(00:05):
Hello, and welcome back to theShamrock Sports Cast. I am Sam,
My name is Evan Cummings, andI'm Adrian. Surprise special guest, Adrian
Wolf will be here today to talksome sports with us. It's gonna be
a fun day. We have afun, unique little idea for you guys.

(00:25):
Um. But Evan, how's yourweek been. It's been pretty good.
Um. I've been with the baseballteam a lot. I also did
some softball in the last week.Um, both teams which have been pretty
successful. Um, one of themmore successful than the others. But um,
I'm just ready to have another greatpodcast. Sam. So, it's

(00:47):
been been a tough week for thebaseball team has and you have You've been
with them every step of the way. Yes, I have. You kind
of fill us in on what whatthe pulse is like for the team right
now. So we are currently ona three game losing streak. I know
that's something that no one wants tohear. But since we last podcasted,
we actually won two games in arow. We beat Cathedral at home six

(01:10):
to five, which was a veryimpressive win. It was something that it
was a resume builder for sure.We followed that with The first game of
the Brownsburg series was a win, seven to zero at Brownsburg. I know
Tye Anderson pitched a gem in thatone. And then Friday we had a
little bit of a weird pitching situationwhere we started Colin Lindsay in the first

(01:34):
inning and then Preston Tam came in. Or was it Preston, I think
it was. It was either Pressonor Nana. Regardless it was not.
It was a good game pitching wise, but we could not get the offense
going. And you'll kind of startto see that trend in these next couple
of games that we're about to talkabout. We lost that game too.
One Monday against Carmel, arguably ourworst game of the season, definitely our

(01:57):
worst game of the season by far. The pitching wasn't there, the offense
wasn't there. We just did notplay good at all and we lost nineteen
to two. And that's all Ireally want to say about that. And
then yesterday, Wednesday's game, thefirst game of the Fisher series, we
lost ten to zero in a runrule. Jack Brown was just a little
too much for us on the moundand at the plate he had a leadoff

(02:21):
or not a lead off. Well, his first abe was a home run
and then he kind of never lookedback. I believe he went three for
three on the day. So thatwas just a really frustrating loss. And
tonight we play the second game ofthe Fisher series. The series as as
a whole got moved up one daybecause of like we are doomed tomorrow for
weather, I don't think any outdoorsporting bets are going to be played.

(02:44):
And then you know, Saturday weplay home at Newcastle. It says a
way on Express, but it's it'shome. Well, that'll be a good
opportunity for the boys to sort ofwrite the ship. Obviously, you know,
it's never fun playing against the bestcompetition. It's never fun. Obviously,
you have to do it, andyou know that's how you gage yourself

(03:06):
against the best teams in the state. But you know, with the emergence
of Carmel this year, and andthink about it too, last year we
put an absolute beat down on theGreyhounds and you have to at least think
that that motivation may have, mayhave you know, help them, help
Carmel, you know, want togive it right back to us. This

(03:27):
year I talked to earlier was thecase. Yeah. I talked to Evan
Rust this year. Um, afterthe game, he was like, I
don't know why everyone's surprises happens everyyear. It's it just flipplops every year
because obviously this year with last nineteento two, last year, every one
nineteen to one, and I believeour sophomore year we got blown out by
Carmel. So, um, that'sthat's a trend that I don't necessarily like.
Um, I don't think anyone reallylikes that a whole lot. But

(03:50):
um, it's it's just something thathappens between two very bitter rivals. So
how about softball? Softball? Oh, let me check, I'm not prepared
this morning, guys. I apologize. Also shout out Aiden. I don't
know why he's just not here thismorning. Got a got a text at
one nineteen am that Aiden would notbe here today, which is good.

(04:13):
We uh we we endorse it whereverhe is at. But um, yeah,
like I said, we're gonna wehave a fun little idea play in
a little bit. But while youlook at softball, Um, I'll talk
a little bit about golf. Yes, yeah, So back to last week
played HSC. Everyone played pretty solid. It was a little shaky down the
stretch, end up getting beat byone with a three oh one. We

(04:35):
we shot a three on one, which is a very respectable score, but
hsc comes firing in with a threehundred. He's by one. Tough loss.
UM, like I said, boysstill played pretty well. Metallist was
Jake Caesar with a seventy two. He's the future, folks, Jay Man.
Jake is good. I'll say that, and you're gonna you're gonna start
to see that trend continue as Ifill in the rest of the weekend.

(04:59):
UM played Saturday up at Warsaw theDon Dicken Invitational, one of our favorite
events of the year. We've wonit eight years in a row, and
the boys came out firing. Wesent out two teams. We sent out
our one through five and then oureleven through fifteen. One through five shot
a whopping two eighty two, whichis two under par, two off the

(05:21):
school record in our first invitation ofthe year. Played really well. Jake
with a sixty eight four hundred orI think it was three under actually par
seventy one, par seventy one,and it was just just a great performance
from the boys. Also our sixthrough ten boys went down to Hickory Stick
for the Trojan Classic I think forSinegro and fired two ninety eight which was

(05:45):
under three hundred two. And likeI said, these were our six through
ten guys. Not many one throughfives can break three hundred in this state,
but our six through ten are doingthe same thing. And that was
a lineup that had consisted of threefreshman Ryan Caesar, who's you know,
the third of the Caesar Boys,Hudson Kochima shout out Hudson and then Mitchell

(06:06):
Keane. Three three freshmen to goalong with that, So that's very impressive.
And boys continued their momentum with awin over Garen and Carmel on Tuesday
at Bridgewater Jake once again the medalistswith a seventy one. Played really well.
Some other shout out Gabe Nixon playedthe six for us that day,

(06:27):
fired a seventy three wow with atriple tripled whole eight, but was able
to birdie enough holes to get backto just one over for the round.
Like I said, big win twoninety two for us, so very solid.
But came out last night played Garenagain and didn't play as well shot
out one. I think it wasone fifty eight and our low score was

(06:50):
a thirty nine, So it's justa not a great performance for us.
But that's okay because we got getthe rebound right back and go up to
Sandy Pine, which is where wewon our regionals last year, and compete
for a title there. So itshould be fun Saturday, will have fun
Day. Also got a JV inviteat Elwood Country Club the Rocks and in

(07:10):
four teams to that one, soshould should be a great weekend. Absolutely
diving into softball now since we've lastseen you guys, it has not been
pretty for the Rock softball team.We went one and four in our last
five. The Wednesday that we didpodcast, we lost to Greenfield Central at

(07:30):
home nineteen to twelve. I wasjust a barn burner of a lot of
offense and not a whole lot ofpitching. And then the tournament in I
believe it was Kankakee Valley is whereit was hosted or maybe League Central.
We went one and two on theday, with our first win coming in
the earlier game, a four threewin over Kankakee Valley. We played at

(07:55):
ten thirty that morning, against Mischewaukamwe lost eleven to eight. And then
the time on here's just three pmfor the Lake Central game, but I'm
pretty sure it was closer to fouror five. Because of weather, it
was twelve. It was a twelveon loss, so obviously not you know,
the pitching that we're looking for.And then Tuesday we lost away at

(08:16):
Fishers two to zero. So Ifeel like a common trend that we're seeing
with the softball and baseball teams isthe offense is slowly deteriorating and the pitching
isn't getting any better. So ifboth of these teams want to make sectional
runs, then they got to stepit up major league. They got to

(08:39):
play like a team. That iscrucial. In the words of baseball coach
Ryan Beanel, playing like a teamis way more important than playing for yourselves.
And it's just don't play selfish baseball. Don't play selfish softball. You
gotta be in it, you know, for for a state championship. You
gotta play for each other's back touh. Some some news with boys and

(09:05):
girls track the distance kids had abig match It's called the Flashes Showcase Miracle
Mile, which is one of themost highly acclaimed matches of the year on
their schedule. A ton of teamsgo and it's one of the most fans
supported recruited events that that you'll seeRocks with a pretty solid performance. Um,

(09:26):
let's go to some highlights here.In the mile race, we had
Colin Lacomac finishing first for Westfield. You finished thirty seventh overall with a four
twenty four mile obviously that's very solid, yes, and just behind him in
let's see here in the four byeight the Rocks finished ninth place with an

(09:50):
eight twenty two, which is onceagain very very solid. Yes, two
mile cumulative race. The girls alsoreformed pretty well for the team four by
eight. They finished in thirteenth witha ten thirty pretty solid. Like I
said, there was a ton ofteams at this event. So and then
some highlights from the one mile race. We had one second it is loading.

(10:16):
We had Liz Smith with a fivetwenty nine finishing in sixtieth place,
pretty solid, with Emily Loizel thefreshman or the sophomore just behind her with
a five thirty two. So obviouslythis uh, you know, these programs
continue to carry off their success thatthey had in cross country and we're seeing
that in track so far this year. Absolutely, When was the last time

(10:39):
we talked about boys volleyball? Lastweek? Last week? All right?
Because we are currently writing a one, two, three, four, five
six seven game one streak and wehave not dropped a set in seven games.
That's this team is dominant, dude. They are there so dominant.

(11:00):
Our last loss was to Fishers onMarch twenty seventh. We are coming up
on a month without losing and itdoesn't look like we're gonna lose at anytime
soon. We have an away gameat Park Tutor tonight and then next Wednesday
and Thursday. Actually next Wednesday,Thursday Friday we have games against Avon,
Perry, Meridian, and Shuitard thatis home, away and home. So

(11:24):
we're looking very strong coming into thelater parts of the year. A tournament
ends out the year for the boysvolleyball team against Roncali Cathedral and Hise.
We beat Cathedral, did not beHSC and I don't think we've played ron
Calli yet. No, we havenot, so that is going to be

(11:45):
very interesting coming into sexuals where yougot to play your best ball. But
this team twelve and two have onlydropped eight sets all year and they've won
thirty eight. That is, ifyou look up dominance in the dictionary,
you see Westfield Boys volleyball, andthat could not be more true. I'm

(12:07):
very excited to to, you know, watch this team progress more than they
already have going into the postseason.Yeah, and keeping it on track.
But for UM, the sprinters,we had a pretty good week at the
sprinter Showcase up at Lafayet Jefferson HighSchool this past weekend. UM shout out

(12:28):
Dylan Walker with two really solid performances. He finished eighth in the men's four
hundred meter with a time of fiftypoint eight eight, which is something that
I don't think either of us coulddo or even come remotely close to.
UM. He also ran in theone and finished in eighteenth. Also Kade

(12:48):
Parker, I think he's a firstyear track runner. This kid has speed.
He is like Lightning McQueen of theWestfield High School. Kcha has speed
kt chaw baby, but he up. He finished in the top twenty of
his two hundred meter race, Soa ton of potential with him and he's
going to continue to get better ashe starts to fill out his frame.

(13:09):
A little bit more, but thatkid is very very fast. On the
women's side, let's see here,we had Lucy Howser in the one hundred
meter hurdles first place with a PRof fifteen point five. That's pretty ridiculous.
And Lucy Howser has continued to dominateat the high school rank. Obviously

(13:30):
we've seen her do this for herentirety of her career with this track program,
and looks like that's not letting up. That's a personal record, is
pretty awesome. She takes after herbrothers absolutely. She also finished with another
PR in the women's four hundred meterwith a one minute, one minute and

(13:52):
two point two one seconds. It'shard to say it is finishing eleventh,
which is obviously incredible. So shecontinues to dominate her ranks. Toby,
the pet two of the women's teamin the two hundred meter, finished six
with the twenty six point two two. Pretty pretty pretty grubby right there,
yes, as well as Princess Campbellwinning the women's varsity one hundred meter race

(14:18):
with a twelve point two two prettyawesome. Great showing from the women's sprint
team as well as the Mail thispast weekend. Absolutely now are you are
you gonna, um introduce this newsegment that we have or I guess it's
a recurring segment, just in adifferent time of year. Yeah, so
this is something we've sort of donein the past, but essentially the two

(14:41):
of us here are going to draftteams in the Spring Sports category based on
how likely we think that they canwin their respective state championship. Yeah.
For instance, football team was verysolid this year. They would have been
they would have been, you know, the first pick in that draft.

(15:03):
Here, we're gonna do it withthe Spring Sports and you know, this
is something that like, you know, it's fun to do and it's exciting
to to talk about because you know, obviously we're still very early in a
lot of these seasons, but atthe at the more macro level, just
sort of, you know, puttingthese teams in, comparing them to their

(15:26):
respective competition in each sport and engagingwhere they're at and how they can use
that to advance far in the Statestournament this year. Yeah, all right,
Um, Adrian will decide who goesfirst, oh, by just like
a coin flip or you can justsay, you can just think of a
number and whoever's closer all right,um, thinking of a number between one
and five, five, four,it was three that you evan, that

(15:54):
usually works some game theory here. You never take the end number, hey,
you know, especially if you're first. I was trying to I was
trying to risk at all. Yeah, I respect it, all right,
who are you taking? So I'lltake first and fourth? Okay? Okay?
And you know, my my rolewith this team makes this pretty clear

(16:15):
and pretty easy for me to do. But I'll take the I'll take the
west Field golf team first of all, currently ranked number one in the state.
We were preseason number one, andum, I think what puts this
team over the edge for me isthe fact that there's so many guys on
this roster that just worked their tailoff. And when there's that many people

(16:37):
who are so bought into the programand bought into every little thing that they're
trying to do to win, itmakes things a heck of a lot more
easy. And um, you know, to be honest, like, I'm
not really too this this team hasnever had the amount of talent that it
has had during my tenure at Westfield, and I would you know, I

(17:00):
would be hard pressed to think thatthey've ever had this much talent collectively on
their team. Obviously, Alex Caesaris a stud. He's going to ball
State. Jake Caesar arguably better thoseyou know, they're very interchangeable brothers,
always going head to head. WillHarvey this is stud. I mean,
those are three guys that are probablyin the top twelve to fifteen of all

(17:25):
golfers in the state of Indiana rightnow, and they're playing our top three.
Plus look at Cam Coy who hasconsistently played at that position and been
so solid as well as you know, just some other some other solid pieces
like Matthew Shul, Ryan Caesar,Jack Harris, plenty of other guys.
This team is so loaded, sodeep, and I think that they're poised

(17:45):
for a state championship run. Withmy number one overall pick I'm gonna do,
I would say if golf was won, this team is no doubt.
Number two. I'm gonna go withthe aforementioned boys volleyball team twelve and two
on the year, Brodie McAfee leadingthe charge with one hundred and seventeen kills

(18:08):
through fourteen games. That is absolutelycrazy. They were preseason favorites. If
you asked anyone around Hamilton County. You would say Fishers it up there,
HSC, but most of them wouldhave said Westfield. We returned so many
amazing hitters and our setter will buyersand even he has some kills. I

(18:33):
believe he's in the twenties and kills. So just that is one team that
I am confident they will go far. I cannot wait to be with them
for their sectional regional state run becausethe trip to Worthen starts in a little
over two weeks. So they're playingtheir best ball now, which is exactly

(18:55):
what they needed to. Their twolosses came earlier in the season. Obviously,
two losses out of fourteen games isnot terrible, but they're both the
conference opponents HC or HCC opponents Hamilton'sSoutheastern and Fishers. At least they got
a set on them. But ifthey're not losing, or if they're not
losing three to one, they're winningthree zero. Just going through their games.

(19:19):
Their first three games of the yearwhere three O wins, the lost
to HSC three to two win overberbuff New pal three O Fishers lost three
one, and ever since then wehave not dropped a set. So you
talk about dominance in a team youtalk about just no mercy, don't let
your foot off the gas. Itis the boys volleyball team, and that's

(19:40):
a mindset that I believe that theywill carry into the sectionals in the state
tournament. So with my number oneoverall, pick the number two overall,
give me the boys volleyball team. And you know, I think there's two
teams that have definitely emerged as thetop two pretty distinctly. So good on
us for picking picking those two.And um, that's not to say like

(20:03):
I think there's plenty, plenty ofvalue going forward with the rest of this
this this draft, but those twowere pretty distinctly some of the most dominant
in their sports. With my secondand final pick, um, I'm gonna
go with the team that I don'tthink it's enough attention or enough love.
I'm gonna go with the girls tennisteam. Now, last year they were

(20:27):
not the greatest. I believe theywere, Um, most of the varsity
guys or girls. I should saywe're first round exits and sectionalist because we
did play carmel Um. But IsabellaNorris made it far and then she promptly
did not come back to the team. This year because I don't want to
say she's too good for the team, but um, her USTA ranking is

(20:52):
so high that it would pay incomparison to anyone on the girls or guys
team of all time. So,um, that was a big loss.
But we still handled that pretty well. We played very well in match play
against conference opponents so far this year. The season is young, um,
but top to bottom, varsity toJV, it is we are very very

(21:15):
good. Granted that you know, you don't see a whole lot of JV
action, but the varsity team isvery very good. And so they are
my number two pick for the teamthat I think could win state. Yeah,
in the spring sports. I likeit. That's very solid. And
you know they've continued to perform thisyear and it's exciting to watch. I'll

(21:38):
stay in the girls realm. We'regonna go with the Westfield girls lacrosse team.
Really Yeah, Now you know thatsurprises me. That's old and and
here's why. This team and mostof these players have the championship pedigree.

(22:00):
Last year they advanced to the statetitle, got beat and it's it's it's
it's easy to argue, like youknow, like some teams can sort of
struggle coming off of that, andand you know, we've we've seen that
at times for this team. ButI think just having that in their back
pocket, knowing that there's so manypeople that have already been in the arena

(22:22):
and already been to the highest levelof a championship game, I think that's
going to serve them well, especiallyas they get into crunch time of the
season. We have Lauren Deine who'san absolute stud, may O'Brien continues to
be so solid, and there's justthis team is very well rounded, and
there's so many girls on this teamthat can help them get to that top
level. And it's going to beexciting to watch him down the stretch.

(22:45):
And like I said, when youget to a place like that, get
to the state championship, that's sortof the expectation going forward. And so
I'm excited to see the potential ofthis team. And you know, obviously,
like now may not feel like that, but I think that as we
sort of progressed through the seasoning continueto get farther on than um, they're

(23:07):
gonna be in good shape just becauseyou know, they've they've already walked that
walk, They've already talked that talk, so they just gotta do it again
exactly, Adrian, any thoughts,I agree? I mean they've had they've
had a pretty good year this yeartoo, just from looking at some of
the stats on Max Prevs. Idon't know much about girls lacrosse, but

(23:33):
yeah, that's fair in love.Um any last words, math, I
don't think so. Um any anyprofessional sports you'll want to dive into real
quick, UM shout out. JalenHurts made a bag this week, made
a bag? Why my goodness? What was the final number on that?
It was two fifty five over fiveyears, So we're gonna pay fifty million

(23:56):
dollars a year. Grizzlies took Gametwo last night, one or three ninety
three. UM, Braves best teamin the MLB. Wow, So we
have a kind of an early twohorse race in the MLB, the Rays
and the Braves. Yes, obviouslyyou're a brave sand so you're a little

(24:18):
bit impartial to that, but justa little bit. Do you think do
you think you guys are distinctly thebest team in the league? Uh,
top to bottom? If you lookat our lineup. Yes, I don't
know how we've lost five games Ibelieve three of our losses are to the
Padres, which is beyond me.But but like you know, we know,
we know what the Padres are capable. Yes, they have a great

(24:41):
lineup, um, they just havenot executed very well so far this year.
Their record does not define them nineand eleven, it does not like
that record does not define them atall. It's early, UM, and
I'm a little scared that the Ravesare kind of using their best stuff now.
I would I would rather save thatfor um later on in the year.
But rate two in our last tenwe have a plus thirty two run

(25:03):
differential. We were way better awaythan at home. Grant, we've only
played seven home games. We playedtwelve away games. But I digress.
And the Rays, I don't know. I just figured they had a really
hot start to the year. I'mnot sure their lineup is all that.
But you can't really say much exceptthere's some really good baseball going on right
now. Shohyotani hit a home runlast night. He also got robbed of

(25:27):
a home run by Aaron Judge, who then hit a home run like in
his next at bat. The finalthat game was three to two in the
Yankees favor. You love games likethat where it's low scoring but you have
some really good offensive highlights, andit's just it's a barn burner between the
two starting pitchers and their bullpens.MLB is gonna be really interesting this year.

(25:49):
Some new rule changes have come outthat, Um, we're really controversial
at first, but I think helpedthe game. Also. My last little
thing on the MLB, man suresor what are you doing? Bro?
What are you doing? You cannothave sticky stuff? Even though he swears
it with sweat and rosin. Idon't. I don't buy that, Max,
I don't. I don't buy that. Um, we're stretching it a

(26:11):
little bit. But we're stretching alittle bit, all right. You got
pulled out for the fourth inning, which those those checks happen between innings like
every inning. I don't know howI'm smissed at the first three innings,
but it's just sort of beyond me. No place for that, no place
for that. Yeah, back tothe Rays. You know you got one,

(26:33):
two, three, four, fiveguys who have um over forty at
bats batting three d better. That'scrazy, it's pretty ridiculous. And three
sixteen and three so they were solike they were twelve and oh and then
had had a had a rough serieslast week with Toronto, but right back

(26:56):
one and two in that series,I believe, are you a red span
at all? Like you follow thema little bit there, I think the
closest team besides maybe the Cubs, but yeah, that's there. They're yikes,
they punked. They punked the Raisthey did earlier this week, but
overall they're not They're not all that. Yeah, I know, I believe

(27:17):
Jacob coulpza Reds fan. I don'twant to give him a hard time.
He had a he had a hardtime, hard enough time as it is.
Um last night, oh boy againstthat Fisher's lineup. Yeah, that's
that was a tough tough been atough week for West of Baseball. But
kind of go went back to that, like, you know, I think
it's good to have that adversity. We talked about this with the basketball team.

(27:38):
We talked about this with the footballteam. But when you go through
that adversity in the middle of theseason, you learn about the capacity of
your leaders. And this team hasa lot of a lot of leaders in
that locker room. And I havefull confidence that they're gonna be able to
pull the guys off the mat andcontinue to top the ship and have a

(28:00):
great season because, like think aboutit, Carmel gets punked by us last
year and you could more or lesssay that they, um, they were
able to, you know, sortof rally back as the season progressed.
But um, and I think thatWestfield's capable of doing the same thing,
especially with the talent that we haveexactly, and I wholeheartedly agree with that.

(28:22):
Um. I'm just looking. I'mstill looking at the standings. I
don't know how the Diamondbacks are leadingthe NL west um with a negative run
differential. Um, No, less, they're on a six and four tear
in their last ten the Dodgers.Bro, they're playing good, aren't they.
Uh, they're playing better. Um, they were terrible to start the

(28:45):
season. There's still nine and ten. Um. I know that's Rowan,
Albert's team. Rowan, Sorry toman what you're doing, bro, Lb.
I know I believe you had anuncle. It was either an uncle
or a cousin that aid on theDodgers. So that's why he's a fan.
That's you, that's me. Ihave a cousin that races a NASCAR.

(29:06):
Yes, um, he actually sorryto brag here. He had two
top fives on his last two races, so I'm just saying out of forty
cars, so it's pretty good.Chase Brisco, you can look him up.
Dang, yeah, no way.So, Um, I actually didn't
know this. Some weird some weirdfacts, you guys, boys more or

(29:27):
less, more or less not asmuch ever since he m he went up
to Cup. But um, Isee him sometimes, it's as as not
as often as I probably should. But yeah, the racer ten and oh
at home, Yeah, that's crazy. Um in that beautiful Bullpark, that's
beautiful, beautiful, that's that's notthe term I would use for that.

(29:49):
Tropicana Field has always been kind ofa weird, terrible place to play,
if you ask anyone that's played there, because at one point they used real
dirt and turn for their outfield, which just did not mix at all.
Yikes. The Royals are struggling thefour and fifteen with one hundred ten runs

(30:11):
allowed through I believe it's nineteen games. Yikes, what are we doing?
Is it too early to think thatthis Rangers team might turn into a dynasty
here? I was just looking atthat. Oh my goodness. They are
young, but they also have veteransthat they needed to have leading the way.

(30:32):
They're on a four game win streakeight and two in their last ten,
twelve and six overall, they arethey're front runners to win the als
right now, and I would loveto see this team in the playoffs.
They're very entertaining. They play, they play with enthusiasm, and they're a
