a common Spanish confusion, Ola bearsus ola. What aren't they

the same? Nope, but I get what You're scratching your
head right now. Don't worry. I'll clear it up in
a minute. So are you ready for a quiki? Yes.
I've had many students who are surfers, surfistas en espanel surfistas,

and every time they ask me how do you say
wave in Spanish? I tell them olah and then confusion
because it's in ola, the word for hello. Well, yes,
both words sound is soactly the same. There is zero
difference in pronunciation, but they're spelled differently and they mean

completely different things. Let's start with Allah spelled at or la.
It means hello, and it's usually followed by a friendly
question like allah gital ollah cova, go ahead, repeat after me,
allah gital ollah. Nice. Now let's talk about allah spelled

or la ah. It means wave, as in la solas
del mark the waves of the sea, and people usually
talk about all us in plural. I don't hear often
just a single wave. So how do we know which
one people mean? Context? Mi amigo. If I start a

conversation with Ola, I'm not talking about waves. And if
I'm pointing at the sea and say media is Aola,
I'm not saying hi to the sea. So context is
very important. So let's recap Olah spelled at la is
hello and Olah spelled oh la is wave. The sound identical,

but they mean totally different things. And to know which
people mean rely on the context, and that means some egos.
