(00:53):
Cotter. This is episode sixty five. If you're listening to it's a subspace
radio network on iHeartRadio for sci fictionRadio. We have joined here with a
guest today. He is a sciencefiction enthusiast and video game enthusiast. His
name is Frank Reed. Frank, how are you doing today, sir?
I'm doing well, Ewen. Howare you tonight? Doing pretty good?
It's glad to have you a kindof late notice, but good notice.
I'll say, yeah, Hey,better late than never, that's what they

(01:15):
say. Yes, indeed, youdo a lot of stuff. You're very
big in the video games and allthe all that. Can you talk a
little about what you've been playing recently? And some of the stuff you've got
going on. Recently, I've beeninto Final Fantasy seven remake. Dude,
I think I showed you that onetoo. It's just absolutely mind blowing,
the remake of it. I didplay through the original Final Final Fantasy seven

(01:37):
back, yes, because I wasin high school then, probably back in
ninety nine or so, two thousandsomewhere in there. That's one game I've
been playing through. Absolutely love it. The gameplay hasn't changed any they haven't
you know, changed the AI oranything. They've just absolutely made it a
beautiful ess. First person looks gorgeous. Yeah, it is gorgeous. I've

(01:57):
been playing through that, playing througha few year old Zelda's I just recently
got. Uh yeah, yeah,so I've been playing that, been playing
the original Mega Man, going back, hitting up some retro games. Uh.
I picked up a few more cartridgesfor my ne e s I got,
which I did trade a long timeago. Hey, I traded it.

(02:20):
Rampage. I always liked that game. Double Dribble, uh Super Mario
two. I was lacking that, believe it or not. In Marble madness.
Uh. So there's a over inFlorida. There's a retro game score.
They sell uh uh Saga, SegaCD, game Boy, uh,
Super Nintendo, Nintendo things like that. So those you know, I rented

(02:42):
as a kid, which like evento this day, they stuck with me,
and I always just wanted to goback and get them one day if
I could. And now that I'man adult can afford to do what I
want, I went back and bottom. So what's that place called in Florida?
You said, Oh, man,it's in Pensacola. It's uh,
what's your game versus what it's called? If you can put a leak up

(03:05):
later, I can get it tohim, I shout out, right now,
Yeah, those guys are super helpful, super awesome. Uh. I
ended up finding I think to rockthe remake sixty four one or which one?
Yeah, well so it's a remakefor the Switch. Yeah. So
I found that they ended up havingone of the one of the pro controllers
over there, which if you've gotbig hands, yeah you're one of those.

(03:30):
Uh so yeah, really really greatplace, man, good guys to
work with. They've got everything setup. You can test the games before
you before you buy them and leavewith them. Rick Us scored this uh
wooden game Boy from one of thestores down on the I know, I'm
so jelly of that man. Thatis that is gorgeous. I like it.
You're playing some other games. Waswell, you're talking about some of

(03:52):
the other games you mentioned before thebroadcast. Uh. Yeah, yeah,
I've been on Killing Floor two fora while all with some friends. I'm
a huge zombie fan. I mean, it really doesn't get much more sci
fi than zombies. You know,in my opinion, I love zombie games.
I've been playing that, uh,Modern Warfare three Zombies, which they've
they've got a lot of modifications andthings they are going to be changing and

(04:15):
and doing with it. They've I'veeven been told they're you know, it's
leaked out that they've got a personversus person coming out in Zombie Mode,
so which right now, Zombie Modeis kind of a mixture of different game
plays, but all the players worktogether. You don't work against each other,
which is good because you don't havethose people sitting there camping, which
gets annoyed. Yeah. But yeah, yeah, I know you had mentioned

(04:41):
you wanted to talk about the hthe AI and the games and things and
some of the stuff I've experienced, you know, had what you are go
ahead over what you were talking aboutearlier when before we started the broadcast.
So being a big you know,I grew up gaming and everything. Uh,
you know, some of my gamesystems either they got sold or whatever,
you know, throughout the years.I do luckily my parents, you
know, they kept my second gamegear, my originals. Yeah. Yeah,

(05:06):
So I'm missing PlayStation one through likePlayStation two in sixty four, a
few other systems that were in between. So I've kind of, you know,
obviously, in order to recapture thosedays. There's a lot of us
do when when we get older, and uh so, you know, I've
looked for those games. And Iwas a huge fan of Command and Conquered
on PC and PlayStation when it wasavailable on PlayStation. So I've got the

(05:31):
remakes of it, and everything isthrough Steam. So if you're into that,
you can find it on Steam. You can. It's all all of
the Commanded Conquerors. I think there'slike fifteen of them, all kind of
good stuff on Steaming. They gotthat portable game thing to the Steam Deck
or whatever. Yeah, the SteamDeck. Yeah, it's like a portable
PC. Yep, it sure is. And I've I've actually got a chance
to play one. It is alot of fun right now. It doesn't

(05:54):
handle every game that they have onSteam, but it does have the majority
of them. Do you have afriend have one of those or something you
played with where you have to Yeah. I sat down with it for a
couple hours one time at his house, you know, after dinner and uh,
you know, let the let thewives hang out. And I got
to spend a couple of hours withit. And he was on a PC
playing and uh, try that outyet, I've not tried it. Has

(06:15):
it run smooth? Those are likeglitchy or how does it work? No,
it's it's smooth. It's it's kindof like a like a mid build
PC. I'm not sure the exactspecs on it. I mean, like
I said, I'd have to lookit up. I you know, I've
got a switch and you know,I've got an alien ware, which is
what I'm using right now. Soif I want to play, yeah,
you know, I use that. But uh computer, Yeah, it's well

(06:36):
built, right, it's well built. I can run you know, Flight
sims and Call of Duty, wideopen, full graphics, and I don't
get any kind of glitches or anything. I have fans underneath it. Then
I turned the fans on, uh, on high whenever I play, so
it stays pretty cool. Now we'llheat the whole room. We'll do that.
Yeah. But other than using it, now, how's it is?

(06:58):
Used it? How is it going? Well? How's it going now?
Oh? It's perfect, man,I mean it. This is probably not
even stretching its legs in the inthe least. So but but yeah,
so the AI when I found someof these new games, they're well not
new, but the retro games.Uh, they're coming out with their they're
called remakes. We we know, you know. Some of them like Modal
Phantasy seven, which beautiful, beautifuljob the game is. It plays just

(07:19):
like it did back in the day. Took me back to my teenage years,
back in high school working at agrocery store. Savement up to buy
the thing. Get this beautiful youknow PC box with four disc in it.
Just gorgeous, like super happy withit. Uh you know. But
there's there's other games. I've goneback to, the Commanding Conquers one of
them. They it's something with theAI has changed completely. They've they've adapted

(07:42):
it to this modern AI system thatthey're you know, not the AI that
they're trying to use like with BostonDynamics or whatever. They're you know,
not little robo dog stuff, butbullshit dogs. He's my friends. Yeah,
yeah, some of these these uhout with with with the adaptive AI,
so to speak, Which is fine. I mean, you know,

(08:05):
I enjoy those games. I playthose games. I buy those games.
I thoroughly play, you know, thoroughly enjoy my playing with my friends.
But you know, if I gobuy an older game, which that's why
I like the cartridges because I don'tdownload, Yeah, yeah, it doesn't
change. It is what it is. If it's not hooked to the internet
and it's a cartridge, it willnot change. Whereas some of these other

(08:26):
games that I'm getting there their downloadsthrough like Steam. Uh. That the
AI is totally different. And andwhen I say totally different, you know
I go in it and you andI know what play in the original Mario
Brothers is like what the AI islike what the enemies are going to do.
It's a certain feeling you get,you know, it's it's that's why
you get it. It's to reallythe game. Yeah, And so what

(08:50):
they've done they've added adaptive AI andthings into it. Uh, and it
changes the game completely. It doesn'tmatter, you know. I've found that
on some of these games, itdoesn't matter what skill setting you put it
on. You can put on easy, medium, hard or you know,
unbelievable hard or whatever. Uh,it pretty much stays the same. And
it's it's aggravating. It changes thegameplay. Uh, it makes it hard

(09:13):
to get anywhere in the game.Like all the you know, tactics you
used to use, nothing works anymore. You know, it's it's uh,
it's not as fun, and tome, it kind of takes away from
what the game was. You know. I think that there should be an
option, you know, if theydo want to make these games that way,
at least tell people for sure andmake an option in the settings where

(09:35):
it's like, hey, do youwant this new AI or do you want
to play the retro game which settingor something like that. Yeah, I
would enjoy both, but I mean, you know the fact that I feel
like it's kind of forced. It'skind of like when when I won't hardport
it too much. It's kind oflike when when Microsoft bought out the Call
of Duty part of it, thatfranchise you know with like Activision and stuff's.

(09:56):
Activision is one of the best companies. I mean, as far as
Nintendo back in the any es days, the best games you could buy.
I think The Battle I think itis even under that. Yeah, I
think they're under that label. There. There's some uh space games, Galaxy
five thousand or whatever it is.I know what you're talking about. That

(10:18):
was a great game. Yeah, yeah, I have that. Man,
I would never get into that game. It's still this day. I mean,
it's it's amazing and to see thathappen, you know, it's kind
of kind of sad, uh becauseit's kind of like the end of an
era. You know, we allhate these things. Uh. Do you
ever Star Trek Activision First person Shooter? I have not yet, but I
do have that. I have thaton believes I believe. Okay, I

(10:43):
have to check that out. Ihave to check that out. But yeah,
so whatever. The new Call ofDuty came out mon War for three.
They even the the one previous toit. They started with the AI
monitoring the chats and things. Butyou always rated. They keep in mind
the game is rated mature, justlike Grand Theft Auto and other games.

(11:05):
Uh, you know, that theyhave high violence content, blood, gore,
cussing, you know, things likethat drug use, tobacco, use
alcohol, use all these things youknow we have gives us the salute,
or maybe I think it's a salute. It's a salute. I believe our

(11:26):
beret might be a beret. Yeah, it is awesome, thank you.
But uh yeah, I noticed onceonce they took over, uh you know,
the blood and yours obviously still there. The game has a you know,
rating of mature for violence language,so to speak, cussing. Now
you go in there, if youcuss say certain things, they bang you

(11:48):
for fourteen days from group chat.Things like that. You know. It's
like I said, I don't wantto harp on it too much, but
I don't like the way that theAI is going in these games. I
mean, if you're gonna put thatmuch effort into it, the game better,
because by god, we all knowwe play it. I mean there's
glitches galore, you know. Imean, you've got disciples that are sitting
there twitching in mid air. You'vegot you know, zombies that walk through

(12:09):
walls, fall through the floor.I mean, how many times I've just
follow through a map. Yeah,if you're going to put effort into it,
put it into the game play, put it into the game, make
it better for the people that arepaying for it, making you rich,
you know, And that's the wayI see it. But you know,
putting effort into all these other things, it just seems like, you know,
kind of more of an infringement onwhat people are looking for in a

(12:31):
game, which is freedom. Youknow, I go to work all day,
it's a hard day at work orwhatever. I want to come home,
drink a beer, go into agame, virtual reality, you know,
do something different than my daily grind. I really don't want to go
there and be restricted as to whatI can do, right, you know,
so long as it's not harmful topeople. Yeah, you get the
retro games have kind of become likewildly popular now talking about retro this and

(12:56):
retro that. Where do you see, I know a lot of these systems
is now, like the Xbox andstuff, from becoming less and less physical
media. What do you see thelong term like like status over the next
five or ten years with the retrogaming phenomenon, you think it will continue
on even more since the physical media, well, I think it's gonna you
know, it's gonna raise the valueof the actual physical media, such as

(13:18):
your your old ness and things likethat. Uh. You know what I've
I've had some friends recently that broughtto my attention, and you know,
they've they've been around playing PlayStation andstuff long as I have. There,
you know, in their forties.Even there, they were back before I
was playing. You and I wereboth you know, born the same year,
so you know, before we wereborn, these guys were playing atarian
stuff and they're still gaming. Yeah, they you know, they were bringing

(13:41):
some attention that uh, the gamesthat they were, the retro games that
they were providing for free, andlike the PlayStation store now they're locked out
of really, so that's the problemwith these digital copies, you know,
Versus I could go back into myold old PlayStation games popping a disc.
There's nobody doing anything and stopping mefrom playing it. The physical meaning is

(14:03):
amazing, go and playing a milliontimes. There's no like adaptive AI and
it's physical so you can play whenever, even if the servers are down or
whatever in glitches or updates and amen. Yeah, that's it. And you
know the thing is, it's likeyou said that you can play it whenever.
You don't have a problem with anyanybody having to do updates or anything
to it. And you know thething is, they're still charging sixty nine
ninety nine a copy for games.True. You know, we're we're talking

(14:26):
about the new Rebocomp, which we'lltalk about here in a minute. But
uh, you know I was,I was really stoked about it, and
I go look at it. I'mlike, what is it like fifty nine
sixty nine dollars And I'm like,and it's a digital game, it's going
to have an updates glitches. Youknow. I feel like that they're even
releasing the games too early before they'refinished as a digital copy. Versus when
you release a physical copy, you'vegot to have it more complete, right,

(14:48):
If you're going to release that toyou know, a million copies of
it, it better, it betterbe legitimate. Versus if you go ahead
and sell a game on digital, well it may not be complete, but
we can update as the tom cops, right, you know. Yeah,
let's watch this rubocup a little bithere. You're talking about Oh yeah,
man, excellent game. The graphicsare amazing, and from what I've been

(15:09):
told, uh, it is betterthan the adaptation in twenty fourteen on us
Soil. Here's some of the gamehere in local news. A new crime
wave that is sweeping Detroit. Theydecided to get rid of the body.
Jenkins is the only one who couldhave done it. Here. It's so

(15:33):
realistic. Well, we're that that'sgreat, man, very realistic game.
Yeah. Yeah, I was watchingwatching some some reviews and stuff on it
earlier. Just uh, what aboutIndiana Jones game. You've seen it,
heard about that or see anything aboutthat? Yes, that looks incredible.

(15:56):
That that does look incredible. Wedo have some pretty incredible games coming out
actually, that that being one ofthem for sure. You know, we've
got Killing four three is gonna comeout this year, which you know Killing
four two is a very popular gameand even to this day, uh,
six player co op and multiplayer.Uh, many different game modes. You
can play survival against your hordes ofzombies. Uh boss mode where you fight

(16:19):
the bosses, the matriarch, thepatriarch, doctor Hans doctor. Yes,
yes, uh, you know it'swhich I think I showed you that game,
you know, and you're kind ofimpressed with it. It's kind of
one that slid under the radar fora lot of people. Zombies, the
little little crawlers. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, we've got those

(16:41):
manglers. You got the all kindsof different different zombies in that game.
Well, it's been a really goodgame. It's kind of a purest game.
You you know, team up withyour buddies or team up against them.
You can actually play as the zombiesyourself. Uh. At the end
of the match, will end upas a boss and then end up fighting
your friends, which are humans.Uh. They've got I think eight or

(17:02):
ten different classes. You can upgradeyour weapons, pick different weapons, tons
of weapons to pick from that game. You can Them's tons of fun.
It's just a really really good game. It's solid. It's a very good,
solid game. Uh, doesn't reallyglitch or anything like that. Well,
the good thing is they're going tokeep continue using the Unreal engine,
which if anybody knows about the UnrealEngine, you can go back to I

(17:25):
think it's ninety eight or so theoriginal unrel came out, which was just
mind boggling for a game, justabsolutely mind boggling. Yeah, the religion
is actually what they use now withthese o lead walls for the Mandalorian and
the soaka and stuff like that tomake them look like they're in space or
the planets or whatever thing they're doing. Huh right, it's pretty cool.

(17:52):
Yeah, they use the Unreal Engine. They're render all that stuff. Yes,
yes, yeah, they're on UnrealEngine five now it's on the fifth
uh, the fifth edition of it. There's hardware. I mean, it's
so popular, it's so uh userfriendly and everything. They've got hardware that
has developed strictly just to run thatengine. There you go, there's there's
the original here. Before Unreal wasa an engine, it was it was

(18:14):
a game that ran the Unreal Engine. It was actually called Unreal. Yeah,
the Unreal a Real game was thefull game using the engine of it.
This was this what this is righthere, the walkthrough. Yeah,
epic games. Yeah, this wasback in like ninety eight or so ninety
nine, possibly somewhere in there.Uh, which for that time in PC
gaming, there wasn't a whole lotof PCs that would keep up with it.
You pretty much had to go getbuild yourself a new tower if you

(18:38):
really wanted to run this game onhigh settings. Uh. You know this
was back when three d FX wasaround, you know. Uh, so
you had Direct three D and youhad three dfs. Uh. Three FX
to me was one of the besthardware drivers or hardware uh companies for uh
Uh. I would say that thethree D uh cards, Uh, they're

(19:00):
They're unbelievable for their time. Iwent and checked later. I think I
shared you with you that years laterafter I you know, I didn't hear
anything out of those. I thinkit was the you had the three DFX,
the Voodoo too, or the VoodooYeah, those were amazing graphics cards.
I went back years later just outof curiosity to look up the three

(19:23):
DFS company. Their their website hadbeen defaced and they were out of business.
I was. I was kind ofsad about it. But you know,
now you've got in video and thingslike that that are just, you
know, uh, absolutely mind bogglingwhat those can do. As far as
hardware and pretty much the most advancedsoftware we have now they can run flawlessly.
So you mentioned networking games with playingwith your buddies. Like when I

(19:47):
was a kid, I got school, even we had our computer lab and
our computer professor had really connected allthe computers. In the multiplayer mode.
You could play stuff like Duke Nukemthree D and Shadow Warrior and Quake and
all the goodness. Yeah, it'sa lot of fun, you know,
when you get to do the multiplayerjazz. Absolutely, that's very cool.

(20:07):
I can remember. I can rememberback of Oregon Trail back LEAs Larry Man.
That's right abound that time. Yeah, you have got a squirrel.
You can live for fifteen more minutes. It has died of dysentery. Oh
darn. Yeah, that was amazing. But uh yeah, I mean it's

(20:30):
the the Unreal engine has come sofar, I mean, and so uh
the the new Killing four three isgoing to be based off of that engine.
It's going to run that engine. So it's gonna be an absolutely beautiful
game from what I've been what I'veread as far as the most up to
date information on the game. Uh. The Trader Pod is still going to
be where you go to upgrade yourweapons and buy new ones. Uh.

(20:52):
It's still going to offer six playerco op uh and multiplayers so you can
play with your friends, and it'sgoing to maintain all the same games.
The only thing different is you're goingto be playing is a group of mercenaries,
not as the members of the companylike it used to be. I
won't go to too many too manydetails about that. I'll kind of leave

(21:12):
that to you know, people tofigure out on their own way as they
play it. I don't know aboutthe bosses. That's kind of kind of
my question if it's going to stillhave the Matriarch, the patriarch and uh,
you know doctor Hans or you knowwhat's going on with that. So
supposedly some of the characters may havebeen captured by doctor Hans and then experimented
on. Uh, I don't know. You know, there's all kinds of

(21:33):
rumors out there about you know, what could have possibly happened or what's transpired
since Killing four two. Yeah,so that that's this one title I'm really
looking forward to, uh, sinceI think Killing four two just kind of
uh, it was overlooked. Imean, it was just a fantastic title
and it was kind of overlooked. And Killing for three I think is really
gonna grab people's attention and say, hey, look, you know, this
is a good game. Hopefully charactersintroduced some more even different ones. Yes,

(21:57):
yeah, absolutely, And I knowyou're super excited about this. I
see your side back there Star WarsOutlaws. Yeah, I'm excited to worry
about that. Right, great openplayer, open world, right, yeah,
open world, Star Wars. Ifyou want to go to Dagoba,
Tatooine, or you know, whereveryou want to go, you should be
able to go there. So I'veonly seen a little bit of gameplay from

(22:18):
it. My thing is, ifthey can capture the magic of Jedi Night
two from back in the day,if they can do that and make it
open world. You know, obviouslyit's going to have the Disney touch on
it or whatever now, but ifthey can recapture that and maintain some of
the action of the playability, andobviously you know the characters are going to

(22:41):
be there. I think this isgoing to be a fantastic title. I
think it's gouna be well worth thewait, especially if you're a Star Wars
fan, like I know you are, and I know I know I am
myself. Yes, indeed, we'vegot this trailer here for the gameplay trailer.
Watch what what what kind of stuffI think you said it was open
open world this game. What kindof stuff you maybe hoping planets or kind

(23:02):
of like No Man's Sky or whatkind of stuff you look for doing?
Yeah, so you'll you'll be ableto go from planet to planet, or
you know, star system to starsystem with different vehicles and stuff, some
of them new, some of themthat you'll recognize. They've got, you
know, these different little speeder bytesand things. I think that's one thing
that she has on the main characters. But uh yeah, I mean it's

(23:26):
basically you pretty much go anywhere,do what you need to do, do
what you want to do, gotalk to people. I'm not sure what
you know, obviously, what themissions are going to be in the game
or anything, or what the whatthe objectives or the goals are going to
be. I know it's going tohave some and obviously you'll be able to
upgrade things. I'm sure, soright, Yeah, the game looks absolutely
gorgeous. I haven't seen too muchof the game play. I saw whatsoever

(23:48):
is on YouTube, but the gamewhich is stunning. Yeah yeah, I
think yeah. I think the gameslike No Man Sky and what not have
led to this. You know,it put the odd and people's heads are
like, hey, what if wedo this? But it's Star Wars and
Starfield to the new Starfield game hasbecoming really popular with people like spaceships and

(24:08):
all kind of stuff and that jazz. Yeah, people are really jumping into
it. It's the creators. Imean these are creator type games. You
know, people jump into it.They can build things uploaded on the server
and use it. Why not forsure? And you also, you know,
being also in the sci fi andall that. You've got some sci
fi topic you mentioned before the showdifferent time. Yeah. Absolutely, So

(24:29):
you told me about the Expanse.I'd seen the video game obviously, definitely
had seen that. I had notseen the series, believe it or not.
Yeah, until you told me,I didn't even know. I knew
it was a game, you know, I checked it out with it,
but once I watched the series,I was absolutely blown away. I mean,

(24:52):
I'm a I'm a huge fan ofStar Wars, even Red Dwarf Old
British comedy. It's you know,it brings you back to like the coldness
of space is what I could say, because you are alone, you're in
the coldness of space. You you'vegot you know, these objectives and things
that you've got to do to keepthe ship going and whatnot, and then
you have enemies that come up thatoutgun you, and it's kind of like

(25:17):
it brings you back to like aStar Trek kind of a feel you're just
in deep space. Uh, youknow so far. I mean I've been
through a couple of episodes so farsince you've told me, you know,
I've watched one or two a weeknow. I definitely enjoy the series.
I really appreciate you introducing me toit. This is the Telltale game based
on the series. Here you havethe original voice lady in the voice for

(25:40):
this character. It's amazing. Butthe series is absolutely stunning. Like that.
Have you got into some of thespace battles yet, just one where
the actual main ship that was thehardest thing that are holding the ice or
whatever on it? Yeah? Yeah, so episode the Big Mormon Space Station.

(26:00):
Yeah yeah, well it was youknow when they go to the the
dead ship that you know had thehole in it or whatever. It was
like it brought me back to likelike Space Odyssey, Star Trek, Red
Dwarf, just your you're in spaceand you know there's there's no help.
Basically, you gotta you gotta door die. And I like that.
It's uh it's hard science to thetechnology. Yeah yeah, yeah, they

(26:25):
do. They get into the scienceof it, and that I think it
adds a certain suspense to it thatthat nothing else but sci Fi can provide,
for sure. And you also weretalking about before the broadcast and New
Doom too, and the old DuneLynch movies as well as all that.
Yeah, you have the old BrianHerbert Frank Herbert books and stuff that they
got. I showed you those.Uh, I've ever got the series that

(26:47):
was on the Sci Fi Channel whatnot. Yeah, yeah, a lot of
people are against it, but youknow, it is what it is.
Just take it for what it isand what it's supposed to be, not
the necessarily the video quality back then. But uh, you know, I've
got the game for segacyd which staystrue to the original Dune. You know,
you're in a thornicopter trying to harvestspice and deal with sandworms and harconians

(27:07):
and and all these kind of thingsDune. So I watched the New Dune
when it came out, which which, forgive me if I pronounce is his
name wrong? I think it's it'sTimothy shall met or chaw May. I
did not. I completely kind ofunderestimated him the first time I saw it.
You know, obviously I'm familiar withJason Momoa and and people like that.

(27:32):
But you know, the second timeI watched it, I put it
on, I bought it, boughtthe movie, put it on. It's
on four k Ultra, threw iton my seventy inch and I absolutely just
was blown away as at at Timothyas an actor, how he interacted with
you know, Jason Momoa, someof the other people. I think he
brought up a couple of scenes.Absolutely blown away. I'm really really enjoying

(27:56):
the new one. I didn't thinkI would enjoy it as much because most
of the time you remake something afterfifty years or forty years, and it's
not gonna go right. It justyou know, it doesn't relate to modern
times. But you know, withthe four k Ultra and the way they
shot it, with the cinematic scenesand you know, the Harconians coming in
on their ships and all this,I mean, it was just a gorgeous
movie. Absolutely gorgeous movie. Evenyou know Timothy's acting, you know,

(28:19):
he stuck his hand in the boxwith the yes, I mean just the
acting and stuff, his facial expressions, everything. I mean, it captured
the original movie one hundred and tenpercent. Uh. The second one.
You know, it looks like, you know, they're gonna be riding the
sandworms. I've watched a couple oftrailers. It looks like it's gonna be
super exciting. Man. I cannotwait for that to come out. And

(28:41):
also, you played Wonka. Yes, yeah, I've yet to see that
one, but I really will wantto see I haven't been able to breakaway
yet to see him. I supposeyou've heard some good things about it people.
Yeah, I mean I think it'sa fantastic actor. I mean,
that just shows his versatility right there. I mean, I'll have to check
that out. But but yeah,I hate you know, Jason mcmo got

(29:03):
knocked out the first one, butyou know they took him out. I
was kind of like, come on, man, let's go Aquaman. I
went and saw the new Aqua Manthe other day. I was that was
one to see that too. Igot to see that. I want to
see yesterday. Fantastic good. David'sgoing to be back though, you know
he fell down the pit. I'mjust saying, maybe it's spoiler for some
people hadn't seen him. He's kindof back. He didn't I didn't,
he didn't die. I'm pretty sure. So there's gonna looks amazing in that

(29:26):
movie, man, like the wholegot the tried it the other tried it
on. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Vigils were unbelievable. I mean,
it's uh, it's one of thosemovies that once you started and you
don't take your eyes off of it, you miss something like it was.
It was jam packed first well worthyou know, well worth the time to
sit there and watch. You've seenin the other side fi movie joking,

(29:48):
only got the Ghostbusters, Frozen Empire, You've got Doom too. And I
didn't see the trailer you're telling meabout the New Ghostbusters. I didn't watch
the trailer. Man, it lookslike you watched The Afterlife yet I have
not. I have not. Isaw the trailer to the New And yeah,
you know the thing is that wejust kind of slipped under the radar.
For me, I just didn't Ijust didn't hear enough about it or

(30:08):
anything. And and now I'm goingback and watching some of these things,
and I'm like, why didn't Isee this before? You know, I
wish there was more exposure to scifi. Honestly, a lot of good
modes. What about that? Godsof Minus one. Have you seen that?
I have not. I haven't seenthat one. I watched Rebel Moon.
We got a lot of content onthat on the site, but it
wasn't too bad. Okay. Yeah, I've been I've been going back the

(30:30):
uh one through six on Blu Rayand then all the other ones on four
K. So I've been going backthrough them. Uh no, no Star
Wars. Oh sorry, yeah, episode one through six and then going back
and uh I've got you know, like Rogue one and and Solo and all
that on four K Ultra and I'vebeen going back and just rewatching the whole

(30:52):
series. Yeah. Star Wars isawesome, man. Yeah. Gaming is
my first love, so you knowevery everything else have I if I if
I get tired of gaming, andthen I'll pop in movies. So that's
how I do Star Wars games. There's been so many. You got out
lawns this kind of the next youget to play what's the one I saw
Jedi Survived following the Order Falling.Yeah, fantastic, really good games.

(31:17):
Caylkest. Yeah, I even wentback the other day. Uh. They've
got a PlayStation store now you canget it. It's it's off PlayStation one.
I believe where you can be aat a t or Speeder or Boba
Fett. It's like a twisted metalversion of Star Wars bomb Bad Racing.
Man, it's not not the notthe racing or the Potter the pod Racers.

(31:41):
I love it. I've got potRacer on on switch and I've got
Star Wars Commander on switch to uhthe it is it's oh, I can't
remember the name. It's uh,it's Star Wars Bombad Racing. I believe.
In No, it's not a racinggame. It's it's like it's it's
like twisted metal, but it's StarWars. You're just in a big arena

(32:02):
and you fight each other to thedeath, and you got different vehicles.
You got speeders and and uh,I want to say, there's a there's
a rain corps running around like killingpeople. Yeah, it'll pick you up
and throw you across the screen.I mean it's it's incredible, Like it's
more like Mario Kirk the one inBombed By Racing, right, right,
Okay, Okay, so I haven'tseen that one. It's a good some

(32:23):
of that. Yeah. Yeah,I really liked the Star Wars games that
were on you know, in sixtyfour and whatnot. Those were really good
games. Uh, Pod Racer wasamazing, and then the Jedi Knights are
still my favorite, you know tothis day. I mean that takes me
back from my childhood. Obviously. One of the coolest games that I always

(32:45):
liked was for the in sixty fourwas the Star Wars Shadow of the Shadow
of the Empire. Yes, itwas amazing. Yeah, I I there
was an unlock you could do andyou could go to the final mint when
you're flying around the uh the starDestroyer, and you could either be an
x Wing or a tie Fighter. There was a couple of different little hacks,

(33:07):
and I cannot tell you how manytimes I would just play that for
hours and fly around and shoot things. Yeah, that was it. Yet
there it is right there, absolutelyincredible. Get inside of an ats T.
Yeah, Dash Ring guard Man.There is some great game right there,
man. Yeah, some of thebest best Lucas arts awesome ever man,

(33:30):
yep, really cool. What aboutwhat other games? And there's some
other ones like battle Front, Battlefront, Yeah, Stars Battlefront, I've got
those. They're they're pretty good.I've played through them a good bit.
I've put some time in on them, you know, I just I don't
know. They they work. They'regood games. I mean, if you're
a Star Wars fan, you'll appreciateit. There's something in there for Star

(33:51):
Wars fans. I don't think ifyou're just you know, if you play
Ace Combat seven and you're into Callof Duty and things like that, I
don't think you'll appreciate it as muchas like a Star Wars fan. But
I do think there's a little somethingin there for everybody. Right. What
about the Star Trek multiplayer online game? You got the chance to play that.
It's been around for I just Ijust downloaded one the other day.

(34:12):
It was a Star Trek something BridgeBridge the simulator. Yeah, yeah,
yeah, just just downloaded that.I haven't even checked it out yet,
especially there's a day or two ago. I went ahead and uploaded it h
or to my hard drive with thePS five I've got. I've got an
external hard drive that's almost full nowtoo. So I think I have two

(34:35):
games now, great Star Trek gamesMan from PC to retro to uh the
twenty fifth anniversary any skame was reallygood as well, and Star Trek Judgment
Rights. That was one for thecomputer something like that. Uh, there's
that one, and there's a tS one of deep there's Deep Space nine
games. And if you mailed awayyou got a Captain Cisco action figure.

(34:57):
Okay, Genesis, Yeah, heplays Francisco. That's a cool one.
I forget. The name is likesome title of it. There's even a
kingon game. Are you only playsKlingons? I made a board game.
It's only his borg and the guythat does the voice of Q hosts the
game. Okay, okay, lancesin the game. That's pretty dope.
There's a lot of But one ofthe coolest ones that I like Star Trek

(35:22):
related is this and I believe thisyear is the fifth anniversary of this bad
boy here. It's called Star TrekFleet Command by scopellycopoly Or. I think
the name of the company is somethinglike that out of Ireland, and they
make the most accurate looking, awesomeStar Trek game for like it's like I

(35:45):
kind of like a it's a mobilegame and it's on PC as well.
Whether you get your fleet, youcan fly around the galaxy and battle other
ships and it's got all kind ofcharacters. It's amazing. It's a open
kind of like flying around the spacecollect your credits, a level up,
you can be in ball with Captainthe card, all kinds of characters from

(36:07):
the board you name it man,Okay, okay, it's something I definitely
have to check out. Playing acouple of the couple of Star Trek games
over the years, they're definitely good. I want to say that's one of
my I think I may have checkedout. Yeah, there's a lot of
cool stuff over there in the gameworld, in the movie. Well,
look, any TV shows you beenwatching me on the expansion, any shows

(36:29):
you like to mention that you youwatched you when you're younger or anything cool
siph early. Uh, Well,I mean I was huge into you know,
Ninja Turtles, well, you knowStar Wars, things that would adapt
into video games, uh, likelike Men in Black a lot. Yeah,
I mean I'm one of the onlypeople I know I think that like

(36:51):
Red Dwarf. If anybody knows whatthat is, shout out there, you
go, yeah, yeah, shoutout if anybody knows what Red Dwarf is,
uh British comed it's so good thatit's uh so he's a lester,
he's he's uh a stow away onthe ship and uh, not a stow

(37:14):
away, but there their employees. The something happens that the ship gets maroon
for like a million years or whatever. The cat on the ship evolves into
a person cross between Cat Williams andPrince. And then there you've got his
cat running around. Uh that ispersonality, plus the other shipmate that he
had turns into a hologram. Uhyou know, after so long, and

(37:37):
and it's this whole his whole personalityinto a hologram. Uh. The ship's
computer is British and has an entireuh you know, personality of its own.
Uh pretty much every episode. It'slike a like a sitcom but sci
fi, and it's just, uh, it's a really long story. Uh.

(37:57):
They I want to say, they'veeven revamped it. Back in uh
eight or nineteen, wasn't it.They came out with some new episodes and
I think there was a movie ortwo released of it. I had the
books when I was a kid.Books and then I've got the original series
on on DVD. It'd be great, man. I think I'm on like

(38:22):
season two or something right now,so, uh, you know, I
haven't I haven't gone through all ofit. But it was one of my
favorite things as a kid. Itwas just the books were good. It's
just a different kind of comedy.I mean, you know, if you
like Austin Powers, throw that intoa sci fi space space setting and there
there you go. You know,it's the one liners are unbelievable. Some
unbelievable one liners in there. Whatabout the There's some other shows in there,

(38:45):
like From That Air and Beyond Them. But you've got stuff like Jerry
Anderson did that Space Precne was interesting. This his last show, and you
got like Lex to see Lex.Yes, yes, yeah, I remember
different planets. Every time they leavethe planet they blow it up with that
big spaceship like a yeah or whatever. Yeah, yeah, there's they had

(39:07):
got was it back the way backthen? Stargate SG one one great series?
Yeah? Who would have known thatStargate I mean that that you know
the movie, Uh, I don'teven think it was. It was super
highly rated. I liked it alot of them. I saw it in
theaters. It was one of thebigger Uh you know, who would have
thought it would have turned into sucha such a series that it was.

(39:29):
That one was on for like tenyears and everything. Yeah, it was
Showtime something like that. Then theyyeah, I think it was time.
Then they moved over the sci fi, which was another eight or nine years,
and then you had Target Atlantis withJason Momoa and then Joe Flanagan.

(39:50):
Then you had a Target Universe what'slast a few seasons, and of course
they had the movie. So it'sa lot of Target right there. Man.
Yeah, yeah, I mean itwould have thought that that movie would
have that, you know. Sure, And they talked about for a while
doing some more. Not to mentionthat, I said, the two spin
off movies, the Arc of Truthand I forget the name of the last
of the other one, like theoriginal movies they did for Starget as she

(40:14):
won. Okay, okay, justtalked to anybody about possibly have you played
the RoboCop game yet? No?No, I like I said, I
saw it on the PlayStation store, you know digital copies. I guess like
fifty nine or sixty nine dollars somethinglike that. I just haven't got it
yet. What I probably do,they'll they'll run a sale, you know,

(40:36):
twenty fifty percent off. I'll pickit up. Then I'm about to
I think two hundred and ninety threegames now that's just sitting your cloud for
your PlayStation. Five. That's justmy cloud and what's on the PlayStation that's
not the discs. You gotta getrid of one hundred and three hundred man,
Yeah, it's probably close to fourhundred with the disk. Wow.
Yeah, yeah, congratulations on that. So I was over at your house.

(40:59):
I was just scrolling and scrolling in. Some of the good games played.
That Turtles game was dudink right,Shredders Revenge you can't beat you remember
remember going to Pizza Hut and waitingon your pizza. There was the games
Shredder arcade game based in the likethe old carcade cabinets. Yeah. Yeah,
it's still still true to its form, you know. I mean nineteen

(41:21):
forty two. I went drove bythere when I was back in town and
they closed. It's gone. Yeahboarded yeah yeah. The block that on
on idos. Oh man. Theone I liked for an s was that
one. And they had one ofmy favorite actually was Ghostbusters three The Rise
of New Manhattan project or whatever it'scalled Manhattan. Yeah it was. That

(41:44):
was a great game. Man.They had Super Shredder You break the can
of Oz and turn Oh yeah, you're talking about Ninja Turtles. Yeah,
yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I want to say I have that
one on on on the actual uhBattle Toads versus Double one. Yeah yeah,
yes, that's nothing. Uh man, I've got the Switch, and

(42:05):
I want to say I have Ihave all the Street Fighters on there.
You know, I broke those out, go through those every once in a
while, play them. I wantto say that I do have Double Dragon.
Maybe it's on my maybe, yeah, I can't remember. Another good

(42:28):
one is Ninja Gaiden. Yeah thatwas That was a fantastic series. I
want to say I have some cartridgesand then digital copies as well, but
like or like Switch, Yeah yeah, any well an e S and Switch
combined. You know it's uh,I haven't I haven't found all the all

(42:49):
the cartridges I want. I dowant to go to some more retro stores
get a few more off, probablyabout like fifty five sixty actual Nintendo cartridges
for the E S nice like likehard copy they make like four or five
hundred something wow like that. Yeah, there's a lot, there's a lot.
You know, there was a lotof them that just mad to be
honest, worth mentioning. There's allthe hits of course they got. Yeah,

(43:09):
there's something like you're you're like vegetablesfighting each other and stuff. Mean,
Contra is awesome. Yeah, Contraand Supersede up, down, up,
down, left, right, left, right, A B, A
B select start that he gives youlike like infinite lives and all that or
whatever. Well, they made alittle mini Contra for a Contra operation Contra

(43:30):
for game Boy. I believe itContra Sports something like that. Yeah,
yeah, they they had that. Then they tried to make like a first
person or something on the Uh Idownloaded off the PlayStation store, and you
know, I mean, I couldn'ttell you how many of my Saturday mornings

(43:51):
were spent around those two games. But uh, this thing that they have
on the PlayStation store, this firstperson whatever it was, I'll just leave
it. It is what it is. You ever play, uh, Fortified
Zone or what's the other one. It's kind of like that, uh not
Contra, man, it's got alittle commando guy. It's kind of like

(44:13):
kind of like military. But FortifiedZone was amazing, Yes that one,
yes, yeah, years and FortifiedZone was amazing. That was for old
game Boy, that one. ButI loved that because you had like it
was looking forward and it was sidescrolling, so you could go in like
to the game and walking kind oflike looking down like Zelda, but didn't
we go forward like this And it'scrazy. It's kind of like an odd

(44:34):
third person it's weird like third personperspective, and you got the losses.
That was a cool game. Oneof the weirdest games I ever had for
the original game Boy was Faceball. You're basically a smiley faced emoji looking thing
and you're going three D like vectorbased, kind of like battle tank or
battle zone. Okay, yeah, that was a sick game. Man.

(44:55):
You shoot little balls and you canblow up the smiley faces that come up.
Okay, okay or whatever they are. Baseball another another game that,
uh, there's not much in thatgenre. Ace Combat seven. Okay.
I'm still finding people playing that.I get invites to it. I've got
a lot of friends on the PlayStationnetwork that you know, they've hit my

(45:16):
phone up all the time, oryou know, as soon as I get
on line, I've got invites toplay things. That's that's one of them.
I'm a big aviation fan myself. They're playing in some combat games,
so helicopters too. Yeah, it'sgraphically it's amazing. And you know,

(45:37):
so Ace Combat back in the daywas an arcade game. You sat in
had the yoke. Yeah, Ihad the yoke and everything in it,
and you're you could be like anF sixteen or whatever and they fly around.
It's one of my favorite things towaste about seventy five cents. And
you know I was battle Battle nomech Warrior where you get to have one
that would the machine was wise upreal high. You can it on the

(46:00):
perch and you could see like you'rewalking in a mach You could battle blot
the robot. Oh that's pretty cool. That's pretty cool. Yeah, this
is an arcade games. I meanback in the day we didn't realize what
we had, right that they hadlike Star Wars even had some to the
Star Wars arcade like you sit downthe pod Racer when you mentioned earlier.

(46:21):
Yeah, that one. You hadthe oh and that stuff like the Terminator
game arcade game, and then theSalvation was my favorite. And you have
the House of Corpses and then youhad that was the other one. Uh,
Virtue virtual cop or Virtual Cops somethinglike that. Yeah, you had
the cop game, and then youhad remember Time Crisis Tristis. That's the

(46:45):
one thing that was a fantastic gamethat you know, he had the little
gun and they had the little reuh you know for it for the time.
I mean, you know, twentyfive years ago. It was incredible.
Yeah. Those games are amazing, and you got they adapted. You
could get it for PlayStation one Ibelieve or PlayStation two that they had it.
Uh, you get the gun forit and yeah, yeah to what

(47:08):
was a good game when I firstgot my PlayStation one was Area fifty one.
It was a shot Yeah. Yeah, you go up in there there's
aliens and I get them blow themup. It's so good. It was
like your raids breaking in and breakingout of here. If I forget that.
Yeah, Teching three was the onlytechne with your ass. I have

(47:31):
to play that. Yeah yeah yeah, Sole Caliber Tech in Tomb Raider that
was a good game. Yeah yeah. Yeah. The older fighting games you
got metal Gear Solid. Yeah, well metal Gear Solid, I mean shoot
Man, yeah, pretty much. You get on Super Smash Brothers. You

(47:52):
can get all those characters now justyeah, I mean the Sole Caliber Tech
in Dead or a lot those aresome of your your your heavy combo games
back in the day. My alltime favorite though, is still Killer Instinct.
Yeah, Killer Instinct Gold on Nintendosixty four Reign Supreme. Now I
do have Killer Instinct on PC.Graphically it is, it is beautiful.

(48:15):
There's there's a few more characters andthings to it. Uh, the combos
that the combo game play, now, I don't know. The n sixty
four controller, in my opinion, was one of the best controllers ever put
out on amazing piece of equipment.Yeah, fantastic controller. That may have
had something to do with it,But it seems like to me the combo
system, you know, the newthe new Killer Instinct, it's not as

(48:39):
not as good as a one onKiller Instinct Gold on sixty four or the
one in the arcade back in theday kill I think it was Killer Instinct,
was it? Did they have onein two or was it something I
forget the name of arcade one?Yeah, I know gold was a n
sixty four specific thing. Uh,but I want to say one and two
even one in too. I remembergoing and playing those, you know,

(49:01):
I'd have a couple of dollars andchange, and man, I would look
forward to going to uh I thinkit was Pump Putt Golf. Then back
in mobile. Yeah, I usedto go there and put put it in
the Killer Instinct Machine and uh man, I love those games that the combos
you could come up with and thingsand I would you know, you could
read about them and you know oldGame Pro magazines or whatever, Gamer Game

(49:22):
Pro and Nintendo Power. Yeah yeah, I rememberize your your combos and then
go at it at the at thearcade right left. Yeah. Yeah,
I mean, you know with likesixty four hit combos and all kinds of
crazy stuff. But then then Iwould do some cool something cool, you
know, animality or fatality or whatever. Yeah, yeah, fatality, finish

(49:43):
him. It doesn't get much oryou know, yeah over here, he
throws the spear across the screen anddrags him back over as like the ones
that had that were the robots likeCyrax and yeah like tell a port or
have cannons in their stomachs or whatever. That's great. Yeah, oh that's

(50:04):
a really they had some bad womenin their TV like Sonia Blade or whatever.
Organ Yeah, dude, man, just I mean could just absolutely,
but yeah, they could they coulddo some some no that that was in
Uh, that was in Mortal Combat. Then organ was in uh killer instinct
I think, but that was itwas like you had Maya that was a

(50:27):
killer instinct that the Mayan girl, and she could do all the like uh
stuff, I mean jungle stuff topeople and man the things that now you
don't you don't see uh heroines invideo games like that. Now you know,
you don't see Laura Craft doing that, you know, finish him in
the some type of a wooden spearshoots through the person. You know.
It was just U There's a lota lot of different different time back then.

(50:51):
Well, wrapping up, we havea like one or so minutes left.
Is there any closing statements or thingsyou like to tell people to look
out for anything like that? Iguess, you know, look out for
some of the things that we're we'retalking about that are coming out. They
should be good games. If youknow, if zombies is your thing,
uh, check out you know Killingfour three that will be coming out.
You know. Always I'm always lookingat retro games now the Nintendo Switch,

(51:15):
they do release these limited runs.I was able to pick up Missed That's
the one I want to play.Yeah, I think I was showing you
that the other day. I thinkwhen we're in New Orleans, I showed
you that one. Uh yeah, yeah, So keep your eyes if you're
into retro games and stuff, lookon eBay. Uh stay abreast of you

(51:35):
know, what's going on as faras when they're releasing these these limited run
switch games. That's how I foundout about Turrock tur Rock two missed.
I got Panzer Dragon, which Ithink that was off the Sega Saturn or
something back in the day. Yeah. I mean just just really cool games
that that that were one offs thatthat you would want to have if you're
into that end of the retro stuff. And then you know, obviously the

(51:57):
newer games that are coming out, like you know, Rebo Cop just came
out. Uh, you know, check out new stuff coming out with new
Call of Duty Zombies are supposed tobe a lot of updates to that if
you're into that. And uh oh, and thank you so much for having
me on, Bro. It's it'sbeen a thank you. Frank. Were
about to bring you on some moreto bring talk about these games when some
of these games come out as well. Yeah, I'm about to keep gaming.
