Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is Emily Swallow and you're listening to Star
Wars reactions.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
This is the way to podcast.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
There's been an awaken of your father.

Speaker 4 (00:12):
In nineteen seventy seven, George Lucas formed a legacy for
me and I am inspired by mythology. His soaka has
become a passion for many. His legend has become our story. Oh,
one of resistance. We are kind of like rebellion and

(00:36):
redemption ja like father. This is Star Wars Reactions. Remember,
of course we'll do with.

Speaker 5 (00:44):
You always.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Live.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
It's in Florida Comic On here and finally with my
pal in person instead of over zoom or Skype, we
got the David Martyrs with me.

Speaker 6 (00:57):
What's up? Brother?

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Well, what's up? As I was just watching Emily Swallow
walk from her table out for a break, and I
wanted to ask her to come over and say this
is the way, but we're not gonna bug her.

Speaker 6 (01:10):
Let it go on break.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
But we're here. It's what Central Florida Comic Con twenty
twenty five and we're having a.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Great time so far. Yeah, it's been a great day
so far. We've con started at ten and we've been
here pretty much pretty much since it opened, pretty much
walk the floor in both exhibit halls and visited the
five Oh first, we got to meet Emily and talk,
get photos with her and everything. We'll be posting those

(01:38):
if you haven't seen them already, check them out. But
it's yeah, it's been a fun day so far. What
have What are your initial reactions to twenty twenty five
Central Florida Comic Con.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Well, it's fun to see people that we know, Like
we've got to spend some time with Daniel Glovar. We
got to meet him through Greg McLoughlin years ago. It's
under Florida Comic Con. We we'll be interviewing him here
in just a little bit. The addition of Emily Swallow
was huge because you and I were were always looking
for a Star Wars connection, and really the only one

(02:13):
is and you had to bring me up to speed
on it was Daniel Bosco, right, and my saying his
namer Dante Moscow.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
See, I'm already messing it up. But he's from Resistance, right,
you know, he played Jay Kell and Star Wars renels.
You can see how how much I'm destroyed. Jy Kell, Yes,
Ji Kell, And you told me that but he was
about it.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
In terms of Star Wars connection, you know, we've met
Timothy's on two years ago. We even got to meet
Phineas and Ferb's voice actors two years ago who were
on the Star Wars Special Phineas and Ferbs. So so
far it's it doesn't seem as busy as last year
and even the year before. What do you think you

(02:53):
feel the same way. Yeah, it's been I mean, I've
had fun.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
And there is one more Star Wars connection because Ross
markwound here and he was the voice of Han Solo
India aforementioned Phineas and verbs Star Wars Special.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
But yeah, it's been fun.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
There's it doesn't feel like it's as busy as it
has been, and I would say over the last two
years it doesn't feel as busy. But I'm also noticing
two as walking the floor a couple of times already.
Is there's uh so, there's a lot less comics and
toys here this year, a lot more arts, crafts, cosplay,

(03:33):
props and stuff like that all over the place, which
is fun, which which is cool, which is cool. It's
got fun to see some of that stuff out here.
But then of course they have I also noticed too,
there are fewer cosplay clubs here too. The Gotham Underground
is still here, they're here every year five of first

(03:55):
Rebel Legion man no marks. The Ghostbuster group is here,
but the there's there was a Star Wars or Star
Trek gaming group that's here this year that's never been
here before. But the normal Star Trek club that's normally here,
or the g I Joe Club that's normally none of
them are here this year. So it makes it a

(04:16):
little little different. But there's still a lot of cool
stuff to do here. It's been a pretty entertaining day. Yeah,
I agree.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
You know, like I was thinking, there's a whole gaming
room area that you know, this this area right here
where Aaron and I arestein used to be very small.
It was a small area, but it was gaming. It
grew a group group. Now they have that moved to
a whole other area. They filled both sides of this.
It has grown, There's no question. I just thought about it.
This is the first year they're doing Friday Saturday Sunday

(04:47):
versus just Saturday Sunday. So I wonder if some people
hit this up just yesterday and I don't know maybe,
so maybe that's spread the crowd out a little bit,
But you know, it's been fun you and I've gone
wrong and talk to some of the authors on some
of these books and what they've created is fun to
get their insight into that. And uh, yeah, no, I'm

(05:09):
I'm looking forward to just spending a little bit more
time doing a few interviews and uh and most importantly
just getting to see you in real life.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
Yeah, I know, it's we don't get to do this
nearly enough, get to hang out like this and just
walk convention floors and stuff. I know, hopefully we'll get
to do it in Okaya later this year as well,
because it's that one's been exploding as well in size
and uh, draw power for guests and stuff. So I'm

(05:40):
kind of hoping we have this kind of the same
draw power for that one that they did last year.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
But this has been fun.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
If if you're outside of Star Wars, still a lot
of guests here, some of the Power Rangers are here.
If you like wrestling wrestlers here, Mick Foley is here.
It's uh grew up watching Mick. And of course there's
some fantastic artists you mentioned Daniel Govar which will be
speaking too shortly. And of course Alan Grimes is still

(06:09):
is here. He's over on the other side of the floor.
And yeah, a lot of great things, all the great stuff.
We will be posting videos and some of the stuff
we've seen, and so the lookout for social media for that.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Yeah, so let's keep going.

Speaker 6 (06:25):
Here.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
We are at Central Florida Comic Con twenty twenty five.
And as we said earlier, we were going to get
a quick interview with Daniel Givar. We got to spend
some time with him earlier. We're looking at all of
his beautiful work. And we got to meet Daniel two
years ago when Greg McLoughlin from the Rebel Based Car
podcast introduced us to him. And we're really glad he

(06:49):
did because we're back and having fun talking to him again.
How's the convent so far in twenty twenty five, It's
been great.

Speaker 6 (06:57):
I come back every year.

Speaker 5 (06:59):
I know the the guy who runs the show really well.
I've known him for about fifteen years. He and I
kind of grew up together in Annapolis and Maryland, and
now anytime he has a con I reach out and say, hey,
do you need somebody to come to the show. To
do sketches and stuff, and he always says, oh my gosh.

(07:20):
So yeah, it's been a good show. There a lot
of really good conversations with artists that are kind of
up and coming. I think I've given way too much
advice to people in the last like twenty four hours,
but all really good conversations, everything from like game developers to.

Speaker 6 (07:43):
You know, people that just love painting.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
I typically, as you can see, do a lot of
watercolor on the spot and it's kind of drawn a
lot of people in to look at what I'm doing
and ask me questions.

Speaker 6 (07:55):
Nice.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Nice, Can you talk a little bit about the work
you've done for time and what's coming out? Because I'm
looking at some of it and it is beyond gorgeous.
Can you talk a little bit about that?

Speaker 6 (08:08):
Yeah, of course, thank you so much.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
The current set that I'm doing is one that me
and the TOPS art director Brandon Bernard kind of cooked up,
and it was one that I kind of did a
few tests for to make sure that it was something
that the app could support, and it was something that
I really wanted to see, which was more video in

(08:31):
the app. And Brandon's been after that too. He wanted
to bring another level to the cards, so that it
wasn't just you know, something that was duplicating the print cards,
but it was actually taking it a step further, something
that you can only do indigitally. So these are actually
time lapsed. I actually record every card that I paint

(08:52):
in forty five minutes, and then each card is painted
in front of you as you as you pull the card.
It's kind of an awesome like I like, I love
I collect them myself, and I actually I have every
one of them literally, including.

Speaker 6 (09:09):
The legendaries, which is really hard. But I've made a
lot of friends in the app.

Speaker 5 (09:14):
The app has a really good you know, like the
people in there are great, and you know, the friends
that I've made there, they they you know, they'll reach
out to the like, hey, I just pulled you know, generous
if you want it, and I'm like, yeah, I think
I might have something to trade you for it, and
they're just like, ah, it's all good, you can give
me back later.

Speaker 6 (09:32):
So yeah, we have a lot of that going on here.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
So what what if you have anything you can share
about the future of of your work with tops or
what can you share there?

Speaker 5 (09:42):
I can say there's gonna be more speed paints. That's
probably the only thing that I'm legally able to talk about.
And yeah, I mean the set is right now, it's
nearing what fifty or sixty of them that we've done
and rising, and it's their portraits, so it's it's kind
of a fun.

Speaker 6 (10:03):
I love it because like kid Dan is just.

Speaker 5 (10:06):
Looking back thinking like, wow, you're doing like Star Wars
portraits for you know, lucasfilm.

Speaker 6 (10:11):
That's crazy and it's it's a lot of fun.

Speaker 5 (10:15):
I get to kind of weigh in on the ones
I want to do, and we usually kind of tailor
one or two of them to you know, existing sets
or things that are coming out.

Speaker 6 (10:27):
It's kind of it's fun. We some of the current ones.

Speaker 5 (10:31):
We just did some of the Skeleton Crew characters, which
is really fun.

Speaker 6 (10:37):
I love the show and it was fun to be
able to draw Jude Law.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
And yeah, so right now today, like if you have
any Star Wars stuff that is selling better than others,
or anything more popular than others or just.

Speaker 5 (10:51):
A whole mixture, I don't really sell a lot, you know,
on table and stuff like that. Star Wars wise in
the app, I can tell you that it's really popular
it's become the set. I mean, it's it's one that
people keep coming back to, and it's kind of hard
for people to let go of some of the legendaries.

(11:13):
They also made the odds really hard. It's like one
in one hundred and seventy five with crystals, which is crazy,
and that's I mean, the odds make it so that,
I mean, it's really tough to pull one.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
That's really cool. And you know, you got me thinking
about something you said earlier, and I told Aaron I
was definitely gonna ask you this question because I was like, no,
that is so neat because you were talking about rarities,
but you talked about a rare experience, which is kind
of like as you were developing as an artist, you
had these, I guess breakthrough moments. Can you share a
little bit about that. That's fascinating.

Speaker 5 (11:51):
I think every artist that I've ever talked to all
we all have a piece or a number of pieces
which I call break through pieces. It's where you leveled up,
I guess is the best way to put it. You
art is one of those things that you work at
and nurture and improve upon every time you do a piece.

(12:16):
I forget who said it, but I think it was
Da Vinci or someone along those lines who said, for
every thousand pieces that you do, you.

Speaker 6 (12:23):
Might have one good one.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
Yeah, and well, we're our worst critics, that's for sure.
And I think that I've had a number of pieces
that I consider breakthrough pieces where I saw something that
I had never figured out, or saw something in a way.

Speaker 6 (12:42):
And usually it's like a happy accident.

Speaker 5 (12:44):
It's not something that you necessarily intentionally do, but it's
something you want to remember. And those are the pieces
you don't want to sell, you don't want to get
rid of. The best artists probably have like fifteen to
twenty or one hundred of those. You know, the newer artists,
they might have one or two of those, but everybody

(13:06):
has one.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
So how many coming up? How many more cons you
going through? Here? You got a full schedule the rest
of the year.

Speaker 5 (13:13):
I have a decent schedule, but I'm actually taking a
step back from some cons. I'm only doing I think
about eight this year currently on my docket. I took
off a number of them because of my workload between
my Star Wars contracts that I have to work on
and Aragon and Tema are fantasy novels that I'm doing

(13:41):
artwork for. Those are going to take up a good
chunk of my year. I have to draw. I have
to paint five hundred Aragon paintings for the World of
Aragon Kickstarter, which is super fun, but it's a lot.

Speaker 6 (13:57):
I'm glad you brought that up. So yeah, I will.
I have a number of things that are gonna gonna
take up some time.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
So just last question and I and I'm stealing this
from another podcast or he always he always says, is
there any question I should have asked that I didn't ask.

Speaker 6 (14:16):
Wow, that's a really good one. That is hard.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
Well, maybe it just gets you to think about like
you want to. I'm thinking about from.

Speaker 6 (14:25):
You, right, all right?

Speaker 5 (14:26):
Right, I mean I have my own Kickstarter coming out. Yeah,
I guess that would be the only.

Speaker 6 (14:34):
Thing I have.

Speaker 5 (14:35):
So I I have a I do art books, as
you know. I'm literally holding up one that you can't
see on it. But yeah, my volume one daily warm
up sketches that I do every every day. I warm
up with a sketch and it's usually whatever comes to mind.
It's something weird and fantasy, sci fi. I pick a

(14:57):
genre and then I paint whatever and try and you know,
tell a story in each piece.

Speaker 6 (15:05):
That's the main thing.

Speaker 5 (15:07):
And I have volume two coming out, so I'm finally
at that, like ready to publish stage for volume two.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
Is there any site or website that you can tell
people to be looking for or not yet?

Speaker 5 (15:19):
It will be on Kickstarter. I can tell you that
I've already kind of set up the page for it.
I'm just waiting for the last couple of pieces of
the puzzle before I and talking to my printers about
you know, costing.

Speaker 6 (15:32):
So yeah, and.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
Just where else can people find you? Like all your work?
I mean, we follow you on Instagram.

Speaker 1 (15:38):
I mean, but.

Speaker 6 (15:40):
Instagram is a good one.

Speaker 5 (15:42):
But I'm on literally everything, any social media I probably have.
I've been really active on Blue Sky lately. Others are
I mean, I'm on Twitter, I'm on Facebook, I'm on
just about anything.

Speaker 6 (15:55):
But it's just my name, Daniel Govart on everything.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
Hey, thank you for in time with us. We just
we love your work and spending time talking to you.

Speaker 6 (16:03):
I appreciate it. Thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
All Right, We're here at Central Florida Comic Con twenty
twenty five and we have the pleasure of interviewing the
armor herself. Emily Swallow, how are you. I'm doing well,
Thank you. I'm really happy to be here. Awesome. So
how's the con going so far? I know that you're
trying to raise money for LA Fire and all, but it's.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
Been wonderful.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
Addition for me.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
And I feel so grateful that Ben, who runs the convention,
brought me in because I grew up in Jacksonville, so
I have been up there helping my mom move out
of her house for thirty seven years. And then I
was supposed to go back to LA but could not
because our house was evacuated, and so this came up

(16:47):
then invited me down, and I mean, I'm just so
grateful for the chance to be here. And this is
my first kind of twenty twenty five. My first one
got canceled, so it's even more happy.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Well, I was thinking about it because Aaron and I
follow you on Instagram and we saw you coming down
from Jacksonville and stuff like that. Is it safe to us?
Is your householdkay?

Speaker 5 (17:08):
Is?

Speaker 1 (17:08):
My husband got to go home last night with our
dogs and everything is fine there. We're unbelievably grateful to
the work that the fire crews have been doing because
we live in a part of la where there are
it's densely forested and there's canyons, and there's a lot
of potential for things to just blow up a if
embers get in there, so they're doing great work containing it.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
So what you got cons after this? What are we
looking at? Where? How many of you hitting?

Speaker 5 (17:35):
Well?

Speaker 1 (17:35):
I'll be in Florida again next month. I think I
have about fifteen scheduled so far this year. I don't
know where they are, I know, like right before I go.
But I'm excited because I'm going to go to Scotland
at some point this year, Pensacon. I don't think I
have any others in the Southeast besides this one and Pensacon.

(17:59):
I'm not doing Mega Conn this year, and I did
Collective con up in Jacksonville last year, so I won't
be there, so I don't see.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
So we'll just want to not take too much time.
So I was just thinking about this, if we had
the opportunity to interview you, I'm like Emily's been asked
like everything under the sun, about the armor, about the Mandalorian.
But I said this earlier to Daniel Bovard down there.
He's an artist brilliantly talented, and I wanted to ask

(18:29):
you this question. So what question? Like, are you not
asked that you would like to share information on them?
You know what I'm saying, Like, like I think about
stuff I want to ask people, butter, is there's stuff
that you want to share or talk about that guys
like I don't even think to ask.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
I have been asked this question before.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
Yeah, and you do it.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
I don't know how to an like there's nothing that
comes to mind that I'm like, Oh, I wish because
I think if there's something that I really want to share,
I find a way to work it in. I mean,
it is, it's it's still if somebody asks me about
something that I didn't even know, Like I don't know
some of the theater I've done. If someone's seen one
of those shows, that's really cool, just because not as

(19:10):
many people have gotten to see that, so it's cool
to make that connection. I had someone bring me a
playbill for a play that I did, I think in
Minneapolis at the Guthrie Theater years ago, and that was
really special.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
Yeah, that's really cool. All right, Well, we just wanted
to say thank you for just taking the time and
spend it over the time and being here in Lakeland, Florida.
Take care, thank you too.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
All right, everybody, Central Florida Comic Con is over for
the day. We are standing. Actually we had some bite
we had a bite to eat at almost over at
Lakeside Village here in Lakeland. And so now we're gonna
kind of do our final reactions to twenty twenty five
Central Florida Comic Cow because we've been here every year

(19:57):
they've done it pretty much except for the year they
skipped because of COVID.

Speaker 2 (20:02):
So but we we had it's interesting. So let's let's
go with you.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
David, tell me what your reactions are to your final
reactions to you this week's Central Florida Comic Con.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
My, my, my final reactions are that it ended up
being really enjoyable. I love the size of this con.
I've said it many times. If you do a Star
Wars celebration and you do this, this is so much
easier to move around and really a lot easier to
get access to people.

Speaker 6 (20:33):
You know.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
A couple of years ago, Timothy's On was here and
with a little time, a little patience asking him, hey,
you know, can we record with you and and you're
able to do that celebration. You can't do that, it's
not happening. And we lucked out. This year. We've been
able to do it with Emily Swallow, so I'm so
thankful that she said yes and we had the time

(20:55):
to do it again at a big con. There's no
way you'd be able to get that time with Emily Swall.
The time with Daniel Gavar was a lot of fun.
And part of what people won't know is we talked
to him a ton before and a ton after our
interview with him, and so he had a lot of
great behind the scenes stories and fun stuff there. So

(21:16):
it's things like that that are really I really enjoy.
I love doing the interviews now I'm getting more comfortable
with them, and I love seeing what people have created.
Like I said, I'm a huge fan of Daniel Gavars.
You know, you and I went around and talked to
a few other book authors and things like that. It's fun.

(21:36):
It did have a feel though you and I talked
about it that there were less comics, less action figures,
toys kind of stuff this year. But even with that,
it's for me a complete success because of the people
we got to talk to and the people we got
to interview, but also just you and I getting to

(21:56):
see each other face to face and hang out and
not just talk over a movie or a movie screen.
In essence, it is, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
Yeah, that's truly what it is, and I have to
agree with you, it definitely was. Overall I counted as
a successful year. Like I said, I agree with you
the fact that there weren't as many comics, weren't as
many toys, which was honestly a little disappointing, But overall,
I had a lot of fun hanging out with you. Yeah,
for every I would say for every minute of our

(22:27):
Daniel Gavarre interview, we spent ten additional minutes talking to
him before and afterwards, So I mean we probably spent
half the day with Daniel, which was awesome. He was
just we just had so much fun talking with him.
And then of course Eily Swallows, who was a last
minute addition to the con. As you heard, she was

(22:47):
just happened to be in town. She's from a little
north of us in Jacksonville, was helping her mom and
got invited down at the last minute because she couldn't
go home but glad she was able to be there.
Glad she had time a few minutes to step beside
and uh chit chat, which was awesome.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Then of course.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
Also I got to meet uh and talk to Dante Bosco, who,
of course y'all will know him from Star Wars Rebels.
He played he was the voice behind Jack Kel Jake Hel,
but if you don't know him as Jake Kel, you
will recognize him as the uh the lost boy from

(23:25):
the movie Hook, opposite Robin Williams aka Fe, which was awesome.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
It was so cool to meet.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
Him and uh we had a we had a great time.
Uh actually spent all the whole time. I had a
whole bunch stuff to talk about Hook, but we ended
up talking about Jake Kell the whole time, which was great.
So maybe it even much better being how a bigger
Rebels fan than I am, so but yeah, it was overall,
I would say it was a success. I mean, we
did did hit a couple of the couple of vendors

(23:54):
that were there. We did get get to hit up
our the one guy that was back last year with
all the collector's cards. He was there, Uh, so we
got to reconnect with him and had a good conversation
with him and picked up some some We both picked
up some cards, which was fun and but overall, I'd
say it was a very successful con as well. So
definitely looking forward to next year. Interesting to see if

(24:17):
they keep the three day format or if they go
back to two. I have to wait and see what

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
