Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Spacing Out with bb and Jason this week
covering Battlestar Galactica Season three, episode eighteen, The Sun Also Rises.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Ye, welcome back.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
I'm Beebe and I'm Jason, and this is spacing Out
where we discuss a piece of film or television, and
of course you know we're talking about Battlestar Galactica. If
you are new to the show, we will have a
clearly marked spoiler section at the end of the podcast
where we are free to talk about anything in the
future of the show. Otherwise, for the main part of
the podcast, we won't be spoiling anything past this episode,

(00:38):
which is Battlestar Galactica Season three episode eighteen, The Sun
Also Rises. This aired on March eleventh, two thousand and seven.
Written by Michael Angelly, directed by Robert Young. The survivor
account was forty one, three hundred and ninety nine people,
which is a loss of one to account for Starbuck Sad.

(00:59):
In this episodeisode, Leadama is tasked with protecting Romo Lampkin,
Baltar's new lawyer, and find himself going up against his
own father, who himself is appointed as one of the
five judges. In Baltar's Trial.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Vibe check. Did we like the episode overall? How does
it stand the test of time?

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Vibe check?

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Thanks. I wasn't really interested in it. It was easy
to get distracted from, which is not great.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
At first, when the lawyer showed up, I'm like, is
this Daredevil? What's going on the glasses and the lawyer
isn't Daredevil a lawyer?

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yeah, so I was like, what show am I watching
right now? And then he had like a superhero voice
and his like persona was just so off putting to me.
I know they were trying to make him look mysterious
and cool and full of swagger, but it just hit
me like, like, no, it was not working for me

(02:04):
that formula. No. I like him, Yeah, he's written for
men probably yeah, and I don't. That's what really turned
me off. It was definitely the male perspective for the
male gaze of like this lawyer guy. I like him
at the end when he was sick or whatever. But
it was okay. It wasn't great. Not my favorite episode.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Yeah, this episode, like I always when I see it
coming up, I always kind of forget, like what happens
in this episode because like I know, we're moving towards
the Baltar's trial for the end of the season, and
the previous episode is all about Starbuck. I'm like, what
happens in between that? And it is just kind of
a transition episode to like we're going to focus on

(02:47):
some of the grieving from the loss of Starbuck and
we're kind of setting up the pieces for a Baltar's trial. Yeah,
and there's a little storyline with the bombs going off
and who did it, But that's not I don't even
focus that it. It's like a big mystery they're solving.
Really No, but yeah, I know it's it's a little
bit about grief and it's it's okay. I would never

(03:08):
like pick this episode out to be like I want
to show someone Battlestar Glack to go watch this.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yeah, watch this episode about this lawyer doing a weird
job and these other guys crying. Yeah, there was no
action I was. I would just say, like middle of
the road transition episode.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Yeah, nothing about it makes me hate it.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
It's not I mean a little bit that like the
character was just like a lot to me, it felt
like ham So it was pandering. He was like, I'm
in the matrix, I wear sunglasses and doors. It's so
dark in here, and I'm like, please, dude. And then
he has a cat and I'm like, okay, so where
are we? Who are you? And now he's an orphan too.

(03:50):
I'm like, they just kept developing this character and I'm like,
I don't care.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Yeah, apparently they have cats on in the colonies.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Yeah, who travels with their cat without a carrier or
a leash or whatever.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
It wasn't a carrier. This got out.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Tricky tricky, tricky cat. But it's the only reason that
they were saved from that bomb.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Trivia time, What facts could we uncover for? The Sun
Also Rises?

Speaker 3 (04:18):
So the episode's title is a pun on the title
of the nineteen twenty six Ernest Himingway novel The Sun
Also Rises, and the Battlestar episode Son is Son, I guess,
referring to Leodama rising up against his father and the.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Colony a lot of like the people in the colonies
to believe Baltar's.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Like, yeah, guilty. Yeah. There doesn't seem to be any
other connection to the novel though, other than the title.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
I haven't read it. I've been meaning to, but havingways
hard to read sometimes he's clear, but he's also drunk.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
This was the first time that a main cast member's
name has been removed from the opening credits. It's Katie
Sakoff no longer appears. The model ship that a Dama
destroyed and the last episode is still sitting on a
shelf in his quarters. It's all damaged.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
I did not notice that Easter egg.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
The assassination of Baltar's lawyer was inspired by attacks on
Saddam Hussein's defense team, because like a lot of things
from the show, they're pulling from current events with Iraq.
And then, like the other episodes this season, there was
a deleted scene that they put at the end of
the episode where, in this case, Athena accuses Cali of

(05:29):
planting the bomb and it escalates with Calli pointing Athena's
gun out of Athenis chest.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Oh again, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
She decides not to pull the trigger because of Athena's family,
and Athena grabs a gun and says she will kill
Cali herself if it turns out she planted the bomb.
Oh drama, Like, we could have used some of that tension.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
We needed it. It would have made the entry. I
would have had something to say about the episode if
that happened, because you know how I love to see
Cali in danger.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
Deep space.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Die.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Let's break down some of our thoughts on the episode.
You can share your thoughts with us through email, Facebook,
or Twitter. We may use your comments on an upcoming episode.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
So what do you want to talk about first?

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Chaselon, Well, we're living in a post Starbuck world.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Here, right, There's no one to fill the void of
the mundane. It feels like that's what they're saying with
Lea Doma. At least every day's running into itself. Every mission,
every run that they're doing feels the same because there's
not that person to kind of break it up for
you and take you out of the monotony a little bit,
which is fair because you do need that grounding point,

(06:40):
whatever it may be, to kind of remember, remind you
it's a different day. It's a different I don't know.
It's kind of like when you're driving and you forget
you're driving and all of a sudden you're home. Yeah, Like,
how the fuck did I just get home and survive
traffic and all of that. Times I feel like Kira's

(07:01):
like the music or the podcast that like keeps you
there on the road.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
Yeah. So, like I mentioned, everyone's kind of grieving in
their own ways. Oh yeah, we see. You know, Adama
takes it pretty hard. He's like going through her record
all of her her birthday cards, Yeah, her birthday cards,
but her like disciplinary notes and stuff too.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Yeah, because that's totally a part of her.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
Yeah. Yeah. Lee is not present mentally for a lot
of things.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
He's floating.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
He refers to Racetrack as Starbuck at one point. It's
really awkward.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Everybody's sad about it. They're like, let's just move on, please, Yes, this.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Is awkward, And then honors Anders. He is drunk up
on top of a one of the vipers.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
How did he get there? How did he get past
security and whatever kind of like credentials that you have
to get to get on that part of the ship.
Surely there's protocol.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
Yeah, I don't know. I know, like they built the
bar in part of the hangar deck, so maybe there's
a back door. He just ducked under the rope, got
oh I could.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
I was dumb. Then when he fell off the plane,
I'm like fucking drunk, dude, man, he was flipping that
coin every time too. Maybe he put his way in.
I don't know. He's having a hard time.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
Yeah, so he's off screen most of the episode dealing
with his leg injury.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
I guess it looks like And then even Colonel Ti
mentions how it's quiet, and Gata says, yes, sir, and
that's all we get from them too. Yeah, but yeah,
so it's a sharp presence is definitely missed throughout the ship.
And then one guy was like, I'd rather it be
somebody else in Starbuck's not here. It's not fair or whatever.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Oh yeah. Early in the episode, a bomb goes off
inside a raptor and kills Baltar's lawyer, who's kind of
the very creepy guy. The lawyer, Yeah, the first lawyer
that dies.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
Explain his creepiness to me.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Racetrack was talking about him whispers and like whispers behind
her head when he's wearing a helmet.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
At least she had the helmet. Then he's like, I'm
sorry he.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Takes his shoes off in the raptor.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
I can understand that we take our shoes off at
the I mean I take my shoes, not my socks
off in the airplane. Isn't that like an airplane ride.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
Well, I don't think they're doing like a three hour
flight or something.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
I don't know. Maybe they are.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
I don't know. Space is deceptively big, so maybe it
is long time. Yeah, that bomb goes off and everyone
is really concerned about racetrack and no one says anything
about the lawyer.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Yeah, subtle lawyer jokes.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
So then we meet Baltar's new lawyer, Romo Lampkin. Very
eccentric guy.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
He wants in for the money and bitches. That was
what turned me off immediately. He didn't like want to
just say like every man deserves his day, or you know,
my job is to uphold the law. He's like, no,
I want money, I want fame, I want accolades.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
I think he was saying that in jest.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
I believed him, so I didn't like. I don't take jests.
I'm very gullible. Okay, So when he said that, I
believed him, and I'm like, okay, that's weird. So maybe
that's why I should have been paying more attention, or
we should have. I should have asked you about it.
But as soon as he said that, I was like, oh,
I don't like this guy. He's weird. He just wants

(10:26):
to hang out with Baltar so he can get some
of that Baltar booty.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
No, I think he's definitely a weird guy. And so
I can see like you'd either like him or hate him,
like especially like you know, Starbuck has just died, and
they brought in this new character with a bunch of
like dialogue in this episode, Like it can.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
Be so much dialogue. I could barely understand him talk
so much. And then when he talked, they zoomed in
on him, they zoomed in on his face so hard,
and I was just like so upset that we were
so close to this stranger. Did you notice that when
they were at the bar and they were drinking before
he went to the bathroom, like they were like, this

(11:07):
is how much of his face you could see like
a third of it. I was so and he was
just talking and I'm like, they didn't even shave this man.
You could tell how close his shave was.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
It was bad.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
I don't know. I didn't like him, and I thought
it was interesting that him and Lea Dama were starting
to build a repertoire. I uh, I don't I didn't
understand it, and I didn't know, cause, like, is, why
is it Lee paying attention to his job instead of
like checking for bombs. He's just sitting there talking about

(11:42):
the law. I'm like, Lee, do your job. You were
supposed to check the crapper for a fucking toilet bomb
and you didn't even do that, Like, you didn't check
the raptor for a fucking bomb. The cat had to
lead you to it, Like you are not doing your job. Yeah,
thankfully he had a cat and somebody found a fucking
screw on the ground randomly. It was all luck. Lea

(12:05):
Dama should not be head of security. That was like,
what's that word? Nepotism? That was a nepotist job. Like, no,
he should not have had the job. He should have
just had some days off. But his dad's like, no,
you can't stop working. You always gotta be working, always,
no days off, because he said, I know you're upset

(12:30):
because I'm upset. And instead of saying take some time off, son,
you need it, we all need it, he's like, no,
I'm gonna put you on a different work assignment where
you have no experience and obviously you don't know how
to handle this job because you suck at it, and
then the guy ends up getting hurt to the point
where he can't be lawyering, so he failed at his job.

(12:53):
I was just like, what is this episode? You had
one job protect this man and he fails.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
Because there were two bombs sent after that guy. One
was found because a cat was loose, otherwise that ship
would have taken off, and then the other one was
found by the other I think there are marines that
were helping with security escorts.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
It was an escort, and he fucking jumped in the
front of the bomb and got most of the fucking
shrapnel in order for the lawyer to like, still not
be great. But if Leodama was there doing his fucking
job instead of drinking and talking about women that they've loved,
he would have he would have had an extra body

(13:36):
to protect him. What the fuck? Oh my god, I
was so confused.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
This episode was a trip.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
Yeah. Another part of Lampkin's centric personality is he's a
kleptomaniac and he's stealing items from all these people, the.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Little things that tell you about their personalities. He just
happened to steal a very important piece of evidence too, though, yeah,
whatever the fuck it was. It was some round disc
that apparently tied that person to the bombings.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
Yep. He also stole Roslin's glasses and something from a dama.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
Some girl's flip flop that would piss me the fuck off.
How do you get a flip flop? Like, is there
like a commissary or like a supply store for the soldiers?
There's just yeah, that sucks, Like what if she had
a barter to get those flip flops or they standard
issue and then like once you get one pair, you're

(14:34):
kind of done.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
You gotta go to the shoe store, yeah, or.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
The shiny button store. Apparently everybody's buttons are shiny except
for mister Adama's dad. But I thought that was interesting
that he noticed everybody's buttons are shiny except a damas.
So what did you think about Lampkin's interview style.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
I mean, he's like emotionally manipulative and he's not like
entire honest, although he does use elements of truth, like
when he talks about his his wife that died. You
don't know.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Probably he said something about a woman to Caprica, but
I didn't suppose that was his wife.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
I don't think he says the word wife in this
episode at.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Least oh spoilers. So wait, I'm confused because I'm obviously
I was confused. So if he's not doing it for
the fame, why is he doing it again for sarcasm?
Do we know his motive?

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Not really, He's just doing it.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
He's like, I'm a lawyer and I'm available, better call Saul.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
I mean, we learned that he's he's like studied under
Lee's grandfather, Joseph Adama.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
We don't know that. I don't trust him. I don't
trust him, so in my head, I'm like everything he's
saying is like potentially not even true. He just knows
this fucking security guard's name is a Dama, and he's
a high ranking officer, and he knows that no Dama
is going to be on the grand jury or whatever
the jury municipals or whatever they're called. And so he's like,

(16:05):
this Adama name seems important. Maybe I can use it
to my advantage to manipulate this guy, to maybe manipulate
his father. I don't know, Like, I don't know who
he is, so I cannot trust him, and I just
have bad vibes from him. Because he's not the Daredevil,
he's not blind, and he's still wears those sunglasses indoors,

(16:28):
like he's too cool for school. I don't get it.
And then he's like, I brought my emotional support cat.
I hope that's okay. Nobody. He didn't tell anybody, like, hey,
I have a cat on board. If you're allergic, let
me know. Like he didn't care it was a surprise.
You shouldn't bring a surprise cat anywhere. You should let

(16:49):
people know.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
No, I think it's fair to say, like, we don't
know his motives why he's taking this job, but I
feel like there's very few people that are willing to
take this job.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
So yeah, it's probably a short life.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
That's why Adama is just like, keep the man alive
for two weeks. Lee, that's one thing I need you
to do. Stop traveling within in the middle of the night.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
Yeah, but I mean, I don't know, does it matter
when he gets his stuff and does his stuff, Like.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
I don't know. Time seems like purely a construct in
this world. Yeah, because there's no one daylight in the middle.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
Of the night. We're always in the middle of the night. Dad,
We're in space we're in fucking space to the Long Night.
So Homie Lampkin explodes by the toilet and now he's
like in bed in hospital and he's like, check out
my devil bag. It's full of trinkets that I steal
from people, another untrustworthy like trait of a person. And

(17:43):
he's like, I'm gonna give you this, and if you
can help me out, maybe we can help you can
help me out, and he gives him Guias's pen, which
he's been using to manipulate everybody. I thought he was
gonna give it to number six so she could kill
herself and she wouldn't confess against him. I was ready
to see blood. That would have been some fucking thing

(18:04):
to happen in an episode, right. She grabs the pen
and stabs herself.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Awesome.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
No, she fucking picks it up and pushes it away,
and she's like, they won't even let me keep it, ma'am. Whatever.
This episode needed some spice.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
I don't know if you heard, but there was a
guy that just tried to stab someone in the cell
with a pin just the other day. So what gata?

Speaker 2 (18:28):
Oh yeah, yeah, So why did they even let him
bring that pen in don't they have X rays or something.
So Lee goes to his dad and his dad's like,
I'm reinstating you. You're back on your old job. I
made a mistake. And I'm like, no shit, he sucked
at this job. The guy he was supposed to protect
is in the hospital right now, and his dad's like,

(18:51):
I'm gonna miss like I need you on here, and
Apollo's like, no, Dad, I think the lawyer needs help.
And he's like, what do you mean needs help? I
need you on the ground. And I thought that was
so dramatic. Adama was like pissed, but then later he
like totally goes back on what he meant and he's like,

(19:11):
take my son off the board. He's too busy. He's
doing other things. And he's like whatever, I don't care
if he doesn't want to be here. I guess he's
got better things to do. He was giving me like
wilted mom energy, you know what I mean, Like when
you tell your mom like hey mom, I'm gonna have
to cancel dinner or something came up. She's like, well,
if that's how you feel or something like that. But

(19:33):
that little quip of he's got better things to do
or he's busy elsewhere kind of line is like such
a mom line. So that's it. That's the episode, right, Oh,
did you want to talk about the picture with Starbuck?

Speaker 3 (19:46):
Uh? Sure, I mean Apolo puts it up there next
to Cat. Eventually he carries it around the all episode.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
He's been trying to put it up without anyone noticing.
He's like sneaking it up there. Yeah, which makes no sense,
but he does put her next to Ca, which is
what they wanted. They talked about it in the last episode,
and I thought it looked sweet. I thought it was
a sweet gesture. And then after all the time of
him trying to sneak it up there, I feel like
Andres totally saw yeah, and Andres is like, yeah, I

(20:13):
get it, man.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
It sucks and checking the hallway every day looking for
that picture. Guys should be up here, Lisa, he's putting
it up.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Andres only has drunk pictures of him and Kara getting
like matching tattoos and stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
Like this is when we got drunk and got married.
This is when we got drunk and had the fight.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
This is when we got drunk and made up for
our fight. This is when we were drunk and cheating
on each other. That relationship, I don't see any other
ending for it, because I didn't see them leaving each other.
Like he's dedicated to her no matter what she does,
He's never gonna leave her, and she's married to him,
so she's like stuck with him. But I think she

(20:55):
likes him too, Yeah, but not enough to be like
faithful to him or keep him around for long periods
of time or live with him or make any sort
of family with him.

Speaker 3 (21:04):
Yeah, but he was aware and tolerant of who she was.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Yeah, rip Starbuck.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
Oh we didn't mention that they drew names for the
judges to serve on Baltar's trial, and of course a
Dama is soon to be one of them.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
That was such an antiquated way to pick. Let's put
all the names in a fish bowl, ringing around. It's
like a fucking bingo, like they were playing fucking bingo. Benine,
you win. They should have just played bingo and whoever
got bingo first, you're the first judge.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
Who had a Dama on their Bingo card.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
That was kind of funny. When they started drawing names,
I'm like, what the fuck are they doing for this war.
I was so confused. I'm like, wait, why are they
drawing names? And I didn't recognize any of the names
because they don't talk about any of the other captives. Yeah,
so it was just bizarre to me until they were
like tribunal judge and I'm like, oh, okay, okay, I
feel like more press should have been there, Yeah, to witness,

(22:09):
you know, make sure it was cool, not just like
all the names in their word dama all right.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
I wanted to mention that when Lampkin puts in the
code on his keypad and that bomb goes off, the
code is one two, three four.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
I mean, why would you make the bathroom code more complicated?

Speaker 3 (22:26):
I think he was going to his quarters.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
I thought he was going to the bathroom.

Speaker 3 (22:30):
I think he was going home. Take a crap.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
Oh and Apollo didn't walk him to his house.

Speaker 3 (22:35):
Yeah. Escorts, they're better.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
They do better than Apollo for sure. God, Apollo really
drop the ball this episode. Hopefully he can pick it
back up next one. It's in his court because he's
gonna be lawyering. How how does that work in like
a space situation where there's the laws are different, Like,
are there people who are studying the law and taking
their bar exam or whatever in this universe. Or is

(23:02):
it just like you're smart enough, you're probably good enough
to be a lawyer. We'll let you up here and
defend this guy.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
I think they have some version of the bar because
like Lee isn't going to be an attorney in this
like he's assisting Limpkin.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
Okay, astral Queen, who was the standout character in the episode?

Speaker 3 (23:26):
Did you have a favorite character?

Speaker 2 (23:28):
A favorite character?

Speaker 3 (23:30):
Is it the cat that saved them from the bomb?

Speaker 2 (23:33):
Didn't have a name? No, they didn't even name the cat.
That's so rude, like mister Squiggles. No favorite character. I'm
gonna give it to a DAMA senior. Oh yeah, for
putting Lee in the wrong role and then learning when
to take him out, and also for dealing with Starbucks stuff,

(23:56):
because he did it really well. It was the most
emotional part of the show, and it was the only
parts that I was really paying attention at because the
Dama was like magnetic. Who's your astral Queen?

Speaker 3 (24:07):
Good question. I mean, I'm not going to pick Lee.
We just spent this whole episode talking about how bad
he was at his job.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
He was just asking questions and like not paying attention.
It was bad.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
I don't think I can actually pick the cat for
the astral Queen.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
You don't have a name. I feel like without a name,
you can't really even you're not even a named character.
And you had such a pivotal plot point. How rude.

Speaker 3 (24:33):
So I mean after that, it's just like Gromo Lampkin.
I guess I'm trying to like think, like why why him? Why? Yeah,
Like he's interesting, for sure, and there's part of that
that like he's an actor from Firefly, so he's you know,
I recognize him from that, and he has such a
very specific voice that but that doesn't really factor.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
Into would you pick him? Because he was smart enough
to know that he would have to write that note
to what's his name? I know his name. He's on
trial Baltar. So he wrote that note and put it
in the envelope, and then after that he put the
pen in the envelope handed it to Leadama, knowing that
he was sending a message to Baltar that said, you know,

(25:16):
the son who turns his back on the father has
the most like willing conviction or some bullshit. I don't
like how he talks, so and he read that note
when you it was just like a lot, but it
was basically predicting that, like Leadama's turning his back on
his people, and that's like a good ally to have.
So is that why you maybe want to pick him?

Speaker 3 (25:37):
Sure? That sounds good. He was able to understand he
was manipulate what Lee was about to do before Lee
did it. Yeah, like because Lee hadn't fully confronted his
father when he wrote that.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
Right, right, because he put that in the envelope when
they were going through the Duffel bag and he licked
it closed, it was like a whole seat.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
All right, Well, that that's good then, all.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
Right, let's talk about spoilers.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
Man.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
Yes, we're going to do spoiler section, So if you
don't want to know what's happening in these next episodes,
we might talk about him. So don't listen. We'll see
you next time for the episode Crossroads Part one.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
Now it's goodnatto because it's spoilers and I'm ready.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
Let's put our.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
Living stereo stylist in this group.

Speaker 1 (26:24):
Brace for impact. Spoilers ahead. If you haven't seen the
whole series, now is the time to say goodbye. Remember
you can contact us at Spacingoutpod at gmail dot com,
find us on Facebook and Twitter, share your thoughts and
be a part of the discussion. Spoilers in five four

(26:46):
three two one.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
So yeah, what you were asking, Yeah, is Lampkin married
or he was married?

Speaker 3 (26:52):
I believe he was married. I believe we learned it
like later. So if he has this like this three
episode arc with Baltar's trial, then he comes back again
in season four and I believe the cat has died
and we learned like that was his wife's cat. He's like,
he's really broken up about it without.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
A name though. We'll see if he gets a name
when they finally dies. Yeah, maybe they can amend our
astral queen.

Speaker 3 (27:14):
The end of the series, he becomes the president of
the Colonies.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
Oh okay, well that's an upgrade. He did it. He
got the fame and fortune.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
Yeah, he stated his goals and he achieves it.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
So Lee's not going to be a lawyer. I'm so confused.
I thought he was on trial, like he was acting
like a lawyer.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
So he's a counselor. Yeah, he's like assisting Lampkin in
the trial. And he does end up giving like a
big speech in one of the next two episodes. Okay,
so but yeah, he's not the actual defense attorney, but
he is. He's part of that legal team basically, which
continues to piss off his father. Yeah what else. They
talked a lot about Joseph Adama in the episode. I

(27:58):
guess it's could have been like an okay boomer thing,
but too late for that. Joseph Adama is in the
show Kaprica. We had to see him lawyering around. I
don't remember what all he does.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
It sounds like he's a bad guy the way they
talk about him, how he's like lean Dama was like,
I'm not going to be like him, Dad, I'm going
to be different, you know what I mean. So he
must have been, and he's like he defended all that scum,
and I don't know how he could deal with living
with himself when he was defending murderers and getting them off. So, like,
the perspective of this person is like really weird.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
Yeah, because it seemed like a few episodes ago, like
Lee really looked up to him and was interested in
following his law career, and now.

Speaker 2 (28:39):
He's like a scum of the earth lawyer that He's like,
I don't want you to become your grandfather, but I
gave you those books to become like your grandfather.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
Yeah, very very wishy wash you all around.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
So that's why I was so confused. And then they
put him in a show. How is he portrayed in
that show? See a good guy or a bad guy?

Speaker 3 (29:00):
Remember I only watched Cabrica once and it's been a
long time, but I feel like he was a pretty
decent guy.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
Oh so maybe it was just the the perception of
him based on his clientele.

Speaker 3 (29:12):
Yeah. Probably. Wow.

Speaker 2 (29:13):
Okay, when's Kara coming back.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
The last moments of the finale? Oh? Wow? Of the
season with two episodes?

Speaker 2 (29:22):
Are they going to find her in space inside of
some ship?

Speaker 3 (29:25):
Yeah, I mean she shows up in her viper.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
Oh, it never exploded. Allegedly the gods fixed it.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
It's all very mysterious.

Speaker 2 (29:35):
Oh, and they never explain it. It's the ex Makina whatever.

Speaker 3 (29:39):
That's I don't know what.

Speaker 2 (29:40):
I think it's a movie with Christian Bale what.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
Yeah, I don't know. It's like much else from this
episode really needs discussed in the full context of the
show obviously, Like The Trials starts next week, so hopefully.

Speaker 2 (29:55):
It'll get good because this episode blew compared to most episodes.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
I think it will hold up pretty well. Okay, it's
a I mean it's a two parter, so it is long,
but I think they really do like the legal drama
very well.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
And you know, I love me a legal drama.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
Yeah, and then the second part the season finale really
drops a few bombs at the end, so yeah, during.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
The trial, can we get the line order?

Speaker 3 (30:20):
Dude?

Speaker 2 (30:23):
No, it's okay, I just I love line Order. It'd
be funny if this episode if the show did an
episode of line order, Community did it and it was iconic.

Speaker 3 (30:33):
Any other thoughts, feelings.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
I'm excited to see a Dama being really upset and
angry and being like asled bad at my son, and
then seeing all the other captains and see how their
voices are interjected throughout the process because it's not a
one man tribunal, and I hope that they can like
focus not on that because I don't remember much, so

(30:56):
it's like I'm watching a new season epis it is
new to me even though I've definitely seen the show before.
Sometimes I'll get glimpses and remembrances and I'll be like, oh, yeah.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
I feel like most of the things that you remembered
about the show before we started this, rewatch, I have
already like passed in the show.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (31:19):
Like I'm trying to think of, like, is there anything
from season four that like you have mentioned at all
of something you remember. I can't think of anything. Just
the watch Tower yep. Oh, we're going to get that too.

Speaker 2 (31:32):
Is that in the season yep?

Speaker 3 (31:33):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (31:33):
Joy? I want more information about the Watchtower music choice.
We'll talk about that, right.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
Yeah. I don't know how much information there is.

Speaker 2 (31:44):
It's not in the commentary.

Speaker 3 (31:45):
I mean it is, but I don't think you're going
to get like a deeper meaning behind that song choice
other than they wanted to use it.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
This show is definitely of its time, and I'm really
interested to see what they do with the new seasons
and the new episodes coming forward, if they get to them,
because I know it's been in the works forever.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
Now No the new show, Yeah, yeah, well I'm not
convinced that that's gonna happen. But oh wow, I don't
know anything.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
I mean, there's plenty of space shows. I really am
enjoying Star Trek a lot more to be honest, I'm
really enjoying it a lot more than I'm enjoying Battlestar Galactica,
just because it's like colorful and nuanced, and it's energetic
and lighthearted in ways, and it can feel episodic, but

(32:35):
I'm okay with that in this For context, we're watching
Deep Space nine right now.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
Yeah, so I know there's a lot of new Star
Trek out there too.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
And that's also really exciting and I really want to
get my little grubby fingers into that. But I think
we're doing it in order, so it's taken a while.

Speaker 3 (32:53):
Yeah, there's a lot of episodes, but I know there's
like characters from these shows that continue to like the
card and stuff, so I want to make sure, like
I have all the contexts before Joe.

Speaker 2 (33:04):
There's so much context tonight and it's the rich world,
So anything else, we're done.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
I think we're done.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
All right.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
We will be back, hopefully one week from the day
with Crossroads Part one.

Speaker 2 (33:17):
At the Crossroads Crossroad, you know.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
