Shortcomings

Shortcomings

It's June 6, 1998. The number one movie in the United States is 'The Truman Show.' NBC ruled television, with 'Friends,' 'E.R.', and 'Seinfeld' dominating the ratings. Brandy and Monica were on top of the music charts, and, oh, and 'Sex and the City' aired its first episode. Welcome to 'Shortcomings,' a new 'Sex and the City' podcast from Sam Bush (aka @bravohistorian) and Chris Lewis. They're going all-in on our problematic fave — the memories, the men, the fashion, and, of course, Aidan's obsession with KFC. Sam and Chris will recap all 92 episodes of the series, two movies, and whatever the revival is. So grab a cosmo and join Sam and Chris in taking a critical eye to a show that changed television.

And Just Like That...We're Disgusted, upset, angry, and simply...thrilled! Season 3 is finally here and we break it all down. Carrie's new apartment, M&Ms, dog park hijinks, Marvel directors, and political spouses. Oh My! What's going on in the mind of Michael Patrick King? We may never know! But we are SO back!

This week's bonus episode will dig into Anthony's role on And Just Like That & queer representation in this univer...

With four seasons under our belt, we take a moment to look backwards and ponder what's to come for us. But of course before that, we discuss more than we should. We start a review of our thoughts about Girls around 42 minute mark.

We're taking a hiatus from Girls, but we'll be back to cover And Just Like That s3 in late May here on the main feed. Girls recaps will begin again once AJLT s3 ends.

We made it to the end of season four and we can only hope that season five is looking up, because we didn't love this episode. So much so, we really barely discuss it. So disclaimer - the Girls talk in this episode is little to none. But, I think we sort of made some points. Either way, we love you deep!

Girls talk begins around 1:07:20

We're back after a brief hiatus and we catch-up briefly on our lives before discussing the penultimate episode of Season Nine. Tad is in town and Hannah is reckoning with boundaries, Jessa is chasing Ace, Marnie's taking center stage, and we're wondering...did we ever really know Ray? We do now! Take a listen!

An episode where we discuss what we're currently watching and re-watching, and then get into an episode of Girls that is remembered fondly, but is out there. Tad comes out, Hannah's a mess, Shosh is a Good Wife girlie, and Desi is buying pedals!

It's another week of Shortcomings and a strange episode of Girls, but before that we get into Megan Markle's new Netflix series, 23 & Me, Summer House, and many other things. And then we breakdown Mimi-Rose Howard's art show, the introduction of Fran, and the Ace of it all. Here we go!

Oh, we are SO back and it's for a great episode of Girls...and hopefully, Shortcomings! But before that, we get into a little discourse about how to handle the moment we find ourselves in and a bit about the power of the Potomac reunion. And then we get into it: Shosh continues to be a model of mid-20s living, Indie Rock discourse, Ray's political awakening, Hannah's journey, and the Mimi-Rose of it all. Take a listen!

We've reached the middle of Season 4 and wow what an episode, but before that we discuss our feelings about the upcoming Summer House (this was recorded before the s9 premiere), one of us is confused by Chickenfry, and we begin to ponder what's to become of Shortcomings when we finish Girls. And then we get into it: Hannah's back and taking up space, Marnie is MIA and then very impactful, Shosh has a fuck ass bob, and Jessa is Jess...

Oh, we woke up on the wrong side of the bed! The discourse has become toxic and we have to get these Beyoncé-haters and Craig apologists in their place. And then we take on a pretty important episode in Girls transition. Hannah is struggling in Iowa, Marnie and Desi are compartmentalizing, and Shosh is the only adult on this damn show. Take a listen!

We're still in Iowa and not sure how to feel about it, but before we get into we discuss Sam's journey back into Dance Moms and Chris' most recent unhinged dream. Then we get into it all: Adam and Jessa's newfound friendship, Marnie's delusions, Ray as king, and Shosh's interview skills. Take a listen!

Well, it's a fitting episode title as trigger warning: we're going through it as we attempt to record on the day You Know Who is sworn in, but anyway...we discuss Iowa rents, Scandal crossovers, Hannah on a bike, and so much more. Remember us better than this episode plz!

Season four is here officially, so of course we have to discuss the TikTok ban, plans for 2025, BachNation, and so much more. And then, of course, we get into it. Hannah and Adam's dwindling relationship, ass eating, Shosh as queen and Jessa as messy bitch/truth teller. It's all happening and we love you deep!

Oh, you thought we weren't going to finish Girls s3 in 2024? Well, you're wrong! But before that we hear (on mic) Sam learning a lesson, the World Tour (what tour?), and talk of the Catholic Church. And then we get into it all: Shosh's flop era, Marnie's delulu behavior, Jessa's doing it for the plot, and Hannah's version of success.

Girls content begins at 56:47 (sorry!)

It's the penultimate episode of Season Three and we get into it all, but before that we share some tales of woe. And then we take on Jessa's new career, Shosh's struggles, and how much we can't stand Mr. Sackler. Our girl Hannah is down, but this episode of Shortcomings is UP.

It's a Shortcomings first - an episode recorded over 24 hours. For the first half you get to hear a little bit about the episode of Girls and a lot about Gladiator 2. And then we return for a conversation about Jessa, Adam and Hannah's relationship, and the Hawaiian practice that changes lives. Happy Holidays!

Don't call it a comeback, okay - maybe you can! We're back on our bullshit and discussing Girls again! And oh what an episode, but before that we breakdown a new Hulu series, unfortunate google images, and People's Sexiest Man Alive. And then we get into it all - Desi is here and he's perfect! And so is Patti LuPone. And Elijah. It's a lot, take a listen!

What else is there to say? We're here. Perhaps the finest episode of Girls is now with us, but before that we discuss Sister Wives and an old-school song that should have been a hit. And then we get into all of it: Marnie's controlling ways, the importance of Elijah and Hannah, Pal and Short Gays, and the fight of it all.

Oh, how we've missed our Girls! We're back to discuss Hannah's return to the workforce, the developing Ray-Marnie relationship, Shosh's attempt to stabilize, and whatever the hell Jessa is up to. But, of course, before that, we chat about the new RHONY and somewhere in there we discuss the state of Marvel and the upcoming Wicked movie. Because, you know, we're us.

This one is for all the only children out there - or is it? We get into how Hannah is playacting at having a sibling, the Ray-Marnie of it all, and how underwhelming Jessa has become. With, of course, some very shocking detours into the herstory of dogs. Because, why not!
