Speaker 2 (01:03):
I feel like I did a line.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
I don't know if I'm allowed to say that.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Sorry.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Thank you seriously so much for being here. Just a
quick background information on Crybaby. Nice friendship. We met at
the Blue Man Group NYC at the Astroplace theater. We
were both working front of house. You're my boss for
some time there. Oh, but I remember, I remember when

(01:31):
you were my boss. You were always very helpful and
you were everything and I loved you very much and
working with you is so awesome and I have like
watched your drag career like take off in this beautiful
way and watch you like come into your own and
this like beautiful. You know, you're just such a beautiful
artist to me. And also you host an amazing podcast

(01:51):
called horror Icon, and I remember you talking about about
that to me for so long, and I'm so glad
that you're doing it and making your dreams come true.
So thank you so much for being here.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
Of course, thank you, and thank you for, like I'm
not gonna lie, you' all have been kind of there.
There were a couple of podcasts that were like pins
of inspiration as I was developing what I wanted to do,
and you all were definitely on there. So thank you
for letting me pick your brain and ask you all
the questions.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
So of course, of course, I'm so happy to be here.
I'm so happy to have you.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
And this is perfect too, because I feel like your
podcast fits Buffy and like nineties horror in general, and
just like everything that you've been doing, I'm like that
I think this will collabse so well, So thank you
for being here. Guys.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
The feeling is mutual, so I'm glad we both feel
the same way.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Ye okay, So for anyone who doesn't know, will you
give us like a quick pitch on you, your podcast, everything,
whatever you wanna want to share with us, Like what
is horror Icon about? And who is cry Baby?

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:57):
So to start with me, Crybaby, my drag lives at
the apex of everything that's scary, sexy and stupid. Like
everything that I look at is through a filter of
horror because it's my favorite genre. I will never get
tired of the horror genre.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Obviously.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
I love just being very sex positive and being a
bigger girl and just being like, yeah, I'm sexy and
that's that and then of course stupid. There's another podcast
I listen to where the host says something that always
resonates with me.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
She calls something like.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
A reverent irreverence where.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
It's like I don't take anything seriously, and that is
something that I like holds dear to my heart. I
love nothing, nothing is super serious. So that's where horror
Icon lives too. It's your queer playground for all things scary, sexy,
and stupid. So I love talking about horror films, horror tropes, characters,

(03:59):
and just like analyzing horror through a queer lens because
it's a very very queer genre.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
I know. I don't have to tell you too.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
There's so much interesting stuff to unpack when looking at
horror movies and tropes and trends and historical context.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
It's so fascinating to me. So that's what I'm trying
to do with my show and have fun along the way.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Of course.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Of course, some of my favorite memories with you are
like going to horror movies with you, and I feel
like that's something we connected on pretty early on in
our friendship as well. So I love to see you know,
and I saw this passion for you just like hanging out.
So putting that passion to something creative, I just I
love when I love when my friends do that.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Which ones did you see?

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (04:45):
We saw Megan together, Scream six together. Girl.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
I was so annoying leading up to Scream six as
I was so excited for it.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
No, we were so excited. I like came to work
on a day that I wasn't working so we all
could go together. That was so fun.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
We had a group chat and every morning the first
thing I would do.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
I would be like five days until Scream sticks every day.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Oh my god. I remember getting a missed call from
ghost Face, genuinely terrified and that was you.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
Yeah, because they had that thing where you could go.
It was like part of their marketing where you could
just put in your friend's phone numbers and they would
get that phone call. I put in every single person
in that group chat, and everyone's like, I almost said
my own government name. Everyone's like, cry baby.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
I was terrified. It was awesome. Oh my gosh, fun,
so much fun.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
So I want to shout out her icon because you
have the correct take on the I note you did
last summer reboot talking about Sara Michelle Geller. Yes, Lena,
have you still not seen that much?

Speaker 2 (05:58):
We haven't, but I've seen those clips. I know. I'm
so sorry. I didn't mean to. I love those movies.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
I've seen them all, but like so many people hated
that movie and were up in arms about it, and
I was listening to Horror Icon and y'all had very
positive things to say, and I was just so thrilled
to be with people who got it in the way
that I felt like I got it. And also, as

(06:25):
you said, you on your podcast talk about a lot
of these horror movies through a queer lens, and you
also are just like examining the horror movies beyond you know,
the kills and the chase sequences. And you talk so much,
and you talk about a little bit in the in
the I Know What you did last Summer proper episode,
but especially in the reboot, you talk so much about

(06:45):
the theme of gentrification in that movie and about the
classism of it all, and the theme of like covering
up history and covering up people's cultures and how that is.
I literally sound stupid saying, like the way that I'm
wording this is very stupid, but I'm just trying to say,
you make very very good points, and I really appreciate it,

(07:08):
and I'm glad that you liked that movie because I
thought it was awesome.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
I first off, I appreciate that. Thank you for your
kind remarks. Honestly, again, I'm vibrating, but also just to
I'm just gonna talk real quick about that reboot and
just something that I'm noticing. It's pissing me off. I
am tired of being gas lit into believing that that

(07:31):
that movies are bad. I'm so sick of people just
being like I'm like, where is the fun? People, this
is supposed to like, ye laugh, where's the fun?

Speaker 2 (07:40):
It's a silly, goofy time.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
It does not everything has to be Citizen Kane, you
know what I'm saying, Like, not everything happens.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
There's like no joy in movies anymore.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Something that I had a hard time, especially horror movies.
I agree, And I also just think that's like a
universal truth that everyone acknowledges that horror is like the
queer genre. Like something that's special about horror movies is
that they allow themselves to be a little bit stupid. Yeah,
Like horror does not tend to take itself very seriously.
And people were so up in arms about that remake

(08:12):
and how it like solely the good name of the original,
and I was like, I don't I don't know if
we watched the same original, which then you also point
us out when you cover the original the original, it's like, Oh,
the guy that they killed isn't who they thought they killed.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
It's actually the murderer of.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
The guy that they thought they killed, who murdered the
daughter of the guy they actually almost killed. And you're like,
what the fuck are you talking about? Like the end
of that movie is so convoluted and ridiculous and stupid.
And because it came out thirty years ago, now everyone's
acting like it is the most well written thing ever
and anything that Danes share its name is automatically crap.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
Yeah, And I just think automatically, when you get into
like remake, reboot, requel territory, it does not matter the
quality of the original movie. And honestly, and I'm gonna
sound like a bitch when I say this, it doesn't
matter if certain people are actually fans of the franchise,
they will no matter what.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
YE hold the first.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
Movie as like this untouchable thing, and in a lot
of cases that's just not true.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
I'm sorry, I said it.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
I said it, you said, and it's true. I feel
like I like my entire life. I feel like once
a year, I'm getting in a fight specifically with a
Star Wars dude, bro, which like, that's just that's the
that's the that's the fight that I've chosen to fight.
Like about how the original movies are, you know, pinnacles

(09:40):
of of you know, cinema, And I agree, but they're
also piss poor. And when they were coming out, everyone
hated the Ewoks, and then when the prequels came out,
everyone hated those and now they love them, And now
everyone hates the sequels and I enjoy them. So I'm
stupid like you guys, like no one liked these movies

(10:01):
when they came out in fifteen years, you're gonna you're
gonna put nostalgia glasses on and you're gonna love this shit.
I think that's just that's just the truth with any prequels,
equelqual like you said.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
And here's the thing, It's okay if your opinions change
over time. You know when sometimes you revisit films and
you're like, you know what, this is actually a lot
better than I thought it was. Maybe I wasn't in
a place to appreciate it at the time. But if
your only context is like in comparison to something else
in the same ip, then it's just like you're whatever.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
Sorry, No, I'm trying to not get myself in trouble.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
At the end of the day, here's what I'm gonna say,
and this is my this is my mission for the world,
and thank you for giving me a platform to broadcast it.
We all need to start letting ourselves have a good
time with bad taste.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
That's it. Yes, that's it.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Enjoy that shit, Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Speak on it. I love that. No, I agree, I
love that so much. Thank you. You know what else?
I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Baby. Happy Halloween. It's Halloween.
Halloween is for the gays and welcome. Do you want
to hear a little bit of background information about Oh?

Speaker 1 (11:23):
Yes, First, I would love to hear crib Bevere's history
with Buffy.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
What the hell am I doing? Mary? Sorry? Mary, tell
me about your history with Buffy. Sorry, we're just like
your friend.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
You're shooting with your pal. I get it.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
Worries, Please let us know when did Buffy come into
your life? What's your history with her? What's your history
with the show and all of that.

Speaker 4 (11:56):
Yeah, I I cannot pinpoint like exactly when, why or
how Buffy came into my life. It was roughly probably
eighth grade, ninth grade.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
Well, no, actually it was a bit later than that.

Speaker 4 (12:12):
I was in high school, so somewhere around there, around
like sophomore or whatever.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
And it just became my whole personality.

Speaker 4 (12:24):
Internally, I dared not externally gush over Buffy because I
wasn't out at the time, and of course in the
early odds that would have automatically put a target on
my back of being queer. But I just fell in
love with the world of it all. I fell in
love with the characters. I really loved this idea of

(12:48):
just a strong heroine who was flawed but had like
the purest of intentions and just like a wonderful heart
and the support group that she had, just all of
it really drew me in, especially as a queer person
in the closet, because it really helped me construct my

(13:10):
own moral system and where my valueslied. And I'm not
even kidding when I say every day, if I encountered
a situation that was like a little bit difficult, it
would be like WWBSD, like what would Buffy Y do?

Speaker 2 (13:25):
And absolutely so.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
Yeah, I ended up. I did watch.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
The last season live as it was airing, so yeah, yeah,
which was interesting. But Buffy has always been very important
to me, even if it's not on the forefront of
my mind or any of my conversations, there's still this
deep pocket in the back of my brain, in the
back of my heart where it's like I always feel

(13:51):
that Buffy is there and I will always be happy
to talk about Buffy.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
I love that I felt very similarly growing up. I
really did. Did you end up taking the open Cycle
my Trucks quiz? Yes? I did.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
I did, And I took a screenshot because I want
to give you my top five.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
Yes, I would love to hear We would love to
hear them. And then if you also, like feel like
that's inaccurate, you can let us know, or if there's
characters who weren't on it, we can.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
No, I actually think it's quite okay.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
There's one that I'm not super happy about, and I'm sure, Lena,
you probably know who it is. So I'm going to
give you my top six because number six is somebody
that I love at fifty two percent.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
Cordelia Chase.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
Okay, I love.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
One of my top five of all time. I love Cordelia.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
Number five and er which is fine like Xander's fine,
just not my fave. Rupert Giles number four.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
Oh I'm not.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
Actually I'm not super thrilled with number three either as
a tre acted as I am to him Angel.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
Yes, And then my top two I fully agree with
even the order number two Buffy Summers. We love the Buffy,
and I just wanted Lena knowing me. Who do you
think my number one is?

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Just guess?

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Is it Willow Rosenberg?

Speaker 3 (15:21):
Of course it's Willow Ross.

Speaker 4 (15:23):
Yes, yes, yes, yes, seventy six percent Willow Rosenberg.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
That's I love that.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
That was the exact percentage I got for Willow Rosenberg.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
Really so serious, were the same person. I also both
had Xandrette number five.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
No, I thought we both had Angel at four because
it was like it.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Yeah, I think I thought we were perfectly number three.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
Yeah, I think you were. Buffy, Cordelia Xander were your
top three? My top three were Willow Giles, and I
don't remember who my third was.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
I do think top two being Willow and Buffy. That's
a that's a goaded pair. That's I think, like ideal.
You're the perfect person. Actually yeah, ragging that yeah, bragging No,
and as you should. I think you should shut it
from the rooftops.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
Here's here's my my next plan of action.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Ian.

Speaker 4 (16:22):
We need to figure out how to get harmony on there,
and how to get you in line with harmony.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
Literally, I was thinking about this again today because I'm
always thinking about harmony. Kendall, I just like she's so
iconic to me, and that people don't understand.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
Now, people don't people don't understand it. She needs to
be on open psychometrics. I'm obsessed with Harmony Kendall. There
are just so frankly too many characters that are not
on open psychometrics. It'd be making me mad.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
I know, well, there are full like lead characters that
aren't on open psychometrics. So like Harmony Kendall certainly is
not top priority, but she is to me. I am
obsessed with her.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
Yah, my gosh kidding.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
When I was when I was cooking dinner before this podcast,
I was actively thinking about Harmony Kendall today.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Well, yeah, does the bear shit in the woods? You're
thinking about Harmony?

Speaker 3 (17:19):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
Do you have like a who is like your favorite character?
Cry Baby?

Speaker 3 (17:24):
Oh, Willow Rosenberg?

Speaker 4 (17:26):
And And here's this is this is assuming because I'm sorry,
in my opinion, like Buffy is.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
Just it's assumed, like you can't ship on Buffy. Sorry,
I'm gonna try not to, but.

Speaker 4 (17:39):
Please, Buffy is just untouchable, like the the Blueprint, like
they're always up there. But Willow is hands down my
favor and it's because I relate to Willow. I too,
in high school was very shy and very unsure of
myself and very yearning for people that would not give

(18:02):
me the time of day.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
You know.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
So I relate so much to Willow, and I just
love her so much as a character and her development
and her growth.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
It's just it's so wonderful to see.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
I love that.

Speaker 3 (18:16):
I love that Willow.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Do you have like a favorite season no spoilers.

Speaker 4 (18:20):
It's favorite season no spoilers, So this is difficult. I
do think number three. Will Season three will probably always
be my number one. Yeah, I just I love almost
everything about it. And then I will say recently, season
six is kind of climbing up there for.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Me in weird and interesting ways.

Speaker 4 (18:43):
Yeah, well I'm not going to go into spoiler territory,
but yeah, I've been thinking about it.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
I'm like, you know what, like it used to be
my least favorite and it's climbing up the ranks.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
I feel like I've heard that from a lot of
people in the past, Like, yeah, season six is definitely
obviously no spoilers, but a different tone than other seasons.
So I think it's like a difficult to watch at first,
but then I think I've heard that a lot of
people revisit it and they're like, no, actually this is
resonating with me in a certain way. So I love
to hear that. I love to hear that.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
Wait, have you all covered your favorite seasons or characters
on here?

Speaker 2 (19:17):
Have I missed that? So?

Speaker 1 (19:21):
Yeah, I think we like said them all but gave
zero co text. But I believe both of us are
favorite season and season five?

Speaker 2 (19:31):
Am I correct? So good?

Speaker 3 (19:34):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (19:34):
Yes, yes, love season five my top two. Of course.
I agree with you that. I'm like, it's just kind
of assumed that you're obsessed with Buffy and you love
Buffy and Buffy's the best. My two like personal favorites,
like very special to me characters are Anya in Faith.
I love the two of them so much.

Speaker 4 (19:55):
I could have said them, yeah, you can give any
I just like, don't give any reasons why, but like
a name that's true, know anything from a name. Faith
is like right up there with Willow for me. I
very much love Faith. Yes, yes, I love her.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
I love Faith.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
Thank you for letting me like rewind and tack that
little addition on the.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
Just to say your name feels so good.

Speaker 5 (20:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
I think my other than I genuinely Buffy is my
favorite character. I feel, you know, like like you, I
feel very connected to her and like she's gotten me
so many through so many tough times. But beyond her,
i'd probably say I probably say I'd probably say Spike, and.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
I would say Faith, hey and your boys back this episode.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
Thank God. I don't know. I just like got even
in like high school, I just like, I don't he
does something for me. I really just love him. Even
in this episode he's such a creep and I'm like,
I love him.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
I love him.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
I get of it.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
Someone on the Patreon commented on our schoolhard episode and
they're like, this is my first time watching Buffy, and
the second Spike appeared on screen, I was like, okay, wait,
I'm obsessed with this show.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
Seriously, listen.

Speaker 4 (21:21):
Spike was in fact one of my sexual awakenings for sure.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
Oh my god, very deeply. Unfortunately mine with Xander Harris,
I get it. Like of the men in Buffy, all
of whom like across the board, are very hot, yeah
teenage me. The one that I was like, wait a second,
it specifically was like anytime that they showed Xander shirtless

(21:46):
in this show, I get that. Yeah, alas, I.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
I can't even I can't even. I can't even tell Yeah,
it's the the guy for me is Spike, but I remember,
I won't I can't even tell you. But there's a
moment with with with Faith that I literally I was
a child and I was like, I'm feeling LGBT.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
Oh my gosh, I need you to text me what
that moment was because I'm very curious.

Speaker 2 (22:18):
Okay, I'll text you now, I'll text you both know,
I'll put you in a group chat. Yes, I literally
knew it.

Speaker 4 (22:26):
I knew it girl, Yes, yes, yes, of course, yes,
I mean very coded.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
Yeah, yeah, and I mean honestly, that whole episode, I
literally like I was like, what the hell? What all
of these feelings?

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Like really when we get there. Oh, there's just like
a plethora of content for this podcast. But in the meantime,
we're talking about season two, Season.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
Two, which heaven knows, Heaven knows.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Also fantastic season, wonderful season.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
Okay, do you want to hear some background information about
this episode?

Speaker 3 (23:04):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Alrighty oh, yeah, it's time. So. Halloween is a sixth
episode of the second season of Buffy Vampire s Player.
In the eighteenth episode. Overall, it was written by Joss
Whedon with Carl Ellsworth, which Carl Ellsworth actually goes on
to write a bunch of episodes for Zena Warrior Princess,
which is so funny because they name dropped Zena in

(23:28):
this episode, Yes they do, which how fun is that?
How fun is that? And it was directed by Bruce
Seth Green. No relation. We've got a Seth Green on screen,
We've got a Seth Green off screen. Thank you.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
Zach Green is both acting in and director and his.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
Directode Poland double duty Seth Green this week.

Speaker 3 (23:45):
Oh, good for him, Good for I mean.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
He's doing great work. He's doing great work. It originally
broadcast October twenty seventh, nineteen ninety seven. Some background information
about this episode. Costume director Cynthia Bergst picked Buffy's Halloween
costume as her very favorite episode, her very favorite outfit
from the entire series, which I thought the entire series shoot,

(24:08):
the entire series, which I was like, oh, I feel like,
you know, I bet it's just so fun to like
do any sort of period costuming. And ye in like
a especially this show is like so casual. Obviously they're
wearing like literally mew mew every fucking episode. Like they're
like wearing designer at a high school. So they're having fun.

(24:29):
They're popping off. But I mean to like do some
sort of like hi, drag if you will. I'm sure
she had so much fun.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
And seeing Buffy Kickspike's ass, specifically in an eighteenth century
was really exciting.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
No. I love I seriously watching that. I love that
fly around doing like a fan kick in it. I
was like they knew what they were doing. Oh my god,
it's so amazing. So Angel and Cordelia they're flirting at
the bronze, and it's originally scripted that Angel is not
supposed to enjoy or like have funny. He's supposed to

(25:06):
look kind of bored talking with Cordelia. But Christma Carpenter
was being the most beautiful, amazing person and kept making
him laugh, and they like couldn't They were like, actually,
he just like looks so cute there, and it adds
to what we're trying to say, so like we're gonna
keep him giggling in there, which I thought was kind
of fun.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
That's fair.

Speaker 4 (25:26):
Yeah, me, my Barbie dream Car has better material than that.
I mean, how could he not giggle a smile.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
I can't even get into my feelings about Cordelia chasing
this episode lest I reveal the whole thing, so I'll refrain.
But I mean, I just love that woman. I love
that woman. And then this is just like a funny goof.
But I just like a question. It's not a goof,
it's just a question I have for y'all. So, the
vampire that tax Buffy and Angel in Buffy's house was

(25:56):
never invited in.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
I think about that all the time, right.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
Right, right, So it's like, if this was like a
tiny demon, if this was like one of the kids
at school, if this was one of the children, maybe
they don't abide by the same vampire rules, Like what
do you guys think?

Speaker 1 (26:14):
But the angel took a knife to them, and.

Speaker 2 (26:18):
The angel angel killed a child, wouldn't be happened.

Speaker 4 (26:25):
I That was my way of justifying it was like, Okay,
this must just be like this is a child's not
locked into the rules of real vamporism, despite being fully
vamped out and trying to drink blood and everything else
that comes with being a vampire.

Speaker 3 (26:43):
Yeah, I thought every.

Speaker 4 (26:45):
Single time I watched this episode, I'm reminded of like, wait,
they were invited, didn't they get there?

Speaker 2 (26:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (26:54):
Yeah, it was like, oh hold on, okay, here's my
head canon. Okay, the the vampire in question, uh, the
person wearing this costume was a deviant, a misshift maker
and broke into Buffy's house dressed as a vampire and
then turned into a vampire in the pantry was already

(27:16):
was already hiding.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
Yes, honestly, it would like these boys at Sunday till High.
They are dubous and they probably would like fuck with
her that way. Yeah, honestly, that makes sense to me.
He's also wearing like a really sparkly vest, which I
was like, what kind of vampire are you.

Speaker 1 (27:33):
That is giving vampire costume a sparkly vest? Okay, well, no, no, no,
I'm this is not me. I'm not like claiming to
have any knowledge, but I'm saying, like I would expect
if you were to go to party city and buy
a vampire costume, have like a sparkly vest with Oh.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
Yeah, this is the best of a Killer Bella like.

Speaker 2 (27:51):
Exactly, Oh my god, of course, naturally, naturally, this is
the best of m killer Oh my god, write that down.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
That was funny. Oh my god, thank you.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
Let me know that was very funny. Let me tell
you about some international titles. Obviously a majority of them
are Halloween, Halloween, Halloween, Halloween Night, All Saints Eve, Trick
or Treat question mark from Brazil, and then the German
title This is like, probably the most different is the

(28:28):
Night of Transformation of Fun. Yeah, and those are all
of your slacks for today, your sack fun facts. You're slacks.

Speaker 3 (28:40):
Thank you for the slacks.

Speaker 2 (28:41):
Thank you very much for thanking me.

Speaker 4 (28:43):
I also, I'm just gonna go on record here and
say I love that you go over the alternate titles
of these episodes.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
My favorite so fun. My favorite is Buffy's a bad
guy like that on.

Speaker 1 (28:59):
Buffies.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
Any sort of punctuation in a title very I love
that very much. Eat it up.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
More ammilmation points and more question marks and titles. I
so agree this should have been called Halloween. I got
a recap for Halloween, and you guys, it's way too long.
It's an incredibly long recap. So we're all gonna sit
through it and I'll see on the other.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
Side, we're gonna like it, and you're gonna like it.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
Please, previously on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
It's Halloween.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
The Scoobies are all sent out to chaperone Trigger, treating
Buffy dressed as a noblewoman of the eighteenth century, thinking
Angel will like her more if she were more like
the ladies of his mortal days, Xander as an army
man and Willow as a ghost, despite Buffy's encouragements to
wear something more eye catching. However, these costumes were sold
to them by Ethan Raine, a man who just wants

(29:59):
to watch the world burn and who casts a spell
on Halloween Knight, turning everyone's costumes into reality. Ghost Willow
is forced to take matters into her own hands, as
army Xander and noblewoman Buffy have lost their memories and
have become hyperviolent or totally helpless, respectively. Ghost Willow runs
to Giles for help, but when vampire Spike remember Him

(30:23):
gets word of the Slayer's nerfing, it becomes a race
against time to break the spell before Spike kills his
third slayer. Giles confronts Ethan Rain, a man he has
a mysterious past with, and beats the shit out of
him until Ethan tells him how to break the curse
just in time to restore everyone back to themselves and

(30:45):
allow Buffy to beat the shit out of Spike. All's
well that ends well, as Angel reveals to Buffy that
he never really liked the girls in his era anyway. Willow,
in her newfound confidence, takes off her ghost costume and
is noticed once again by guitarist Oz and Ethan leaves town,
but not before leaving Giles a note reading I'll be
seeing you and that's Halloween.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
Baby. I love that. Yes, honestly, this is uh. There's
a lot going on in this episode, so thank you
for recapping all of that.

Speaker 1 (31:13):
It was incredibly complicated to describe.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
Oh my goodness, Okay, where do we begin? Oh, where
do we begin? Do you like this episode?

Speaker 3 (31:24):
Ye?

Speaker 2 (31:24):
Baby, I do.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
I I'm such a sucker for Halloween themed TV episodes. Obviously,
I love Halloween. There's just something about seeing all of
my favorite narrative characters like surrounded by cheap Halloween decorations. Yes,
it's just like it makes me feel like Halloween is here.
It takes me back to my childhood. So I do

(31:48):
like this episode. I quite enjoy this episode. Actually good,
I'm so glad.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
I'm really glad that you are here to be doing
this episode with us. I also this episode. I watched
it last night and then I watched it again today
because I was well, I like, I just was thrilled
to watch it again. And even after I watched it today,
I was like one more time. Like there's just so
many like fun laughs in this episode. I think this

(32:16):
episode is so silly and like just the idea of
like children turning into demons on Halloween and then Spike
deputizing them to kill Buffy. I love that very much.
Me too, I was having such a blast this episode.
I just think this episode is a very very very fun.
Ian tell me how you felt about this episode.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
I loved this episode. I like when a holiday special
makes the holiday like bakes the holiday into the DNA
of the episode, because sometimes you get a holiday episode
where it's like the Halloween Dances Tonight, but like the
episode actually has nothing to do with Halloween. It's just
like the dance is on Halloween. I like that this episode,

(32:58):
Like No, Buffy kills his vampire are in a pumpkin patch,
Like no, there is a paper spider web on the
wall of the bronze and then the entire main plot
of the episode is about trigger treating and about these
Halloween costumes becoming reality. I love a holiday episode that
cannot take place at any other time besides the holiday.

(33:20):
I think it's so fun. I think they really lean
in and make the most of it. I love this concept.
I love the idea of costumes becoming reality. The exact
same idea was recycled by Fairly Odd Parents a few
years later. If anyone remembers that television special, Timmy makes
a wish that everyone's Halloween costumes were real and scary,

(33:40):
and then he sings the banger song real and scary Yeah,
And it is the exact plot of this episode. Above
the Empire Slayer, but Bubby did the first, Oh, Carl
Ellsworth money, Oh my god, and beyond. This episode just
like being a really exciting, fun, how llween centric idea.

(34:02):
I also it's very it's a very interesting switch to
the status quo where suddenly Buffy is absolutely helpless. And
I love that it is a Willow episode. The Willow
who is like our girl in chair, who is always
the one who is, you know, doing the research, but
when it comes to fighting, she's just going to be
cheering you on. Suddenly it's a situation where no one

(34:25):
knows who they are except for Willow. And in the
same way that we have this storyline of you know,
Buffy's like, Willow, you're a really beautiful girl. You need
to stop like trying to hide away, Willow gains confidence
in being the one who has to manage this entire
situation and save the day herself, and then metaphorically at

(34:45):
the end, takes the ghost costume off and is in
her like beautiful. I don't know what Halloween.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
Costumes supposed to be. It was like rocker chick.

Speaker 1 (34:55):
Sure, sure, is it her beautiful rocker trick costume and
is ready to take Sunnydale by Store's hot Willow.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
Hot Willow, Hot Willow. Yeah, I love that so much
into Oh my god, she's Gorgina, She's ripped.

Speaker 3 (35:11):
I'm sorry her abs not so like spotty.

Speaker 4 (35:15):
But I'm like, damn, I'm like, if I had abs
like that, I would never wear a shirt like No, I.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
Know I would.

Speaker 2 (35:23):
I would make it everyone's problem.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
Absolutely, absolutely, absolutely, Oh my god, I agree.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
I think this is such a lovely Willow episode. And
to see her, I don't know, it's like watching this
episode is like watching a YouTube challenge where like someone
has their hands tied behind their back and someone's blindfolded,
and like one person is like or like a survivor
challenge where like you know something's going on that like
only one person like has the keys to and to watch,

(35:54):
oh my god, to watch Willow like come into her
own and like you know, call the shots and like
make things happen and save the day in that way.
And also to like watch Xander and Buffy not know
who Angel is, Oh my god. And to watch Buffy
like snuggle to Cordelia, and Cordelia is like touching, Please don't.

(36:14):
I'm actually sick of you. I don't know, just like
so much fun stuff in this episode. Should we go
maybe character by character? How do y'all want to break
this episode down?

Speaker 1 (36:25):
I'm cool to do. Yeah, let's do a character but
what Yeah, I can get a character by character?

Speaker 2 (36:31):
Great? I mean they kind of all I go together.
So maybe not the best the best idea, Yeah, I
mean I do.

Speaker 4 (36:37):
I just want to echo how much I enjoy like
the chaos of it all and that role reversal, and
that is a huge reason why I love this episode
because it's Willow forward, and I love watching her poss
Xander around.

Speaker 3 (36:49):
It's so nice.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
Oh my god. I know when she said that's an order,
and I said, ay, I yes, yeah, of course you
got it, you got it.

Speaker 1 (36:59):
I also love Buffy has a line to Willow when
she's trying to encourage her to dress sexy for Halloween,
and she says, Halloween has come as you aren't. It's
the day that you know you can, like you can
be a completely different version of yourself. And I think,
to echo what you said, cray Baby about Halloween, or

(37:20):
maybe it was Lena that said this. It was Lena
that said this that Halloween's the gayest holiday, which I
agree with. I think a big reason that Halloween is
so gay is a lot of Halloween is drag. It's
like putting on a different persona. And then a lot
of times by putting on this different persona, you actually
learned stuff about yourself that you wouldn't have learned otherwise.

(37:42):
And that is what Willow goes through in this episode,
is because everyone is taken out of commission, suddenly Willow
has to put on the persona of the Slayer quote unquote,
but without the superpowers. Although she can walk through walls,
but like Willow, is suddenly thrust into this leadership position
that she has never done before. She has to come
as she's not, and in so doing, in the same

(38:05):
way that like a Halloween costume unlocks the different part
of her personality, it unlocks a different side of herself
that she never realized that she had.

Speaker 3 (38:13):
Yes, I love that very lovely cheers to that echo.
Okay that co sign sealed with a kiss.

Speaker 2 (38:20):
Yes, Oh my gosh. To talk about Buffy for a second.
Angel's been such a dick to her for like literally
so long, like for like what nearly seven episodes straight.
He's been so well, you know what, including season one.
He's been addicted to her for like more than ten episodes.
He's been on my list, And you know, I think

(38:43):
this is such a you know, anyone who has like
an unrequired crush can relate to seeing them and being like,
if I was more something, maybe I would finally like
be worthy of their love. And then to become that
and realize that that takes away like every good thing
of heart or like, you know, it takes away that

(39:04):
you It's just such a fun, fun concept and to
like watch Buffy. She can't fight in this episode because
she doesn't know who she is anymore. And like, also
like the commentary on women from seventeen seventy five not
knowing how like not knowing that they have agency, and
like they just are. They're there to look pretty and

(39:26):
you know, hopefully marrying someone rich, hopefully a bearon. You know,
I just think it's deeply fun. And then to watch
her like revel in being herself and like, honestly, it's
like it's to like to watch her say like it
feels good to be me. It's just so lovely and
trump and like Angel, if he's worth his weight and salt,
he's going to like her for her being her And

(39:49):
I love that. I love that part of the episode.

Speaker 3 (39:51):
Yeah, and I love too.

Speaker 4 (39:56):
What I appreciate about what you said is that the
focus is on Buffy's experience, not whether or not Angel
actually liked her for what she did, because they do
like touch on it when he's like, oh, they're boring anyway,
but we all know, Like the real lesson here isn't like, oh,
Angel likes me for who I am.

Speaker 3 (40:15):
It's like, no, I'm a fucking badass.

Speaker 2 (40:17):
And she likes her for who she is exactly. So
I love that. I love that too, I you know,
and even like at the end learning that Angel didn't
even like girls back then, It's mostly inconsequential. It's like,
you know, because she feels so grateful to be back

(40:37):
and grateful to be her in nineteen ninety seven.

Speaker 4 (40:42):
And I love that, although I do have to point
out just one small thing when they have that conversation
in the bedroom at the end of the night and
he's like, oh yeah, I don't like them, and Buffy's like,
oh yeah.

Speaker 3 (40:54):
Who do you like?

Speaker 4 (40:55):
And as she goes towards him, she's like flashing her neck.
I know, she is like, what kind of girls do
you like?

Speaker 2 (41:03):
Like, I know what you like? You want some of this?
You want killer mom? What do you think? What do
you think? I noticed that too.

Speaker 3 (41:14):
Oh my god, I feel like that too.

Speaker 4 (41:17):
That's her just like getting back at him for being
a dick for ten episodes.

Speaker 3 (41:21):
It's just like, oh, you want this? Mm hmmmm.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
And what she should She should be able to do that,
and so she should yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (41:32):
Talking about Buffy in this episode, beautiful arc, I agree
with everything you said. I love Sarah Michelle Geller, and
I genuinely think she is so talented. The when she
turns into miss noble woman. They like told her, they're like,
you know, this is America back when it was the colonies,
Like people didn't talk like they do now. They clearly

(41:55):
told her to like do an accent, but no one
actually followed through. She has like ten percent of a
British accent every few words, and it is so wow.

Speaker 2 (42:07):
Who are it is no dialect.

Speaker 1 (42:10):
Coach Anthony Stewart had said, sorry, I'm actually too busy.
I can't help you with these lines. She is flying blind.
It's craziness.

Speaker 3 (42:18):
Okay, I didn't want to be the one to say it,
so I'm it's you.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
Who are you?

Speaker 1 (42:26):
At least and at least even a demon at least
like Drew Silla's bad British accent is at least consistent.

Speaker 2 (42:36):
Yeah, she's bad, but it's but it's.

Speaker 1 (42:38):
Like consistently the exact same level. Sarah Michelle. It feels
like every other scene forgot she was supposed to do
an accent, and then the next time they yelled actually
like remember she's kind of British, and she's like, oh fuck, okay,
I'll start doing that again.

Speaker 2 (42:51):
I noticed that too. Yeah, it's okay, poor thing, poor thing.

Speaker 3 (42:57):
Oh my god, I feel like a wait has been
lifted off my shoulders.

Speaker 1 (43:01):
No, this is actually what we're here to do. Is
we're here to say the Buffy storyline is so good
because she learns to love herself and that's the most important,
and also her accent suck. That is what we are
here to do is both of these things.

Speaker 2 (43:15):
And Sara Michelle Geller is never going to hear this.

Speaker 1 (43:19):
I promise she's not streaming this podcast.

Speaker 4 (43:22):
And even if it does stumble across her lap, we
still love you.

Speaker 1 (43:27):
Yeah, she's still incredibly talented. They seem to give her
a dialect coach. Yeah, and that's the board on this show.

Speaker 2 (43:34):
Actually, No, absolutely across the board. And honestly, I have
some tea about later dialogte coaches that I mean, I want.

Speaker 1 (43:41):
Girl, I know exactly who you're talking.

Speaker 2 (43:42):
About, I know, but I mean, like across the board,
God knows, and especially like for it's just such a
short episode. I bet they weren't even they were just
like it doesn't matter, just like be Be be British,
and you know that woman was carrying this show on
her back. Like, I don't fault her for it at all,
but it's not good. It is not good.

Speaker 3 (44:04):
Blame it on the Halloween costume. The maker of the
dress didn't know.

Speaker 2 (44:09):
Yeah, when they were sewing the magic into the dress,
they were like, just so accident.

Speaker 1 (44:15):
Yeah, they ran out of magic thread and they were like,
I have to go to Joe Anne's and get regular thread.
So like it wasn't fully baked.

Speaker 2 (44:22):
There we go man Joanne's. She ran no rip.

Speaker 1 (44:27):
I also am like, I wonder because Army Xander and
Noblewoman Buffy they don't answer to their names at all,
And I am like, I realize there's bigger fish to fry.
I realize that there are like demons in the streets.
I realize you just saw a little boy choke out
an old woman, Like I know that we have more
stuff going on.

Speaker 2 (44:47):
Do you think that little boy killed that woman?

Speaker 1 (44:50):
He canonmically did not. She does go inside.

Speaker 2 (44:52):
Okay, God, I missed it.

Speaker 1 (44:54):
It is I'm so sorry.

Speaker 2 (44:56):
Oh yeah with the other demon right, yeah, sorry, I
just why I'm missing stuff.

Speaker 3 (45:02):
I want.

Speaker 1 (45:03):
One little boy chokes the old woman and then she
runs inside, and then he starts choking out the other
little boy and then that little boy Retell, he's by
choking him, and all Willow does is.

Speaker 2 (45:12):
Go stop, what are you doing? Stop?

Speaker 1 (45:14):
And I am obsessed. It's my favorite part of the
entire episode.

Speaker 4 (45:18):
It's crazy the way she screams, hey is burned into
my brain. Hey, it's just yes, started to interrupting, But you.

Speaker 1 (45:26):
Imagine your baby sitting an eight year old and the
eight year old tries to kill an adult in front
of you, and you just go, hey, hey, stop that,
stop it.

Speaker 2 (45:36):
He didn't kick her, he's choking her. Anyways, not imagine
going through this situation on any level. And we can
get to that later, but oh my god, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (45:47):
I want to know what would happen if Willow just
like questioned them about their lives. I want to know, like,
do they have an entirely false identity? Like is she
not buffy, she's like Lady Ashbury who grew up in
Pennsylvania or is it just like it's a blank slaton

(46:07):
there because she knows all this stuff, like she knows
that she was raised to be a proper woman, she
knows that she hopes to marry a baron. I want
to know how much is actually in her brain? Well,
but then they see But then it's confusing because then
they see pictures of their faces and they're like, that's
a picture of me, But how I know?

Speaker 2 (46:26):
Do you know that?

Speaker 1 (46:27):
How do you know that that's a picture of you?

Speaker 2 (46:28):
Exactly?

Speaker 3 (46:29):
I question that too. I'm like, wait, they recognize themselves.

Speaker 2 (46:32):
But yeah, and like so that was.

Speaker 1 (46:35):
Yeah, that was confusing to me and I And if
I was you know, if I was Cordelia at least,
because Cordelia was very much on like babysitting duty while
Willa was off finding Giles, that was Cordelia, I would
have gone, We're gonna play hot seat, sit in that chair.
I'm gonna ask you a bunch of questions because I
won't know how this magic works.

Speaker 4 (46:54):
Would never No, No, I love trying to get with Angel.

Speaker 2 (46:59):
Of course he thinks they're being annoying.

Speaker 4 (47:01):
Yeah, she walks in and she's like, oh, this happened
to this, This happened to this?

Speaker 2 (47:05):
How are you like?

Speaker 1 (47:07):
I'm literally obsessed with that. Yeah, yeah, Angel walks in.
Angel walks in, tries to say something to Buffy. She's
all confused, and Cordelia runs up and goes, they don't
know who they are. Everyone's turned into a monster. It's
a whole big thing. How are you? She does?

Speaker 5 (47:26):
Also, speaking of Cordelia Chase, she canonically in this episode
doesn't know that Angels a vampire, which is fascinating because
she was fighting vampires with him in Prophecy Girl.

Speaker 2 (47:41):
But was he vamped out? I feel like.

Speaker 1 (47:44):
Every time he fights he gets vamped out.

Speaker 2 (47:47):
Well, so in Prophecy Girl, she's in the library, he
is with he's outside with Sander.

Speaker 1 (47:54):
That's true, Well, he's outside. But then they do they
do the sexy heroes walk with Buffy and she goes, ooh,
look a bad guy. And then do they not break
into the library and start fighting with everyone else?

Speaker 2 (48:06):
No, they go straight to the roof.

Speaker 1 (48:08):
Yeah, well Buffy goes to the roof, do they follow
her because she's.

Speaker 2 (48:11):
Go to So they go to like the corridor with
the stairs and they fight all the vampires who are
trying to get up the stairs. Okay, and then they
go thereafter when the when the Master falls down. Yeah, okay,
post vamp okay, So like, yeah, I love that though,
like she like cannot take Buffy or or Willow seriously,

(48:32):
She's like, you're just fucking with me and you're trying
to get me to like step off of your boyfriend,
and guess what, that's not gonna happen. When Cordelia Chase said, yeah,
you know demonology, but when it comes to dating, I'm
the slayer, I think, I about, Yeah, it's so good,

(48:53):
it's iconic. It's gonna say something durdy, I.

Speaker 1 (48:57):
Know, and I wanted you to say it like face.
She about came everyone.

Speaker 2 (49:03):
No, Yeah, it was the most sensual thing I've ever
seen in my life. If a woman said that to me,
I would die on the spot.

Speaker 3 (49:10):
Yeah it's like what, yeah.

Speaker 2 (49:14):
No exactly. I love that so much. I think Corenelia
in this episode is just so much fun and like
you know, she loves she likes Angel so much that
she genuinely believes that them saying that he's a vampire
is like to get her off of his scent, like
to like stop pursuing him, and she she won't buy it,

(49:36):
And I love that. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (49:37):
I also love how she was like, so, what's his deal?
I never seen him around? And Willa's just like, well,
not at night anyway, and she's like, oh God, don't
tell me that he lives at home with his parents
and he has to wait until Sad gets back with
a car.

Speaker 2 (49:54):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (49:55):
Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (49:57):
There's also at this moment too, where she's talking to
Oz and is like, wow, you're like a big cat,
and she's like, this is just my cost She's like,
I'm not a cat, it's my costume. I love that.

Speaker 1 (50:08):
That's also such a funny OZ line because he's not
like he's not trying to be rude, he's also not
trying to compliment HER's observing just like Cordelia, geez, you're
like a great big cat.

Speaker 3 (50:25):
Just in his very dry, just monotone Oz. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (50:31):
Do you like Oz? Cry baby? I right now?

Speaker 4 (50:37):
I do, Okay, Although I'm not gonna lie there is
I do get a little bit of like cringe inic
every time he's like who's that girl? And I'm like,
go find out, dude, like I coward, like you saw
her what two episodes ago?

Speaker 3 (50:53):
And like you haven't approached her? Come the come on,
come on now.

Speaker 2 (50:57):
I know. It's also like Key's canonic like a hot
guy in town, like he's in a band or at
least wanting him. Yeah, exactly, he's in a band, Like
he could have anyone he wants, Like why doesn't he
just say hello.

Speaker 1 (51:08):
And like famously small town. I do understand Willow Rosenberg
is the shyest of the shy, so she's butting with
a wallpaper normally like in class. Like I understand that.
But also we are supposed to believe that Sunnydale is
not a very big city, so I feel like after
he sees her one time, he would then clock, oh,

(51:30):
in the hallway, that's the girl that was at the concert.
M h yeah, another question about Daniel Osborne. Sorry, I'm
just like these are just the most nitpicky, weird observations
that I have made during this episode. When he's driving,
when he has the who's that girl moment when he
sees Willow cross the street, He's driving a British style

(51:50):
touring bus. He's at the wheel and he's on the
right side of the car. Oh, where's he getting that car?

Speaker 3 (52:00):
I never noticed that. I thought that either it looked
like a Scooby.

Speaker 2 (52:03):
Mobile or whatever it is, the mystery it is giving machine.
But on the other side, I didn't notice that maybe
he's got like a really rich dad who like I
brought this car over on.

Speaker 1 (52:16):
On like a ship OZ really gives rich parents.

Speaker 4 (52:20):
I also feel like he's the kind of person that
would be like, Oh, I'm gonna be I'm gonna be different.

Speaker 2 (52:27):
I'm gonna have a I'm gonna have a backwards car.

Speaker 1 (52:31):
I'm gonna ship. I'm gonna ship a car all the
way over.

Speaker 3 (52:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (52:36):
He like saw it in a magazine once or saw
it in like a rock documentary once and is like, well,
that's my dream car. And for my sixteenth birthday, Daddy,
daddy a British car.

Speaker 1 (52:47):
He's giving me a British So good.

Speaker 3 (52:54):
Daddy, please get me a British demon.

Speaker 2 (52:59):
Noight, and let's talk about the British demon. Okay, let's
talk about Spike. Okay. I I would love to hear
about I feel like everyone feels some type of way
about Spike. I would love to hear how you feel
about Spike. I'll go first. Spike is I can't even describe.
I love this character so much. Him and Drew are freaky, teeky.

(53:23):
I love them. They make me feel some type of way.
I I don't even like what the fuck they're so weird.
I'm obsessed with them. Her saying to her like her
kitten doll, like Edith needs tea, like I don't know.
This girl's a freak. I'm obsessed with her. I'm obsessed
with Spike. There's this moment with Spike where he, like

(53:45):
you know, is in the street and he's got he's
got like this orange soft box like ride at hip height.
So he's like uplit in this gorgeous way in this
dark on this dark street, and I literally swore. I
was like, oh my.

Speaker 1 (54:01):
God, a demon.

Speaker 2 (54:06):
I love him and he's so fun in this episode.
I mean, he does have tons to do, but him
deputizing the tiny demons. Who are you? I loved it.
Oh my god, Craby. How do you feel about Spike
in general, or Spike in this episode or both?

Speaker 4 (54:22):
I love Spike. I think Spike. I was because I
much like you. I watched it three times getting ready
for this, and this most recent watch, I was just
watching and there's this moment that I love because Spike
is like such a badass, Like he is so like
gritty and punk and da da da, but having him

(54:45):
walk down its be like, Wow, this is neat and
I'm like he's also like there's just enough nerd in
there where I'm like, yes, but I think he is
such a wonderful contrast to what we had last season
with a Master. Whether Master is very like archaic and
ritual and dah da da da da.

Speaker 2 (55:05):
And at the start of the season they kind of
start to.

Speaker 4 (55:08):
Set up that type of big bad again and then
Spike comes in and just like completely wrecks everything, total
punk energy, Such a dynamic character in this show.

Speaker 3 (55:19):
I absolutely love him. I'm so happy Spike is here,
so so, so, so happy.

Speaker 2 (55:25):
And I love that Drew and they are so freaky.

Speaker 1 (55:31):
I like the Drew line in this episode and she
walks up to Spike and goes, do you love my insides?
The pots you can't see?

Speaker 2 (55:40):
Incredible eyeballs to entrails, And I was like, am I
gonna cry? I know that's romance. I ain't just no
couples who wish they were them, you know what I mean?
Like no one's doing it like these two, Like they
are freaks and they're so hot, and I just love them.

Speaker 4 (55:54):
It's the classic somebody to match my freak kind of thing.

Speaker 2 (55:57):
You know.

Speaker 4 (55:59):
Exact eyeballs to entrails is something that very quite possibly
might make its way into my vocabulary.

Speaker 2 (56:07):
No, I seriously like I'm lacking that in actually yes, yes, yes.
It's also like it's it's it's so like would you
love me if I was a worm, like and then
him like going full tilt like yeah, yeah, yes, like
I'll eat the dirt that you live in, babe. Like,
I just think they're so weird. I love them.

Speaker 4 (56:33):
Can I comment on like this whole Halloween being like
such a yawner as Buffy.

Speaker 3 (56:39):
Says, Yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (56:41):
Love that idea.

Speaker 3 (56:42):
I love in my world in my head that.

Speaker 4 (56:47):
Halloween is basically like Sinco de Mayo for demons and
they just don't want to touch it. Yeah, my culture
is not your costume. Like there's like there's like some
sex in the city as scene happening in the sewers
with a bunch of demons and they're just like going
off on it, just talking about all the humans up there.

Speaker 2 (57:09):
I love.

Speaker 1 (57:10):
I love that they're having their blood mimosas and being like,
oh my gosh, I just like I find it really offensive.
It's very disrespectful. Yeah, it's deven appropriation.

Speaker 2 (57:19):
Yeah. If I if I go to the surface, like yeah,
I'm gonna it's going to be a problem for everyone.
I might as well just stay home.

Speaker 1 (57:26):
Yeah, past like eighteen ten year olds dressed like me,
each one more offensive than the last, Like I really
don't hate that today.

Speaker 4 (57:33):
Yes, yes, yes, yes, my horns don't go in that direction,
thank you?

Speaker 2 (57:37):
Yes exactly.

Speaker 1 (57:39):
Yes, I love I love that.

Speaker 2 (57:42):
That's seriously like my culture is genuinely not your crost
and like you know, even Spike is like, we are
you talking like we're not going to go out on Halloween.
It's Halloween. Like everyone kind of like is like so
into this, We're not going to go out on Halloween
things like even Chaos Demon Spike. I so I love.

(58:04):
I love that.

Speaker 4 (58:04):
That's such a good thought, especially like answering the question
like going into this episode is like, oh yeah, like
what is the hell mouth like on Halloween? It has
to be absolutely like crazy Town Boots And it's like, no,
it's like the most boring night of all. I think
it's so cool and so fun I.

Speaker 1 (58:22):
Agree, so funny. I agree, it's very very funny. Yah.

Speaker 2 (58:26):
It's also like they can have one night whatever. I'll
let the Slayer sleep. Can we talk about how Spike
is so obsessed with Buffy's ass, Like he's like sending
his cronies to like film her at the Pumpkin Patch
and then watching the video over and over and over.
Oh my god, you're obsessed with her.

Speaker 4 (58:44):
I think it's kind of like, yes, it is her.
Of course it's Buffy. Like who's not obsessed with Buffy. Yeah,
it's also very much to me, it's like a fragile
man who is used to like cause he is. He's
up until this point killed two slayers. So yeah, it's like.

Speaker 2 (59:05):
She's emasculated him.

Speaker 4 (59:07):
So and hell, hath no fury like a like a
fragile man who's been emasculated, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (59:14):
So no, I love that. I think that's such a
good thought, especially like to see like she has bested him,
especially at the end of this episode, like in such
embarrassing ways, like even Joyce Summers. I was gonna say, yeah, literally,
like that's just a woman. That's just a right, like
just she works the nine to five. That's just a woman,
Like yeah, exactly, And like you know, at the end

(59:37):
of this episode, to watch Spike like run away from
her like like a toddler tantrum, like like he like
doesn't even try to fight back. He is just so
convinced that he's finally got her and then to watch
him run like that, like he's so emasculated and no fury.

Speaker 3 (59:55):
I just had a thought too, is like what a
cheap shot?

Speaker 4 (01:00:00):
Like you're like, oh my god, could you imagine if
he's like, oh, yeah, I killed three slayers in my life,
and one of them she wasn't really actually kind of
the slayer, but I still killed her anyway, Like.

Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
Yeah, like does that even count anymore?

Speaker 3 (01:00:14):
You coward?

Speaker 1 (01:00:15):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:00:16):
Yeah, I agree. Like to me, if I was Spike
and I had, like was a seasoned like slayer killer,
I'd be like, oh, no, I know, I want you
at your best.

Speaker 3 (01:00:25):
Exactly, what do you talk?

Speaker 2 (01:00:27):
I feel like that's such a what a coward Spike.

Speaker 4 (01:00:30):
With the how exactly if I'm gonna win this competition,
I want to win competing against.

Speaker 2 (01:00:34):
The best exactly. It's given me the survivor players who
like vote out floaters because they want to stay with
the best. But you know that's what we would want.
But it's just such a cop out move for him
to kick Buffy while she's.

Speaker 3 (01:00:48):
Down with the hell agreed.

Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
Something I like about Spike as a character is that sorry,
not all about the He's not all about this, Like
honor shit that the Order of Aurelius was the Order
of the realis is like yeah, yeah. He's like there's
rules or regulations, and this is how being a vampire works,
and we have been doing this for centuries. And like
the Master does not even see Buffy until Prophecy Girl.

(01:01:15):
He never even looks at her because he's like, it's
this is how it's done. It's done this way, and
you send you little cronies and you wait until the
special night. And Spike is like, I don't fucking care.
I'm the MTV Vampire. I'm going to use modern technology.
I'm gonna send my crony with a video camera that
I didn't bother to charge, and he's gonna videotaper.

Speaker 2 (01:01:36):
I'm gonna watch it.

Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
I think stuff like that. I think stuff like that
is very funny. I think I just like that this
show has such a sense of humor that like the
vampire is filming Buffy and the video camera has no
battery and also it glitches at one point and he
has to like smack it to get it to work again.
Like that's just very funny to me. But I like
that Spike doesn't have this this like.

Speaker 2 (01:02:01):
Ego.

Speaker 1 (01:02:01):
I am like, he doesn't have this false nobility about him.
He's very much like I want. All I want to
do in life is kill people and make out with
my crazy girlfriend, and like, I will do anything that
allows me to do those two things, and this girl
is inhibiting one of them, and so like, by any
means necessary, man, I knock her out so I can

(01:02:24):
kill more people and keep making out with my crazy girlfriend.

Speaker 2 (01:02:26):
I just think he's very fun. I agree it's a cheap.

Speaker 1 (01:02:29):
Shot, but also he doesn't fucking care if it's a
cheap shot. It was a cheap shot to take a child,
throw him in a cage and put it in the sunlight.

Speaker 3 (01:02:36):
Sure, Oh okay, fine, Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (01:02:43):
I love that guy, I really do. He is just
such a fun character on this show. And I just
think he's such a fun I feel like I always
am saying he's a breath of fresh air, and I'll
say it again. He's a breath of fresh air to me.
I just think it's so so fun. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:02:59):
On the survey, I ever comparison of it all, which
creat baby, do you watch.

Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
Survivor you bet?

Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
I don't?

Speaker 2 (01:03:05):
I want to. I want to.

Speaker 4 (01:03:07):
I'm familiar because I watch a lot of things that
are like filled with people who like Survivor, like you know,
dead Meat, Chelsea and James are Survivor fans, and then
drop Out.

Speaker 3 (01:03:16):
They do Survivor stuff all the time too, So.

Speaker 4 (01:03:17):
I'm familiar with Dropout and like generally the ins and outs,
but I just I've never gotten down to it yet yet.

Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
Yeah, did you ever watch The Traders? I feel like
I was very obsessed. I didn't with The Traders.

Speaker 4 (01:03:31):
The Traders is also like I have such a it's
like freaking Lucy and Ethel and that I love Lucy
commercial with the chocolate, not the commercial, the episode with
the chocolate. That's me with my TV shows that I
want to watch.

Speaker 3 (01:03:43):
I just can't keep exactly exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:03:51):
I'll just make this quick, Ben. The Order of Aurelius
is very much giving Joan Eva from season forty eight,
where it's like, oh, you have to do this the right,
a noble way, where a Spike and Drew to me
is giving Black Widow Brigade, where it's like, by any
means necessary, who fucking cares we have to if we
have to lie to Eric about how he should feel
guilty for something he didn't do so that he fully

(01:04:13):
quits the game. That's cool as long as he quits
the game, Like, that's what's you are pulling? And I
think they're iconic.

Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
Did he quit the game?

Speaker 1 (01:04:22):
You should watch it. You should watch season sixteen of Survival.

Speaker 2 (01:04:24):
Okay, it's all in say total.

Speaker 1 (01:04:27):
It is, in fact, like the gayest season of the
whole show.

Speaker 2 (01:04:30):
Yes, it's like to watch six women like pit like
go after one guy and be like, well, what if
you did what we want you to do and not
what you want to do in that? So he did?
I love that?

Speaker 1 (01:04:45):
Do we have more big thoughts on Spike? Do we
want to move to maybe an Ethan Rain Ruper Giles conversation.

Speaker 3 (01:04:50):
I am itching to get to Ethan Rain and Ruper jihs.

Speaker 2 (01:04:53):
Yeah, that's okay, thank god.

Speaker 1 (01:04:55):
I want to say really quickly, we have had I
guess no one got in introduced in Reptile Boy. But
if you take out Reptile Boy, we are three episodes
in a row of introducing like very iconic Buffy characters.
They do, however, as much as I love all of them,
get less iconic every episode, like Schoolhearted, Spike and Drew,
who like incredible pivotal characters. Everyone loves them. Next episode,

(01:05:20):
Jonathan and Oz also incredible characters, just like a little
less iconic than Spike and Drew.

Speaker 2 (01:05:25):
In this episode, we.

Speaker 1 (01:05:26):
Got Ethan Rain and Larry Baby.

Speaker 2 (01:05:29):
Who love them?

Speaker 3 (01:05:31):
Oh Larry, Yes we.

Speaker 2 (01:05:35):
Know, Yes we do. Larry and Lena.

Speaker 1 (01:05:37):
If I were to tell you spoilers about Larry, you
would definitely know Larry. But the more interesting of the
two is Ethan Rain. I just wanted to shout out
that we got introduced to Ethan Rain and Larry in
this episode. Who are both characters that we will see
more of?

Speaker 4 (01:05:50):
Of course, I mean we have the budget this season,
We're going to start building the world.

Speaker 1 (01:05:54):
It's like, yeah, of course, we got renewed.

Speaker 2 (01:05:57):
We got renewed. I think this Ethan Rain plus Giles,
what the hell is going on here?

Speaker 1 (01:06:05):
I've so.

Speaker 2 (01:06:07):
The tension here. It's so hot the hell is going
I know? And also to watch Giles beat the shit
out of him and like clean off his glasses, I
was like, Giles, yeah, just socially, no, Like, what the
hell is his deal? He's so handsome?

Speaker 1 (01:06:27):
This is it's it's the world building backstory reveal of
all backstories which is Giles, Rupert Giles, a man who
in this very episode Buffy makes fun of for not
having any hobbies, and he says, well, I like cross referencing.
He is like the biggest stick in the mud, the
biggest square. He's, you know, such a loser. And then

(01:06:49):
Willow tells him that a man named Ethan has come
to town and given them all these costumes. Willow shows
him where Ethan is and he just goes, Willow, I
need you to leave the room. Willow leaves is so
only becomes very clear that Ethan and him have met before.
Ethan starts calling him Ripper and says, like I thought
you weren't being ripper anymore. And then, like you said, Lena,

(01:07:12):
Giles pretty swiftly kicks Ethan's asses like it beats the
shit out of him, and then wipes his glasses off
like nothing happened. It is like pitch perfect, how to
reveal another layer to a character. Yeah, it makes him
already a very compelling character. It makes him so much
more interesting, so much more compelling to find out that

(01:07:33):
there is this like weird, dark past that we don't
know about, that he clearly had an era in his
life when he was extremely rebellious and was doing stuff
like this and also was very.

Speaker 2 (01:07:44):
Likely fucking Ethan Rain.

Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
I thought that sexual will tend h it was.

Speaker 2 (01:07:50):
There's no way he wasn't. Yeah, those who have explored
each other's bodies so good.

Speaker 1 (01:07:55):
It's such a good scene.

Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
I agree.

Speaker 4 (01:07:59):
And it's so wonderful to see Giles have like a
human foil because we get to see it because he's
an adult in high school, right and yes, so of
course we see his dynamic with like demons and big
bads or whatever. But to have him like have a
foil that is human of his age group and like
see him unleash himself like that, like it's so cool.

Speaker 3 (01:08:22):
It made me really like Giles. I mean, I've always
I've always liked Giles, but seeing that side of Giles, I'm.

Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
Like, damn yes.

Speaker 1 (01:08:30):
And it's that teenage experience of finding out that your
parents have a past. You just like kind of grow
up being like, well, my parents have always been my parents,
and they've always been the people that I know. And
then suddenly his stories accidentally slip out. We're like, wait,
you did shit like that?

Speaker 2 (01:08:46):
I had no idea, like finding out your parents were
like smoking pot in the garage every night. You're like,
what the hell?

Speaker 1 (01:08:51):
I like, no, you know you have a nine to
five job. You're boring.

Speaker 4 (01:08:55):
Yeah, I'll never forget when my mom told me that
she got kicked out of Christian camp smoking.

Speaker 3 (01:09:00):
Pot and stealing her pot. And I'm like, Mom, well, yeah, okay,
let's go.

Speaker 2 (01:09:11):
You've lived a life beyond me. What are you talking about.

Speaker 3 (01:09:15):
You give me an allowance and like drive me to
the movies to hang out with my friends.

Speaker 1 (01:09:20):
Exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:09:21):
It's so crazy. It's also so funny, Like thinking about Giles,
like he is constantly sparring with Buffy, and I assume
that even seeing Giles kick ass this episode, like Buffy's
probably stronger than him, because obviously she's absolutely but I
mean like he's like certainly keeping that from her. He's

(01:09:42):
certainly keeping that he has any fighting sensibilities from her.

Speaker 1 (01:09:45):
And I think it's a big I mean, at least
I see this trope in a lot of media, where
it's like parent with a bit of a rebellious past
is really hard on rebellious child because they don't want
the child to make the same mistakes they did. Yes,
And so I think Giles is very afraid that. While
I agree Buffy's certainly stronger than him, I do think

(01:10:07):
you are correct that like he could like probably put
up more than a fight than he actually does. And
I think part of it is he wants Buffy to
have this view of him being like very strict and
vary by the book, because if she finds out that
he used to, you know, be given an inch and
take a mile, He's scared that she will then use
that to get herself in a lot.

Speaker 3 (01:10:26):
Of trouble exactly well.

Speaker 4 (01:10:28):
And I also just think that he also, I mean,
I think part of it's an ego thing. Is just
like I'm putting up this sort of I don't know
if facade is the right word, but he's projecting himself
to Buffy as like this.

Speaker 2 (01:10:45):
Well educated, like responsible.

Speaker 4 (01:10:50):
Figure, and I think that Buffy perceiving him that way
means a lot to him. I think he wants Buffy
to be able to trust him and look to him
and see a positive example in him. And if she
were to ever see that, I think he would be
super ashamed.

Speaker 1 (01:11:06):
Yeah, you know, yeah, And I.

Speaker 3 (01:11:12):
I love.

Speaker 1 (01:11:14):
You know, He's been a very whitebread character up to
this moment, and I love that there is an underlying
darkness to him, like not only was he, you know,
a teenager once and like was underage drinking, but like
the way that he doesn't even try to negotiate with
Ethan is just like, Okay, I know how to solve
this problem. I'm just going to punch you to the

(01:11:36):
ground and kick you repeatedly until you tell me what
I want to hear. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:11:40):
Oh, it also makes me.

Speaker 4 (01:11:42):
Wonder exciting their dynamic before, because like we get a good,
a good insight of Ethan rain who. I just love
that Ethan's whole thing is worshiping chaos. Like, yeah, if
I were to ever be evil in the Buffy verse,
that was probably what I would do, is I would
chaos because there's just so much like mischief and joy,

(01:12:04):
So I feel like it's a very playful but dangerous
place to be. And it's just it makes me wonder
like if this is the kind of person that Giles
used to hang out with, what did he do and
what was their dynamics like and did they explore.

Speaker 3 (01:12:21):
Each other's bodies?

Speaker 1 (01:12:23):
I like, really earnestly feel like they did. Yeah obviously, yeah, obviously,
we like put queer readings on stuff all the time,
and I think that's great and cool, but I do
kind of feel like in this one it is intentionally
in the text as well. It does give Like Giles

(01:12:44):
I feel like, had strong feelings towards Ethan and then
went further than he normally would have because this man
that he was in love with was like coaxing him
to do these things and then essentially and I think
it speaks to why he's attracted a Jenny Calendar, where
while she's not as chaotic, Jenny Calendar has a bad streak.

Speaker 2 (01:13:06):
In her and operates in a really mischievous place.

Speaker 1 (01:13:11):
Yes, she's very she's not like chaotic evil like, yes,
but she is like very playful. She is very rebellious.
She loves to be mischievous, and I think he finds
that incredibly enticing.

Speaker 3 (01:13:23):
M I like that.

Speaker 2 (01:13:27):
I like that I read a lot.

Speaker 1 (01:13:27):
Actually, I think it's like I think, you know, he
was like in Watcher School. I wonder if Ethan was
also in Watcher School. Here's my head, candondate. They were
like in Watcher School together, and Ethan was kind of
like the bad boy, and I think Rupert was probably
a little bit of a nerd, and Ethan kind of
took him under his ring. Rupert found that very exciting.

(01:13:49):
They had a few years of being more and more
rebellious and of also being more and more flirtatious with
each other, and then it reached a pinnacle of wherever
it was, where it went too far, and then Rupert
was like, I actually need to go all in back
to who I was before. I need to like get
back into the academy. I need to make amends with
my family. I can never speak to you again. I

(01:14:10):
have to like get back in my box.

Speaker 2 (01:14:12):
Basically, m h I hope we see Ethan rain again.

Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
Well, Ethan, sure, Hinton that we will. Honestly, he'll be
seeing us.

Speaker 2 (01:14:22):
That's sexy, kare person? No, definitely, I really honestly, and
even to like this person's whole vibe, it's like, also,
why is this happening? You know, there's like it's truly
just to me, just for chaos, Like there's no like
obviously this is like kind of an offering to this god.

(01:14:43):
But like, what's this accomplishing other than chaos? What's this
accomplishing other than like, you know, kids choking out Grandma's Like,
I don't I'm not sure. We don't really see that much,
but I get the vibe that it's just for just
for Funzies for chaos them for fun.

Speaker 1 (01:15:00):
Yeah, he he just gets a little dopamine rush from
fucking over people.

Speaker 2 (01:15:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:15:06):
I also think he's I feel like Ethan Rain is
also one of those people that enjoys the process of
it because the amount of work that probably went into
setting up that whole shop and like running a small business,
getting the license, dealing with you know, renting out his space,
and all the logistics of that, legal fees, all that stuff,

(01:15:28):
and yeah, making these things.

Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
Do you think I do you think he also did
Buffy's wig? I just I have to ask that right
now because I'm like this, who did this way?

Speaker 2 (01:15:39):
He's a wake maker, He's he's got the pins. Yes, No,
in that way. It was the way and like the
little crown on the side, gorgeous she went up.

Speaker 1 (01:15:50):
He was like, I'm gonna make you an offer that
will be hard to refuse. I will give you that
dress and also made myself front.

Speaker 2 (01:15:57):
Yeah it's no, it's usually and it was. It was beautiful,
gorgeous and like styles so beautifully. Do you think he's
also like making these costumes or do you think he's
just like enchanting their I mean.

Speaker 1 (01:16:11):
The Casper costume that Willow was going to wear was
giving Spirit Halloween. It was even in the like plastic
with the orange label.

Speaker 2 (01:16:20):
But I mean he could have done that too, but
I but you it was just blessing it with chaos.

Speaker 1 (01:16:24):
I think that I think it's a fifty to fifty
because I felt like I felt like the Buffy dress
was so spot on to the picture that she saw
in the diary about Angel that I was kind of like,
did he hear? Because he was also really adamant that
she get that dress, So I was like, is he
doing some investigating and he found that dress specifically for Buffy?

(01:16:46):
But then I also think that on the way he
also went to a Spirit Halloween and was like, give
me everything you have. I'm sure someone in town will
want this.

Speaker 3 (01:16:54):
Here's here's my thought, my theory.

Speaker 4 (01:16:59):
I'm still gonna say that styled the wig because that's
just what I want to believe, of course, But what
if because he makes a comment about like this is
the pure like the purest form of be careful what
you wish for? What if he had some sort of
magic in this shop where people would like want to
be something and they find it there and then they

(01:17:22):
turn into it. So like Buffy wanted so desperately to
be this debutante or whatever, and lo and behold, there's
exactly that dress. Willow is shy and doesn't want to
be seen, Lo and behold. Yeah there's a ghost costume.

Speaker 3 (01:17:35):
Xander already had fatigue, so there's a gun.

Speaker 1 (01:17:37):
Like, yeah, he was like, I just need something to
customer exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:17:44):
It also was like, you know, Xander's feeling really emasculated.
This episode found exactly what he wanted. He wanted to
feel powerful, He wanted to feel like he could take
care of himself and his friends. And he literally like
that fits exactly what you're saying, Like he found exactly
what he wanted.

Speaker 1 (01:18:00):
Yeah, the Xander and his his wrestler toxic masculinity in
this episode. What are our thoughts?

Speaker 2 (01:18:06):
I mean, a tale as old as time with him, Yeah,
not surprised.

Speaker 4 (01:18:09):
I feel like we hear this from him in like
every three episodes, maybe in different different words. Yeah, Yeah,
it's one of those like obviously I just talk like
that just gives me the aice.

Speaker 3 (01:18:21):
I'm not the biggest fan of it. And that's just
what I'm gonna say.

Speaker 2 (01:18:31):
There is something interesting though, that happens where you know,
you know, this all starts because this guy is Larry Larry,
don't forget his name. Everyone loves Larry character. Oh Larry
is like saying gross things about boy and then he's like,

(01:18:53):
that's my girl, Like you can't talk about my friends
like that, and he wants to defend them, which, you know, whatever.
But it's also like Buffy can take care of herself
and she literally does and she gets a die doctor
Pepper for it. That girl is just like be for
real and then when and I mean what what? And
then at the end where Buffy is like why are

(01:19:14):
you taking orders from that girl? Are you like some
somehow like are you feeble? And he's like, well, no,
we have like I take orders for I've learned to
sit the hell down and shut the hell up. Like
how even this, like most hyper masculine version of himself
recognizes that that person has more authority and more knowledge

(01:19:35):
and like can like take a step back and like
maybe like a healed masculine and I mean that I
don't like guns. We could talk whatever whatever whatever this
guy is like, probably not the healed version of masculinity
to look to, but I mean, like a healed masculinity
can take a step back and recognize who's who's the
most knowledgeable in the room, yeah, which is generally a woman.

Speaker 1 (01:19:58):
And he he never uses the gun because Willow tells
him don't use the gun.

Speaker 2 (01:20:04):
He uses the butt of it, but.

Speaker 1 (01:20:06):
He never actually shoots anyone. I once again, I have
more grace for Xander than most and I really like
this plotline personally because of what you said, Lena that
Xander the episode is very against the toxic masculinity. Like
Xander has this fragile ego where because he was trying

(01:20:27):
to stand up for Buffy and yet you know, instead
of Larry beating him up, Buffy rescued him. He's like,
oh my gosh, now I look like a what's in
front of the entire school? Are you kidding me? And
then the lesson he learns, like you said, is you know,
listen to whoever's the most qualified in the room. And
when he's the armic guy, the most qualified as Willow,
and he's going to listen to Willow because she's the

(01:20:47):
most qualified in the room. And then in the end,
Buffy saves the day and he's like just there. So
I don't mind it.

Speaker 2 (01:20:55):
I'd like it.

Speaker 1 (01:20:56):
I'm mostly My favorite Xander moment in this episode is
I actually find it extremely charming when they're all before
they transform and they're all with their little kid groups
getting a trigger treat.

Speaker 2 (01:21:07):
Yeah, and Willow and Buffy are.

Speaker 1 (01:21:09):
Just kind of like holding their hands getting them ready,
and Xander's giving them a whole training on. Like, okay,
so if you want more candy, resort to tears. Usually
tears will make sure you get a second bag. You
can always try the you missed me technique, but that's.

Speaker 2 (01:21:24):
A risky one.

Speaker 1 (01:21:25):
It only works about half the time. Like I love
only go there for.

Speaker 3 (01:21:29):
Child, Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:21:32):
I I liked that part too.

Speaker 1 (01:21:34):
I do, like, I do buy that Xander would be
very good with kids. He's like very goofy and weird.
I think kids would eat him up. I think he
would be very good at this job.

Speaker 2 (01:21:44):
Yeah, I agree, that part was fun. Yeah, and I
think this Xander stuff is definitely like you know, and
even him like beating up Larry at the end, like huh, okay,
I do have that that weird sense of closure. That
I don't know how to name, Like that part was fun,
like he you know, fucking.

Speaker 1 (01:22:01):
Larry, Yeah I do, I am a little I relate
that it is like he did ultimately have to resort
to violence or his like ravra moment as he does
get to beat Larry's ass, but also like Larry jerk sure.

Speaker 2 (01:22:16):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Oh my god, can you imagine? This
whole night just sounds so awful, especially to learn that
Buffy and Xander both remember what it was like to
be their costume. Like obviously, you know they probably have

(01:22:38):
an easier time of it, but for like these children
who were like.

Speaker 1 (01:22:43):
Dressed as I checked out an old lady tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:22:46):
No, like what does that do to a person? What
does that do to a kid? And you know, like
there are also like older kids who are in on
this too, and they all remember it as well. Like
I I was like, oh no, I for these kids,
and like also at the end, like the kids who
like are with Spike or like I want my mommy,

(01:23:06):
I was like, oh god, this night is probably so awful,
and like who's the cleanup crew? Like, because are Buffy
and Xander like gonna go all around the neighborhood and
like collect these children and like did any of these
kids like hurt anyone or hurt themselves? Like this sounds
like probably one of the most complicated, Yeah, you know,
supernatural events in the town's history to my knowledge, Oh

(01:23:29):
my god, Like I was, I was, I was well concerned.

Speaker 5 (01:23:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:23:32):
I also want to know what's going through Principal Snyder's
mind when all this is going down, because he forced
all of these people to go volunteer.

Speaker 2 (01:23:41):
What is he thinking. It's also like is he just
in his in his office like watching a scary movie.
Like he's like so removed, like he's not a part
of the volunteering at all anymore.

Speaker 3 (01:23:55):
He's probably at home watching old episodes of Mash or something.

Speaker 1 (01:23:58):
Like yeah, yeah, can I can't have Halloween without hawt gye.
I It's like literally all I know about Mash. I
know that and the whole like it wasn't a chicken,
it was a baby, Like that's all I really know
about that show. I think I think Snyder did this

(01:24:22):
volunteer chaperone thing because he wanted to show that Sunnydale
High cares and they have responsible students who would take
care of the community. And then the first whiff that
he gets that something went awry, his main concern will
be I have to talk to the chief of police
and have it be a cover up that like covers
too much sugar in the Yeah, someone PCP in the

(01:24:45):
candy exactly exactly which I was thinking, these little kids
remembering because obviously we know that in Sunnydale, when people
have supernatural experiences, they do their best to rationalize them.
And I was wondering, you know, like sometimes it's Halloween
and you have like a really good costume on, and
you do get kind of like a superpower. You become

(01:25:06):
like a different version of yourself, and then the next
day you're like, oh, I'm cringing thinking about like I
was really flirting with people last night, Like, oh my gosh,
I'm cringing to think like how flirty I was last night.
Do you think these kids are, like, wow, I put
that costume on, I'm cringing. I just like started trying
to eat people, Like WHOA.

Speaker 2 (01:25:25):
I wonder.

Speaker 3 (01:25:27):
I wouldn't be surprised, have we?

Speaker 2 (01:25:29):
Is it canon?

Speaker 3 (01:25:31):
I don't know, have you discussed it like that?

Speaker 4 (01:25:34):
There has to be some sort of mystical thing with
sunny Dale that like makes people forget okay.

Speaker 1 (01:25:40):
That they have like the mist from Percy Jackson, or
it makes them view things different.

Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
Yeah, we have talked about it, but it's also like
it's not canon to our knowledge to this point. I
do just think like there must be some sort of
mystical thing here that makes them rationalize everything that happens.
And like are probably people who are more attuned to
what's going on, but for the most part, like regular
Joshmo is going to class like in order to be uh,

(01:26:10):
you know, functioning members of society, I bet they have
to see and I rationalized it and missed.

Speaker 3 (01:26:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:26:16):
I think you see a car one time in your
life and you go a demon. But you see a
car pass every single day and you go, well, that's
just a normal part of life. I think the sunny people,
when mystical shit is happening to you every single day,
you actually don't think twice about it. You're like, oh, well,
this like weird stuff kind of happens everywhere because you
don't know any different because it's so usual, run of

(01:26:37):
the mill.

Speaker 2 (01:26:37):
Yeah, a demon, A demon, A demon?

Speaker 1 (01:26:41):
Who are you?

Speaker 2 (01:26:44):
No, I'm gonna be saying that all of us.

Speaker 1 (01:26:50):
Oh my god, Oh my gosh, who are you? I
love the Buffy plot. I love this arc. There are
a few lines of Diet Look where I'm like, Okay,
we get it, we get we get the moral, like,
you don't have to be this heavy handed. Specifically, she
has that line where she's like, I was brought up

(01:27:12):
a proper lady. I'm not meant to understand things. I'm
meant to be pretty and then someone nice will marry me,
which is all very important, but it's very much just like,
in case you missed the messaging, this is the messaging.
It just felt.

Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
Felt extremely ham fisted to me.

Speaker 4 (01:27:30):
Yeah, because who really from that time would actually say
it like that out loud.

Speaker 2 (01:27:34):
Yeah, you know, like, oh I'm not would just be
their reality.

Speaker 1 (01:27:37):
Yeah yeah, I'm not meant to understand things. No, yeah,
I do think the parent But it felt like I
don't trust the audience that they're picking up on this.
So I'm just gonna spell it out. I'm going to
write it down on a whiteboard and hold it up
to the camera.

Speaker 2 (01:27:58):
I get that same, same, same, who are the moment?
I'm sorry, I'm scrolling through my notes.

Speaker 1 (01:28:04):
The moment when Cordelia walks in with Angel, and Buffy
freaks out seeing Angel, and Cristilia goes, what's your deal?
Take a pill?

Speaker 2 (01:28:16):
A pill? And then she's like literally sobbing on the ground,
and she goes, he's a good vampire, and then she
sends up. She's like, oh, okay, great, it's fine.

Speaker 4 (01:28:27):
I do think this is also partially Cordelia, Like this
is definitely Willow's episode, but I do think that Cordelia
has a very strong showing in this too.

Speaker 1 (01:28:36):
Like absolutely.

Speaker 2 (01:28:40):
And this guy who's in a band who's given her
the run round.

Speaker 4 (01:28:44):
Which okay, devn correct me if I'm wrong, because she's
like at the Bronze with Angel, drinking a cappuccino at
night like a crazy person, and of course she's complaining
about how Devin stood her up. But am I wrong
when I say that the music that's playing at the
Bronze is the voice of the singer that they dub
in for Devin every time he plays with.

Speaker 1 (01:29:08):
Stage.

Speaker 4 (01:29:09):
I find that I can find out because it sounds
exactly like the voice they used for him when they're
on that stage.

Speaker 1 (01:29:16):
Cordelia just like can't be bothered to look at ninety
degrees to the right like, I don't know where he is.
Goodness sakes, if he was here, he would surely approach me.

Speaker 2 (01:29:28):
I'm finding out.

Speaker 3 (01:29:28):
I'm finding out we're doing some hot girl research.

Speaker 1 (01:29:31):
Four Star Mary is dinguing my baby.

Speaker 2 (01:29:34):
It's not because the two bands are Epperle and then
Treble Charger.

Speaker 3 (01:29:39):
Okay, well, then I guess all nineties all rock sounds
the same.

Speaker 2 (01:29:42):
And that's what it is. That's what it sounds the same.
You've cracked it. They're all doing that that same like
creed voice, thank God for Cheeva motto, gosh.

Speaker 3 (01:29:54):
That ship.

Speaker 2 (01:29:55):
I Okay.

Speaker 4 (01:29:56):
When I listen to your episode on when she was bad,
I randomly would hear that. I would hear sugar water
everywhere I went, and I'm like, what the heck, I'm
not even kidding you. I was at work the other
day and I'm just sitting there and making a little
latte and my head shoots up and I'm like, is
this sugar water? And I had to ask like six times,

(01:30:19):
and my coworker was like, yes, this is sugar water.

Speaker 3 (01:30:22):
I'm like, oh my god, Like no, you don't get it.

Speaker 2 (01:30:25):
You're like, actually have full body chills.

Speaker 1 (01:30:28):
Buffy Broke Xander Willow and Angel's hearts to this song.

Speaker 2 (01:30:32):
Yeah, no, literally, yes, I think if I heard that
no no, no, I'm glad you did. If I if
I heard that song in public, I like can't imagine
what I would like, the feelings that I would have.
That song like takes over my whole bot. I love
that song.

Speaker 3 (01:30:50):
Oh and I watched the music video thanks to you, Ian.

Speaker 2 (01:30:53):
It's so fun. It's really so fun. Love that means
like freaked my brain out. It was so fun.

Speaker 3 (01:31:02):
All right.

Speaker 2 (01:31:02):
Well back to this episode.

Speaker 1 (01:31:04):
Yes, of course.

Speaker 2 (01:31:05):
Halloween, Hello, I especially I love so much too. You
know we've said this before, but like Willow coming into
her own this episode and then deciding to show off
her abs, I just think it's so lovely and such that,
you know, you know, like this girl is so smart,

(01:31:26):
she's so capable, she's so beautiful, and like, you know,
sometimes it takes, you know, an event in your life
for you to realize like, oh wait, I have I
have what it takes. I like, and to like watch
her blossom in this this short episode.

Speaker 3 (01:31:42):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (01:31:43):
She's so beautiful and I do love the storytelling device
of she gets the the hot rocker look on is
too embarrassed, puts the ghost costume over, and then when
the ghost costume becomes a reality, she's now a ghost,
but she's a ghost in the hot rocker outfit, and
now because she's not corporeal, she cannot put any other
clothes on. She's just stuck in that out for the

(01:32:05):
rest of the episode. Yeah, it's very fun.

Speaker 4 (01:32:07):
I also love when she visits Giles in the library
and he's like, what are you supposed to be?

Speaker 3 (01:32:12):
And she's like, I'm a ghost. He's like a ghost
of what you look wild? But really, I yes, yes
to all of that, Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

Speaker 4 (01:32:25):
I also think like, yeah, she was basically forced to
walk around in that, so it's just kind of like,
at the end of the night, it's like, well, this
is not the worst thing that has happened.

Speaker 1 (01:32:33):
So yeah, yeah, I love that.

Speaker 2 (01:32:38):
I love that so much. And like, you know, growing up,
like having a body is so tough, and you know,
don't get me started. No, seriously, having a body. I
am so sorry you have to have a body, like,
you know, but like realizing that it's okay. I love that.
I just thought it was so beautiful.

Speaker 3 (01:32:56):
Yeah, agreed, agreed. Our fleshy go carts deserve some love,
you know exactly? Do you guys?

Speaker 2 (01:33:05):
What are you guys gonna be for Halloween?

Speaker 3 (01:33:08):
Mm hmmm.

Speaker 4 (01:33:09):
So the thing is, Halloween is like a busy season
for me. I have a bunch of gigs like the
week leading up to it because I'm a spooky girl.
So by the time I get to Halloween proper, I
just want to be on my couch with like a pizza,
in a horror movie in my pajamas, just like hanging
out with some friends. Like I don't want to be out.

(01:33:31):
I'm I'm Halloween out, like I love the day. Yeah,
but like for me, that's my day of like self.

Speaker 3 (01:33:38):
You know.

Speaker 1 (01:33:38):
I love that you're like the demons on the hell
Mouth exactly exactly.

Speaker 3 (01:33:42):
My culture is not your costume.

Speaker 1 (01:33:46):
Yes, I love that.

Speaker 2 (01:33:48):
I think that's nice.

Speaker 3 (01:33:49):
I feel.

Speaker 2 (01:33:52):
Like that's probably one of my I like to dance
and like go out go out dancing, But like my
favorite thing to do on Halloween is to eat a
pizza and watch scary movies. Like there nothing beats that.
I think that's perfect. Do you have like a favorite
horror movie you've seen recently, like in the last year,
like a new one?

Speaker 4 (01:34:12):
Do you really want me to go on this tangent
because I my my personality for the past month has
been all about The Ugly Stepsister.

Speaker 3 (01:34:21):
I am obsessed with that movie.

Speaker 2 (01:34:22):
Oh my gosh, I haven't seen it.

Speaker 3 (01:34:24):
You okay.

Speaker 4 (01:34:25):
My goal this year even is to It's a Norwegian film.
It is a dark comedic retelling of Cinderella from the
Ugly Stepsister's perspective. A lot of people compare it to
the Substance. I can understand why, but they are two
completely different movies totally. It is a beautiful movie. When

(01:34:46):
I say it is one of my favorite movies of
all time, I am not lying. Oh I love it's
if you can, because I know not everybody is down
with a foreign horn, a foreign movie with subtitles. If
that's some thing that's your speed, I definitely recommend it.
If you want my shutter password, I will gladly lend
it to you because it is I will say it's

(01:35:12):
it can be quite brutal in a very direct matter
of fact. This is how the world is kind of way,
and it does. It is kind of on the side
of body horror, right, but it kind of like it's
kind of you know, like if you have some lobsters

(01:35:33):
in a pot and it slowly starts to heat up
and they don't realize that the water is heating up
around them. That's kind of what happens with this movie.
And like the brutality of the Body Horror. It is
just like one minute you're like here and you're like, oh,
this is fine, and the next minute you're there and
you're like, wow, that was crazy. So Yes, The Ugly

(01:35:53):
Stepsister highly highly highly ten out of ten recommend Yes,
amazing everything.

Speaker 2 (01:36:00):
I love that. Thank you so much for that wreck.
I trust your judgment.

Speaker 4 (01:36:03):
Implicitly, I'm curious to know your two favorite movies scary
of course, A favorite.

Speaker 1 (01:36:10):
Scary movies of the last year. Yeah, I mean if
the horror if if if we're going thirteen months, uh,
the substance. I feel like I saw a horror movie
recently that I had a really great time in. I
liked Weapons a lot. I had a good time.

Speaker 3 (01:36:28):
Weapons was so much fun. Yeah, I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:36:30):
I thought about Weapons today and cried, hey, what was it?
Specific mean spoilers for Weapons, but just, you know, ear Muff,
thank you, the you know, just I think I've been
thinking so much of it, as like an allegory for
like you know, yes, yes, school shootings specifically, and also

(01:36:51):
you know, you know, like child abuse and you know,
to watch that little boy be told and in general,
like I saw a TikTok that was like the thing
that was the magic was like self harm and the
only way he could have stopped it was to do
it to himself and like carry on the cycle of abuse.

(01:37:13):
And just to watch that little boy, I literally could
cry about it right now, like it suffer in silence
and feed his entire class soup. It devastated me in
a way that it was so severe. I just I've
loved the I loved Weapons so much, so good. I think,
like my favorite horror movie of all time, though I

(01:37:35):
love the original text with Chainsaw mass Yes, I love
that movie so much. I've seen it so many times.
I think it is such a it's like seventy minutes.
It's so fast, it's so crazy. It is so like
I if I ever got like a like a photo
realistic tattoo. Ever, if I ever decided that that's like

(01:37:56):
the vibe of tattoo I want to get, I would
want to get what's her face on the car at
the end, Like like her laughing like spoilers for Checka
stains on.

Speaker 3 (01:38:06):
Mass spoilers for this seventy year old movie.

Speaker 2 (01:38:11):
So yeah, but the way it ends like it's so
I mean, I just love that movie so much and
it makes you know, I think it's just such fun.
And then I also think Jennifer's body is also another fave.
Another fave of mine.

Speaker 3 (01:38:29):
Excellent choices.

Speaker 1 (01:38:36):
Halloween episode. Any big thoughts, any anything we didn't discuss
that you want to discuss.

Speaker 4 (01:38:44):
I think for me, we hit all my big spots again.
I just to put a little bow on it. I
love a Halloween Buffy episode. I just love that they
went there. I think it's a really fun treat for
the audience. And I'm very pleased with this episode. It's
definitely up there for me in the whole series, Like
I think, especially as like an early episode, I think

(01:39:07):
it sets a lot of precedent for a lot of
other things in this.

Speaker 3 (01:39:10):
In the series.

Speaker 2 (01:39:12):
I so agree, I so agree. I think this episode
is also just like heaps of fun like it like
is like triumphant, It's silly. It like it, especially to
end it with you know, Willow stepping into her own
power and also Buffy coming back to herself and stepping

(01:39:32):
into her power like that, and also like Xander as well,
realizing that like it's okay that he doesn't have that
power like that. You know, it's like he who fills
a role here and it's gonna take him a while
to realize that it's okay. But you know, I think
they all like go on like a fun a fun

(01:39:54):
journey here. I just I think this episode is lovely
and so fun.

Speaker 1 (01:39:58):
It is interesting think about Xander, who like is constantly
emasculated because you know, men should be the ones in charge.
The identity he overtakes as a foot soldier, like the
identity he takes, it's like, you actually need to follow orders.
And I agree, like that is his role in this
group is like you actually just need to shut up
and follow orders. That is not going to have the

(01:40:20):
best plan and you will never be the strong one.
You just need to do what you're told to do.
I think Halloween as a holiday is fun. You know,
so many other holidays also have aspects of fun, but
have these other you know, whether that theme be like

(01:40:42):
family or like sadness or whatever it is, All these
other holidays have these like big emotions tied to them,
and I feel like Halloween is first and foremost just
have a good time and have fun. And I love
when a Halloween.

Speaker 2 (01:40:56):
Special does that.

Speaker 1 (01:40:58):
I love that this episode is just like the number
one thing it's trying to do is be fun, and
it's like, what is the craziest, most entertaining thing we
could do this week? I think it's very successful.

Speaker 2 (01:41:09):
Have a great time.

Speaker 3 (01:41:10):
Yeah, shout out much whimsy.

Speaker 1 (01:41:13):
Good job, much whimsy whimsy. Exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:41:17):
All right, let's put about on this. Let me tell you,
we like to keep track of our kill count, and
we only lost two beings this episode officially Halloween, I know,
and thank goodness, and I'll tell you who they are.
Thank you. So an unknown vampire and Buffy steaked them
in Pop's pumpkin cat pumpkin patch. That was the name

(01:41:40):
of the pumpkin patch. So rest in peace to that
unknown vampire. And then and we were going to count it.
Willa Rosenberg, You're not wrong.

Speaker 1 (01:41:51):
She does you think Buffy is the only girl who's
come back to life.

Speaker 2 (01:41:57):
She said, I can't breathe she died.

Speaker 1 (01:41:59):
True, was not like Buffy. I really get what you
went through.

Speaker 2 (01:42:02):
It was scary it was scary. I bet it was so. Yeah,
those are our two.

Speaker 1 (01:42:06):
Deaths, that funny, two reincarnated divas on this TV show.

Speaker 3 (01:42:14):
I bet that their friendship is stronger than ever.

Speaker 2 (01:42:17):
No, I wonder if they talked about it.

Speaker 3 (01:42:20):
I hope so.

Speaker 2 (01:42:21):
I hope they did. I hope they did.

Speaker 1 (01:42:23):
How lucky for Willow that there was so much chaos
on the streets because her corpse was just on someone's
and on a calmer night, they would have been like, hello, Morgue,
come get this body off my.

Speaker 2 (01:42:38):
P I know it was that old lady. She's like,
I've just been choked. Absolutely not.

Speaker 1 (01:42:46):
I'm watching mask.

Speaker 2 (01:42:47):
We'll take care of it in the morning. I love goodness.

Speaker 4 (01:42:52):
That's a very good point. Could you imagine just like
waking up, just like being pumped with meldehyde. I mean,
I don't think it would have gotten that far that fast, But.

Speaker 2 (01:43:00):
I don't know how they were, like, we had to
put this body in.

Speaker 1 (01:43:02):
The ground tonight now.

Speaker 2 (01:43:04):
No, I'm telling you, actually, my nightmare, like I feel like,
you know, especially that unlocks like a childhood nightmare of
mine where it's like, you know, I don't want to
be cremated because what if I wake up, or I
don't want to be like embalmed, because what if I
wake up y'all don't have that. Y'all don't have that,
you don't have that.

Speaker 3 (01:43:20):
Well, now, I don't want to wake up in a
grave because what if I don't have that up Listen.

Speaker 2 (01:43:27):
I feel like it's like what if I wasn't actually dead.

Speaker 3 (01:43:29):
Of the three, I.

Speaker 4 (01:43:29):
Feel like cremation is probably the easiest one to deal
with that whole scenario because you'll be gone soon anyway, yeah,
versus having to like.

Speaker 2 (01:43:39):
Lie like yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:43:41):
It's not like a coffin where it's like, Okay, I
guess I'll suffocate. No, I agree, you know the whole
save by the bell where that expression comes from, right, oh,
because they have the Yes, you're going to say, I believe,
I believe this could be false. I'm going to say
it was during the plague, but that might be. But
there was just a time when they were bearing people

(01:44:03):
very quickly after they died, which is why I think
it was the plaque, and so they had a lot
of issues of like bearing people who were still alive,
and they realize it, so they used to bury people
with a bell tied to their arm. The bell was
above ground and there was like a little twine that
attached to their arm, so that the you know, grave
digger dude in the graveyard, he'd hear a bell ringing
and he'd be like, I better dig up that body.

(01:44:24):
That person still, they'd be saved by the bell. With
Willow Rosenberg, that happened to her in this episode about
me the Vampire Slayer.

Speaker 3 (01:44:34):
The vampire Slayer was saved by the bell. Wow, how
many other nineties.

Speaker 1 (01:44:40):
Zach Morris was on this episode. Hey, this is investigative
journalist Ian from the future here. I just wanted to
come on and say that that's a lie. That's not
where the expression saved by the bell comes from. Saved
by the bell comes from boxing, where in boxing, if
you get knocked down and the referee counts to ten,
you're out. But if the bell rings before he gets

(01:45:01):
to ten, thus ending the round, you are saved by
the bell and get to go onto the next round. However,
the story I told about people being buried in safety
coffins that had bells attached so they could ring it
if they're buried alive is true. It's just not where
that phrase comes from.

Speaker 2 (01:45:17):
Anyways, back to the show. I think it's time for
a special segment. What time of the episode is it?

Speaker 3 (01:45:26):
Oh, is this where I have to sing?

Speaker 2 (01:45:28):
Yeah? Okay, yeah, but you sing as a song.

Speaker 3 (01:45:31):
The gayest part Yeah, okay, okay, this.

Speaker 1 (01:45:34):
Little jingle, okay, it literally can just be a gayest
part jingle.

Speaker 3 (01:45:38):
The gayest part jingle.

Speaker 1 (01:45:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:45:41):
You want to know the gayest part of the show,
it's when Ethan rhent Rain came and oh my god,
I was about to go triple X with that one.
The gayest part of the show is when Giles beat
up that silly little hoe and then they wanted a kiss,
but he then ran away, and hey, surprise, Giles is gay.

Speaker 2 (01:46:07):
Wow, you've got an Improgre's mind on you. That was
beautiful and also I agree, yeah, especially the part where
he's cleaning off his glasses. I was like, oh, the
guys have done this before.

Speaker 3 (01:46:23):
Oh my god, I envy it.

Speaker 1 (01:46:26):
Sorry, no, no, no, don't be no.

Speaker 3 (01:46:29):
I loved it.

Speaker 1 (01:46:29):
Ethan's like kind of laughing as Giles kicks him.

Speaker 3 (01:46:34):
Uh no, he's no, he is six him at night. Yeah,
Ethan is happy.

Speaker 2 (01:46:42):
No, No, I agree, I agree, I agree. I it
was so funny too. I was watching this episode, and
I was like, there's so many like fun moments that
you could interpret this queer, but this one is just
like on the page, they they are kissing, they are
they are exploring each other's bodies, and this is like,

(01:47:03):
you know, it's something that they have they have talked
about and done before in the past.

Speaker 3 (01:47:08):
I was going to say this was one of their
fun plays. Yeah, no, absolutely definitely.

Speaker 2 (01:47:14):
It's it's pre neegosted, like they're fine, Yeah, exactly, don't.

Speaker 3 (01:47:19):
Don't worry, enthusiastic.

Speaker 2 (01:47:22):
Like don't worry, no, I yeah. And like also the way,
oh my god, the way he's like, you know, obviously
Giles is like incredibly strong and like you know, beating
him up, but it's also like the power he has
over this man, like you know, it didn't take long
for him to give up the goods, you know, in

(01:47:45):
terms of like the information.

Speaker 3 (01:47:46):
Infatuated with him too, the way he says.

Speaker 2 (01:47:49):
Eaving him that little note.

Speaker 1 (01:47:51):
I know, I am a little bit like, did Ethan
come here specifically because he knew that Giles was here?

Speaker 2 (01:47:58):
Yes, Oh my god, I'm sure it was like let.

Speaker 1 (01:48:00):
Me bust out the big Yanni's head so I can
get my boyfriend back in my shop.

Speaker 2 (01:48:03):
No, exactly.

Speaker 4 (01:48:05):
Do you think that he was like hoping that Giles
may have been dressed up as a ripper for Halloween
so that way they can have one more fun night.

Speaker 1 (01:48:14):
Kind of got what he was like, you got that
Dominatrix outfit? I alsope you put that on?

Speaker 2 (01:48:20):
What does the ripper outfit look like?

Speaker 3 (01:48:23):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:48:23):
Leather galore? Period.

Speaker 1 (01:48:26):
I can't, I truly cannot say what I want to
say right now.

Speaker 2 (01:48:30):
I wish you why not.

Speaker 1 (01:48:31):
Because it's a spoiler. I'll text it to you.

Speaker 3 (01:48:33):
Oh I know what it is.

Speaker 2 (01:48:35):
I thought you were it was going to be. Yeah, no,
and that's what I wanted to say. Yeah, of course,
of course, of course, yeah, I want to say something
just like explicit. I was like, I wish you would.
Of course it's also chop, Oh my god, Okay, now.

Speaker 1 (01:49:00):
Hey my guest part is also that I just assume,
but I also put a gentleman's tip of the hat
to Halloween as a concept.

Speaker 2 (01:49:10):
No, very much that and also like you know, dressed
and sexy and like, you know, having fun on Halloween.

Speaker 1 (01:49:17):
It's incredibly queer to be like, oh, what's the thing
you've like always wanted to try on, try that on
for tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:49:24):
That's true, it's very uh yeah, there's a little bit
of a transnarrative in there, I think.

Speaker 2 (01:49:30):
Yeah, I love that too. The worst part. All right, now,
let's hear are our best person, our worst parts, our
worst person, our best parts. Ian Please tell me your
worst part of Halloween.

Speaker 1 (01:49:48):
My worst part is the clunky Buffy dialogue with the like,
I'm supposed to be pretty. I'm not supposed to know things.
I'm just supposed to get married, like we get it.
And then also this is it that I actual you
don't like this? I do like because it's so bad
that it then becomes funny, which is cool.

Speaker 2 (01:50:10):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (01:50:11):
So that's actually that's the worst part in parentheses, because
it makes the episode more enjoyable for me.

Speaker 2 (01:50:18):
O my god, fairy baby, what's your worst part of
this episode?

Speaker 4 (01:50:22):
Well, I was, okay, I'm probably gonna if I'm just
gonna be frivolous with it. It's honestly, drinking a cappuccino
at night, surrounded by school on the school night, like
I'm maybe I'm old. I cannot and shall not have
caffeine afternoon past twelve pm. Lest I land with an

(01:50:46):
anxiety attack at like three o'clock in the morning.

Speaker 3 (01:50:48):
So no, that's insane behavior.

Speaker 4 (01:50:51):
That's insane behavior, and I don't support, I do not
support having that on TV for children to see.

Speaker 2 (01:50:57):
I agree, it's bag it is. I can't even have
a caffeinated kolat like in the evening, I like, will
be up all night buzzing, buzzin.

Speaker 1 (01:51:07):
I know.

Speaker 2 (01:51:08):
I A big, a big thought we've had for so
long is a question we've asked, is is the bronze?
What is the bronze? And the bronze is part coffee shop,
park club, part rec center, part everything, And this episode
is like full tilt coffee shop.

Speaker 4 (01:51:26):
The bronze belongs in Brooklyn, like let's be the bronze
is go to any coffee shop slash a bar, slash
a bookstore, slash events space.

Speaker 3 (01:51:37):
That's exactly Verry that.

Speaker 2 (01:51:39):
No, I get that, I get that. What's my worst
part beyond those two mm it's that, But in parentheses,
I actually love it, Like you know, I just think
that her accent and in general, I think the accents

(01:52:00):
in the show are pretty all over the place. And
if they would have known how many eyes were going
to be on this show. I think they would have
made a different choice, but I still love it. Demon
Demon I love, I love Okay, Ian, what is your
best part of this episode?

Speaker 1 (01:52:19):
I like how Halloween it is. I like that Halloween
is injected into this episode's DNA.

Speaker 4 (01:52:26):
I love cry baby yours yes, easy. The best part
of this episode is hot Willow Rosenberg.

Speaker 2 (01:52:33):
Baby, if we.

Speaker 3 (01:52:37):
When we if we were to do like a word.

Speaker 4 (01:52:39):
Association with this episode, if you said Buffy Season two
Halloween episode, I would say hot Willow Rosenberg straight up.

Speaker 3 (01:52:48):
It's the first thing I think about. Yeah, I love that.
I mean, she's always hot, but you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:52:55):
Yeah, no exactly, but like stepped in, like stepping into
like a new hot, saucy, very saucy.

Speaker 3 (01:53:03):
I love that. I love that.

Speaker 2 (01:53:06):
I think my best part of this episode is, oh
my god, literally all of it. I think this episode
is such fun. But maybe when Cordelia goes, you might
know about demonology, but when it comes to dating, I'm
the slayer And like that is exactly what Buffy doesn't
want to hear, because that is the part of her
life where she feels like she's genuinely lacking. Is her relationships,

(01:53:28):
especially to the people she's dating, and like how she
can't and she feels so like Angel has been making
her feel like shit for so long, like she she's
internalizing that. She's like, what's wrong with me? And then
to see Cordelia just be herself and make Angel laugh
like a thing, like has Buffy been able to do
that at all? Like like probably not, you know, like

(01:53:51):
or maybe but even still like she's probably not remembering
because he has been such a dick to her recently.
So that is the exact thing that is gonna her, Buffy.
And also the way she says it is so hot
at Christmas Carpenter. You are literally the hottest woman alive.
I would do anything for you. Please call me, step
on my neck please period. Well that's Halloween. Oh my god,

(01:54:19):
cry Baby, thank you so much for you so much
for you. Yes, yeah, anytime, anytime. It was so nice
to have you. Oh my god. Yes, you can find me.

Speaker 3 (01:54:29):
I'm mostly active on Instagram.

Speaker 4 (01:54:32):
You can follow me cry Baby at Crying without the
G Underscore in Underscore Public and then support my podcast
horror Icon spelled w h O r r o r
icon pod on Instagram.

Speaker 2 (01:54:47):
And that's that yay, and uh, to leave us off,
what do you what movie would you have the Scoobies
watch for Halloween this year? Like it doesn't have to
be like ninety seven specific, but you know, like if
you were to like give them your Shartter password and say, like,
go watch this movie, what would you tell Willow, Xander

(01:55:08):
and Buffy to go watch. Oh, that's a really good question.

Speaker 4 (01:55:11):
The first thing that came to my mind, and I
think it's just because you said Scoobies was Scooby Doo
Zombie Island where Scooby and the Gang.

Speaker 3 (01:55:22):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 4 (01:55:23):
It's like to find the parallels between this in your life.
There's Confederate soldiers though, to ignore that part. And then
if I were to do a backup, Oh my god,
I know exactly. I would have them watch the movie
Buffy the Vampires later. Oh my god, absolutely love that.

Speaker 1 (01:55:44):
So you're gonna learn a lot about yourself watching this
exactly exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:55:48):
Oh my god, do you think they would enjoy it?
I love that so much.

Speaker 4 (01:55:53):
I think honestly, I think it would because I think
it would be very similar to other there's scenes of
them like watching movies together that are just like absolutely
nonsensical and they seem to.

Speaker 2 (01:56:03):
Be having a great time, so yeah, right, I think
they would enjoy how silly it was, and like the
vampire going like Xander probably would be is iconic. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:56:15):
Absolutely, Okay, it's time for emails, so sit down, shut up,
and listen.

Speaker 3 (01:56:29):
Up.

Speaker 1 (01:56:32):
Really happy to have you here.

Speaker 2 (01:56:33):
Oh me too. I love the email segment. I think
these are fun every week. Let's kick things off, shall
we with Meredith.

Speaker 1 (01:56:40):
Hello, Lena and Ian. I just want to thank you
too for introducing the term psycho pervert to my vocabulary
in the Some Assembly Required episode. Something about it just
hits the exact right chord sometimes, like yeah, that's exactly
the right way to describe the kid who was singing
my girl. The term has followed me as I've continued
watching Buffy. This speaking my first time ever. You better

(01:57:01):
believe I was mentally screaming it at every one of
those despicable frat boys all throughout. Reptile Boy, you two
have added so much to my life with this simple
phrase on the topic of spikes accent. It also didn't
cross my mind that he might not be British. I'm
typically really good at clocking fake accents. But in my
head James Marshas was a British Man doing an exaggerated

(01:57:23):
stylized character voice something like with Mick Jagger. He's British,
but he also kind of doesn't sound like anyone else
on the planet. Obviously I was wrong, But shout out
to James Marster's big fan of the pod much love, Meredith.
She her, You're so right about Mick.

Speaker 2 (01:57:41):
Jagger, right anyone else on the planet.

Speaker 1 (01:57:47):
Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (01:57:48):
Yeah, he doesn't sound like anyone else on the Punny.
He has moved like anyone else in the Punny. He
doesn't look like anyone else on the pont because he's
an alien.

Speaker 1 (01:57:55):
He's from outer space. Loving mc jagger, my dad, that's so.

Speaker 2 (01:57:59):
Funny, And honestly, I'm glad that you like our turn
of phrase. That makes me happy.

Speaker 1 (01:58:05):
It is like a treasure of my life if things
from this podcast end up in people's vernacular or just
like I just like I want seeds of this podcast
to live on I scene, I.

Speaker 2 (01:58:21):
No, I agree, I mean I was. I feel like
I had a conversation once when I went to gays Camp.
We were all like sitting around the table like like
playing that game where you like pick a question out
of a box and it like it's like, what's something
that a stranger did for you that really affected your life?
And I feel like so much of me and my

(01:58:42):
friends is like silly, random things that like random people
have said around us, and like podcasts that I've listened to,
in movies that I've seen, and I'm like just a
culmination of all of those things. So it only makes
sense to me to pass that shit on. And I
love that, Like that makes me so happy that we
would like share that in that way.

Speaker 1 (01:59:02):
I agree.

Speaker 2 (01:59:03):
It is like one of my favorite things.

Speaker 1 (01:59:05):
Literally, the episode we just recorded, which check watch this
space in two weeks, you were talking about the writing
of a scene and you described it as mcclunky.

Speaker 3 (01:59:15):
Because you too.

Speaker 1 (01:59:16):
Literally, I don't even remember why we were talking about
Star Wars on the podcast that we started referring to
clunky dialogue.

Speaker 3 (01:59:27):
As MC clunky.

Speaker 1 (01:59:28):
Yeah, Like I could not tell you what episodically we
were talking about, like why the George Lucas Yeah re
releases even came up? But here we are years later
still using it.

Speaker 2 (01:59:41):
Damn, girl, I can't remember that at all, But I
love to call something that's clunky mcclunky. Damn, and I
do it in real life to mcclunky, all this to say,
that makes me very happy that especially psychopervert Like, oh
my god, everyone try and say it. It feels so
good to say, like call your friend a psycho Perpert.

Speaker 1 (02:00:04):
I hope you carry Psycho Perpert in your heart. I
hope it bringing the joy that thrilled me to read.

Speaker 2 (02:00:12):
Thank you for your message. Okay, next, let's hear from Claire.
Where's Claire? Do you get that a lot? What is
that flea bag?

Speaker 1 (02:00:23):
Oh girl, I have seen flea bag. Okay, of course Claire.
The subject Linder. This email is Buffy and Angel needs
a DTR. Do you lean any in. It's been a
long time since I've watched season two in order, so
I don't really recall the true order of Angel's relationship drama,
But so far I'm finding it confusing.

Speaker 2 (02:00:43):
They've made out.

Speaker 1 (02:00:44):
Multiple times, he's saved her life, she has his telephone
number and his address, but has never been to his place,
and they haven't been on a date. It feels to
me like they've progressed pretty far in the relationship for
getting coffee to be a big deal. Do they ever
even call each other boyfriend girlfriend. In my mind, Angel

(02:01:05):
is Buffy's boyfriend, but saying that Buffy is Angel's girlfriend
scenems kind of weird, Like can you imagine him introducing
her to someone and saying, this is my girlfriend Buffy.
Maybe it's the age gap thing. Also, I just do
not see the appeal of Angel David briannaz and I
never have. I was watching the wind You Kiss Me,
I Want to Die scene and Buffy looks so cute,

(02:01:26):
and then I cut to Angel and I was like, Oh,
of the five or so recurring male characters who've gotten
so far, he's definitely the bottom of my list in
terms of attractiveness for me. Well, maybe he's slightly about
Princess Snyder. There's just something about him that I've always
found off putting. On a side note, how big is Sunnydale?
I didn't realize until rewatching Reptile Boy that they don't

(02:01:48):
go to Sunnydale you. So that means it has at
least two separate colleges in addition to the Zoo, Museum, Mall, Airport,
Beach Docs, twelve cemeteries, and numerous churches, Yet it only
has one public high school, one all ages club and
one Starbucks, according to Xander in the first episode from
your Resident Gile slash Artie Claire Joe slash ARTI great thoughts,

(02:02:10):
great thoughts. I will say, how big is Sunnydale the
question of all questions. I in my mind, it is
a small town and all of those things are next
door to each other, and I think that's very funny.

Speaker 2 (02:02:20):
Yeah, and also like a world famous mummy would come
and visit their.

Speaker 1 (02:02:24):
Local like Sunnydale. But here's here's what I have to say.
I do think some of these things are in neighboring cities,
like I do think the college and Reptile Boy is
in a neighboring city. Yes, and they drove there, and
like that not from Sunnydale, right, Yeah, they're from a
neighboring town, yes, yes, yes. And then like the museum

(02:02:46):
they go to an inca Mummy girl, and like that
might not be the Sunnydale Museum. It might be like
because they went there on a field trip. It might
be like a town or two over exactly. But Sunnydale
is certainly way too big to have one nice school
in it and one club.

Speaker 2 (02:03:06):
I have to say, though, I think that you're right
and they're probably in neighboring cities. I love the idea
that's all small town. Ever, this is the smallest town ever.

Speaker 3 (02:03:16):
It is like I have all this shit.

Speaker 1 (02:03:18):
It is like the Forest City planning of all.

Speaker 2 (02:03:22):
Colleges, one Starbucks. Oh my god, what a mess, what
a mess, one coffee shop.

Speaker 1 (02:03:27):
They're in these city council meetings and they're like, okay,
you know, there's so like, there are so many kids
at Sunnydale High we don't have enough chairs. However, someone
does want to build an ice skating rink in the
plot of land where we could put another high school.
And everyone's like a skating rates go infrastructure, No, se

(02:03:53):
like we want thrills. We don't care about a working society.
Those kids are going to be dead next.

Speaker 2 (02:03:59):
Week any way, we don't need another school. Might as well.

Speaker 1 (02:04:04):
Cracked the code. The code. Everyone in Sunnydale literally knows
that they are going to die at any second, so
everyone is living as if it's the last day on earth.
They're like, what's something fun I could do now? I
don't care about investing in the future of this town,
none of us. Yes, that's when they have so many

(02:04:24):
cemeteries in so many churches because everyone's like, I'm meeting
my maker tomorrow, I might as well meet him the
day after I was at an ice skating rink. I
got out the day after I went to math class.

Speaker 2 (02:04:37):
Exactly. Wait, I love that. I mean it's to me
if my town had the mortality rate that sunny Dale had.
Bro I'm going to the ice skating rink. Yeah, I'm
going to put a zoo. I'm going to call it
get the Zoo.

Speaker 1 (02:04:56):
I'm switching colleges every semester.

Speaker 2 (02:05:02):
I'm going to the zoo.

Speaker 1 (02:05:06):
And yet kind of on the bronze, and yet only
the bronze. Okay, bron they're in with the police in
the way. The principal Snyder is anytime someone tries to
open another club or coffee shop, I need you to
find their asses. Get them out of this town.

Speaker 2 (02:05:24):
Get them out of this town. There's only room for
one of us in town, and they have it like
a shootout. I'm sure, like like sheer, like you know,
old wolt style.

Speaker 1 (02:05:35):
We can't offer animals, we can't offer planes, we can't
offer ice skating, but we can offer live music and
no one else is allowed to. That's just us.

Speaker 2 (02:05:48):
I I love that horribly. I think that's awesome, the.

Speaker 1 (02:05:55):
Angel and Buffy of it all. Yeah, we talk about
this a little next week watch this space.

Speaker 2 (02:06:02):
But I the idea of Buffy calling Angel, that's so funny.
Buffy calling Angel boyfriend, that makes sense to me. Angel
calling Buffy girlfriend, Oh my god, Nail's on a talkboard.
And also I just can't picture it.

Speaker 1 (02:06:16):
Yeah, well, because he would say my groomy exactly.

Speaker 2 (02:06:25):
This is the child I'm grooming, fucking freak psychoperty psychoperverbs,
Oh my god. And also I love the phrase DTR.
I love the phrase DTR so much to me. It
feels inherently Mormon. I do too. I was actually gagged
to get this email. People use this Frice like Claire,
please let us know if you are fed all Mormon adjacent.

Speaker 1 (02:06:48):
Claire, I don't agree with you on David Boorani's attractiveness,
but I do agree with you and that I don't
find Angel compelling at all. I have been one episode
away from finishing the TV series Angel for three weeks
and I just simply can't bring myself to watch it.
My god, I just don't care for the guy. Like

(02:07:09):
I just truly am not interested in his story.

Speaker 2 (02:07:12):
Yeah, and that show. I will say that show.

Speaker 1 (02:07:16):
Has some highs, like that show really got me for
a while, but I just am like, I just don't
find Angel that compelling. I do like to build an
entire show around that's all the dun the I like the.

Speaker 2 (02:07:33):
Intro, but no, no, no, I think it's cute. No,
I agree, especially to literally Buffy Summers.

Speaker 1 (02:07:41):
Like every character my base so endearing. Yeah, yes, yeah, no,
I agree.

Speaker 2 (02:07:47):
I also, I famously think David briann is is hot.
Obviously he's like way conservative and weird now, so he
can miss me with that. But nineteen ninety seven, oh
my god, David Briance could have gotten it. Yeah, no,
I agree with that. I love this email and thank
you for sending it. I appreciate it. Up next, we've
got a message from Ira. Read the first line of

(02:08:11):
this Lean and Lina.

Speaker 1 (02:08:14):
Not Lean but yeah yeah, not Lien and Ena, Lean
and Lina. That's one and a half Lena is it
only half an Ian?

Speaker 2 (02:08:23):
I like it?

Speaker 1 (02:08:25):
This is probably for me.

Speaker 2 (02:08:26):
Let's Ian just getting just getting, just kidding.

Speaker 1 (02:08:30):
I finished Buffy a few days ago, and I generally
do not know what to do with my time now,
and now that I'm done, it feels like a loss weirdly,
even though I can and will rewatch the show many times.
There's just something that hits different about watching a show
like Buffy for the first time. As I think you
guys have mentioned before. Like many other lovely listeners of
the pod, I legit have you guys to thank for

(02:08:51):
getting me hooked Upbove the Vampire Slayer. It genuinely has
everything I love in a show and might have even
crept its way to being my favorite show of all time.
Onto my praise of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Script plot wise,
there's amazing characterization, amazing continuity, great ships both canon and

(02:09:12):
non canon, well fleshed out friendships that aren't trashed for
the sake of romance. Scooby's Love You Forever. As a
side note, Xander Willis's friendship is one of the highlights
of the entire show. For me, it makes me so
happy to not have a Glee situation where they're both
friends with Buffy are main gal and they never have

(02:09:33):
moments with each other one on one. Not only do
they have moments together, they have been fairly often too.
It's so special genre wise, Buffy dips into all my
favorite things, mystery, horror, coming of age, comedy, and of
course a little bit of romance. Also a big thing
for me is even with a great plot, if I
don't connect with characters, I won't connect with the show Angel,

(02:09:55):
the TV show starring Angel a character I don't connect with.
That was Ian editorializing back and man, does this show
get the concept of characterization. Every main character has their quirk.
No one is completely vanilla. They all bring something vital
to the table in a way where if one of
them got plucked out of the show, it would not
feel the same. As much as I don't particularly care

(02:10:17):
for him, I guess even Angel has his brooding thing
going for him. I would say for the most part,
everyone has Santana Lopez level characterization, where their actions make
sense for them as a person, as opposed to a
random personality trait getting pulled out of a hat each episode. Finally,
among many things, I love how they write our mangirl Buffy.

(02:10:38):
So often central characters get on people's nerves based on
the fact that they get majority screen time, it can
be easy to find them grading. Not our Buffy, though
she is so complex and compelling, it's no surprise that
she ends up being in most people's top five characters
at least, and in comparison to Rachel Barry, Buffy's a
fantastic character because she is always fighting against the odds.

(02:10:59):
She doesn't I don't have an easy life by any means. Rachel, however,
often gets everything handed to her on a silver platter,
which makes you less compelled to root for her. In
my opinion, all that being said at the pot is
genuinely keeping me from being too sad that I completed
the series because I get to hear y'all discuss this
banger of a show and rewatch along with you. There
are so many episodes that I can't wait for y'all
to get to. The show is just filled with gems.

(02:11:21):
I'm sure I'll be sending more thoughts your way as
you get deeper into season two. Much love, Ira Sheekher
from Canada International Listeners.

Speaker 2 (02:11:32):
I was so thrilled to receive this message, Ira, I
cannot even tell you. I'm so glad that you enjoyed
the show, especially after you finished it. I think this
show means so much to Ian and so much to me,
and so I'm so glad that this could be one
of your favorite shows. That makes me so happy because
I knew it would be. I knew it would be.

Speaker 1 (02:11:55):
I agree. The joys of my life are little weird
things from the podcast making its way to be everyday lives.
And then also listeners emailing us and saying, I finished
Buffy and it was amazing.

Speaker 2 (02:12:05):
It's one of my favorite shows.

Speaker 1 (02:12:06):
I've ever seen.

Speaker 2 (02:12:07):
Because girl, of course, because it is.

Speaker 3 (02:12:10):
It is so good.

Speaker 2 (02:12:12):
It's so good, and you're welcome. No, I'm so glad though.
It makes me so happy, and you're so right, Like
the characterization of this show is wonderful, like the plots
are thrilling, Like I I'm just so glad.

Speaker 1 (02:12:29):
Some things you point out in this email I so
agree with kind of your central point, which is like,
obviously I love a good plot, but if I don't
care about the characters, I can't get invested in the plot.
And I love saying that every character has Santana Lopez
levels of characters. Yeah, truly, every character is so well

(02:12:51):
thought out, and specifically you talking about how much the
show cares about the friendships, Like really and truly, I
know how each of these characters feels about every single
other one of our main characters, and every single one
of these characters has had solo scenes one on one
with every single other main character, Like Bengel is not

(02:13:17):
even I would say the third most important relationship on
the show. I'd say, like, the first most important is
Giles Buffy, the second most is Buffy Willow. Like, yes,
the romance is crucial and a part of it, and
I'm glad it's there because romance is very exciting. But
I love that they do not sacrifice friendship for romance plots.
And also, like you said, it's not who are these

(02:13:39):
people in relation to Buffy Summers, Like everyone is their
own person outside of Buffy, and everyone has relationships with
each other outside of Buffy, And I think that is
so much fun. It makes for such fresh dynamics and
allows for so many fun stories to unfold as we

(02:13:59):
see how these two specific characters would react to each
other in this specific situation. Yeah, it's so good, so good.
I love this show.

Speaker 2 (02:14:07):
I'm so like also like how lucky air we Oh
my god, it feels so good to be so excited
to watch the show and also so excited to talk
about it.

Speaker 1 (02:14:19):
God, it's a great show, you guys, it's the best.
It's the best, and we're and we're at the point
right now where it's really starting to take off.

Speaker 3 (02:14:29):
Get excited.
