Welcome to Spacing Out with BB andJason, this week covering Our Flag Means
Death Season two, episode eight.Merman, Yeah, welcome to Spacey Now.
My name is BB and I'm Jason, and we are discussing Our Flag
(00:20):
Means Death one episode at a time, spoiler free, and the series is
available in the streaming service Max formerlyknown as HBO. And since this is
the series finale, we won't behaving a spoiler section at the end because
we have nothing left to spoil. But if you stick around, we do
have a couple of things plans.First, I want to tally up all
the Astral Queen Awards and see whowas the winner overall. And then I
(00:41):
thought we could, you know, kind of speculate on what a potential season
three would look like or what wewould hope to see in it if it
were to have been made. Yes, and finally we're gonna announce what's next
for the podcast. So well, this is likely the final episode for Our
Flag Means Death. We will beback to cover other shows on our main
podcast feeds. So if you're listeningto this on the Spacing Out with Our
Flag Means Death feed, then dowant to hop over to the main feed,
(01:03):
spacing out BB and Jason. Well, you'll find all of these episodes,
plus we've covered all the Battlestar Galactica, some Star Trek, and we've
got more in the pipeline. Butfor now, let's discuss Our Flag Means
Death, Season two, episode eight, Merman. This originally aired on Occober
twenty six, twenty twenty three,Written by David Jenkins and John Mahone,
directed by Fernando Frias. In thisepisode, Ed struggles to make fishing a
(01:27):
successful career move. He returns tofind the Republic of Pirates now under the
control of Prince Richard and the RoyalNavy. Retrieving his leathers, he finds
one of Steed's messages in a bottle, and the pair are soon reunited,
joining forces with Jang g Sal andthey returned to Spanish Jackie's only to find
she has poisoned the Royal Navy officersin the bar. The skies in the
dead officers' uniforms. The Pirates infiltratethe garrison, killing many of the soldiers
(01:51):
before escaping into the sea. Izzy, mortally wounded, reconciles with Ed before
drawing his last breath. Lucius andBlack Pete are married and ed and Steed
retire to a life of innkeeping. What a show man? What a show?
Five check? Did we like theepisode overall? How does it stand
the test of time? It hada lot. I can't believe they fit
(02:15):
all of this into one episode, and it was so satisfying. You know,
there's like oppression, revenge, afuneral, a wedding, and a
retirement going a retirement. All thelife milestones were happening, Like the one
thing we were missing was like thebirth of a child. But I mean,
(02:38):
yeah, so this being season finalethat ultimately became the series finale,
Like, do you feel it itholds up in that regard? Yeah?
Yeah, I think it works wellfor both where there's room for it to
like, you know, you canspeculate what will happen, you know,
but it's it's also a very solidending for us to leave them here.
(02:59):
Yeah. I mean, it's notlike season one where we were left longing
for these characters to be back together. You know, it ends in a
place where we get satisfaction. There'sstill loose ends. We still kind of
wonder like what's next for a lotof them, But I think they definitely
made the right call to have itwrapped up to a point where if they
didn't get to continue that it wouldfeel satisfying. Trivia time. What facts
(03:25):
could we uncover from Merman? Allright? Well, a little bit of
trivia. On January ninth, twentytwenty four, the series was officially canceled
by Max. Series creator David Jenkinshas stated that the original plan was for
three seasons, and there was afan funded campaign dubbed renew as a Crew.
It was launched and raised enough fundssurround both a Billboard and Times Square
(03:46):
and a plane flying over Hollywood withthe message save our Flag means Death,
and other campaigns continued as well underthe banners of Adopt our Crew and SAVEFMD
Crew. But in March twenty twentyfour, alongside thanking fans for their efforts,
series creator David Jenkins announced that theirefforts to revive the series and find
a new home on another streaming platformwere unsuccessful. Wall it was too gay.
(04:11):
It was too gay. Okay,we didn't sign up for this gay
stuff. Yeah, we wanted apirate show with tough guys. You said
this was about like black Beard andpirates and swashbuckling. Now we have madies
mating deep sea dive. Let's breakdown some of our thoughts on the episode.
(04:31):
You can share your thoughts with usthrough email or social media. We
may use your comments on an upcomingepisode. All right, well, end
of the episode, we have blackBeard and his peaceful fishing retirements. He
sucks. You would be the worstperson to work with. I remember when
I used to work in jobs thatrequired team effort and having that one coworker
(04:56):
who didn't do their fair share, and how much I fucking hated that per
I hate working with them. Ihated their personality. I hated the way
they talked, the way they walked. I hated everything about them. And
I could I felt so much empathyfrom the sailors or the fishermen having to
(05:17):
deal with this like lazy bum whodoes nothing, has no skills, has
no qualifying like skills to do thething he said he would help them do
if they told him he could come. It meant they needed a third man.
Yep. And he's just like ponderingthe fish scales and like living in
(05:41):
this kind of fantasy with being onewith nature, very like eat prey love,
and I'm like, girl, you'reat a job. I think they
needed hard labor. Yeah, andthen he insulted them by continuing to emphasize
how simple they were. He's like, all these simple fishermen and their simple
(06:01):
lives and there's simple ways. Andthe mother, like the older fisherman,
was just like pissed off. He'slike, you fucking suck. Don't call
me simple, bitch. It's likeBlackbeard has zero social cues. Growing up
as a pirate has not taught himhow to like cohabitate or co mingle with
(06:26):
real people. Yeah, so hedoesn't have a lot of transferable job skills
in that regard. We'll see howwell he does as an innkeeper. Well,
I guess we won't see, butwe can imagine. We saw it.
And when he was in the gravybasket. Yeah, so yeah,
they tell him to go back towhatever he did before. Yeah, if
you were ever good at anything,to do that, because you suck at
(06:47):
everything else. So he goes andhe finds his leathers. No, he
finds that his pirate bay is collapsed. There are ships a muck and there
are British soldiers telling him he can'tfish there. And he's like well,
I guess I must do what Imust do. I must safe Steed,
I must figure out myself and becomea pirate again. And then he gets
(07:11):
his leathers, he kills two Britishsoldiers and then he decides to go back,
and then he emerges from the waterlike this epic figure. Right,
So did he get dressed in thewater then, because he comes out of
the ocean. That's that's semantics.Okay, we don't talk about what how
he got dressed or what he did. Okay, He's like, I gotta
(07:33):
make a dramatic entrance. The entrancewas epic. It was really cool.
It was some one of the coolestshots. And then I love that they
cut so you didn't see like thefull body. You just saw him like
emerging like kind of like a sharkin the water or something. And then
they cut something else and it waslike, oh, man, black Beard's
(07:55):
back. Oh it was so good. Meanwhile, Jackie is being forced to
serve the Navy, the British officerswho she tormented, specifically Richie or whatever
his name is. Yeah, he'slike relishing in his power dynamic shifting.
(08:16):
He is like forcing her to donasty things and treat him like he's the
best patron in the world. Andone of the British officers is like,
aren't you worried that she's poisoning us? And he's like, oh, I
have a poison tester. And yousee Swede in the background just getting like
waterboarded with wine rum or whatever they'redrinking, and it was like, wow,
(08:39):
and I love that. At theend of the episode, when we
find out Spanish Jackiing was poisoning them, but that sweet is poison trained.
Unbeknownst to him though, Yeah,he's like, am I gonna die?
He's so unaware. I just lovethat. Jackie's like, I have a
contingency. We are all isn't trainedin our family. So she was playing
(09:03):
chess when he was playing checkers.Yep. I love that. And but
yeah, he and he captured likea majority of the crew, and even
we find out Auntie is alive.Yeah, she was in the back of
that cell covered up. Yeah. And before that, we find Steed and
Gyang escaped capture and they're under thebridge that's collapsed, and she's kind of
(09:30):
just like mourning the loss of Auntiebecause she has no idea that she's alive.
Yeah, and it really slows herdown, like it causes her to
not be reactive and active in away that she would be like when those
British officers approach them. Yeah, she's kind of given up. And then
even when she does decide to golike take action, she kind of assumed
(09:50):
like he's going to die in thisprocess, but she has nothing left to
live for her whole crew and Antiand her fleeting. Yeah. Yeah,
I think the of Chosen Family wasreally strong in this, especially when that
the noseguy Ricky finds out that IzzyHands is among his captured and he pulls
(10:13):
them out to have a drink withhim, and Izzy Hands explains to him
why he will never be a truepirate. He can like, you know,
capture everyone in end piracy and bethe best pirate like logistically, but
to be a pirate means to holdthis Chosen Family above everything else. It's
part of like he said, youare part of something people accept you,
(10:39):
and the whole world tells you you'renothing. And that was so beautiful the
way that he monologued that, theway that he explained kind of what Chosen
Family means, and that's like theheart of the show. Yeah, and
it's just like really well articulated andemphasized in this conversation by one of the
characters that has learned it in someof the hardest ways. Yeah. Like,
(11:03):
I definitely think that's at the forefrontof is he's mind these days,
because well, they're set to die, right, They're gonna hang. They
don't see a way out, SoI think he's but yeah, he's been
kind of grappling with and accepting howthe crew is what establishes him in the
world and what centers him in away that feels like there is love and
(11:28):
family and belonging and something. Youdon't get that if you're like a neerty
well pirate, right. So it'sjust like, I don't know, I
just really enjoyed that monologue and thatthat conversation. I'm glad that they touched
on it and they kind of laidit out. I think a lot of
us understood the nuances and the likeundertones of all of this playing out,
(11:52):
but to say it, I thinkis really powerful. Agreed. Yeah,
It's like one of the thesises ofthe show. Yeah, And I think
that's really what helped like round itout for me and made me feel like,
okay, this is and it alsomade it hurt more when he died.
It just made it hurt so muchmore because you see this character who
(12:13):
has grown so much and who isa beloved character now to be lost from
some petty little bitch. Oh.It was like it was almost anti climactic
the way he dies, Yeah, because it's just a shot, like a
random, like like not even aimed, just a shot in the dark that
happened to hit him in a criticalpart of his body. And I was
(12:35):
like, like, what do youdo? The Crew new like the Crew
New, but Blackbeard was so desperate, like trying to save him because I
feel like Blackbeard finally understood like theirrelationship, like they both were at odds
at sometimes and they weren't on thesame page. They hurt each other,
(12:56):
and now I feel like there waslike an opportunity for them to be like
together in a way that was likehealthy. But it's gone because he's obviously
not going to survive. This sotragic. I just the arc of Easy
Hands is just so tragic and sobeautiful and unexpected. Like you, I
(13:18):
don't think I want a season threeif there is no Easy Hands. You
know, it's really interesting how hebecame such a big part of the heart
of the show. Like I probablywouldn't have said that in season one,
No, but he really grew thisseason. Yeah. Yeah, And that's
what I think why I personally feellike this is a good ending, just
like because I mean I wish theywould have been as like thoughtful whenever they
(13:43):
wrote out other characters or they weren'table to come back or whatever, they
didn't get invited back from season one. We had a couple from Blackbeard's crew
who died off like or were likeexpelled. Yeah, there was even and
you know, we never really gotto know him. No, I can't
(14:03):
really tell you anything about him otherthan he was like present and like visually,
I think you saw like him andFang and Izzy as kind of like
a trio at first, And Ithought that was kind of a missed opportunity
when I mean, if they weregoing to just like write him off off
screen like that, they're like whenFang and black Beard went out on that
fishing boat together, that they couldhave brought him back for an episode,
(14:24):
show some flashbacks about them like leavingor something. I don't know, I
just like discuss how like it wasobviously like that was traumatic for Fayg to
like have lost one of his friends, his crewmates, and have black Beard
like not give a shit about it. Yeah. Yeah, that's so.
That's like one thing that I thoughtabout when I was watching them kill Izzy
(14:48):
and give him like lay him torest and everything, Like, I was
like, dang, so like Ieven didn't get any of this, and
it would have been a good juxtapositionto show the difference between you know,
Blackbeard then and how he treated hiscrew and how like a death would have
affected him then versus now too.Like I don't know, I just always
(15:11):
think about that. I don't knowwhy, I guess because not a lot.
This isn't like the Game of Thrones, where like a character dies in
every episode that's like part of themain crew. So it's like hard to
grapple with the loss without having anysort of backstory or anything. It's just
like, oh, he's gone,I'm so sorry bye, and then that's
(15:31):
it. We mentioned it once.Yeah, it's like they didn't really want
to talk about it. They justhad to give it a line. Yeah,
okay, So I like that theybring back the Pinocchio reference. Yeah,
they're all very familiar with that story. I think I mentioned this before,
but Pinocchio actually hadn't even been writtenyet at the time this is set.
Yeah, so when the crew escapesfrom the jail cell, they've been
(15:52):
the bars with the shirt and theyhave someone has a pee on the shirt
to make it wet, to makeit work. That is a scene out
of Shanghai Noon, the Jackie chanOwen Wilson movie. Oh, I haven't
seen that. I don't know ifit's in like other movies, if it's
like a trope or something. Butwait, I haven't seen that recently.
I saw that like when it cameout back in the nineties. Yeah,
(16:14):
well they escaped from the cell doingthat same thing if you see keep your
Shirt. Yeah, but that Idon't remember seeing that in the actual show.
That was like at the end creditsthey talk about needing to do it
in the show, like someone needsto pee on this to make it work.
And then in the post credit sceneyou see they've bent the bars with
it and Frenchy's skinny enough to getthrough. Yeah, And I guess there
(16:34):
was also a Mythbusser's episode to saidthat wouldn't work. Yeah, okay,
otherwise we'd have escaped prisoners all thetime. What else, we had a
lot of a lot of sword playgoing on. Yeah. I love the
scene where Blackbeard is mowing down hisset of British troops and then Saying and
(16:56):
Bonnet are encountering their own set andthey're fighting through and they then black Beard
and Bonnet see each other and theyrun towards each other and they back.
They they flash back to a differentscene where they did that too. I
don't remember if that scene was fromthe Gravy Basket or not. No,
it was from the season two episodeone. Steve is like writing his letters
(17:21):
and it's like dreaming. Yeah,it's like a dream sequence. I think,
Okay, he encounters like is heon the beach and then he like
fights him and then encounters black Beardand they run and hug and then yeah,
into reality. Yeah. I noticed, like when they were on that
beach, I'm like, this looksa lot like the beach from that scene,
or like, are they going tokind of do that run towards each
other again? And they did.Yeah, it was very satisfying. And
(17:45):
then they're like, oh, yeah, there's still a fight with a bunch
of British officers that we need totake care of. And all Awande and
Auntie have a heart to heart aboutlike I don't know, it's just like
how zang me somebody to be softbecause she's so tough. I don't you
can talk about it, can I? Yeah, he's just helping Auntie to
(18:07):
be there for Zaying in the waythat she needs. Yeah. I.
Meanwhile, Jim is like Yankee metalshards out of me Auntie and they're just
like nonchalantly talking and all Awandi's likeokay, like gagging because there's like blood
and gore, and she's just likeno, no, tell me, like
(18:29):
I want to understand. And thenwhen they when Auntie and Saying see each
other, Alawande's like soft, auntysoft, and she says that she's proud
of her, which is something youknow she's felt, but she's never vocalized
and that's so cool. I lovethat. And then they hug and they
probably never hug, right, Oh. I love that relationship. I love
(18:52):
that they they have their moment becauseit was traumatic for Saying to lose her
her auntie, her mother, figure, her confidant, her first mate,
Like it's it would be devastating, and it is devastating when we see it
happened to Blackbeard, you know. And I think she has like a lot
more compassion for it now that she'sexperienced it. So she's like kind of
(19:18):
extending an olive branch and saying, how like, hey, we want to
kill the same guy. Do youwant to team up? And I swear
I thought they were gonna Yeah, there was no indication that they weren't going
to. Yeah, it was surprised. It was like a total surprise to
see them at the inn. Yeah, and uh there's a wedding in there
too, with black Peat and Lucius. Yeah, they're Mati's And yeah,
(19:38):
I mean I assume that despite that, Auntie is still alive, she's still
lost a lot in terms of peopleand possessions, Like yeah, I mean
she lost her whole routine, herwhole like crew. She was like thinking
about like how in the morning theywould wake up and do taichi and all
this like beautiful group. Like shehad an emp that she has just lost,
(20:02):
and she will. I mean,I don't know how long it's going
to take for her to rebuild,if she will rebuild, Like, we
don't know these things. These arethings that we don't get answers to because
of the longevity of the show. This is not something where we're ever going
to find out, but it issomething we can speculate, you know,
like how does she move on fromthis trauma? But I think it helps
(20:25):
to have people with you that canunderstand, like your loss. Yep.
And now they're all part of thefamily. Yeah. And I love that
Spanish Jackie's in here too. Yeah, Spanish Jackie and the Swede were on
the ship as well. Yeah.I think they're talking about how they're going
to start a new bar somewhere.Yeah, tavern. And it appeared that
Frenchie was acting as captain. Didyou get that at least he was the
(20:47):
one given orders. Maybe, so, I think that's what we're to draw
from that, unless unless he wasthe first mate to someone else. But
think he's in the captain's seat now. And Steve and Ed are innkeepers.
Yeah, next to he's great yep. And then a little bird lies in
there, a seagull specifically who weare most likely to believe is But I
fucking died right there. I wasdead. I was deceased. Bury you
(21:12):
neix Isy, Yeah, Okay,Yeah, this show is great. I
can't speak its praises more than Ialready have. It's it's an incredible show.
It's got heart, it's got likecomedy, it's got like strong,
like competent characters that evolve. It'sso good. It's just it's to me,
(21:33):
it has everything that I want fromlike a feel good show. Yeah.
I mean thinking back to like episodeone or it just seemed like this
is kind of a silly pirate showabout an EPs captain trying to pretend to
be a pirate, and just howmuch it evolved from there. Yeah.
Yeah, this guy who abandoned hislife is wealthy well to do like persona
(21:55):
to become this wealthy well to dopirate, like he just like dressed up.
He was like putting lipstick on apig basically and trying to pass it
off as like something that was notlike, but he learned and like at
the end, Zaying gave him likea heartfelt compliment of saying, like you're
(22:15):
a passable pirate or you're pretty goodat it. If I have to tell
you, things work out for him. He's very lucky, and I like
that. I don't want to seelike our main characters losing all the time.
So it but it's just I don'tknow, it's just like I can't
see this show without Easy. Itjust it's so hard to think about it
(22:36):
without this character, especially with allthe new growth, Like I would have
loved to see him like be incharge or be like part of the group
again. Like I don't know,it's just so sad to lose him.
I just can't get over it.Like I think during all of our spoiler
sections, I always talked about howfucking upset I am that he dies,
(22:57):
and it's just I don't know,Well, yeah, I think the show
would be a little hollow without him. It'd be very hard to watch it
without this like character that's grown somuch, Like you don't eat the payoff.
You got like a taste of it, but there could have been so
much more there. And I wonderif they killed him off just to give
(23:18):
it, like because they knew theywere done anyway, but they didn't know
they were canceled until January. Yeah, so I wonder if the actor was
like I've had enough. I meansometimes it's like a sacrifice like that.
Just I mean, like what theyaccomplished in this episode had a cost to
it. Yeah, and that costwas easy and that was a difficult one
to swallow. Yeah, it reallywas. It really made this like episode
(23:41):
super emotional, Like it's just itwas so hard not to cry. And
the only reason I didn't cry wasbecause I've already seen it. This is
like your first time watching it.Like, I hope you had Kleenex.
I hope you had a little blankye. I hope you had like support system
to get you through this, becauseit's so hard because not only are you
losing one of the best one ofwell, there's so many good characters,
(24:04):
but he was just really good. And then but we're also saying goodbye to
a show. The show is over, there's no more of it. There
never will be again. And Idon't know if anything that's come out lately
even meets the standard of this showin terms of diversity, humor, Like,
this show never felt like it waspandering to the queer audience, you
(24:27):
know what I mean, like gaybaiting or anything. It was like,
but it wasn't like explicitly like thisis a gay show, Like we're not
queer as folk or the L word. But this show felt like it was
just incorporating queerness in such a naturalway that I just I haven't seen it
in television again, and I'm reallysad about it. Yeah, and you
(24:51):
can pick and choose shows that likehave incorporated, you know, a gay
couple, a queer couple, ora queer storyline or something, but like
this was like fully realized and inthat in that community in so many ways.
Yeah, it wasn't just talking abouta pair of people who happen to
be gay and every once in awhile the storyline will be like, oh,
look at that, they're gay. It's like the fiber of the queer
(25:17):
community was like spread out and threwout, woven into this like storyline and
this community of people, like thecrew that it was just so well done.
Well speaking of the crew, shouldwe move into the next section to
Yeah, I could gush about theshow for like hours. So yeah,
let's astral Queen. Who was thestandout character in the episode? If you
(25:45):
had to get a tattoo to commemoratethe show, what would you what would
you do? I know mine mineis the kitty cat flag, the flag
with the kitty that they slow up, That would be mine. Did they
fly that at the end? Didthey fly a flag? No, we
didn't see one. We didn't seea flag. We should have brought that
(26:06):
back. Yeah, I don't know. I'm trying to think of like an
object or a symbol as opposed tolike putting a person on me, like
a bird. Yeah, I couldput a seagull, and like, change
is always possible, Change is alwayspossible. That's a good one. I
like that. Who's your astral queen? This one is so hard because so
(26:26):
many people did so much and sowell. Yeah, like everyone was involved
in like the Escape and the Yeah, like Spanish Jackie could be one.
I think I might give it toSpanish Jackie because I've never given her one,
I don't think. And she reallysurprised me. And I just love
Leslie Jones and I'm really sad thatshe's not going to be in the next
(26:47):
season, you know. Yeah,I love that she was. She was
a step ahead of them. Yeah, she was playing chess. They were
playing the role of nerdy. Well, yeah, she's like, oh woe
is me? You won, youbested me. But she was and she
was bid in her time. Whodo you pick? Since like the playing
field is fairly even with everyone havingdone their part in this. I kind
(27:08):
of want to give it to misterIsrael Hands. I can't believe that's his
real name. I don't think Iever mentioned this. He's a historical pirate
too. Oh yeah, I'm surehe is. Beards first mate. So
but yeah, I mean because heI mean because we lost him, and
because he really articulated the message ofthe show and has really become kind of
(27:30):
a was it like self realized, self actualized character, really understands who he
is and his role in this. And yeah, it's a beautiful moment,
and it was a gut wrenching momentto lose them. So we'll give him
an award posthumanously. I don't knowif I said that right. Humorous?
Yeah, humorous? No, that'shumorous? Is the bone that that's that's
(27:51):
your funny bone? How do yousay it? I feel like I've never
heard someone say it. I justsee it in writing a lot. Posthumous,
posthumous posture. I thought it wasposthumorous. After you stop being funny,
after you tell a joke, you'reposthumorous, all right. I have
tallied up our Astral Queens the entireseries. Looking back at season one,
(28:14):
we had a three way tie forthe Astral Queen of season one. Oh
and those were alu Wan Da,Lucious, and black Beard. Okay,
all three with five votes, andthen we also voted for Steed and Mary
and Buttons. Then moving into seasontwo, the winner of that season is
is he Hands oh wow, whonotably did not get any votes in season
(28:37):
one, And then looking at theseries overall, the astral queen for our
flag means death is Lucious. Wow. Lucious. His pants were really good
in the whole seasons. I lovehis pants, the sailor cut where it's
(28:59):
a straight, almost bell bottom kindof pant, like a wide leg trouser
just elongated his tour so so manytimes. But sometimes he wore a little
kind of like a capri version ofthat, like a gaucho, so his
ankles were out and he was socunty. Okay, yeah, Lucius is
great. I think that's a greatastral queen. They were using his clothes
(29:21):
to ben in the bars on thejail side. His Mormon underwear was that
underwear. I think that was justunderwear of the time. The second place
overall was a four way tie,oh, Alan Steed, Bonnet, black
Beard, and is he hands allfive votes, Buttons with three votes,
Mary Bonnet and Jang with two votes, and the Swede and Spanish Jackie at
(29:45):
one vote. Nice. That's howthe astral Queen's worked out. Aliwandi had
a really early lead. We votedfor him, like the first two episodes.
It was so good in the beginning. They like started him off really
strong. Yeah, and I didnot realize that Lucius said such a strong
showing. But yeah, I meanLucia's did a lot because he was the
(30:07):
what is it called, I'm nota stenographer, the record keeper. He
was like, you know, thehistory maker. Okay, yeah, that
was good. I love this.I love the astro queen section. And
no spoilers, boohoo, no spoilers. So if they announced today that there
was going to be a season three, what would you want to see in
that season? What do you thinkwould be happening given where we left off?
(30:30):
Okay, so I think the innkeepersare going to fail miserably. They
can't keep they don't know how tofix a roof, they don't know how
to fucking install a new window. There's it doesn't seem like there's uh infrastructure
left to do any of these things. Uh, So I feel like they're
(30:51):
just going to try it for anepisode or maybe two, and then they're
going to go back and find thecrew, and the crew is going to
find the Noseless Wonder and tear himapart maybe or make him like eat his
old nose. I don't know.Uh, but there's gonna be revenge.
Revenge is definitely on the plate.Yeah, I mean that's the thing that
(31:14):
like the kind of villain of theend of the season is still out there.
So yeah, like that has tobe addressed. I don't know if
like the whole season would be likea revenge thing, or now they introduced
a new character that's also like tryingto get them, maybe a new pirate
to show them up, I don'tknow, and then maybe like marital looes
(31:34):
between Lucius and Black Pete just likeyou know, newly weed and like you
know, being in a pirate shipbeing newly wet, like how do they
deal with that? And then Iwould love to see how French she runs
a ship if he is indeed thecaptain or the one in charge, because
he's so like he's always thinking ofthe next con, just like a little
(31:59):
con artist. He loves a goodLike would they be like going around grifting
people more than rating them? LikeI think both. I think he'd teach
them the art of the grift ina way that would be like very impactful
for them if they land on land, you know, because in the on
the sea they're pirates, but onland, what are you? And then
(32:21):
maybe like another episode with like ahigh class like a dynamic like we had
in the first season where we seethem trying to like elevate themselves and trying
to fit in, but they don't. Something to do with that maybe,
yeah, Like considering that it wasintended to be the final season, the
third and final season, like wouldwe bring back any guest stars that have
(32:45):
been there before, like the twowomen Mary Reid and and Bonnie Yeah,
or any of the people from likeNick Kroll and those guys from that episode
though, that would be what Iwould want to see, like another episode
with them like the rich people mightbe trying to get revenge on Steed,
lowing up their lives like that.Yeah. And then Kaliko Jack, I
(33:06):
want to see him die. Healready died? Oh didn't he? How
did he die? You got hitwith like a Cannonball and that. Yeah,
I forgot. Oh my god,he's the worst. Oh yeah,
he double crossed them, So likeI would love to see like another double
cross too, or like uh,splitting of the crew, like some people
want to stay with the old Revengeand other people want to go as saying
(33:28):
to grow the empire. Yeah,I would like to know more about what
Jang's plans were for like being onin this part of the world. She
was bringing all those ships over andgaining all that crew, Like what was
she trying to accomplish specifically, andlike is she trying to rebuild that and
is that going to cause you afterthey go on the Revenge mission? Would
it cause them to split off?And Raakes, I don't believe that was
(33:52):
her whole entire fleet. She hada fleet all over the world, but
the ones that were at the Republicgot the clocks. So I don't think
they all got the clocks. Butmaybe I'm wrong. I'd love some some
more exposition on that. But likeI said, I don't know. I
don't know if I can watch thisshow again without Izzy hands. It's just
(34:15):
not the same. But I wouldlove to see them and drag again,
like another Calypso's birthday. But that'sjust the show again, Like I'm not
a creative person like that. I'mnot a writer, so I can't like
speculate, like you know, awriter could be like, oh yeah,
and then they invent the car andI'm like, what I expect Roach is
(34:37):
going to invent some more food items? Yeah, and uh French he's gonna
come up with. I mean it'salready done, like a pyramid scheme.
I don't know, some other likeGrip that's well known. Maybe they'll do
they did like the Nigerian prince thing. Yeah, but maybe they'll do like
a weekend at Bernie spoof. Idon't know. Yeah, I don't know,
(34:58):
like what what would be like themain con flick or anything. But
it's hard because all of our creware so like diverse. Well they're all
on good terms with each other, like everyone is saying, like a happy
place here. So it's like Idon't really want to make tension between them.
I don't mind tension between the crew. I think that's natural, especially
in a family, like I thinkthat's what I would think about, like
(35:21):
in a family and a dynamic, like maybe tropes of favoritism or you know,
jealousy. There's so many things thatcan happen within a family that still
leave you being a family. Likeyou can get over it, but you
know, you kind of go throughit. Yeah, I don't know.
Like I said, I'm not awriter. I'm just very critical of writing.
(35:47):
I don't know. I would loveto be able to, like if
they had an outline, like justa general outline. I mean, I
wish they could do like an animatedseries to give us like an adult animated
series, and that's usually cheaper thandoing a full production in like New Zealand.
Yeah, Like I think realistically, like if you have a vision for
(36:10):
a show or like a creative ideaand you're not able to execute it in
the medium that you want to,if you are really passionate about getting the
story out or getting the product out, you would find alternatives. Maybe there's
a comic book, a web series. You know, there are ways for
(36:31):
you to finish your work. Yeah, that was my thought that I know
a lot of shows have continued throughcomics, like well, Firefly got a
movie, but they also continued thatstory through comics and then later books.
Buffy continued in comics for a fewseasons. They even called the comic book
season nine or whatever. Yeah eight. So yeah, and several shows have
(36:53):
done that, and you know itdoesn't have the same size of audiences,
have the same reach. But ifyou're really in I said in it,
like you get to continue is whatyou started. Yeah. So I just
a part of me feels a littlebetrayed by the creators, oh just a
hair just also because they didn't wantto explore other options or other avenues to
(37:17):
finish what they started in a waylike they said, no, we don't
know that, we just they justthey couldn't find someone to pick up the
show right for streaming another season theycould come out. I mean it could
be years from now to get somethingthat's fair. That's fair, Okay.
Yeah, I guess I don't knowenough about like the Hollywood machine to understand
like what can happen in terms oflike moving the story forward. But there's
(37:43):
so many ways to explore a narrativethat I'm just like, why can't you
just give it to us, Likegive it, like I'll take it in
any way you want to give itto me, baby, just give it
to me. I just want likea resolution. I want to see these
characters. Like it's though, becauseI feel like the crew the actors on
(38:04):
this show were fundamental to creating thevibrancy and the engage the nature of the
show. But it would be funif they did, like an animated series.
Maybe Comedy Central could pick it up. I don't know, but I
don't know. Well, I thinkit's safe to say that if there there
ever is any more content in thisuniverse, that will most likely cover on
(38:29):
the show. But we're also liketotally okay and at peace with what we
do have. I feel like Idon't want to feel like I don't want
to convey this idea that I'm ungratefulfor what we have because it was such
a privilege to have a show likethis, Like this kind of show would
have never existed like twenty years ago, you know. So it's just like
(38:52):
the timeline that we're living in rightnow to be able to witness it for
it's short to span. I thinkit's made such a deep impact in the
communities that it spoke about and fourand two that it's just like, I
don't know, but it's just like, you're so grateful, it's crazy.
Whenever they give you crumbs you'll fuckingtake them, you know. And I
(39:13):
feel like this was they were themost delicious, delectable, like little tastes
of what television could be for likea queer, diverse audience. And I'm
like hungry for more obviously, butI will savor what we have what exists.
Yeah, but there ever is aseason three or a movie or animated
or comic or novel or something like, I think it's safe to say we'll
(39:37):
we'll at least come back here andaddress whatever is released. Yeah, if
anything is, I don't I'm notanticipating anything, but yeah, there's no
pressure. It's going to leave thatout there. But moving on to what's
next for the podcast. So againthis will be on the on the main
feed, the Spacing Out with BBand Jason feed. We're looking to shift
(39:58):
gears again and get better in theouter space. Woo woo. I'm also
a little scared scace. Space isscary. Did you know that space can
be very terrifying? Did you knowthat in space no one can hear you
scream? Is that a tagline? It's a tagline. We want to look
at the alien universe. It's theGourdney Weaver motherfuckers. Yeah, so we're
(40:22):
gonna we're gonna look at some moviesfor a change and really kind of dive
into that franchise and so scared. It's gonna be scary. It's gonna go
well with the fall season. Andthere's so there's you know a number of
Alien movies out already. There's oneabout to come out in theaters in just
a few weeks, so it's goodtiming with that. And then there's also
(40:44):
a TV show in development that Iread it was like early twenty twenty five
that that's coming out, so ohwow, Okay, we might take a
look at that as well. ButI think that's the plan, and we've
we've discussed you know, where wewant to go after that, because this
will only be you know, apretty limited run of here about six weeks.
Yeah, and then well we'll discussmore. But like Alien also crosses
(41:05):
over with Predator, and then that'sa whole movie series that has a really
great movie called Prey in it.Oh yeah, I love that movie.
I didn't know nothing about Predator exceptfor maybe like there's one one with Arnold
swatsoning are in it. Yeah, that's the original with Arnold and Carl Weathers.
Yeah, I seen that a longtime ago, and then I and
then I watched Prey, so Iwatched the very first one and the very
(41:29):
last one. So I'd love tosee what else is in between with the
Predator franchise as well. But yeah, I'm not sure about that, but
we'll we'll discuss. We'll keep itopen. BB and I are getting ready
to relocate for like the fourth timesince we've been doing spacing out, so
it's going to be a few weeksoff before we get into that. I'm
(41:50):
anticipating we get that startup in AugustAugust. Wow, Yeah, okay,
I'm down. We got to packup the podcasting equipment so we will be
in the New city talking about Alienand I'm excited because I've I've seen Alien
and aliens a number of times.I've only seen the others like once.
Oh, I know, there's likea monster with the with the with with
(42:12):
the tongue that's also a monster.So it's like a fish within a fish.
How does that work? Who's gotthe Who's who's making the moves,
Who's who's driving the ship? Isit the little guy or the big guy?
I think it's a big guy withlike a mouth within a mouth,
a mouth in a mouth, butdoes the mouth ever be like, I
am hungry, give me some food. I want sweets, because that's how
it feels like for me as aperson. Sometimes I'm like, oh,
(42:36):
I'm craving some like chips right now. Do you think that's how that works
When the little guy's like, hey, you should get a cheeseburg, you
know, well we'll figure that outwhen we talk about alien Okay, So
that's what's next for us, andthat's going to do it for our coverage
of our flag means death. Ihad really great time revisiting the show with
(42:59):
you, bby. It's my favoriteshow. I think I got to appreciate
it a lot more on the secondwatch. I think, well, we
were analyzing it in a way thatyou didn't. You were just like I
think you started watching it because Iwas watching it, and you were like,
oh, that's interesting. And thenyou saw Ed and Bonnet hooking up
before I did. I was watchingit not expecting it, and you're like,
(43:21):
oh, they're really going there. You saw all the signs before I
did. So I'm glad we gotto watch it again, and I hope
to watch it again soon. Ifeel like it's like a comfort show for
me, Like it's just it's sogood and it makes me feel good to
watch it. It's like being withfamily, like at the Olive Garden,
so you know when you're here yourfamily. Yeah, all right, Well,
(43:45):

find a family to belong to.Thank you for spacing out with BB and
