Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, Hello, Hello, welcome back to another school year. Drew Taylor,
Calli Stigler, your crew for the podcast. Asian Will will
possibly be joining us at some point, and welcome back
to a new school year.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yes, it's been a great one so far. I'm excited
to have this podcast.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Back, indeed, and we got a lot of talk about
we do.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Let's start off with Westfield football. It's kicked it off
last week vers and A Grove and they took that win.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Drew, what are your kind of points of emphasis on
that game?

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Well, really, I think it just starts with the offense.
I mean, Carson Carson Mellon was clicking on all the cylinders,
I mean, rushing, passing, you name it. Such a dual
threat quarterback. And I think it really speaks to how
talented the class of twenty twenty five days. I mean
considering the fact that in middle school, eighth grade undefeated
won the championship for eighth grade middle school, so you

(00:58):
knew that class had talent. But then again, coach Miracle,
his first ever game, he beats the number two ranked
center Grove Trojans at the time of that game on
the road. Just huge win and definitely very fast star.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Yeah, and like I was looking at Instagram and I
saw Player of the Games gab and Boles and Alex Rmboles.
The brothers kind of got Player of the Game, and
I think they really deserve it. We saw Gabe he
was not only a wide receiver, but he also played
QB in a trickery play which we could see more
of that we could see less that. I'm kind of
wanting to see more of the trickery.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
No, I totally agree, and I think that that kind
of those kind of formations and plays are good to
throw defenses keep them on their heels. I'd like to
see a little bit more motion, I think with motioning
Aaron Bowles in the slot and all that, but I

(01:54):
think that really just how they executed on also anders
defensively too, I mean Center Grove is a really explosive offense,
so to hold them to what they held him to
that was pretty pretty insane.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Yeah, that thirty four to twenty eight win is something
that we all remember for the season. First win of
the season and honestly beating senter Grove and then Ben
Davis lost too, So Westfield took that first place and
we're gonna pay our phrase. But Tristan Cook Dennis had
a quote said give me that one. So I think
Tristan predicted the future right there.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Yeah, he did. And tomorrow we got Carmel and that
should be an interesting one. Carmel winning against Homestead last week.
Obviously a quarterback kind of similar to Carson Melvin. I mean,
people don't give Anthony Coulner a lot of credit. I
mean last year as only a sophomore on varsity and

(02:50):
he's already got a couple offers. Definitely a lot of visits.
I've been seeing that on TikTok, so Anthony Colner very
explosive quarterback. Definitely want to keep him in the side
of the pocket because if he can roll out, he
can definitely cause a little bit of commotion. But Kelly,
what are your thoughts about this matchup?

Speaker 3 (03:10):
I mean, it's number one ranked the number nine, but
we see different rank in every website, so I'm excited
for this matchup. You know, as you mentioned the similar
qbs between Carson Melbourne. I think it's gonna be a
tough game for both teams. Damn. I was actually watching
TikTok and they haven't played each other since like nineteen
eighty nine and regular season. They've played each other in

(03:33):
sectional so I'm excited we've kind of seen history being
made as Carmel and sener Grope, they really haven't played
in regular seasons, so it's gonna be exciting to watch
first home game, ready to kind of commentate that and
watch that in full swing.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Agree and really I think I have a couple of
keys to the game for both sides. I think for Westfield,
as I said earlier, keeping Kolner in the pocket and
establishing a run game. That's something that obviously with the
departure of Kindergarnett that they don't have a true running
back one. They kind of been alternating touches between Degan

(04:11):
and Micah. I think brock Parker actually got a little
bit of touches as well in that game last Friday,
So I think establishing the run but as well as
getting out ahead early like they had last year in
sectionals at Carmel they jumped out right away, so that's key.
And for Carmel, same goes for containing Melvin, I think,

(04:32):
but Melvin is a little bit better of a pocket
passer than Colner is, so keeping Melvin under pressure, but
also forcing Westfield to hand the ball off because Michael
will have some explosive runs, but he's not going to
be a consistent game of five game a six yard runner.
So I think for Carmel making Westfield hand the ball off,

(04:53):
and also they have to get out early.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Yeah, I think if wes rial Is get to start
they want, we could be in trouble. But also we
could have said that last week Versa on a grove
and they didn't start off.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
So it's kind of Westfield.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
They need to be kind of having that momentum either
going to halftime or after halftime, and I think that.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Will honestly play into their part of.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Who wins and who doesn't is who has the momentum
after halftime.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
I agree. Do you have a score prediction.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
I'm gonna go Westfield twenty eight Carmel fourteen. We're up
by two touchdowns.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
I like that. I'm gonna go Westfield thirty one Carmel twenty.
I think originally it'll be all Westfield, but I think
Carmel kind of pick up a little momentum late as
they do, because I think Westfield's gonna kind of take
their foot off the gas a little bit. But I
think it's all Westfield in this one. I understand Carmel

(05:48):
is a little bit better, but I just I look
at this senior class and I just look at really
how well they've been able to contain Coolner in the past.
And I know Colner has definitely gotten a lot better
and he's only going to get better. Probably next year
he'll be arguably the best quarterback in the state. But
at the moment, taking Westfield.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Yeah, as you mentioned Colnar, he's had his experience and
he's only a junior. So Westfield his senior year might
be in trouble. So it's gonna be kind of interesting.
Excited to see that matchup next year. And moving on,
I do want to tell girls golf real quick because
they have been killing it.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
On Monday, they were EHCC champs.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
That's big as Kelsey Haverluck Metal first place with score
of seventy and then the Old Conference Addikoy, Kelsey have
luck and Sofia Rains.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
You know, our golf team has been on fire.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
You know, we saw Addikoy kind of going a five
medal run. So I'm excited for this golf team. You know,
State might be in their future for him.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
I agree, and really the whole golf program in Westfield
has been excellent as of recent I mean I got
a couple of Steak qualifiers for the men's and for
the ladies. I totally expect to see that as well.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
Yeah, so we're moving on volleyball real quick. They defeated
Lafayette Harrison three to one. Audrey Bossia and Audrey Davis
led with twelve and eleven kills, and then Emily Blevins
had twenty one assists. You know, we've kind of seen
Audrey Davis's name with volleyball. She's been absolute killing her
and Carson Comer they've been getting those kills in and

(07:26):
you know, Carson Komer is at height, so it's kind
of scary sometimes when you see when you watch him
to just spiking your ball full, like I've seen girls
get hit and I was like, that's why I don't
play volleyball. And then boys tennis last night lost to
Above five. Oh, so they have a matchup coming up
where they kind of get the revenge. You know they

(07:47):
did okay, the Saint Joe Turney lost one one one, so.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
They've been on a roll.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
And then girls soccer last night defeated Franklin Central seven
to Oh you know, I was at that game.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
It was actually kind of insane.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
They just kept scoring left and right, like half of
them were like crossing and it was literally just like
it bounced off someone's back. And I was like, yep,
look at us go. And that's really all we have
Westfield Sports right now. So let's move on to kind
of college football. As Week one is upon us.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
I know, and it's there's definitely gonna be some big
matchups and we'll talk that in a second, but I
just want to real quick. We had one game last
week in Ireland FSU and Georgia Tech. Number ten goes
down obviously a very disappointing loss for Florida State, I
mean playoff expectations, and not to say they can't still

(08:44):
get there with this new twelve team format. Just you
got a feel for Djuga Lelely just never could get
it going, and Clemson showed a little bit of optimism.
At Oregon State, We're just not looking good for the Seminoles.
But on to week one, gave you three matchups kind
of the big ones of the weekend. Number one Georgia

(09:07):
versus Number fourteen, Clemson. Georgia obviously a disappointing into their
season losing to Alabama and the SEC championship. Really, I
think if Georgia would have gotten to the playoffs, I
think Michigan would have lost to them, just my opinion.
And then we have number eight Pence State on the
road against West Virginia. That should be a great game.

(09:28):
And then we also have number seven the Notre Dame
fighting Irish take you know on number twenty Texas A
and M in Kyle Field. That's going to be electric
by a Cali. I just want to get your predictions
for those games, as we'll get mine as well.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Okay, so a little biased, but Notre Dame big fans,
you know. So I'm gonna take them, but I know
it's gonna be a close game. But Marcus Freeman, I've
been seeing him. He's put grit in this team this year,
so I'm picking him. But it's gonna be a close game,
maybe seven point, it's maybe three point difference, and I
think Georgia is getting the win versus Clemson. You know,

(10:05):
Clemson's tough, but when it comes to top ten teams,
they kind of like ball. So and then Penn State
and West Virginia is kind of an interesting matchup. You know,
Penn State's electric at home, so on the road, I'm
still taking Penn State because I think the run game
will be unmatched first, West Virginia's defense.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Yeah, I like that analysis. Number fourteen Clemson, number one Georgia.
I could see two outcomes here. I think, if it's close,
give me the Tigers, but if it's a blowout, it's Georgia.
I don't there was not a better way for Clemson
to come out because I think we're kind of forgetting
who Clemson is, who Dabbos Sweeney is as a coach.

(10:49):
I mean, they're two times national champs under Dabo, so
I think this would be prime time for Clemson football
to re elevate. I just don't think, hey Cubic is
there yet is the quarterback? So give me Georgia with
Carson Beck Penn State in West Virginia. I'm not sold
on the Nitty Lions yet. I'm gonna take West Virginia.

(11:11):
I think it's on the road. I'm not confident in
Penn State's quarterback play. The run game is very good.
I would agree with you on that in the defense,
but I just think West Virginia wins in the close
one number seven Notre Dame, Texas A and M. I
think people are over hyping and in them a little bit.

(11:32):
Notre Dame goes in. I do think it will be close,
because I mean, it's Kyle Fee. It's the most electric
atmosphere in college football according to NCAA twenty five. But no,
I think Notre Dame comes in. I'm excited to see
what Riley Leonard can do as quarterback. I think that
was an amazing transfer, and as you said, Marcus Freeman,
he's got principals in this team, and I think if

(11:52):
the Irish can get past Texas A and M, they
can go un defeated on the year. That's just me, though.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
I want to happen to know bias, but there is
a lot of bias in them. I love to see
him go actually deep in on playoffs, and I think
they have the team for it. It's just going to
be injuries and kind of keeping the players together.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
No, I agree. I'm I kind of biased as well.
Notre Dame pretty basketball fan, Notre Dame football fan.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
I know, Bandwagon Weather and then another Week one NFL Week.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
One yes, that's true. Next the week a week from
today is NFL Week one, and definitely excited about that
as a Bears fan. Caleb Williams, I just really hope
he can stay healthy. I know he's showed glimpse of
greatness in the preseason, but we'll see where it takes
us in the regular season.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Yeah, I think it's important.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
You know, preseason it's kind of an opportunity to shine,
and especially for Caleb Williams, but he also doesn't have
those number one weapons really playing their best.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Because it's preseason. They don't want to rest the injuries.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
So I'm excited to see him actually with his weapons
and his throat power. Once he gets started, I think
they could be on a run.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
I agree with that. I mean, so many key additions,
even on the defensive side, to establish this seed team
early on. I think the North is going to be hard.
I think Jordan Love is the best quarterback in that division.
Kind of I don't even really call it a hot
take at this point, but I think the Lions will
still win it. I think Green Bay and Chicago will
be competing for that second spot, hopefully Minnesota, sorry for.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Them, Minnesota's has some trouble after losing Kirk Cousins. But
I mean justin Jefferson's getting his pay. They lost Alvin
Cook to the Cowboys, so I think they'll be okay.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
But they also lost Jiji.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
McCarthy who was promising could have been starting quarterback for him.
So I just don't think that right now they's success
right is there? But later in the season we could
be misquoting that right now?

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Yeah, And I just real quick, I want to get
your thoughts new you're a Colts fan on Richardson, what
do you think this season holds for him?

Speaker 3 (13:57):
I mean, I hope the best I saw him in
pre season it was kind of atheon. He had a
good first drive and then we kind of plummeted. So
I think he just needs to get those nerves out.
You know he's got he has an injury. You know,
you've got to shake those nerves out of I don't
want to get injured again and just go back to
being a rookie kind of in that mindset and just

(14:18):
play your harvest.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
I agree with that, but that's gonna do it. For
the first podcast. Thank you for tuning in. Make sure
if you're not gonna be at the game to tune
into our broadcast on I should say TV. Me and
Cali will be calling the game, so make sure to
tune in for that. It's gonna be a good one
and just welcome to a new school year. Man, I'm excited.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
