visit with Garymichaels. He's going to be in Sioux Falls
this weekend. And Gary is a biker, he's a hypnotist,

(00:22):
and he's a comedian. Now, I got to tell you, Gary,
I've had bikers on the program. I've had hypnotists on
the program. I've had comedians, but you're the first one
that's all three of those things.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Well, it's funny because I am technically the only guy
in the world as a biker that does what I do.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
You know, he was doing a gig down.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
In Biloxi, Mississippi, a couple of weeks ago, and we
were doing a newscast. They were out there supporting the
cause that we were doing the concert and stuff, and
the promoter he says, we've got magicians, we've got comedians,
we've got hypnotists.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
And I jumped in front of the camera. I said,
that's all one guy.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
I love that. That is awesome.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
That's a fun gig too.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
So you got all these different things to do. Which
was the first? What came first? Was it comedy? Was
it hypnosis?

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Actually, that's a really good question. I was on the
radio for thirty five years. I started my radio career
when I was eighteen. After that, I started doing some
TV stuff locally. After that, started singing a little bit.
After that, I got into comedy.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Gary kind of sounds like you can't hold down a job.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
That's exactly right.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
But you know, my wife tells me the one good
thing about me is I'm annoying as hell, meaning when
I'm out and about somewhere, I'm going to be entertaining
because I can't. I can't stop myself. I have to
be entertaining no matter where it is that we are.
And that's why she says I'm annoying. But it does
pay off because when I'm annoying people out and about,

(01:44):
they're going to go, Okay, this is pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Now what's he going to do on stage?

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Let's go find out. So you guys, come and find
out for yourselves. It's going to be an experience like
you have never seen before.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
I think that's fantastic, and Gary, I love your voice,
so I'm glad to hear that you were a radio guy.
That absolutely makes sense to me.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Throughout my radio career, I didn't want to just be
the voice. I wanted to get out in front on stage,
get out front of the people and mingle with everybody
and shake hands. And that's how you make friends, you know,
you just get out there and you talk to everybody.
So I went through a really really bad depression.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
I mean it was bad.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
It was almost the end of Gary Michaels, and I
wanted to figure out a way to deal with it
without having.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
To go to a doctor or use medication.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
So hypnosis came up and I got intrigued by it
and I could not stop studying it.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
So, yes, I am a self taught hypnotist.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
And the next thing, you know, comedy hypnotists popped up
on the screen and I'm like, that's what I want
to do. So I decided to learn how to become
a hypnotist and take all the other skills that I
developed with the comedy the magic. I'm also a close
up magician. When I sing in a band, you know,
I did a lot of commercial work, and a few
movies and television things that I've done throughout my career.

(02:54):
I decided to take all of that and mix it
into one show. And that's why I'm the only guy
in the world as a biker that does what I do.
And the cool thing is, as a biker, I'm sort
of a secret weapon. Nobody sees me coming because they
don't expect someone in the biker community to be out
doing the things that I did.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
We are excited to see you in Sioux Falls this
Friday night and this Saturday night. Is it common for
you to do two nights in a row like that.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Here's the thing, man, Some people get a little weirded
out about hypnosis shows because they don't understand it. A
lot of people don't believe it, which is fine. Here's
what I tell people. Come see the show. If you
come to the first show, you're going to be completely amazed,
scratching your head, going, what in the world did I
just see? And why is my ribs hurting from laughing

(03:39):
so hard. You come to the first show, you see
what it.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Is that we do.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
You're going to go back out and you're going to
tell all your friends and bring about ten more people
with you by then the second shows sold out. Hopefully
that's what we're looking for, and you're going to get
a completely different show than you got first time.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
This is the experience. Now people can see it on video,
watch it on television, all that stuff. I get it.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
There's only two movies that I can think of that
sort of make hypnosis more real as what it is.
Only a couple of movies that are out there, so
you have to feel the experience. You can watch it
on television or videos and you go, yeah, that's funny.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
I don't think that's real.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
But once you feel the energy of the room and
how good it feels. If they say laughter is the
best medicine, well I'm gonna fill you up with some
medicine this weekend and you're gonna feel fabulous. And after
you see the first show, you're gonna go tell your
friends and we're going to have a better show on
the next night.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
I do. I like to do that. I mean I
like to come into communities.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
I'm actually gonna be there a day early and sort
of hitting the streets and doing some up close magic
for everybody you know in a bar or restaurant, or whatever,
and you promote the show and get everybody out there
as we can.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
I'd love to fill that room up.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
I think that would be fantastic this Friday night, this
Saturday night again, Gary will be into Falls. Gary, thank
you so much for your time. I look forward to
seeing you this weekend.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Listen, brother, thank you for having me on your program.
It's been a great honor and a play as you're in. Yes, likewise,
I look forward to seeing you come up and say
hello to me.
