Guy right there in a couple of months.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
He gave me this big rock and I think he's
a handsome guy.

Once, Melissa, thank you so much for talking with me today.
If it's okay, I'm just gonna jump right in sure.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
So tell me about Scott.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
How did you two meet?
Speaker 6 (01:52):
I was sent to Indianapolis one weekend to a motorcycle
convention because I worked in the industry at the time.
That weekend, Scott and I literally bumped elbows. I could
hear a very very thick southern accent. That was a
little bit hard for me to understand, but truly that
(02:12):
is how we met. I thought he was adorable. He
became a good friend from the moment I met him.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Scott Dean Connor.
Speaker 9 (02:36):
Can tell you unless aquire the awfully when it worn't
and they will love, honor, cherish as long as you
both shall live.
Speaker 6 (03:02):
Brian became a very integral part of what was going
on there. They were like brothers. They loved each other
like brothers, they fought like brothers. Scott was an only child.
I think he liked that he and Beverly were very close.
I love that she was able to be down there
(03:24):
at the motorcycle dealership working with him, because ultimately they
were able to spend more time together. She doated on him,
and she was very proud of him.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
We're going to find out what this big ball is. Yay,
I started crying me.
Speaker 10 (03:54):
It's a boy.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Yep. We're going a little Scotty.
Speaker 6 (03:57):
Now here's the nursery. I had a motorcycle boarder put
up for Scotti.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Siatty, talk to me about that last time that you
saw Scott.
Speaker 6 (04:19):
I usually woke up before him and headed to work.
I worked for the Chamber of Commerce at the time,
but I was experiencing pretty heavy morning sickness, and so
he actually got it before me headed to work. Then
I got up and started getting ready, and I passed
the motorcycle dealership on the way to work. I honked
(04:40):
at him. He blew a kiss, and he waved at
me as I drove by. We had a conversation about
two o'clock and I told him I'll probably head that
way in the next hour, so.
Speaker 11 (05:00):
Sports, okay, what's the problem.
Speaker 6 (05:06):
While I was driving to the dealership, there was a
y in the road blocked and nobody could get through.
Speaker 12 (05:13):
I pulled up to.
Speaker 6 (05:14):
That blockade and it was just a sea of law enforcement.
I knew that something had happened. I got out of
(05:37):
my car and then ran past like ten cops said
I have to get down there. That's my husband's business,
and they came running after me and stopped me. They
did not give me a ton of information right away.
They were instead instructed to drive me home and keep
me there, and not to turn on the TV and
(05:58):
not to turn on the radio, and they had my phone.
They didn't want me to have information from anybody until
they were ready to give it to me. I had
a good two to two and a half hours of
sitting there waiting, and I was just staring out the
(06:18):
front door, and I saw a Spartanburg County coroner drive
up my driveway, And even at that point it didn't
hit me that the Coroner's coming to my home. But
they came in. They asked me to sit down, and
then they delivered the news. They told me that an
(06:40):
unfortunate event had occurred down at Scott's business that day
and that he had been shot and killed. I then
asked for Scott's mom, and that's when they told me
that she had also been killed, and that Brian Lucas
had been killed and the fourth victim they were still
trying to identify, but in my heart, I knew.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
It was Chris Sherbert.
Speaker 6 (07:05):
It was terrible, it was it was shocking.
Speaker 11 (07:14):
Four people murdered here of this superbike motor sports in Chesney.
Speaker 12 (07:18):
In the days and weeks that followed, came a sketch
of a possible witness and descriptions of a truck and
a car spotted.
Speaker 13 (07:24):
In the area, asking for the public's help in identifying
this individual.
Speaker 11 (07:32):
This is a sketch of an individual that we know
was in the motorcycle shop.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
He's described as.
Speaker 14 (07:37):
A white man, twenty five to thirty five.
Speaker 15 (07:39):
Years of age one and seventy five to two hundred
pounds with dark brown hair.
Speaker 9 (07:43):
It may have been lasting wearing a black leather jacket
and blue jeans.
Speaker 6 (07:49):
I know there's somebody out there that knows something. They
don't have to get up and live this hell that
we do.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
M hm.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
H m hm, m h m hm.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
There's no way we can know them. The devastation of
your losh.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Well, the dance of your old I have never seen.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
My son and I had four very more people taking
out of our lives. Had remember it, pretty spot.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
I loved you and now it's no.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
And if you continue, you know the prices. Gad.
Speaker 7 (08:47):
I hold the night, make your spirits around us with
your love.
Speaker 16 (08:56):
Family members of the victims killed in a quadruple homicide
rausking for you or helped and I.
Speaker 17 (09:00):
As they grieve and cope with the dust, they hope
someone will give investigators the answers they need.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
It would I was.
Speaker 15 (09:07):
People don't ride down the street and just say I'm
gonna stop betting killing Moody I.
Speaker 6 (09:11):
Found myself sitting here asking him, who tell me?
Speaker 10 (09:14):
What?
Speaker 18 (09:14):
Tell me?
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Why?
Speaker 10 (09:15):
You know?
Speaker 5 (09:16):
Give me some kind of closure.
Speaker 6 (09:18):
So the life of me, I can't think of one
thing that would cast somebody to come in and do
such a horrific thing.
Speaker 19 (09:25):
There is still no one behind bars for the murder.
Speaker 6 (09:28):
Don't make a set at home another day wondering how
someone could have done this to us.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
I can't believe a year has passed. I have a
baby to take care of, and every little milestone that
I reached with him, it just brings back the realization
that Scott's not here. Part of me wonders if Scott
was pleading because there was a baby coming and he
knew that, and what was the lasting on his mind
as he hits the pavement.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
Okay, that's the poster.
Speaker 9 (10:09):
We'll release the day on the quadrical murders up here
on the Parisbridge Road.
Speaker 19 (10:13):
More than eighty law enforcers delivered new posters to businesses
and homes throughout the county.
Speaker 14 (10:19):
And the leeds coming, go, leeds coming, go, this scene
and nothing solid, hoping to catch a killer.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
Then we had this sketch. Now we have this one.
Speaker 15 (10:29):
This is my man that I need to talk to
the sheriff, says.
Speaker 14 (10:32):
This is the face of a man seen acting like
a customer just before the murders.
Speaker 6 (10:39):
There's the big trailers that are going to be moving
us to Arizona. Scott always said he's going to grow
over and write a book looking out this window. Now
we're going to walk into my bedroom where Scotti's sleeping,
and he's laying right in the middle of Scott in
my bedroom.
Speaker 20 (11:00):
He's had it.
Speaker 6 (11:01):
We've been moving all day and he's out to.
Speaker 21 (11:05):
Put him through the wringer.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
It's hard to leave this place.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
Scott built it for our family, and it's really hard
that he's not here.
Speaker 22 (11:25):
Six hundred and forty seven that's how many days have
passed since four people were killed.
Speaker 14 (11:31):
There have been nearly eight hundred leads.
Speaker 6 (11:33):
The only thing called about this case is the heart
of the mass murderer who's still on the loose.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
So I'd really like to get to know a little
bit more about your brother.
Speaker 10 (12:32):
Tell me about him.
Speaker 23 (12:35):
You would think that with two kids who were eight
years apart, that you know, we've probably hate each other's guts,
But we were the best of friends. We played video
games together, we made up stories, we watched movies. We
were each other's favorite person. Really. When we were little,
(12:57):
we didn't have a whole lot. So on Friday nights,
if we had all our chores done and everything, we
got to sit down and watch a movie. So we
both became like huge centophiles. And when we discovered Gene Wilder,
I feel like Gene Wilder was just like this larger
than life person that we kind of looked up to him.
(13:19):
David had a job over in Greenville and a person
that he worked with. Her name was Bobby, and Bobby's
daughter is Kayla, and they met and at the time,
Kayla was dating somebody else. A few years ago by
David meets Nicki. They get married, and David told me
(13:42):
that Nicky wanted to open the marriage. Kayla was the
third party, so to speak. He's telling me all his deepest,
(14:05):
darkest secrets. He felt an emotional connection to cayleb because
she was going through some stuff and he wanted to help.
Every Thursday, he would post a new like dad joker,
a knock knock joke, or something on his Facebook because
he didn't want anyone to have a bad day.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Well, the world has lost one of its Great Talents.
Speaker 20 (14:28):
Actor Gene Wilder has died of complications from Alzheimer's.
Speaker 18 (14:31):
For many one of his best love roles was the
title character in Willie Walk in the Chocolate Factory.
Speaker 23 (14:37):
So when Gene Wilder passed away, we knew that David
would want to know. David loved Geene Wilder, so he
would have had something more to say about it than that.
(15:02):
I was like, that's definitely weird.
Speaker 21 (15:04):
Something's up.
Speaker 23 (15:13):
David used to text, well, my mom bore me every day,
so mom was obviously very worried by this time. Just
to make her feel better, I told her that I would,
you know, text my friend Shaun who worked with him.
(15:41):
Kind of threw me off the deep end, you know.
Speaker 17 (16:07):
On September third, twenty sixteen, a concerned mother reported her son,
Charles David Carver missing. Two days later, concerned Frint also
arrived on Anderson Police's steps to report Kayla Brown, Charlie's girlfriend,
also missing.
Speaker 23 (16:23):
This is just so out of character of him. So
if anybody knows anything, please call and leave a tip.
Speaker 21 (16:32):
I'm begging you, please.
Speaker 11 (16:34):
That please, echoed by Kayla's mom.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
My daughter lives in the apartment right over here.
Speaker 11 (16:39):
Who's passing out flyers and Anderson Crossing where the couple lives.
Speaker 17 (16:43):
Kayla and Charlie's faces became a normal sight. You never
(17:03):
heard him get upset or angry or he was just
a really good gae.
Speaker 6 (17:07):
So he's not gonna just jump on there and say,
why are you asking about my girlfriend?
Speaker 14 (17:10):
And that Facebook message is awfully interesting? Did police have
any other leads that would tell them there's foul play
involved here?
Speaker 23 (17:18):
Police?
Speaker 19 (17:18):
Right now, they really say they haven't gotten a whole
lot to go on, but they really just don't know
where both of them could be.
Speaker 23 (17:44):
I was actually getting direct messages. They used a nickname
that David used to call me, and that's exactly when
I knew that it wasn't him, because it was also misspelled.
(18:05):
And if he was going somewhere, he would have told us.
Speaker 19 (18:10):
Anderson Police checked their apartment. Kayla's dog and car were
left behind.
Speaker 24 (18:15):
That's her baby.
Speaker 22 (18:16):
She would have not left him without food and water.
Speaker 21 (18:46):
The police interrogated Nikki and she didn't help much.
Speaker 17 (18:52):
Investigator's notes show that Nicole told them several stories, including
that Kaylin Charlie had called her. They were in Florida
then Myrtle Beach at Charlie's car, the white Pontiac, was
at GSP Airport, even in her own garage. Weeds that
were never true. The strange comments came pouring out of
Nicole Carver's mouth.
Speaker 21 (19:13):
NICKI posted on Facebook rip to my husband, very suspicious.
(19:44):
We started suspecting someone was using David's account. NICKI was
asking people for money, pretending to be David.
Speaker 17 (20:01):
I also want to note through this investigation, we talked
a little bit about Charlie's weird Facebook messages. They trace
that IP addressed back to where those postings were coming from,
and it was from Nicole Carver's home. On September twenty second,
(20:22):
the police department received Kaylin Charlie's cell phone records and
worked to make sense of them. They showed that Kayla
and Charlie's last phone ping were close to each other.
Speaker 14 (20:54):
Anderson County couple CAYLEB. Brown at Charlie Carver last scene
at Anderson crossing up Anderson.
Speaker 19 (21:00):
Police don't know whether or not something happened to them,
but their families just want them back home. We're worried
about you. This is on you like you, so if
you do see this, how somebody it doesn't even have
to be me.
Speaker 11 (21:12):
Anybody, just let somebody know so that we can stop
worrying about you.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
We're both with the farmer kind of cherifoll.
Speaker 13 (21:34):
We're assisting Anderson City Police Department with the Mission Persons
in Michigan.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
If you have a few minutes that we thought, sure, Hey,
I'm the textave, he's able the city of Anderson.
Speaker 17 (21:45):
I'm the one investigating CAYLEB.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Brown and Charlie Carver's missing person's report.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
Okay, uh you know, Kayla, Okay.
Speaker 16 (21:53):
When we got their phone data back recently, it showed
that they were on a piece of property.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
That you own.
Speaker 20 (21:59):
I hire her out occasionally to clean houses, clean stuff up,
clean up the yards.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
That kind okay, Well.
Speaker 24 (22:05):
About them being on your property the day they went missing, I.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Don't know about that. They came up front, up front.
I've got one hundred acres, oh okay, right through my
offence line.
Speaker 9 (22:18):
I've got I've got trees, and I had a putty
shears and ships.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
But then it was too hot and they they left.
Speaker 19 (22:26):
So we thought you might be.
Speaker 17 (22:28):
Able to help us live where they might have been going.
Speaker 15 (22:31):
Anything, I don't know what's saying.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
Whatever you want.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
Based on the fact that you were the last person
to see that. We have a search form. Okay, okay, okay,
we're mainly looking for your cell phone. I'm just getting
my phones. Well, i'll read the search.
Speaker 25 (22:52):
Don't see it because I think there's the search that
mensions the cell phone and on the other electronic media device.
Speaker 9 (22:58):
Lib up in sights and sharing your business out here.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
One of.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
Taz she's gonna pete.
Speaker 13 (23:19):
No, I was nervous, ask me, hey, don't please, don't
you It's okay, it's okay.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
Just do what you need to think.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Yeah, take care of your dog. Do we want to
scare it? You know, we'll try to make this as
pailess as possible. Thank you. You know, we don't want
to scare your dogs. Yeah, this is where we were at.
So I'll explain this a little more in detail to you.
Speaker 26 (23:46):
Several questions that we asked you, okay, are inconsistent with
what phone records are, communication was.
Speaker 27 (23:55):
Between you and Kayla, locations, times of locations, and things
of that. These people that have not been fat These
people have not been seen since they were acting your promptly.
Speaker 1 (24:09):

has had any contact with them since you had contact
with them.
Speaker 26 (24:21):
We know that there was more of a physical relationship
between you and k Okay. I don't care about prostitution
(24:48):
or I don't care about whatever.
Speaker 20 (24:49):
She's a she and a stripper and she would call
him a need mine, yes, and you would give her
money and she'd give you sex.
Speaker 1 (25:01):

happened at.
Speaker 3 (25:06):

Speaker 1 (25:12):
I mean understand. I didn't want to call any issues
with I don't want to hear work from you. Don't
want the drama goes along with it. God underthink. But
we have a little bit of fun together.
Speaker 5 (25:28):
The night turn to dinner.
Speaker 1 (25:31):

Speaker 3 (27:01):
Put her on your property.
Speaker 1 (27:03):

into just that supporting union. And and that is a
conflict with what you said.
Speaker 25 (27:12):
Okay, we can put you going to the property, leaving
and coming down, and we can put her at the
property beyond.
Speaker 5 (27:25):
That, and in me, I'll have an answering.
Speaker 2 (27:35):

Speaker 5 (31:34):
Wanting a driveway right now?
Speaker 3 (31:36):
Okay, it's along.
Speaker 28 (31:43):
All right, but you begin tonight with breaking news in
South Carolina, where a shocking scene of death and incredible
survival is still unfolding. To this our thirty year old
Caleb Brown found after deputies heard banging on a metal container.
Speaker 14 (32:06):
The owner of that property, Todd Colehep's in custody, in
charge with at least one kind of kidnapping, and it's
pretty horrible.
Speaker 15 (32:14):
We got deputies down there. They came to do the
search one this morning and heard this lady banging on
this container. You know, the main thing is we did
find her live. Thank god. I mean, I don't know
what else to tell you, but thank god. We are
still looking for Charles David Carver.
Speaker 14 (32:34):

Speaker 1 (33:49):
Did he ever tell you how many people lice killed
out there? Story wise?
Speaker 2 (33:56):
He told me about four.
Speaker 5 (34:01):

Speaker 1 (34:10):

According to the corner, the two were buried for at

a white female twenty five years of age. And then

Speaker 15 (35:36):
Miss mcrawl's mother had reported the couple as missing persons
to Eyes back in December of last year. I just
wish things had turned out differently.
Speaker 6 (35:46):
I wish this had never happened, and I really wish
my son was still here.
Speaker 16 (35:53):
The bodies were found, police say, near the metal container
where victim cayleab Brown was found alive with a chain
around turned back.
Speaker 15 (36:02):
We're trying to make sure that we don't have a
serial killer on our hands. This very possibly could.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
Be what we have.
Speaker 22 (36:14):
You like to brag that you a serial killer, had
a mass murderer.
Speaker 7 (36:18):
He said he was going to kill more people because
he had dreams of his BodyCount, thinking three digits, he
said right now, it was still high to he just
He also told me that he walked into a few
years back, that he walked into a bike shop and
Anderson and shop more before and left, and.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
They never found up and did it.
Speaker 9 (36:37):
Apparently everybody's been shot up here.
Speaker 15 (36:40):
I started seeing more blood and more blood.
Speaker 3 (36:47):

Speaker 10 (36:53):
You just gonna be up late tonight.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
Telling me from the very beginning about superbikes.
Speaker 9 (37:01):
A Bottimir recycle from them, had it fourteen days and
it got stolen from the front of the apartment complex.
Before I got stolen, I had gone back to them
a few days prior to being stolen and told them
that I was having a hard time of writing it
and I was not so sure I had made a
wise decision and started going back to the shop, and
I was trying to see if I could possibly trade
(37:23):
it in for a smaller bike, and the manager started
making some comments about great.
Speaker 3 (37:31):
Now I have some more lines, We'll have another one
whould take up. It was implied that we took you
got mad about it. He kept going out there.
Speaker 9 (37:43):
Why I kept going to the same bike place, I
don't really know, but I'd go out there, see the
bikes and listen to these two tops, the owner and
the manager Bottlebird ninety two fs got I had a
Greenville drove down there, put the shoulder holes from when
I was at CBS and drove to the bike plas
(38:05):
bike shot.
Speaker 1 (38:06):
Not everybody was there, sat.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
A few bikes did my usually okay, Now I had
to wait for the other one of the guys wasn't there.
I had to wait for him to come in and
tell me what happened.
Speaker 9 (38:18):
Then see on a black Kawasaki Katana six hundred I believe,
and told him I would take it, at which point
the mechanic took the bike to the back to prepit.
UH proceeded to go to the back mechanics area.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Walked up, put out the barretta, put the safety off.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
So you pulled out the barretta and what happened?
Speaker 9 (38:42):
Shot the mechanic twice.
Speaker 3 (38:45):
Downward angle. He was down, crashed down on this side
of the bike. Mike was here. I'm on this side,
so I had to lean over the bike and got
even to two long shots. I got each longer. Once
I realized that he was no longer a threat.
Speaker 9 (39:03):
I immediately proceeded towards the front of the building. At
that time, all three managed her owner and the mom.
They had heard the gunshots in the back and were
coming this way to figure out what had happened. Mom
was the closest and I shot her two to three
times in the chest, not my best work. She fell
(39:23):
with the owner and the manager ran for the door.
I topped a few rounds.
Speaker 3 (39:29):
And got one of them in the back and he
crumpled in the door, did a tactical reload and dropped
the other one and before he got out the door.
And that was a very fast rambout it. Did they
say anything to you? Was there any conversation? Don't please whatever?
Speaker 9 (39:49):

any of that. I will tell you that once I engaged,
I was engaged.

Speaker 1 (40:03):
I put that going on with sex.
Speaker 10 (40:12):

Speaker 5 (40:22):
And came his details on everything. We made an arrest.
Speaker 24 (40:30):

Speaker 3 (40:32):
No?
Speaker 1 (40:32):
I wouldn't know you know me any better than.
Speaker 6 (40:40):
Wow.
Speaker 17 (40:45):
For thirteen years, the family of a quadruple murder prayed
for answers who shot their loved ones and why he.
Speaker 6 (40:52):
Felt like they were making fun of him, such as
this is too much motorcycle for you. That appears to
be what set him off.
Speaker 24 (41:00):
They dispensed with the lightning fast. He pleaded guilty to
killing seven.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
People Todd Cole.
Speaker 24 (41:05):
He is now serving seven consecutive life sentences, one after
the other. For good measure, He's got another thirty years
tacked on for sexually assaulting Kayla.
Speaker 12 (41:16):
Every day, Melissa Bragman says She's waited fifteen years for
this moment.
Speaker 3 (41:32):

been like had the yet the opportunity to raid.
Speaker 6 (41:41):
Heurse, then there is zero perical damage in all of
our life.
Speaker 2 (41:48):

A crucive day that it has been at all, because
there was always a better way to deal with the.

He was his friend.
Speaker 1 (42:09):
It's been the biggest faith and I don't want anybody else.
Speaker 6 (42:21):
I needed to be able to look at him for
my own peace. It finally hit me that we have
choices still every single day Todd does not. We're still
out here walking, We're still gonna keep making this a
good life for us, and we.
Speaker 10 (42:39):
