Jerry returns to the show for another deep dive into the South Mountains of North Carolina—a region he calls one of the strangest “hotspot” corridors he’s ever researched. Drawing from decades of local accounts, family histories, and firsthand reports, Jerry traces a chilling pattern of unexplained activity across the South Mountains, the Great Smokies, the Blue Ridge, and even the Pacific Northwest.

This episode unfolds like a living archive of the weird: early-1900s stories of eerie vocalizations rolling through the hollers, barns disturbed in the dead of night, and unsettling encounters that left families questioning what really stalks those ridgelines. From Carpenter’s Knob to backroads you’d never notice on a map, the stories stack up—each one different, yet threaded by the same sense of being watched, followed, or hunted. Then the episode pivots into something even darker: the black-eyed children phenomenon.

Through Dave, the lifelong partner of Susan, we hear her spine-freezing encounter that followed her mother’s death—a night marked by a knock at the door, a request to be let inside, and the unmistakable terror of realizing something wasn’t human. Susan’s experience mirrors incidents tied to her mother years earlier, raising disturbing questions about generational patterns, grief triggers, and why certain places seem to attract the unexplainable.By the end, you’ll be left wondering what makes these mountains a magnet for high-strangeness—and whether some forces don’t just haunt locations… but follow bloodlines.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now one of your pudding. I got a string going
on here, something just cause my dog. Something killed your dog.
My dog. We're flying through the air over the tree.
I don't know how it did it, Okay, Damn, I'm
really confused. All I saw was my dog coming over
the fence and he was dead. And once you hit
the ground like, I didn't see any cars. All I
saw was my dog coming over the fence. Sat what

(00:38):
are you putting? We got some wonder or something crawling
around out here? Did you see what it was or
was it was? Standing enough? I'm out here looking through
the window now and I don't see anything. I don't
want to go outside. Jesus Quice, you better hello, get

(01:03):
the boddy out here. What que on out there? That's
part of a bitch of about sixty forty nine? I
don't know, easy an outer yeh.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
All right? I want welcome everybody. This week's episode of
the Strange and Unexplained Phenomena of the South Mountains of
North Carolina. In this episode, we're talking about a part
of the phenomenon that is very fascinating. The fact that
there's areas of the world, and certainly of the United States,
that are hotspots. The South Mountains is a hotspot, parts
of the Great Smokies, in the Blue Ridge Mountain hotspots,

(01:34):
parts of the Pacific Northwest and on. But also within
these areas of hotspots there are smaller areas that are
small microcosms of the hotspot, and only they see hotter
hotspots than the broader sense of the area being a hotspot.
Famous examples of this would be the Boggy Creek area
near Fauth, Arkansas. So many of these areas have this

(01:58):
intermittent thing where they'll have weeks, days, even monts or
years of things happening, and then it goes silent for
a while and then starts back. It seemed to be
the case down there in and around the area of Falk,
the Boggy Creek, the Sufur River bottoms. If you've never
seen a movie Legend of Bogy Creek, you got to
see it. That's the granddaddy of them all. Locally, on

(02:18):
the eastern end of the South Mounds here we have
a place, a little mountain called Cartner's Knob that's been
an area such as this, Particularly in the late nineteen seventies,
there was a number of reports that came out out
of the area of Cartner's Knob. Now that timeframe, in
particular in and around the area of Kayser, North Carolina,

(02:38):
there was a number of encounters. You can find these
listed in the Bigfoot casebook Kaser spelled Csar. Tonight, we're
going to talk about two areas that are definitely hot
spots within the hotspot. Now, last week's episode, we talked
about the grandfather of my friend who is elderly, is
in his mid eighties now. He had shared his encounter,

(03:02):
but he also shared encounters that his grandfather and later
his father told him about. So in last week's episoden,
you'll recall that the grandfather and his brother had gone
on a camping trip to hunt and trap, and they
wound up running for their lives in the dark woods,
having a run for hours in the dark woods to

(03:23):
get back to the safety of their farm. And when
they got back, the last thing they heard before they
went in the house in the early wee hours of
that morning was off in the distance, these vocalizations, these
strange sounds of wells and the whoops and that type
of thing. The grandfather said that there was nothing to
speak of that happened after that, and he had gotten
it in his mind. He said, he always had that

(03:43):
experience he had in the deep woods in the back
of his mind, but he thought it was over. But
evidently it was not, And said, in the spring of
nineteen seventeen, after a few months of nothing, that the
family begin to hear off in the distance in the woods,
these wells, these howls, these whoops, and strangely enough, oddly enough,

(04:06):
occasionally they would hear that weird vocalization that he and
his brother had heard while in the deep Was this
in a deep, gravelly voice hob sometimes followed by snorts
or ape like sounds, and sometimes not. But the grandfather
reported that that summer he went to milk the cow
in the barn early pre dawn hours, and suddenly something

(04:28):
started beating on the side of the barn. He said,
it was aloud, it shook the barn, and he heard
the distinct sound of that weird vocalization, only it was
more hushed, And he said he got himself together and
he peeked out at the back of the barn, and
the sun was just beginning to think about showing itself
in the distance in the woods just behind the barn.

(04:49):
He heard the sound of something his words, heavy footed walking.
He got back to the house and got his father
and his brother, and they went to investigating. Found nothing
but from and then only said they locked the barn
at night with a chain, because he didn't say why
in specific, but that they were afraid for the welfare
of their animals that was in the bar. Then there

(05:10):
was an incident a number of years later. I can't
remember the exact number, but it was within a few
years that his mother, in the evening time, was outside
gathering in the wash. Now that southern four went out
to the clothes line to get the clothes off the
clothesline and bring them in the house, and she heard
in the distance in the woods near the house the

(05:31):
sound of something walking, and she stopped and watched, and
she finally caught movement. She told her family that she
saw a booker completely covered by hair. She saw the
back of it walking on two feet, very large and
an oddly shaped head. She had forgotten completely about the
wash and left it there, went in and got the men,

(05:52):
and they came back out. They didn't see anything. Just
a short while later, off in the distance, they heard
the whaling. This type of thing went on for years,
and then later the grown son inherited half to farm.
My friend's father inherited have to farm his brother inherited half,
and they continued to have encounters. Late one night in

(06:15):
the early nineteen forties, his father had gone to the
outhouse or late night visit sometimes that can't be helped.
Dave was in the outhouse and something was throwing things
at the outhouse. I'm going to just assume how I
would react. I would be in shock that I am
doing my business and this starts to happen. But suddenly
something came and started banging on the outhouse so hard

(06:38):
that it was rocking it to some extent. The father
said that he fled it went in the house and
they did not go outside that night to investigate. The
next day they went to find the door of the
outhouse was ripped off. I would have to find an alternative.
And even back in the nineteen forties, it wasn't common
for people around here to have innbore plumbing, but I

(06:58):
borried and stole to indoor plumbing. After that incident, he
reported many other terrifying encounters, but oddly enough, the father
said it stopped about nineteen forty five, and nothing was happening. Now,
I told you the story of my friend, the elderly
man who's now in his eighties, whose father we was
just talking about, whose grandfather we was talking about. Nineteen

(07:20):
fifty two, as a young boy ten years old, if
I remember right, he went down to the barn late
at night to cut a gas valve off of the tractor,
and he had a terrifying encounter. From then on until
he left there to go to college, that they had
these types of encounters off in the distance. They would
hear the wailing and the tree knocking in the whooping.

(07:42):
Said that they never heard that strange vocalization that the
grandfather had reported hearing so many times, and that the
father had heard as a child. It continued for many years.
Now my elderly friend doesn't live there anymore. As a
matter of fact, the house is gone and there's nothing
there but ruins. But it makes you wonder, in this
particular instance, were they just interested in that form or

(08:06):
these things whenever they were still peeved because of that
intrusion way back decades before, when the grandfather and his
brother was literally chased out of the woods in the
dark of the night. Why don't we see this phenomena
around the world of these creatures, these things being interested
in some areas more than others. It's said that they

(08:29):
always travel the creeks. We've got a lot of creeks
around here, and there happens to be a creek right
near that farm that we were just talking about. Got
a lot to cover tonight in this episode, so jump
in and hang on. Tonight. We're talking about a hotspot area.
A hotspot area that is an area that seems to
have a high concentration of encounters. The notable thing about

(08:51):
this hotspot area is that this continues up until this day.
The area in question and I have featured, if you'll remember,
we have found their killed fields as well as others.
Come to find out, this area has a history. A
lady who lived in this area many years ago would
often report that from her window or her back porch

(09:13):
in the woods, she would see these large, hairy, upright
creatures walking in the woods, but she called them boogers.
And a family that lived in this area many years
ago reporting that classic foul smell, especially in the summer
when they had to sleep with the windows open. That
same family the children of that family being sternly told,

(09:35):
you do not go outside of this house at night
for any reason whatsoever. A family that would pin their
curtain shut because anyone boogers looking in at them. It's
a common thing that you hear out of appollites you,
by the way, but that stern warning has been given
out many times in this area. Adult go in these
woods at night. I'd have been the recipient of that

(09:58):
warning on more than one occasion. Now that seguays us
into talking about Ray, I have mentioned Ray. I've talked
about Ray and some of his experience on previous episodes.
That's not his real name, protecting his identity, his privacy,
protecting his location. But Ray and his wife moved into
this area a number of years back, and he was
soon warned outright, stay out of the woods at night.

(10:21):
Don't do it. But Ray, an outdoorsman, a man who
loved the woods, who loved nature, who loved hikes, reported
that he began to take long hikes, ours long hikes,
but that he would often just suddenly get this strange feeling.
The strange feeling, if you've ever experienced it, you'll never
forget it. The strange feeling like you're being watched, or

(10:41):
you get this feeling, you feel fear, you feel dread,
you feel unease, but you're not exactly sure of whinner.
And other than a couple of tree breaks along the way,
trees about that big being broke over while they're alive,
not a whole lot happened in the first few years
that they lived in the area. But the first significant

(11:02):
thing that happened was about five years after they moved
into this area. As he and his wife returned home
late one night. There by the road was a large silhouette.
Ray said that it was at least seven feet tall
and was extremely broad. It simply turned after the headlights
revealed it and walked away in the opposite direction. Not
long after that, strange sounds would fill the night. Sometimes

(11:26):
it would be one strange sound, sometimes none, but some
nights it would be many sounds going on into the
wee hours of the morning. Whoops, hows, deep guttural yells
and growls, wood knocks, and that type of thing. But
as time went on, the source of these sounds seemed
to get more comfortable, coming closer and closer to their

(11:48):
place as well as to their neighbors places on a
cool spring night in twenty eighteen, as they laid in
bed after eleven PM watching TV, there was a loud thud.
Something had clearly hit the outside of their house. We
got up, got dressed, went outside, didn't see anything, but
there was that signature foul smell, something that they would

(12:09):
experience many times. That signature foul smell. This type of
thing was something hitting the outside of the house would
happen many time. It continues to happen. There's been times
of the walkd outside in the morning to find it.
Long furniture other objects in their backyard have been haphazardly
thrown around as though something had a tip or tetrum.
Feed barrels broken into a feed trough on one occasion

(12:31):
tore off the wall. Water tubs moved while full of water.
Other casions, water tubs turned over and the empty tubs
drug down the hill away from the barn. Items taken
out of the barn. But Ray has experienced a number
of us specially unnerving and frightening incidents very often as

(12:52):
he has to go outside to check on his livestock
before calling in tonight, it reports he would hear the
sound of heavy footed water looking down in the woods
below his pasture. But then late one night he was
missing one of his animals and he descended the hill
with the spot like looking for the animal, and as

(13:12):
he swept the woods, he stopped on a pair of
red eyes looking back at him, and reported they was
high off the ground that it was one of the
most frightening moments of his entire life. On another occasion,
he was down at the bottom of the hill late
at night tending to an animal that had gotten hurt,
gonna render it aid and try to get it back
up the hill, when just yards from him inside the woods,

(13:34):
this whistling sound began. He said it unnerved him and
made him feel almost sick to his stomach. On another occasion,
as he went out to check on his animals from
a very close distance, heard this deep bass guttor or
yell and growl. He said he could feel it in
his chest like he was standing next to a speaker.

(13:57):
On another occasion, as he was trying to round up
an animal laid it night, he got to the bottom
of his pasture and just yards inside the woods he
was yelled at in this deep guttural sound followed by,
as he described it, a big giant or two being
slashed all of a sudden, with a sudden exhale of air,
very loud, very powerful. But here's something that interests me greatly.

(14:22):
That is the strange activity exhibited by wildlife. So on
a number many occasions, multiple occasions over the years, he
would go outside final check on the pasture area to
find that deer a dozen or so would be in
his pasture up next to the barn, or at the

(14:43):
bottom of his pasture but backed up to the fence,
or at the sides of his pasture, hugging up to
the fence. But he's also witnessed gathered in his backyard
multiple rabbits. Like he said, the first time that this happened,
he walked outside about two in the morning to get
wood off the wood rack on a cold night and
stay tuned for more sasquatch out to see. We'll be

(15:05):
right back after these messages. And there in the backyard
just set a bunch of rabbits and they just looked
at it, just stared at him. They didn't run. That's
not normal. It's as though those animals are coming uphill
into the open area like they're trying to escape something.

(15:27):
Number of occasions, relative and friends coming to visit to
stay the night had experiences. In particular, there was a
few that stood out. His mother came to visit and
she was outside with him walking a doll, and there
was this loud, long, deep howl that came from out
of the woods on the high ground, and she slept
for the rest of the night with the light on.
His daughter well night. Coming home later, she got out

(15:51):
of her car, she heard several of the frightening vocalizations
very close. She didn't say anything at the time, but
she's woke up early in the morning, in the wee
hours of the morning, it was still dark, and she
heard something walking outside of her window, and she said
it sounded big. And slept with the lights on that night,
And she didn't actually tell Ray about that for quite

(16:12):
some time afterwards. Several friends of Ray refused to stay
after dark. They often experienced a foul smell, rock throwing,
a pair of hunters being witnessed to vocalizations in the
rock throwing footprints found nearby. What are these creatures so
interested in this particular area?

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Is it?

Speaker 2 (16:32):
Food? Is a curiosity? And this is a phenomenon that
happens elsewhere where. These creatures just seemed to lock in
on one place and kind of stay there, sometimes for
short periods, sometimes for medium periods, sometimes for long periods.
So think about it. What would you do if you
walked outside at night to walk your doll and your

(16:52):
flashlight hit a pair of red eyes looking at you,
or something started whistling at you from the dark where
you heard these yells and scream and wooden knocks. Tonight,
we're jumping riding in because we've got a lot of
ground to cover, going to lay a little bit of
groundwork first. Now, throughout the world, people have reported encounters
that involved a certain facet encounters with cryptied creatures, namely

(17:14):
the bigfoot sashquatch variety. But here's the twist. Many people
have one on record saying that during their encounter they
simply became frozen, maybe hypnotized it as a way to
say it, Unable to act, some cases, unable to even speak,
to do anything other than stand there and look and
see what they were seeing. I have interviewed several witnesses

(17:34):
who have reported this type of reaction. Now and then
there's the type of encounter that has been experienced in
large numbers relative to all sasquatch sidings, and experienced by
people from all corners of North America and the world
for that matter. That is the nighttime roadside encounters. Now,

(17:56):
as an interesting side note, one of the things that
I've ran across in my research is that many times
witnesses of these dark nighttime roadside encounters have been a
law enforcement officers. Now, presumably that's because they're out at
these odd dark hours of the night on a consistent,
ongoing basis, and the more you're out there, the more

(18:17):
you increase your chances of having an encounter. And I
think that this just adds another layer of credibility to
the whole phenomenon. And finally, there are the reports involving
the glowing red eyes, the horrifying glowing red eyes. The
experience I'm sharing with you tonight was that of a Lawndale,
North Carolina man, and his encounter involved all three of

(18:39):
these facets that I just spoke of, if you're recalling,
I shared with you the experience of an Elberly couple
who at night, late at night, was just north of Kaser,
North Carolina, and they both were terrified. As they drove
the headlights silhouetted something ahead on the side of the road.
As they got closer, they realized this something was a creature,

(19:02):
and that just as they started to pass the creature,
it turned enough and they saw its eyes and it
was glowing red. When they recounted that story to me,
I saw the terror come back afresh in their eyes.
As the elderly lady was physically shaking the man's voice
who was doing most of the talking, his voice was shaking.

(19:22):
This encounter was shared with me just this past week,
and it resonated with me so much I got in
a big hurry to share it with you guys. I'll
just put it out there. It's one thing to tell
other people's stories, but I have personally experienced this type
of thing, the nighttime roadside of encounter. I've talked about it,
but here we go. There's a stretch of North Carolina
Highway two twenty six, and this stretch I speak of

(19:44):
runs from I forty cross from Rutherford County just into
Cleveland County, North Carolina, to Popeville, North Carolina, and it'll
take you through places like Disertville and near the Cane
Creek Community, Golden Valley, the portion in Rutherford, CA. He
practically cuts through the very periphery of the South Mountains

(20:04):
Game Preserve the South Mountains themselves. It's a beautiful drive
during the day, but at night it's a lonely, dark,
desolate stretch of highway. Tonight's encounter occurred on a very
foggy night in May of twenty fifteen, and our witness,
who we're going to call Edward, was traveling east by
southeast on this stretch of highway to twenty six, very

(20:25):
close to the South Mountains Game Preserve, and Edward was
driving slower than normal because of the heavy fog that
I mentioned earlier. As it came out of a curd
there just the head, he noticed movement on the left
side of the road, and he slowed down and then
stopped as it became apparent to him that someone or
something was getting ready to cross the road. He said

(20:47):
that at first he thought it was a bear, as
it seemed to be stooped over to some extent, but
then it stood up, and he said, by then all
doubt was removed. He quickly figured out that it was
not a bear. I'm just going to use his direct words,
Edward said, all I could do was look. I was frozen.
Then the smell hit me. He said. His window was

(21:10):
partially down because while he was driving, he was smoking.
He went on to say, but the smell was putrid,
like a cross between a writing corpse, fickle matter and
the skunk that coalesces very well. Was multitudes of descriptions
of the infamous bigfoot sasquatch smell. But there he sat
in the stopped car, and he said he was just frozen.

(21:31):
He estimated at the time that what he was looking
at stood between nine to ten feet tall, very broad shoulder,
dark brown hair all over its body except for its face.
Going back to his direct quote, he said, but the
thing that turned my blood cold was the ies. Edward said.
It stepped out into the road and turned and looked

(21:52):
quote dead at him. He said his headlights was on right,
and that what he was looking at filled up his windshield.
It was just that massive, in that broad shoulder, in
that tall and he said, and I quote, I had
a nineteen eleven under my seat. A nineteen eleven would
be a Colt nineteen eleven forty five. Pistol said, I

(22:15):
had a nineteen eleven under my seat, and I was
so frozen with fright. I couldn't even reach for it.
My mind kept telling me to get it, but I
was frozen. He went on to say, we made eye
contact in what seemed to be forever. Then it gave
me a weird look and started to come towards the

(22:36):
car and started making a deep guttural growl when it
stopped and looked over my car due to an oncoming
car from behind Edward's car. He said that it then
turned and finished crossing the road and went up the
steep terrain and just disappeared into the woods. Edward reported
to me that the next day, about two pm, he

(22:57):
went back to that same spot and he used a
tree that was there by the road when he first
saw the creature stand up to extrapolate and measures give
him an idea of the height, because, let's face it,
you and I, all of us, it would be hard
for us to believe at the time that we're looking
at a bipedal creature that's standing nine to ten feet tall.

(23:19):
Sure Enough, he took a tape measure with him and
according to his extrapolation his estimates based on that tree,
it stood around nine feet eleven inches tall all End.
This was Edward's words. Needless to say, I believe in
my granny's tales about them, but I don't venture into
the mountains after dark anymore. I went from a non

(23:42):
believer to a believer real quick. For anyone that thinks, oh,
I'll just shoot it until you're face to face with
it and you're frozen dead still, you can't honestly say
what you would do. Bravo Edward. I agree with you wholeheartedly.

(24:02):
Those red eyes do something to a person, don't I
want to say thank you to Edward for sharing this
account with me, and I want to say thank you
to all of you who have shared accounts with me
that this has been an incredible thing for me. My
love in this phenomenon is hearing people's stories, hearing people's
encounters from them, not from books, not from documentaries, but

(24:27):
talking with them personally. I have Susan's story. The topic
is a phenomenon known as the Black Eyed Children all
the Black Eyed Kids, commonly abbreviated as b e K.
It is a topic I knew very little about. I
knew some reports came from around the country, specifically, some
reports out of the Appalachians, but beyond that I knew

(24:48):
very little. I immediately consulted with some people in the
field of paranormal research, and across the boarder reactions seemed
to be the same, that this was a sinister thing,
that by its very nature was sinister in dark, and
that it was something not to be taken lightly. And
so I began to research the topic. At some point
I just cut my research short. I had planned on

(25:09):
doing a two part episode and focus in the first
part of the episode heavily on the history, on the origins,
the theories and that type of thing, and then the
second part of the episode on Susan's story. But I
decided to do it differently. I'm going to share with
you just a brief picture of the history of the phenomena,
the ideas and the theories on what this phenomenon means,

(25:31):
where do they come from, what are they? But I
want to present to you in its entirety, without abbreviating
it at all, Susan's story. Quick research reveals that this
phenomena supposedly was first reported on a mass basis by
a man named Brian bethl on Applene, Texas, in nineteen
ninety six, just a cursor research of the Internet and

(25:51):
you too. I found an account from the late eighteen hundreds,
an account from nineteen eighteen in Texas, an account from
the Mountains of Virginia in the nineteen fifty just to
name a few. I believe that this phenomena has existed,
at minimum in folklore for a very long time, and
I feel like that it probably originated from an isolated

(26:12):
rural area such as the Appalachian Mountains or the Appalachian Foothills.
But I don't know. I do know that there's many
reportss come in from many different places, a lot of
speculations or what this phenomena means, what these entities are.
Some say they're demons, some say aliens. Some say they're
disgruntled spirits taking the form of children to disarm their
intended victims. Some associate them with cursed grounds, Some associate

(26:35):
them with unmarked graves, some associate them with Native American
burial grounds. There's no shortage of ideas on this phenomena.
But rather than to talk about all of that, I'm
simply going to present to you Susan's story and you
can decide things for yourself and do your old research.
Susan and that's not her real name. Her story came

(26:58):
to me from beyond the grave, and by that I
mean that her account was shared with me from Dave,
who described himself as her lifelong partner and best friend,
and that he just felt that it was important to
share her story finally with the world. Susan grew up

(27:18):
not too far from the western end of the South
Mountains and she was the daughter of a mechanic, the
daughter of a stay at home arm They had a
small farm there where they raised vegetable crops, raised hogs
and chickens. She was particularly proud that her maternal grandmother
was of Cherokee descent. Her father's people had deep roots

(27:40):
in the area where she grew up and now Susan
was an only child and she attended U and C.
Chapel Hill. Her father passed away while she was studying
there at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and she
graduated and she elected to stay there, and she gained
infloyment there in the Chapel Hill area and would come
home to visit. But then and in the mid nineteen nineties,

(28:01):
her mother passed away so, of course Susan came home
to make the arrangements and to do all the things
associated with that, and to bury her mother. She found
herself traveling back and forth on the weekends between Chapel
Hill and her childhood home, and she even began to
heavily consider relocating and coming back and living in the
childhood hole. She found that she was coming back home

(28:24):
because she just simply felt closer to her father and
her mother when she was there in the childhood Hole.
She developed the habit on the weekends that she would
stay of sitting on the back screen and porch, sipping coffee,
turning her reading light on, and reading on the back porch,
getting lost in her thoughts as she peered off in
the distance at the mountains. It was the time of

(28:46):
peace for her until one Saturday night in late summer,
as she sat on the back porch reading the sun
had just gone down. She looked off in the distance
and movement caught her.

Speaker 1 (28:57):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
Coming from the wooded area down the hill was silhouettes
walking in the line, shoulder to shoulder. She said, at
first she didn't feel anything other than curiosity that they
apparently had emerged from the woods. And she was not
alarmed in the least. She quickly surmised that the four
figures were children, and then her curiosity was aroused. So

(29:21):
why would these children be emerging from woods that border
on one hundred thousand acres of wilderness? Were they lost?
Were they simply out playing? She was concerned, but not alarmed.
As the children came closer, Susan rose up out of
her chair and was going to unlatch the latch on
the screen door to greet the children. But, as she

(29:42):
reported to Dave, she was suddenly overcome by a panicked feeling,
by a feeling of danger, a feeling of unexplained fear.
She paused and lowered her hand back now and left
the door latched. She was very aware, as she reports,
she was acutely aware that the only thing this separated
her from the source of this panicked feeling, of this

(30:04):
unexplained fear was the screen mesh on that back porch door.
Stay tuned for morseasquatch hot to see We'll be right back.
After these messages, not understanding why, she was getting ready
to turn to retreat into the house, But just as

(30:25):
she began to turn, she heard a child's voice say,
Miss Susan, we need your help. And the voice of
the child was odd. It had an echo in quality
to it, almost a metallic twang. It sounded, in her
words to her friend, a otherworldly and she thought, how
do these children know my name? And as she just

(30:47):
stood there in a stupor more or less again, the
child said, Miss Susan, you must help us. All the
while these children were getting closer and closer to the
back door of her screen and porch. Miss Susan, we
need you. It was the same voice. It turned out.
The one talking turned out to be the tallest of
these children, and it appeared that it was a boy

(31:10):
somewhere in the age of twelve to thirteen years old.
And they came within just a few feet from the
steps of the back porch, and Susan was barely able
to say what can I do to help you? Are
you okay? And that the mail figure said we need
to come in. Will you give us entry. She found

(31:32):
the wording to be uncanny and very strange, especially coming
out of the mouth of a twelve or thirteen year
old kid. Susan said, do you need me to call
your parents? Do you need me to call the police,
and the boy said, Miss Susan, we do not need
the sheriff. You were able to help us, let us

(31:53):
come in. By then, the four children were directly at
the back door, not offering to try to open the door,
but just standing there, right at the very base of
those couple of small steps. The first visual detail she
noticed was the odd dress of these children. They were
dressed like children of an older time. It put her

(32:14):
in mind of black and white photographs that she seen
from the early nineteen hundreds. The clothing appeared to be
all gray toned, except for the one female child in
the group, and oddly enough, the female child was wearing
baggy overalls with a gray shirt underneath a shirt that

(32:34):
appeared gray that had a floral pattern on it. When
the children looked up at her to make eye contact,
that she saw the thing that haunted her to the
very day she died. As they looked up, she said
that all she saw was soulless black eyes, almost as
if they didn't have any eyes at all, but just

(32:55):
black holes where their eyes should be. She said, every
fiber of her being said run, every fibear of her
being screened danger and in the conversation. She would own
and off again, feel stunned, unable to move, not sure
what to do, she finally summoned up the stretch to say, no, children,
you stay there. Uncommon the sheriff and all went quiet.

(33:17):
The children just stared at her, and she was fixated
on their eyes. And then the female of the group,
the one with the oversized baggy overalls, hung her head
downward as though she was going to look at the ground,
but then seemed to have started sobbing, and her shoulders
were heaving, and her head was bouncing up and down
a little bit, and she finally put her face in

(33:37):
her hands. But just as Susan was about to be
moved with pity and compassion, it became evident that this
little girl was not sobbing, but rather she was laughing
and giggling in such a way that Susan felt the
hairs on the back of her neck standing up, and
she just wanted to run away but cutting and then

(33:58):
something happened that horrified and Susan and stayed in her
nightmares until the very day that she died. This female
child stopped everything and suddenly looked back up at her,
and her mouth was moving, but out of her mouth
Susan heard her deceased mother's voice saying, Susan, let these
children have shelter. Susan, do it, Susan, do it. Susan

(34:22):
just felt like she was completely helpless, but somehow she
managed to scream leave now, leave now. And she was
getting ready to turn away and walk back into the house.
And the oldest boy said, your mother wouldn't help us either,
but you do not know what she knew, Susan. And
then these four entities, these four black eyed children, turned

(34:47):
in unison and began to walk away, back toward the woods,
into the darkness, and disappeared altogether. Susan at that very moment,
she didn't call the police. She didn't do anything. She
gathered a few things, her overnight bag and her keys
in her purse, and she left and drove non stopped
back to Chapel Hill. She woke up her best friend,

(35:08):
her life on partner, Dave, and shared with him what
had happened. And then the next day she talked more
about it and described it more in detail, and Dave
pitched the idea of speaking with Susan's mother's best friend,
who were going to call Gwynn, and so that next
weekend they drove back, but they did not stay in
Susan's shild at home. They got a motel. They met

(35:30):
with Gwynn and they had coffee and she described to
Gwinn what happened. Gwinn didn't appear shocked, she didn't appear surprised,
but she said, Susan, after your father died, the very
same thing happened to your mother, same scenario. They appeared
out out of those woods. Your mother saw them coming
through the backyard as she stood at the kitchen window

(35:51):
doing her evening dishes. She said, Susan, your mother didn't
have very little conversation with him, because she said that
she felt immediately that she was dealing with demonic entities.
She invoked the name of Jesus and ordered them to leave,
and they did indeed leave. Gwynn said, I know a
little bit about this, and I know they come at
people when they're vulnerable, when they're grieving, when they're having

(36:14):
tough times in their life. They came for your mother
when your father died, and they came for you when
your mother died. And Gwynn said, we'll talk more about
it later. If you decide to move back here. Susan
and Day went back to Chapel Hill, and then the
next weekend came back and by then Susan had made
her decision. They cleaned the house out and the house
set empty for years. Dave said Susan was never the

(36:37):
same after that. He tried to get her to go
to Counseley. He tried to get her to go seek
the help of a preacher, but she wouldn't do anything.
After a few months, Susan simply refused to talk about
it whatsoever in any way, shape or form, with Day
or Gwen or anyone else. She passed away a few
years later in her sleep at a young age, and
Dave asked me not to share the circumstances of her passing.

(37:00):
In all certainly honor of that, But Dave said that
he felt, although he wasn't there hearing her story and
seeing the fear in her eyes, and hearing the anxiety
in her voice and the panic in her voice as
she told the story to him several times, that it
tortured her and that it tortured him. So with that,

(37:22):
I'll say, I pray that none of you ever have
to deal with anything like that whatsoever. I appreciate you
all so very much, and God bless you
