Speaker 1 (00:00):
Wouldn't you know it? Another day here at Broncos Park,
powered by common Spirit, and one day closer to joint
practice day between the Broncos and the Cardinals, which after
that we're done here. Nothing else for us to see
or do, at least not allowed. Legally. I could sneak
(00:23):
in overnight, get on one of these towers with binoculars
and take a peek and just see if I'm arrested,
It's possible, but legally tomorrow's our last day allowed to
be here. Now, had something else I wanted to start
the show with, but this just broke this morning. And
I love when breaking news happens during our show because
(00:46):
it never does. So there is a contract extension. You know,
there's a lot of guys who are not necessarily doing holdouts,
but hold inns, which means I'm going to show up
to camp, but I want to let you know that
I'm not very happy about my situation, and that seems
(01:06):
to be the more common thing because guys don't want
to risk losing money. Now, typically, what happens, if I
understand this correctly, over the last you know, ten years
or so, a guy holds out of for contract disputes
they sign the contract and they basically make up the
money that he lost for the time that he missed.
(01:26):
I don't know if something's changed where they aren't doing
that anymore, but now a lot of guys are showing
up at camp waiting to get paid. In the latest
who just got paid According to Adam Schefter this morning
is Bill's running back, James Cook. So he agreed to
(01:46):
a four year, forty eight million dollar extension with This
is a high over the last five years for that position.
Thirty million dollars guaranteed in it all, Like when I
heard that news. There's a couple of different details that
(02:08):
stand out most. He's a twenty five year old back.
He is a very good back and very important to
what they want to do. He's ran for a thousand
yards over the last two years. He had sixteen touchdowns
on the ground last year alone, not to mention he
caught thirty two balls for two hundred and fifty eight yards.
(02:29):
He's a very very important part to their offense when
they want him to be. He doesn't always have to be.
But I've had this feeling over the last two three
years that we're gonna go. You know, everything is sort
of cyclical and it's got its ebbs and flows. That
position in particular is making somewhat of a renaissance. You know,
(02:53):
we went from you know, in the nineties, if you
didn't have one of those guys, then there's no shot
that you're gonna be contender. You needed to have. Even
for the teams that stunk, they recognized that they needed
one of those guys. You had to have at Terrell Davis.
You had to have an Emmitt Smith. You had to
have a Barry Sanders, you had to have a Walter Payton,
(03:14):
you had to have an Eric Dickerson. You had to
have like all these different guys you had to And
then it started to shift more into a committee approach,
which is now my offense and my blocking scheme is
good enough. I don't need to pay a running back
to do this. Plus they break down a lot easier.
I'm just going to do this sort of cycle of
(03:36):
different guys that I could throw in that starting running
back spot and make things work. And they did that
all the way up until it felt like four or
five years ago. And that's probably even being a little
bit generous saying five, because you would get a guy
on a rookie contract. He'd play through his rookie contract.
You'd give him the deuces and be like, if you
(03:57):
can find money somewhere else, then go ahead, but I'm
not gonna keep you around. And now what I have
noticed is a resurgence of running backs draft picks being
early picks. Again. I have noticed that there's a lot
more guys getting second contracts in the league. Now you
have to be good enough, and there is a line
(04:18):
of demarcation of like you're either good enough or you're
not really gonna play ever again. And the drop off
for that position still is very, very quick. I mean,
Zeke Elliott was on top of the world and then
was an afterthought by basically every team almost immediately. There
have been guys that have lived and survived through that
(04:39):
second contract and made it out. Okay, I mean, those
are your elites of the league. They're your Saquans and
Derrick Henry's. But now what it feels like you want
to get the second contract. You kind of gotta be
a do it all guy. You kind of gotta be
a I can run the ball out of the backfield,
but also I can line up and catch two. You
(05:01):
gotta be able to do both. If you can't, then
you're gonna have a hard time sticking around long term
in this league. So when Sean Payton talks about the
joker position, and he said he was talking to Kay
Adams yesterday, Jesse, I just sent this to you. He
(05:22):
talked about how his idea of a joker is a
tight end or running back who has elite receiving skills.
Why because it provides a really big mismatch and a
nightmare for a defense. If you got a tight end
that's like Travis Kelcey, what do you do Do you
put a linebacker on him? Well, he's too fast? Do
(05:43):
you put a safety on him while he's too big?
They're just nightmares to deal with. And so when it
comes to guys like James Cook, guys who can kind
of do everything, it puts you at this pretty amazing
place at that position where you do become quasi indispensable.
(06:04):
You know, Christian McCaffrey got paid a ton of money
on his contract extension. He was a huge signing. I
think the number is somewhere around sixteen million dollars a year.
He didn't get paid that to be a running back.
He got paid that to be both. You know, it's
it's like a tight end that can do that, has
(06:25):
really elite blocking skills and can also catch. It's why
George Kettle is such like a unicorn. You're paying him
to be basically an extra tackle on your offensive line,
but also we got that can get you Adye catches
a year. It's a huge advantage. But I think there's
a resurgence going on right now at that position, and
it's one of the reasons why I've had my eye
(06:49):
keenly on that during camp this year. The improvement of
that position in what they can bring to the table
in which you haven't had over the last few years,
an actual threat to pay attention to. Now we'll see
if guys like RJ. Harvey and JK. Dobbins can be
(07:10):
dudes that instill fear into a defense. A lot of
that is dependent on offensive line, a lot of that's
dependent on if you have leads, A lot of that's
dependent on if they fear your quarterback. But bottom line
is they at least have an explosiveness that wasn't there.
(07:31):
And that's where when I made the mistake yesterday we
were watching the highlight reel of R. J. Harvey and
not JK. Dobbins. See now I'm almost saying JK. Simmons,
the actor from Whiplash. I got a real problem with
these names, and I don't know what it is. Literally
had to stop myself from saying JK. Simmons. But with
those two in particular, they bring in explosiveness that just
(07:56):
hasn't existed and can provide different dynamic to your offense
that you didn't previously have. And so if you guys
are curious, this is, by the way, when I was
talking about you know, Kay Adams was here yesterday and
she had to sit down with Sean Payton and all
we've heard all off season is joker, joker, joker. He
(08:18):
actually kind of gives us an explanation of what that is.
Go ahead, Jesse. They're freaking out of her. The joker.
Who's the joker? You're looking for? Your joker? Is Evan
Angram your joker? Who's your joker? Will you finally tell
me he's a joker? Is he the joker of the team?
So what is a joker?
Speaker 2 (08:36):
I'm going to tell you it's it's a running back
or a tight end that has elite, rare receiving skills.
So Travis Kelsey's a joker, Kittles the joker, Scrolls, Gibbs Hawkins.
So yeah, potential he has. He doesn't have his joker wing.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
He doesn't.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
He doesn't work for what is that he didn't have
his wings yet he'll get him. Ingram's a joker.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
He's a joker. Who's a joker? Your defense?
Speaker 2 (09:10):
I think Baron is one of those guys that can
play a lot of different spots. Riley Moss can play
a lot of different spots. And I would say up
front Zach Allen is one of those guys that can travel.
But but the term is it's and and not even
realizing it. In those early years we had Bush and
(09:31):
then SHOCKI and then Sprolls and Graham and Kamara, and
there were a ton of jokers.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
So you can right there that is I'll give you
another name for joker. It's versatility. That's all it is.
He's just looking for a guy who can do a
lot of different things. You know, if shoey Otani is
a joker, Travis Hunter is a joker. In some ways
there is just stay leveled to it. Where when Sean
(10:01):
Payton talks about that position, with Kay Adams. He's really
just saying how many different things can you do to
affect the game. Like the one thing I think that
makes uh Sean Payton a little bit uneasy about some
guys is at their one trick ponies if they just
do one thing really well. You know, he wants people
(10:23):
that he's going to be able to trust in all
these different situations. Why do you think third downs for
his running backs is such an important trait to not
only be able to catch, but to be able to protect.
He doesn't want liabilities out there. And if you're somebody
he can trust every down and you can put him
in multiple different spots, then that matters. So I say
(10:47):
this to tell you running backs are now getting paid. R. J.
Harvey is the rookie on this roster. He is competing
with JK. Dobbins, and I think it's really those two
for playing time. If Harvey wants to get some sort
of second contract, the way that he can do it
(11:08):
is by being a beast in the passing game. Again,
that includes pass protection, and I think that might be
the hardest thing for him to try and jump through
in this rookie year is will you gain the trust
of Sean Payton in that department, because if you do,
(11:32):
then you now become, as far as importance on the team,
or at least on the offense, you might be the
most important guy. Now. The Saints over the years have
had really really talented wide receivers. They've had Marquise Colston's
and they've had Joe Horns, and they've had more recently
(11:53):
Chris o'laves. But I don't think there's any doubting that
what he valued most was guys like Alvin Kamara Jimmy Graham,
because they are just matchup nightmares. It's like, where can
you find advantages on the margins? A lot of teams
got good wide receivers. No, it's part of the reason
(12:17):
why I don't think they've invested nearly as much in
that than they have as far as talking about putting
the resources into tight end and running back. They go
out this year and they completely rechange the running back room.
They go out and find a tight end that is
(12:39):
leaps and bounds more talented than anybody they've had there
in probably five or six years at least. Why not
do that for wide receiver? They could have gone out
and spent some big money on some guy try to
make a trade and instead they put it there. Why
because the matchups you can win there easier then you
(13:03):
cannot wide out. And so I think that the NFL
is starting to see the same thing. It's why James
Cook got this contract. It's why you were seeing a
lot more. I was going over this with with Birdo
a couple of weeks ago, where when you look at
the amount of carries that players have had over the years,
(13:28):
and there was a ton of backs that totaled a
certain number that hasn't been reached by a lot of
guys over the last few years. You have to go
back probably seven or eight to find this, but you
had six guys with over three hundred carries last year.
(13:49):
Didn't used to be that way, but you're seeing that
now with Bijon Robinson. I mean, the top guys were
obviously Saquon Saekuon Derrick, Henry Kirn Williams in La Jon Robinson,
Jonathan Taylor in Indianapolis, Josh Jacobs in Green Bay. They're
(14:11):
relying on a single guy to do the work because
that guy is a guy that they trust. You still
have committees, you still have teams, that if you aren't
the elite of the elite type of running back, they
will split time with somebody else. But god, if you
find one, you're in really good shape. So three zero
(14:31):
three five four h nine two five Alive out here
from Broncos Park. Another day of Broncos Camp. Back after this,
all right, back out here Broncos Camp. Another day of
Broncos Camp and all training camp coverage on Altitude Sparts
(14:52):
Radio is powered by Rob mus Law, the official injury
law firm partner of Broncos Country. So I saw this
the other day yesterday, So I have made my case
on this very very clear. I'm sick of the Kelsey's.
(15:16):
I've been sick of the Kelceys for about two years.
I don't like this whole thing where it's like we're
professional wrestlers who kind of sort of maybe maybe kind
of dabble in some other stuff, and then everybody sees
them as like I saw this. He was on the
(15:38):
cover of what was it, GQ magazine or something like that,
and a whole bunch of different bear outfits and stuff
like that. It's like America's Sweetheart, And I was like,
don't no, not true. People in Kanada City love Travis Kelcey.
Taylor Swift fans loved Travis Kelcey. That's it. He's getting
on people's nerves now, and they have the big pot
(16:00):
cast coming out. Is that today that comes out with
Taylor Swift, where I guess she's got some album, new
album she's releasing or something something. I've said this before.
If people are that into Taylor Swift, it feels a
little bit like you need to be medicated. Okay, he
(16:20):
can't be that into a celebrity that you don't know,
cannot happen. My wife doesn't love me as much as
some of these Taylor Swift fans love Taylor Swift. That's
problem maybe for both of us. But the point is,
got this big podcast coming out, and so now there's
(16:40):
these stories coming out with Travis Kelcey. And he said
this in the GQ cover story. His production was down
last year. He had eight hundred and twenty three receiving
yards and three touchdowns. It's the lowest since his rookie season.
And I think it's just very clear and obvious that
(17:02):
he's older and he doesn't have the same sort of
burst that he used to have. Here's what he said
talking about his production. I think it might have slipped
a little bit because I did have a little bit
more focused in trying to set myself up, and the
opportunities came up where I was excited to venture into
(17:24):
a new world of acting and being an entertainer. I
don't say this as I shouldn't have done it. I'm
just saying that my work ethic is such that I
feel so I have so much pride in how I
do things that I never want the product to tail off,
and I feel like these past two years haven't been
to my standard. Now, I think to say that he
(17:51):
was focusing on the new world of acting and being
an entertainer is a little bit much. What did he do?
He just did Happy Gilmore, which if you watch the movie,
he was in it for like a grand total of
a minute in twenty seconds. It's not like he was
grinding every day on set. He hosted SNL once. That's
(18:15):
a week. Let's not pretend that like he went to
the practice field, got off and started reading scripts with
the Niro. Okay, I think the answer is a lot
simpler that Travis Kelsey's in his upper thirties, and when
you do that you don't move as well. I'm not
a professional athlete. I will be thirty six in a
(18:37):
couple of months. I know exactly what that feels like.
Can't do things like he used to? My knee hurts?
Why don't know? Just does I shall do? Know why?
I played golf and then walked to my dog. Not
exactly strenuous activity. But I'm older, so that's what happens now.
(19:00):
So he can blame this on the entertainment aspect, Why
doesn't he just say, instead of being an entertainer, I
spend a lot of time following my girlfriend around the world.
That would make a lot more sense that you. You
weren't acting, but you were in I don't know, the
Bahamas for some sort of concert or Brazil, and you
(19:21):
would walk on stage occasionally. That's all. Sorry, I'm just
I'm so over the Kelsey stuff. I can't Somebody said
he had a game show too? Did he have a
game Could you look this up for me? Cool? Look
at what this game show was that Travis Kelsey was doing.
(19:44):
Because both him, both him and his brother all right hand,
are you smarter than a celebrity? Oh my god, these
guys doesn't like Steph Curry had three different shows that
I've never seen before and have never talked to. Somebody
who was said they've seen them before. He's got the
the was it the Mini Golf Show? And then I
(20:06):
just saw he was doing something else. I'm like, all right,
hang on hand? Holy moly, and oh about last night?
Is that hang on hand? He co hosts with his
wife Aisha is a couple's get That's right, a couple's
game show that tesssel Well partners know each other. So
here's what they're doing. They're just taking games that existed
back in the day and just re rehashing them. That
(20:28):
is I will say this for not I guess not athletes,
I guess for them. It's an easy check for everybody.
It's an easy check. Tell you what if you want
me to go and host what's the the Wackhamall Show? Whammy?
What is that called? Press your luck? If you want
me to go host that show on the game show
network instead of doing this job, I will sign immediately.
(20:51):
They pump out like fifty of those shows in a
day and then you don't work for three months. I
will do that right now, because I think it's a
Elizabeth Banks that hosts that show. But all I'm saying
is there there can't be anybody if I ask you
right now, everybody listening to the six o'clock hour, and
(21:13):
we can do just impromptu strawpol here. Is there anyone
out there that is not tired of the Kelsey thing?
Anyone if you're driving your kid in the car on
the way to school in the kids a big Taylor
Swift fan, and they said, I like Travis Kelsey. I
(21:34):
want to know. I want to know who it is
that is doing the Uh yeah, don't mind him. Pretty
good guy. Think he's funny. And if you think he's funny,
I swear to god. Texter says, not a fan of Kelsey,
but I don't hate him like Bretton does. Now you
(21:55):
listen to the show, we hate him. We're a group,
We're a team here on this show that Travis. We
hate you here football wise and entertainment wise, we hate you.
Get out of here. I'm just so tired of it,
and I just know what's coming. And this is what's
gonna bother me. Is all I have is Twitter. This
(22:17):
is all I have because I can't do with the
other stuff. I can't get into a new thing. When
Twitter dies, I will I will be off the internet.
It's just the way I'm gonna be. But I know
I'm gonna scroll through this whenever this podcast drops tonight,
and it's all I'm gonna see is clips of that,
and I just I'm gonna want to chuck my phone
off of skyscraper. That's all I'm gonna want to do.
(22:43):
So Yes, this was a personal affront to me, and
it's something that I had to get off my chest
for the sake of my own wellbeing. Okay, people take
mental health days all the time. This is my mental
health segment. I needed one other than that. See, this
is what I like. I like when the text line
(23:04):
looks like this. Yep, don't like him. I'm with you, Brett.
We're a team here, you listen, We're a team. Beyond that,
here's what's funny about the Chiefs. I think I can
make a direct case why do people And this is
a pretty amazing detail. And God would this be annoying
if you're in Kansas City. But guess what I ain't
(23:28):
You had a team that was fifteen to one last
year that basically punted the last week of the season.
To make them fifteen and two against the Broncos, they
go to the playoffs, they make the Super Bowl. Do
they get beat up in the Super Bowl? Sure? But
they made it again. And everybody looked at last year
with Kansas City as if it was some sort of
(23:50):
like disappointment that they didn't look as good, that you
don't believe in them as much. And I'm as guilty
as anybody. I'm the first one to tell you that
if I had to project what Kansas City was gonna
do this year, I would say probably. It feels like
it's gonna be the worst version of the Chiefs since
(24:11):
mahomes Like took over. Something didn't look right, and I
think I know what it is. Kansas City was so
good last year because their defense was elite, like top
of the league, unbelievably good. But we have been so
used to The way you lose to Kansas City is
(24:31):
the witch that lines up under center just completely eviscerates you,
whether that's over the course of four quarters or you're
in the game and in the fourth quarter he tears
you apart. And the offense was not a threat last year.
And why was it not a threat? Because the guy
we were just discussing. Ain't the same dude anymore because
(24:53):
he's old. This is what happens when people age their
game drops off. It falls off a cliff. Sometimes it's
a gradual drop, and this feels like gradual. Like do
I think? I literally don't think there's any chance that
Travis Kelcey and maybe this will go on. This will
be a mooji for a worse prediction. I don't think
(25:16):
there's any chance Travis Kelcey's game and production jumps back
up to what it was three years ago. I think
he's aged out of it. And it's not like a
slight or an insult on the guy. It's just what happens.
But because they've had this sort of holy trinity for
(25:36):
eight years of this dominant run in Kansas City of
three people who have always been the mainstays, indispensable parts
of their success. It has been Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelcey
and Chris Jones. Those are the three they have let
everybody else walk, people that you thought were great players.
Tyreek Hill, see, you don't care. We got our three
guys that we trust. When one of that falls apart,
(26:00):
and they don't seem to have a backup plan. Then
I get to a point where I'm like, Okay, there's
a chink in the armor. You can take advantage, and
I really do. It's part of the reason, like most
of the reason why I think the Broncos are gonna
compete this year for the division is because I think
the Broncos are good, and that's the best place to be.
(26:22):
Why do you think your team's gonna do well? Because
I think the team's good. The bad answer is like,
if you're the Houston Texans, You're like, are you gonna
win the division? And the answer is yes, and it's
why because our division sucks. Look also would be nice
to have. But when you're competing against KC, and I say,
the main reason why I think you're gonna be competitive
(26:45):
is because this team is good. Talking about the Broncos
they've gotten better, well, that's a good place to start,
along with the fact that I just don't think Kansas City,
if they don't have Travis Kelce being that guy, can
be the same level of a threat unless they find
another Travis Kelsey, which good luck because we're talking about
(27:08):
arguably one of the best tight ends in NFL history.
But it's one of the weird things. When Kansas City
goes fifteen and one last year before they punted the
final week they make the Super Bowl. We're like, wow,
had a really kind of crappy year, And you're like, well,
(27:28):
they won fifteen games, can't be all that bad. But
I totally understand where that conversation comes from, and I
kind of agree with it. It just didn't look the same.
There's still gonna be a problem because their defense is
still gonna be very good, and they still have my homes.
But it's just not like there isn't this fear. Let's
say that used to exist. I tell you the Broncos.
(27:53):
Let me pull up their schedule for a second. So
the Broncos this year, they are heading to Kansas City
in Christmas Day. That's right, it's a Christmas Day game.
Do you have a fear that that Christmas Day game
is gonna be like the one a couple of years
(28:13):
ago under Hackett where Baker Mayfield steps in, you know,
on like two minutes after signing with the Rams and
just lights you up for fifty points. The fear just
isn't there anymore. It's like that's that sort of waned
away and now you feel like you were able to
(28:35):
be Uh, it's it. I said it last year heading
into the Kansas City game that it felt like a
coin flip game to me, and boy was it. I
mean literally a block kick at the end of the
game that was a chip shot for Will Wotts is
the difference. But they just don't have the same fear.
By the way, Jesse, very important. I need you to
pull up the Cupid shuffle please. So once you find
(28:57):
the Cupid shuffle, if you can't, no big deal. It's fine.
But Brandon Jones is back doing his shuffles in the morning.
It's been a while since I've seen it. Wasn't here
last week, the last day I was here, two weeks ago,
he didn't come out. He wasn't out yesterday. I just
want to make sure my guy's okay. That's all good
(29:18):
to see Brandon Jones back doing his shuffles. But again,
I don't have the the drastic fear that used to
be there. And it's a combination of you thinking your
team's better but also thinking the Chiefs might have taken
a step back. Texas says they also won a bunch
(29:39):
of fluke one score games. I would agree with that,
But a bunch and Fluke contradict each other. Oh there
you go, Jesse, Yes, all right. For the people who
are watching on twitch and YouTube, give me, give me
a turn. Look at look at brand Jones on the
(30:00):
far side doing the shuffles, getting the stretches in. That's
just a treat for the viewing audience. He's on the
far side of the field taking a walk. Very nice, Jesse, quick,
quick on the trigger. But a textra says they've also
won a bunch of Fluke one score games. Again, fluke
(30:22):
means a one off. Can't believe that happened. Bunch means
bunch like a lot that doesn't compute. And I know
exactly what you're talking about. It's a tonail out of bound.
It's a block kick at the end of the game.
It's a penalty that was or wasn't called at the
end of the game. It's a whole bunch of different
(30:43):
things like that that led to them winning a lot.
I get it. But also I would say you could
say fluke. You could also say, hey, they just know
how to make the play when they need to because
they got a lot of experience in that department. But
it's just it's a different way of viewing that team
(31:04):
and really just viewing the division. Like, I don't think
it's just the Broncos thinking this way. I think it's
also the the Chargers feel the same way. You know.
I have no idea what's going on a Raiders camp.
My guess is they're probably gonna finish in the cellary
again this year. There's some people who think they're making
a jump. I don't see it, Like Pete Carroll's a
(31:25):
good coach, but look at their roster compared to others
in the AFC West, and it's not particularly close. Like
one thing I am excited about, and we can get
to this later, there is a potential for the Broncos
offense to be like the most talented in the division,
(31:49):
depending on some of these new acquisitions. Your Ingram's, your Harvey's,
your Dobbins. You could be the offense that people would
most want to have in the AFC West. And it starts,
I think, with the offensive line. But you're so used
to looking around and seeing, Uh, if you just if
(32:11):
we eliminate the quarterback from the discussion for a second
and take all ten other positions that start on offense.
Would you take anybody's over the Denver Broncos So we
can get to that in just a second. Three zero
three five oh four oh nine two five. We got
Jesse back at the Bacchus and Shanker Studios, serious lawyers
(32:32):
for the seriously injured. I want to get your thoughts
on that in just a second. As well as how
with the Rocks with a three to zero win yesterday.
I was watching during that a huge bomb from Hunter Goodman.
He put it up second deck about a four hundred
and forty five foot shot crushed it. So they get
the win yesterday. But to continue this, Broncos talk again
(32:55):
another day here Broncos Park powered by Common Spirit Training
camp coverage on altitude sports. He is powered by Romas Law,
the official injury law firm, partner of Broncos Country. Back
after this, back out of here Broncos Park, and Texta says,
put down the kool aid. Brett Denver's offense isn't close
(33:17):
to Casey or La. Nobody would take Denver's offense over
La right now, sorry now at Buffalo, Baltimore, Houston, Cincinnati,
and it equals Denver missing the playoffs, as they all
have far better offenses. Well, I agree with the last
ones that you mentioned Buffalo, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Houston. Sure, I
said eliminate the quarterback from the discussion. Which roster would
(33:40):
you take? And I think that is up for debate.
I think if you look at Kansas City's offense right now,
they have in aging Travis Kelcey, Rashi Rice, who you
don't even know if he's gonna be on the field
or not. You have Xavier Word who is fast but
(34:01):
hasn't proven anything. You have Isaiah Pitcheco, who was good
a couple of years ago, got hurt and now it's
kind of struggled. Like I, I don't know if that's
a guarantee. I'm saying, like eight weeks in the season,
let's say RJ. Harvey becomes a guy, Evan Ingram brings
a big boost to the offense, Troy Franklin takes a
(34:22):
step forward this year like that. As far as LA,
I mean LA, they're kind of in the same boats.
They got Najie Harris and they got a Marion Hampton,
so they got the veteran guy along with the rookie
at running back. That sounds pretty similar to what the
Broncos are working with. They have one wide receiver that
(34:42):
you can really trust in lad McConkie. The Broncos have
one in Courtland Sutton. But I think they're better depth
wise at white out. Again, it's I don't think it's
that much of a stretch. So then you're just kind
of coming down to how good do you think bo
Nicks is? And everybody's all over the map on that one.
(35:03):
Whether you think he's okay, he's good, he's great, he's
not good, he's below average, whatever. Everybody's kind of got
their own thoughts on that. But I'm of the mind
that I think that they can be as good as
any offense in the division. They scored as many They
scored the most points in the division of any team
last year. Did they get help with a couple of
(35:27):
defensive touchdowns? Sure. Did they have their own struggles where
they were bad on third down? Yeah, but they did it. Like,
if you just want to go to which team scored
the most points in the division last year through eighteen
or eighteen weeks, the Denver Broncos did. So it's not
that long of a stretch for me to make the
(35:49):
argument for something else. NFL wise, just real quick. So
this story coming out of Pittsburgh. So Aaron Rodgers is
forced to wear this new helmet. So the NFL's annual
laboratory testing finally forced the retirement of Rogers' preferred helmet model,
(36:14):
the shoult Air XP pro Q eleven Ltd. This's all
from the from NFL dot com. So he's worn this
since twenty twelve, I believe, but he's forced to wear
this other helmet and he goes, yeah, still don't like it.
(36:37):
I'm trying to change. We're in the process. Still, it
looks like a darn spaceship out there. We have to
change it. The face mask doesn't fit the helmet because
that's an old face mask obviously, just like I'm old.
But we're trying to find the right helmet right now,
isn't isn't there a rule or wasn't well there obviously?
Is like the NHL allowed older players in the league
(37:02):
to skirt the the visor rule. Can't you do that
for old people in the NFL? Now? Most of them
are quarterbacks anyway, quarterbacks and like specialists. If I make
the cutoff like thirty four, and I say, anybody over
thirty four, you can wear whatever helmet you want. Just
(37:23):
do that. I think it is kind of weird to
be like, you know what. I wonder if they do
this to Tom Brady if he was still in the league.
Let's say Tom Brady is still playing and he's got
the helmet that he likes, and like, you can't wear
that one anymore. I wonder if they just be like, well, Tom,
go ahead, do that. You can't force the old man
(37:47):
to wear a new helmet whatever. Like this is all
in the focus of like a head injuries and CTE. Right,
whatever Aaron Rodgers got from that helmet the last twelve
years he's got, there ain't gonna be no changing that.
In what is forty Is he forty one years old? Now?
(38:08):
You aren't changing that now. The damage, if there is any,
is done already he wants to as far as I'm concerned,
if Rogers wants to go out there this year with
one of those leather helmets from the forties, then go
ahead and do it. Don't care. There is no protecting
that with a new helmet anymore. Okay, Texas says they
(38:30):
did do it to Brady, No kidding. Again, the question
is why ve malone. It's been in the league for
like fifty years, he should be able to wear whatever
the hell he wants to wear. Three zero three five
four nine two five. We were talking about the story
yesterday John Mattier, that quarterback who transferred to Oklahoma and
(38:53):
he's he's projected to be one of the best quarterbacks
in the league. But he had that screenshots pop up
of his old Venmo account where he paid somebody with
the details in it being sports gambling, one of them
specifically UCLA and USC. So he's got a response to
this where he said, the allegations that I once participated
(39:15):
in sportscambling are false. My previous Venmo descriptions did not
accurately portray the transactions in question, but were instead inside
jokes between me and my friends. I've never been on
sports blah blah blah. I said this yesterday. Don't care
if he did or not. It's back in twenty twenty
two whatever. Second of all, I know what he's talking
(39:37):
about here. I think we've all kind of done this.
In fact, when we were all kind of looking through
because you can see your Venmo, your friends Venmo transactions. Yesterday,
Rush showed me one where somebody paid another guy and
just said nipples whatever that means inside joke between those
two guys. Cool, I've done that before. Let me tell
(40:00):
you something, John Mttier. If if you said cocaine and
hookers as your your transfer, I don't think anybody would
actually think that that's what you paid for. But you
said sports gambling and in parentheses USC versus UCLA. That's
(40:22):
a little bit more accurate. Again, don't care about it.
I don't think this is gonna go anywhere, and it shouldn't.
But that's that's doesn't feel very inside jokey to me,
is all I'm saying. It just feels like you bet
on the U C l A USC game. That's that's
(40:44):
kind of it. So I don't care. But ooh, Spider
kill it for me. You know, there's a spider right
in front of me on the table. Got it, got it? Everybody,
got it? Everybody, Thank you, Thank you. I am you
(41:06):
can call me the Green Goblin because I've killed Spider Man. Whatever. Also,
ESPN they have kind of announced what's going to happen
for inside the NBA, And if you're a fan of
inside the NBA, I don't think you're gonna like some
of these details. First and foremost, there's a big problem
(41:31):
that I have right off the bat when the NBA
season starts. It's one of the best things that you
get to have Inside the NBA back and they kind
of like lead the charge for the NBA season as
it opens up. So this is from Sportsmediawatch dot Com.
(41:54):
ESPN advanced schedule has Inside the NBA airing in a
half hour time slot following the network first doubleheader of
the season. No SVP that night, but he would follow
doubleheader action the following night, which means they aren't going
to be on the air for a while outside that
initial sort of burst. So that show was originally fifty minutes.
(42:17):
In recent years it was almost never below forty minutes,
and now there's a thirty minute window that they're going
to be in. Inside is not currently listed as taking
place the following night, when networks second doubleheader of the
season is scheduled to lead into SVP show. As they
(42:38):
just mentioned, after the opening week of the season, TNT's
NBA studio show is not set to take place again
until Christmas Day. That's the big deal. It's like, why
bring them over to put them on ice for like
a month and a half up until Christmas. You've already
(43:01):
paid the money. What's the difference put them on television? Like,
this is the fear that everybody has about when ESPN
takes something over. ESPN was the crown jewel, the standard
of sports television, and basically every way, they had the
best personalities, they had the best shows, and then all
the things that we loved about ESPN kind of went
(43:24):
by the wayside and it became very opinion, opinion, screamy, screamy, yell, argument,
debate all that, and then you have this show that
is built like perfectly in a way that people will
be nostalgic for whenever this thing ends. And they had
one real sort of job or one sort of detail,
(43:45):
it's like, don't mess with it. You've acquired it. Let
this thing go when it gets here. And it feels
like they're already messing with it in a way that
I do not like. It's why every time there's a
story about PN's got their hands on oh it's there,
they're gonna buy out Red Zone in the NFL network
and all this different stuff, it's like, well, then don't
(44:08):
mess with it. You bought it because it's successful. In
something that people like. What you shouldn't do is go
out and buy something that's successful in what people like
and then say here's how I'm gonna change it. It's like,
don't do that. Leave it. It's the reason we liked
(44:28):
it was it was already good. You don't need to
ruin a good thing. You ever have somebody do that
with like, oh, they're making a steak or they're making
something like that and they're like, yeah, I put my
own little twist on it. It's like, don't do that.
It's just it's good the way it is. You don't
need to No, No, have you ever tried this steak
with peanut butter. I don't need to try the peanut butter.
(44:49):
Just just the steak, salt and pepper, maybe a little
bit like garlic powder or something like whatever. Whatever. That
is fine. You start getting too crazy, you ruin something
that I already like. So anyway, continue this in a
little bit. Can watch if you'll have on twitch, twitch
