This is six in the Morning with Brett Caine on demand.
Check out Brett weekday mornings at six on Altitude Sports
Radio not E two five and on the Altitude Sports
Radio App.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
You know, I'm just really blessed, you know, that have
the people in my life and the people on this
team that believe in me and made this all possible.
And I just love what we're building here. And I
really can't you know, state that enough. Just it's all
about the culture here. I think that's why you kind
of see how you know, Cortland myself, everything's kind of
(00:40):
being handled right now is because of what we believe
in this team and believe in this organization. And you know,
it really is a blessing to be part of the
Denver Broncos organization, be living in Denver and h yeah,
I'm just highly blessed, and you know, it's a it's
a great thing.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Zach Alla got paid. People zack out and got paid.
The man got paid. The Broncos are going step by
step doing exactly what they need to do to get
where they want to go. Welcome to Brett Kane Show,
which is way too early in the morning. Brett Caine,
like a Sucker has taken another week off. He has
(01:20):
taken a week off in the middle of Broncos training camp.
So I'm gonna be filling in for the big fellow
this week. Welcome. I'm Mark Burton, only coming you alive
out here at Duve Valuable, Maan Jesse Trio and uh
Steve Nelson back in the studios and we've got four
hours to talk Broncos football with you. As the Broncos
kickoff the second week of a training camp. They will
(01:43):
have practice here today. They will practice here tomorrow, then
Wednesday they are off. They are flying to San Francisco
on Wednesday. On Thursday they will have a group practice
with the San Francisco forty nine ers, and then on
Saturday night they will play the Niners in their very
first preseason game. That's right, we are six days away
(02:04):
from some Broncos football. It's crazy, It's absolutely wild. I
guess the big story is Zach Allen gotten paid Zach
Allen four year, one hundred two million dollar contract extension.
The when when Jeff Legwald wrote about the uh the extension,
he said that they're that the Broncos front office is
(02:26):
just going They're just checking things off the list, right,
They're just going right, just paying the people who should
be paid. They're doing the things they should be doing.
If it's great, it's great to have a competent front
office here as it feels like everything's coming to pornch
in Blue? Am I right? Or am I wrong? Everything's
coming to pornch and Blue? Matter of fact? On the
(02:48):
the shop Master text line three h three five four
nine two five, I would like you to text in
and tell me if you have any criticisms of the
Broncos offseason what soever right now outside of paying Benito,
which they're probably gonna do since they're paying everybody else,
outside of paying Benito and taking a big, huge, crazy
(03:09):
swing at a player, And that's I mean, And even
then that's not something that I would call you. Know.
Something you have to do is do you have a
criticism about the way this Bronco team is being put
together and being run currently? Cause, man, like, obviously, once
this preseason game comes up on Saturday, we see actual
(03:30):
guys hitting each other. Well might we might have some
different opinions on things, but man, everybody like who's popping
here at camp? Who popped last week here at camp?
Everybody you want to, everybody you needed to, you know
what I mean. The new guys looking good, the old
guys looking like they're gonna take a step up. So
it's been a I don't know, man, it's been an
(03:51):
almost Uh. It's been puppy dogs and rainbows for the
Broncos so far. And I want to know if anybody
thinks that the way they're handling things is in correct. Nelson,
do you remember do you remember when we were doing
the outdoor game at the Air Force Academy when he
took on the King? Do you remember that, brother?
Speaker 4 (04:10):
Oh, the one the yeah, the Air Force Academy. That
was a yeah, frigid night. All of you guys were
freezing your tail man.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
That's that might have been the coldest I've ever been.
Bro the cult Like I had, I had seats, I
me and Jesse were on the glass for the outdoor game,
and I left those seats to go inside against the
meat Man. That's I was like, Nah, Bro's way, It's
But do you remember we had we had the Commissioner
of the NHL on before that game and we were
(04:37):
asking him questions and he and he was like, man, Berto,
why are you always asking negative. You always ask negative questions, man,
Why you always gotta be so negative? And that's what
this text line question is. It's very negative because do
you have any do you have anything negative say about
the Broncos right now? Do you have anything that you
don't like? Has Sean Payton said anything that you don't like?
(05:00):
Has as has bo Nick's done anything? No? No, at
least not for me. Not for me, man, it feels
like I no, no, no, no, no, no, yeah. I don't
want to get too I don't want to get out
ahead of my over my skis just yet because there's
still so much we haven't even played any football yet
and we're making all these predictions and talking about this team.
But your little internet shows are driving me crazy. Yeah, yeah,
(05:24):
I'm sure. I wonder if we're gonna get Spicy shan
out here again today. We'll see. We'll see how he
treats in San Francisco media when he heads on down there.
Like the Broncos in the forty nine, ers have some
weird parallels. And it's not just the Shanahan name that's
you know, part of both of these franchises, although I
did see some listen, listen brock Party got paid, Brockberdy
(05:54):
got paid. But I did see a Niner. You know, hey,
you know what you know who is a Niner fan
who is a massive San Francisco nine to five. That's
Steve Nelson. Steve Nelson, you are a huge San Francisco
fan because your fam grew up in the in the Bay, right.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
Yep, that's correct.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
So I want to give you. I want to say
something to you that I heard from a San Francisco
fan just recently, and and you tell me if they're
crazy or if they're not crazy, because when I first
heard it, I was like, Nah, that that that ain't right.
Uh that that can't possibly be right, can it? But
(06:34):
here's what here's what they said. It's it's somebody who's
covered the Niners for a long time, and they said
Brock Purty is the best quarterback that the San Francisco
forty nine ers have had since Steve Young. What do
you think about that statement?
Speaker 4 (06:55):
Wow, this is a Jeff Garcia eraser. Yeah, yeah, no, no,
me Garoppolo seriously, man, but no, no, I hate what you
say it. But nah, none of those guys, none of
those guys, None of the guys.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Matches up to brock right this way, despite the fact
that the criticism that brock Perty gets for being brock
Perty and for being I mean, I still you know,
speaking of San Francisco fan, I heard them complain about
how Trey Lance looked in the Hall of Fame game.
They're like, remember, we gave up three first for that dude.
Matter of fact, they gave him three first and a
third for that dude. And the guys who still made
those picks are still with that team because somehow they
(07:33):
were able to overcome it. And they were able to
overcome it because in twenty twenty two, with the last
pick of the draft, they took brock Purty. But Nelson
brock Purty the greatest forty nine Ers quarterback since Steve
Young in your opinion, crazy, You're not crazy.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
I I don't know, man. The discourse around brock Party
is so is so toxic. You know, Oh, is is
he actually good? Or is he only good if he
has weapons? Or oh, how maybe he was mister irrelevant
after all, Just like no one can decide if this
guy is good or not. It's just the most the
Niners fans tell.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Me, man, is he is he better? Than Okay, some
of the guys you mentioned Jeff Garcia, But how about
Alex Smith?
Speaker 4 (08:15):
Oh, Alex Smith. That's a good question, Harb Kaepernick. Harbaugh
was just starting to turn around Alex Smith and then
they shipped him off to Casey.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
We never really got to see that. But I mean,
Alex Smith had a long career in the NFL. Like
I mean, but you tell me, is brock Purty better
than Alex Smith? Is he better than Colin Kaepernick? He's
definitely better than Jeff Garcia. Although Jeff Garcia's started three
straight seasons for that team. Brother, that's crazy.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
I guess if you believe HERM Edwards that you play
to win the game, brock perty has done a lot
more winning than some of those guys you just listen to.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
Is brock Purty better than Yes, of course, Ken Dorsey, Brother,
Ken Dorsey, Geez?
Speaker 4 (08:58):
Probably you know what it answered your question? I'm gonna
I'm gonna pull uh. Was it was a Kubiak who
used to say, we're fixing to find out?
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Yeah? Yeah, was it Kobia We're fixing to find out?
Speaker 4 (09:08):
I think I think that was Kobs because with with uh,
with Brock Party, we're fixing to find out because the
forty nine ers have lost a lot of weapons this offseason.
So yeah, I mean, that's the that's what Brock's got
to prove it this year.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
That's the I mean, that's the direct correlation with the
Broncos is at the quarterback position, where the San Francisco
forty nine ers might have had the best group of
just talent players that you know what I mean, just
you know, with Debo and CMC and and and Kittle
and the crew, you know what I mean, they might had.
(09:38):
They might have had some of the best just pure
raw talent at the skill positions. And they were able
to pay all those dudes though because they had Brockert,
you know what I mean, They didn't have to play
Brock but now they did. Now that dude is taking
up whatever twenty two percent of your cap with that
massive number that that he just got. But you had
to pay him, right, You had to pay him. Even
though you got Kyle Shanahan, right, Kyle Shanahan right, and
(10:01):
and it looks like that dude can work wonders with
with any kind of quarterback, you still had to pay Brock, right,
You couldn't let that do I mean, you had to
pay that, man. It's just the way things work in
this in this league. Well the tenth best quarterback in
the NFL right now, but you still had to pay him.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
The good news is the Niners just signed Robbie Chosen Anderson,
so they're good to go. Now, there you go, Brock
has this guy?
Speaker 3 (10:25):
I want to know? I wonder who the Niners go
play against the Broncos this weekend on Saturday, Like I wonder,
Like I'm assuming we're gonna see bo and Brock for
a quarter, maybe a little it maybe a series into
the second quarterback. You won't get cocky in the first
preseason game, right, I'm not sure, Like I'm not sure
how many of these vets for the Broncos we're gonna
(10:46):
get to see on this game on on on Saturday either,
But at least it's gonna be good to hit somebody
in another uniform, right, Like it's in San Francisco. Man,
I think a lot of people listen. Sean Payton was
(11:06):
talking about how you can't be you can't be afraid
to say the word, you can't be afraid to talk
about going to the super Bowl, winning the Super Bowl.
You got you gotta have that conversation. Matter of fact,
he said he had that conversation with his team in
the very first team meeting they had this season. You
got to talk about it, You got to bring it up,
because if you can't, if you can't picture it in
your mind, you're not gonna be able to do it
(11:28):
out there on the field. And uh, it is weird.
I've seen a couple of comments from both Kyle Shannan
and Sean Payton last week, and they were really similar,
really similar. Like they're two totally different I mean, two
totally different generations of coaches, but they they certainly seem
to have the same kind of mindset when it comes
(11:49):
to certain type of issues. Like Sean Payton talked about
talking talking to guys who are about to go into
a big contract situation. She's a big contract talks with
the front office, everything, just sitting down and just having
to talk, just talking it out with him, you know what,
and know that you know like these these conversations when
it comes to contracts get crazy. But I got you back,
(12:12):
I'm here for you. And Kyle Shanahan had that same
conversation with Brock Perdy before he signed this new contract.
He set him down at the end of last season.
Brock said before when the offseason started and said, listen,
this contract stuff is gonna be crazy. It's gonna be crazy,
and it's gonna be weird, and I hate it. He's like,
but I love you and I love you as our quarterback.
(12:32):
And he's like, I got you back in here. You know.
He's like, so it it it it it is. It
is weird how similar some of the things that both
Sean Payton and Kyle Shanahan do. But I guess that's
just I mean, when you're successful at this level, at
the highest level of this sport, there has to be
some similarities when it comes to just how you handle
(12:54):
your business right, just how you go about doing it.
But Zach Allen paid and like, we all know when
a team's doing it the right way, right, And I
guess we don't always know when a team's building the
right way, you know what I mean, the way I like,
but we certainly know when they do. We are when
they are doing it the right way, like Matt Eshbie
(13:15):
and the Phoenix Suns and whatever craziness going on right
there where you're just trying to throw money at the
problems instead of thinking about it. And the Denver Broncos
certainly seem to have really thought about They like this
group of guys. They want to keep these group of
guys together. It reminds me a lot of what the
Denver Nuggets did when they locked the core of the
team down before they won the NBA title. They had
(13:37):
the core locked down before they won the whole thing.
And it feels like that's what I mean. They signed
Benito on this done. Man, it's done. You've locked it
all down and you good to go. So they It
certainly feels like this team trusts these players and these
are the group of guys that they want to go
forward with and get this thing done. And I mean
(14:00):
when we talk about build who I mentioned to this
to last week or the week before that, where we're
talking about building up the middle, building up the middle
in the NHL and building up the middle in Major
League Baseball is how they like to build teams. And
here in Denver, man, I listen, I love talking about
the sexy position players and we're gonna talk about them
a lot. I'm sure if it's going to talk about
(14:22):
him a lot coming up here. But man, you've got
to get it done on the line. On the you
don't talk about the offensive and defensive lines. Man, you
got to have those set. And Zach Allen is a big,
nasty disruptor right in the middle of everything. And man,
(14:45):
they I mean VJ loves them and the team loves him.
And he got a four year, one hundred and two
million dollar extension and things are looking pretty good. Mark
Burley coming out, coming to July from Broncos Park, powered
by Common Spirit as we get you ready for U
training camp today. This is a Brett Kine show e Motion.
(15:05):
Vic will be joining me here in just about forty
five minutes time. We'll roll on live from Broncos Camp
after a quick break. He's already on vacation mode. It's
fun so checked out.
Speaker 5 (15:16):
So how much beer I'm gonna you know, I don't
know if there's enough beer and weed in this state
for a second. I'm telling you right now this man,
if you run it out, that's what vacation is.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
Yeah, I'm gonna be feeling no pain by It's gonna
be great. It was great. I was feeling no pain.
Matter of fact, I'm gonna be sweating at booze out
the next couple of days. Like, listen, man, I'm one
of those dudes. I'm one of those guys who needs
to take a vacation from his vacation. You know what
I'm talking about, Where you're at the end of your vacation,
(15:53):
you're just like, you're like, WHOA, I went way too hard.
I gotta I gotta get things right, I gotta get straight.
But yeah, that's nothing like in in your vacation. By
getting up at four am to roll out to Broncos
training camp, Welcome back to your Broncos training camp. Cover
Turning Altitude Sports Radio is powered by Ramos Law, the
(16:13):
official injury law firm partner of Broncos Country. Brett Caine
is off, Hey, what the hell's Brett doing.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
Nelson, He is playing in a golf tournament, like a
Ryder Cup style golf tournament. He just took a week
off to just go play in a golf tournament. Well,
he told he told me that the tournament's gonna take
three or four days. And then he's like, ah, why
am I gonna come back for the end of the week.
Let me just let me just chill.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Well, we'll be out here at camp today and tomorrow.
But then then the Broncos fly on out to San
Francisco to take on the Niners. They'll have their first
joint practice on Thursday. Those always get a little chippy.
Will be interesting to see how that all plays out.
Nelson is back at the Backer in Matkinson Shanker Studios.
Their passion is justice, the shop Moss, the text line,
(17:04):
one price, one person, one hour, three oh three, five
oh four, O nine two five text in and let
me at well, do you have a single criticism of
what the Broncos have done this offseason? Is there anything
you would have done differently? Nelson? You and I both
know dudes who think that they should be running professional
(17:25):
teams right now, Like they believe that they have the
brains and the guts to run a professional franchise. And
I just don't. I don't think they have it in them,
but they certainly do. But for you out there listening,
you tell me would you do anything different if you
were a great pinner, if you were Sean Payne? Was
there anything you would do a little bit differently? Like
(17:46):
what if you liked from camp so far? I mean,
I don't know how much I like taking away from camp.
There's obviously there's people that you like to focus on,
and the starting quarterback is one of those major spots,
and both look pretty good. But this defense, man, the
things you're looking forward to most before the regular season starts.
(18:09):
What do you want to see out of this Broncos
team in their in their in their preseason action, and
in the in in this camp, Because they have about
two weeks worth well a little over two weeks worth
of camp still remaining, they do have I think they
also have joint practices with the Cardinals. Is here here,
that's here. So this week they'll be in San Francisco
practice with the Niners. Next week before the Cardinals preseason game,
(18:34):
they will be here and they'll be a joint practice
with those with that squad as well. But man, who
knows what's going on with the Cardinals. I have no
idea about that team. But yeah, defense is gonna be
a monster. Evan Ingram gonna go off? Is he gonna
be a massive key piece to this team? Troy Franklin
stepping up. I love to talk about the wide receiver position,
(18:56):
but it's probably it's probably the the group of players
that we have most the most questions about but then yeah,
I mean they locked up Courtland. Man, They're just they're
just handling their business out here for for the Bronx.
But it doesn't matter. I mean all this what what
(19:17):
it all matters is is the wins and losses when
it when it, when it comes down to it. So
Sean Pete Sean Payton talking about you can't be too
scared to talk about Super Bowl, but he did say
the one main goal right now for the Broncos is
to win the division this year. Win the division this year,
(19:37):
and that's not an easy ask obviously when you look
at what's going on in the division. You know what
I heard the other day somebody, Oh who was it? Oh?
Who was it? One of the national talking heads was
talking about how they think the surprise team in the
NFL this year it's gonna be the Raiders. The Raiders,
(19:59):
and and they think that it's gonna be the Raiders.
There's gonna be three teams out of the AFC West
that make the playoffs, and the one team that does
it is gonna be the Broncos, was their prediction. Because
they think the Raiders is gonna knock the Broncos out
of their playoffs spot from last year and take it.
And I was like, I don't know, man, especially with
that quarterback. I mean, listen, Pete Carroll needs to win,
(20:22):
needs to win now, right, Like he ain't got much
time left on this earth, like you know what I mean,
Like he's got He's not here thinking about what's gonna
happen five ten years from now. He needs to win now.
But I'm not sure they can get that done. I'm
not sure the Raiders can get that done. Right. And
then you got the Chiefs and Chargers still out there
just doing whatever they're gonna do. And we all think
the Chargers could be better than they were last season, right,
(20:44):
So you know how much better is bow Knicks gonna
be this year? I mean, I've seen some people saying
that Bonis is gonna be a top five quarterback in
this league, and some people who say that Bonnicks is
already peaked, He's already reached his peak. This is as
good as it's gonna get. I I don't really care
(21:05):
about who he's Like. I saw Brock, not Brock, I
saw bo talking about some of these some of the
veteran quarterbacks he's hit up for advice, and obviously Drew
Brees was one of those guys. But you know what
was weird is he went to that to Tom House
this this offseason and he's the he's the throwing motion guy.
(21:27):
He's a he's I mean, he's a he's a he's
a pitch like. He works with a lot of Major
League Baseball pitchers, but he's a biomechanics throwing expert. And
it's a weird job, right. He works mostly with pictures,
but anybody who anybody who throws for a living, he
can work with. And I you know what I kind
(21:51):
of missed. I kind of missed the days of quarterbacks
with those weird throwing motions. You know what I'm talking about,
just the weird. It's like those like I miss those
submarine pictures. I don't know how many submarine pictures we
still have in MLB. And I miss some of those
dudes who were like side arming, like Patrick Mahomes can
still throw from weird angles, and Sempaygnon did say that
(22:12):
bo Nicks has a talent to throw from weird arm
angles again, but I'm just talking about it like naturally weird,
like Philip Rivers. Remember how you walking that dude's throwing
motion was that dude is speaking of which Jesse, did
you hear what happened in Philip Rivers? First off, the
dude has ten kids, right, he has ten kids. One
of his ten kids just had a kid. He has
(22:33):
a grandfather at the age of forty three. Philip Rivers.
Grandpa at forty three, Man, that's crazy. Talked to me.
Although did you see also the so Philip Rivers? Was
it Philip Rivers? Yeah, it was Philip Rivers who just
said he just officially retired like last month, and he
has a place since twenty twenty and he said the
(22:54):
reason that he didn't put in his retirement papers until
just recently is that he kept getting calls during the season,
like you got to call in twenty twenty one. He said,
he got a call in twenty twenty two about where
teams were like how's the shoulder, how's the arm? You
think you've still got something in you, Philip? And so
he was like, well, I guess I won't put in
(23:15):
my retirement papers until I find out whether or not
a good I was like, man, there was teams calling
Philip Rivers man at forty and so he was forty
years old, and teams were calling Philip being like, hey, man,
do you think he still got it? But that's crazy.
I'm assuming we've never have we ever had a quarterback
also as a grandfather starting in the NFL, Like and
we had a grand I'm sure we've had a grandfather
(23:36):
start in the well, right, somebody had a young I
don't know. Has there been a grand as a has
a grandfather played a down in the NFL? I need
to know. I want to know there has to be one. Right,
had a young had had a kid when he was
young and they had it? I don't know. But Philip
rivers forty three grandfather? Man, that dude. You know what,
that dude's going to end up with fifty grand kids,
(23:57):
isn't he? Because he's got ten kids. He's got seven
daughters and three sons. And I think he's done right
at forty three. What do you think, Nelson, he's done
Its Cammel kids.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
So to your previous question, the only data I've been
able to find is the one grandfather who played in
the NFL was Brett Favre in twenty ten, when oh.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
No, I had no idea Brett Farv was a grandfather
played that at.
Speaker 4 (24:22):
The very end when he was playing with the Minnesota
Vikings in twenty ten. His daughter Brittany had a son,
Parker Farv, so he played like one season as a grandpa.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
Wow, I had no idea. So the one NFL play, Well,
I'm sure there's got to be well, although there's not
a lot of dudes playing forty plus years old in
this league, man, you know what I mean, Like, that's
just not happening. Wow. Okay, So Brett, I mean, what
the hell is he even doing? As far still did?
Didn't he steal a bunch of money from Mississippi.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
I's gonna say, don't pull that thread on what Brett
Farv has been up to lately. Brother right?
Speaker 3 (24:56):
And then he sued did he sued McAfee right, and
then they I don't know, there was all kinds of way.
I have no idea what that guy is up too lately,
No idea. We were talking about old school class like
I put Brett Farv in the like in the Steve
Young like that classic category, you know, like thirty years ago,
when Brett Farr was doing it right, when Brett was
(25:16):
doing his thing good times. But I guess I got
another question for the text line, how much more can
a great quarterback elevate your team compared to a great
head coach, because I keep seeing these like I keep
seeing people saying, you know what, the the Broncos are
(25:38):
more talented than you think they are. But then I'm
also hearing people saying, actually, it's just Sean Payton offensive
genius that's taking sub level talents and making them good.
And now I want to know. I mean, if there's probably,
it's probably somewhere in the middle. Obviously we're not always
dealing in black and white. It's probably somewhere in the middle.
But as I always say, players win games. Players win games.
(26:04):
So a great quarterback is better than a great head coach. Right,
we've all figured matter fact, I think we've all We've
all come to the agreement that Tom Brady, right, all right,
Tom Brady was more important to the Patriots than Bill Belichick. Right.
I mean, not the Bill was chop lever or something
like that, but Tom Brady was more important to that
dynasty than Bill Belichick. Is ergo, I don't know what
(26:28):
that means, but you know what I'm saying, bo Nix,
it's more important to the Denver Broncos than Payton is right, right?
Speaker 2 (26:35):
Is that?
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Is that?
Speaker 3 (26:36):
What like Sean Payton and Bo like we we just think,
just like what Mike Shanahan was here. I've said this
for said this plenty times on the air. I thought
Mike Shannan was gonna be Broncos coach for life. Man,
it just felt like he was here. This is what
he does. Mike Malone, I thought Michael Malone is gonna
be the head coach of the Denver Nuggts for ever.
It's just you know, but it comes up. So yeah, yeah, no,
(26:57):
I'm not sure, not anymore. I'm not sure about anything anymore. So,
oh what does that mean? That means that Sean Payton
and Bo Nicks are not going to be connected forever?
Right unless things work out perfectly? Right, Unless they work
out perfectly and Sean Payton is the head coach of
the Denver Broncos for fifteen years and bow Knicks is
the starting quarterback of the den Broncos for fifteen years.
(27:17):
But that's just not how things work in this league.
But once again, you can't I get caught up in
thinking about the past and the future a little bit
too much. We got to talk about the now, the
here and the now. And do you think we are? Nelson?
You tell me, man, you've been hearing from Bronco fan
all last week. You've heard this entire station talk Bronco
(27:38):
football this entire training camp. Do you think that the
local media and Broncos country little too excited, little too
optimistic about what we might see from their local NFL
franchise this season?
Speaker 4 (27:56):
I think it's a it's a yes. And and why
wouldn't you buy in after what you saw last season
and then looking at the pieces that they've added this offseason,
why wouldn't you hop on the hype train with with
reckless abandon I mean, have you seen anything to do
you have any reason to believe that they're gonna take
a step back this year just based on the evidence
(28:17):
we've seen in this offseason.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
No, But then in the NFL, a lot of teams
take a step back that you didn't think they were
going to, Right. That's the That's the nature of the NFL.
Like of all the professional sports that we we know
and love and watch and listen to all that kind
of stuff, the NFL is the easiest league to take
a bad team and make it good now, it still
(28:39):
takes a whole lot of work to make them good
to great from taking them from a good team to
a contender. And that's what we're trying to decide what
the Broncos are right now, because they're no longer a
bad team. Sean Payton has turned that team around. They
are now a good team. They Right, we all think
the Denver Broncos are gonna be good this season, But
(29:01):
that does that mean they've already inched into contender category?
The team they're gonna have joint practices with this week
San Francisco forty nine ers, Right, we continue, we we can,
We would think of them as a contender. Right, we
consider them a contender going into this into this season.
And it's hard to do that with the Broncos just
(29:21):
because of of the of of the history of the
last six seven years, Like can you can you really
go from that bad to that good? And in the
NFL you can't, because that's how they like it, that's
how they won it. In an eighty two game regular
regular season schedule like you have in basketball and in hockey,
it's a lot harder to get your franchise pointed in
(29:43):
the right direction. It takes a couple of seasons in
the NFL. Now you you you can make some fairly
large changes fairly quickly. And obviously the Bronx, I mean
the Broncos are still dealing with that Russell Wilson cap
it this season. I mean they took them, they took
that massive it last year, but they still deal with
a thirty plus million dollar cap in this year. And
(30:05):
they still seem to be able to do financially what
they want to do by locking up Zach Gallon, by
locking up Courtland by I guess whether or not they're
gonna pay Benito or just get let them, let them
try it, let them give it one more season. But
it feels like the way they're just locking these guys
down that they they like what they're seeing, they like
(30:25):
the team that they have. They want this to be
the team that goes they go forward with. Otherwise, why
would you have it the way it is?
Speaker 4 (30:32):
And Berto, that's that's my point is you said it
earlier there that this is the first time in what
six or seven years that we've had a reason to
be excited.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
Hiny, It's been nic It's been almost a decade, man, right,
it's been twenty fift No, it was probably going into
the twenty sixteen season that everyone was.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
Like, yeah, hey, that's Simeon basically the same as Peyton Manning.
Let's run it back, baby, we still got the defense. No,
but that's exactly my point is, now you have reasons
to be excited. We're not sitting here talking about Joe
Flacco versus Case Keenan versus Teddy Bridgewater versus Drew Lock
versus Brandon Allen versus Jeff driscoll. We're not talking about
(31:08):
the quarterback. All we're talking about is this quarterback that
we have.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
Is a real deal.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
The defense is the real deal. Let's run it back.
Let's win a playoff game. The vibes are high in
Broncos Country, and I'm not here to yuck anyone's yum.
If you're buying in, buy in, buy your Broncos stock,
be a Chase Daniels and Diana Russini. Take every last
dime you have in buy Broncos stock. I'm not I'm
not here to tell you to do otherwise. Because we
(31:35):
finally have stock that's worth buying.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
Yeah, I want I want to know if if there's
any fans out there who don't believe in the Broncos
Right now, Sean Man's the text line three out three
five four O nine to two five text in tell me, well,
I mean, if you don't, if you're not a believer,
why not? Or is it just too soon? If you
don't believe? Is it just because you just have it?
You gotta see it first? I think that's fair.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
You might think this team was a one hit wonder
last year. You need to see repeated success.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
I think that's fair, right, because you can obviously look
at last year as an example why nationally some people
are completely off because last year, right, the over under
was five and a half games, the Broncos blasted right
past that. Man, So you can look at that and say, like,
they don't know what they're talking about. But now now
that they now that they love you, they're like, yeah,
they know exactly what they're talking about. You know what
(32:23):
I'm saying. Right, last year, when they thought that you
were only gonna win five or six games, they was
suckers and idiots and chuckleheads. And now that everyone's like,
the Broncos are gonna be great, The Broncras are gonna
be great now now they know exactly what to talk about.
Everybody knows what to talk about now that the Broncos
is gonna be great. But yeah, I mean, listen, I
(32:45):
think when you talk about ball, when you when you
try to put a tier list together, I guess when
we start talking about everybody. When you go into an
NFL season, he's looking around as a fan AND's just like,
who's the best teams in this league right now? And
how do they get there? NFL's a copycat? Well, all
these leads are copycat, Lisa, how do they do to
(33:07):
get to where they were? What they did?
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Do?
Speaker 3 (33:09):
Like, everybody's looking at what the Chiefs did, But why
wouldn't you? Andy Reid probably the best coach in the
league right now? How does he go about his business?
Find out how and copy it? But I once get
I just like Jeff Legwall mentioned in his article about
Zach Allen, like I know I know somebody who has
who makes lists, but not because she has a bad memory,
(33:31):
just because she gets enjoyment out of marking stuff off
her list. And so you know, she makes a big
listen and should just mark it off like the stuff
as she goes. And that's what the Broncos are doing.
The Broncos are going right down the checklist of what
you need them to do, and I'm frankly it's making
me nervous. Everything is going so well, it feels like
(33:53):
something weird's gonna happen, right, It just feels that way.
But we'll see. It should be an interesting week of practice,
especially once to get to San Francisco. Training Camp coverage
on Altitude Sports Radio is powered by Ramos Law, the
official injury law firm partner of Broncos Country. Will be
right back. The Monkeys, bro the Monkeys.
Speaker 4 (34:11):
You know what?
Speaker 3 (34:11):
I heard somebody say that the Monkeys were the highest
charting music group of the sixties or sold the most
singles of any group in this And I was like,
isn't it wasn't that the Beatles and stuff happening in
the sixties. What is the Monkeys doing? Topic? But it
doesn't matter. Training camp coverage on Altitude Sports rados is
powered by Ramos Law, the official injury law firm partner
(34:33):
of Broncos Country. Mark Burton, only coming out you live here,
Broncos training Camp. I'm not right yet, people, I'm not right,
you know what I mean? Like I'm still wobbly. This
is my first day back from vacation. I have no
idea what happened last week. Man, when I break, I break,
I somebody like somebody could have nuked Paris and I
wouldn't have known somebody could be like I hate the
(34:54):
Eiffel Tower, boom blew, the just a nuclear explosion. I
would have had no idea until I was driving in
work this morning. I heard it on the news. I
was checked out people, And I love it. I love
it so much, although I can't believe with Thursday's Hall
of Fame game. Now we we have we have football
every week until mid February. Right, we have football every
(35:15):
week now, It's all. It's all we got. We got
a college football game here and ten days and like
a week and a half or something. Broncos play game
in six days. We got some more preseason games on Thursday. Wait, wait,
when's the next week? We do have some NFL games
this week. I mean everybody starts up this week when
(35:36):
it comes to preseason games, but they start on Thursday
or Friday is some weird date like that. We'll we'll
uh well, we'll get things going as the NFL gets
it cranked up. As the Broncos are starting the second
week of a training camp here at Broncos Park. We
(35:56):
should have another healthy crowd out here as a Broncos
country comes strong. We've had some interesting responses on the
on the on the text line and it, and a
lot of people have been like, yeah, brother, I'm I'm
buying in. I'm I'm buying in. I'm here for it,
like I I I like what I see and I
(36:20):
see what I like or you know whatever whatever that means.
But you know what I'm talking about. People enjoy, uh,
the way the Broncos have put this team together, and
it should be Uh, I don't know, man, it's gonna be. Listen,
I've said it and I've said it forever that whether
you like football, you hate football, or you don't know
(36:42):
what the hell football is, mondays in this city are
better when the Broncos win. I'm telling you right now,
you you can work with somebody who has no idea
what the game of football is or thinks football or soccer,
whatever it is, and they will tell you that the
city it's a happier, better, shinier place to live when
the Broncos win went up Bronco went on Sunday, Monday
(37:06):
is a great day. It's just one of those things.
It's just one of those things that UH that the
that the team uh seems to lift the mood of
the city. And I'm not necessarily sure that's the same
with the with the Rockies and the Nugs or the Abs,
but part of it is just how few games there
are uh in an NFL season. UH. In the NBA.
(37:32):
Luka Doncic, Luca de solisa man. Luca was on the
cover of Men's Health looking yoke to slim and all
in shape, and he's been doing his Jordan Brand tour.
He's been going to a couple of different cities like
Chicago and in New York, and then he went to
(37:54):
l A and he signed a three year extension with
the Lakers. Why just three years? Why just three years?
It's a three year deal with a that third year
is a player option, so Luke and can get out
of it. And what it means is Luka Doncic is
looking to become the first eighty million dollar a season
(38:18):
player in NBA history, which he can probably do here
in a couple of seasons. When he recent with he
signs a supermas he will get to they will. The
LA Lakers will be paying Luka Doncic one million dollars
per game. How do you like them? Apples Gilmore one
million dollars a game. It's probably worth it two, but
(38:38):
that's great. Yeah, eighty million dollars a year contract and
the best players in the NBA are are going to
be getting a million dollars a game. That's that's where
we are now in sports. And I'm sure, well, who's
the highest paid athlete on the planets. It's either Ronald
or a messy right, And but then after that, it's
a baseball play. He's gotta be a baseball It's show
a right, it's show a half a bit. But I'm
(39:01):
telling you, man, NBA players that they're not slacking when
it comes to these contracts. Now, a million dollars per game?
Can you imagine that? Can you imagine just going back,
can you imagine just telling Hastings of the eighties when
Hay teams playing with the Pistons, Like, Hey, Scotty, guess
what here? In thirty years, you're gonna have guys making
a million dollars per game per game. But I guess more.
(39:25):
I don't care how much he makes or how much
he's getting paid. I just I mean, if if Luca
is in shape and Lebron doesn't pull that punk Lebron thing,
like get me out of here, I want to go
play for somebody because Lebron is he's no longer the
face of the LA Lakers. That's Luca. Luca is the
face of the LA Lakers right now, and he's also
(39:47):
the player that they're relying on to get them forward.
But I don't know that. I mean, the Western Conference
in the NBA is stupid and dumb and ridiculous, and
the Denver Nuggets just did exactly what the bron Cous
have done. Like it's there's like I asked, the text
line is there, do you have a criticism about the
Denver Broncos off season? And I've yet to see one
on the text line And the same thing for do
(40:09):
you have a criticism of the Denver Nuggets offseason? Because man,
they feel like they felt like they had one of
the best off seasons in the NBA and they did
everything right. But now and then you're gonna have to
deal with I mean, the AFC in the NFL and
the Western Conference in the NBA to nasty, nasty conferences, man,
(40:32):
and you have to deal with it. So Luca got paid.
Damian Lillard is gonna be the GM at Weaber State.
My man, he's still in the NBA. Took the GM job.
He did. We were State. Came to like how much
you're paying Dame, Like Dame is making like fifty million
this year I think, and almost sixty million next year
(40:54):
and the last year of that deal or whatever. And
I thought that was crazy. I thought that was crazy.
Now that you gonta dudes make eighty million dollars a year,
it's a whole different picture. You know who? You know
who I really used to like as an NBA player,
Gilbert Renas And my man got arrested. What are you
doing with these high stakes poker game? Like, listen, man,
(41:15):
you can if like, what are you going to your
buddy's house and dropping thousands of dollars on it and
then getting arrested by the Feds? Like you can gamble
on almost anything on your phone right now?
Speaker 4 (41:28):
Right?
Speaker 3 (41:28):
Is it? Is it? Because there's a limit? Can I not?
Like if I go on bet MGM or something like that?
Could I put like a hundred thousand dollars bet on
something or there's a limit, right, I don't know. I
don't know. I don't do it, but maybe is that?
Why is that why Gilbert's like, no, no, no, Unless
I can put down a thirty thousand dollars bet, it's
not really gambling. I don't know. But anyway, he's in
(41:49):
all kinds of trouble. He got hit with a federal indictment.
So that's that's a little tough for my man. And
finally for our week, head back to the NFL News
and notes. The quick note from the NBA that I
saw Chris Paul's now with the La Clippers. I saw
a lot of Nugget fans saying that when they talk
(42:12):
about the one disappointment they had with the Nuggets offseason
is that they didn't get Chris's the backup point guard
here in Denver. He's now in it. He's playing for
the Clippers again. But I don't mean I like Chris Paul.
And if you have Chris Paul on your team, it's
more like having a coach than a player. Right now, then,
although he is a Hall of Fame player, what would
(42:34):
the Nuggets be a better team if Chris Paul was
the backup point compared to whoever they're gonna have run
the backup point, I'm assuming Jalen Pickett or whoever else
you want. I mean, well, I keep forgetting Bruce's back,
Brucey be his back. I keep forgetting that he's a
ball handler too. So like, yeah, I'm not, I'm not
(42:56):
as I'm not as freaked out as as some people
are where they're like, we missed out a big we
should act, we should have got Chris Paul. Can't believe
we missed out on that one. But either way, Luca
getting paid. I guess it's kind of way Joker didn't
sign his extension this year because he can get an
even bigger extension next year. It's the same thing Luca
(43:17):
did when he signed a three year deal with a
player option for that third year. So basically just signed
a two year extension with LA because he'll get I mean,
there's no way he'll pick up that player option, even
though it's a good chunk of money, because he's gonna
get almost double that in the next contract, which is
amazing to me and absolutely fascinating. What else happened this
(43:39):
weekend before we get back to football. Drew Sanders, uh
did have surgery on that foot.
Speaker 4 (43:46):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (43:47):
Sean Payton said north of four to six weeks for him.
Cam Young won yesterday in the PGA, which does I
mean whatever. I don't care about Cameron Young, but he
did become the one thousandth different first time winner in
PGA Tour history. So he became the one thousandth first
(44:10):
time winner in the history of the PGA. Tom speaking
of golf, my man Tom Brady, Well, he's not my man,
he's Jesse's man, Tom Brady taking shots at Scottie Scheffler. Man. Remember,
so Scheffler's dealing with that, Like, Scheffler's got some things.
Even though he's the best golfer in the world right now.
He's like, he's like, this is professional athlete. This is
(44:31):
not a fulfilling life. He's like, I'd rather be a
good husband and a father than a good golfer. And
then Tom Brady came back at demand saying like, why
can't you have both? He's like when I was playing,
He's like, I focused all my attention on football instead
of my family. But that was a good thing because
(44:52):
it showed my kids that this is the way you
have to be successful in life. This is how to
be great in in life. But my man's taking shot
at Scotty Scheffler. But Tom, you you got divorced because like,
like the gate, your addiction to football cost you is
super model, right, Like that's why they got divorced. Right,
(45:15):
It wasn't because he was eating crackers in bed, right,
It's because he wouldn't stop playing football and when we
went to Yeah, and so I find it weird that
Tom Brady's criticizing Scottie Scheffler over him trying to find
a happy balance between work and life. And Tom's just like, no, man,
you got to dedicate yourself to the sport and then
your kids will know that that's how you have to
(45:37):
live your life, even though they hate if they hate
you when you grow up or whatever. It's absolutely insane.
But either way, all right, that's the first hour, the
appetizer hour. Uh, thanks for tuning in. We are coming
alive out here. Broncos Camp training camp coverage on Altitude
Sports Radio is powered by Romos Law, the official injury
law firm partner of Broncos Country, Mark Mosher and Vick Lombardi.
