Speaker 1 (00:00):
If you focus on these four fs, you will be
able to start organizing the different areas in your life
in efforts to begin to find balance. Hey, I'm Brianna Aponte,
your host of the Self Life CEO podcast. I dropped
out of college at the age of nineteen to start
my first business. I worked seven days a week, wore
way too many hats, and was the true definition of
(00:21):
a hustler. Years later, I'm finally living the dream that
I worked so hard to make my reality. I've transitioned
from a hustler to a self life CEO, working only
two days a week to maintain and run a high
earning business that gives me the freedom to live a
life I love. Now it's my mission to help as
many entrepreneurs as I can elevate the brand, increase their income,
and reclaim their time. Join me and guest experts as
(00:42):
we share our transparent journeys, work smart and not hard, strategies,
and the behind the scenes of running a successful brand
and business. You're tuned in to the Self Life CEO Today,
we are talking about finding balance and the key to
it all. I often ask how I balance everything so
well and very intentional about how I spend my time
and how I prioritize the things that matter most, which
(01:05):
helps me find balance. But I'm human, y'all, even I
struggle with that. Being said, I'm also here to help
and I have some helpful tips to help you with
finding balance in your life as well. Dre and I
created what we call the four FS to basically having
a happy, successful, balanced life, and those four fs are fitness, family, finances,
(01:28):
and faith. It's the four things that we focus on
in order to establish balance in our lives and in
our relationships. Let's talk about each one in detail. So
number one fitness. This refers to physical health and wellness,
and this should also be a really big focus for
each and every one of you. Whether what size you are,
(01:49):
what shape you're in, and how you feel right now
with your body, you have got to take care of
it because it is the only one that you have.
So whether you're a CEO or just a go getter
at work, it's easy to let things like exercise and
diet go by the wayside once things get busy in
the office. Without your health, you are unable to do
the work that pays your bills, or live long enough
(02:11):
to see your grand babies, and that's why it's crucial
to continue to keep your body strong and healthy enough
to enable you to do the things that excite you
and keep you enjoying life. The key here is to
be fit enough that you don't have to say no
to anything that you want to do. Take a moment
and write your thoughts about your health and wellness. How
(02:33):
is your eating, how often are you active? What does
your body feel like? See where there is room for improvement,
and start making slow and realistic changes to increase your health.
Feeling better and looking better will help make you feel
like you have more balance, and this may mean that
you need to meal prep, join a gym, or start
walking on your lunch breaks. Whatever it looks like for you.
(02:54):
Start to make those changes little by little and see
how much of a difference you feel. Number two is family.
This also includes friends and your spouse. How balanced do
you feel with your family and friends? What's your relationship
like with your spouse, your kids? How about your parents
and extended family members. Your relationship should be important no
(03:15):
matter how busy things get at work. If you feel
like you're lacking here, it's worth hitting a pause button
to make the investment in repairing those relationships. Family and
friends are truly a part of your support system, and
you'll never miss them more than when you're at your
lowest point. Having people around you that you like and
trust is one of the best indicators of living a
(03:36):
long life. If you are sacrificing relationships like these because
you're working too hard, you're clearly not in balance. It's important, though,
to not overextend yourself either. We all have a lot
of family and friends. You can't speak to everybody every day,
so it's crucial that you prioritize the relationships that you
have and be intentional with each person in a way
(03:59):
that makes sense for that particular relationship. Number three is finances.
This refers to whatever you do to make an income
and how you budget your money. Even though making money
is important, it is not everything. Creating boundaries for how
much time you spend working or making money is just
as important as managing the money you're making. Dre and
(04:22):
I have cut off times for when we stop working
and spend quality time with each other. Whether you're in
a relationship or not, a cutoff time from work is
important because you need to recharge in order to work
at your fullest potential. Whether you're running your own business
or climbing the corporate ladder, ask yourself how energized are
you to go into work every day? Are you excited
(04:45):
to be making a difference in making progress or do
you dread the day to day drag? Or if you
own your own business, how are things going? Are revenues
and profits growing? The next question is what does your
personal financial balance sheet lit Are you on a path
to accumulate enough wealth that you will be able to
enjoy a comfortable retirement. Do you even have a retirement plan?
(05:09):
What's in your savings account? What is your monthly budget?
Are you in debt and do you have a plan
for getting out of it? There are so many important
questions to ask yourself when it comes to finances. The
key to personal financial health is to feel in control
and know that you have enough money to have options.
If you are working too much and you don't have
(05:29):
the money you need, something is clearly missing in the equation.
And then this brings us to number four, which is faith.
The final aspect of living a balanced life is your
spiritual side. This could be anything from taking a walk
in the woods to making a trip to go to
church on Sunday. Whatever it is that feels your spiritual cup,
(05:50):
and this is how we renew ourselves when we're down,
and it's something that can easily be neglected. Make the
time to rethink your connection with God, nature, or world,
whatever it is that you believe in. If you focus
on these four fs, you will be able to start
organizing the different areas in your life in efforts to
begin to find balance. Get my free training from Hustler

that come to mind when I think of balance. So
one guys, is to quit trying to multitask. If you
(06:34):
want balance, why are you trying to do multiple things
at once? Stop that right now because it is not helping.
If you are somebody who claims to be a great multitasker,
like I once was, I would simply say that if
you're great at multitasking, imagine how great you would be
if you focused on one thing at a time. We
(06:54):
need to stop trying to be everything for everybody and
just be great at whatever the one thing is that
we're doing in that moment. Multitasking realistically limits our production
and reduces our capabilities. I used to love multitasking. I
thought to do more at one time meant I was
being more productive. But as I got more and more
(07:16):
into entrepreneurship, I realized all I was doing was working hard,
not smart. All multitasking did was have me give a
portion of my best to a lot versus me giving
my best to one thing at one time. Even now,
when I attempt to multitask, whether I have an episode
playing in the background while working on something, or working
(07:37):
on a project in between calls, it forces me to
make mistakes that I normally wouldn't make if I were
completely focused on just one thing. Our brains also function
better when you give all of your time and energy
to one thing at a time, and I mean studies
prove this. There's so many different things online that you
can research about it. It is a proven fact that
(07:58):
when you work on one thing at one time, you
will be working at your best. Tip Number two is
learn to shut it down when your workday is over,
let it be over, shut it down and leave, Or
if you work from home like me, shut it down
and leave the laptop in the other room. You don't
need it. If you're working crazy hours every day, you
(08:20):
will never establish a work life balance. Become more intentional
during your normal work hours to accomplish your must do task,
and if you don't get to the other items on
your to do list, they can wait until tomorrow. If
something absolutely cannot wait, make arrangements to stay late to
complete it. However, this should never turn into the norm.
(08:41):
I use Trello to organize and create my daily to
do list, and if seven pm comes and I haven't
completed things on my list, I drag them over to
the next day. If I get to Friday and I
have too much on my plate to complete everything by
seven pm, I either work late Friday or make Saturday
a workday. This this makes me motivated during the week
(09:01):
to work more strategically and complete everything on time so
that I can enjoy my weekend. So come up with
a system that works for you. But if you don't
obey your own boundaries, how will you ever accomplish balance?
Number three, give your best at home. Plenty of people
desire a healthy work life balance, yet as soon as
(09:21):
they get home, they crash. If you are giving your
family or spouse, you are leftovers at the end of
each day, Eventually that's exactly what you'll get in return. Instead,
do whatever you need to do to recharge your battery
and then give them your absolute best. They deserve it
and so do you. And if you don't have a
family or spouse, this applies to friends as well. Number
(09:43):
four be absolutely present. I believe it all comes down
to this one tip. This tip is similar to stap multitasking, However,
it puts more emphasis on the individual event or task.
Whatever you are doing or whoever you are doing it with,
be absolutely present, give it or them your complete attention
(10:06):
and be fully present. If you are working on a
project at home, give it your all. If you are
at home with your family, give them all of your focus.
If you're out at dinner, put away your phone and
give the people you're with your attention. If you're volunteering
in your community, serve them with everything you have and
do not be distracted. All too often our lives are
(10:26):
out of balance because we get preoccupied with all the distractions,
we lose focus on what's right in front of us.
If you really want a better balance in your life,
start being absolutely totally present wherever you are, with whoever
you're with. You'll be amazed at how your life will
instantly change. Number five, Set boundaries. This is a struggle
(10:49):
for a lot of people because normally we are people pleasers.
But people pleasing will not get you to where you
want to be at life, and especially won't help with
creating balance. So figure out what your priorities are, who
the people are that matter the most, and then set
boundaries around that to make sure that you are guarding
yourself and the people you care about. Most. Boundaries are
(11:12):
such a huge part of you really finding balance, and
you have to create boundaries in multiple areas in your life,
whether that's work, family, friends, your health and wellness, and
even just your day to day time. If you are
at work and your phone is going off and every
five minutes you're checking your phone and you're being responsive
(11:33):
to people, but you're lacking and doing the job that
you're supposed to be doing at that one time, that's
not helping you with balance and vice versa. If you're
with your friends and family and people you love, and
you're giving a bunch of your attention to something that
involves work. Again, that's not a way to find balance.
So overall, ladies, determine what things in your life are
(11:55):
a priority, schedule out the necessary time to each of
those things, and set bounce so that your plate is
never too full to be your best. The moment you
overwhelm yourself with things, you become a disservice to the
people around you and most importantly, to yourself. Thanks for
