Shortly. They're talking about all kindsof sci fi and video game goodies,
so stay tuned for people joining us. We will be coming to you from

(01:18):
be in Amarillo, Texas. Thisis our coming weekend, and the next
one after that, April twenty sixth, of the twenty eighth will be an
event called level Up. Here's levelUp. Level Up is an amazing event,
expects that usually attendees about one hundredthousand attendees or more. It's gonna
be in a beautiful Las Vegas,Nevada. Let's watch a little bit of

(01:38):
their trailer. Here looks amazing. It's what's amazing. You get the idea

(02:07):
of that it's coming an amazing event. Speaking of video games and awesomeness,
here is the one the only Frankread Frank you here us? What is
up my friend? How is itgoing with my friend? Man? Just

(02:27):
play a little bit of Breath ofthe Wild. Still trying to explore every
quarter of this game. I possiblycan't can't beat that, can't believe it.
I still haven't touched Tears of theKingdom yet. You got to get
there. I mean, you know, for whatever it's worth, but you
know, what's going on in yourworld. You've got a lot of games
and things we had talked about beforethe show and earlier on. She's been
kind of going through and everything wedo. There's a few that that really

(02:51):
caught my eye that I'm kind oflooking forward to. Its wonderful month of
May. You know, it's uhgetting close to uh summer. You know,
people, you know, especially inthe South, we're gonna be looking
to stay in during the dog days, probably find some good video games,
good movies to watch. So Igot a few here that on my watch
list personally that I'm interested in,one of which is it's called Europa.

(03:15):
H It's it's it's similar. Graphicsare similar to Breath of the Wild.
It's kind of like an anime cartoon, kind of goes to the shell type
look. They are basically, you'reyou're android. You're looking for like the
last human that that that exists. And uh, I thought it was thought

(03:36):
it was kind of cool. It'svery cool. Yeah, I mean it's
kind of you know, if youif you like Tears of the Kingdom,
if you like Breath of the Wild, it's kind of a I guess a
different take on that type. Asyour honor. I'm sure there's plenty of
puzzles and things to figure out.Kind of has that that feel and look
to it. It just kind ofcaught my eye as gorgeous. Yep,

(03:59):
what as we got? This iswhat's really cool. It's kind of got
that Zelda vibe to it as well. Yeah, it's you know, it's
one of those games if you wantto do it. You can probably do
it in this game, you know, fly around, build things, create,
you know, it's just a wonderfulfantasy game. That amazing. You've
got some other ones on the grid. You had mentioned before to what other

(04:20):
ones we got? Yeah, Soyou know, Microsoft, what what they're
they're kind of finding out is uhuh, you know, if they really
want to make it, trying totake over a platform or a whole game
series like they try to do withCall of Duty and whatnot, is not
exactly to go. You know, the Xbox has had some success, but

(04:42):
nowhere near what the PlayStation platform hashad or even even the Switch. I
would say, you know, justthe versatility of the Switch is just untouchable
to me compared to the Xbox.I've owned all of them and still have
the Switch and we're playing now.But what Microsoft has sound is take some
of the PC games, some oftheir games that they would only put,
you know, on their platforms, only on Windows, and start putting them

(05:04):
on all the platforms. So thisis one here, it's called c A
Thieves. It's on PS five. They're gonna have it on PS five.
It is a Microsoft game. Originally, it's kind of evolved in like a
pirate adventure game. It's it's kindof a little bit more of a G
rated version PG rated version of youknow, Pirates of the Caribbean. I

(05:29):
guess you'd say it's more of acartoon version. Yeah, I mean,
you're the stuff I saw. Imean there was like ships that were able
to actually operate underwater, like underfull sail and come up under other ships
and attack them. I mean itjust seems kind of like yeah, yeah,
yeah, it's like a cartoon version, you know of Pirates of the
Caribbean, you know, which wouldtake somebody, you know, Microsoft,

(05:51):
something like that to pull that off. You know. So that's to my
knowledge, that's that's what they're kindof figuring out, is the better better
are released the stuff for everybody. So yeah, it lets you control different
pirates, different pirate ships, youknow obviously, you know, operate them,
you know, conductive war, youknow things like that. I'm not

(06:13):
not not super sure of everything whenI haven't played any demos of it yet,
something I definitely want to check out. I mean, it's got an
audio book and a soundtrack too. From the trailer. Yeah, yeah,
well once it once it's the PlayStationstore I played on picking it up.
I mean it looks like it'd bea blast mm hmm. It's really cool
looking. I like the design ofthe animation for the characters in the game

(06:33):
in gym, which really cool.Yeah, what other ones we get?
A lot of games are picking thatup now. I mean it's it's fun.
I mean it's cartoony, but youknow, they can still make it
as adult as they want. What'scool, you know? Yep, for
sure. We've got another game that'sthat that caught my eye just recently,

(06:55):
and I hadn't really seen much onit over the past couple of months,
as I have more or less thepast week or a couple of weeks.
It just really caught my eye. It's a studio eleven Bit Studios, running
off the Unreal Engine four, whichyou know, I've never really seen anything
bout eleven Bit of Studios, Andforgive me if you know they've made some
kind of spectacle a game I shouldbe aware of, but I haven't really

(07:17):
seen much of them before. Butthis game looks incredible. It's called Indica.
It's I N D I KA.It is based in a based in
like an alternate reality Russia where there'sreligion against evil people against religion, that
kind of deal. You play asa nun. She is, uh,

(07:41):
just kind of an ordinary nun.She praised us her due diligence and all
of her or everything like that. You go through her days and basically you're
gonna have views of of religions andthings like that clashing back during this alternate
reality of Russia. I want tosay it was during the fourteenth fifteenth century

(08:05):
somewhere when I saw the in thetrailer. One of the trailers kind of
alluded to the time period. Uh, that could be, but it was
it was somewhere pretty far back.Maybe it's awesome seventeenth century. I don't
know, but yeah, it's it'spretty beat looking. And it's also it's

(08:26):
running off the Unreal Engine four, which you know, I'm a huge fan
of of anything but the Unreal Engine. I just I'm mesmerized by the lighting
and the oh I mean compares toit. But it just seems like a
really cool game. You don't seemany teams that are based on religion or
anything, especially like playing as anun that turns into like I mean,

(08:46):
it's it's just really caught my eye. Something something interesting and different. You
know, it's it's obviously it's athird person type of venture game. But
you know, there's I can't thinkof any other ones were like I said,
you plays a nun. You're dealingwith you know, religion type stuff,
you know, things like that.I mean, it's more like a

(09:07):
I guess, a more realistic versionof Diablo just the thing I can think
evil and devils and things like that, says a third person story driven games.
So third person it's gonna have alot of puzzles in it too.
Very cool. Yep, we needa lot of puzzles. Super cool.

(09:28):
That that that really caught my eyesomething uh something kind of neat as you
know, and and and all theviewers. Now, I'm a huge fan
of zombie games. Call of Duties, there's zombies. They've got some updates
coming out, they haven't released themyet. There be some more stuff in
the Dark Ether. So you know, if you're into that, just keep
playing, keep grinding away, gettingthe skins, get get the weapon upgrades,

(09:48):
everything like that. Uh yeah, get all the goodies unless you just
want to want to buy them andskip the battle pass and all that kind
of but but yeah, yeah, they got a few a few more bees
coming out in that, a fewmore enemies, different things. Uh.
The big game that I'm still focusedon this year is Killing four three,

(10:09):
which is it's an Unreal Engine basedgame. It is uh, you know,
should still be on target release atsome point mid this year, maybe
later this year. Even they keepreleasing little trailers here and there. It's
multi platform, it's the official sisterWheel trailer was released in By a week
ago. Looks like yeah, yeah, they're they're trickling, trickling stuff out

(10:30):
for it. It's uh, it'spretty incredible. I mean, look at
that Colleen. Absolutely terrifying. Itlike terrifying to the max. Yeah.
So, you know what I wantedto do is talk about the history of
you know, I'm talking about KillingFloor all the time, and this is
the third, the third one.So this goes back almost you know,
fifteen years, a trip wire interactiveas who makes it running off the Unreal

(10:52):
Engine. It's multi platform Killing Floortwo or Killing Floor one. We're not
cross platform the new Killing for three, which is very important. You know,
I've got friends that their own PC. I've got this game on PC
and on my p S five,So it is actually gonna be cross platform
where you can play it against yourbuddies, you know, if your own
PS five and their own PC youcan play them. Uh, so that

(11:15):
that's gonna be something cool to change. But yeah, so what I wanted
to do leading up to the releaseof the game for everybody, I thought
this might be something kind of fun. What I'll do is, uh,
each episode that that I come onhere, you know, give you guys
updates, I will tell you alittle bit about the history of Killing for
leading up to the release of it. So, originally there's a company,

(11:39):
biotech company called Horzene h O rz i n E. Based in in
London. They had an outbreak intheir lab. Of course, the the
whole city fell, and uh,as you play through the game, you're
actually, you know, your outtill later orbit you're actually a guy named

(12:01):
Private Schnyder who somehow, you know, survives through all this this stuff.
You are going through the city ofLondon. You find out that not only
is the government involved with this Horzenelab with the experiments, they're trying to
create biological weapons and biotech for youknow, combat purposes and things like that.

(12:24):
And of course it got out. They were injecting it with all kinds
of muscle growth hormones and steroids andinto these these creatures to give them crazy
about the strength. One of them, which is actually called a flesh pound,
breaks out during one of these hormonetherapy breakouts. Yeah, this one

(12:46):
flesh pound, which these things, now you take my risk here up and
put spikes on it. Outs spikesand they spin, So that's what it's
called a flesh powder. These thingsspin these spikes and run at you in
the game and you've got to tryto fight them off. And they're they're
massive. They're like five hundred pounds, six hundred pounds, just solid muscle,

(13:07):
gigantic zombie you know, creations thatthey're really not fun. Uh Now,
And you also have a killing flour. Two. You have a King
flesh Pound, which is like thetop dog right there though. Yeah,
it's one of the bosses actually upthere with uh uh the the uh doctor
Hans up there with doctor Hans, yeah, and uh the the the big

(13:31):
bloat the fights. So yeah, that's some of the enemies that are in
there. But they're smaller flesh poundstoo. That that that's that's what broke
out originally in the lab. Theyhad superhuman strength, killed everyone in the
biotech floor. It eventually got out. So there's a clone uh in this

(13:52):
this first one, first killing floor. It is a it's a Sergeant David
Masterson. He was created by Thor'sor Horsing to try to fight the the
resistance. The it's the the edr F, which is what you're part
of, and they're trying to justyou know, stop this whole lad this
whole breakout and uh, the theHorsing. There's evil people behind it that

(14:15):
want to see it happen. It'skind of like sounds a little bit like
Resident Evil a little bit kind ofdoesn't it doesn't. It very very similar
Umbrella Corporation, very similar, youknow, And I like both of them.
I think they're both awesome and ResidentEvil's fantastic. I saw they just
Resident Evil. I think I sentit to the other day. They have
a bourbon out now, I gottagotta check that out as soon as I

(14:37):
can, real quick. I addthat to my my shelf back here.
So you're not only dealing with theclones, but the specimens get out and
so that that's as you're playing throughKilling Floor one. So there's a killing
Floor mod which shows some cut scenesof the scientists the injecting the flesh Pound
or whatever. That's when it getsout. So what happens, Uh,

(15:01):
there's there's called it the the DiscoDeath March Massacre, which was a setup.
It was it was held an asylum. It was raid style, you
know, and being an asylum asa DJ Colo, DJ Capture, DJ
Trod Level eight and d J Scully. These are the the DJs that are

(15:24):
that are in the game that theyuse, and so flesh Pound comes in
kills everyone U. D J Scullyis apparently ex military, right, he's
he was. He went a wallin the military. He got out.
He was the only person that survivedthe entire attack of the flesh cround.
Everyone else got shredded by the meatmincers. Uh that that they come with,

(15:46):
so no one else got official ResidentEvil Cucolera Picante X Resident Evil Death
Island Bourbon. Yep, it's amazing. It looks like some solid good stuff
there, true that responsibly. Yeah, it'll it'll wake the dead, right,

(16:11):
I'll wake it up big time.Feeling a little down, it might
pick you up. So so yeah, you're you're at this rave happens,
everyone dies, DJ Scully escapes. He's the character in the game, be
an ex military. There's probably someguns laying around, so it gets find
his way out. So government istrying to cover up the whole thing from

(16:32):
the outbreak. And uh so I'llactually I'll leave you guys at that,
and I'll probably do two more partsof the history of Killing Flour leading up
to the release. So that's whatI've got on games right now. You
have any anything, any questions, anything that sounds amazing. I like what
you had to bring up on thosegames. It's all. You got some
TV shows up too, movies aswell. Yeah, yeah, so I've

(16:57):
kind of interested in some movies outthis month. There's there's some pretty cool
stuff. I know. The originalplan of the Apes was back in sixty
eight. They've got I don't knowhow many versions or renditions of it now
and variations. But now we've gotPlanet of the Apes, which is this
one that's coming out in May,is actually going to be like a concept

(17:18):
of devolution. Humans are de evolving, the Apes are becoming the dominant species.
This woman here, her character, she's actually extremely smart for a human,
so they're very interested in her.The chimps in the gorillas fight back
and forth with each other. Thechimps are apparently the heroes in this,

(17:42):
so they rescue the girl and thenobviously the Silverbacks catch them that side of
the ahes ketch them and tries topunish them and kill them, and they
escape. So it's this constant, you know, hero rescue story. You
know, I think it's gonna bea feel good movie, and I think
it's have a good ending. Takesplace three hundred years after the last one,

(18:03):
right right, yeah, yeah, somewhere there. Yeah, it's like
two hundred and fifty, three hundredyears later. I think I think it's
gonna be a feel good movie. For planning of the apes. There's gonna
be a lot, a lot ofcool stuff in there. And you know,
I think that the heroes are gonnaprevail, so hopefully, you know,
humans will prevail. Yeah, thehumans. There's your King Ape there,

(18:26):
the big king King guy there.Yeah. Yeah, it seemed like
the Silverbacks they were the uh,the antagonists in this this movie. Just
from the previews that I've seen, there's a couple of previews out I guess,
you know, about six seven minutesworth of previews. We could just
launch one new little hero clip todayor yesterday. I believe it's on YouTube.

(18:47):
I really just dropped it. Butthey're all getting chased there by the
apes. They're getting rounded up.It's pretty cool. That looks great.
What other films you got on thelist that you've been looking at? I've
got a Kong and Zilla the NewEmpire. Okay, Oh, yes,

(19:07):
I saw that one that was amazing. Trailer looks phenomenal action, Yes,
looks action packed. Yes. SoGodzilla and King Kong team up in this.
There's uh, there's actually there's anew new enemy. Uh So what
happens is this is the legendary filmswhich you know, if on our universe,

(19:32):
yes, yeah, absolutely unbelievable movies, especially in the action action world
in sci fi as well. UhSo, there's a signal basically that that
goes out throughout the entire world theplanet. Uh, it comes from an
unknown location the Titans, which youknow, the Titans are classified as you
know Godzilla and King Kong there, that's what they're labeled as. They can

(19:55):
actually uh pick up these signals andso they know that it's something and bad.
It's something new that's coming. Theydon't know what it is, but
then you know, there's places openingup on the earth. Looks like it
leads to like the core of theCrust, and it looks like that's where
the enemies are at. So theygo down there. They discover that it's

(20:15):
a call to war. So theyhave this new enemy to fight. That's
powerful. Enemy is obviously wanting tokill humanity. Godzilla and King Kong team
together to fight this evil that wantsto kill humanity, and you know humans
obviously, you know, work withthem as well. So it looks action
packed. I mean, put Godzillaand King Kong together. I really don't

(20:37):
think you go wrong. No,No, I'm in man and May looks
good as far as I mean.Shoot, these are some fantastic movies coming
out. And we haven't even gottentoo summer yet. You know, imagine
like July, some of the blockbustersmay be coming out by then, but
you know, these are some goodlooking movies for May. Sure sure on
other ones you got in the list, you were telling me I was interested

(21:03):
in this. I'm familiar with thegame series, not films, But you
said that there's a font series thatoh, Yeah, we actually got a
first look screeners at the entire seriesbefore it came out, and we have
the entire Swallow show review here withlimited spoilers. It goes over the breakdown

(21:25):
of the show. The character ofLucy played by el Purnell. The character
of the ghoul, Cooper Howard,he's in there as well. You've got
also the Brotherhood of Steel, hischaracter of the main one of the main
guys he's in. There's one ofthe members of the Brotherhood of Steel.
It's a amazing Also got the guythat played the original Paula Trades in the

(21:48):
nineteen eighties. Dune is the fatherof the main character of Lucy in the
show. Very cool, very cool, And the episode one kind of sets
that up. She has to gooutside the vault to look for her dad.
We're just gonna leave it at that, Okay, I'm gonna have to
check it out. How many episodesare there now? I'm on episode four,
Mike, exactly sure how many theyhave ten somewherebe twelve. But it's

(22:12):
an amazing so so far as I'vewatched it. Yeah, as you know,
I've been following the Halo series onParamount. I'm gonna be uh dropping
off some more articles as I gothrough those that be great. That's gonna
be Those will be on the onthe website too. If you guys want
to catch up and read up onthe the Halo series. For sure,
I'll be giving some updates too onthe Expanse game. Oh, the tell

(22:37):
Tales. Yeah, it's a greatgame series. Yeah yeah, Telltales is
unbelievable. I love that game alot. I just haven't had much time
lately to play it too much.I've just had a lot of things going
on unfortunately. But things coming downa bit, I'm able to get back
more to gaming. That's so I'mgetting a little bit in tonight and I'll
have to get some in uh morethis week as well. So here's some

(23:00):
of the Tellte games. Seriously, the official Arcangel bonus episode revealed they did
a comic Con this past year. But it's an amazing series. If you're
a fan of the Expanse, definitelyto check out the Tellte games. A
lot of the original actors portray theircharacters and video game version of them.
Yeah, the graphics are cool. The game plays a lot of fun that

(23:21):
the amount of detail in it it'sincredible. I mean for twenty bucks in
the PlayStation story, you can't beatit? Yeah, beat that absolutely amazing.
I mean I've probably got six sevenhours in it and not maybe a
quarter done. So I mean, you know, you're looking at maybe twenty
five to thirty hours of gameplay fortwenty bucks and become for sure. People
that may not know this and knowif you know this. This year is

(23:42):
the twenty fifth anniversary of the Matrixand we having a brilliantly beautiful breakdown article
going over the history and the franchiseand the movie by our good writer Dominic
Riley. Here's the article here.It goes over like the character of Neo
anyway, first use so it's calledthe bullet time effect where they slow him

(24:03):
down, they can move in slowmotion. The machines, all the good
in the sight. All many gamesand things adapted that after all, right,
I mean, Max Pain, thatwas the first one I can remember
we had both time you popped thething and slowed down. I mean,
and uh heck, even a dreadI think they had that stuff. Was

(24:25):
that stuff? Oh yeah, uhslow? Not slow? But what was
that stuff called drugs? Yeah?I mean so many movies that adopted that
same thing. I think it wasthree D too. They made it in
three D, so you want thetheater is pretty awesome. Yeah, that
was wild, especially when the endwhere she gets thrown off the balcony and
well there's there's the uh part whenus the lady with the slow more low

(24:52):
like bad guy lady, she throwsskins these two dudes that basically did her
you didn't do their job, drugshim up on slow most skins have been
throws them off one hundred something storybuilding. Yeah, they were awake,
they were they were awake and aliveand were just yeah, yeah, yeah,
brutal, brutal stuff. Let's see, you got anything else on the

(25:15):
Fallout series? Or is that yeah, we got some other stuff. When
I was gonna mention this little tidbitand we get to it here right quick.
It's actually more or less been confirmedthat the Fallout series will be renewed
for a season two. A biglet's see read this year A big tax
and center or something like that. Here they got a twenty five million dollar

(25:41):
tax credit to relocate from New YorkState to Los Angeles and film so it's
quite a bit of money. SoI'm sure they'll do a second season for
sure, and it's have to checkthat show out if you have it.
There's plenty of content from the gamesMan, it's just we also got a
brand new yeah, for sure,it's like tons of games. We've also
got an amazing article, interesting articlethat is done by our new writer,

(26:03):
Michael Smith. It's called why StarWars might be better as a television franchise.
Super fascinating article two breaks it downinto the big screen projects, the
TV franchise, and the conclusion.Check that article out on the site as
well. Just posted that the otherday and got an exclusive interview with Jake
stormone from Mythica and the outpost fromour last event we did the one before

(26:27):
last, and we've got so muchcontent we're reporting over. It's our YouTube
channel. If you haven't followed ourYouTube channel, follow it's right down here
at scie fiction Official no lower cases, I mean, no A dashes,
underscores again. It is at let'ssee what comes up here at sci fiction

(26:49):
Official. If you're watching this,if you're listening to this episode seventy four
on Sci Fiction Radio, that's scifiction Official on YouTube. So there you
go, and you're going to andso I've got a few things I've been
watching. Uh, it's a littlebit out of the sci fi a realm,
it's still within the realm of somepretty cool stuff here in the geeky

(27:15):
things. I guess, well,I have been watching some some animes been
watching, so I picked up Uh, these are incredible, incredible movies.
Picked up both Goes to the Shell, the original h Yeah and Ultra four
K. Let me tell you itlooks amazing. I've watched both of those.

(27:40):
If you haven't familiarized yourself with him, it's one of the older animes
when when a Kira like a Kiracame out, things like that was amazing
too. Yeah, the other otheranimes and kind of kicked off the whole
thing. It's it's a very adult, very setentcle. You know, it's

(28:02):
gritty. I mean it's it's likea like a a good action movie put
into a cartoon. I mean itis. Uh, it is nothing childish,
even though it is a cartoon.I'll tell you that. So when
I else that, I picked upat the last expert You and I went
to over Biloxi. I met agentleman there that had a really awesome booth

(28:25):
with a lot of older animes andstuff. Uh. Oh yeah, yeah,
yeah. I ended up getting thestandalone complex. Oh wow, that's
the actual Japanese one. It lookslike yeah, yeah, these are the
uh it's fifty two episodes. Soeach each one of these is like like
four discs or so each one haseach one has like each twenty six wow,

(28:49):
twenty six episodes. Yep. TheGhost of the Shell that which comes
after these two. And now thisthis takes place before the actual the live
action movie that they did back inlength like sixteen or seventeen with Scarlett Johansson.

(29:11):
These two, then these, andthen there's another series. Uh,
and then it's the Scarlett Johansson movie. Oh you have the other series after
that? Or well, when Ifinished these, I was planning on getting
some more. So I'm I've gotso many things going and I'm trying to
keep I want to make a cureon Blue ray HD or something like that.

(29:32):
Yeah, I'm not sure. I'mnot sure if it's gonna be like
in in Blu Ray or the fourK Ultra or anything. I want to
say that. Maybe it's on BlueRay. I've seen it on on Amazon.
I just I never picked it up. I you know, I should
have. I just know I've gotso many things going with the games,
and you know, trying to keepup with everything as it is that you

(29:52):
know, I'm buying things as Igo to you know, finish one and
get the one that comes out next, you know. Speaking of anime,
have you seen the Battleship Yamato thatthey did that was the live action?
Yeah? Yeah, it's based onthe the World of Warships. Yeah,

(30:12):
it's it's the battle it's a liveThey have a live action battleship based off
the old anime. But the liveaction. I think they did it in
two thousand and five. I believethey did this amazing. Uh, that's
that's not the live action home there'stwo of them. There's the anime one
and there's the live action one. They did a live action version. Here
it is the twenty ten movie ofBattleship Yamanta. This is a live action

(30:37):
film and it looks gorgeous. It'sgot you know, the battleship and everything.
It's got like here, here's someof the trailer and some of the
movie. It's on YouTube. Severalversions. It's got the high Definition ten
dyps on YouTube and they have alllike you said, like there's the the
Ammal Guy, which is like theone from the original anime originally called Starblazers.
It's called Space Battleship YRMNTO. Butyeah, it's absolutely amazing anime.

(31:00):
If you're not checked out Starblazers orSpace Battleship Your Model, highly recommend it.
There's actually a really nice group onFacebook that you could join about Space
Battleship your Mato as well. Soif you like checked out of highly recommend
checking out that movie on YouTube aswell. It's amazing film. It was
done about fourteen years ago but holdsup really well. It looks just like

(31:21):
The Enemy with live action. Younot to check it out. That definitely
looks like something good. I thinkeverybody would enjoy it, you get.
Yeah, So the other thing thatI've been doing, but you know,
I'm a huge car fan, hugecar to more cars than has since I've
had a Nissan To forty and thirteeneighty nine. It is a slip top

(31:44):
coup I've had for twelve thirteen yearsnow. It's on its second engine.
It has a red top SR init. Team Crollovers big break Kennedy.
Think you can think of has beendone to this car as far as you
know, performing and and uh justas far as fun and driveability, it's

(32:04):
been done to the car. It'sa lot of fun. Actually, the
steering wheel for its sitting back there, it's all sat Sparko steering wheel.
Sparko harnesses everything in the car.One of the things that that well,
I mean I wanted one of thoseback in high school, you know it
never I didn't never get one,So you know I got one later.
I want I can afford it.You know. It's just a bit of

(32:27):
the car scene street racing of Domand all those guys. Yeah, you
know, but before I will tellyou you know, before that came out,
I was in that scene. Ijust turned forty, so that movie
came eleven. I hear you onthat man. Yeah, yeah, I
mean we're right there, right, you know, I think we're about sixteen
days a partner. Yeah, yeah, forty five fifty. I think we

(32:51):
figured out one time we're pretty close. Eighty years of experience together between both
of us. Yeah, all thisknowledge right, yeah, but yeah,
so you know I was involved inthat before they had all these companies that
that made aftermarket parts. When Fastand Furious came out, you had all
these aftermarket parts, had Gredy,HKS, Sparco, momo AE, m

(33:15):
IBox, just all these all thesecompanies tanna be these ja these cars up
and modifying. Yeah, people wantedto take their Civic LX and turn into
foreign horsepower, you know, streetracing machine. And so you know there
was ways to do that then. But prior to that, we would go
to Low's in home depot. Wewould get dryed ups PBC pipe things like

(33:37):
that and rig up our own corollarintakes because they didn't make them. There
was no companies that made them. The customizer A yeah. And and so
what brought the j DM scene thatI say JDM, I say the Japanese
domestic market or the Japanese cars thatthat were you know, like the Nissan
two forties back in the late eighties, early nineties. You're Supras, your

(34:01):
r X sevens, your Evos, your all that stuff that that people absolutely
love. Your three thousand gts Eclipsegsts gsx's, the Fast and the Furious
Tokyo drift cars. Yeah. Yeah, So you know, before these companies
and all this stuff was was aroundhere in the US. Uh, there
were people racing them in the mountainsand stuff in Japan that they had really

(34:23):
short gear ratios. They were, you know, short spool turbos, smaller
turbos. They spot really quick, accelerate real quick, short gears, which
real drifting and racing. Is that'sall real out there? Some Yeah,
it was way before the movies andpeople don't realize of course, you know,
yes, and those cars over there. Our cars came with open differentials,

(34:44):
which makes it kind of hard todrift. Their cars over there came
with limited slip difference drifting. TheThe S thirteen is a perfect example.
Uh, the S thirteen over therecame with a two liter turbo engine.
The S R twenty d T wasn'tthat in the movie too? Right?
There's S thirteen and I believe womenthey I think there may have been a
two forty or two and the fastersthey were talking about the front engine,

(35:06):
front wheel drive version that was ina front well drive car in Japan.
They were talking about putting those incivics or something. It just I'm not
sure what. It's a movie.Yeah, yeah, it's it's a movie.
That's what they're looking for Spoon enginesand whatnot. And UH Spoon was
a company over in Japan that modifiedCivics engines are probably twenty thousand dollars a

(35:30):
piece to get one on the civicdollar piece of equipment there right right,
you know, I want my tensecond car, right. But but yeah,
so these these cars were real popular. I mean they were. They
were on people's walls that you know, they knew what a three hundred ex's
they knew it too, forty sixis things like that. So there's Japanese

(35:52):
versions we didn't get here. Sothese DVDs are about to show you.
They're they're based off of j dM versions. Now they're they're uh the
Toyota. So I will tell youthis. It's it's initial deep. It
is based off of the UH DVDs. Uh, these are DVDs. And

(36:14):
then I've got the theatricals. There'sthe three movies, and those aren't easy
to find anything. You don't seemuch initial DISTA. We haven't at least
know the the the Stage four ishard to find. I did find it,
I just haven't gotten it yet.I haven't made it through these.
But the the Toyota, the theHachi. The A eighty six, it's
Corolla. It's an eighty five. The Rerural drive. You could get a

(36:37):
the ones prior to the eighty five. A eighty five I believe it was
a single overhead cam. Uh,not not as good at performing, but
the platform was there for the carof the front ende of Rerural Drive was
there, but just not the notthe the the drive train that it needed.
And then the A eighty six cameout. It was dual overhead cam
and very quick. It was oneof the most well balanced off the show

(37:00):
room drift cars that anybody could everbuy. And so these things were just
you know, they're tearing the mountainsup with them, and uh, these
are the ones they would race upin Japan in the mountains. Yes,
yeah, so this this is actuallybased in Akina, so you're your head
character is His name's Takumi. Heworks at his dad's tofu shop. His
dad is like a kind of alegendary racer. Behind the scene, you

(37:22):
don't see anything of him racing, but uh, the older racers around the
mountain and the island they know uhyou know, yeah, they yeah,
yeah, they all know each other. So he works there. There's some
of course, romantic romantic interest init. Uh. He's you know,
he's in finishing high school or whatevertheir higher education is over Japan. Uh,

(37:44):
he's finishing that. And you knowhe's got a romantic interest, he's
got friends, he's a job,and you know, goes to the whole
spiel of it. He's kind ofa in the closet racer, but he's
one. He's like one of thebest drivers on the mountain and nobody knows
that. The reason me is heactually works for his dad's tofu shop.
So early in the morning, wellthere's no traffic. He actually travels these

(38:07):
mountain roads in this A eighty six, okay, and he delivers the tofu.
So the faster he gets done, the faster he can go about his
day. So consequently he gets fasterand faster going up and down these mountains
and figures out that the car isjust you know, it's a it's a
monster as far as you know,a drift car from the factory like that.

(38:28):
So he's there's this. I thinkit's fuji war a tofu. I
think it's a Fuji Fujiwara. Ithink it's the name of the tofu shop.
So it's got the the the stickersplastered on the side of it for
the toafood shop. So imagine likeover here a pizza hut car that races
and and you know, kicks everybody'sbutt. So that's basically what you have
here is a tofu car with thisthis driver that's you know back in the

(38:52):
day. He used to be abig racer and knows this stuff. His
son. He doesn't really teach muchabout it, but he just picks it
up and he becomes a fast driverbecause he wants hurry up and deliver the
tofu and get done for the day. So if you have fun, where
those those DVD's and blue? Where'dyou get those ones? Out? So?
I found these two? Uh theywere They were the same guy that
had the Ghosts of the Shell DVD'sat the at the Uhi. Well,

(39:16):
it's cool. The guy he knowslike all the DVD's and stuff, and
uh, he was like, man, he's like, you know, he's
like your car guy, aren't youknow? I was like absolutely, He's
like only car people buy initial d's, Like I never sell them to like
just animate people. And I'm likeit's kind of a pretty like I mean
it's a legit car guy. Imean the cars in there are real.

(39:37):
You know, the modifications are real, the driving styles are real. The
double clutching and heel toe uh breakingand accelerating techniques, all that stuff is
a real driving techniques. All thatthe physics and stuff they talk about are
very real. So from a youknow, car nuts standpoint, it's it's

(39:57):
awesome and you have tons of episodes. You know, cool, you know.
So yeah, so they they basicallythey go up and he goes up
and down this mountain. Well there'sother they're little like race clans or whatever.
So you have like the Red Sunsyou have I can't remember the name
of all of them, but differentgroups that are on different different different areas.
Well they go to this mountain,uh and they in Aquina and they

(40:20):
race up and down this mountain totry to Yeah there they drift in tandem.
So you've got like, you know, f d r X seven,
You've got our thirty two skyline, you got gt RS Sylvia's which is the
S thirteen to forty over in Japan, it's our two forty s X.
But that's what they have over there. It's called a Sylvia you have those,

(40:44):
you have the A eighty six's fc R X seven's the the second
generation Supras you have. It's somereally cool rivals. Uh. In the
the the writer of this series,I'm trying to find his name. The
other series beyond the initial Yes,yes, there is there is one coming

(41:06):
out that that is based on theOkay, so now the A the A
eighty six that is the Toyter Crawlfrom back then. Now the Toyter that
is in the showroom right now atthe Toyter Dealership is a g R eighty
six. That eighty six is basedoff of those cars that became famous drifting
guards in the eighties for drifting.Yes, so that's where the eighty six

(41:29):
comes from. And g R isis the their racing uh division now that
they have. So it's the gR eighty six, so that that car
is still alive and kicking. Thereis a new series, uh that that's
coming out. It is it isbased on the the the g R eighty
six. Okay, Uh, there'sone in it and initial d R.

(41:57):
Yeah, it's written by the sameguy. So far, I think there's
uh like eighteen episodes and then thethe So the initial d started out,
uh in nineteen ninety five. Isa manga. Then it wasn't actually an
animate until ninety eight, and thenthere's since then there's been films. There's
a live action movie I think thirteen, I believe for the manga, right,
Uh, when it ends somewhere inthere, I know there's there's thirty

(42:21):
two. It's a lot. Yeah, it's quite a few. Uh.
If you find them, man,it's you got there worth some money.
Yeah, well over one thousand dollarsfor a well kept set of them,
you know, I mean it's they'renot they're They became popular after they were
out of print because then, youknow, it was like after the Fast

(42:42):
and the Furies happened, then peoplewanted to go back and look at these
cars and like, oh, evosare really cool, and it's like you
just figure that out like that. You never played Grand Trisma, I mean
going you know, I was playingGrand Trisma back movie they made recently.
Yes, that was an excellent movie, by the way, excellent movie.
I was playing with these cars onGrants Ariisma before the you know, Fast

(43:04):
and Furious ever came out, beforebefore I had a driver's license, so
you know, I knew what thesethings were, and when I saw the
anime come out, I'm like,I gave it a watch and I was
like, this is unbelievable. Andfor twenty years I have, like you
said, there's not much out there. You can't really find it, and
what you do find is through theroof because people want to keep it hanging
to it and you can leave tospeed. That's it. That's it.

(43:25):
So but yeah, I mean asfar as the car guy and you know,
a huge nerd, I mean,it doesn't get better than that.
And I have one sitting in thegarage literally, so you say it's getting
close to me and put together toalmost Yeah. Yeah. The rear ends,
rear ends going in front ends onehundred percent done. We've got new
bearings, bushings, everything going inthe rear, new drive shaft, the

(43:50):
one piece drive shaft converted from twopiece to one piece, new big breaks
for the rear, full carollovers goingin all the way around, stainless break
lines, adapting the zether so thebreaks the big brakes have are adapted out
of the twin term with three energyX which runs aluminum calipers and helps just
paint heat better. Huge. Yeah, I mean if it, you know,

(44:14):
if it, if it does notgo fast forward with these breaks,
it will stop. It will stop. It's got four piston front calipers and
two piston I think, yeah, two piston piston. But they're massive.
So I mean, the the rearroaders are the loan are bigger than the
stop front roaders. So the newones, the new front roaders are just

(44:34):
massive. So there, it'll it'sgonna stop. It's gonna be something.
But yeah, so yeah, fullcrawl overs, all new energy suspension bushes
throughout the entire subframe. In therear end, new subframe bushings, brakes,
bearings, yeah, you name it. It's it's happening. So,
uh, the rear when I'm waitinghorn is the head order ball joints.

(44:59):
Those are here. I just reallyneed to take the all the the rear
spindles or whatever you were calling them, take all those and uh go get
all that, all the bushes pressedin and the barriers pressed in, and
then start reassembling. I've got fullyadjustable camera arms and toe arms all the
way around the whole car. Uh, solid tension rods in the front.

(45:22):
It's gonna be stiff rye, butit's gonna handle. It'll be a really
cool car to drive. I cannotwait to drive it, can't wait to
hear it again. It amazing, lightweight pulleys and everything on it, A
lightweight flywheel revs real quick. Howmuch longer do you think it'll be like
ready to go like a Monther Icould. I could do it that or
less. I mean, it's justuh, I've been messing with my motorcycle

(45:42):
and you know, I've just boughtthe bought the bends and messing with that.
I mean, it's just been therace car, the motor there.
Yeah, and then the jeep, the jeep with the good gie. Was
that jeep was doing the armor rightthe t the t J. It's it's
got arm were on the rock slidersall the way around, armor on the
lights, brush guard. Yeah,I said, rock sliders. It's got

(46:07):
the gin right suspension parts, tearflex lift, uh, steering box,
the things that the armor I haveunderneath. It's like bulletproof. I mean
it's I've pushed trees over with it, and it's friend Jacob Charlotte pushed it.
Yeah he did, he did.Yeah, it's that thing. Man,

(46:29):
I've put it. I've had itseven years. I've I've put it
through its paces. It's a fourleter straight six, made it up to
a five speed and in four loveit'll about go straight up a cliff.
I mean it's a very capable vehicle. Really cool. Man. I wish
I'd got a Jeep a lot sooner, you know, but I'm glad to
have one now. It's it's alot of fun. And uh I drive
it every once in a while, you know, but mainly if champion go

(46:53):
off road. There's a lot ofplaces here in Alabama do some mud ride
and whatnot. But yeah, I'vegot the five forty that I'm working on
as well. But but yeah,I mean I I love the T forty
band and you know I've got it. You've been to my place. I've
got the huge initial D poster forfor me. Yeah yeah, I mean,

(47:15):
I I just man, I watchedthe Great actually yeah kind of man.
Yeah, yeah, I mean Ishould. I'll show that one picture
I got, uh, the Titanicone that I won't I won't tell too
much. I'll i'll say that fornext time, showing off really if you
get the most interesting yeah yeah, yeah, so but yeah, I mean

(47:37):
I watched the initial d's. Uh, it makes me want to go out
rich. I mean it's it's atrue passion. I mean I love love
the car scene and as much assci fi and stuff, you know,
just love getting into it. Butbut yeah, so, uh, these
you have the way that you watchthese in order. They're they're Japanese.
So don't you know you've seen theoriginal Nintenda Controllers B becomes comes for a.

(47:58):
So don't go off the ages orsomething like that. Yeah, stages,
there's stages see stage one, two, three, and four. Uh,
and then you have these legends whichare the like little movies that go
between. There's a full on liveacting movie that I think came out like
Eiders live action Initial D as well. Yeah yeah with TEQ basically sums the

(48:21):
whole thing up. But uh,I see in the it is that new
one is? Is it DF Ghost? It's something ghost is the name of
it. It's got the g Reighty six and so what it is.
It is based on a time periodin Japan where electric cars have taken over.

(48:43):
These are the gas powered race carsthat are still around us, and
so if you get to drive one, you're considered like a like a key
or like Royalty. So the tobe that good of a driver, you
got to work your way up throughthe ranks. And and so some of
these cars, like like the theA eighty six, the the people with

(49:04):
GTRs were like, oh, it'sa stupid little Toyota car. And then
it beats them, you know,on the downhill, you know, or
whatever on a kena beats them onthe mountain. Because if a skilled driver
can out drive a powerful car oroutdrive a more powerful car based on the
skill, they used to drift thenot as powerful car. So that's basically
what this this. I think it'sDF Ghost or something. I just can't

(49:29):
remember, but I know it's somethingghost and like so I think it's eighteen
parts right now that they have onthe the DVDs, and they do have
a Japanese to English version. I'mgonna truck you get my hands on that.
Just do be careful because there's alot of Japanese version mangas in Japanese
version DVDs out there with no subtitles, no nothing. And then so you're

(49:51):
sitting there, you know, notknow what's going on. Let's just speak
cavites. But so yeah, that'sbased in the time Perio in Japan,
which all the cars he electric.Uh. The the these gas powered race
cars are left and these drivers arelike gods, like kings. They get
to drive them. They're you know, high, they looked up to type
people. Uh. And then there'sa competition the g R eighty six.

(50:13):
They're looking down on it like,uh, you know, what is this
thing whatever? And when it's actuallythe driver that starts out driving the other
drivers with the skylines and the GTRsuh. Similar to the story of the
A eighty six and initial be cool. Well. In wrapping up, I
wanted to thank you first off forjoining back with us on the show talk

(50:37):

a little bit over and went tothe history of this. Uh. We
got a lot of I'm always like, I'm always holding stuff up and uh,
you know, figuring out to elaborateon it a little bore. Glue
rays are really cool on the DVDs. I want to check some of those
out myself. Yeah. I putthem in the the like the the Ultras,
you run them in the PS fiveand IOK, point four kltrich T

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
