First of all veterans, so thank you for your service, sir,
no problem. We're going to talk today about Trail Life
(00:22):
USA because you guys are doing some special things with veterans.
And let's talk first about Trail Life USA. For somebody
listening is going to have never heard of that. You're
celebrating ten years right now. What is Trail Life USA.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Trail Life USA is a christ centered, boy focused scot
traditional scouting program and we've been in Sioux Falls for
ten years now. Sue Falls was the first one in
South Dakota. Nice we're proud of that fact, and we're
steadily growing.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
And it's expanding. We've got a couple of groups here
and there's other groups that are popping up. And this
is something that again across the country, there are people
saying we need something like this, and then they find out. Oh,
there is something like this called Trail Life. So there's
a network, there's a system, there's a way to set
it up. So excited for the people that are doing that.
And you guys have some things that you've been working on. Again,
(01:12):
with it being Veterans Day today, we thought we should
chat about some of this stuff. And you've been out
raising funds and getting things pulled together, So what is
the mission there.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Well been out in the community last few days trying
to get something special for the veterans that are going
to be stuck in the VA hospital over Veterans Day,
and I was floored by the outpouring of generosity.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
We get some great people here, by.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
The businesses in our community. I was absolutely floored. We
ended up raising about forty five hundred dollars in a
short period of time, nice worth of fooders, meal vouchers,
food vouchers, different types of things like that. We had
a couple of Christian bookstores donate necklaces, nice rosaries.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
That's very very cool and again, thank you for doing
what you're doing there. And we had a chance to
work with Trail Life, and I hope we will again
at the fireworks this year. But got ten thousand American
flags for US last year. We have some of those
left because we got a little bit of rain so
we didn't get to finish our event. But you guys,
it was amazing to have you as a part of
that and all of the young men that I had
a chance to meet at that event, just the nicest,
(02:24):
kindest young man. What are the ages for Trail Life?
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Five to seventeen is the age range for us.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
So kind of the school age kids. So there's elementary students,
here's middle school student. Centre's high school students. Are they
different groups for the different ages?
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Then yes, we have three different programs. We have the
Woodlands program for the youngest ones elementary age. For the
middle school age we have the Navigator's program, and for
the high school program we have the Adventures.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Nice and I know we've talked in the past about
camping trips. You guys have gone on and there's a
lot of fun things that you do throughout the year.
So somebody's listening is going, Hey, I've got a son,
I've got a grandsoner, I've got somebody that I know
that would probably like this. How do they find out
more about trail Life to become a member.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Well, they can simply go to Trail Life USA, the
national site, select find a troop and putting your information
find a troop nearest to you.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
They can also find you guys on Facebook. I know
Trail Life is on there and there's a SWU Falls
group on there, So if I want to find that,
just search for Trail Life on suit Falls on Facebook
and Sue Falls and I'm going to throw a link
to make it really easy to find on our Facebook
page as well. So are there things that you're looking
for still for the Veterans Day stuff or do you
kind of have everything you need now?
Speaker 2 (03:33):
I think we have pretty good care packages set up
for the veterans. And it's just been an honor working
with all these businesses. Nice. A few of the businesses
that really stepped up were Freddy's, Texas Roadhouse, and Red
Rob and Nice. All three of those they offered a
full meal voucher for the veterans.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
I love that. Again. The group that we're chatting about
right now is Trail Life USA and they reached out
to several businesses around Suo Falls and got some wonderful
things to give out today. With it being Veterans Day.
Thank you for putting your heart and soul into this.
I know you work on this stuff a lot, don't you.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah, it's kind of a labor of love. I got
involved with this last November and I liked I liked
what they were teaching nice. I wanted to be involved
with it, and I want to grow this in the state.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
And You've got a son that's in this group. Which
group of the three is he in?
Speaker 2 (04:25):
He's a Fox in the Woodlands program. He's one of
the youngest in the.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Program and very well behaved young man. He's not with
us in here today, but when he's in here, it's
always fun to have him. He's so inquisitive, wanting to
know what does this do?
Speaker 2 (04:35):
What does that do?
Speaker 1 (04:35):
So that's really cool and I hope the kids always
want to learn and being a part of trail life usay,
you get to learn some really neat things, don't you.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yes, we do all sorts of things, any type of
scouting thing you could think of, firewood working skills, how
disliked a campsite, how to set up at campsite. And
one of the things that really sets us apart is
kind of a ministry for Christianity, non denominational. That's good.
(05:08):
We're charted by churches, and I think that's great because
if our program we're going to start going off the rails,
the churches could put a stop to it.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
I love that again. Trail Life USA and they're doing
some special things today for Veterans Day. Thank you for
doing what you're doing. Thank you for stopping into chat
with us today.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Not a problem, Thank you for your time.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
