(00:05):
Hello, Hello, Hello, it'sbeen way too long. How's it going.
I'm Rowan Olbert Drew Taylor, CALLISigler. Welcome to the Shamrock Sports
Cast. How y'all doing doing great? Glad to be here, YEA,
glad to be here. Yeah. Before we start the show, I got
breaking news here. Well, itmight not be breaking to you the viewer,
(00:28):
or the not the viewer, thelistener. Bill Belichick in New England
partying ways mutually. I mean, wow, where do you think he might
end up? I mean we weretalking about earlier the rumors of Alabama.
I don't maybe another coaching job inthe NFL, or possibly a small role
as an OC or DC. Yeah, I kind of agree he I think
(00:53):
he's gonna try to look for thehead coach job. I know most jobs
are kind of taken right now,but like Alabama since Nick Saban also retired
yesterday, So but I think thatNick Saban's jobs to go to a college
coach. Wow. I mean Ithink Belichick. I think he wants a
head coaching job, and I thinkhe wants it in the NFL, and
(01:14):
I think Seattle is a great fitfor him. But also if he can't
get that, which I could totallysee him getting a head coaching job.
It's Bill Belichick, come on.I think I think we talked about it
earlier. Defensive coordinator for the Colts, Gus Bradley. He's awful, So
yeah, I think that would bethat would be great. Anyway, We're
(01:37):
moving on to the real sports akaWestfield boys basketball. How about forty six
in the nation. They've had afew games, but I want to talk
about most importantly Carmel forty four tothirty one. Down go the Greyhounds.
I mean, how good does itfeel? I mean, as Westfield not
(01:57):
only you know, a students here, but fan to take down Carmel again.
I feel kind of arrogant saying this, I really do. It's kind
of becoming like a norm, andwe talked about that on the broadcast.
How in the last couple of years, it's kind of been a shift,
at least in football and basketball. So it feels really good. Definitely to
beat the Greyhounds because for a whilewe really couldn't. Yeah, I think
(02:22):
it's definitely going to beat the Greyhoundsin any sport. You know, they
kind of beat us in soccer andknocked us out there so it's good to
get to win in football and basketball. Yeah. I think in girls and
boys soccer they eliminated us, whichis wild, and you know, I
don't think we'll ever catch up tothem in swimming, but you know,
hey, Carmel took him down fortyfour to thirty one. And with Westfield
(02:47):
overall, just a great performance againfrom Nick Book and Tray bu Cannon,
though last few games he really hasn'tbeen filling up the statue, only three
points. How do you think Westfield'sbeen able to win with trape you can
and not putting up many points.I think it's just the talent around them,
(03:07):
right. The addition of Nick Bookthis offseason was huge, and you
got guys like Charles Ferrell, WillHarvey and even Deronte Morten who's played a
pretty big role on this team thisyear that have all stepped up so that
Trey's not feeling with the stats,he hasn't been as efficient as it would
have probably been last year. Iagree. I think we have great players
(03:30):
and I think that's what makes westfeel so strong is if one player is
not performing, there's they have likebackups and they're ready to perform. Yeah.
Oh, definitely Charles Ferrell, aguy you mentioned. I mean,
if we go back to Yorktown,he had twenty points, had ten points.
We were talking before the game andCharles, I'm like, you're gonna
(03:50):
need I'm gonna need a double doublefrom you. He's like, I got
you, I got you. Heproceeds to drop ten points and how many
is this? None? But hey, he got one half of the of
the deal done, so hey,I'll give it to him. That's fair.
Yeah, that's that's fair enough.I mean, a double double in
a high school game is pretty hard, especially like when Trey b. Cannon
(04:13):
is pretty much the primary ball handlerand then he got Will Harvey in the
mix. Yeah, it's pretty hard. Not only not only that nick book
playmaking in the post. I mean, there were a couple of times where
I'm like, dude, shoot it. Yeah, he's five inches shorter than
you put up and then he'll havewide opened uh Will Harvey in the corner
or something like that. I mean, he has a good vision. Have
(04:36):
their next opponent Friday taking on hscuh led by Donovan Hamilton. He might
may recognize that name from football.Don't know if he's as good of a
basketball player as he is a footballplayer. But d T, you're a
Purdue fan. Man, he's committedto Purdue. How do you feel about
that? I'm really happy to havehim. And Ryan Walter is really for
(04:58):
Purdue, is really kind of turnedtied. So we've actually signed up or
I shouldn't say signed. We've hadfour Georgia players transfer in the last two
weeks, so that's been special tosee as well. Wow, I mean
a Georgia backup is you know andgoing to you know, another school in
general, that's like getting a bigtime recruit. Yes, goes to show
what Kirby Smart has built over atGeorgia, goes to show how you know
(05:21):
great it is. And Westcal yetHSC. This is a game where HSC
they're eight and four, and wetalked about led by Donovan Hamilton and really
overall it's it's gonna be an interestinggame. I will not be there,
uh doing play by play. Itwill be mister Drew Taylor. Yeah,
(05:45):
we have Allen's back there celebrating producerAlan celebrating that I will not be in
attendance. I will be in theGreat State of Florida in Miami. I'm
not gonna tell you what time Ifly out though, that leaving for the
airport. Yeah, Allen, Well, Allen's the only one allowed to track
my flight anyway, HSC they haven'tthey haven't won a conference game. I
(06:12):
mean, how how can they getback on track in the conference and get
a win against Westfield? But notonly that, what has been there?
What has been the reason for theirlack of success in the conference. I
think, first off, the reasonthe lack of success is I think just
a level of competition right in theHCC. It's just different, it's a
(06:34):
different level of play style. Butthe way they can get back on track
is if they are able to pickup a win Friday night at on the
road against West Hill. That wouldtotally change everything. Right. So if
they can do that, and theway they do that is if they hit
contested threes they contain Nick book inthe post and really for west you have
(06:55):
to you have to lock up onthe perimeter because they can shoot. They
can do all those things. Theycan get the season right back to where
they want it to be. No, I couldn't explain any better than dree
Goold and No. Going back totheir last game of four point loss to
Warren Central and overall led by DonovanHamilton of course, seventeen points at HSC.
(07:16):
They will be a tough cookie forWestfield indeed, But no Westfield.
Last time these two teams played,Westfield getting the win at HSC. But
no, you talked about the HCC. It's just different overall. And rumor
has it Carmel might be joining themix. I mean, it's only going
(07:39):
to get harder from here. Butno HSC. I'm looking at the schedule
right here, and they've really notThey haven't had a super tough schedule other
than a couple of games like Fishers, which of course they lost. I
mean, Fisher is probably the topteam in the state, and by the
(08:00):
way, that's going to be amatchup I'm looking forward to Westfield and Fishers
later on in the year. Ithink that might is that early February,
late January, something like that Februaryfirst, that's at Fisher's right. It's
weird because I looked at the scheduleon the poster and it said it was
(08:20):
a home game, but on MaxPreps it says it was an away game.
I'll figure it out either way.I would love to do that game
Anyway, now that we got itall done, how can Westfield take down
HSC and advance to ten and oh, which they have not done I don't
think ever. I don't think they'veever started ten and oh, how can
(08:43):
they get hot early? And howcan they take down HSC. Well,
that's exactly what they need to dois get hot early. And the way
they can do that is it allruns through Nickbook. Right If they can
get in the post and he canget those post shots right away, that's
an easy bucket. But if hecan kick it out and they can get
get hof from the three point lineearly on, which is something they really
didn't do early on against Carmel, which is why Carmel was able to hang
(09:07):
around a little bit longer than wekind of expected them to. They can
do all those things. I thinkit's gonna be a long night for the
Royals. Yeah. I think Westfieldneeds to stop Hamilton and then that really
brings up Westfield's game because Hamilton's theirstar. And for Westfield, I think
Nick Book get Will Harvey on thethree and also try you know, Trey
needs to get heated up, andI think this game could be a good
(09:28):
game for him. To get backinto his rhythm. Mhmm, yeah,
I concur I will actually also givemy thoughts on this as well. I
think pick and roll with Nick Bookthat's just gonna be so I can't find
the word that's going to be soessential to getting this win. Because Nick
(09:50):
Book and the pick and roll, how do you stop a guy who's six
foot eight, I mean you can't. You don't find that very often.
And you know Trey by Cannon. You can have him be the ball handler,
Charles Ferrell. Either way, NickBook, get him open, even
pick and pop. The guy canshoot the three. He doesn't take many
(10:11):
threes, probably like won a game, but he usually hits it. I
mean, the guy can do itall, which I mean, no shocker,
he can shoot. I mean hewas a guard at Okill, Yeah,
which talks which you know now,I'm not gonna throw shade at Okill.
I was about to, you know, talk about maybe like mismanagement,
which I just mentioned right here, but I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna
(10:33):
throw shade at Oakill. They're anelite school. They have to produced some
elite players, that's for sure.Yeah, yeah, yeah, Just just
Kevin Durantz Carmelo Anthony and No No, No, one Big. Before we
move on from this game, Ithink I could just ask for the basic
score prediction. I'm going I'm notgoing to go a bit further. I
(10:54):
think we all are going to sayWestfield is going to win, because very
winnable game for west Field, especiallywith the opponents they faced. What's your
biggest hot take for the game.I think for Nick Book, he's gonna
get over twenty five. I reallydo. I don't. I don't think
HSC has anybody that can really containhim. I think he's just gonna be
one of those nights, and Ithink the Rocks are gonna pick up pretty
(11:16):
easy victory. I think Trey's gettingheated up. I'm gonna put him.
He's gonna have at least five threes. Wow, at least five, I
mean, I mean maybe he's beenthe past couple of games, he really
hasn't been shooting much. I mean, maybe that's he's saving it up for
HSC. My hot take, I'mgoing to say there's a couple. I
(11:37):
have one of them. Donovan Hamiltonunder ten points. I think he gets
contained by Charles Ferrell. Ferrel anincredible defensive player. And my other hot
take, Deronte Morton for the firsttime gets above twenty points. Derontay Morton,
the guy can attack the basket sowell. He's one of the most
(12:00):
and entertaining players I've seen at myat my time in Westfield, and I've
watched guys like Brayden Smith and CamHafner. I mean, come on,
this guy has so much energy andthe way like he can attack the basket
draw fouls, it's so entertaining towatch. And also on defense, he's
so good. Say at Deronte Morton, expect him to get over twenty Noblesville,
(12:24):
though, I do want to talkabout next week Wednesday, the seventeenth,
The Noblesville game at Noblesville previously gotrescheduled because a couple guys on the
team got sick. By a couple, I mean most of them. And
Noblesville, now this is a teamthat ended Westfield season. Do you think
(12:45):
that Westfield that the emotions are stillyou know, going through their mind and
they still you know, are youknow? How do I reef? How
can I guess? How can Westfieldput the emotions aside from the elimination,
but also could that benefit them?I think it's for the best at this
(13:09):
moment for them to put it tothe side because it's in the postseason.
This is just a regular game. However, that was devastating, right,
and I think it's still it's definitelythere. Yeah, So for Westfield coming
out attacking the nobles is gonna beable to play at the pace they're gonna
be able to play at. It'sthat this is a good Noblesville team.
So for Westfield, making tough shots, locking up around the perimeter and playing
(13:31):
at their pace is what's what's whatthey're going to have to do to win
this game. Yeah, I agree. I think the emotions are definitely still
there, but I think Westbook cankind of use this as an opportunity as
like a revenge shit, put everythingout in the court and to really show
them what they're what Noblesville should expectin this postseason. Yep, yep.
And now let's move on to thegirls. Man forty five thirty nine loss
(13:56):
to Hamilton Heights. Me and DTwe were doing like a double head type
of thing, yeah, which Ithought was really cool. We had the
girl's game at twelve, forty five, boys game at eight. You two,
you got a doubleheader on your handsFriday, I mean, good luck.
We're excited. Yeah, yeah,I'll definitely be watching for free.
(14:18):
Going back to the Westfield Hamilton Heightsgame, Cameron Runner for Hamilton Heights thirty
points. I mean, she wasgoing into this game averaging twenty six.
What was really behind Westfield's inabil inabilityto stop Runner? I don't know if
(14:39):
Westfield had seen a score like Runnerall season. I mean you think,
like, okay, if we canlock her up around the perimeter, we
should be good. But she couldtake him you off the dribble, and
she was making contested threes or contestedshots. And then the issue with that
is Hamilton Heights also had ball handlersthat could take care of the ball and
score without Runner. So really Ithink it was just all around. Hamilton
(15:03):
Heights was just on a different level. Yeah, I agree. You know,
Cameron Runner, she's a great player. You can find her in the
painter outside the paint shooting, andWestfield they've, like Drew said, did
not face somebody as like Cameron Runner. And I think Cameron Runner knew what
to do with the ball. Sheknew when to shoot and she knew when
not to shoot, and Hamilton Heightskind of came in with the play.
(15:24):
They held the ball sometimes for thirtyor more seconds, and that kind of
throws Westfield off. So if I'mWestfield, I think we have to be
prepared for Cameron Runners as we goon in the season, because they'll probably
gonna be more like her. Yeah, and that reminded me, Like you
mentioned them holding onto the ball, that reminded me of Noblesville, which I
(15:48):
was there alone out. Yeah,it was a dramatic pause. Yeah,
I was there alone. Yeah,Noblesville they beat Westfield that game. And
not only that. In Noblesville theywould hold on to the ball for what
felt like two minutes. And butyou talked about, you, Drew,
you talked about, you know,Hamilton Heights having Cameron run her great score.
(16:12):
Westfield wasn't, you know, quiteuse to her. Well, they
better get used to good scores.I mean, look at Maya McClusky.
Yeah, yeah, look at Mayamclusky averaging twenty seven and a half points
per game. And I guess whatcan Westfield do with her that they didn't
(16:33):
do with Cameron Runner. I wouldsay I feel like even though they played
contested defense around the three, pointline on runner, she was still able
to find separation. Westfook cannot lether find separation or else it could be
be long night. Because she's oneof the probably one of the most elite
scorers in the HCC. So forWestfield they got to be able to contain
(16:57):
her. But also HSC has othergirls that can handle the ball and perform
at a high level like her,So really just containing her and finding the
ways to guard those other pieces.Yeah, I agree. I think we
have to push them out of theircomfort zone. We can't let them get
too comfortable and a three point arein the paint. We need to really
just put defense and get them outso they are not on fire all night,
(17:21):
and that could happen. Yeah,And going back to HC as a
team overall, sixteen and one, talk about an unreal record and they're only
loss oddly enough, I mean,I'm kind of shocked by this Columbia City
beating them by sixteen points despite MiyaMcClusky having twenty nine points in that game.
(17:48):
Just overall, what do you thinkWestfield's game plan should be for given
HSC loss number two. I thinkthey just have to find ways to contain
Miya McClusky, also Kennedy Holman. She's pretty elite to on the fast breaks.
They like to get her out onthe wing for layups and for open
threes. They have to be ableto play at the pace HC plays at.
(18:12):
Just something I feel like Hamilton Heightsreally won them the game was their
ability to pace, slowing down eachpossession, making or finding those shots they
wanted. So they have to beable to contain what HSC wants to do.
I agree, And for Westfield, every shot matters in this game because
HC is gonna go a hard oldgames. So if you're Western, do
(18:33):
you have to take smart shots toget points just to kind of keep up
because they're just going to keep going. Yeah, but yeah, yeah,
you definitely have to take smart shots. And I would say a very smart
shot would be Yeah. Reagan Lorenzen, we talked about it last week,
committed to Rose Holman. Perfect forher, but not only that, just
(18:56):
going back to her game in general. She can shoot the three when relied
upon. I think that would bea smart shot. But also Ellie kellerher
attacked the basket, she can drawfouls. She had an and one against
Hamilton Heights. So yeah, thereyou go. HSC. They they haven't
won, they haven't lost. Sorry, HC. They haven't lost a conference
(19:19):
game all year, five and zeroat first in the conference, by far,
I think in many people's eyes.I mean Westfield. They did play
Laurence Central, which their top threein the state. HSC might be the
best team Westfield's played all year.Do you think intimidation might play a factor
(19:40):
into this one? I think itdefinitely does because you look at all the
talent HSC has around them. Imean, I just think Westfield really,
I know Hamilton Heights is definitely likea modified version of this, but all
around talent, HSC is by far, and it's like that in volleyball too.
They're probably one of the best teamsin the state. Yeah, and
if you're a west found you you'vebeen preparing all week and you're getting kind
(20:03):
of reminded of how good HC reallyis. So going into the game,
there's probably something like there's probably lotsof pressure because HC is a great team.
Yeah, Like, yeah, withgreat players like McCluskey. She's an
IU commit, and you know,IU girls basketball last year had a great
run. Maybe with when they addher. She's only a junior, so
(20:27):
when they add her in the nextfew years, maybe they make a final
four that would be fun to watch. But I'm gonna ask you the same
question that I asked with the Boysgame. What's your biggest hot take for
this matchup? My biggest hot take, and I feel bad saying this is
(20:48):
I think Ellie kell Her gets heldto under ten points. I think HSC
is gonna run wild with this one. There's too much talent all around,
with Miya McCluskey, the Ie,you Commit, Kennedy Holman, everybody around.
I think too much for them tohandle. Yeah, I think my
hot take is it's gonna be It'skind of it's not like a best hot
take, but I think Reagan andEllie Kellerher are gonna have a coom Pine
(21:12):
twenty five points. I mean, yeah, it's very well possible. We
saw against Bishop Chatar they they bothheat it up, and it showed that
they can both be hot at thesame time, and you know, the
ball can be shared by both ofthem. And Reagan Lorenz and I feel
like she's more of a spot upshooter too, and Ellie Kellerer is a
(21:34):
great playmaker. So she can getLorenz and open no problem. My hot
take Samantha Price four blocks. Icould totally see her having just a I
wouldn't say a breakout performance because she'shad great performances all year. I could
totally see Samantha Price just having thatperformance like you see it on YouTube,
(21:56):
like in your YouTube recommended where it'slike the game that the world knew about
Stephen Curry or the game that theworld knew about Tyree Salburton. I think
the HSC game will be the gamethe world knew about Samantha Price and Yep,
Saturday though playing it back to back, they're going up against Indian Creek.
(22:17):
Do you think playing on I meanplaying Friday night but then playing Saturday
afternoon do you think how much doyou think that affects their fatigue overall?
I think it only affects them alittle bit just because it's in the afternoon.
If it was a morning game,I think there'd be a little bit
more fatigue. But because of howmuch they practice in the time they put
in, I think they're well training, not to where I think it doesn't
(22:40):
really affect them. Yeah, Idon't know. I think if they lose
it definitely affects them, like mentally, but physically. I don't think you
know, we saw them have atournament overbreak that was back to back,
so I think it shouldn't affect himthat much. Yeah, I mean yeah,
going back to that tournament. Yeah, they did play back to back,
(23:00):
back to back nights. Yeah, they won the first one, lost
the second one to Northrope fort waynNorthrope. So yeah, it definitely could
play a factor. But now let'smove on from that. Let's talk about
swimming. Yeah, the boys andthe girls overall, going back to their
last performance against Zionsville last weekend, just not a great performance at all.
(23:25):
One hundred and twenty one to sixtytwo for the boys and for the girls
one hundred and thirty five to fifty, which that's just brutal. I talked
to a couple of girls on theteam and they were embarrassed. But I
would say, just my question foryou all is how can this team mentally
(23:48):
recover from these both of these verytough losses here. I mean, I
can start, I think, reallywhat I would say is just put that
in the past. But let thelet the past be the past, and
just and just keeps swimming, butat the same time learn from your mistakes.
(24:12):
It's very well just could be likeZiins, well, they are a
good team overall. It could bejust you know, they have you know,
just better faster swimmers. That verywell could be. They have a
great opportunity tonight at home against GaronKatholic to get back on track. I
think they totally could. It's atthe Westfield a Quaid Center. Uh go
(24:33):
check it out tonight, It's seniornight, and I think they have a
perfect opportunity to bounce back. Ithink just you know, getting in the
pool at five am, doing thedoing the little things is going to get
them back on track. Yeah,I agree. I think just learning from
your prior mistakes but also knowing howto correct them. If they can do
(24:55):
that, keep their heads up.I know season hasn't really gone the way
they've wanted it to for the mostpart, but if they can just in
my Chicago Bears did it in someways, We started off really bad and
there was kind of just a changethe momentum. Also with the addition of
Montest sweat that changed things. Somaybe with the maybe they need something tonight
for give them a little momentum andturn the tide and then he finished really
(25:18):
bad. Yeah well, yeah, yeah, yeah we did. I agree.
I think if you're a swimmer,you shouldn't let you know the season
how it has went really gets youdown, because like that's just more pressure.
You're just putting more pressure on yourselfby remembering what happened last week,
you know. I think that's whenyou go in and you do the extra
practice and you do the little thingsand you change that and that could be
(25:41):
the thing that puts you over thetop in the next meet. Yeah.
That's like one of my favorite quotesfrom Peyton Manning is the little things end
up being the big things. Andthat's just you know, getting at it.
And yeah, I know coach Thomasy won't allow this team to slump
for very much longer. And now, moving on from that, I do
(26:02):
want to ask you all a nationalsports question to end the show. We
got the NFL playoffs coming up.What is your Super Bowl matchup and your
Super Bowl winner as of right now? What you got? I feel so
bad because this is extremely basic, but it's genuinly what I'm feeling. I
got the forty nine ers and theRavens and I may change that later on
(26:26):
before Saturday, but as of rightnow, I have San Francisco winning.
I think with the level talent SanFrancisco and has built up, and with
the coach like Cayl Shanahan and aquarterback like mister irrelevant Rock Perty. He's
battle tested and he knows what ittakes. So I think San Francisco has
that roster and has that talent towin it all. I'm sticking with what
(26:48):
I said on the sportshow. I'mgoing with the Battle of the Reds Kansas
City Chiefs versus forty nine ers,and I want the forty nine ers to
win, but I really hope theydo. I'm cheering for Brecker, you
know, coming from Mystery Relevant fromIowa State. You know, that's something
that puts a program literally, hegives them a name, and I think
Rock Party can do that. Yeah, I mean totally not only Party,
(27:14):
but also like Breise Hall too, what he's been doing with the Jets Iowa
State. They're starting to I'm notgonna say breeding NFL talent, but they're
getting some pretty good NFL names inthe you know, NFL world. I'm
gonna have to agree with Drew hereBaltimore Ravens and forty nine Ers. I
know, it's basic. They're boththe one seed, the YadA YadA ya
don't care. Forty nine Ers.I think they're gonna end up beating Baltimore.
(27:40):
And it's because for years now,I've been saying they are a quarterback
away. They need a quarterback,an elite quarterback, to put them over
the hump. They got that guyin Rock Party. Rock Party, in
my opinion, really not the MVPof the NFL, but I think he's
in the top three. I thinkLamar Jackson might be my MVP pick as
(28:00):
of right now because Baltimore, Imean without Lamar, we saw it last
year. Thank guy. He's beenhealthy this year, but last year we
saw they were a completely different teamwithout them. Lamar is an unreal talent,
but I think the forty nine ershave the overall, just a complete
team that will get it done.I mean offense, offensively, they're stacked,
(28:22):
and defensively they're completely stacked. It'sunfair, I mean, especially upfront
when you got guys like Chase Young, Nick Bosa. Not even fair.
I'm gonna go forty nine ers here. Yeah, and before we end the
show. Does anyone have anything elseto say? BDHST this week for Westfield,
Yeah, totally. I disagree withKelly. I have one last thing
(28:45):
to say, Nick Saban, comeon the pod. Peace,
