guess, but yeah, but the worlds are nice to see,
like the Moulan. They added Tron. I really enjoyed Tron.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
I think a lot of people enjoyed Tron when you
think about it, in a movie came out after they
you know what I mean. Yeah right, they were like, well,
people like Trod, we'll get them Tron.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
Yeah why not? Hm?
Speaker 1 (26:45):
So that's Kim Marts too. I probably wantn't I guess.
I played a little bit of the Portable essentially, but
I wouldn't put it very high on my list. Later
we'll go over ratings, all right. So after Kingdom Hearts
two was Kingdom Hearts Coded, which was a mobile phone game.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Yeah so Coded, Neilissa said, I did not play that well.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
It was released exclusively in Japan in two thousand and eight,
and then it was made what remade for DS right, yes, yes.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
To my notedge in this some type of puzzle like game.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
Yeah, I mean it was. They called it updated Gameplay,
so like they actually used gameplay elements from Coded and
put it in the next two games. But it was
it was a panel system and then like I don't know,
it was more like because they played it on DS,
but I mean it was like one of those let
(27:44):
me see your card kind of thing. It wasn't like
I owned it, but I know it was. It felt
really heavy weapon base, you know how, like in the
first one, like you're constantly equipping or keep laid to
be right for that situation. This like it felt more
like weapon management for your team than doing anything, you know.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
What I mean?
Speaker 2 (28:05):
Speaking of team, how did you feel? Were you kind
of underwhelmed that you couldn't, I guess get more out.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Of Donald and Goofy?
Speaker 2 (28:15):
What do you mean, well, because you know, like they're
in your team, but and you can kind of like
tell them more defensive.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
I want you to attack more.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
Right, But it's not games like Blue Dragon where you
pick every single person in the team's attack or defense.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
I don't know. I was kind of disappointed in that aspect.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
I guess I was, But that's because it came off
of games like you know, Final Fantasy seven, where like,
even though it's time based, like you have to tell
everybody what to do and in what order. But you're right,
it was. It's a little downer, but I think it
was made up for with just having all the keypland
(28:54):
options and all these other things.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
Yeah, the gameplay is still fun.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
I just yeah, I agree, And know, are they bringing
that into that future?
Speaker 3 (29:03):
Hard to say at this point. All Right.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
Kingdom Heart's three fifty eight Over two Days was released
for DS in Japan on two thousand and nine May thirtieth,
So I mean we're looking at you know. It came
out in two thousand and two. Long Gaps seven Years,
three fifty eight over two set between Kingdom Hearts and
Kingdom Hearts two, and it was mainly rock sas stuff.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
Right, Yes, which is the main problem with that game.
I was so excited, so.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
I'm trying to get things like figured out because they
played probably all of them, but like they just you
know what I mean, like they all kind of look alike.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
They do.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
So with three fifty eight over two, is that the
one where you're constant like grinding on poles? Which one's
that poll?
Speaker 3 (29:49):
Oh no, you're thinking of two?
Speaker 1 (29:52):
No, no, no, this was it was a handhoud I don't know.
It was birth my sleep. You're constant like rail grinding,
like Infamous style. I'll find out you talked about three
fift Eater over two.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
I was so excited for that game, and immediately I
was bored out of my mind. With that game, you
you only you spend the entire game as Roses, and
it pretty much is the Chain of Memories of two
because you're finding out stuff about Roses and why he
(30:29):
forgot who he was in two.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
So it's three yeah, a stream drop distance that was
all rail ground.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
But oh my goodness.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
I traded in the game immediately, like I didn't give
it any time because it was just so boring and
you're going back to the same world from the first one,
like who cares if Rocks is in the Laddin meetup?
Like Roxies really doesn't exist. According to two, I don't
need to do this, And it's so long and drawn out.
There's no like, there's hardly any presentation to it. Mind you,
(31:03):
it is a DS game, but I feel like the
Game Boy Advance did a much better job of making
the game feel alive. Three sixty five is just all dialogue, Like,
just read this stuff. It's just so bad for me.
Just definitely on the worst of my list.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Wow, without a question.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
Next in the series, even though it's a prequel to
all of them, is Birth by Sleep, released on the
PlayStation portable in Japan on January ninth, twenty ten. So
actually not that much after three fifty eight over.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
Two, right the better of the two.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
Did you play Birth by Sleep?
Speaker 3 (31:41):
I did not, Oh not yet. I had it, but
I just haven't started yet. I'm kind of waiting for what.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
Are you playing in it? Like? Is it? Okay?
Speaker 3 (31:50):
It was released?
Speaker 1 (31:52):
It okay, so it's part of the two point five Okay, yeah.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
But from what I read about it they had I
was really excited about the trailer from that they teased
in it, cause like you said, it is the prequel,
and it pretty much explains why Keyblays exist. What does
this whole deal with wanting to collect hearts?
Speaker 3 (32:10):
Right?
Speaker 1 (32:11):
But I mean focuses on villains.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
Right, it's it's it actually explains why you have all
the fifth villains in the Organization thirteen, which.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Is these another thirteen.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
By the one yeah right, which are the main antagonists
of the entire series sort of right, So it's very cool,
and it's very Mickey like heavy, cause he's a big
part of like this ancient war, I don't wanna say ancient,
but he's largely involved with what happened before, okay, So
which kind of like fills fills you in, like when
(32:43):
first Kin marks, like why is Mickey on this quest?
But I don't ever see Mickey or deal with Mickey
at all. True, so Verfly Sleep is like the answer.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
To all that. So I'm gonna start on it pretty soon.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
I just what I've been waiting for is for to
know like Kingdom Hearts three is on the way and
then I can jump into it and have it fresh,
try to get the story to make some sense.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
But all right, so after that was Kingdom Heart's three
D Dream Drop Distance released on the three DS in
Japan March twenty ninth, twenty twelve. Uh I enjoyed it
as well, but I mean it was just it was
it was different as well, Like it was where, you know,
the one game was focused on card play. This was
(33:30):
like button smash. Oh yeah, it was like and it's
so much, there's so many so many constantly find it. Yes,
I love it, and it's just like it's exhausting.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
It kind of is you're using.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
That rail system like in so many levels for like
you're you know, like skate skating on rails just like
where am I?
Speaker 2 (33:51):
Yeah, I definitely on that. I definitely find it. Found
it to be fun, No, totally.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
I mean it was fun.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Surprisingly. I don't know if you feel the same way.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
Probably my favorite part of the game was having the
little the dream Monsters, which I dream meaders, the dream Meters,
like I love that, yeah, like because I found out
that I actually needed them to help me to beat
the game, right, Like I couldn't beat the Final Bosters
without their help. But it was kind of cool, like
the whole you know, virtuality thing, like oh my little
dream things on my desk.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
But it's really nice.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
I mean, but I did like the training aspect, right.
I mean, I've brought up on the show multiple times
about how much I love the game Monster Rancher, which
I might do for one of my why not, So
I mean that whole game is, you know, obviously training
(34:45):
your monster and fight it. I'd actually like for you
to train a monster and bring them over and fight me.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
I really don't think that's gonna happen. But because I.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
Hate Monster Rancher, you hate, I hate it hates a
strong word.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
Well, I strongly feel.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
Well, my season is going to be extremely heavy on
fighting you, so aspect, So at the end of every episode,
I'm going to be fighting you in some capacity, be
it people texting me talking about how you think you're
better at games than me or things like that. So
(35:25):
look forward to that, folks.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:28):
But yeah, Dream Drop Distance. It was a nice addition,
you know, having that training for the dream means very
cool game, very cool game. I just I'm not into
the three D. I turned three D off.
Speaker 2 (35:42):
It was kind of a struggle to try to do that.
I would love to try to get there's so much motion.
There's way too much motion for it. I did enjoy
being able to play as Rique though, yeah you too,
so because he's like so like no nonsense.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
His weaponry is style but kind of the zero of Kingdom.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
Hearts kind of. Yeah, that's a good that's a good
way to put it. I guess. So Kingdom Hearts, I
mean they've done multiple things with Kingdom Heart's mobile and
Kingdom Hearts on you know, Verizon Wireless Broadband's Kingdom Heart
Ye several collections, including one point five Remix, two point
(36:22):
five remix, and the Collector Pack HD one point five
two point five Remix. Oh boy, that's a lot.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
That's actually four Kingdom March four.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
Right. Uh, so I want to talk a little bit
about Kingdom Hearts three. What what are you thinking?
Speaker 2 (36:42):
Uh, they're so like hush hush about it. Right from
what I've seen, it seems very.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Grand, Like.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
I can't think of who he is that he's fighting
from Hercules, the big giant rock monster, but the scale
of that monsters is huge, and you're like on that train,
he's just going all around him, just actually hitting him.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Yeah, It's like that's just seems.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
Like it's going to be very very very good.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
The arstyle, I'm kind of like, I know, they're they're
trying to progress. It as like he's getting older and
so he looks more mature.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
But I feel like it's kind of losing some of
his charm that not like caught.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
Me in the first one.
Speaker 2 (37:25):
I don't know, like him just looking so anime if
you would like new age anime, I kind of consider it.
It doesn't look cartoony anymore. So it doesn't look Disney.
He just looks weird being next to Donald Google, who
still obviously looked like a cartoon.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
Yeah. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
It went more to a Roger Rabbit kind of. Yeah, yeah,
then kind of a nice medium, be.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
A cool person to put in.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
Well if you did not know Roger Rabbit is in
fact owned by Disney. Yeah, so that is an option
that would be cool.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (38:01):
I mean he's on the quest to find the other
key blade holders, right, yeah, So does that mean we're
going to be playing as them or is there gonna
be points where like we have people that have key
blades on our team? Are they going to do a team?
I really don't know because with dream Drop, I mean
there wasn't a team. There were just your little pet things, right.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
I would actually probably like them to go Away or
birth by Sleep where you have the three scenarios. Maybe
maybe we'll get to play as Mickey this time and
like actually get to do something with him.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
I think that they know that Mickey needs to be playable,
you know, in some fashion. No, I mean it feels pretty.
It feels like time right right, They're like, you know what,
we've been falling around for quite some time. Let's let's
throw the mouse.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
From my understanding, this is supposed to conclude everything. I
think it's the end of the series, but it should
give all the answers and tie everything together, right, So
I am expecting to at least do that, maybe Ricou again.
But what I really want to see, like we talked
about earlier, I want to see more Final Fantasy. Like
(39:17):
I know everybody out there is so tired of Lightning,
but since Square decided to put it to make last
year so lightning heavy, we might as well have her.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
In the universe.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
We might have I mean, I mean, really, do we
really want to bring Cloud back?
Speaker 3 (39:34):
Like?
Speaker 1 (39:36):
I know?
Speaker 3 (39:36):
But can we move on? There's there's so many people
in Final Fantasy.
Speaker 2 (39:39):
Let's try to be modern, Okay, so you don't at
least want a final Fantasy world.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
No, of course I do, of course, And if it
has to be, it can be Lightnings Timelin. I mean no,
trust me. She got a lot better. Yeah, over time
with two like, but it wasn't an instant fan.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
I agree, I definitely agree.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
But that entire first game was so linear that I
just hated it. Beyond Oh yeah yeah, any kind of imagination.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
Maybe some Pixar worlds, maybe hopefully a marvel In Star
Wars world.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
I know they've said they want to do it. It's
just up to Disney.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
Oh, they do want to do it.
Speaker 2 (40:21):
Yeah, squaresaid will do it if you let us do it.
Speaker 1 (40:25):
Wow, so that would be. But see, like I have
my issues with that because I don't like Infinity's version
of Star Wars. I don't want to. Well, you said
they just kind of put it up on social network.
It wasn't like a real thing. I'm surprised they didn't
(40:46):
get in trouble for it. But I will show you
an image if you'd like to. At home, you can
google Enix Star Wars and I'm gonna show him a Stormtrooper.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
Oh wow, that's like so much better.
Speaker 1 (41:04):
That I'm going to show him. Darth Vader is created
by Square Enix artists.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
I really like that. Yeah, like so much.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
No, I mean, like there, I want I want him
to be this is my favorite. So I'm gonna show
him one more image and it's Boba fet by Square
Enix artists and it is pretty intense.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
So yeah, that's definitely intense.
Speaker 1 (41:30):
Right, I wouldn't mess with any of those.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
No, I want that vagree that Stormtrooper is.
Speaker 3 (41:37):
I want him to be the sef boss of three Vader.
Speaker 2 (41:41):
Yes, I want him to be that boss that you
have to be a level ninety nine to fight, and
even then it's going to be hard.
Speaker 3 (41:47):
I want that one.
Speaker 1 (41:48):
But yeah, Square reserved rights. They made those into action
figures after they showed the images, and if we can
get on board, we're Square. I don't even see. I'm
not even really concerned about Marble, to be honest, I'm
okay with just Star Wars because I feel like.
Speaker 3 (42:09):
Marvel would be kind of hard.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
It's just too much going on. They can be summons
if you want, sure.
Speaker 3 (42:15):
Oh yeah that would be fun too. Yeah, somebody in
Darvader would be kind of weird though.
Speaker 1 (42:19):
Yeah, he's more of a fight but I mean is
I don't know if it's gonna be awkward, Like when
Soul Caliber did it.
Speaker 3 (42:27):
That was awesome.
Speaker 1 (42:28):
No, no, it was awesome, but it just was kind.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
Of well for me, all the other characters were irrelevant
when they put the Star Wars characters in play, those
those three So no.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
I mean, the same thing happened like when they first
did Spawn on the Xbox Link on the GameCube, right,
and who they do for Oh, they did Haiichi for
the PlayStation PS two, I guess. But when they did that,
like I what, I bought three copies of it. Not
(42:58):
as excited about the PlayStation version, but for me, being
able to play a spawn.
Speaker 3 (43:03):
Yeah, was huge for me. I mean, you don't give
much spawn action anymore if you're a fan.
Speaker 1 (43:09):
And he was done so well, he was. Oh okay,
let's go over review scores for Kingdom Hearts, and I
want to know if you agree, disagree.
Speaker 3 (43:20):
Or I know what better, have a bad score.
Speaker 1 (43:24):
Well we'll find out.
Speaker 3 (43:26):
Let's see.
Speaker 1 (43:26):
So I'm going to be going over the metacritics score
because it takes things from all over the place, including
you know, I mean these are mainly professional reviews, but
still they're coming from all over the place and giving
a nice median out of one hundred.
Speaker 3 (43:42):
So here we go.
Speaker 1 (43:45):
I will go in order of release. Okay, Kingdom Hearts
Metacritic score of eighty five.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
I disagree at that time this should be like a
ninety and up. There was nothing like that at that time,
especially for PS two was early PS to.
Speaker 1 (44:02):
If they were retro reviews, maybe, but not really because
I think it still stands up pretty well interesting. Kingdom
Hearts Chain of Memories Metacritics score seventy six. I could
see it, yeah.
Speaker 2 (44:18):
Only because it was a Game Boy Advance game and
it was kind of pointless.
Speaker 1 (44:21):
But okay, Kingdom Hearts two Metacritics score eighty seven, the
highest rated game in the I just.
Speaker 2 (44:33):
Thought it was going to get higher than that, just
because of how crazy the internet is for two.
Speaker 3 (44:37):
But I think that one is actually fair.
Speaker 1 (44:40):
Yeah, I hads with it. But as a game, yes,
it was solid.
Speaker 3 (44:47):
Yes. Wow, I'm surprised those due did not get in nineties.
Speaker 1 (44:52):
Yeah, okay, if I would put Super.
Speaker 3 (44:54):
Mario Gilgs my Team ninety.
Speaker 1 (44:58):
Nine that you ask for me, Kingdom Hearts Rechain of Memories, right, saying, say,
I guess Kingdom Heart's chain of BG. Yeah, uh sixty eight.
Speaker 2 (45:16):
Wait did it actually score lower than the Game Boy Advance. Wow,
that's terrible.
Speaker 1 (45:21):
Because I think people were like, why did you do this?
Speaker 3 (45:23):
Good?
Speaker 2 (45:24):
No, that's actually terrible because they went out of the
way to reanimate that entire game, had cut scenes, and
they gave you a second story to play as recoup.
It should be at least a seventy seven.
Speaker 1 (45:36):
Sixty eight terrible. Kingdom Hearts three fifty eight over two
days seventy five.
Speaker 3 (45:45):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 2 (45:47):
Wow, I'm gonna have to look at I'm gonna actually
have to read reviews for that one, because that's just
there's no way it must be. Because there was such
a long time between Kingdommark games, they were just happy
to have one.
Speaker 1 (46:02):
Kingdom Heart's Birth by Sleep eighty two. M.
Speaker 3 (46:10):
I can't really speak to it, but I thought it
would be better than that.
Speaker 1 (46:13):
I mean, that's pretty that's the third highest Kingdom Heart's
recouded the lowest sixty six. What do you think.
Speaker 3 (46:31):
I suppose?
Speaker 2 (46:32):
I mean, being a mobile game is kind of underwhelming
but true.
Speaker 1 (46:39):
And lastly, Kingdom Hearts three D dream Drop Distance Metacritic
score of seventy five.
Speaker 3 (46:48):
I really thought you were going to say, like a
ninety two tying three.
Speaker 1 (46:51):
Fifty eight over two days.
Speaker 2 (46:54):
Only the audience can see my face because I'm just
flabbergasted by that.
Speaker 1 (47:01):
Now, throughout the history, there's been many accolades for the
Kingdom Hearts franchise. I mean, Kingdom Hearts two sold an
estimated one million copies in its first month, So, I mean,
you know, people love the games. The scores might not be,
you know, the best, but like Game Informer considers a
(47:24):
series the eleventh must play PlayStation two series, that's a
little low.
Speaker 2 (47:32):
It is if PlayStation two didn't have such a rich library.
Speaker 1 (47:36):
It is a huge library. But what would you put
over that? In particular, God of War.
Speaker 2 (47:41):
I'm sure got Awars on there, probably the final fantasies, okay,
Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clay, metal Gear, metal.
Speaker 3 (47:49):
Gear definitely, But I mean it's not the tough list.
I guess it'd be in my top five.
Speaker 1 (47:54):
Though I would at least give it a ten, top ten,
I would think, so he is tusing, You're right though
it's a big it's a big world. We also had
best art style direction That was for IGN in the
two thousand and two Best and Worst of the Year
Awards Best Looking Games on PS two two thousand and three.
(48:16):
It made the list, they weren't in any order. G
four awarded it Best Story at the two thousand and
three G four Awards. If you don't know what G
four was, it used to be a pretty sweet station
about Yeah, it was like ESPN for people like me
and you. But it's gone. It's male fashion now.
Speaker 3 (48:40):
It's so gone, like not ever remembered.
Speaker 1 (48:43):
Electronic Gaming Monthly awarded Kingdom Hearts two Best Sequel of
two thousand and six. That's kind of a week award.
It is how many sequels. I am tied Resident Evil
four as Famitsu's Game of the Year two thousand and five.
Speaker 3 (49:00):
Which kennymars too. Yeah. Wow, now that's actually a high praise.
That is. I'm surprised that Residing before actually.
Speaker 1 (49:10):
I didn't even know that's when it came out.
Speaker 3 (49:12):
Yeah, surprised I had to compete with that.
Speaker 1 (49:14):
Yeah. There's been several top one hundred and fifty sellers
for the manga four Kingdom Hearts. Every volume listed stayed
on the list for at least two weeks, so Voume
four was in the top sellers for four weeks, so
maybe you should read those maybe you'll get some information,
(49:36):
But remember you had to read them backwards.
Speaker 3 (49:38):
Yeah, the whole universe is backwards anyway.
Speaker 2 (49:43):
So I wanted to ask before we close it, do
you consider at this point Sora to be more of
a Disney property or Square.
Speaker 3 (49:51):
I don't feel like he fits.
Speaker 2 (49:53):
In with the persona Final Fantasy.
Speaker 1 (49:57):
I feel like he is a Disney really.
Speaker 3 (50:00):
He's so young, I know, but that's why I just
he doesn't.
Speaker 1 (50:05):
I think once he ages, he's becoming more and more squary.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
Yeah, but I guess I just feel like he definitely
belongs to Disney, and Disney definitely Marcus.
Speaker 3 (50:16):
I mean, they market the mess out of.
Speaker 2 (50:18):
Him, and he just I don't know, his whole attitude
and charisma just seems more like I can see Disney
make it.
Speaker 1 (50:28):
Like he comes off as a female Final Fantasy character.
You know, they have like the token happy girl, and
he kind of has that mentality, right, But I mean physically,
I mean, you know, his color palette was Mickey Mouse's
color palette, So I mean literally, he's the same colors
(50:51):
as Mickey Mouse. The same yellow, is the same red,
same you know.
Speaker 3 (50:55):
So.
Speaker 1 (50:57):
I guess in that sense, he comes off as more
of a Disney property. But no, I'm gonna have to
go with square. Yeah, and I think we're gonna see
that even more in the.

very special Kingdom Hearts episode one and a half out
of ten. For Dante, I'll take it. The next episode
is actually Dante's final episode of his season, the final
season of Dante Boo. But then, of course he'll be
back for my final season, where he will try his
(51:31):
hardest to make me do as poorly as him in
the trivia.
Speaker 3 (51:36):
And I'm not giving you any halves.
Speaker 1 (51:38):
Wow. Good to know. So cheating will have to happen
because I refuse to do as bad as hell. I refuse.
The next episode that you'll be ending on, of course,
is probably the most iconic that you have ever chosen,
even more so than Super But listen, if I had
(52:00):
you get a group of people, geeky, nerdy people, and
I was like, hey, raise your hand if you love Mario,
and then you get people. Then you get raised people.
Raise raise your head if you love link your legend
of Zelda, and you'll get more of those. There's more
people with tri Force tattoos than there are with one
(52:20):
up mushroom.
Speaker 3 (52:21):
Oh, but there's more people with Mario merchandise.
Speaker 1 (52:24):
Is because they make more. I'll tell you which cartoon
was better. Oh, the Mario Brothers show was good.
Speaker 3 (52:33):
H excuse me, it definitely is.
Speaker 1 (52:42):
