Speaker 1 (00:00):
Opener a clock. What can we talk about? Clock opener
a clock opener?

Speaker 2 (00:09):
I barely that's it. Let's go recovering Gleek presents.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
A clear buffy podcast. Hello everyone, my name is Lena.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
And I'm you guessed it.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Ian did a point for me, and welcome to Slash.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
I actually tried to phonate and nothing came about you.
If you saw me, just open my mouth phonate as
it like makes sound.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Babe.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
I never heard that in my life. I'm never heard that.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
I tried to.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Yeah, okay, not like but just like generating grown okay,
got it, produce or utter speech sounds phone nate.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Oh I hate the day?

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Really, I got it in my head the other day
that I really want to award of the day calendar.
So maybe phoney is our word of the.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Day I have at this moment.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
No, no one judged me for this eleven thousand unread emails,
and that's that's largely because I'm just signed up for
like so many newsletters that I don't care about anymore.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Because you and I are just a like.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
You don't have to justify anything to me.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Yeah, because I do go through my email every day
and I'm like, oh, this is important, and then I
just there's so much junk that I'm like, I can't
be bothered to raise it. But I know every once
in a while I do try and crack down and
unsubscribe from stuff, and then.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
I swing I get resubscribed. So now I don't know
they know it's sucked up.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
But there is a Word of the Day newsletter that
I'm on that I'm not kidding. I've never once read,
and every time that I go to unsubscribe, I'm like, actually,
i should keep this one because it'll make me smarter,
and then I'll never read it.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
I've got one too, So I have been subscribed to
Dracula Daily for three years since its inception. Dracula Daily
is like, you know, it just sends you like it
like coincides with Dracula, like so like on October twelfth,
this is what was happening in the book. So like

(02:42):
in the book, I know in the book on October twelfth,
this is what happened. So it's like you read it
like every day that is applicable.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
That's really fun.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
And I know, and I've been subscribed for two for
three years because I've been like.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
I'm gonna read dract this is love.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Then I get so behind that I'm likeugh, I So
I just had to unsubscribe the other day. And they
also like, I think in order to get all of it,
you have to like pay for it. I wouldn't know
because I don't open the emails. You and I are
just to like that way. So oh it drives other

(03:20):
people crazy. But I did.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Unsubscribe some on the other day, which I'm not saying
that this is like a fun quirk about me. I
actually think it's annoying in your responsible and disrespectful of me.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
But some of the other day was bringing up like.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
I was talking to them and they mentioned that I
didn't like respond to a message and like.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Was I mad at them?

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (03:45):
And I was like, oh, I sincerely I guarantee that,
like I wasn't mad at you. Yeah, And I could
tell that they didn't really believe me. It says like,
let me show you something I've loved phone. I was like,
eleven thousand unready emails, four hundred and eighty two unread text,
ten unready. I was like, it's it's I'm not kidding
the mental illness I have, Like I have a really

(04:05):
hard time with the fact that people can reach me
at any point, and so sometimes my brain is just like,
we're not gonna look at any of this right now.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
No, I so agree. And I also, for me, I
think it's like two things. I think it's like, I
have really bad object permanence. So if like, you know,
I forget about food in the fridge, I forget about
food in the pantry, if it's not like in my
fucking face or I'm not like hyper fixated on it.
So I will see things, and this is the other thing.

(04:34):
I'll see things and be like I need to respond
to this. So I'm not going to open it until
I'm ready to respond.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Yes, No, I do that exact same thing.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
So I'm like, yeah, the notification is to make sure
that I will actually yeah it at some point.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Yes, So I'm like, why would I open it. I'm
not in a space that I'm ready to respond, or
I'm like I'm at work or I'm YadA YadA, YadA,
and then I forget.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
No, I exactly the same. If we didn't have a
weekly podcasts made up, we wouldn't have still consents.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
No, And that is so true, And that's like, that's
like number fucking one. That's number one on the list
of things I love about this podcast. It keeps us
updated on each.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Other because we are both really bad at and.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
We also You and I we text. I mean we've
text like maybe every day, but it's not like we're
not I mean sometimes.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
But it's just like a don't Joe, are you exactly? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Which I mean, if you How funny is that?

Speaker 4 (05:33):
No?

Speaker 1 (05:34):
I have like so many people that I love dearly
and are so important to me, and it's like the
last meaningful conversation I had with them was like a
year ago, is it once again? I don't think it's
a fun quirk. It's actually one of my least favorite
things about myself, but like it is the reality that.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
I'm living in. Anyways, all is to say, you're one
of the days Phona.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Oh my god, that's so fucking funny, bro, What is
My Line? Part one? I love this episode. I think
these two episodes are so iconic.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
It actually was crazy to me because obviously this episode
ends on like, in my opinion, the biggest.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Cliffinger yet No, I know, I agree, So never in.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
My life did I just watch What's My Line? Part
one and be like and that's enough.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
I know.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
There So this is the first time that I've ever
watched part one divorce from part two. I know, we
too interesting to be like, oh, this is the stuff
that we don't know from just.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Watching part one.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
I know, like I was actually gagged with it ending
with I'm Kener the vampire Slayer, no explanation.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
I was like, wait, we don't find out anything.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
It's also I was so thrilled watching this episode because
they really want us to think that she's a member
of the Order of Traka. You know, we have these
like tarot cards corresponding with them. I don't know, and
I mean like, you know, one is a bug, and
one is like that's like.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
The big burly devil guy. Yeah, yeah, and then one
one is like a falling angel, right.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
No, the third one is like a like some sort
of big cat.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Oh Kendry Young vibes, Yeah, big.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
Cat, big cat, which I mean I love that. I
would love to be like depicted it as a big cat.
But but anyway, so, but the sort of taraka is
always talked about, at least at least we think it's
in threes, and I mean maybe I haven't watched the
second one quite yet, so I don't remember.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Well, then they do the whole like, yeah, Giles is
like something bad is coming, cut to stepping off the
bus and then bug guy sneaking into the neighbor's house,
and then Kendrick getting off the plane.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
No I know, and like even to the watch her
lurking around it like they is so thrilling, and then
to like she's the one who gets like closest to
Buffy and then it turns out she's not even trying
to kill her. She just thinks she's like a vampire
slash vampire sympathizer. Like it's the rilling.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
I love Kendra. I love Kendra. I have such good
feelings with Kendra. I love her so fucking much. And
also like when I was watching Vampire Diaries, I was like,
she then actress, she was on, she was on Buffy
the Vampire Slayer, and you know, I was trying to
I'm actually everyone and be like, but Betty is better

(08:39):
than that than this show, even though I did enjoy
that show. Even still, wow, what's my line? Part one?
So excited to be here? I honestly it's been it's
also it's hard to not watch the second one, and
you know we'll see I.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Mean, we're recording part two tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Tomorrow, I partially because like we want to get ahead
of schedule, but also because I was like, I don't
want to wait a week and I'm watching part one.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Of part two.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
I know, let's get into it.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
Yeah, I got some slacks for you, baby, and I
actually have there's you know, as far as Buffy's concerned,
a significant amount because sometimes we script the bottle of
the Oh yeah, I just realized I didn't look up
the alternative titles, So.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Let me get that up.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
Oh god forbid, I know, that's my favorite part.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
They'd cancel us. We'd be pulled off the air, no,
I know.

Speaker 5 (09:24):
Oh yeah, it's time.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
What's my one?

Speaker 1 (09:29):
Part one aired on November seventeenth, nineteen ninety seven. It
was the ninth episode. Season two is the twenty first overall. Okay,
here's something I've noticed on Buffy Wiki. They credit Joss
Whedon with writing every single episode because famously, yeah, Joss
Whedon did get final passive every single script, any script

(09:50):
that was written. I mean, like with most TV shows,
when you are writing an episode, it's not written by
just that writer. It is written by the entire writer's room,
but that writer was like helming it, and then everyone
else kind of like does pitches. But then, famously on Buffy,
every time a script was finished, it would go to
Joss's desk, he would do a final read through, he
would make final edits, and so Buffy WICKI on every

(10:13):
episode that you look up will say written by Joss
Whedon and then the actual writers, which is confusing because
this episode is actually written by Howard Gordon and Marty Knoxen.
Marty whoooo, so it is both of their first episode
for Buffy. I believe it's Howard's only episode for Buffy. However,

(10:39):
Marty Knoxon goes on to be a huge Buffy writer.
She writes the second most episodes ever of the TV show,
behind showrunner Joss Whedon. Marty Knoxen is that girl. She's
the best. She rules, she rocks. She becomes an executive
producer on Buffy. She goes on to write for Glee.

(10:59):
She wrote Extraordinary Merry Christmas for Glee in season three.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
We love Marty Knoxen in this house and.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
I will not hear anything bad about her. If you
have anything bad to say about her, Key.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Keep yourself and this is her first This is her
first time homing an episode for Buffy. Shout Out Girl.
This episode was directed by David Solomon. David Solomon was
a producer on Buffy and this was only his second
time directing an episode of television. Ever, it's his first
time directing for Buffy. He'd previously directed an episode of
the original Matt Locke, and then I think because he

(11:33):
was a producer, he was like wanted to try his
hand on directing again and.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Shout out Okay.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
So the title of this episode of both these episode,
What's My Line? Part One and two, is a reference
to the American game show What's My Line, which ran
from nineteen fifty to nineteen sixty three. In the game
show What's My Line, celebrity panelists would appear on TV
and then there would be a random civilian testn't and

(12:01):
the panelists would ask the civilian questions about their life
and then try and guess what their occupation was. And
so that's why you know in this episode, they're taking
the career aptitude test and then everyone's finding out what
jobs they could have. And Buffy says I feel like
everyone's playing what's my line except for me. This episode
is the first time that the Scooby Gang is called

(12:22):
the Scooby Gang. This is where the term gets coined.
Xander says to Cordelia when they're trying to break into
Buffy's house. He says, do you want to be a
part of the Scooby Gang or not? And the rest
is history? Which I was.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
I mean, Marty probably did that.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
Maybe someone though on this production team loves Scooby Doo.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
Oh yeah, Scooby doar.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Willow Rosenberg is wearing Scooby Doo merch and having Scooby
Doo lunch boxes all the time.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
Oh yeah, Well, I mean, I mean I think that
you know, you know, the gang, what are they called,
the Mystery Gang, Mister Gang, the Mystery Gang, and the Scoopies,
these you know, these kids. I think that there's so
many parallels. So I can see like the inspiration that
maybe they took, and like, you know, like these group

(13:13):
of kids, these meddling kids, like solving mysteries and fighting
crime and demons. Like it's a one to one To me,
that's a.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Hot giving it's giving Willow is our girl of Alma
Jinki's this Steva Jinky's. Now here's where everyone's gonna fight
with me, and I'm going to say, I need you
all to lock the fuck in. And remember that this
is ninety seven. This is pre the James Gun movies.
We're going off the original cartoon. Daphne is Cordelia. I

(13:43):
know we want to say that Daphne is Buffy.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
I'm locked in, But Daphne.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
You mean Buffy is Fred and you are correct. Buffy
is absolutely Fred the James Gun movies. The best thing
about those movies is what they did for Daphne's character,
because now she still is like a girly girl and
like loves fashion, but she also kicks ass. In the
original cartoon, Daphne, all she really contributes is she pays
for stuff and then besides that, she just gets in

(14:11):
trouble a Cordelia Chase thing to do. Yeah, it's Buffy
is Fred. Now here's where it gets Dicey is Ander
shaggy or is Xander scoopy too well?

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Tamil? Then what does that make Giles?

Speaker 2 (14:24):
See? And that's as hard is He's like Velma.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Two point out the mister machine he's the mystery machine.
And if Xander is Shaggy, then who is Scooby? Is
Giles Scooby Agree.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
I'm kidding. I'm literally kidding. You cut that, you cut that,
bleep that out, bleep what I said out.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
What I said, that's correct, that's correct. Okay, we solved it.
Xander is Shaggy, shaggy and Giles is the mystery.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
I think that's what I agree. And I think, like
obviously Daphne in the live action movies is she has
a huge depth to her obviously, But bitch, that is
Sarah Michelle Geller. That's not Dafie.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
I mean you know, it's Daphney Blake. That's no, just
Sarah doing Buffy again.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
And I love that and I love that. But I agree,
and I think Cordelia is a is a more like
one to one. I keep saying one to one.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
Cordelia is literally exactly Daphne, like a little shallow very
into her appearance, Rich gets in trouble a lot, but
also when push comes to shove, is going to help
out and is going to save the day.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Yeah, were you a Scooby Doo kid? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (15:51):
I mean I loved the movies. Well, I told you
I went by Thorn for years.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Because of the Hex Girls, right.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
Because of the Hex Girls.

Speaker 5 (16:00):
You know that.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
I think. I think Thorn from the Scooby Doo movie
was a gayway kidding of mine.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
Hell yeah, hell yeah, I love her.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
I love her down.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
There was a Scooby Doo movie, one of the cartoon ones,
that was like ten years later, and Daphne was now
a talk show host and Shaggy and Scooby worked for
airport security. It was like everyone had gone their separate ways,
and Daphne like it was like Live with Daphne Blake

(16:33):
and like her whole show was like gotcha journalism, proving
that paranormal stuff isn't real and it's all.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
A host Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
And then she.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
Gets like one final big job and they have to
reunite the entire gang, and then it turns out like, oh,
this time the ghost is real. It is a real ghost.
Oh and that movie Gageden gooped me. I remember being
six years old and being like, this is a cinematic experience.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
It's like I'm on the edge of my seat watching this.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
I love Scooby Doo growing up. I don't remember that one.
I feel like I vaguely remember it, but I don't remember,
but there's so.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
Many Yeah, I really liked it, and I like watched
the like Hannah Barbara nineteen sixties Scooby Doo reruns.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
Two Network like I was in of course.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
Yeah, Hey, I was a Willow Rosenberg and that's of.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Course I like that show too, because you know, obviously
I like wouldn't watch shows about boys. But I feel like,
at least in my mind, were.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
Such a huge quote Sarah Michelle Geller, which she really
liked about Scooby Do is that it wasn't.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
A boy girl boy.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
What if?

Speaker 5 (17:40):
What if?

Speaker 2 (17:41):
Freddy's like the talking dog, talking dog.

Speaker 3 (17:47):
God, those are my parents.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
I love them.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
It wasn't a boy show a girl show.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
It's so true.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
Okay, so they're called the Scooby Do Gang for the
first time, everyone cheered. This episode marks the first appearance
of the bar Willie's Place, which is the bar that
Angel goes like beat at the Bartender, which will appear
a few more times about the series. It is also
revealed in this episode that Sunnydale canonically has forty three churches.
Well like how but also hear me out, yeah that

(18:18):
to me if people were dying constantly and paranormal stuff
was happening. I feel like everyone in time would be
finding God.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
Not to mention, like, I mean, I'm like from a
small town. We got hell of churches in this town. Yeah,
like obviously like like one hundred Mormon churches, but also
like many other religions as well, like people in small
townsill love God. Yeah, and especially if everyone was dying

(18:46):
all the time, I feel like, yeah, oh, you gotta
get good with God.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
You gotta get good with God.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
Gotta The set that they used to be the hold
of the plane that Kendra is hiding on was later
reused as a super tunnel.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
They just ended upside down.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Oh I love stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
The ice rink that Buffy skates at is iceland, that's
what it's called in Paramount, California. And then the exterior
of Buffy's house. Up until this point, they were using
a real house in Towards California. Starting next episode, it
is going to be a sound stage that they have

(19:24):
constructed to look like.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
The real house in Torrents.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
However, in this house, in this episode, part of me
it is still the real house, and the only visible
difference between the real house and the set house is
that the windows on either side of the door are
a little different. In the real house, there are normal
sea through panes. In the the sound stage part of

(19:48):
me they are slim panes of glass that you can't
see through.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
Nice.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
This episode marks the first appearance of Bianca lass In
as Kendra Young.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
Young.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
Do you think she's Mormon?

Speaker 2 (20:05):
I literally I was like, so.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
Every time I hear the last name Young, I assume
they're Mormon.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
It is a weird pick for a last name for
this character, though. Yeah, and something with the TV show
Buffy is they don't always like to give characters last names.
There are quite a few characters that their last name
is just never spoken. And after Buffy ended, they released
a trading card game with all the Buffy characters, and

(20:35):
the trading card game was like, Okay, we can't be
like this is the Buffy Summer's card, and then like
this is the Kendra card, Like we need to have
everyone have a first and last name. So there are
quite a few characters that have last names that are
never actually mentioned in the show but were canonized in
that card game, and Kendra is.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
One of them.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Oh interesting, Kendra Young yep, okay, Kendrew Young.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
See and in my memory, she says, I'm Kendra Young the.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
Exactly Yeah, like weird Mandela fact happening there. Because I agree,
I totally remember that. I feel like I've never heard
Young before.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
No, but there are characters in this show that I
Their last name is so clear to me that when
I found out that their last name is never spoken
on the show, I'm like, that's wrong.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
No, it is, but it's not.

Speaker 1 (21:23):
They did not have a last name their entire run
on the show, Eliza Dushu's character being the main one.
Eliza Dusch's character is not given a last name show.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
But to me, like her last name is so obvious,
I'm like, well, of course that's her name. Her name
is never said in the entire run of the show.
That okay, wait it was in the card Game.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
No way.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
I feel like her last name is so iconic.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
I know, I agree.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
I feel like when I talk about her, I'm saying
first last name.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
I agree, I always say like blank. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
Anyways, So Bianca Lassan, who's playing Keundry Young, shout out.
She was originally cast as Cordelia Chase back in the
pilot day, she was the original for.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
Now.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
There are conflicting stories as to why she did not
continue on why she didn't appear as Cordelia and the
pilot when it was filmed for a long time, the
story was that Bianca Lawson left the project to go
star on the sitcom Good Behavior. This does match up

(22:30):
because Good Behavior premiered in ninety six, so it would
have been filming around the same time as the original
pilot for Buffy. However, in the book Slayers and Vampires
The Complete Uncensored, Unauthorized Oral History of Buffy and Angel
by Edward Frost and Mark A. Altman, they interview Joss's

(22:51):
former assistant George Snyder, and George says that the reason
Bianca Lawson did not end up filming as Cordelia Chase
is because the network, oh yeah, yeah, did not want
to have interracial relationships on the TV show and they

(23:12):
they knew that this this main character dynamic was likely
going to be like pretty incestuous, and they didn't and
so they were like, well, this is like literally problematic
on all sides. Yeah, And they were like, well, we
want the freedom to let like mix and match the characters.
How we please, So I guess we'll have Cordelia be

(23:34):
white so we're not constrained by that.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
It's really gross and messy on all sides.

Speaker 3 (23:40):
That's so insane, especially to like do it network wide,
like it makes me sick. That's so weird. Yeah, and
to like also like offer someone a job and then
to take it away maybe mm hm, Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
Yeah, it's really gross.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
No, I really, that really is awful. And I mean
it just goes to show like how like systemic racism
is too. Like it's like it's not even just like
person to person, it's like taking jobs away from people.
It's like, you know, we can't show this to YadA,
YadA YadA. We can't have to like, oh my god,
that makes me sick. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
Bianca Lawson's stunt and double as Kendra is April Whedon,
and April Whedon also goes on two star as her
own character.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
In the Future of Buffy. April Whedon plays Nikki.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
Would okay, okay, okay.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
So she's doing double duty.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
That's awesome.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
And I believe you mentioned this a few episodes ago.
We were talking about schoolhard and we're talking about how
crazy Juliet Landa's accent is and then you said something about, like,
you know, there's a lot I could say about like
the accent work on this TV show. I believe you

(25:04):
were probably talking about Kendra jungam my.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
Cr I was, and I just I don't know what
you have written down, but I have heard like interviews
in the past, I think from beyond Glossan talking about
how and I mean listen, and I don't know, but
I think they chose like they had a dialect coach
for her, and they chose like a really really really
really really specific dialect that isn't like I don't know,

(25:32):
like it's just like really specific and I don't know.

Speaker 1 (25:37):
Yeah, yeah, So according to all the sources, this is
a real dialect from a very specific, obscure region of Jamaica. However,
also according to all of the sources, Kendra was not
written to have a Jamaican accent, and then last minute
they were like, actually, let's let have her have an accent,

(25:58):
and so like a dialect coach was brought in, but
at least in my mind, it was so last minute
that like they didn't really have the time to really
lock it in, which is why it sounds crazy, at
least to me. To me, it has always I don't know,
I feel like this is maybe dicey territory, but her

(26:20):
accent has always come across more campy than authentic to
me and watching this TV show.

Speaker 3 (26:27):
And obviously especially if she hadn't been working on it
for very long.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
Yeah, I don't know. I mean, this isn't just us talking.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
About her accent is like infamous in the fandom, like
it is.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
It's a choice.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
It is a choice, especially with like Serchell's accent work
in Halloween, Like clearly they are.

Speaker 3 (26:51):
Not the ass on the accent.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
Work now, and I think that they could have. I
think they could have invested some more in their.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
Accent work with some more times more effort.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
Yeah, with the Juliet Landaus, the Sarah Michelle's and now are.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
According to some of our British listeners, like you know,
I think the accents on this on the show are
a little across the board.

Speaker 1 (27:18):
My very last slack is that Sarah Michelle Geller does
all her own skating this episode. Shout out Diva, Dorothy
hammil realness, those are slacks.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
Do you have any alternate titles for me?

Speaker 6 (27:27):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (27:28):
My gosh, I literally forgot twice. I have it open
and I forgot.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
Okay, alternativeitls It's my favorite part.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
What is my way? What will I Be?

Speaker 1 (27:42):
This is interesting because what's my line? Only works in
English since it's a TV show that, like only Americans
would really be familiar with, so they're all very different.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
We got visitors. France named the episode Kendra.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
Also, it's interesting because we don't hear her name until
the last line of the entire episode.

Speaker 3 (28:05):
Who Kendra?

Speaker 1 (28:06):
Who is Kendra? When we find out the rival? What
will the future bring? These are across the board?

Speaker 2 (28:12):
Oh okay, honestly I like these a lot. Mm hmm.
Unity makes the strength? What okay? Shout out? Okay, Buffy's destiny?

Speaker 3 (28:21):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (28:22):
I like that. What should I do? Which is my reply?
What is my path? What is my vocation? What's mine?
And then in Swedish it is what's my line?

Speaker 3 (28:34):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (28:34):
Love?

Speaker 3 (28:35):
I especially like the visitors. I think that's really exciting
because I think, you know, this episode being framed by
visitors and like who's coming to like fuck with Buffy?
I think that's exciting.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
I like Kendra shadow.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
I love Dendra. Oh, I love that. That's awesome. Okay,
are you ready for a recap here? Yeah, I have
nothing about like the Cross or like the.

Speaker 1 (29:02):
Delac so you don't need to know. And I also
like you don't need to specific.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
No no, And it's like I mean I care about
what's going on, I didn't care enough to write it down. Okay,
here we go. Previously on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it's
career week. What's my line? Oh wait, I already know
and that's Buffy and she already knows what she's gonna
do for the rest of her life, be a slayer,
and that's it. Drew and Spikes in the order of

(29:29):
Taraka after Buffy and three individuals ranging for a fabulous
too made of bugs to very large are stalking Buffy
to get her. Angel and Buffy kiss while he's in
vamp face and the Gorgeous Stalker sees it. Drew and
Spike get their hands on a really important cross and
plan to do something scary with it. Big guy gets
got bug Guy gets Xander and Cordy and gorgeous girl

(29:51):
is a slayer. And that's what you missed on My
Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
Shout Out, Shout Out Part one, Part one.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
Yeah, honestly, Marty Knoxon hit this set, and she hit
the set swinging, swinging. She said, no warm up for me.
I'm running one hundred miles per hour in my first episode.
I really like this episode.

Speaker 3 (30:13):
I agree, And I also feel like this episode is
very funny.

Speaker 7 (30:19):
Liked.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
I well, okay, maybe I'm just maybe I'm just feeling
warm towards Xander recently. He's really making me laugh.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
Girl. This is what I've been saying.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
I am not on this podcast to be like, I
think Xander's like an amazing guy. I'm not on this
podcast to be like he's a top three character.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
I don't believe any of that.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
I'm on this podcast to say the pendulum of the
fan base has swung so against Xander that I'm like,
y'all are now forest for the trees, Like he actually
has a lot of funny moments and you're turning a
blind eye because you're mad at him.

Speaker 3 (30:56):
Yeah, which, I mean, Hey, I understand where people are
coming from. I under I really do. But I mean,
you know, he the last few episodes, like he just
like he is just really making me laugh. I think
they've like kind of hit a really good stride with
him as well, like even like a I love him

(31:19):
and Cordelia laughing at each other and like, you know,
making Snyder remarks at each other. I always laugh at those.
And then when they're at the like career the career
sheets being posted is diabolical work. That's evil behavior. Principal Snyder,
you belong in prison. No, I we should talk about that.

(31:43):
We should talk about that, But I'm telling something. I'm
saying something else first. Xander like picking up the paper,
being like what what he's like terrified for his life
to like look at this sheet of paper, and I
would be too. I would be too. It is diabolical work.
They would post these. Yeah, I feel like I have,

(32:03):
you know, I can't remember exactly, but I've seen I
think we've done I had done something like this, but
we were all like assigned a number.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
And it maybe it was so like only you knew
your number.

Speaker 3 (32:17):
Yeah, so you could look at the posted thing and
like see what you matched with or something. I even
think it was like I might be like remembering like
a Valentine's thing where people are like our school like
signed up for like a system that would like match
you with a Valentine, which is weird.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
Weird, hey arrange Valentine's baby.

Speaker 3 (32:38):
I know, but I do not remember anything coming of it.
But like you would receive a number and then you
would get a name, and you know, you could like
reach out if you wanted, but it was like, I
don't know, it was just like you took a quiz
and you got matched with a person. I don't know.
I literally can't remember more than that. But it wasn't
like a Ian plus Lena thing. It was like a
seventy four plus Ian already, So like I knew I

(33:01):
would be seventy four and you know, we could. I
could reach out to you if I wanted, but it
wasn't like publicly like look at these two matched. Yeah anyway,
even still, to post everyone's careers career aptitude like to
the public is diabolical work. I don't want to be dramatic,

(33:23):
but I think if I saw this, I would drop
out of school and you would never see me again.
Like this is really this is like deeply I feel
like upsetting shit.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
Yeah, and once like, oh my gosh, you guys, I swear,
I like I swear. Of the main characters besides Angel,
he probably is my lead, not even probably he is
my least favorite. But once again, something I find compelling
about Xander is he is constantly haunted by the fact

(33:54):
that he's a loser and everyone knows he's a loser,
and everyone's laughing at him. And so to have all
of the careers posted for the entire school to see,
and then not only for him to see his career himself,
but for it to come from Cordelia like you should
see what you got. Yeah, And it says this test
has found that the career he's most suit for is

(34:16):
a prison guard. Like I just I find that stuff
about him very very interesting and sad and tragic.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
I agree.

Speaker 1 (34:25):
And also, Xander said a cab. I don't know if
you guys are listening, Xander said, acab.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
He said, he said police like donuts, like polyester and brutality.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
Yes, and that does also make sense with his character.
He was the one that in Reptile Boy he was like,
these fraternity boys are all like douchebag creepos, like people
who do fraternities. They're all just rich kids who lift
each other up and help each other get away with shit.
Like I know, he's a nasty team boy, and he's
pervy and he hits on his friends all the time

(34:56):
and he doesn't care if they're not interested, and that
needs to be talked about, and that is gross.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
But he also.

Speaker 1 (35:03):
He also says a cap and he also says he's
kind of these rich upper class don't care about people.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
Like Yeah, and I respect that. I love that, and
I think we should talk about that more.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
Hey, hey, yeah, I do.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
I agree that that's diabolical, and also I find it
it's another point for the Xander is compelling contest and
that his career because I feel like a weaker show,
it would be like, oh, and Xander's future is that
he's going to be an actor. It's it would be
something where like gives him hope. But I feel like

(35:43):
one of the reasons I like Buffy as a show
is although I think the show is far too forgiving
of xander sins, it never lets him escape the fact
that he's not going to mount to much in the
eyes of the world. It never is like Xander's going
to prove everyone wrong. Instead, it's like Xander needs to

(36:05):
learn to value himself outside of what the world defines
success as. And I think that's compelling and interesting and
maybe he'll be a prison guard, maybe he'll be something else,
but his value as a person doesn't come from what
his career is.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
Absolutely and especially like a career test he took at sixteen. Yeah,
I totally know what it's like to be sixteen and
to be lost and to be like, what's my place
in the world, and to hear from like so many
different sources that like, hey, actually, maybe your place in
the world is something that's so lame and not what
you want. I don't know, Like, I totally get that.

(36:45):
I like so, I like, I think that's a good
character I have on this TV show that is like
a metaphor for growing up. Yeah, I think it's I mean, hey, shit,
not me becoming a xanderstand on air.

Speaker 2 (37:03):
I'm just kidding.

Speaker 1 (37:09):
And then on the other end of the spectrum for
it to be like a government agency basically came to
Sunnydale to recruit Willow personally because like her test scores
were so insane.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
That is like so.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
Cartoony and stupid. But I am very on board for it.
I think it's very funny. And they have to like
offering her cannapase, like they have this whole also just
for her in Oz have set up like this entire
lounge and have or dervs that they're giving me.

Speaker 3 (37:41):
I can't wait to see what happens next with this.
So silly, but it's also like, you know, I love that,
Like there's like randomly like Feds at the at Sunnydale
like quite frequently, and like it's such a hot hot
I do think spot for like craziness.

Speaker 2 (37:59):
I think they can.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
I think a conspiracy goes right to the top if
if like the local police force knows that supernatural stuff
is going on and.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
They're covering it up the federal.

Speaker 3 (38:08):
Government, the government.

Speaker 1 (38:09):
Yeah, and so they're like, we need to find smart
kids in this town because not only can they like
code and do computers, but they also are experienced with
supernatural stuff and they can help us out WHOA. I
think that's why they're specifically recruiting from Sunnydale High snatching
up Daniel Osborne and Willa Rosenberg. Why did I say
Osborne like it was past tense.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
I think that I agree the conspiracy goes straight to
the top. They must know m hmm. But then also
like post like she doesn't even get like a like
a burner career.

Speaker 1 (38:40):
Because they can't I guess, I guess they could have
given her a burner, but like they can't let everyone
know like Willow has been chosen for a higher purpose.

Speaker 3 (38:48):
It's gotta be sick is to post these results is
crazy work.

Speaker 1 (38:52):
By I agree, gives h Miss Personal Shop or Cordelia
Chase a lot of AMMO against people.

Speaker 3 (38:59):
Oh exactly, exactly did you ever take one of these?

Speaker 1 (39:03):
I like distinctly remember taking a career aptitude test in
probably eighth grade, and I do have no memory of
what I had.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
I do not remember at all what I.

Speaker 3 (39:12):
Got me neither, And I think that we had career
fairs at my high school for sure, but it never
was like accompanied by.

Speaker 1 (39:20):
Yes ours was in the computer class that I mentioned
last week, I do frankly you talked about like I
didn't take a computer class, and I said that I did.
But I do feel like my computer class was kind
of a relic of when computers were new and the
school district didn't get rid of it yet. Because so
many days in that class, I'm kind of like, what

(39:42):
was the point of that lesson?

Speaker 2 (39:43):
And I think it was.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
The students had gotten to a point where we knew
so much going in that they were just kind of
trying to fail our days. Yeah, because I swear I
did the career aptitude test in that computer class and
it was just like we went to a website and
did it, but it wasn't associated with a career rear week.
They're like no one was coming in, there was someone
to talk to. So I do feel like our teacher
was just like, I don't know what to do today. Yeah,

(40:07):
we're going to take a career aptitude test like I have.
There's nothing on the syllabus that these kids don't already
know how to do.

Speaker 3 (40:14):
Also, thinking back, I did take a computer class that
was specifically like for like learning how to like use
Excel and make powerpoints on stuff. Hey, I so I
still like say, I'm like Excel certified on my resumes
and stuff, but I just mean like eighth grade.

Speaker 2 (40:33):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (40:33):
And then Buffy her career aptitude test is that she
should be in law enforcement.

Speaker 2 (40:37):
Xander says a cab, Xander says a cab, and Buffy
does not want to be in law enforcement.

Speaker 3 (40:43):
Yeah, Honestly, I really appreciate how everyone is like, ooh,
why would you do that? I love that I mean,
obviously she has some sort of like enforcement y job currently,
like as the Slayer, but I appreciate that they are

(41:05):
kind of like a cap that sounds awful.

Speaker 2 (41:11):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (41:13):
Oh my god, I think this episode is so strong.
This is a well we go back to a lot
and yet it never runs dry for me, which is
the well of Buffy's never going to have a normal life.
She's always going to be the Slayer. And to frame
that with career week, to frame that with everyone's finding
out what they're going to do in the future and

(41:34):
what the rest of their lives is going to be,
and it is just rubbing more in Buffy's face that
she will never have the adulthood that everyone else is
going to have. And then it's like, even if she
does get a job, which frankly she'll probably have to
do because being the Slayer doesn't pay her bills.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
Yeah, that the job.

Speaker 1 (41:53):
That is right for her is essentially being the Slayer,
but with red tape in bureaucratic bullshit on.

Speaker 2 (42:00):
Top of it.

Speaker 3 (42:01):
Yeah, Oh my god, exactly.

Speaker 2 (42:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (42:03):
So it's just like this is an inescapable fate and
I think that is all very strong, and it's her
questioning what the rest of her life is going to be,
and then we find out, oh my gosh, the Order
of Tarca is coming, and then it's like, oh my gosh,
I might not even have a rest of my life
because all of these dudes are coming to kill me.
Her and Angel trying to have like the grasp but

(42:24):
normally we're going to the singer thing is really beautiful.
And then also this episode keeps harping on Buffy being like,
I don't have a choice. There's no one else who
can do this. Giles being like, you don't have a choice.
There's no one you can do the else who can
do this. Buffy being like, I don't want to go
slaying tonight, and if that's a problem for you, maybe
you should find someone else. Oh wait, you can't. No

(42:46):
one else can do this. And then suddenly the episode
ends on this other girl introducing herself as a vampire slayer.

Speaker 2 (42:56):
Gag the Sentry. I remember watching this for the first
time and being like.

Speaker 3 (43:00):
What happened?

Speaker 2 (43:02):
I was shocked.

Speaker 1 (43:05):
Yeah, twist of all twists, I agree, And the build
up to it is very because one obviously, like like
you mentioned Kendrew being the Order of Taraka is assumed
the entire episode and would already be an exciting plot
point as like, oh my gosh, this bounty hunter has
caught up to her. I feel like this, I feel

(43:26):
like I'm talking too much now, I'm kind of not
making a point here, But then for that to flip
and be something we absolutely would not have suspected at all,
which is, no, actually, i'm you and I think you're
a vampire or a vampire sympathizer because I saw you
kissing mister vampire yesterday, and so that's why I'm trying
to kill you.

Speaker 3 (43:44):
Yeah, I know, I don't think you were talking too much, No,
I so agree. Like you know, also, like from the
beginning of the television show, like one Slayer is called
and she alone, alone will defeat the vampires and the

(44:06):
forces of evil, you know what I mean. Like she
like that's like the main part of it, is she
the chosen one. And then to like have our world
view so fucked so quickly, like it is, oh my god,
thrilling to say the least. And also like you know,
I'm just like I'm really excited to see what's gonna

(44:27):
happen next with this, because it's the gag of the century.
I remember seeing this and being.

Speaker 6 (44:31):
Like, what what are you talking about?

Speaker 3 (44:35):
And like, you know, it's thrilling. And also to have
this vampire slayer in the mix, seeing Buffy get cozy
with a vampire like her sworn enemy, and then like
what is Buffy gonna say to justify this? I literally
was like, oh my god, Like I can't imagine what
Kendra is like feeling now. I mean, obviously Kendra doesn't

(45:00):
know that Buffy is a vampire slayer as well, but
I don't know. I'm just I'm very excited to see
what happens next, Like this is very thrilling. And there's
also that part to to talk about what we were
talking about just a little bit ago, in like where
Buffy and Giles are in the graveyard during the daytime
and they're talking about career aptitude and they're talking about

(45:20):
like the rest of Buffy's life and she's feeling some
type of way because she just learned about, you know, everything,
and she's like, well, it's not it's not like you, Giles,
Like you can't just like you're the Watcher, but you're
also like your job as books, Like it's not like
that for me, like there's not like like I have
to do this, Like I can't just have another job.
Being a teenager is so difficult and like it's like

(45:43):
choosing where to go to college, choosing what to study,
and like, you know, feeling like you have to like
pick what you want the rest of your life to be.
And then for so many people it's like there's so
many things, and especially for Buffy, there's like one thing
involved that is like going to f up every part
of picking the rest of her life, and it's like

(46:05):
I'm being told to like I don't know.

Speaker 1 (46:08):
Well, Also, I think I think it's true of a
lot of people. Obviously a lot of people aren't like
I can out of the career I want because I
have to go kill demons. But for a lot of people,
it's like, oh my gosh, I'm watching all my friends
think of the careers they could have and think of
the colleges they could go to, and I have to
stay home and support my younger siblings, Like I can't
go to college and therefore I can't pursue the career

(46:31):
that I want because I can't afford to take the
time to go to school and pay the money to
go to school to get that career.

Speaker 3 (46:37):
Ye, that is such a good thought, seriously.

Speaker 2 (46:39):
Yeah, and.

Speaker 1 (46:42):
That's just like what I love about this TV show
is so many of the supernatural aspects are intentionally applicable
to our very natural life and seeing Buffy struggle with that.
I do not have the freedom of choice that my
peers have. My future has been determined and it is

(47:02):
not something that I am passionate about or want to
be doing, but it is my responsibility. Like no one
else is going to do this if I don't do that.
And I think that is so many people's reality.

Speaker 3 (47:13):
Yeah, I know it so is what I wouldn't give
to go back to nineteen ninety seven, Like watch this
and you know, not know what's going to happen next,
because like we know this about Buffy. We know that
like she yearns for something more and like the freedom
to choose what she wants to do. Like what does

(47:33):
introducing a new vampire slayer do to Buffy's feelings that
already exist about this?

Speaker 2 (47:39):
Like I don't know.

Speaker 3 (47:40):
I feel like that week betwixt Part one Part two,
my mind would be going crazy.

Speaker 1 (47:46):
Yeah, yeah, what is sticky that you want to talk about?

Speaker 2 (47:49):
You want to talk about Spike and Drew.

Speaker 3 (47:51):
Yeah, I always do.

Speaker 2 (47:52):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (47:53):
We have that gorgeous shot of Juliet Landau that I
always think of when I think of her, where she
goes spuck don't and she like puts her hand out
and she's like, this is her ballet training her Like
the angles of her body, the way that she that's ballet.
That's ballet training. Gorgeous, gorgeous girls. I love that, Drusilla,

(48:17):
you know. Okay, And this is where it's like, why
am I the person who's running a Buffy podcast? And
it's because I feel so passionate about the TV show.
I answered your question for you, but I the the
intricacies of the extra stuff in terms of the Cross,
like what is the Cross for?

Speaker 2 (48:35):
What does the Cross do?

Speaker 3 (48:38):
Like I don't.

Speaker 2 (48:41):
Care, Oh well, the Cross don't care.

Speaker 3 (48:46):
But I mean, like I don't like when I'm watching,
I'm like, oh, give me back to like interpersonal relationship stuff,
you know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (48:53):
Yes, I do. I understand you. The Cross is just
a mcguffin. It's just to like give us, it's just
to get the plot moving.

Speaker 2 (49:01):
Okay, I understand, But it is the point.

Speaker 1 (49:04):
Of the Cross is that we've been building up for
episodes and episodes and episodes that Drusilla is was some
great evil, but something happened in Prague and she's sick
and that's why Buffy can like take her out with
one punch now. And so this whole episode is like
this dude, Duloch had this cross that was imbued with

(49:27):
the power to heal people, and so if Drusilla gets
this Cross, she will be back to her full power.
And now instead of just Spike, we now have two
fully powered vampires, and from everything we've heard so far,
Drusilla is the more powerful of the two. Yes, And
like the Spike, the Cross is just because the writers
needed something to be like, this is the the thing

(49:49):
they're searching forward that he's trying to get first, but
like it is the looming threat of what will Drusilla
do if she's at full power.

Speaker 3 (49:56):
Okay, I'm on my way. And then we have the
like the nerd.

Speaker 2 (50:00):
Vampire, mister Oliver Cowdrey, the vampire. Yeah, I literally on
screen and I was like, I've.

Speaker 1 (50:09):
Seen this before, little like wirefry glasses.

Speaker 2 (50:14):
He's got like a little.

Speaker 3 (50:15):
Cravat fan face reading books. Yes, these other two vampires
are not in vamp face. I I think there's like, obviously,
I think these are the two who are doing the
most talking, they're also the main vampires. But I think
it is slagh as fuck, and I think it's like,

(50:35):
I don't know, it's it's powerful to me that like
these two are so infrequently in vampire face and that
the rest of the cronies are always always yeah, I mean.

Speaker 2 (50:48):
Don't you dare put on your human face around us.

Speaker 3 (50:50):
That's just it's like it's giving. It's like these people,
I don't know, like it's powerful, it's fancy. I like it.
I don't know, but like to have you know, nerdy
ass vampire in like full vamp face reading books with
his little glasses on and his bumpy for it. I

(51:10):
really loved that, I really did. And Buffy like almost
stops this guy when he gets the cross and he's like, god,
that Buffy, she is really in the way, and Spike
going like, yeah, I know, are you kidding, like Captain obvious,
like I've gotten so fucking close to everything I've wanted
to do when she fucking stops me at every turn,

(51:32):
I'm not stupid. I love that part. I just think,
like Spike is so sassy and weird. I'm I love
him horribly, Like, oh my god.

Speaker 2 (51:46):
I agree, Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 1 (51:49):
I understand what you're saying about, like this plot is
not as interesting as the interpersonal relationships and Buffy wrestling
with her future and the freedom of choice and whether
she even has a choice all of that.

Speaker 2 (52:03):
And I agree.

Speaker 1 (52:04):
However, I think as far as our season long storyline
that we're building, these scenes are incredibly crucial, and they
are minimal enough that it doesn't bother me. There's really
only like three Spike and Drew so Scilla scenes, and
I have really enjoyed this slow burn of we introduced

(52:24):
Spike and Drusilla, and Spike is so like in schoolhard
We are only told about Spike. We see Drusilla, but
we are not given any information about her. And it
is Spike was known as William the Bloody, he did this,
he did that, He's killed two slayers, et cetera, et cetera.
And then Drusilla is just kind of like there and
we know she's like weird and sick. And then to

(52:47):
find out and lie to me that Drusilla has this
history with Angel that the only reason we didn't know
about her is that she was assumed dead. But like,
she is incredible, dangerous, incredibly powerful, like has psychic abilities
on top of everything else. I love this reversal of Spike. Yes,

(53:09):
is a threat, but Drusilla is the real threat, Like,
she is the one you really need to look out for.
And this entire plan has been them trying to get
Drusilla back to full power. Because once that happens, like,
it's curtains for this layer.

Speaker 3 (53:25):
Yeah, and please don't get me twisted. I love Spike
and Drew. Every time they're on my screen, I am
having fun. It's just the extra stuff that I'm like,
I'll never remember du Lac or.

Speaker 1 (53:42):
Do Lock because I loved his little song and Shrek
one they go to his mausoleum to get the cross
and there's a bunch of puppets and they go, wellcome
to du Lock.

Speaker 3 (53:55):
It is a perfect I'm like Buffy in this way
where the like I have, I have my I have
my Scooby gang. Who's gonna tell me the important shit
I need to know? But I'm here for relationships. I
like to watch the relationships between the people, like and
obviously the things that like, I don't know, do you

(54:16):
get you get me in that way.

Speaker 2 (54:18):
Though, yeah you hear me, Yeah, but do Loch.

Speaker 3 (54:22):
I don't give a shit, but I'm excited for what
that would bring. So like, I you know, I love
to hear about Drusilla and like what is that going
to mean when she's at full power.

Speaker 1 (54:34):
I also thought it was funny that Dulch got expelled
from the Vatican so clearly like was living in the
larger Rome area and then died in California And okay,
like his big mausoleum is just in this small town

(54:55):
in California.

Speaker 2 (54:57):
Sure, whatever, that is so funny.

Speaker 3 (55:00):
I didn't even think about that, like what happened, Like
was he like was he like called here by the helmouth?

Speaker 2 (55:06):
Do you think I think it? I think we are
supposed to believe.

Speaker 1 (55:09):
Well, Buffy even says something on the lines of like
expelled from the Vatican, buried in the hellmouth, like what
a life?

Speaker 6 (55:15):
Like.

Speaker 1 (55:16):
I think we are led to believe that he was
drawn to Sunnydale for hellmouth reasons. Yeah, I still it's
just funny to me, being like a small town in
the US. I mean, like this is a guy who
was like a big priest in Vatican City. Weird and
also I got they don't I don't know what they
tell us when Dulock died, but like in my mind

(55:37):
he died in like the eighteenth century, So like why
is he?

Speaker 3 (55:40):
I assume every like one of these relics and books
are like more than one hundred years old. So yes,
I agree, speaking of random Italian man, Yeah, this Italian
American man Willie.

Speaker 2 (55:53):
Oh who runs the bar from Brooklyn, New York. Yes,
what is his deal?

Speaker 3 (56:00):
I I was like this random guy and Sony Dale
who's like in with the vampires and the humans. He's like,
you help me, I help you? Like what I'm like,
what is his deal? And what is he helping them with?
And what are they helping him with? Drugs? Maybe Anda,
here's the thought, come with me, take my hand.

Speaker 2 (56:22):
Okay, this is what is his name?

Speaker 1 (56:25):
Willy out of the bars? Will these bars? Like probably Okay,
do you own it? Or is he just a bartender?

Speaker 2 (56:31):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (56:32):
I literally was like, what is this relationship? Obviously? Like
he has like a lot of information. He knows Spike,
he knows Drew, he knows Angel, He's a ceed character.
This is what I'm getting at he like gives them blood.
Sometimes I think that it come with me on this.
I don't know. I wonder if he I don't know.

(56:56):
I feel like now I've like made a big deal
out of nothing almost to say, I think this guy
likes when the vampires feed on him.

Speaker 2 (57:05):
Hey, he's into it, shut out right.

Speaker 3 (57:08):
I was getting this vibe like like they help each
other out. I was like, I wonder, but I mean,
like Spike in his gang killed without abandon I don't know,
but maybe him an Angel. I was like getting like
like like vibes, like they were like like almost like
drug vibes. But I was like, maybe the drug in

(57:28):
this is is blood and like maybe the drug the
blood is Willie's blood. Am I making any sense?

Speaker 2 (57:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (57:37):
Ann Rii's big inspiration for by the vampires Layer in
her books. That is like a common relationship that it's
like I am vampire. You are dude that I feed on,
but I don't ever kill you and I don't turn
you into a vampire. I just like come by once a.

Speaker 2 (57:51):
Week around a lot of times.

Speaker 1 (57:53):
There's a chapter in an interview with a vampire where
he talks about how the guy getting fed on.

Speaker 2 (57:59):
His foe hard. I mean, of course, so I don't
think you're.

Speaker 3 (58:06):
This is the like I was getting this vibe from that. Yeah,
but also this guy, Like this guy, he's from Brooklyn.
He moved from Brooklyn to start his own bar into
like have sex with vampires. This is my dream. He
is living my dream. No, I'm just kidding, but I

(58:30):
mean I literally was like, this is such a funny guy,
Like what is this deal?

Speaker 1 (58:36):
The Willies of the world are one of my favorite
aspects of the Buffy verse. I love these people who
are regular humans who exist in a supernatural world and
know about the supernatural world and are like, look, I'm
not trying to fight for or against I'm just a
guy trying to live my life.

Speaker 2 (58:53):
Like I love that.

Speaker 1 (58:53):
He's like, I have a bar, and you know, there's
a lot of demons in this town that looking for
a place to drink. So I turned my eyes the
other way. If they come in, if they patronize my bar,
Is that how you say that? If they come in,
if they patronize my bar, like, no skin off my nose,
I'm not going to report it to the police. I'm

(59:15):
not going to report it to the Watcher's council.

Speaker 2 (59:17):
It is what it is.

Speaker 1 (59:18):
If they tell me something about where an ancient relic is,
maybe they told me, maybe they didn't. As long as
they tip, I don't really care. Like I find that.

Speaker 3 (59:27):
Yeah, I agree, and like he probably fucks Angel, I
know it.

Speaker 2 (59:32):
I agree. Honestly, I think you're really onto something.

Speaker 3 (59:35):
There right, like they had a vibe.

Speaker 1 (59:38):
Yeah, no, I agree. That was just pre Buffy days
when before she came to town.

Speaker 3 (59:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (59:47):
Speaking of Angel, something really new and different for me
is that he was pissing me off this episode.

Speaker 3 (59:53):
Whoa, that's so new and different.

Speaker 4 (59:56):
I wonder.

Speaker 3 (59:57):
Okay, I'm back on the I have to jump back
to this train. I'm so sorry, but I wonder if
you know, because he's got a conscience, it has to
be a willing participant for him to get fresh warm blood.

Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
And they're like agree, it's like, oh, it's your kink.
Therefore at the ethically, he said, you're giving me enthusiastic consent. Okay,
let's go.

Speaker 3 (01:00:14):
I love that. That's so fun. Okay, sorry I had
to say that, Please go back.

Speaker 2 (01:00:20):
I agree.

Speaker 1 (01:00:21):
It's he's like, it's not that I won't drink human blood,
it's that I need enthusiastic consent.

Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
He's like a lot of people are consent.

Speaker 2 (01:00:28):
Yeah, exactly, A lot of people aren't into that.

Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
Yeah, my god, I love.

Speaker 2 (01:00:32):
That consent King. Hear me out.

Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
Angel pisses me off, but consent King, and I real
recognize real shout out to that.

Speaker 3 (01:00:40):
He may be a psycho pervert. He may be dating
a sixteen year old, but boys, he can ask is
this okay?

Speaker 1 (01:00:51):
Points to Angel one forgetting Willie's consent before sucking his
blood and also have his sexual sex with him.

Speaker 3 (01:01:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:01:08):
I like Angel getting consent before sucking Willy's blood and cock.
I like that he takes Buffy to the ice skating rink.
I generally think that's very.

Speaker 2 (01:01:16):
Sweet that he like sees a picture of her in
her Dorothy Hamil face.

Speaker 1 (01:01:22):
Yes, genuinely, I think that moment is very sweet. What
pissed me off was the conversation leading up to him
being like, oh, we should go ice skating, where Buffy
is processing a lot, is processing like I'm not going
to have a normal future. I might not even have

(01:01:42):
a future, and Angel is making the entire thing about him.
I'm trying to find oh he is being First of all,
she comes into her room and he's already there, ye,
just poking around, creep. And then she's very upset. She's

(01:02:03):
clearly really upset about something. Yeah, and he asks her
what's going on, and then she says the long and
short of it is, I want a normal life like
I had before. And then he goes before me, dude, shut.

Speaker 2 (01:02:19):
The fuck up.

Speaker 1 (01:02:20):
You know that's not what she means, literally, like she
has so much going on, and for him to be
all like a pity party, Oh my gosh, you hate
me and I'm ruining your life. And then she says
to him like, no, that's not what I mean. You're
actually like the only thing in my new freaky life
that I like and make sense.

Speaker 3 (01:02:39):
Only freaky thing in my freaky world that still makes
sense to me exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:02:45):
And she says, I wish that we could be regular kids. Yeah,
and then his response is, ugh, I'll never be a kid.
Shut up, shut it's literally it is so annoying. Just
let her talk validate her feelings. You're stop turning right,
stop turning everything onto like, well, actually I'm the victim.

Speaker 3 (01:03:07):
Dating him would be so fucking exhausting.

Speaker 1 (01:03:10):
You have to hold his hand anytime you want to
vent about anything. Yes, you have to hold his hand
and tell him that it's okay because you are going
through something.

Speaker 3 (01:03:18):
That pisses me off so bad. Because this girl has
the weight of the world on her shoulders, like she
has to like does he not understand that? Like why
does he think that he is the most important thing
in her world? And of course, like, you know, the
way you drink water is so funny.

Speaker 1 (01:03:40):
It's because I don't want to have to wash the
bottle every day. I like to watch it, you know,
like every few days, and so I waterfall it so
it never touches my lips so that it doesn't get nasty.

Speaker 3 (01:03:51):
But it's so funny and it's fine with the waterfall.
But you you are brave.

Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
You are brave.

Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
Can you dump that ship?

Speaker 5 (01:04:02):
Like?

Speaker 3 (01:04:02):
It's not like I've seen like, and I guess you're
really experienced.

Speaker 1 (01:04:05):
I got a big mouth and a live throat looking
sometimes I wonder if my mom still listens to this.

Speaker 3 (01:04:17):
She does that?

Speaker 7 (01:04:19):
Sorry mom, you, Oh my god, that was so funny.

Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
Ship.

Speaker 3 (01:04:37):
What the hell was I saying.

Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
That The way that I drink water is very brave?
It's what you were saying.

Speaker 3 (01:04:42):
Yeah, it's exit and you know what. And on that note,
thanks all for what for listening.

Speaker 1 (01:04:47):
And prior to that, you were talking about how dating
Angel is exhausting because this girl has the weight of
the world on her shoulders.

Speaker 3 (01:04:52):
Thank you, Okay, she's the weight of the world on
her shoulders. Like he doesn't get that. He genuinely thinks
that he is, And I think it just shows how
I think Angel's a narcissist.

Speaker 1 (01:05:08):
I honestly, this is such a this is an accurate take.

Speaker 3 (01:05:12):
Yeah, of course, I don't think this is a hot take.
I think it's lukewarm at best. Like obviously he cares
about her, but only insomuch as, like you know, like
he only cares about like what she thinks about him.
He's like, you know, cares about her safety to a

(01:05:32):
certain extent, but like not in the way that's like
that like a person should care about you. And especially
like this girl is going to school every day, she
has like this job that is so labor intensive, no union,
and he just.

Speaker 1 (01:05:52):
Always to start one day.

Speaker 3 (01:05:55):
God for him to say like before you met me,
it's like, no, bitch, are you kidding? Like you're the
world like least of her worries and you just want
to hear her say it, yes, and also do you
want to beat something that worries her? Because also you
do you treat her like shit? Like and also like
to watch her And they have such a nice moment

(01:06:18):
in this episode, but like this is like one of
the only nice moments they've well they've had a few,
but like mostly it's been like really tumultuous, and because
like Angel is so fucking whiny and she has to
carry the emotional weight for both of them, and he's like, uh,
it's so awful for me that I'm attracted to a
sixteen year old. I'm so so awful, and like, don't

(01:06:40):
you hate me? And it's like, what is she supposed
to say to that? What is she supposed to fucking
say to that? Did you see what Stevie nick said
about Mariah Carey? And can I find this video?

Speaker 2 (01:06:56):
What? Oh? And NICKI Minaj And yeah, did you see that?
I did actually hear about this?

Speaker 3 (01:07:00):
Okay, well, I mean I saw it on I really.

Speaker 1 (01:07:03):
Thought you were about to tell me that Stevie Nicks
had said something about Angel, and I was like, I
actually can't wait.

Speaker 5 (01:07:11):
Stevie Nicks is so mad. Yeah, she's living Stevie Nicks
decided she was going to get in the phrase she
wants to get in the weeds with everybody, and she
told the Daily Quote, if I had been Rayah, I
would have walked over to Nikki and strangled her to
do death right there going. I would have killed her

(01:07:33):
in front of all those people and had to go
to jail for it.

Speaker 2 (01:07:38):
I mean, at least she's thinking it through.

Speaker 5 (01:07:40):
She's realizing that if she actually does kill someone strangle
them in front of a bunch of people, her chances
of getting.

Speaker 2 (01:07:45):
Off were not good.

Speaker 3 (01:07:47):
So I admired that all I'm sayings that was me
to Angel.

Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
If you had said I would have killed her, I wish.

Speaker 1 (01:07:58):
We could be regular kids, And he said, I'll not
be a kid. You would have strangled him in front
of all of them. You would have killed him and
had to go to jail. You just said, your first
day's law enforcement, Buffy is today, because I'm about to
kill your boyfriend.

Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
Arrest me, arrest me.

Speaker 3 (01:08:16):
It's for your good, a Buffy Jesus. Also, on the
other side of this, I love the ice rink scenes
so much. I think it's so wonderful that he would
like plan this evening for them to do something that
she loves so much, and then they have this really
sweet moment and listen, I think it's hot and I
think it's sweet. I love them kissing when he's in

(01:08:37):
vamp face.

Speaker 2 (01:08:40):
It's Willie over here. Damn.

Speaker 3 (01:08:42):
If thinking vampires are hot and wanting to bite their
cocks is illegal, girl, I'm kidding, I'm kidding. You can
cut that if wanting to if I wanted to kiss
vampires is illegal, arrest me. There's an ault for you.

Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
Give give me another as.

Speaker 3 (01:09:05):
If wanting vampires to feed on me and bite my
cock is legal.

Speaker 2 (01:09:10):
Arrest me. It will decide im post which we're going with.

Speaker 3 (01:09:15):
Let me know which one, which one goes, goes best. No,
but I love the scene so much. I think it's
so sweet. And also it's the guy of the sentry
to watch this large man and this tiny woman make
out like with a dead body right next to them.
I love that shot so much.

Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
Also, like.

Speaker 1 (01:09:35):
Buffy, one is like the Order of Taraka, like worst
for I've ever come against.

Speaker 2 (01:09:41):
I'm so nervous.

Speaker 1 (01:09:43):
She kills that guy so like, skates up, grabs a post,
sizes her throat with her skate bad ask me to
kill someone bad.

Speaker 3 (01:09:50):
Oh my god, this one was that one? She fights dirty?

Speaker 2 (01:09:54):
I like it. But also he doesn't turn to dust. No.
I was like, no, how do you know that?

Speaker 1 (01:10:01):
That wasn't just like a human man who is like
hopped up on something kills him.

Speaker 2 (01:10:07):
He's dead.

Speaker 1 (01:10:08):
And then they're like, well, anyways, what were we doing?
Let's kiss again. It was crazy to me that they're
kissing over that dead money.

Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
She is very paranoid. She assumes that everyone is, and
like he's like, who is that random girl? They don't
even know each other.

Speaker 1 (01:10:26):
The way that Oz doesn't know any member of the
student body other than Cordelia, Chase and his friend and
his band. Hey, Devin, I think it's Devin.

Speaker 2 (01:10:34):
Is his name?

Speaker 3 (01:10:35):
Beats me? No? So funny.

Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
It's like, is he knew I believe that has been
there forever.

Speaker 1 (01:10:45):
You would think that, like if he was going to
school with them for ten years. Yeah, they would be like, oh,
I know we're not friends, but like I recognize that kid.

Speaker 2 (01:10:53):
I don't know, maybe he is.

Speaker 3 (01:10:54):
Yeah, maybe I don't think they mentioned that, but like
even still, I guess there were kids in my school
who like, genuinely I never knew them or interacted with them,
but I at least like was not surprised to have
seen them and be like, who the fuck are you?

Speaker 1 (01:11:12):
You know yeah, which famously that's what Oz keeps saying.
That's like his catchphrases every time, who the fuck are you?

Speaker 3 (01:11:24):
But he is like this girl, no, and this one
is this is specific though she has been in the
same town her whole life. She's gone to school with
all of these people. She has memories with Cordela, she
has memories with the court Att, she has memories with Xander.
Like she is, you know, a staple in this music,

(01:11:44):
of course, so I think it is weird for Oz
not to know her.

Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
I agree, Okay, I do. I hate to be me.
I have to use the bathroom so bad. So if
you don't have any strong Oz thoughts before we switch topics,
I will take this moment to take a little break.

Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
Do you have a strong ass thought?

Speaker 3 (01:12:04):
My strong ass thought was I thought it was funny
that Buffy choked him out, and I also I was
thrilled to see the Buffy and Willow and Ozma.

Speaker 2 (01:12:15):
I hate that we don't see what happens next.

Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
I mean, obviously, like next episode we're gonna follow up,
but we see him offer a canip and cut scene
and girl, I've been waiting for this for like four
episodes and.

Speaker 3 (01:12:27):
I love a multi episode or that's a slow burn.
Mama s all right, okay, you're good, biss girl.

Speaker 1 (01:12:39):
What do we talk about next? We haven't talked a
lot about Kendra. The thing is like, how much can
we release say about because she's just a misdirect in
this episode.

Speaker 2 (01:12:48):
Basically, and I love that.

Speaker 1 (01:12:52):
Yeah, yes, so stay tuned for Kendra Part two, as
the French call it.

Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
Next week. We will talk more about our thoughts, like Kendra.

Speaker 3 (01:13:04):
Oh, that French did call it that? I was like,
some what do you mean?

Speaker 2 (01:13:08):
It's just what I say about stuff as the French
call it.

Speaker 3 (01:13:12):
Wait, that's such a fucking if. I like, if you
did that, like just randomly be like, you know, as
a French call it. This is a remote like just
say shit.

Speaker 1 (01:13:20):
I used to This is a bit that I used
to do and I had to retire it because people
kept earnestly giving me translations for stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:13:28):
I used to be like, I'm so exhausted, like.

Speaker 1 (01:13:33):
I would say as like a filler word.

Speaker 2 (01:13:38):
And then that's really funny, and.

Speaker 1 (01:13:40):
Then people would be like, oh, Gonzalo, and I'm like,
I wasn't actually like I was doing a bit like
it's just.

Speaker 3 (01:13:44):
Stupid, Like actually, I know I speak Spanish, so I'm
not freaking stupid moron.

Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
I know how to say tired in Spanish.

Speaker 3 (01:13:55):
I think I know more about American calls. You have
to pick that back up. That is fucking funny.

Speaker 1 (01:14:02):
And my thing was like, if I was speaking the
whole sentence in Spanish and then said colmost to the
saint said in English, that's a genuine question. Yeah, like
why would I say the entire sentence in English? And
then the last would be like, how do you say this?
It was a bit, It was a joke. I did
it for the love of the game.

Speaker 3 (01:14:19):
I famously like don't get a lot of bits sometimes,
but I feel like I got that. So that's hat on.

Speaker 2 (01:14:24):
A hat, thank you.

Speaker 3 (01:14:26):
Fuck I haven't said phony it at all.

Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
You better start.

Speaker 1 (01:14:33):
We we can talk about the guy who makes himself bugs,
which is who you're named after. Honestly, Oogie Boogie from
Nightmre before Christmas.

Speaker 2 (01:14:41):
Realness.

Speaker 3 (01:14:43):
Also, I'd fall for this in a fucking second.

Speaker 1 (01:14:48):
It is so fucking suspicious him knocking on the door
and saying, I'm not selling anything.

Speaker 2 (01:14:54):
I only have free shit. That man's either gonna rob
you or kill you.

Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
I'm sorry, that is such a red flag he's he
came and he was body painted red. He had a
big flashing sign behind him that said murderer. And he said,
I just want to come inside your house where you're alone,
so I can give you free stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:15:14):
I love free stuff and especially skin. What was the
beauty care like, Hi, I'm with beauty queen care like
I literally don't even fucking know. And no, I would
fall for this in a second. No, I hope not.
I don't like letting people in the house, but Jesus,
I love free stuff. This was thrilling and also like
a random freaky boogie boogey man flashing light that says murderer.

(01:15:37):
I hope I wouldn't, but I love free stuff. This
guy freaked me the fuck out, and I you know,
there's this part too where Giles is explaining the Order
of Taraka and he's like, they can be demons, they
can be vampire like, they can be men, they can
be something else, just looking for a check and that's
all they want, and it's he's saying that over top

(01:15:59):
of you, seeing that.

Speaker 2 (01:16:01):
This guy is bugs, guy who is bugs.

Speaker 1 (01:16:06):
He said they can be demons, they can be humans,
they can be the guy who is bugs.

Speaker 3 (01:16:12):
And he literally said that this guy is bugs. Oh
this guy makes me sick. And I mean, listen, all
God's creatures in this house. We serve the Lord and
all God's creatures.

Speaker 1 (01:16:25):
When God assembles a choir of his creatures, will the
guy was not among the chorus.

Speaker 3 (01:16:35):
Hello, all this is say. I have respect for bugs,
but I hated this motherfucker.

Speaker 1 (01:16:45):
I also, this guy is so much creepier to me
than mister Frankenstein, who gets off in Iceland. I keep saying, Iceland, Iceland.

Speaker 3 (01:16:56):
I know exactly what you meant, exactly what you go.

Speaker 1 (01:16:59):
To Ice Flint, They go to Reikie Vick, they go
to that mud bath, you know, the one not the
natural Saana.

Speaker 2 (01:17:05):
Of course, I have a hair in my mouth. Girl,
I don't have time for this.

Speaker 1 (01:17:15):
Okay, whatever, we're just gonna move past it.

Speaker 3 (01:17:25):
You're being made of bugs.

Speaker 1 (01:17:26):
Now, I'm made of bugs now. So this guy is
so creepy. Mister mussel Frankenstein, what like him not going
after Buffy, but instead going to her next door neighbor's house.
The whole like the neighbor being like, oh it's free,
come on in door shuts. Five seconds we hear the

(01:17:48):
neighbors scream, and then him just setting up shop in
her house, watching Buffy's house through the window while her
corpse is on the ground.

Speaker 2 (01:17:58):
That is Bookie. I'm obsessed. I love that.

Speaker 3 (01:18:01):
No, I know. Giles says that these people will do anything.
They're killing anyone. This random woman who just like skincare
and free stuff. Poor thing rest in peace to a legend.

Speaker 1 (01:18:14):
Yes, and Cordelia Chase fell for it too, diva. Oh well,
that of course she let them in.

Speaker 3 (01:18:20):
She let him in to have both of the men,
the adults in Buffy's life be like, I think you
should skip down. Oh my god, that's terrifying. Mm hmm,
that's terrifying. They're like, I don't think you can. I
don't think like, maybe just get out of town. It's like,
what do you fucking mean, Giles, Are you gonna take

(01:18:40):
her out of town? Are you just telling her to
get lost? Like what are you fucking talking about?

Speaker 2 (01:18:45):
Angel?

Speaker 3 (01:18:46):
You're just gonna disappear and go bite Willie's cock and
then get got by this gorgeous woman, Like, are you
kidding your girlfriend? You just told her to get out
of town and now no one can get a hold
of her.

Speaker 1 (01:19:00):
It is also funny to me that Kendra spares Angel's life.
It was like the plot armor of Kendra is not
gonna steake Angel.

Speaker 2 (01:19:08):
She's just gonna lock him in a cell.

Speaker 3 (01:19:10):
Kind of trabola cole of her. That's a that's a
divacause she wants the sun to get him. Yeah, I
love that.

Speaker 2 (01:19:19):
Do we have big final thoughts on this episode?

Speaker 3 (01:19:21):
Big final thoughts? Obviously a lot of these stones are
only half turned, so we'll talk about the rest next week.
So I think I think I don't have any big
thoughts that can't be addressed next week. That's what I think.

Speaker 1 (01:19:34):
Principal Snyder says to Xander, whatever comes out of your
mouth is a meaningless waste of breath, an airborne toxic event.
Oh god, that.

Speaker 3 (01:19:43):
Is that's the Native century, an airborne toxic event. That's
if someone said that to me, I would die.

Speaker 2 (01:19:50):
I love that is that part one?

Speaker 3 (01:19:53):
I think? So what's my line? What am I going
to be when I grow up?

Speaker 1 (01:19:56):
I don't know well and part one. Also, this is
our Halloween episode. I literally didn't clockett Halloween's and two
days it is Happy Halloween kids, Queen.

Speaker 3 (01:20:05):
Oh my gosh, we talked about Halloween last week, but.

Speaker 1 (01:20:08):
Here, No, we did a lot of Halloween in our
episode on Halloween, so like, listen to that again.

Speaker 3 (01:20:13):
Yeah, but it's also Halloween's month long. So if you
have more Halloween celebrations this week, I'll tell you again.
Party hard, party safe, mm hmm, watch scary movie if
you're so inclined. I love Halloween. I hope you guys
have so much fun.

Speaker 2 (01:20:28):
Part Lena, who's your best part of this episode?

Speaker 3 (01:20:36):
I don't want to tell you my best part? Well
what if I told you my worst part?

Speaker 2 (01:20:38):
Girl? You're so right, Lena? What was your worst part
of this episode?

Speaker 3 (01:20:44):
Thanks? Next time? Come correct? What the worst part of
this episode? Oh, I'm going to say before you do, Angel,
it was what you were gonna say. Uh oh, well
that's really but it is what I'm gonna say. Angel.
I'm gonna I'm gonna strangle you and have to go

(01:21:06):
to jail for it. Buffy, your law enforcement career starts early,
Like he really was just making me mad. And all
of this comes with him being also handsome and one
of my favorite Angel moments ever. Like I love the
ice skating stuff, but I just think like him making

(01:21:28):
everything about him when Buffy is so clearly struggling, it's
just like not what she needs. I think, like what
she needs in a partner is like support, and like,
obviously she has the emotional bandwidth to be there for someone,
but in these moments, like to just like be there
for someone goes such a long way and to listen

(01:21:51):
to them, but to like make everything be like oh
maybe we can't.

Speaker 2 (01:21:59):
Yeah, like I make your lengthe worse.

Speaker 3 (01:22:01):
It's like, yeah, you are making her life worse because
now she has to like grapple with your feelings about
her life and her feelings about you. Where it's like
don't you want to like support her and lift her up? Bitch? No,
he's pussing me off. Then what is your worst part?

Speaker 1 (01:22:18):
I love you, Diva Kendra's accent girl. It's crazy she
only spoke like two lines.

Speaker 2 (01:22:25):
Yeah I know, and the two lines were nuts. Okay,
what's your best part?

Speaker 3 (01:22:32):
Obviously? I really enjoy this episode. I think Xander say
an acap even still I think I'm going to give Xander.
If I'm ever gonna give Xander a flower, I think
it's I'm going to give it here. Like I like
Sander's character for what I'm seeing for real right now. Obviously,
like you said, he hits on his friend's weird he does,

(01:22:56):
and I'm going to say it. And this isn't a
spoiler because everyone is going to talk about this online
if you like are in the Buffy sphere. He does
things in the future that I don't agree with and
make me mad, but I have to take him at
face value now and right now he is making me laugh.
And also like, I feel like I see what his
character is doing and I like him in this episode

(01:23:16):
and especially in a career aptitude thing like this is
lie loser shit and I love this stuff, you know,
and I feel like I don't know and even in general,
like what am I going to be when I grow up?
Plus I don't know. I love this episode, but a
cap Sorry, what's what's your best part?

Speaker 1 (01:23:35):
Uh? My best part is I love the Something's Coming
montage not West Side Story, when Giles talks about like, oh,
something bad is on its way and then we have
Frankenstein getting off the bus, and we have the guy
who makes himself bugs knocking on the neighbor's door, and
we have Kendrick getting off the plane. It's incredibly effective.

(01:23:57):
It's very very exciting. I think it's fantastic. It's very cinematic.

Speaker 3 (01:24:03):
I agree. If I can give a gentleman's tip of
the hat, I would say the switcheroo that is learning
that Kendra is not like an assassin and she's actually
a vampire slayer. I like that is so gaggy, Like
I love that, and I love Kendra, so I'm glad
she's here.

Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
Yeah, what is your.

Speaker 4 (01:24:25):
Part?

Speaker 7 (01:24:29):
Is the.

Speaker 3 (01:24:36):
Oh, I hear what you're doing?

Speaker 2 (01:24:49):
He's part.

Speaker 3 (01:24:57):
You already know what I'm going to say.

Speaker 2 (01:24:59):
Oh yeah, yeah, it's a good one.

Speaker 3 (01:25:03):
I genuinely get the sense that Willie Is likes likes
to be fed on.

Speaker 2 (01:25:14):
Oh yeah, And I.

Speaker 3 (01:25:16):
Get the sense that if Angel were to feed on people,
it would have to be through enthusiastic consent. And I
literally I watched I watched that part of the episode
and I was like thrilled the idea. So I don't
know if other people saw that, but I think that
that I love that. Sorry, I was having fun. I
think that's like my game is part of the episode.

Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
What your oh my gosh? Is that the theme to
John Carpenter's Halloween?

Speaker 3 (01:25:40):
Twas twas oh my gosh, I say instantly to be
misconstrued with clocks.

Speaker 2 (01:25:48):
Maybe what song were you thinking of singing for me?

Speaker 3 (01:25:53):
Be it all begin and goes?

Speaker 2 (01:25:57):
Do I you're just singing Halloween? I know, I know,
But I think I know.

Speaker 1 (01:26:04):
I think I know what you're talking about. I can
like almost hear it. I think I know you're talking about.

Speaker 3 (01:26:09):
Should I play it for just you and not for
the podcast?

Speaker 2 (01:26:11):
No, let's move forward, because I gotta go. I gotta go.

Speaker 1 (01:26:14):
So of course, my gayest part, okay, everyone hear me
out is Kentra's accent.

Speaker 4 (01:26:23):
It does.

Speaker 1 (01:26:23):
It's so bad. It is camp and just like things
that are so. I felt the same way about Buffy's
accent and Halloween. I felt like it was very gay.
I feel similar about Rucilla's accent. I feel similar about
the special effects in this episode. I mean, not this episode,
the special effects in this TV show. Sometimes camp is

(01:26:45):
in art form. Sometimes when something is so like, what
on earth how did this get past pre production? It
then becomes iconic. Do I think that Kendra's accent is
probably problematic?

Speaker 2 (01:26:59):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (01:26:59):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (01:27:01):
Is it also iconic in the sense that anytime anyone
thinks of the character Kendra, they immediately think.

Speaker 2 (01:27:07):
Of this accent.

Speaker 3 (01:27:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:27:09):
Also yes, yeah, and for those reasons, it is my
gayest part of the episode.

Speaker 3 (01:27:15):
I love that I'm hearing you.

Speaker 2 (01:27:17):
Hey, hey, well hey, that's what's my line? Part one.

Speaker 1 (01:27:22):
Tune in for part two next week. Oh my gosh,
can't wait to learn learn more about our queen ken draw.
In the meantime, follow us on socials, go to Instagram
and TikTok at our two presents.

Speaker 2 (01:27:35):
Let to scare a podcast.

Speaker 3 (01:27:38):
Uh, before we get too far, we got a kill
KNT of three in this episode.

Speaker 2 (01:27:42):
Oh girl, I even have it in my notes, like
keep forgetting, thank you so much?

Speaker 3 (01:27:45):
Okay, of course, so we uh, Buffy stakes a vampire.
Her name is missus Callish. According to Buffy WICKI killed
by Norman.

Speaker 2 (01:27:54):
Fist is Calish is the neighbor.

Speaker 3 (01:27:57):
Yeah, of course That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (01:27:59):
Yeah, yeah, no, so the vamp hire the mausoleum is
separate and then the neighbor is Okay, from on my end,
maybe it's my internet connection. It sounded like you said
she kills a vampire at the mausoleum. Her name is
miss Callish.

Speaker 3 (01:28:10):
Oh no, no, no, no, I'm sorry if that's not clear.
A vampire killed by Buffy. And then missus Callish, that's
her name killed by. His name is Norman Fister, Guy
made a bug.

Speaker 1 (01:28:23):
That's his nickname. If you check his idea, it says
the guy who can make himself bugs. Well, of course,
like when it would be in a class, they'd be
like THEO here, the guy who can make himself bugs. Actually,
could you call me Norman Fisher here? No, no, mama Fister,

(01:28:45):
can you call me Norman Fister?

Speaker 2 (01:28:47):
Gayest part I know?

Speaker 3 (01:28:52):
I okay? And then the Frankenstein. His name is Octrus
Octurus hell act us slip by Buffy with an ice
skate blade. Hell yeah, hell yeah, okay. Please follow us

being here everyone.

Speaker 1 (01:31:16):
If you have thoughts about this episode, send them to
Recovering Gleek at gmail dot com. Emails, emails, emails, emails, email.
That's a song that I hired a Grammy Award winner
who wanted to remain anonymous, anonymous part of me to
write for a podcast about emails. They've been working on

(01:31:37):
it for months from months and months and months.

Speaker 3 (01:31:39):
Thirty dollars if you can guess who did.

Speaker 2 (01:31:41):
It, and it's not who you think. But what's more
important is that we're here to read emails.

Speaker 3 (01:31:48):
All right, Let's kick things off with a message from Claire.
Where's Claire?

Speaker 2 (01:31:55):
Do you get that a lot. Claire. We's Claire, did you?

Speaker 1 (01:32:00):
I think you asked this When we read Claire's initial email,
I love myself and Claire didn't tell us, So Claire,
please tell us if you get that a love. So
Claire recently sent in the email asking, you know, Buffy
and Angel are they boyfriend and girlfriend? Because like, that
feels weird, but also they've been seeing each other and

(01:32:20):
it's never been specified, and did.

Speaker 2 (01:32:21):
They ever have a DTR?

Speaker 1 (01:32:23):
And then we were like, weird that Claire's a DTR
because that feels very Mormon to us. Here is Claire's response,
Dearlean and Anne, they did not DTR. We have confirmation
in this episode that they're not boyfriend and girlfriend, but
also they're in love for me personally, that would not fly.
I need to know where I stand, especially if I'm

(01:32:45):
going to confess my undying love for someone. As for
the term DTR, I don't know that I've ever actually
heard it used in my day to day life, but
it seemed appropriate for the situation at hand. Now that
you point it out, though, I can see how the
Mormons would love it. I was raised unitary, universal, which
is probably about the furthest away he can get from Mormonism.
I don't know if there are any Monk fans out there.

(01:33:06):
I imagine the Monk Buffy crossover is not that large,
But for anyone like me sitting at that intersection, it's
Kevin Dorfmann as Diego in lie to me. Every time
I watch this episode, I get a little surprised when
I hear Diego speak, And remember he plays Kevin Monk's
annoying and yet endearing upstairs neighbor. I like to imagine
that Diego, after surviving his horrifying ordeal in Sunnydale, moves

(01:33:28):
up to San Francisco. He decides he's going to have
a more normy life, embraces the annoying nerd he is,
and accompanies Monk on some of his cases until he
meets his untimely death at the hands of an evil magician.
He does keep his little vampire cape for his own
amateur magic shows though. Anyways, I had one more relevant
anecdote to share. Last weekend, I got to see the

(01:33:50):
Immersive into the Woods on Staten Island and it was incredible.
We sat around a campfire and then they led us
through the woods as the sun was setting. They actual
would pop up at various spots along the trail for
their scenes, or sometimes run through our group as they're
looking for the items. The best part, though, was when
we would stop near some of the regular people that
were doing their little camping thing at this boy Scout
camp and you could see them looking at us trying

(01:34:12):
to figure out what was happening. I hope they do
this again next year because this is how Into the
Wood should be performed. Much love, Claire, Claire, I'm so
jealous but also happy for you because that production I
saw clips on TikTok looked awesome as hell. I love
big swings in theater. We need to be doing more
big swings, immersive. Everything done a million times, do it

(01:34:36):
a weird way.

Speaker 3 (01:34:39):
Especially like with shows that have been done a million times,
Do it a weird way, like this fucking fun. I'm
sick of replica.

Speaker 2 (01:34:46):
Anything goes.

Speaker 1 (01:34:47):
We go on that little we get a booze cruise
through the Hudson River and.

Speaker 2 (01:34:52):
We see anything goes. I would come on so much.

Speaker 1 (01:34:59):
Hey now, Claire, the Monk Buffy crossover, that's me. I
have never seen Love Monk starring Tony Shalou, but girl
Monk is fun as a hell.

Speaker 2 (01:35:16):
That was me and my dad's ritual when I was
in high school.

Speaker 1 (01:35:20):
Is this back when Netflix would mail you DVDs and
there was no streaming. Every month we would get another
DVD of Monk and we would eat cheese and watch
it together.

Speaker 2 (01:35:34):
So we watched the entire show.

Speaker 3 (01:35:37):
That's wonderful.

Speaker 1 (01:35:38):
I do think that since Lie to Me, they've maybe
had a DTR because I feel like in episodes, like
I feel like in what's my line, and then also
in next week's episode, they tend to be pretty clearly
what very girlfriend? So I think maybe after Lie to Me,
they were like, we need to have a conversation about this.

Speaker 3 (01:35:59):
Maybe I'm missed from membering, but I feel like something
very clear happens where Buffy is like he's her boyfriend,
but she's not his girlfriend, Like.

Speaker 1 (01:36:13):
She says that, she says that. I think that's what
That's what Claire is referring to. But they did not
do tr okay, got it, got it? But like Angel
taking her ice skating, like that's boyfriend behavior. I just
feel like maybe something has happened since then off screen.

Speaker 3 (01:36:33):
I wish we would have seen the DTR, though, Hey,
like did he get her flowers. Was it just kind
of like.

Speaker 2 (01:36:41):
Like you think Angel did something romantic?

Speaker 3 (01:36:43):
No? God, I love to hope. God, I love to hope. Claire,
thank you so much for this message. Let's hear an
email from.

Speaker 1 (01:36:53):
Iira this email about the Dark Age. Hey, Diva's I'm
currently in the trenches of midterm season, but I thought
i'd paused to share some minor thoughts on this episode.
It's so satisfying that they let Jenny and Giles kiss
after the school bell rang.

Speaker 2 (01:37:08):
Usually they would.

Speaker 1 (01:37:08):
Stop and leave us hanging, but they went for it,
and I love that. I love the small few moments
of Xander acknowledging how smart Willow is in this episode.
That's his bestie for real. Love love, love how they
make use of the ensemble. None of our normy scoobies
had their own individual plot in this episode, yet they
all still had stuff to do and there were fun

(01:37:28):
moments that highlighted each of them.

Speaker 2 (01:37:31):
Finally, not to be parasocial. Beale's friendship is so sweet.
The Buffy slash.

Speaker 1 (01:37:36):
Formerly Glee of it All is honestly such a nice
bonus in addition to your dynamic, a sentiment that many
listeners share. It is truly so special. I genuinely have
you guys to thank for entertaining me through many boring
commutes to school and much more for the past few years.
I can't believe you're almost midway through season too already
many heavy hitters coming up, and I can't wait.

Speaker 2 (01:37:56):
Much love, I rushy her from Canada and.

Speaker 6 (01:38:00):
Listen.

Speaker 1 (01:38:03):
Yes, I watched Buffy on Disney Plus and I don't
know if this is the case for other streaming services,
but I find it hilarious that some episode thumbnail, that
some episode thumbnails are literally just the actors serving face,
not even stills of the characters. It's truly bonkers, but
it definitely adds to the show's charm. I've attached examples.

Speaker 3 (01:38:23):
Iira. I know that this has only happened in the
last couple of weeks.

Speaker 2 (01:38:28):
Was it not the case before?

Speaker 3 (01:38:29):
No, it was not. They had a screen graun from
all the episodes, and it usually was Xander Harris in
all the screen grabs. I swear to god, there were
several episodes that I skipped because it was just a
screen crab Sander, even if it wasn't like Exander centered episode.
All this to say, I have paid attention to this,
and this has only changed in the last few weeks.

(01:38:50):
I don't know what's all of them, but they are
usually like they're usually like promo pictures.

Speaker 1 (01:38:55):
Yeah, it's like when they get the cast together at
the beginning of each season and they take promo pictures.

Speaker 2 (01:38:59):
That's exactly what it is. Yeah, I don't know, I do.
I clocked this too.

Speaker 1 (01:39:05):
I was watching I usually watched it on Hulu, and
then for whatever reason a few weeks ago, I had
to watch it on Disney Plus and I did clock this.
I was like, what the hell is going on here?
I know, it's just sexy shots of the cast for
every single episode. Someone at Disney Plus HQ is like,
they stills ain't sexy enough. They don't want to know
what's going on in the episode. They don't want any

(01:39:27):
context for the episode. They want to see smising. Yeah,
they want to see them blue stealing for every episode.
That's what's important.

Speaker 3 (01:39:36):
Eggzig and frankly, they were right. They were right, And honestly,
I love It's a it's a diva off honestly, but
back to you loving our friendship. I'm glad that people
feel this way because I love it too. And that
is like my favorite thing ever is to share our
relationship with people and also to cultivate yours and eyes relationship.

(01:39:57):
In this way, I feel like we're having so much f.

Speaker 2 (01:40:01):
I agree. I love you too.

Speaker 3 (01:40:04):
I'm very glad that we're doing this. Me too, five
years strong, Baby, I know what if we did forever,
we might we might well. Thank you, Ira, thank you
so much for this message, and thank you for listening.
I'm glad you're I'm glad you're having fun with us.
Up next, let's hear from Joseph, shall we.

Speaker 1 (01:40:23):
This email is titled light to Me is iconic an
essay hey from Sweden, but it is spelled the Swedish
version ahaj International listener, This is Joseph, and I'm writing
in because I have so many thoughts after binging through
the season two coverage. Firstly, I am so tickled by

(01:40:44):
the fact that Cordelia got a Sweden exchange student and
treated it like a ninety day fiance. English is taught
alongside Swedish in school and most people speak both fluently. Okay, Now,
for the main reason I wanted to write in the
Vampire Slayers, he's in two, episode seven, Light to Me.
I have to give her full name treatment because I

(01:41:05):
love and cherish this episode so hard. Prophecy Girl is
a cute girl. Schoolheard gets me hard. Those are fine, Bubby.
The Vampire Slayer Season two, episode seven, Lie to Me
is to me where the series truly begins. We become
so used to the idea of vampires, ghules, and the

(01:41:25):
supernatural supernatural, and then you get hit with the actual
wickedness of humanity, or rather the complexity of good and evil.
Ford is giving his best interview with the vampire drag
because gaining immortality is his only quote choice. It's the
same feeling of Incomummy Girl, where he knows the right

(01:41:47):
thing to do, but the wrong thing to do is
fueled by the human drive to survive. He feels like
he's getting robbed of a life, but he is taking
away others autonomy of an informed decision. The morally gray
way he corral all those lost souls into the club
is so sinister.

Speaker 2 (01:42:03):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (01:42:04):
I'm getting chills, and that final line lie to Me fierce.
I don't want to face adulthood just yet. I don't
want I don't want the world to shift from black
and white to gray. I'm just a sixteen year old girl.
Lie to me, give me a little booboo, and let
life be less complex.

Speaker 2 (01:42:24):
Please.

Speaker 1 (01:42:26):
Okay, enough gushing. I just had to write in and
praise this girly. I cannot wait until very very very
slight title spoiler episode nineteen because OMG, Glee reference writer
Linn is a buffy Head. This episode everyone is called
only have Eyes for You aka writer Lin's best song
on Glee. Ryderland is a buffy Head confirmed. It is

(01:42:49):
so unfortunate that episode eighteen right before it is my
least favorite episode of Buffy. Please convince me otherwise, because
I cringe every time I watch it. I tripped over
the standards on my way in.

Speaker 2 (01:43:00):
It was bad. It was horrid. End of sentence. One
last thought. It's Joseph.

Speaker 1 (01:43:06):
I'm gonna do my absolute best to pronounce this word
and I'm probably gonna butcher it, and my apologies to
the entire nation of Sweden. It's Lord Lord as guddis
today when I'm writing in. Because of efforts to heal
dental health in like the nineteen fifties, Swedish children were

(01:43:26):
told to only have candy on Saturdays, but you can
eat whatever you get your grubby little hands on. Most
grocery stores have a candy wall where you pick and
mix loose candy and fill a bag of candy one
hundred kroner or one kilogram anyway, what kind of candy
do you think the Buffy cast would gorge themselves on
during Lord is Goudas. I am not gonna be honest

(01:43:50):
really a candy head, of course, Like, if I'm offered candy,
I will take it, But I feel like I'm ill
equipped to answer this question that I'm I'm still going
to take a crack at it in honor of Lorda's Goudas.
Of course, I feel like Xander is giving me sour vibes.
I think he's a sour king. Do you concur or

(01:44:14):
do you feel differently?

Speaker 3 (01:44:15):
Yeah, I think that's good.

Speaker 2 (01:44:19):
I'm gonna say a warhead situation.

Speaker 1 (01:44:21):
I also feel like Xander has that toxic masculinity in
him where he's like, I want the most sour thing
possible to like prove I'm a man and I can
eat it. Let me tell you a few weeks ago,
I ate warheads. I ate warheads for the first time
in probably like seven years, and they were so like
acidic and chemical that they bruised my tongue. Bruised my tongue.

(01:44:42):
That's Xander Harris.

Speaker 3 (01:44:43):
Realness, my mouth is salivating just thinking about that. I
also think he likes probably any candy.

Speaker 2 (01:44:50):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I think he probably.

Speaker 3 (01:44:52):
Likes any candy. But yeah, I think sour for him.
I think he's definitely like a sour candy guy. I
bet he also really liked red vines. I think he
comes from a red vines family. They get like the
grapevines and the red vines in the big tub.

Speaker 2 (01:45:08):
Yeah yeah, yeah, girl, you're really onto something here.

Speaker 3 (01:45:10):
I also think he fucks. He fucks with a milk dud,
like when he goes to the movie theater. He loves
a milk dud. He loves a red vine. I think
this kid likes candy, like I think this kid likes candy. Yes,
which honestly, that's that's goaded, Like have you ever done that?
I always my favorite thing to do.

Speaker 2 (01:45:31):
Yeah, I love that.

Speaker 3 (01:45:33):
My favorite thing to do do that with is a
peanut eminem. I love a peanut emin m plus popcorn.
That's perfect to me. She's very gorgeous to me. That's
always how I do it when I get popcorn and candy.
So yeah, I think that's that's where Xander lives. I
think I think you go, oh, Cordelia, what do you think?

(01:45:58):
I was thinking. I was gonna go Willow.

Speaker 1 (01:46:01):
Cordio is the only other one that, like, I have
a hypothesis on in this moment. Okay, tell me which is.
I think Cordelia is like a lunch chocolate girl. She
loves like a pricey chocolate, you know, like a little
chocolate bars that have like caramel inside or like a
different kind of chocolate inside.

Speaker 2 (01:46:16):
I think she's looking for something a little high class, yes, yeah,
on top.

Speaker 3 (01:46:23):
Yeah, definitely, Yeah, I so agree.

Speaker 2 (01:46:27):
And like you know, she like.

Speaker 3 (01:46:30):
And she like goes to Europe over the summer and
then has chocolate here in the States and goes like
it's just not the same. It's not the same.

Speaker 1 (01:46:38):
I know, it's not the same, but like you know, yeah, yeah, no,
she's getting like the chocolate that you can only get
in Europe that they don't sell in the States.

Speaker 3 (01:46:46):
Yeah, totally. And she like goes to Los Angeles to like,
you know, like a fancy like European store and gets
fancy chocolate sometimes. Yeah, and she drives her own car
to go do it. And it's yeah, I think she's
I think she's particular, and she like chocolate.

Speaker 2 (01:47:02):
I agree, hmm.

Speaker 3 (01:47:04):
I think Willow, I think, and I say this with love,
she reminds me of my mother in the way that
my mother eats candy. My mother loves what is that
black licorice candy that's like pink and white?

Speaker 2 (01:47:22):
I do not know. I have no idea.

Speaker 3 (01:47:25):
Gosh, darn it, darn it, darn it, darn it.

Speaker 2 (01:47:27):
What is that called good and plenty?

Speaker 3 (01:47:30):
No good and plenty? She loves a good and plenty.

Speaker 2 (01:47:32):
Good and plenty? Okay, yeah, good and plenty.

Speaker 3 (01:47:35):
I think she likes a good and plenty. I can
also see her liking like a cinnamon candy as well.
Oh okay, okay, mm hmm, maybe a hot to Molly.
I also think that Buffy could like a hot to
Molly as well. But I think that in my mind,

(01:47:57):
Willow probably likes like grandma stuff like I feel like
all the Grandma's and my love life love good and plenties,
And she would also love the love your favorite kind
of candy, the strawberry, like the strawberry candies, and like
the little wrapper, the hard candies yeah yeah, or the
hard candies that are also the swirl ones, like the creams.

(01:48:20):
Do you know what I'm talking about?

Speaker 4 (01:48:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:48:22):
You think she likes like the original, Yeah, but like
the fruity kind.

Speaker 3 (01:48:28):
Yeah, but she probably likes the word's original too, and
Giles likes them too when they share.

Speaker 1 (01:48:35):
I agree that I think Buffy likes a hot to Molly.
I think Buffy likes a red hot. I from Willow.
I was like a baby bottle pop, a ring pop.
I just feel like a Willow. You know, she's got
like the Scooby lunch box. I feel like Willow is
a a little bit of a rest development. I think

(01:48:57):
she's a she is clinging on to childhood a bit,
and so I think she would like like a oh
look I'm wearing a ring or like, look I'm sipping
it like it's a bottle. I am positing that she
would like a little a novelty candy that reminds.

Speaker 2 (01:49:13):
Her of being a kid.

Speaker 8 (01:49:15):
Yeah, like the hubbububb a tape. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah,
well the band aids in the tin. Yeah, something that's
like kitchy and yeah yeah yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:49:31):
I think for I think Buffy is a sensory seeker,
kind of like Xander in this way. Like, I think
she probably likes sour candy. I think she likes a
hot to Molly. I think she loves like a sour
patch kid. I think those are probably the thing I
would like put her with the most. I also think

(01:49:53):
she likes chocolate a lot. I think she likes cotton
can at the fair, I know she. I think she
likes suckers. I think she likes gum. Oh yeah, and
she likes to pop gum. And Giles yells at her

(01:50:13):
for popping gum in the library and it drives them
crazy for her to pop gum in the library.

Speaker 2 (01:50:19):
I think Giles is where there's originals.

Speaker 3 (01:50:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:50:23):
I think Giles like likes a caramel.

Speaker 3 (01:50:25):
And like the Scottie dog, dark like black licorice, like spicy, and.

Speaker 2 (01:50:33):
And he loves a York patty.

Speaker 3 (01:50:36):
Yes, and he likes him in the fridge and he
when he puts it sounds so good.

Speaker 2 (01:50:43):
Yeah that too.

Speaker 1 (01:50:48):
Meanwhile, I think like Jenny maybe likes a candy jewelry,
like a candy necklace, a candy bracelet. I think she
maybe thinks that's fun and silly.

Speaker 2 (01:50:57):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (01:50:57):
I love that, and also like maybe candy other things
and behind the privacy closed doors, and then what is
Angel like? Oh my god, I think Angel likes black licorice.

Speaker 3 (01:51:13):
Yeah. I also I just think like Angel to Me
is so whiny that he wouldn't let himself indulge like that.

Speaker 2 (01:51:22):
Yeah. He cost to be like I'm watching my figure.

Speaker 3 (01:51:26):
Exactly, and it's like I don't think your figure can change,
dog like.

Speaker 1 (01:51:30):
And he'd be like very presentational about it too, not
just like do you want some candy? No, he'd be like,
do you want some candy?

Speaker 2 (01:51:35):
No, actually I can. I'm trying to watch what I
eat like he has like like like no, I'm keto, Yes, yes, I.

Speaker 3 (01:51:42):
Cut out sugar and grains. And it's like, okay, you're
o fun at this party Angels people cutting out sugar
and grains. I hear you. But I think Angel is
gonna make it everyone's problem my grain, that's what we think.
I think that was fun. Yeah, I agree, I'm doing that.

Speaker 2 (01:52:04):
And I agree with everything you said about Light to
Me this episode rules. I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (01:52:08):
I agree with everything you said about By the Vampire
Slayer Season two, episode seven, Light to Me this episode
is fantastic.

Speaker 2 (01:52:15):
It's very very good.

Speaker 1 (01:52:16):
And I see what you're saying about this being where
the series begins, because this is when our world shifts
to gray, and I feel like Buffy deals in the
gray a lot, and in the like learning to see
the world in all its complexities as you get older. Yeah,
so I so agree this episode rules.

Speaker 2 (01:52:38):
You're so right.

Speaker 3 (01:52:39):
I agree.

Speaker 2 (01:52:42):
But yeah, thank you all for emailing. Thank you for yeah,
send them to us, please.

Speaker 3 (01:52:50):

for you?

Speaker 1 (01:54:11):
And we could do I had this conversation with a
friend the other day. You could do like now and
then like, as a kid, what was the movie?

Speaker 7 (01:54:17):
Ooho?

Speaker 3 (01:54:21):
Okay, well now it's gotta be the Original Scream.

Speaker 2 (01:54:26):
I agree.

Speaker 3 (01:54:26):
I always recommend that movie to people who are like
interested in scary movies but maybe like not like into
like Ghules and creepiness. I always recommend the Original Scream
to people. I always also recommend, if people want to
get into Gules, the first conjuring movie. When I was

(01:54:47):
a kid, I was a fraidy cat, so genuinely, Scooby
Doo was a big one, especially the one with the
Hex Girls. I don't remember which one that was, but
the real ones will know what I mean. And then
I also, what was like my favorite? I watched like
poultry Geist really young.

Speaker 2 (01:55:07):
Oh yeah, they're here, famously, they're here.

Speaker 3 (01:55:13):
Are you they're queer.

Speaker 2 (01:55:15):
Get used to it. I remember that little diva said
that to her parents, and I said, all I
