So let's give you a little bit of background. If
you don't know what Star Wars pap Uh, Cara bast,

we go, all right, Take two. So if you don't know,
uh uh, it's live, folks. What can I say? If
(03:31):
you are not familiar with Star Wars Podcast Day? Uh?
It is a unofficial celebration of the Star Wars fan
audio community aka podcasts. Every year, this event brings together
over our hundreds of shows uh, all sharing their love
(03:54):
of Star Wars with new episodes special episodes, all released
on or around February seventh. Why February seventh, you ask, Well,
let's tell you. February seventh was the day that the
very first Star Wars podcast premiered way back in nineteen
(04:16):
ninety nine. That show was called Jedi Talk. So that's
the reason we celebrate February seventh, kind of like our
little version of May fourth, but for podcasts. It's awesome.
Shout out to the awesome Daniel Contreras who organizes this
thing every year. It is his passion, his baby, and
(04:39):
he has run with it and this is this what
year five?
Speaker 1 (04:43):
Now, I'm not I was sure, but for doing it.
You know, he's he's been on our podcast with us.
Speaker 5 (04:53):
Yes, he has, he's been. Yeah, he has been on
with us to talk about Star Wars Podcast Day. Yeah,
I want to say it's your five of it. I
don't have my notes in front of me to confirm it,
but but yeah, it's been great that it's always fun,
and I definitely want to encourage you if once you're
done listening to our episode today, go online on your
(05:18):
social media council look for Star Wars Podcast Day on
most places. They're at star Wars pod Day is their
their handle, and they'll be sharing all of the episodes
if that are specifically for Star Wars Podcast Day. Check
them out. Who knows, you may find a new show
you fall in love with that you can add to
your lineup. I know I usually do every year, so
(05:42):
I find a couple behind one, if not more, that
I enjoy and try to work into my podcast lineup.
So I always look forward to to a podcast Day.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Yeah, we've we've had a good time with it, man,
we really have.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
It's it's fun and it's it's it's really it's really fun,
especially to see the community come together because there's everybody
has their own opinions and we see a lot of
in a in a community where we see a lot
of division and stuff. It's fun to see the community
to come together to celebrate just being a Star Wars fan.
(06:21):
It's great. I love it, and uh, we should. We
should do that every day, so but especially this this week,
let's get it done. Check it out. Support all these
shows that are part of Star Wars Podcast Day, and
we appreciate you hanging out with us as well. If
you're new with us for Star Wars Star Wars Podcast Day, welcome.
(06:43):
We hope you enjoy what you hear and hope you'll
join us in the future as well. But let's uh,
let's jump into it, because we got a fun show
lined up for you. Uh. This week, we are going
to be doing a episode of our Vintage Reactions collection.
For those of you who have never heard one of
(07:03):
our Vintage Reactions episodes, this is a series we do
where we actually look back at what they call the
vintage collection of Star Wars TV in animation. We're currently
in the middle of the ewalk series from the nineteen eighties,
(07:24):
but specifically today for Star Wars Podcast Day, we are
going to take a break from the Ewoks animated series
and we are going to sit down and discuss Caravan
of Courage and Ewalk Adventure and what's going to be
so much fun? Is? I know, David, you've seen the
movie before, correct.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Just once before, but on Disney Plus. On Disney Plus.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
Yeah, okay, okay, Well, I can honestly say this is
the first time I've sat down to watch this episode.
This movie was in preparation for this episode, so this
is all new experience to me. And that's why I
love the Vintage our Vintage series is because I grew
I mean, for those of y'all that have listened, y'all know,
(08:09):
I grew up overseas. I missed the e Walks, I
missed Droids, I missed Caravan of Courage and was a
Battle for Endoors the other movie yep, yeah, and so
I missed all those have not seen them. So and
I'm making it a point to hold back because of
our this vintage series, and as we do a new
(08:30):
Vintage reactions, I'm watching these episodes or in this case,
this movie for the very first time. So I'm getting
braw reactions here on this. So and so we're talking
about Caravan of Courage Ewalk Adventure, released November twenty fifth,
nineteen eighty four, on NBC. This movie was directed by
(08:53):
John Cordy, written by George Lucas. Synopsis for this movie
was Mace and Sindel, who are siblings, are separated from
their parents after they've crash landed on indoor and the
Courageous Ewoks aid them and reuniting the family. Let's get
into initial reactions, David, why don't you kick us off?
(09:18):
Tell us your initial reactions to Caravan of Courage an
Ewalk Adventure.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
Yeah, like we mentioned a minute ago, I'd watched it
once before. I did not watch it in eighty four.
You know, I'd seen Return of the Jedi Opening Night
in eighty three May of eighty three, but did not
watch this, And I'm not sure why. The same with
The Battle Friend or that came out in eighty five. So,
(09:47):
just like I mentioned, I had watched it on Disney
Plus didn't have a DVD or VHS copy or anything
like that.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
So I'd watched it before.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
But I was mentioning to Aarin just before we started
recording that. Because we've been doing our vintage reactions where
we cover the Ewoks animated series. We'll eventually get to
the Droids as well, the Droids animated series. But because
we've done it, we've gotten through I think every episode
except the last one of season one. But by going
through those and reviewing them and discussing kind of the
(10:20):
plot and the different devices they use to do their adventures,
I had a greater.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Appreciation for this movie.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
Because of watching the animated series, and so I wanted
to say that. Also, I was watching the last half
hour last night. I wanted to watch that again, and
I was thinking to myself, Okay, go back in time, Dave,
not to. I was fifteen. I was the same age
(10:53):
as Eric Walker, who plays Mace Twan. He was fifteen
when he was making this movie in eighty four. But
I took myself back a little bit further back when
I was eight when I saw the original Star Wars
in the theaters, and I thought to myself, how would
I react to whether you go react to this if
I was eight, nine or ten, And last night I
(11:15):
was watching the last scene with the gore Axe and Mason,
you know, Chuka Truck and Deiej and the Ewoks are
working to save.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
The parents, and I thought I would just be like,
this is the greatest.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
You know, it's it's the kids are the heroes, and
the Ewoks the continuation of seeing them from Return to
the Jedi.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
And you know, it's just really cool. It's really fun. Now.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
Look, I mean we can look back at it now
and we can see the Matte paintings and things like that.
But in eighty four, I mean, look, they did the
Matte paintings and Star Wars and Empire and Return of
the Jedi were incredible, and so I just I'm telling you,
I just really really like this show, and especially you know,
(12:03):
getting out of adult mode and also knowing that George
Lucas made these for I guess is a man of
the older daughter compared to Marshall. Right, Marsha worked on
the so kind of making you know, two TV movies
for his daughter because she loved the e Walks so
much in Return of the Jedi.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
So I had a.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
Great time with this watching it a second time. Almost
like always when you and I cover any of the
Disney Plus series. If I see an episode or or
a movie a second time, I'm like, Okay, I can
take it in and enjoy it. And so I just
had a really good time with this and just take
it for what it's worth. In nineteen eighty four, it
was a really fun adventure.
Speaker 5 (12:43):
Oh yeah, I definitely have to agree with you. You know,
I sat down to watch it for the first time
and turned it on and it started. I'm like, and
I'm sitting there like, this is quite essential, ladies, mean
it was. It was. It was fun. It was a
(13:04):
fun movie. It was entertaining. Special effects were, you know,
top notch for the eighties. Not probably a little simpler
than what we would have gotten it what we got
in a Return of the Jedi, but they were still good,
fun story, fun interactions, and we got to meet some
(13:26):
cool characters and got to see, believe it or not,
even in this movie from the eighties, we got to
see some really good character stories. I really have to
say enjoyed the character of Mace uh And in his
journey through this movie. And and we'll talk about that
here in a little bit as we as we go on.
(13:47):
But it definitely was very entertaining, and you know, I'm
not gonna lie. I I was honestly sitting here and
I was thinking I was going to get something when
we started to watch it. I expecting something like super cheesy.
I'm not gonna lie. I've heard all the horror stories
(14:07):
about the Holiday special and all that in which I
still have not watched yet. I need to try to
do it this this Christmas. Uh, break it out and
see if I can deal with it. And I was
expecting expecting something cheesy. But you know, overall, this was
(14:29):
just really fun. It told a good story. Uh, and
it was You can definitely tell it was made for
TV because of the way it would. You could tell,
you could tell where the commercials went. There's no doubt
you could tell where the commercials went. But fantastic, fantastic movie. Now,
(14:51):
just some bonus news about this movie before we get
into the story and stuff. You know. As we said,
this premier aired on ABC in nineteen eighty four November
nineteen eighty four, and after it aired it ended nineteen
eighty four, ended with Courage of Caravan being the second
(15:13):
highest viewed movie on ABC in the nineteen eighty four year,
with sixty five million people tuning in to watch this movie. Wow,
I did not know that. And on top of it,
it was nominated for two Emmy Awards. I was nominated
(15:35):
for Outstanding Children's Programming and it was nominated and won
for Outstanding Visual Effects. Yeah. Yeah, so this was a
huge deal for Lucasfilm back in the day with this movie.
(15:56):
And I was reading when I was reading up on
stuff for this art to prepare for this episode, I
read an article on this one's over on Star Wars
dot com by our good friend Mark Nubolt. He did
and apparently interviewed the Warwick Davis and he was talking
(16:22):
about specifically about this movie back at the thirtieth anniversary,
which was ten years eleven years ago, nineteen eighty twenty
fourteens when this interview took place, and Warwick dropped a
little piece of trivia in there that, believe it or not,
(16:45):
Vanna Menace was not George Lucas's first time back in
the director's chair. George actually directed the reshoots for this movie,
not Cordy.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
Yeah, because Cordy had to move on to another project.
Speaker 5 (17:04):
Yeah, exactly, so he actually, So, George Lucas actually was
the director of all the reshoots for Caravan of Courage,
So he technically got back in the director's chair not
long after Return of the Jedi.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
So yeah, which is amazing because of how burned out
he was after those three movies.
Speaker 5 (17:27):
And going through divorced during Return of the Jedi exactly.
So I was I was surprised to read that because
it was very true. Apparently they were filming this movie
and it was a quick turnaround too. They filmed the
movie in eighty four between June and August of eighty four,
(17:49):
and it came out in November. Yeah, I mean, can
you imagine a Star Wars movie nowadays getting that quick
of a turnaround.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
Oh, it's amazing, credible.
Speaker 5 (18:00):
So a lot of a lot of great things in
this movie. So let's go ahead and break into the art,
hit up our talking points and jump into this. So
one thing that, uh was, you know great right off
the bat, we meet the parents, we see them at
(18:22):
the beginning. Then of course we see them at the end,
and that gets the story going there looking for their
kids because their ship crashed. Now, one thing I could
not put my finger on was where in the timeline
this was supposedly supposed to fall just pre imp return
(18:45):
or post return. I know, when when it was filmed.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
But yeah, yeah, well, I would think post Return of
the Jedi because Wicked is there, but it could have
been before. I could look at my Star Wars Timelines book.
I don't know that it would necessarily have it in there, though.
Speaker 5 (19:09):
Yeah, I don't know if that would be in there,
because I don't. I don't think this is because it's
part of the vintage. I don't think it's considered cannon. Okay,
but I'm just curious because I saw a couple places
online where I was looking. I saw one place said
it was before, another place said it was after. I'm like, okay, well,
(19:30):
y'all aren't helping me. So I'm not quite sure, but
I was curious where it fell. Part of me once
thinks it might have been before, but I don't who knows,
who truly truly knows, Because you think you would think
(19:50):
if it was after, there would be more of a
imperial footprint still on the planet. Yeah, yeah, and you
get no hint of imperial presence. And besides, with all
of the creatures we see in this movie, it kind
(20:12):
of makes me feel like, you know, it probably wouldn't
have been before because those extra large, scary type creatures
would have definitely been a thorn in the imperial side,
which means the Empire would have had to have wiped
them out, which would explain why we never saw them
in Return of the Jedi.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
Yeah, I like how I like your reasoning. I like it.
Speaker 5 (20:35):
Yeah, so I'm not sure. So if y'all are out
there and y'all listening, and y'all have uh no for
sure and can back it up with documentation when you
when the movie uh is supposedly set per your post Jedi,
let us know we'd love to love to hear that,
and we'll definitely share that and give you credit for
it too. So yeah, yeah, so yeah, I thought that
(21:00):
was very interesting there, you know, you like it. Like
we said in opening, we have been going through the
Ewok cartoon uh in our previous Vintage Reactions episodes, and this,
you know, surprising you mentioned it when we were talking
before lined up really good with those stories and those
(21:24):
animated shows. Why don't you go into some of the
details you were telling me about before the show that
that really lined everything up and connected it connected the
movie with the series for you.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
Well, like you know, part of what you'd see. And
I'm gonna pull this from some of the show notes
here in terms of our talking points.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
A couple of things.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
You know, as Aaron and I have gone through the
animated series, you see kind of the setup of the
story of what is it That? That that Wicked and
Nisa and you know, the what is it Peplu and
some of the other t bow all these guys end
(22:05):
up going through. It's uh. They they have a set
way of doing it. So for example, a lot of
times they'll go to Logray and here they go to
Logray who helps find Hey, you know, here's where your
parents are. They're in the the big huge tower of
the Goax. You know what I'm saying. They're up there
(22:27):
and and and he's a part of the story. So
there's a consistency there. Another one comes along with uh,
like for example, deje is in this show presented with
the white wings of Hope. The red wings of courage
are given to Wichih. Wicket gets magic walking stick. There's
(22:48):
the blue wings of Strength that go to Wittle Uh.
Sindel gets the Candle of Pure Light mace. He gets
a rock that ends up being critical later. There's also
a crystal and ivory tooth that is used to recruit
Chukka Truck and also Kank the Ewok priestess. And so
(23:10):
it's like, as you and I have talked before, Aaron,
it's like these multiple step process to to to achieve
the end goal, to achieve the adventure, to to win
the day. You know, I was thinking about it when
I was watching this, this whole TV movie. I started
(23:32):
thinking about at that point where all those things were
handed out, Aaron, Honest to god, I was thinking about
Luke sitting down in obi Wan's hut and you see
him give Luke the magic talisman, right the lightsaber.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
And here, you know, we see a lot.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
Of the characters getting these in essence magic talismans, and
they're all used throughout the rest of the adventures. So
that's why I was saying, like, watching it this second time,
I'm oh, okay, Yes, it's exactly what Aaron and I've
been talking about with the animated series, and I really
like that it's these different steps and different magical talismans
(24:12):
that you know, George Lucas originally presented in nineteen seventy
seven based on myth Right, you meet them mentor and
get these magic talismans and you and I have talked
about low Grade doing this in the animated series. Well
here he is doing it in this live action TV
mini series.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
So just some thoughts on that.
Speaker 5 (24:33):
That's good. That's good because when we were giving out
the wings and everything, I kind of was sitting there watching.
I'm like, you know that each one had its own
special purpose. When it came time to it, it kind
of gave me. I kind of went back. I didn't
go back to return the chat. I actually went to C. S.
Lewis and Chronicles of Narnia, mainly Linedwitch and the Wardrobe.
(24:56):
You know, Peter got the sword in the shield, then
I'm Blake and all the kid's names. The one girl
got the bow and arrow, the other girl got the
uh this magic uh other magic items, and then the bull.
(25:16):
The youngest kid got the horn or one of them
got The girl got the horn and he got another
I forget what he got. Oh that was great. But anyway,
I went back to that because each one came into
play at a certain time in the story to reach
the the heroes win at the end. So that's kind
(25:39):
of what I saw in that in in in this
which is fantastic, and I like years better where it
relates kind of mirrors uh, the some of the Star
Wars war there. Yeah, it was fantastic. Let's let's talk
about some of our characters share you. Of course, we
see a lot of care. We see a couple of
(26:00):
characters we see in the E Walks show. We see
of course Wicked, We see low Gray, which is all
fun and dandy. Then we meet some some new characters.
So we meet uh, Chuka, Truck and Kank and Deege
and it was very fun. And of course there were
(26:23):
two other sons Tittle and no, uh, Wittle and Chi.
That's it, Wittle and WEECHI I knew it wasn't Tittle
and Fiddle, but that's just what was popping in my head.
All double, all w's yeah, all w's yeah. So which
(26:44):
were which was fun? We got to see that and
it was interesting to see the And this is where,
of course it kind of splits a little bit from
the animated show because Wicked has his brother his brothers
and stuff or that's not the same characters, is it?
Speaker 1 (27:03):
I think is his dad?
Speaker 5 (27:06):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (27:07):
I was trying to Weichi. Is I believe a brother
in Wittle? I was trying to remember if it's Willie.
They changed the name to Willie. He's kind of the
silly one in the character.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
I didn't go back and double check. But but Dej
is his dad, and and.
Speaker 4 (27:23):
I believe Wechi's a brother and Wittle obviously they have
uh is it Paplu or is it Tebow? I know
they definitely have Tibau Nissa and uh Latara, right, we
have those characters. But I meant to do that. But
(27:43):
but I but there are some consistencies. And I was
trying to remember if they went directly from this, you
know they did with Deej and Wichi. I just got
a feeling they changed Whittle to Willie. But nobody nobody
yelled and scream at their their computer or their headphones
right now because I didn't go double check that, So forgive.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
Me on that.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
But but you know, low Gray is consistent there. But
we don't see well of course Chukka truck spoiler from
nineteen eighty four does die and Kank is the ewalk priestess.
We don't don't Well, we haven't gotten into the second season,
so they could bring her in there, but we haven't
(28:29):
seen her in the first season.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
You know, Ewok animated series.
Speaker 5 (28:33):
Yeah, we haven't seen her yet in there, so she
may show up still she mu Like you said, I
have not seen that show. So I'm watching it as
we go, and we're on what episode thirteen.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
Of season one?
Speaker 4 (28:45):
Yeah, still wrapping up that and I'm listening as you
I did not watch them either back at that time.
Same with these two TV shows, So I'm I'm kind
of going along with you. I just I was here
when you were overseas. But I just, like I said,
I was at that point in high school and really
getting into into basketball. So I really kind of peeled
(29:08):
away from Saturday Morning Cartoons. Wish I would not have,
because I like, I love the droids, I love these
these walks.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
I just get a kick out of It's fun.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
So but but yeah, the characters. You know, I was
gonna mention this to you. You know this, this giant
gore axe is is pretty scary when you look at
it again, I took myself back in time. How would
I do with something like this at five six or seven,
let alone eight. You know, see Invader coming, You're like,
(29:38):
holy Crow. He was pretty intimidating. But this thing was
pretty wild looking and the way they shot it. He
was big and moved slow and all that. And then
you and I talked about another not necessarily character, but
an animal, which is I called it this dog beast.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
You called it, what did you call it?
Speaker 5 (29:54):
The the rod of unusual size?
Speaker 1 (29:57):
And that that thing is asked you.
Speaker 5 (30:00):
Look, it's oh yeah, And if y'all, if y'all catch
that reference, it's directly from the movie Princess Bride, because
in the when the swamp there and Princess Bride, they
come across that rodent of unusual size. But it's you know,
it's like dog size. This thing is like, you know,
(30:22):
elephant size. I mean, this thing is huge that the
ewoks are fighting and end up chasing them. This it
was ugly though. I mean it literally looked like an
enlarged version of the Rodent of Unusual Size from Princess Bride.
But this thing was scary, dude. I mean, I can
(30:43):
imagine being if I had watched this in nineteen eighty
four when it aired, you know, I mean, not that
I had remembered it. I'd have been four, but it
was interesting. I probably would have I probably would have
been scared. Between that and the gore axe, I would
have I probably wouldn't have slept for a week.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
Well, And and Aubrey Miller. Aubrey Miller, she was four
in the filming of this first movie, so obviously the
way they did it, you know, it's not there, but
I think that would have really scared her, you know.
And plus at the end of the movie, she's not
over there by the Gore act. She does have a
giant spider by her, but he walks wickets with her.
(31:25):
But that would have scared me at that age, at
four or five, six seven. There's no question. It's more
than just it is a nasty looking and the way
they filmed it, it's really huge next to the characters.
So but in the Gore Ax too, that that could
give me nightmares thinking about that thing coming, you know,
(31:47):
and the fur on it and the eyes and just
you know, it's looking back at it.
Speaker 1 (31:53):
That's pretty pretty scary for.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
Eighty four for you know what I'm saying, Like when
we think about the animated feature, nothing as scary as
as those two creatures, no question.
Speaker 5 (32:08):
Oh yeah, no question at all, you know. And even
and then that's one thing that amazed me. Of course,
we look at the other stars of this. We've only
been talking about the the e Walks, but we have Mace,
of course, who was in there, who was played by
Eric Walker. And we have Syndel, who plays May's sister,
(32:31):
played by Aubrey Miller. And of course she said told everybody,
I'm going to go. She was four years old when
they filmed us, which completely blows my mind. But then
again you sit there and you think about it. You know,
look at Wack Davis waket in eighty four, he was
(32:52):
what fourteen?
Speaker 1 (32:54):
I think what was he was eleven?
Speaker 4 (32:55):
I think when they did Return of the Jedi in
eighty three eleven, so he twelve thirteen?
Speaker 5 (33:04):
Yeah, let's see work David. He was fourteen. He was
born February third of nineteen seventy, so he just had
a birthday. Happy related birthday, work Davis. So yeah, so
if they filmed in eighty four, summer of eighty four,
he would have been fourteen years old. So, I mean,
(33:25):
he was not much older than Eric and was only
ten years older than then Aubrey when they filmed this.
But and of course who would have thought that work
Davis would have been the uh seasoned veteran on that set.
Speaker 4 (33:45):
Yeah, yeah, a movie season veteran.
Speaker 5 (33:49):
Yeah, and not only a movie he was the Star
Wars seasoned veteran on the set.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
Yeah, more than all of them, right.
Speaker 5 (33:57):
It still is, Yeah, that book between him and him
and Anthony Daniels. Yeah, they are always if there's a
Star Wars movie coming out, they find a way into it.
Speaker 1 (34:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (34:11):
Well, just a little bit of detail here under our
easter eggs. We always kind of have a section on that.
I went back and listened to Skywalking through neverlanda podcast
by Richard and Sarah Wlaski, and I remember listening to
this three years ago. It was episode three seventy six.
They released it on June twenty third, twenty twenty two.
(34:33):
Because I want to give them credit. They work really hard,
and you know, we've had fun with them. I've had
fun with Richard and Sarah at Hollywood Studios here when
they came over in twenty nineteen from they live in
the LA area. But they did a panel at Star
Wars celebration twenty twenty two and Anaheim called celebrating the
(34:54):
Ewok Adventures, and they had Eric Walker on there along
with Kevin Thompson, who played Chuka Trock who dies at
the end there and his wife is also I'm trying
to remember her name. If it's Kathy Thompson, you gotta
forgive me. But Eric Walker gave some interesting kind of
(35:16):
little tidbits, and we were just talking about Aubrey Miller
playing Cindal. He says, if you look at the original
script for this show, for this TV movie, there's a
lot more conversation and interaction between Mace and Cyndeal, but
because of her age, she didn't know how to read,
so she's not reading and remembering lines.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
And so.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
Eric Walker at that panel shared a little behind the
scenes thing that that is not Aubrey's Miller's voice at
all in this entire episode. They brought another actress in
and she, you know, did adr right additional dialog recording
and it was this person voice now, he said, by
Battle for end Or, she's five a little bit older,
(36:05):
and it was a world of difference, and that's her
in her voice in that movie. So, you know, like
Eric said, he ended up getting a number of her
lines and just having to carry a lot of it,
you know, versus it being a more balanced Mace and
uh Sindel kind of kind of story. But I still
felt that it was. They still really showcased her a
(36:27):
lot with Wicked and all that. So just a little
details I wanted to share. But give credit to Richard
and Sarah on Skywalking through Neverland in that panel they did.
Speaker 5 (36:38):
Yeah, yeah, well done, well done. Yeah. I'm glad you
pointed that episode out to me because I got to
go dig back and locate that one and listen to
that one. I remember listening to it years ago when
it was released. I just forgot about it, and I'm
glad you refreshed my memory on that. So I mentioned
earlier in the episode, and you just brought him up
(37:00):
again with Mace and Eric Walker having to carry the episode.
But I want to talk about the character of Mace because,
as I mentioned in my my opening initial reactions we
were talking, I mentioned, you know, I felt he had
a great story, great development throughout the story, and we
see him right off the bat from the beginning when
(37:22):
the two of the e Walks locate U Sindel, his
little sister and uh he and they're they're trying to
help her, and all of a sudden, he comes busting into
the room with his little blaster rifle and his barking
out orders and his Wanta be x wing flight suit
(37:43):
and is and he is like untrusting. He is doing
everything to defend his sister, and his sister's the one saying,
you know, back off, they're trying to be friends, They're
going to help us, and and he's he's very distrusting
through has to and throughout this adventure and throughout this journey,
(38:04):
we see him trust, starting to trust, then distrusting and
starting to trust. Then there'll be a moment of distrust
and as he journeys to the end and become really
be friends and become and becomes trusting uh partners with
with the Ewoks. And it's I loved the development of
(38:27):
the character and how they put him through these trials
as they went on where he had to depend on
Wicked and on Uh Chuka Truck and Kank and the
crew that were with them, and especially when they were
giving out the talismans and there a couple of them
(38:48):
are getting wings. You know, Wicked gets a stick and
Base gets a rock, right, and he's like it's just
a stupid rock and start leaving the village. He kind
of tosses it to the side, and if it wasn't
for Wicket. You know that they would have been lost
because he tosses his gift to the side about Wicket
(39:10):
recovered it and brought it with them.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
I thought that was really cool.
Speaker 5 (39:14):
Yeah, it really was. It really was, especially when he's like,
oh man, I threw it away, and you see all
the other Ewoks are just you know, face palming, and
they're like, oh great, we came all this way for nothing.
Then Wickett runs up and goes here you go, and
he's like, oh, you brought my rock. But just the
character growth that we see in this character, and it
(39:36):
really came to fluition. They're in the the at the
end of the episode or at the end of the
movie when you mentioned earlier spoiler alert if you have
not seen it, Chuck a truck, you know, kicks the bucket.
He doesn't really kick the bucket. He has to ref
fall on him, right, and you know, he kind of
(39:59):
dies in he's Mace's arms and he's he's trying to
tell Mace go on, you know, take care of yourself,
and and he just kind of dies and he and
Mace is like, no, man, you're my friend. You're my friend.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
We gotta go.
Speaker 5 (40:14):
Come on, You'll be okay, and he just kind of
takes his last breath and does the ewalk uh and
roll over u thing that we see in Return of
the Jedi so much, but it was it was very
you know, to me, that was almost that was crushing
because he finally got to the point where he fully
(40:38):
trusted the Ewalks. His journey had come to completion, and
he didn't realize until an ewalk gave his life for
his family.
Speaker 4 (40:49):
Yeah, and he he made sure to tell his family,
you know, because he came down those stairs and he
said he died to save us. And I'm with you,
you know again, I think, you know, the first time
I watch anything Star Wars, I think what happens Aaron,
and I've said this to you is I think I'm trying
to take so much in music, special effects, characters, what's
(41:12):
in the corners? You don't, you know Star Wars fans,
we're always looking at every little detail. That's the way
we are now watching the second time, I definitely focused
in on how he started and like you said.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
Mad.
Speaker 4 (41:27):
Not trusting in the Ewoks, and as time goes on,
slowly but surely appreciates them, develops friendships and they do
come together to to rescue the twenty parents, and it's
it's it's nice to see that it does mirror Luke
(41:49):
to a certain degree, right, the whiny teenager who saves
the day. And you know we see it here on
a on a much smaller level.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
But yeah, I like how Eric Walker did.
Speaker 4 (42:01):
It, and and I thought he did a he did
a good job. And you know, again, going back to
if I was eight, nine or ten, I'd be like
I would love to be him and be the hero
and help my sister and help the Ewoks and defeat
the Gorax. Heck, yes, in a Star Wars show or movie.
(42:23):
H signed me up, man, sign me up?
Speaker 5 (42:27):
Oh absolutely, And I think honestly that's why the Again,
going back to Skeleton Crew, I think that's why it
was so popular because it brought us. It basically took
us into the show and kept us, kept us fun
and helped us relive it childhood because you know, like
(42:49):
you said, when we were kids, we wanted to be
those characters, and in Skeleton Crew, those kids wanted to
be the Jedi and out in the galaxy and they
get their wish. So it was very connecting.
Speaker 4 (43:02):
Well, yeah, I mean I want to be whim. I
want to be you know, KB, I want to be Fern,
you know. I mean, if you're a boy or girl,
you want to be those characters. Neil, they got to
go on the adventure they found the spaceship. Oh my gosh,
I'm so so jelly, you know, in such a good way.
But yeah, I want to be Mason and Sendal on
(43:23):
a big adventure and meet the Ewoks and defeat the Gorax. Heck, yes,
and and you nailed it. I think it felt the
same way as Skeleton Crew. I want to be in
that adventure, defeat the pirates, help the parents again, right
and uh uh and go from there.
Speaker 1 (43:39):
But yeah, and to be heroes.
Speaker 5 (43:42):
Yeah, yeah, definitely it makes uh makes it makes it
makes it? Uh, it makes it. It makes it more
connecting movie when you want to be a part of something,
when you can watch it and be like, I wish
that was me. That's true.
Speaker 1 (43:57):
That's right.
Speaker 5 (43:59):
Well, anything else you want to hit on before we
jump into final reactions for this episode for our Caravan
of Courage, I don't think so.
Speaker 4 (44:16):
Was there any other little things that they talked about
in that other one? I would I guess what I
would say is I would encourage people to take a
listen to that episode episode three seventy six again at
air June twenty third, twenty twenty two. There was another one.
I didn't have time to look for and listen to erin,
but I think it was prior to that panel that
(44:39):
Richard and Sarah Wolaski did at Star Wars celebration because
they're friends with Eric Walker and they have been over
the years. Is I wanted to listen to an episode
where they just interview him and talk about his experiences
on the set and with George Lucas shooting those those
(45:01):
reshoots and stuff like that. But I just didn't have time.
But if people you want to scroll back through their library,
I would do that because I think there's other interviews
that they do with Eric Walker. But if you just
did that episode three seventy six, you get a lot
of neat, little behind the scenes stuff. Also, you know,
(45:21):
Eric Walker shares how we auditioned and got the role
and so on and so forth.
Speaker 1 (45:26):
So I'd also say this, you.
Speaker 4 (45:31):
Know, Aubrey Miller hasn't really done any interviews about her
role in these two movies. She's just really never really
embraced it. It'd be kind of cool to get her
input and insights into her experiences and stuff like that.
But you could probably with the second movie because she
might not really remember much. But I do wish that
(45:54):
she would do that, but absolutely respect her for just
you know, doing her role and then living her life.
But other than that, no, I didn't have anything else.
Speaker 6 (46:10):
Okay, all right, all right, all right, Well let's go
ahead and jump into our final reactions here and get
it going.
Speaker 5 (46:21):
So I'll start it off since she started off initial reactions.
You know, for me, like I said, this was a
fun adventure for me because I had missed out on
a lot of these eighties shows and movies being oversea,
growing up overseas. So I really enjoyed this Caravan a
Courage movie. It was fun, it was entertaining, you know,
(46:42):
it was fun to see the Ewalks again. And after
seeing this movie and seeing most of the first season
of The e Walks heres, I can understand now why
everyone was Ewalk crazy during the after return of the
Jedi came out. They really pushed the Ewok characters and
(47:04):
it was great fun too, so they really were entertaining.
I loved the story. I thought the I thought, Eric
Walker and at Aubrey miller Man being four years old
just making this movie. Bravo, fantastic movie, great story, I
(47:24):
love the character growth. It was just all around fun
for me and I am so glad we took the
time to sit down and do this episode so I
could actually watch this and it was a lot of fun.
So there we go. How about you, my friend, oh.
Speaker 4 (47:40):
Man, ditto everything you said. It's a ton of fun.
I would encourage people get in the mindset of being
six seventy eight.
Speaker 1 (47:47):
Years old and just how cool this isn't how fun
it is?
Speaker 4 (47:51):
You know, George Lucas created this, both this and The
Battle friend or for his daughter Amanda. Remember George, you
know made you know, the original Star Wars for what
what I've heard people say anywhere from you know, eight
to twelve year olds, right, And it's the same here,
you know, And you know, don't sit here and get
(48:12):
all high faluting and you know, get into you know,
oscar talk and oh you know, no, that's not what
George Lucas is trying to do here. It's to make
really fun, entertaining shows that have a moral right. We've
talked about this at length when We've covered the Star
Wars animated series, the Ewoks animated series, and how there's
(48:35):
really good morals, teamwork, getting through adversity, going through multiple
steps to solve problems, all good.
Speaker 1 (48:44):
Things, and that's what is in this movie.
Speaker 4 (48:47):
And you know, I agree with what Aaron said. I
thought Aubrey Miller, she's just the cutest thing ever and
to see her with Wicked was wonderful. And just to
see this adventure, like I said, I want to go
on that venture.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
I want to be there with them.
Speaker 4 (49:01):
I want to be a tawny kid and go with
the Ewoks and defeat the Gore Ax.
Speaker 1 (49:05):
Of course I do. So I would encourage people to
watch it.
Speaker 4 (49:11):
You know, it's right there under the Vintage collection, like
Aaron mentioned, with the Droid's animated series the Ewoks, that's
got you know, the story the Faithful Wookie, which is
the what animated short that was in the Star Wars
Holiday special. They got the Clone Wars micro series. There
(49:32):
a lot of good stuff for people to check out
there under the Vintage banner on Disney Plus. So I
would encourage people and just have fun and just have
a very fun mindset and just just sit down and
watch this.
Speaker 1 (49:47):
Star Wars from George Lucas exactly.
Speaker 5 (49:51):
I definitely recommend doing that too. It's definitely something you
want to do, especially now when we're Star Wars starting
to slow down little bit on Disney. Plus we got
Indoor coming in a couple months. We got and then
after that there's nothing really announced for the rest of
the year, so we want to make sure we enjoy
(50:12):
what we get but what we have any But if
there's stuff there you haven't watched, like me, the vintage stuff,
check it out, watch it, enjoy it. You will love
it and you'll enjoy it. It's fun to see how
they kept Star Wars alive after Return of the Jedi,
so definitely check it out. So all right, well, of
(50:35):
course we want to hear from you and hear your
thoughts on if you have seen Caravan of Courage, let

Speaker 5 (53:21):
All right, here we go. The very first Star Wars
Dead joke of the week is as follows, what side
of an ewok has the most hair?
Speaker 1 (53:36):
M I don't know what side of an ewok has
the most hair.
Speaker 5 (53:43):
The outside?
Speaker 4 (53:45):
Oh eye roll, eye roll?
Speaker 1 (53:50):
Grown what? Oh my gosh?
Speaker 5 (53:58):
Uh oh? You ready for the next one?
Speaker 1 (54:01):
But I think I've recovered. Okay, I know you're about.
Speaker 5 (54:05):
To lose it on this one. I guarantee you. Did
you know Fazzy Bear. You know Fazzy Bear from the Muppets,
Fazzy Bear was in Star Wars.
Speaker 4 (54:15):
I did not know Fazzy Bear was in Star Wars.
Speaker 5 (54:18):
Yep, he was in a walka WALKA thank you.
Speaker 4 (54:26):
Oh that's kind of good.
Speaker 5 (54:33):
I feel a bunch of virtual tomatoes being thrown at
me like Fozzy gets walk.
Speaker 1 (54:38):
Walk it's his face right.
Speaker 5 (54:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (54:45):
Wow, you have tough, my friend.
Speaker 5 (54:50):
I try, I try, my friend. This was a blast,
Oh my god.
Speaker 4 (54:56):
