(00:06):
Hello, Hello, Hello, Welcometo the Shamrock Sports Cast. I'm Rowan
Elbert, joined by my man DrewTaylor. Cali Siegler couldn't be here today
unfortunately, so Drew Taylor is withme alone, one on one, just
the boys today. Man, howyou feeling good? Glad to be here?

(00:28):
Miss? So what's about? Ofcourse, I do want to apologize
for a last week's episode, notmaking it out a bit of a discombobulation,
if you want to call it that. So we'll get that all score.
Okay, okay, do you reallydo? You want to know what

(00:50):
really happened? You got it?So Allen's computer broke. Our producer his
computer broke, like right out afterwe were done recording the episode, and
then he didn't get fixed until Monday, so it would have been too late
by that point. I apologize.I don't know how many of you actually

(01:12):
listen to this, so I doubtany of you care. And let's move
on. Man. Tonight, We'vegot a big game Westfield Fisher's boys basketball.
It's going down. But first Iwant to talk about their last game
victory, College Prep, winning byfifty eight points. It was so bad

(01:37):
that Trey b Cannon had twenty threepoints in the first half, and they
took him out after that. Theytook all the varsity guys except for Rauch
and Hafner out for the second half. The second half was really a JV
game, and even our JV guyswere really given it to him. Just

(01:59):
Drew, you were there, youwere running the camera, I was on
play by play. Just what wasgoing through your head watching that punishment?
Almost you feel kind of sympathy forVictory College Prep in a way, but
also for Westfield. I think Istill feel like that Brownsburg losses in their
heads a little bit, So Ithink it was good for them to come

(02:21):
out and just annihilate a team andthe way they did, and it kind
of gave our gave our JV guyssome good reps, so they kind of
know what it's like to compete ona VRC stage. So all around is
a great team performance. Oh yeah, totally. And not only that,
I mean coach Sumpter, it's thebiggest point margin of his career of winning

(02:45):
fifty eight points. I think atone point it may have been sixty three.
Just unreal. Trabue Cannon though Ithink he had he had seven three
pointers and he had he has theschool record with ten already. He had
that against Frankfurt last year. Wereyou hoping that he was going to go

(03:06):
back out there and break the recordin half number two? I really was,
But I understood why he why theydidn't need him to go back out
there. He obviously don't want torisk injury. But yeah, I wanted
him to break his own record becausethat'd be a cool stateline for sure.
Oh yeah, And like I talkedto Trey the other day and I was

(03:27):
like, were you thinking about goingback out there? And he was like,
if I didn't have the record already, I would have gone out there
and broken it. But since Ialready have it, you know, I
didn't need it. And honestly,I don't blame him one bit. But
moving on from that complete annihilation Westfield, they're on a three game win streak.

(03:50):
They beat Avon the night before inpretty impressive fashion. I mean Avon
was held to zero points in thesecond quarter, which is quite impressive.
But I think tonight they've got theirhardest opponent yet, the Fishers Tigers on
the road, and just looking atFishers without Jalen Harrelson, a guy they

(04:14):
lost the last year, a fivestar prospect, and now their team they've
gotten better without him. Why doyou think that might be. I think
without having like a primary guy likehim, I think that Fishers they have
more guys coming together, and Ithink a lot of it's been led by
Keenan Gardner. I think he's beena big help. Jonathan Hall, Cooper

(04:39):
Zachary, the freshman phenom. Imean that's really I think that's what it
comes down to. Oh yeah, totally. I mean, yeah, John
Anthony Hall, a guy that probablymore well known for football, but still
a great basketball player. Keenan Gardner, a guy who's represented his country or
represented Germany. I represent Germany inthe U sixteen European Championship for FOBA,

(05:05):
so that's really cool. But aguy that always gets underlooked for Fishers is
a Tayden Metzger a guy who's committedto Huntington, just all out great performer.
I'm I'm very excited for this gametonight. We got the eighty eighth
ranked team in the country in Westfieldand Fishers ranked eighty fifth. I'm really

(05:30):
looking forward to it. You comeinto the game tonight, I will probably
be in attendance. Yes, ohyeah, I mean we may or may
not be broadcasting it on IHSAATV nopromises, but yeah, I'm I'm definitely
looking forward to it. Going backthough, Fishers, they've they've beat Westfield

(05:51):
seven times in a row, unreal. They're looking for their eighth straight win
against Westfield. How can Westfield,I guess do you think they have that
stat in the back of their mind? But if not, just how can
they get past Fishers tonight? Ithink that stat is definitely in the back

(06:11):
of their mind because it's kind ofbeen domination really by Fishers these the last
couple of years. And for Westfill, what they need to do tonight is
establish nickbook and the paint right away, but also start hitting early, whether
that's Caleb Wise, Trevucannon, WillHarvey, and honestly Dernte Morton. He
can shoot from deep as well.It hasn't been showcase, yes, but

(06:34):
I've seen him in practice and stufflike that. So getting those guys established
early and defensively got contain Keenon Gardnerand all their elite scores. And that's
a tough task. I know,Like I watched tape on Keenan Gardner last
night. The kid all you haveto do is lob it up to him

(06:55):
in the paint and they can't containhim. I mean, it's it's if
you're a fan of defense, it'svery hard to watch. But I'm a
big, a big fan of elitescoring bigs and I love watching him play.
But I remember last year we didthe Westfield Fishers game in this very
room. It was me and aSam Mefford, former Shamrock sportscast co host.

(07:24):
We did the game on play byplay together. Very fun time,
and I remember Garner being a guythat, you know, it was kind
of just a role player. Heaveraged about eight points per game, now
averaging about seventeen and a half.I mean, he's definitely one of the
most improved players, not only inthe state of Indiana, but might I

(07:48):
add the country. Yeah, Imean he's definitely stepped up in a huge
way, that's for sure. Yeah. Not only that, I mean you
talked about Cooper Zachary, you havea bit of a connection with him.
Yeah, in my opinion, oneof the best freshmen in the state of
Indiana. And not only that,I remember watching him as an eighth grader

(08:11):
last year kind of like at likenot the AAU circuit, but like just
at Graham Park and all that, and thinking, man, he's going to
be really good. I didn't catchhis name. I just saw him play,
and then I remembered what he lookedlike. I was watching the tape.
I'm like, oh, that guy, And you know, I'm quite

(08:33):
impressed. He's a very good twoway player. Just what do you know
about him that you know, alot of people maybe don't. So back
in the day, I'm gonna sayabout fourth fifth grade, there's an MSHTV
camp. I don't know if Isaid that correctly, but he was a
fourth grader playing up with sixth gradersand at that level that there was a

(08:56):
big, big gap and he wasdominant. There's a couple of mixtapes he
played at Indie Hoops, a lotof mixtapes out there, and even at
Fall Creek, like he had Jim'spacked to see him. And so really
his whole life, he's been steppingabove and that's really what shows as just
only a freshman getting mints on areally good Tigers basketball team, yeah,

(09:20):
I mean not only getting minutes, being you know, pretty much being the
starting point guard. I mean,I haven't really seen a freshman in a
long time get the reps that he'sgetting at a school that's like top five
in the state. I mean,it's very rare to come by. But

(09:41):
No, tonight will be game ofnot only the week in the state of
Indiana, but it might be gameof the night in the country. I
could be wrong, but I mean, why wouldn't it be. In my
opinion, these are I'm gonna takea set back from what I was about
to say. I was about tosay the two best teams in Indiana,

(10:05):
but then you got, you know, accounts for Lawrence North. How they
have like four or five guys whoare averaging ten or more points per game.
It's unreal what they're doing there.Unfortunately, I don't think we're gonna
get a Westfield Lawrence North matchup. That would have been incredible. But No,

(10:26):
Man, Westfield Fishers tonight, it'sgoing to be a great night.
But Nick Book against Keenan Gardner, that's the matchup I'm really looking for.
How can one of those guys getout on top of the other. Well,
one of them is gonna have tobe able to shut down the other.
And that's that's hard because you they'reto you two elite scoring bigs,

(10:46):
Nick Book and his versatility. Imean he can score on the pay.
He can shoot from deep. Imean that shot we saw it on the
Sports Show where he banked it inwith like I don't know what a second.
Yeah, yeah, it was likeI think point five. Yeah,
like that was. That was crazy. So tonight one is gonna have to
establish themselves as the score and thennot only that, but you have to

(11:07):
be able to contain the other onein his specialties. Oh I know,
and like Nick Buck other than FlorieBadounka, I think that's going to be
the hardest opponent for him, thehardest matchup all year. I think Gardner
Will would probably be number two onthat ranking. He's guys work cut out

(11:30):
for him. Tonight. It's it'sit's gonna be fun. But what what
is tonight Your biggest hot take forthe game Tonight? I think my biggest
hot take. I think Trey's gonnaget another twenty three tonight. I think
Trey he wants. I mean,I bring this up quite a bit,
but we had I talked to himlast year in April intro to calm try

(11:52):
to and he told me he wantedto finish top five in the Mister Basketball
running as a senior, and it'shis time he's got he's gonna be able
to shine, and I think Ithink he's gonna prove that tonight. I
think he very well could. Iwill give you a hot take, and
I'm gonna say it on the Fishersand and the Westfield end. I think

(12:13):
Tayden Metzger and Trade Buchanan combined forabove forty five points. I think they're
both going to go off. TaydenMetzger is a guy I've been watching for
quite some time. Last year,he got a lot of very valuable experience.
He as a sophomore wasn't really gettingthe minutes he deserved. Now as

(12:35):
a junior, he's up here inthe starting lineup now a senior going to
Huntington. He's going to have abig game tonight. I'm looking forward to
the matchup. Do you think Westfield'sgonna come out on top? Oh?

(12:56):
I could really It's really one ofthose I could see going an other way,
but we're on a Shamrock sportscast,so I'm gonna take Westfield. I
think it's be extremely close, andI'm gonna go Westfield sixty two Fishers fifty
nine. Not so fast there,my friend. I think Fishers is just

(13:18):
an unreal team when it comes totalent, that they're a very deep team.
I think that that's what they don'tget credit for and honestly, the
star power for them, they mightnot have as much as like the top
heavy talent that Westfield does. Idon't think they have a true other than
I think Keendon Gardner for sure isa D one level player. I don't

(13:43):
think they have as much D onetalent as Westfield. I mean, John
Anthony Hall will be going D one, but not for basketball. I don't
think that Westfield has quite the depththat Fishers has, especially when you're accounting
for you Charles Ferrell might not playtonight, Carson Melvin that might not play

(14:03):
tonight either, you're accounting for that. I'm gonna take Fishers in a very
tight game. I'm gonna go sixtyone to fifty eight. I would love
to be wrong. Prove me wrongtonight, guys, prove me wrong.
Moving on from that, though, the girls basketball came to a tragic end.
Okay, that was a little overdramatic. Came to an end in

(14:28):
the first round of Sectionals, gotdefeated by HC fifty two to twenty one.
I mean, HSC is a teamthat's always had their number, but
drew. What do you think wentwrong for Westfield, especially when they started
the year twelve and five and endedthe year thirteen and eleven. What went

(14:54):
wrong there? I think they justthey got out to very good start and
I think it just caught them.I think the teams they played, I
mean we we saw with Hamilton Heightssome of these teams there was just a
different level of talent they had,so it's hard to compete because Wessell didn't
Ellie Killer a great player, butthey didn't have they didn't have your Cameron

(15:18):
Runner, they didn't have your MayaMclusky, they didn't have that, so
that that could make for difficulty. But also at HSC, I mean when
we saw that draw, we knewit's gonna be hard. So an HSD,
that's one of the best girls teamsin the state for sure. Oh
I know, I wouldn't be shockedif they won state. And you know

(15:39):
that's just me. I think theWestfield girls team there, they were okay
in the final stretch of the year. But at the end of the at
the end of the day, therethere there are levels. You know,
we're not We're not on their levelsimply enough. And I think it a

(16:00):
thing that we were missing is wedidn't have a high level efficient score And
I think Ellie Keller her is ahigh level scorer, but let's be honest,
she wasn't efficient. I mean fortypercent from the field. You don't
want that from your top player. And honestly, she was great all year.

(16:22):
She was a very high level scorer. She came out when you needed
her to have a big time performance. She was incredible on defense, but
she gotta be more efficient at theend of the day. And Westfield they
didn't have that really from anybody,I mean other than down low. I
mean, Samantha Price was quite efficient, vandyke was it was pretty efficient too,

(16:45):
but other than that, it justwasn't there really. But next year
kind of a bit of a preview. No Ellie Keller Her, no Kiki
Loveless, no Reagan Lorenzen. That'sthree starters gone. How do they fill
the gaps? Well, if youlook to their bench and they're more of

(17:08):
their JV roster. I'd expect acouple of things. One, Mikayla Hatcher
to take on a much bigger role. I think she can legitimately be I
think she can very well establish herselfin this hs HCC conference. I think
Alyssa Price or Samantha Price, sorrySamantha Price will get a lot more minutes,

(17:33):
for sure, and I think sheI honestly think she should have gotten
more minutes than she did. AndI also think you've got some girls under
JV roster. They can maybe fillthose roles of some of your key bench
role players, but at the endof the day, they're losing a lot,
that's for sure. Yeah, Iknow, I'm expecting next year the
five to be something like Mikayla Hatcher. I gotta think about that, Aubrey

(18:03):
Crockett, Lindsey Van Dyke, SamanthaPrice, and then that fourth starter.
That's when it becomes pretty hard. You could go Meg Hamilton, but I
feel like that would be like waytoo much of like a small ball type
of thing. You know, that'shard. I don't know who the fourth

(18:25):
starter will be. It could besomebody from the JV team. It could
be like a Kate Row You know, I think that's who that fourth starter
should be because I feel like attimes with Westfield this year, although at
times it was very beneficial to havethree very good ball handler ball handlers like
Van Dyke, Crockett and keller Heron the floor together, at times I

(18:51):
feel like maybe that's not what theyneeded on defense, you know, even
though I think Crockett and keller Herare both very good defenders, I don't
know if that was the right fit. But at the same time, there
are three of the five best playerson the team. I think they should
be out there together in the startinglineup. So I'm not gonna, you
know, discredit them. I don'tknow who that fourth starter is going to

(19:15):
be, and I won't be hereto find that out. That's gonna be
your thing, Yeah, I meanthat. I'll definitely we'll see what happens
in it. It'll be it'll befun to see, for sure. I
mean, you can do those grossplay by plays. It's it's it's a
it's a good time. Oh yeah, And what was your favorite moment though

(19:38):
from the season. I don't Idon't want to sound selfish here, I
really don't. When I did myfirst play by play getting to see and
it's not even about the play byplayers getting to see my mclusky. I
believe that's how you say it.Yeah, Yeah, she was just a

(20:00):
really cool It was really cool tosee her because she was just so dominant
and you enjoyed washing her play forso many different reasons, just her ability
to score, how she used hersize and everything like that. It was
cool to see. Yeah. Myfavorite memory, though, I'm gonna keep
it. I'm gonna keep it.I'm gonna keep it Green, I'm gonna

(20:21):
keep it Westfield. I'm gonna goback to the opener of the year when
they beat North Central by twenty andthen Reagan Lorenzen I think she had twenty
three points. That's when we knewwhat Reagan Lorenzen truly could become. And
now she's going to Rose Holman andI'm very impressed with her development and her

(20:42):
growth on the season, And thatwas really my favorite moment of the year
was that's when I knew that wehad a good team this year for one
but two, that we had avery special player in Reagan. Now moving
on from the girl, let's getto a much happier note. Wrestling competing

(21:03):
in A Regionals this Saturday. Wegot twelve guys competing in regionals. Who
do you think of the twelve guysis the most likely to move on?
We're gonna go with Porter Temples. That's a wrestling family, him and his
brother Hank. That's just what theydo. And I think Porter he's dedicated

(21:23):
to his craft and everything that hedoes. I very well see him.
I believe he made it to statelast year. Could be wrong. Yeah,
I'd see him advanced again this year. Yeah, you know, I'm
gonna have to agree with you.I mean, he's so young yet so
gifted. It's very impressive. Butalso, I mean, Hank is a

(21:45):
guy that you know, despite theheight, he's very good at what he
does. And with wrestling, Idon't think height really matters as much as
it did like for football, whichhe did play, and I think that's
what makes him so good. He'svery good that grappling guys up and he's
very fun to watch on the mat. So both of those brothers, Yeah,

(22:07):
for sure. And we're gonna endit off here with swimming tonight and
we have the sectional prelimbs at Noblesville. Should be a should be a fun
time. And just overall, whatare your expectations for this Westfield team?

(22:30):
Expecting to at least place third orhigher. I think that's what let me
talk to Ellie yesterday, that's whatshe wants. But also individually, I
know some of them are hoping tohave key, pretty key, pretty big
impacts on the team, So Iexpect him, expect them to advance.
Look, they're not beating Carmel.Oh no, no, they're not,

(22:52):
but I think they could finish, you know, second. Yeah, I
think with Carmel, I think beingsecond best behind them is quite an accomplishment.
It's technically being first because Carmel's ina league of their own. Yeah,
I mean that's we have like whatthirty three thirty four state championships for

(23:17):
swimming. It's something. Yeah,it's pretty wild what they've put together over
at Carmel. But at the endof the day, we beat them in
football and basketball. Yeah, that'sall that's all we need. And now
we got baseball. We gotta beatthem in baseball too. They beat us

(23:37):
last year. No, and what'sfunny with Carmel though they're with basketball,
they're such a streaky team. Theybeat Fishers. Yeah, they gave Fishers
their only loss of the year, which was quite shocking. I mean,
how do you think that happened withFishers. I think they caught Fishers on

(23:57):
a raw night, but they alsohave a lot of shots going in and
pretty much everything went their way.And I saw it on Twitter and I
was like, what that can't beright. I was like, wow.
I think with Fishers it came downthey turned the ball over fourteen times,
and not only that, they wereshooting fifty percent from the free throw line.

(24:18):
You have to hit your free throwsand gotta hold on to the ball.
Then you're playing in a pretty toughenvironment over at Carmel. I mean,
those kids, they they they always, they show up all the time.
I hate to admit it, butthey've got pretty rally fans and it's
it's pretty fun when Westfield goes andshuts and shuts them up. That's fun

(24:45):
to watch. Now we got totalk about the Super Bowl. Yeah,
yeah, Chiefs some forty nine ers. Really good matchup. I know people
hate it, people aren't happy aboutit, but I'm meet personally, I'm
looking forward to it. But Iwant to know, do you have like
any Super Bowl traditions? Next week? We'll get into like score predictions and

(25:08):
all that. Do you have likea Super Bowl tradition like that you do
on Super Bowl Sunday? I usedto, believe it or not. I
would always go over to like aparty or something like that. It was
like it was kind of common tohave like Super Bowl parties like a couple
of years ago. I don't doit as much now. I kind of
just get more into the game thanthe actual like environment. Yeah so right

(25:30):
now, No, Yeah, likemeat, I can totally relate. We
would have like Super Bowl parties,we'd go to like other people's houses.
But last year I watched the gamealone in the dark. You know.
It's it's wild how things change. And yeah, it was fun though.

(25:53):
I mean I like, you know, just looking at the game, taking
it all in and uh my,my dream. One of my dreams will
be to you know, go toa Super Bowl at some point. I
don't know when they'll come back toIndy, but they need to. Yeah,

(26:15):
that was cool when they came mmyeah I remember when they when they
came here, and it was funwhen the Giants beat the Patriots for a
second time. But yeah, anythingmore to add go Pacers. Oh,
yeah, totally. Yeah, althoughHaliburton coming back didn't play that much in

(26:37):
the last game. Hopefully we'll playhim more in the next one. Like
I do want to ask you whatyour thoughts are on the thing where he
can only miss three more games orelse he won't be eligible for all NBA.
I think it's unfair, it reallyis, because it's out of his
control. But the end of theday, I guess rules are rule,

(27:00):
but I just want to see himget a little bit more minutes each game
because I think had we had afully healthy Haliburton against Boston, we could
have possibly won. Although I willsay Boston they're an elite team. Oh
yeah, they showcased that out forsure. Yeah. And my thoughts on
the Haliburton thing, though, Ithink if it's a load management thing,

(27:25):
then I think absolutely there should belike some kind of punishment, Like you
know, you can't make all NBA, but if a guy's actually injured,
it's out of his control. LikeI thought, well, I saw him
go down with that hamstring injury.I'm like, oh, no, will
he come back this year? Buthere we are ten games later and he

(27:47):
came back after five. But thenhe reaggravated it. But now he's back,
and you got to give the guycredit at the end of the day.
And now here we are hopefully goinginto the All Star Break as an
elite team. Yeah, that's allI got. Hopefully a team picks up

(28:08):
Tony Snell. I really want tosee that by Friday because Tony Snell,
he he needs to be signed. And that's all I got. Peace, Peace,
