Speaker 1 (00:00):
A chick and a duck. We're here for you, Joe.
We now that we're here, you'll never be lonely. We
watch you while you sleep. What nothing?

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Have I told the story about how drunk I got
seeing Friends of Musical?

Speaker 1 (00:17):
You, I don't know if that's ever been told on
the podcast. You can tell it.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
So I've seen Friends the Parody Musical two times while
I saw it while two times while Ean was in
it early on in his friend's career. And then was
it like one of the last performances or the last performance?

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Yes, So I did Friends two separate times. I think
he saw it, Yeah, once each time. And the second
time you saw it it was like the last show
of my second go around that you came, says. The
last time I was Chandler being Historic.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Historic, and my roommate Cayden had seen it before. We
had seen it separately, so he and I both came alone.
But he told me that the bartenders at Friends the
Parody Musical they hook.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
You the fuck up, and he's.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
I remember, oh, it's a generous port. I remember he
called me during intermission and I was like at work
or something, and he's like, I'm really fucked up. I
was like, oh my god, really and he was like, yeah,
I'm having a blast. He's like I'm like scream laughing.
He's like I think I'm like being coming up like disturbance,
and I was like, wait, that is so fun. So

(01:28):
when we came back for Ian's final night, we were
like we're celebrating, We're having fun. We got dressed up
and he was like, if you get two double pores,
you've essentially had an entire bottle of wine. At the
front Spearity Musical. Oh and I remember like you coming

(01:49):
up to us at the end and we like almost
falling like it was not cut, like we almost like
falling down me like I'm so sorry, I'm so drunk.
I had such a nice night.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
I remember Kaiten going those bartenders are serving poison.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
The thing is loon.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
For that show, Like that's the vibe we want, Like
that's both the vibe you want to see it, and
that's also, as someone who's in the show, the vibe
we want from the audience. There were, you know, occasionally
audience members would get too drunk. There was a time
that a woman in the front row fully fell asleep.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Which is whatever performance and like the like her like
daughters are hitting her chest, and.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Kevin like, wag up, wake up, and we were all like, wha,
there's a show going on and you're in the front row.
But as long as you're not trying to loudly wake
up your mother, I think. I think if you're gonna
get drunk at any show in New York City, Issue
Separity Musical Recovering Gleek presents.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
A queer Buffy Podcast. Oh my gosh, I'm Lena the
Dimiana and welcome to SLH, a queer Buffy podcast. Wow,
today is different.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Today is a friend.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Welcome to your Buffy, Minnie, your many.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
You're Benny. I don't know you're not into Benny? Am
I gone? Hello? Hello?

Speaker 2 (03:43):
That's so funny. The door, it like instantly got better.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
On my end, nothing changes. I literally we're just having
to laugh. And then suddenly I say, I say a
hilarious joke, and you look dead faced at the camera
and I go and I'm gone. Any sane person would
have cackled at me saying we should call them Bennie's

(04:09):
I must be gone. Let me give you an impression
of what it was like. This is what it was
on my end. Should we call it a Bennie? Do
you not? Do you not like Bennie? Okay, I must

(04:30):
be gone, like no acknowledgment whatsoever, not even not even
like boom, just like pissed off me, mugging the camera.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
So over my ship. You don't want to be anymore
any I wish I saw it.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Well, you can see on the recording. Baby, go on
our Patreon you're like, so welcome to your Benny. We're
trying something. We're trying something. So this is a new
obviously you know it's a new podcast, new us. We're
messing around with a format we're trying out if we
if we like doing like a feedback episode, we might

(05:21):
also start doing in lieu of a feedback episode, doing
like we have like an email segment. Yeah, where we
will like have you know, like a ten minute segment
of each episode that's like dedicated to emails about the
past week. We'll see what happens for this week, this
is what's happening, and the next week will be teacher's pet. Uh,
and then who knows if the Bennies will live on? Hi?

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Sorry that really tickled me after the idea. Okay, here,
you don't like it.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
You also like you also like made annoy. That was
you acknowledging that I had frozen. But in my from
my perspective, it was you. I said, Bennie, and you
were like oh, I was like, got it, Okay, scratch
that one off the list.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
I tried.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Sorry, sorry that I took a risk. I tried something
no goodness ekes All right, well should we kick this
Bennie off? Just immediately get an email, Get an email
under our belts way.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
Hell yeah, hey, first email the first Bennie if we can,
it might be.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
The only Bennie.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
First and only Bennie. Sorry. The last Mimsy, the last Bennie,
Bimsy last yeah, whoa who. I remember nothing about it
except that it was called the Last Mimsy.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Yeah, and Mimsy was like like a bunny doll.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Girl, those are a diamond. Does go to any toy
store if there's a thousand Mimsies. Let's reality check it.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
I can't remember anything about it, but I do remember
I heard it. I heard someone say I haven't seen
the first Mimsy, and I also thought that was really funny,
and I think I probably laughed, like how I tested
about you. Okay, let's get this shut up. Let's start
with an email from John.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Shall We Yes, Hello Slayer Sash. It's been a long
time since I've done this. We're gonna take it again
to one, back to one, please everybody. We got a
few more takes than they can. Here we go and
Hello Slayer Slash claks tangent warning. Would you prefer Glayers
or Sleeks? I am fairly new to this podcast, tangent warning.

(07:44):
I found you because of Jenna and Kevin's podcast, which
I only found because they did a multi part crossover
with the Boy Meets World recap podcast where each feed
had a different part, and I don't even remember why
I got into that podcast since I never even watched
Boy Meets World. Also, I never aside from some of
darrency on YouTube since I was a starkind YouTube fan.
Last Christmas, I got the complete series of both Buffy

(08:06):
and Angel, having never seen an episode of either, and
I plan on watching them together. Not necessarily release order,
but I found an order online at justeantuplockspot dot com.
So far, I have seen all of Buffy seasons one, two,
and three, and I know pretty much everything that happens
in the rest of Buffy and Angel because of loving
certain YouTube reactors who have done all of Buffy and Angel,
and I watch their videos for their personality instead of

(08:28):
the show content. Plus, I use TV tropes a lot,
and a lot of the spoiler tropes use heavy examples
from Buffy since it was originally part of a Buffy
fan site. But I really enjoy your recaps and I
hope to continue with you along this journey, John, John,
We're so glad that you started listening to Boy Mee's World,

(08:48):
even though you never watched boy Mets World.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
And that listen you've never watched Lee.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Well that's true, but they've watched Buffy. So welcome to
the first podcast where you actually know what's you know
what's going on. Yeah, exactly. Welcome.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
Have a seat, John, We're happy to have you. Also
to answer your question, glayers are sleeks?

Speaker 1 (09:09):
I have an opinion.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Yeah, I think sleeks for sure.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
Oh and this is where we disagree.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
I like layers damn glayers.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Because it's one letter away from gayers, and I think
it's funny.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Yeah, but.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
I s there is something a little sleek.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
About sleeks, though I think that's a vibe I'm getting.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Okay, now you've won me over.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
I like, I mean you no, we can put it.
We can, honestly, John, if you're comfortable, we can make
it the pull on our Instagram.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
Yeah, put it up to debate.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
It's a campaign, y'all think. What do y'all think?

Speaker 1 (09:41):
I am very glad that you brought this up, because
this is something that I like had in the slacks
on the first episode and then I cut it out.
But I think it's worth noting. I think the children
need to be educated of how influential Buffy was. Yeah,
we all you know, at least Lean and I are

(10:02):
of the age that we were there for Glee's influence.
We saw it in real time. Yeah, but for a
lot of us, we were too young or not born
yet to really see Buffy's influence. As John brings up
the website TV Tropes that talks about as in the title,

(10:23):
all the tropes that are present in television and you
can look at but the different tropes are called, and
it gives you examples. That website literally started as a
Buffy fan site and then just expanded into what it
is today. Buffy has been there since the beginning of
the internet. Buffy changed the face of television. She changed
the face of the Internet. She's an eye country's legend.
She is the moment.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Now come on now, literally, I was going to spoil
the show, but I don't know that it's a spoiler. Sorry,
So I don't know why I do this. The phrase
google it.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Girl, that is not a spoiler. And now if you
already know that, don't bother watching season five. That's the
big twist. I know they're trying to find the answer
to something. Okay, and Willow says, I googled it, and
that is the gag of all gags.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
And I'll say google it all the time.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
That is canonically something you have said on this podcast.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
Already on the Buffy podcast.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
No, you said it on the Glee podcast.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Okay, Well, they feel I'm just trying very hard not
to even reference yeah, Buffy and any any talk of it.
I'm like, fuck, I can't help it.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
I'm sorry, but John, thank you for this email. I
hope you're enjoying Buffy and AMPLE very excited to have
you listening.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
I also also thank you for this link. I'll post
it on our Instagram story, and I.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
Think you would enjoying Glee. Yeah, I just feel like
Glee and Buffy are very linked in my head. Buffy
is more serious, Glee is more silly, but they feel
very similar.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
I think tonally, there are moments that are very similar.
I also think that what Buffy did for TV and
even like musical television like paved the way.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
I agree our girl Glee, I agree. Well, shout out John.
Happy to have you here.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Yeah, welcome, hope you enjoy. All Right, let's hear another
email from Gracie. Shall we.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
We shall Hello. My name is Gracie and I'm a
longtime gleek and I started watching Buffy after you guys
announced that that was what you would be covering for
the new pod, and I am loving it. I'm almost
done the season one and I'm having so much fun now.
When I was watching the first couple episodes with my
sister in law, we could not stop talking about how

(12:54):
cunty the Master is. He literally serves the house down
every time he's on screen, and I love it. The
nails iconic, the face serving, the attitude incredible. I love
everything about him. That's it for me. I just wanted
to share how much I'm loving Buffy and I'm so
happy to get into a new show, She Is the Slayer, Gracie.
You know, I feel I feel rewatching the show. I

(13:17):
feel this way about a lot so far. As a teenager,
I didn't enjoy The Master, and as an adult I agree.
I'm like, and what was I missing? He's serving down
camp He's incredible. He's a diva.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
No, he's definitely a diva.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
I just feel like a lot of the more campy
elements of the show I was taking at face value
and was missing just how inherently fun they are. Yes,
and this actor, god bless, I don't remember his name.
He is chewing like he is chewing the scenery. He's
having a great time.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
Oh, he totally is.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
And like even.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
His styling, like his silly outfit in his nail was like,
you're so right, Like he is he is really he's
come to Sleigh, he's looking for he's looking cunty.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
I really love this. He's like, she may be the Slayer,
but I'm playing exactly.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
I agree. Like growing up, I feel like I was,
you know, taking a lot of your right like things
at face value. For like everything I was watching, I
could not find the fun and anything that wasn't like
Buffy kissing people and like kicking ass. But like now
that I'm older, I'm like really appreciating like the side

(14:35):
characters and the vampires and like you know, the master. I'llo.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
I feel this way.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
I think about a lot of stuff from when I
was a teenager, which is I like, I don't know,
I wanted so badly to which I'm not going to
act like this isn't still a case, But I wanted
so badly to be intelligent and like be seen as
intelligent that I didn't have any appreciation for stuff that

(15:02):
was purposely silly or stupid like I was, so I
was so quick to be like this is dumb, and
therefore I'm smart because I recognize that this is dumb
and I didn't have any appreciation for like, yes, sometimes
things are dumb, but a lot of the times things
are actually like silly on purpose and there is a

(15:22):
genius to that, Like there is a genius and purposeful stupidity.
And I feel like a lot of the stuff rewatching it,
A lot of the stuff that I really didn't enjoy
as a teenager. Now I watch and I see how
smart it is because it is so silly.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
Yeah, yeah, I love that.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
Thank you. Oh my gosh, it's that I'm intelligent. I
really a second, well shout out, Gracie. I'm also glad
you're loving it.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Yeah, me too, Me too. Honestly, it is like such
a a cool thing to hear that Greeks are giving
it a try and enjoying it like that is huge
And honestly, I have a bunch of, like even like
in my personal life friends who are rewatching Buffy with
us and watching Buffy for the first time with us,
and that just means so much to me. It's also like,

(16:18):
you know, we're in this like cool book club and
we get together and you can talk about it in
this really fun way. And it also, this show just
means so much to me. So I'm so glad that
it can like find new life and fun in other
people's lives as well. I love that. Yeah, yeah, it
feels really special. Heca before we were at the next email,

(16:43):
I would love to hear about your birthday.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
Oh my gosh, little birthday.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
Birthday. It was really lovely. It's funny. When we recorded
The Witch, I knew nothing about what was going to
happen on my birthday. Yeah, it was all surprise, was
all supposed to be a surprise that my mom accidentally
revealed to me over the phone. So my mom and

(17:10):
sister came to New York for the week of my
birthday and visited for the whole week, and it was amazing.
I am glad I knew because I was able to
clear the entire week, like I planned it out so
that I have the whole week free and I could
hang out with him every day. So like a surprise
would have been fun, but it also would have been
sad to be like, oh, I have all these things
I can't move now. Yeah, So I'm glad she told me,

(17:32):
but I wanted to. I just want to tell the
story of how she told me. She like she told
me that she was coming. It was originally going to
be surprised that she was coming, and then she, I
think realized what I realized, which is like he should
know ahead of times and can get a schedule clear. Yeah,
so she told me, and then she just like mentioned

(17:54):
that she and Aaron were going to be in town,
and then after the phone call, realized that Aaron wanted
it to be a surprise. So then the next time
we talk on the phone, I'm mentioning I was like,
because my mom said we can see a show, like
whatever show you want to see, and I had mentioned
I was like, I think y'all will really enjoy Sunset Boulevard.

(18:15):
And my mom responds, who's y'all? And I said, you
and Aaron? And she goes, wait, how do you know
that Aaron's coming? And I said, you told me yourself.
She tried to just like bold faced light trick me
to be like, what are you talking about, y'all? Who's y'all?

(18:38):
It's just me, even though full like a day prior,
she had told me that Aaron was going. Anyway, it
was really really like, it was really really really fun.
You know. We went to the Cloisters, which I have
never been in the years that I've lived here, I've
never made my way up. We went to my cloisters,

(19:00):
We walked to Brooklyn Bridge, which my mom had never done.
We went to Little Italy and found a beautiful little
restaurant that has gluten free pasta and that was fabulous
love mm hm. We saw Sunset Boulevard and my mom
was crying after being like, her performance in that I

(19:21):
think is the best performance I'll ever see in my
entire life. Oh my god, and honestly, she's spilled. It's
great as someone who as someone who thinks the script
of Sunset Boulevard is bad, that production rocks, and I've
gotten in multiple debates because not everyone agrees with me.
And then we rushed Death becomes Her and they also
love Death Becomes Her.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
Good.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
That show rolls. It's so good. We went to Marie's crisis.
I like weirdly ended up doing a comedy show my
friend Liz, who also listens a podcast high Liz. I
found out, Oh my gosh, this is the gag of
all gags. My friend Liz I've known for a few
years listen to the Glee podcast because she liked Glee

(20:05):
and then was like, I'm excited that you're doing Buffy
and I thought she was being a supportive friend. I
found out that she like wrote a dissertation about Buffy
for her senior year of high school because she's such
a big fan, So shut up with Anyways, Liz was
hosting a comedy show and she was like, would you
be down to perform? But like, I know your family's
in town, so like, don't worry if you don't want to.

(20:27):
My family Aaron was like, I love going to comedy shows,
so absolutely, so I did do that. It's like, weirdly,
I was in a show at the Pit that they
got to come to also shout out friend of the podcast, Gleek,
Louis Coast, Andrew Maguire and Elias also came, which was
so sweet. It was really nice. What else did we do?

(20:47):
It was just an overall really lovely week, Like every
day was fabulous and I had a great time with
them and it made me very emotional. And on my
birthday it rained a ton, so I normally do the
like picnic in the park, but it was raining, so
I just like parked at a coffee shop and then
people stopped by the coffee shop and said hi, and
I got to see a bunch of people and then.

Speaker 3 (21:08):
I ended it.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
My parents left, well, my parents, my mom, and my
sister left Saturday morning. Then Saturday afternoon, my friend Emily
got married, who was Monica speaking of friends, pretty musical.
This is actually why we were talking about it at
the beginning of the episode. She was Monica when I
was Chandler, way back when she got married on Saturday,

(21:28):
and so I went to her wedding I've seen Emily,
like I think last time I saw was February, so
like it hasn't been super recent like I've seen her.
But there are people at that wedding that I genuinely
I have not seen in years, and it was so
wonderful to see them again and have that day together.
And it was just a like fabulous week.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
Yeah, oh my god, that's so good to hear.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Yeah, it was great from beginning to end. It was
an amazing week.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
That what a way to ring in this new decade.
Truly love really absolutely.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
And it was really I don't know. I also like was,
you know, wanted to do something special because it was
my thirtieth birthday, but then also was like what do
I even do? And then to find out that all
these people were like because beyond my mom and Aaron coming,
there were also a bunch of people yourself included, that
were like working together to put together messages to send

(22:24):
to me from like people who cared about me, and
so that was really special. It just like it was
I have I will never say that anything is my
favorite ever or my best ever, because that's too definitive,
but it was very likely my best birthday. We do,
but only a sith deals in absolutes. Okay, and that's true,

(22:44):
but it was very likely. It's an extremely strong contender
for my best birthday.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
That's a good time, lovely to hear you've had some
lovely birthdays. We met at.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
Survivor, I met the Cast famously. I'm at the Cast
and Survivor on my birthday.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
Oh, I'm really glad to hear that. It makes me
really expect. It was really cool to see too, like,
you know, how much people just love you, you know,
like I love you so much, but you know, we
also live so far apart, and we see each other
in this like really specific way. So like to see everyone,

(23:20):
like you know, post about you and like come out
and say how much they love you and like share
stories and like pictures, I was like, oh my god,
I it just like really makes me so happy to
see how like loved you are because I love you
so much, and you know, I just like you're such
an amazing friend and I'm so glad that you have

(23:41):
such an amazing community. And I just I am really
really glad to hear that you had a great birthday
and happy.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
I love you, Thank you, I love you too. When
you turn thirty.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
Welcome, I'm losing you.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
Oh no, you don't like thenny, so you don't like Benny?
Am I back? I don't know.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
I think I'm back.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
I think you're back.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
Okay, I'm back. Wow, I do like Benny. Uh, let's
keep druyking forward, sorry about it?

Speaker 2 (24:14):
Like Benny a lot?

Speaker 3 (24:15):
No, don't be.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
Damn well hbd king. Thank y'all so precious to me.
I love that you are loved and you're loved so
much by me.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
I wish I could have.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
You know, I wish I could have been too, but
it wasn't around. Hey, that's the break.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
I'll watch like I know, I'll watch like you know,
ships at New York and I'm like, fuck, I watch
you blos a picture on your birthday and I said, fuck,
I shall be there. But I'm glad that you were
celebrated and thank your best. I'm obsessed with you.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
Hell Yeah, let's tart a podcast together.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
Wait, that would be so fun. Oh my god, should
read another email? Yeah, okay, let's hear from.

Speaker 3 (25:14):
True.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
I say that like everything is not laid out.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
Already preplanned, as if you didn't sift through these emails
and organize. Love yourself. My dearest Lena and Ian, you
never stop surprising me. I can literally listen to you
for the next fifty years. I love these first few episodes.
I was definitely one of those people who have tried
watching Buffy but never made it past the first season.

(25:39):
Now watching it and looking at it through your eyes,
I'm definitely enjoying it a lot more. I guess I
always thought that Buffy would be like other fantasy shows
that I love, so I compare it to the likes
of Charmed or Vampire Diaries, which it is not. Now
watching it and not taking it too seriously, I am
embracing the campiness and silliness. I love the journey you
guys take with the side character and your head cannons

(26:01):
as that is some of my favorite bits from you
recapping Glee. Also, I cannot let the new Lena Ian
lore be so casually dropped in episode one? How did
it take this long to find out you guys were
Whovians and in as a marshmallow? Lean up? Veronica Mars
is so up your Alley? Who is your doctor? Can
I start the campaign now for Veronica Mars to follow Buffy.

(26:24):
There is not a good Veronica Mars recap podcast out there.
I have looked. Anyways, you guys just keep doing what
you were doing, and I'll keep on listening. Much love
and happy Pride, Drew Happy Pride in what like three days?

Speaker 3 (26:36):
Four days?

Speaker 1 (26:38):
I don't know mass when is this dropping? One? Two, three, four?
Five days? Counting the day that this drops? Hoppy Pride Pride.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
Gosh, who's my doctor?

Speaker 3 (26:49):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (26:50):
I know who my doctor is?

Speaker 2 (26:51):
Yeah, you're gonna say David Tenant.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
Obviously I'm not gonna say Davidutenant.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Whoa you to say Peter Capaldi?

Speaker 1 (26:58):
No, it's Matt's. Because when I first started watching Doctor Who,
I started so how I got into Doctor Who Is?
I had to get I had a debated septum and
I was so bad. I like literally my e and
T was like, you have She looked at my nose

(27:19):
and said, I wish we could cut off your nose
and grow you a new one. I got my Dvat
does that fuck you up?

Speaker 3 (27:26):
Forever?

Speaker 1 (27:27):
I feel like no, it actually it's a it's a
a sense yes, because I had a bunch of stuff
and I still struggle with this because it wasn't just
the deviated septum. It was also my allergies that like
I'm TMI extremely muciusy and so I have to especially

(27:47):
pre deviated septum. I had to blow my nose all
the time, and I had to clear my throat all
the time, and people used to always, which I understand,
it's a gross sound, but people used to always get
on my case about it as if like I was
like doing it for attention, And I was like, no,
you don't understand, Like I know it's a disgusting sound,
but I cannot breathe, and so do have a doctor

(28:09):
be like this is the worst nose I have ever seen.
Maybe like Okay, it's not me doing it for attention,
like genuinely it is medically I cannot breathe unless I'm
doing this and people just need to deal with that. Yeah,
So I hold that in my heart. It has a
special place.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
I hear that.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
But I got into doctor who because I had a
devate except to repair when I was in high school,
and so they were like two days when I was
just lying on the couch coughing up blood. Shout out
to anyone who's had their devate except and repaired. And
my brother just like put on Doctor Who. And this
was what like twenty twelve, so it was after the

(28:48):
first two Matt Smith seasons, and my brother really wanted
me to see the Silence arc, and so he was
like anything pre the like anything pre The Eleventh Doctor
basically gets explained in his first few episodes anyway, so
we're just gonna start there. So Matt Smith was the
first doctor I ever saw. And then I went back

(29:10):
and I watched David Tennant and Chris what's his last name,
the one who's in Force two Ecleston, Chrisphy, Eckleston. I
went back and watched their stuff. Eckleston, thank you. But
Matts Smith always has a special place in my heart
for that reason. Yeah, what about you, I totally hear that.

Speaker 2 (29:32):
Well, I think, well, hear me out. I think I
started watching Dog Who around the same time, probably, so
like that first season of the Eleventh Doctors stuff, Matt
Smith's stuff. I remember, I was like a little tumblr goblin,
so I think the girlies were obsessed that he was hot.

(29:54):
So I started watching around then. But I feel like
my doctor is David Tennant and my companion is Donna Noble. Oh,
my favorite pair. I'll never get I'll never I'll never recover,

(30:17):
they recover.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
I for similar reasons as Matt Smith, always feel partial
to Amy Pond to a degree that every time I see,
oh my gosh, what's happening to my brain? Karen Gillian,
Karen Gillen, Karen Gillen, to the degree that anytime I
see Karen Gillan in something, I feel as if like,

(30:41):
that's my child. I have any say in her getting
cast as Nebula and Guardians of the Galaxy. That's Amy Pond.

Speaker 2 (30:49):
Oh, I was thrilled to see her.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
So I'm always very partial to Amy Pond. Whereas like
by the time I got onund To Donna Noble, I
already knew who Catherine Tate was, so I was like,
I'm not responsible for her success. She's Catherine Tate. She
had her own show. But like Gary Gillen, I put
her on the map because I was watching you did.
Of course you did.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
I so agree. I see Honestly, I even see like
Matt Smith sometimes in You Know the Crown, and I'm like,
that's that's my guy.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
You're welcome.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
I've been obsessed with him forever. Yeah, yep, you should
be thanking me Matt Smith. Yeah, and I remember too.
I got so obsessed with David Tennant. I like was
watching all of his movies. There was like a really
weird vampire movie that David Tennant was in, like set
in Las Vegas that I was like fright night. If

(31:46):
I'm remembering it correctly, I was obsessed with it. I
don't know, but he played like a vampire living in
Las Vegas. But we were just talking about vampire media earlier.
But I mean, like I I was a huge doctor
who had I remember in my room, I had the
van Go painting of the Tartists. I like took my

(32:11):
Sonic screwdriver to school because it was also m.

Speaker 3 (32:17):
Yeah, I was.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
I was so far up doctor Who's ass in twenty
like twelve, thirteen, fourteen. It was crazy.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
Yeah. I will also say the lore may have been
more explicitly dropped in episode one, but the signs have
been there. Oh what about Lina's Born this Way t shirt? Lords?

Speaker 2 (32:39):
Kelly, I literally commissioned a shirt to be made. Instead
of likes girls, likes boys, it said likes time lords.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
Hello.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
Hello, I'm not new around here, I'm true around here.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
Yeah, yeah, come on, come on No, seriously, yeah, on
Veronica Mars, girl, is that Marshmallows is a Marshmallows? Yes,
Veronica Mars. Also, when I was watching Veronica Mars, I
don't why did I get into Veronica Mars. It was
a show that I'd always been like tiptoeing around, and

(33:16):
I actually watched it in college. And actually it's because
the movie came out and I was like, oh, I
love the idea of like a high school reunion movies
that I actually watched the TV show so I could
watch the movie. And I Drew tried to find a
recut podcast, and I agree much love to you know
whoever has Veronica Mars recap podcast. But I was like,
none of these are really for me. Yeah, but that

(33:39):
show rules, and that show is also like a who's
who of people who are successful. Now you'll be watching
it and be like, that's Kristin Ritter. Also against type
playing like a ditzy rich girl, where now she's always
playing you know, the like goth emo ladies and like
Tessa Thompson's in that show, Charisma Carpenter's in that show.

(34:03):
Speaking of Buffy the Bamfire Slayer, I love, oh Max
Greenfeld that's the other one. Great show, excellent show, very fun.
The movie also very fun. Also like, in my mind,
a perfect reboot to take a high school TV show

(34:23):
and then make a movie that takes place at the
ten year reunion, like so much of the cast comes back.
It's really fun. The reboot series was like, I never
finished it, I'll be honest. They just was what I
like about Veronica Mars. It's similar to how I feel
about Buffy. I love the ensemble of it all. I

(34:44):
love how this feels like a real world and I
feel like I know everyone, and there's so, so, so
many recurring characters, and that's why I liked the movie
and then the reboot TV show, which I respect because
it's unrealistic that fifteen years later she would still be
hanging out with everyone from our high school. But the
reboot TV show is like three people from the original show,

(35:04):
and then everyone else was a new character, and it
just made me sad. Yeah, I wanted to see all
my old favorites again, so I kind of, yeah, lost
interest a bit. I get that.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
Hi, I want to watch it and everything I've heard
about it and everyone I've ever talked to who likes
it is like, oh my god, girl, like you would
love this, so I would like to. I would like
to see it.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
Also, and this is why I love mystery shows. Veronica
Mars does the very satisfying thing where there is an
overarching season long mystery, but then every episode has a
mini mystery, so like every episode you get some closure,
you get some satisfaction, but then also it's enticing enough
that you will keep watching to see. Also, Lisa Rinna,

(35:47):
isn't that TV show?

Speaker 2 (35:48):
Oh my god, Lisa Na, Lisa.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
Rinner and Harry Hamlin playing husband and wife. It's insane.
It's really weird. Anyways, shout out, oh Rodica Mars, you
will always be famous. Great TV show.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
I'd like to watch it.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
Uh. Drew very glad that you were watching Buffy as well. Also,
I will say glad you are liking the silliness and
the campiness. We are also liking it. It was also
something I struggled with the first time I watched it.
Buffy does. I don't think it's as different from Charmed
to Vampire Diaries as you might think. Yeah, and especially
as we go on, things things things get dire mm hmm.

(36:31):
The first season is things get drum. Uh yeah, the
first season there, the show is silly throughout. The first
season is certainly the silliest.

Speaker 2 (36:40):
Yes, and like, oh my god, but I also like,
I love Charms so much, and that was I definitely
feel that they are very similar this first season. I
can see how it's not, but especially as you go on,
y Oh, I think you'll love it. Drew, thank you

(37:01):
so much for this email. Uh what are the hoovey
and say to each other?

Speaker 1 (37:06):
Alms, hell, yeah.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
That's what they say.

Speaker 1 (37:11):
Well, I know that someone says that it's I'll be honest.
I dropped off of Doctor Who because I was watching
it back when they would put like every season on Netflix.
Oh and then and I didn't have access to the BBC,
and so then I was just like I would be
without it for so long that I haven't seen it.

(37:32):
I haven't even seen Peter Capaldi, Like, I really haven't
seen it.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
No, I was in the same boat, like they took
it off Netflix, and I said, well, okay, then I'm
just never going to watch the show again. But now
it's on it's on Disney Plus. And I did watch
this as it Yes, those episodes are fun. Yeah, I
liked this last season a lot. It was really fun.

Speaker 1 (37:54):
Hi x damn night.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
All right, Oh my gosh, all right, Drew, thank you.
So let's hear from Hailey.

Speaker 1 (38:02):
Hi, friends, I have a Buffy Glee cross over question.
Which member of the Glee club do you think would
be a Slayer? In which adult would be a Watcher.
For me, it was easy to assume Quinn, but I
thought about it and decided that Jane is my pick.
Her auditioning for the Warblers, even though they're an all
boys group, was so kick ass and I'd trust her
with the fate of the world. Obviously, Bert was my

(38:25):
first choice for Watcher, but I think Cassandra July would
be the best fit. Yes, she spent half a season
bullying Rachel, but I think she'd be perfect for training
a slayer. She's a no nonsense person and when it's
life or death, you need someone like that in your corner.
I think she'd take her role really seriously and would
be willing to do the research required of a watcher
and would protect her slayer if she had to. I'd

(38:45):
love to hear thoughts, opinions, insights, loving and central forehead
kisses Haley, Haley, I do believe the original Buffy long
Cohn is us answering this exact question, and I do
think that we both say Quinn for Bray. Yeah, so
I have to check the tapes on that, But I
kind of like Jane more.

Speaker 3 (39:07):
I love Jane.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
No, I agree, I think she is. I think she
would be I think and I think Quinn could be
a Slayer. I think there is more than one type
of There are slayers that are different to other slayers.
There's more than one type of slayers. So I think.

Speaker 1 (39:24):
We learned more about past slayers in the show. The
Slayers are not a monolith.

Speaker 2 (39:29):
They're not. But I do think that Jane has is
incredibly brave and incredibly kick ass and also like has
a really good heart, So I think that she would
be such a good slayer. I think this is a
great thought.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
What at Lauren's ices as a slayer?

Speaker 2 (39:48):
Oh, okay, listen, I think Lauren could be called, but
I don't know that she would accept the calling. I
think she can't handle structure like that.

Speaker 3 (40:01):
And she was like the bullshit.

Speaker 1 (40:04):
So you think that she just like wouldn't fulfill any
of the duties.

Speaker 3 (40:10):
No, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
No, I think Okay, so I think in the in
these first couple of episodes, especially, you know, Buffy is
really reluctant mm hmm, but in a way that she
wants to Like, I don't know. I just think like
I think Lauren's not not good with authority like that.

Speaker 1 (40:31):
Yeah, Gas, here's my rebuttal, it's does that matter.

Speaker 3 (40:40):
The thing is like.

Speaker 1 (40:42):
You are applying to be this layer. You are called
to be this layer. It's not like, well I filled
out the job application. It's more like the Watcher is like, Okay,
so you have been activated, and whether you like it
or not, you have this responsibility and I'm going to
keep bothering you until you actually fulfill it. Okay.

Speaker 2 (41:00):
Well, I think she I do think she would kick ass.
I do think her attitude would be would be pis
poor about it, but be in a really fun way
to watch.

Speaker 1 (41:08):
That's I feel like she would be talking Matt Smack
to the vampires. I think that would be.

Speaker 2 (41:12):
Yeah, and she'd be a Watcher as a nightmare.

Speaker 1 (41:15):
Yeah. I feel like Santana is like the most obvious
that I feel like fans would be like, well, Santana
would be the Slayer, And to that, I say, I
can't comment too much on that, but I think there
are maybe I'm trying to think of, like how I word.

Speaker 2 (41:33):
This, I'm like watching you stuff, But do you do?

Speaker 1 (41:37):
You know what I'm And I think anyone else will
know what I'm talking about if you've seen Buffy, just
my hesitation of what I wanted to say there, I
think you'll know what I'm talking about. And those are
my thoughts on Santana exactly, exactly, those are my thoughts
on Santana. Yeah, I think Jane is the most like

(42:00):
she is someone that would be chosen to have the
power and then she would, whether reluctantly or not, would
take it seriously.

Speaker 2 (42:07):
Oh yeah, totally.

Speaker 1 (42:09):
I do see for Quinnverbray, you know, in the original
Buffy movie, which is like a soft prequel because some
of it is canon, and this is canon, Buffy was
a cheerleader at her old school. Quin Fabray's a cheerleader.
Buffy was a little ditsier before she became the Slayer,

(42:29):
and quin fver Bray isn't necessarily ditsy, but quin Fabray
is like a girl who kind of had a shallow
view of life and then, through sudden hardship, had to
like get more serious. Yeah, and that is very like
Buffy in the movie.

Speaker 3 (42:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (42:45):
So I do still think that Quinn's got the potential.

Speaker 2 (42:50):
I think so too. I think so too. I think
we've got some good potentials here.

Speaker 1 (42:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (42:56):
I don't think Rachel would be a Slayer.

Speaker 1 (42:59):
Oh, Rachel's not, are you kidding? The Watcher's counsel would
be like, absolutely fucking not, she really wants to be
no and that, and Rachel would apply. She would knock
on the Watcher, Watcher's eighth Q, she'd have a resume,
she'd have her reel and say I think I would
love to be considered for the role of Slayer. And
they'd say, this girl with this amount of power, she'll

(43:21):
kill more people than the demons will.

Speaker 2 (43:23):
No, seriously, They're like, we have to.

Speaker 1 (43:25):
This will bring about the apocalypse.

Speaker 3 (43:27):
Yeah, oh my.

Speaker 2 (43:28):
Gosh, Watcher is a good option. Cassandra July is also
a really good option. I think that's really good. I think, yeah,
like she would.

Speaker 1 (43:43):
Finish.

Speaker 2 (43:44):
I was gonna say, I think she would be really helpful,
but also like she's no nonsense. But I do think though,
I think a lot, at least in my view of
the Slayer, it kind of has to be a little
self guided, like you know, like the Watcher can't slay
for you. The slayer has to kind of you know,

(44:06):
the Slayer has the power to like even like sense
what's going on, and like I don't know, so I
don't think the Watcher can have like too much say
on what's going on or like too much control, because
the Watcher just doesn't have the view on the forces
of darkness like the slayer does. If that makes sense,
If that's just where my head is going.

Speaker 1 (44:28):
Well, like Giles says to her in the premiere, and
he's like, you're the Slayer. You should be able to
spot evil immediately, like it should be instinctual. And then
she can. She sees Thomas in the club and she's
like that's a vampire.

Speaker 2 (44:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (44:39):
And while Giles is necessary and that he can like
do all these research about the demons and kind of
tell her these facts about them that she wouldn't know,
she does have this inherent sixth sense that he is lacking.

Speaker 2 (44:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (44:52):
Yeah, that's the other hard thing is like Bert would
be the best Watcher because he's just like so fatherly
and and just like so kind, but like in the
same way that we got really lucky that Buffy was
the Slayer because she like takes it so seriously. We
also got really lucky that Giles was her Watcher, because

(45:12):
sometimes you get a girl who is not going to
care as much about the slayer powers and is going
to be a little more dangerous, And then a lot
of the time you get a watcher who is going
to be a little more power hungry and is not
going to care so much for the Slayer, but it
is going to be more self important and like, this
is you know, I'm so great and awesome that I

(45:34):
have this big role where I'm like protecting the world.
So I guess her question was the best watcher, So
I guess, you know, I should go for someone I
think would be helpful and not damaging. Because I think
Sue as a Watcher would be fun.

Speaker 3 (45:52):
I should.

Speaker 2 (45:55):
She run the council like the Navy. She would run
the Slayer like the Navy. Like that would be fun
to watch. I don't think she'd do a good job.

Speaker 1 (46:02):
No, I think she'd be terrible, but it'd be fun.
It'd be drama.

Speaker 2 (46:07):
I think Will would, much like Rachel, go to the
Watcher's Council with his bread and apply please let me.
But I don't think he'd be a good watcher. I
think there are moments that he could, but I think
overall I just wouldn't. I wouldn't go for him.

Speaker 1 (46:21):
I do like this Cassandra July though, because while she
can't kill the demons herself, I do agree that she
is scary enough that she would scare the slayer straight
and be like, no, actually, swimmer, you're going to slay
the vampires. Sorry, sorry, I like this take.

Speaker 2 (46:45):
I like this take too, like struggling to think of
anything anyone who I think would be better than those two.

Speaker 1 (46:54):
I think Terry Schuster. I think Terry Schuster Slayer, howd
Bamboo Watcher? That's the TV show I want.

Speaker 2 (47:08):
Also, I think Finn would have been a good watcher too.

Speaker 1 (47:12):
Oh like a like a Marley Slayer Finn Watcher vibe. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
he's a very good pick. Actually, adult Finn would be
a very good watcher.

Speaker 2 (47:25):
But honestly, Terry is a slayer. Oh my god, she
would ship talk more than any slayer we've ever seen.

Speaker 1 (47:32):
I'm obsessed. I want to see it.

Speaker 2 (47:35):
I think she's got the power too.

Speaker 3 (47:36):
She is.

Speaker 2 (47:39):
Oh my god, Terry.

Speaker 1 (47:41):
You and Terry's deal. It wouldn't even be like I
just want to be a normal girl. She would just
be like, I'm lazy. She's like I think she'd kind
of get off on the fact that she was special.
But she'd be like, I'm only slaying six hours a day,
four days a week, like I'm not gonna be slaying
full time. Sorry, oh my god.

Speaker 2 (47:59):
And she especially wouldn't be going to high school during
the day.

Speaker 1 (48:02):
She'd be taking an app Yeah. She'd be like, I'm
taking it. I'm playing hooky, no, thank you.

Speaker 2 (48:06):
No, seriously, sure, Howard Bamboo, the librarian just.

Speaker 1 (48:11):
Like trying his best to keep her on track and
keep her doing anything.

Speaker 2 (48:16):
Like helping her train and like, yeah, Terry punching him.

Speaker 1 (48:22):
And he just come up all so polite.

Speaker 3 (48:24):
Oh so, Terry.

Speaker 1 (48:26):
According to this book, this is the demon that we're facing,
the Order of Relius.

Speaker 3 (48:33):
Oh, the Order for Relius.

Speaker 1 (48:35):
Oh Howard, Howard, I miss you.

Speaker 2 (48:38):
I think that's hard.

Speaker 1 (48:39):
Well those are our thoughts, Terry Slayer, Howard Watcher final answer.

Speaker 2 (48:43):
Final answer, Thanks, Haley. All right, let's hear an email
from Sophie.

Speaker 1 (48:55):
Hey, besties, I just want to pop in and say
it that three episodes in, I'm already loving this Buffy adventure.
Prior to announcing the turn to Buffy, my only knowledge
about the show was a Buffy exists and kicks ass
be Angel exists. And I only knew that because I
love David Borriannis and Bones. I loved part of me
David Boriannis and Bones when I was like twelve. Maybe
Sophie still does. I can't speak for her. And see

(49:19):
oddly the entire plot of season six thanks to a
Sarah z YouTube video that I watched because I never
thought I'd get around to watching Buffy, so I figured
that spoilers didn't matter. I actually this is Ian talking
think I've seen that exact YouTube video. Anyways, It's very good,
but if your first time watcher, I would suggest waiting
until we get a season six back then. But now

(49:40):
I am all aboard the Buffy train. I've even started
down the rabbit hole by learning about how much the
Buffy HD remaster sucks ass and going to very legal
websites to find a copy of the OG four x
three version. Initial thoughts, I love you below, what Rosenberg
Xander exists, Giles's kind of baby girl, and Oh my god.

(50:01):
Buffy is such a baby. I must protect her. I
love her so much. I'm so excited to keep watching.
I'm even being so brave for you and only watching
one episode a week. I'm a binger, yours truly, Sophie.
She her from Australia International Listener. PS. Do I remember
you considering a Riverdale pod in the early days of
recovering Gleek? Yes? Am I willing to wait five years

(50:23):
to hear it? Yes, of course, and I'll enjoy the ride. PPS.
That was a joke. I will listen to literally whatever
you want to make, even if that never includes Riverdill. Oh, Sophie, I,
if I'm not mistaken, believe. Oh, I guess you're in Australia,
so chuck. What dizzey plus has in the US, at

(50:44):
least Hulu has the original version is not the remaster,
because the remaster was on streaming and there was such
a backlash from fans that they literally removed it from
streaming and put the original version back on ye.

Speaker 2 (50:59):
Which thank god. Sophy also sent us a video that
I had seen before, but I watched it again this morning,
like all about the like yes, oh my gosh, and
it is, and especially in that video too, I can
post it on our social media. In that video too,
they talk a lot about like the director of photography

(51:19):
is like, it really sucks that this work that I
did for this so many years, this thing that I
like feel so proud of, is like thrown in the trash.
Like they don't give a shit about it. They just
wanted it to be HD and like didn't do any
care to like do any sort of thought, put any
thought into the color grading, any thought into the cropping,

(51:40):
any thought into like the redoing of the special effects.
Like it is really nasty. In that video, like shows
just how you know, they just did a really piss
poor top.

Speaker 1 (51:53):
It's sad our. Tiktoks are the remaster because uh, there
may or may not be a tumbler somewhere that has
all the episodes of Buffy on it, but they're only
the remastered version. And yeah, if I'm poor, so like
to make a TikTok, I need to screen Yeah I

(52:16):
need to screen record something, and you can't rescreen record
off of Hulu. And so I just go to that
tumbler and I screen record the scenes and they are
the remastered version. And that alone. The cropping is really
frustrating because they try and do I don't know the
actual aspect ratio, like what the official aspect ratio is,

(52:36):
but they're trying to do a wide screen and the
show was filmed to be on a square television is
filmed to be four x three, and so the cropping,
they just are taking the screen and they're cutting the
top chunk off and the bottom chunk off, so a
lot of the framing is fucked up. And then occasionally,
which they talk about this in that YouTube video, occasionally
if they can't crop the bottom and top off, instead

(52:57):
they expand the sides and you will see stuff like
crew members on the side of the screen because it
was not filmed to be in wide screen. It was
filmed be four by three. Yeah, but I've noticed it
a lot working with that tumbler and trying to get
like screen grabs and videos. How often just like people's
foreheads are chopped off because they yeah, yeah, it's annoying. Anyways,

(53:22):
heyo us to your other thoughts. I love people a
Rosenberg as well. I like Xander most more than other
people like Xander, but that might change. And Giles is
baby girl. You are correct about that.

Speaker 2 (53:36):
No, he definitely is baby girl.

Speaker 1 (53:39):
Rupert Giles the best girl.

Speaker 2 (53:40):
When he complains about the weather.

Speaker 1 (53:42):
Oh my god, that's next episode of baby. Tune in
next week.

Speaker 2 (53:46):
Oh, tune in next week. Sorry, we're just so fans.
I forget where we were. Also, Buffy is such a baby.
I must protect her. Thank you for saying that. I
feel like I feel like Buffy Summers is not only
my baby, but she's my mother. And I'm her baby

(54:07):
and her mother as well, of course, do you know
what I mean? Like, I feel like such an intense
protectiveness over her, but I also like and she raised me,
but also like I need to. I need to protect
her so bad it's crazy. Yeah, she's my baby.

Speaker 1 (54:22):
It's very rare that a TV show has their main
character be like the most compelling character to me. And
while while personally Buffy isn't my favorite character, I'm Buffy
she is.

Speaker 2 (54:38):
Like.

Speaker 1 (54:39):
There are so many shows I watch where the main
character I'm like, it's they're fine, but I'm watching for
this character and like, no, while maybe there are like
specific characters that at least for me personally, I connect
with a little bit more, I'm watching for Buffy, Like
she is such an incredible compelling character. Yeah, she's fabulous.
Did a really great job. Shout out they did. Also,

(54:59):
David Borne, have you ever watched Bones?

Speaker 2 (55:02):
I have it, but I have a ton of friends
who really love Bones, so I've watched a lot of
it with like Kennedy Jones, but I really don't know
much about about it.

Speaker 1 (55:11):
Hell yeah, I just like I know nothing about Bones.
I didn't even know it was about forensic scientists until recently. Yeah?
Is this even even a fully baked thought?

Speaker 2 (55:25):
What?

Speaker 1 (55:25):
I just like, it's funny to me that he went
on to have such a long, illustrious career that I
know nothing about. And also, every time I think of
David Briannis, I think of an episode of BoJack Horsemen
where BoJack is out of town and his roommate wants
to make money. So his roommate wants to give celebrity

(55:46):
tours of BoJack's house, but finds out that no one
actually cares enough about BoJack to buy the tour, so
he lies and says that it's David Brianna's yes, and
gets a bunch of pictures of David Borriannis and prints
them out and hangs them around the house, and I
think it always tickles me because he is the most
random celebrity to pick to be like, oh my gosh,

(56:07):
a tour of David Brianna's house, and I think of
that episode all the time. Brianna shout out anyway, and
that's that. On that, Thank you, Sophie.

Speaker 2 (56:21):
Also, thanks for being so brave and only watching one
episode a week.

Speaker 1 (56:24):
Oh truly, I'm strong.

Speaker 2 (56:25):
I have not been been brave and I have been
watching on I can't.

Speaker 3 (56:30):
I need to stop.

Speaker 2 (56:34):
Sophie, thank you so much for this email. Oh next,
we have a message from Joe.

Speaker 1 (56:39):
Hi Leena and I Joe he him from Wales. Here listen.
I've emailed in ten times just checked since Recovering Gleek started,
but have been kind of a wall for like a
full year after falling so far behind a podcast, mental
health and no longer having a smartphone for quirky reasons.
I've only now seen Orcovering Gleek has gracefully come to

(57:01):
an end. So I'm sure now's a great time to
send an email. First of all, I'm so excited to
continue following your journeys and to listen to Sleigh. I've
never watched a single EPSID of Buffy, but I just
ordered the DVD box set, so I am much along
with the new show and can't wait to start now
for the sappy stuff. When I started listening to Recovering
Gleek in twenty twenty one, I was in a dark place.

(57:22):
I won't go into details bless just say that binge
listening to the show when driving to and from my
life absorbing job was legitimately the highlight of my day.
It's odd to think that it's been four years since
that time. Being honest, not much has changed in my life,
but having a silly podcast to listen to these years
has truly made it easier to get through each week.
I'm not active on discorder Patreon. I cancel my subscription

(57:46):
for it. I canceled my subscription for a bit, but
just restarted it. Sorry I was poor, but my parasocial
relationship with you guys is strong, and I wanted to
send you a virtual hug if you choose to accept it.
Whenever you guys laugh, I laugh along goes through the
tears that you bravely share with us. Thank you both
truly for continuing the show despite any hardships life has
thrown your way. Life may be hard, but despite it all,

(58:08):
we're still here. Sappy stuff done, sappy stuff done again.
I'm so excited to start Buffy and send in my
thoughts as someone who knows nothing about the show except
that there's an insane reccon in a late season and
maybe the Angel spinoff is bad. Thanks again, fro the
bottom of my heart. Lots of love, Joe.

Speaker 3 (58:26):
PS.

Speaker 1 (58:27):
Because I didn't know where to mention it. I even
wrote a whole ass book about queer representation in Glee,
something that hasn't seen the light of day yet, but
I may chuck online somewhere if you two are interested, Joe,
I think you should check that online.

Speaker 2 (58:38):
Yeah, that's awesome, That's cool as shit.

Speaker 3 (58:41):
You were hard on that.

Speaker 1 (58:42):
Yeah, my gosh. Joe also has since sent us an
updated email with a picture of the box set.

Speaker 2 (58:48):
It has arrived everyone, Oh thank god it Honestly, I
was so excited to see that it arrived, and also
I got jealous, and I've been looking on eBay four
box sets. I've been several times. I had DVDs back
in the day that those are lost to time, unfortunately,
but I need to find my own box sets may
be jealous, so Joe, I covet your life in this way. Joe,

(59:13):
thank you so so seriously, genuinely so much for this email.
I it just it means so much to me to
hear that it's humbling anytime anyone says this genuinely, and
it really does touch my heart that we could help
you in literally any way during times of hardship, because

(59:35):
it being here and doing this has also helped me
in that way and to share that strength back and forth.
It is not going unnoticed and it has bolstered I'll
speak for myself certainly me in a lot of situations.
And I'm really glad to hear that you are excited

(59:57):
to watch Buffy with us and that you're here and
that you know we could it anyway be here for you,
for your for your life. And I'm so glad that
you do not have to apologize for not being a patron.
God knows I understand, so don't you worry about that.
But thank you so much for this email.

Speaker 1 (01:00:13):
And yeah, very honored to have been with you through
these last few years. And also as someone who is
watching the Angel spin off, yeah, I think it's worth
of a shot. Don't watch it yet, but I think
it's a word of the shot. I'm having a good time.

Speaker 2 (01:00:34):
Yeah, how are you? I'm about halfway through season one,
not very far.

Speaker 1 (01:00:40):
Those are long. Has a new main character come in?
I don't want to spoil it.

Speaker 2 (01:00:51):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:00:52):
Okay, then probably not. I'm trying to figure out. I'm
trying to gauge where you are in season one.

Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
Actually know this.

Speaker 1 (01:00:59):
The Angel spin off is tonally very different from Buffy.
But I'm enjoying it, So shut out, shout out. More
on that later, More on that later.

Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
I was recently, I've been feeling like such a fraud
for not have watched, for not having had watched Angel,
but drop out. Just put out an I'm actually episode
exclusively about Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and one of the
people there they had never seen Angel as well, and
I was like, okay, okay, so I'm not laking alone
in being a huge Buffy fan and also.

Speaker 1 (01:01:36):
Not It's just it's just very different. It is even now,
and I'm enjoying it. But even now, and I'm three
seasons deep, I am like, but I would rather watch Buffy.
I'm just watching Angel because I feel like if I'm
gonna have a podcast about Buffy, I should at least
know this information.

Speaker 2 (01:01:56):
I remember when I was getting my Buffy tattoo, I
like had it on the books like months later, and
I was like, Okay, well, before I get the Buffy tattoo,
I have to watch Angel.

Speaker 1 (01:02:07):
And it still never happens, ever happened, never happens.

Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
It's like twenty eighteen.

Speaker 1 (01:02:12):
It's happening now, shout out, it's happening now.

Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
Literally, oh never.

Speaker 1 (01:02:16):
Well, Joe, thank you for this email. Thank you everyone
who emailed My goodness love hearing from you.

Speaker 2 (01:02:23):
Wait not Glenny Benny.

Speaker 1 (01:02:26):
Benny, Glenny Girl, Benny Benny. If you would like to
email us if you have thoughts on any of the
episodes about Buffy, about whatever, send them to Recovering Gleek
at gmail dot com. I just want to shout this
out because it does make me giggle. We do occasionally
get you know, we're a podcast. We occasionally will get

(01:02:47):
emails that are like business related from people. I just
want to shout this one out because it made me laugh.
I understand that business emails. You know, you don't have
time to like do a million things of research about
someone When you're reaching out to them. But this person

(01:03:07):
they emailed us, and they're always, you know, everyone that
emails you always is like, I'm you know, I'd love
to work with your podcast. I'm such a big fan.
And they're trying to like show what a big fan
they are. And this person literally emails us talking about like,
I was so excited to see this podcast. It's dedicated
to Glee. I love that show anyways, and the two
great hosts. And I quote I Jazz all Read and

(01:03:31):
Leanally Blonde, Leanally Blonde as if it's your legal name,
leading me blonde into that, I said, I recognize a
podcast fan when I see them. You've listened to every episode,
you really like us, You're not just blowing smoke.

Speaker 2 (01:03:46):
It was I Jazz for me.

Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
I was like, I Jazz.

Speaker 2 (01:03:49):
Hey, well it's IJ Allread.

Speaker 1 (01:03:52):
But where's the Z coming from? But where's the Z
coming from? I Jazz all Read?

Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
Where's the Z from? No, seriously, I have no idea
kind of a fun name.

Speaker 1 (01:04:04):

Ian thirty years. If you want to reach out to
I Jazz and lean Elite, you can do it. A
