On today's episode of the Soweto Magz Podcast we are going to cover what happened this past weekend at AMPD STUDIOS. Last week Saturday was the kick off for the Put Me On Switch "Shoot Ur Shot Tour" the masterclass was hosted in collaboration with AMPD Studios, MTN and Redbull in New Town.

For those who don't know or never heard of "Shoot Ur Shot" it's a music competition show hosted by DJ Switch himself.

The show involves up-and-coming artists competing against each other, showcasing their skills, and "shooting their shot" to win a record deal, cash prizes, and other opportunities.

DJ Switch invited the platinum selling DJ and producer 031 Choppa who hails all the way from the 031 Durban. Soweto Magz actually got the opportunity to do an interview with 031 Choppa after the masterclass.

A lot was shared during the masterclass,
031 Choppa's journey as a producer and rapper. He shared his story, the challenges he faced during his journey and how he managed to tackle and overcome them.

Our very own host Shembas Mhlabawonke got to ask him how the transition from Hip Hop was to Amapiano, which will be shared separately on the Soweto Magz YouTube channel. He shared that he was surrounded by Amapiano producers most of the time and eventually he picked up a few tips and made hits alongside fellow stable producers at
Rap Academy.

He also mentioned that just because he moved to Amapiano, it doesn't mean that he stopped producing Hip Hop. He said that, from time to time he would make beat packs and send it to rappers.

Like his recent hit "WHAT'S THE QOH!" featuring the Qwellers and the legendary Okmalumkoolkat who also hail from the 031 except one of them.

DJ Switch and 031 Choppa also schooled us on what we call a split sheet which is an agreement between the artist, producer and other contributors/composers on the percentage of the song they own to avoid disagreements regarding the splitting of royalties.

They also dropped some knowledge when it comes to getting management as an artist. They said if you are still starting out, don't rush to get yourself a manager, manage yourself and learn the game and when you get yourself a manager don't just choose random people, they should be in line with what you do and they should understand that you're the artist not them, basically you have to get someone who believes in you.

Then after the masterclass there were performances, artists hopped on the stage and gave it their best.

Dj Switch actually said that last week's "Shoot Ur Shot" masterclass was the biggest in terms of attendance. We had people from the Vaal, we had people coming all the way from Limpopo and the KZN.

It really shows that Johannesburg is the centre of South African Hip Hop cause a majority of artists come from all over South Africa to come to Johustleburg to pursue their music careers.

Fellow's table producers, replicating me.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Example that if you're I might be on a producer

Now he's on a piano.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
You know, he's killing it, and maybe he's no longer

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Every time or maybe really is like three or available.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
He makes beats and like he combines them into like
be packs and sends sends themount to I mean to
like rappers. That's how we're going to work with Costa
tage on his Ulpum Madian Africa shout out man rastling
peace to the great to falling Costa Titue did young
but yeah, like it's his saying hit what's the what's.

Speaker 3 (04:37):

If you check out the US's magazine issue had dropped
this year issue number one. Actually there's actually an also
about the Colors and they story.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
DJ Switch and Otto and trop but also schooled us
on what we call a.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Speechheet, which is basically in a careman between the artists,
the producer and other contributors slash or composers or the
percentage of the song they own to avoid to secrements
regarding the splitting of royalties.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Artists, this is for you.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
When you buy a beat, you don't have to sign.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Or what we call a speech sheheet, but if.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
The producer at least to sell you fifty percent of
the beat, then you have to like sign Speechyet Okay,
when the reality start coming up, everybody must get something
in the pocket for us.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Don't be crazy.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Even if there's like someone no contributor to the song.
Maybe someone is like change your verse at the slide.
He's also a contributor. He's also a composer, meaning he's
supposed to get some things to get a royalty from
the song.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
Don't take it just now. He's my boy. Nah, he's
my boy. Nah. It doesn't work like that. Man, Music
is a business, you know, music, Music is a business.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
But yeah, they also drop knowledge when it comes to
getting management as an artist. You know, they said, if
you're still studying out, don't rush yourself to get a manager.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Manage yourself and lend the game.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
And when you give yourself a manager, don't just choose
a random people. They should be in line with what
you do. Then you should understand that you're the arswers,
not them. Basically, you have to get someone who leasing
you first, from the beginning of the year, like from
like the last quarter of the year to like Jan fab.
I used to get the years from IG but like

(06:48):
Yo Chambers, I see what you're doing.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Can it be my manager? Because I used to be
a manager.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
You know, I've got DMS Because of that, I trick
a step back because now I like working with people,
so I don't like re checking me like nah, I'm
already you know, so I took a step back, like,
no know what Ley may not be a manager anymore,
but let me barslope be in the music business as
a consultant.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Step for creative consultant and shiver you gonna call it?

Speaker 2 (07:17):
You know. Then after the master class, there was some performances,
fire performances, you know, shoot the room.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
I was spared to drop off a rock by now,
but because of schoolmen, couldn't find the time.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
But probably I'm if I find time today, I must
start editing today, then probably drop it like tomorrow or Sunday,
even though it's gonna be a week late.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
That yeah, there to understand. Editing processes long, super long,
but they are and actually fun. F it did you
say that? Lets the shout are short?

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Master tuss the biggest in terms of attendance because we
had artists, artists from the Vial from Soway to hear
from Soway too, like me. We had people from the Obo.
I think we have people from Kingston and also coming
all the way just to attend the master class. That
kind of shows the dedication some artists have when it

(08:20):
comes to their career, the serious theyse whatever it is
us is to make things happen found out online definitely
show like Yo Switches, you know Switch is hosting this.
Let me vibe even if I'm on the way in
Capet and I'm gonna make away that I'm late, even
though said as all so they basically goes to Cape

(08:42):
Town and but if you're not mistaken, those artists will
make it a way and also be they to represent
their hometown, so which is what we need before. But yeah,
it kind of shows that Johnn's Big is the center
of South African hip hop cause the majority of artists
come from all over the country to come in pursue

(09:05):
and music careers enjoy Hussle.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Bird, Josie and so like.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Also me, I'm from soaway too, but I still see
myself in Josie running in the streets of Josie Push
I want to do, doing interviews, attending events. There's say,
whenever I get the chance came into Josie, I make
sure I make the best.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Out of it.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
I don't come back empty handed. That's all I told myself.
Because I don't go to Jersey all the time, like
maybe once a month, twice a month. So whenever I
