Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is Emily Swallow and you're listening to Star
Wars Reactions.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
This is the Way To podcast.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Has been Awake of your father?

Speaker 4 (00:11):
In nineteen seventy seven, George Lucas formed a legacy and
inspired by mythology, his soaka has become a passion for many.
His legend has become our story, one of resistance.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
We are at a like rebellion and redemption.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
I JA, this is Star Wars Reactions.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Remember we'll do with you always.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Well, Hello there everybody, and welcome to Star Wars Reactions.
Welcome back to another fantastic episode. We're so excited to
be back behind the mics and be with you. And
I just realized my air conditioners still running, so uh,
let's turn that off. It probably sounds a whole lot

(01:09):
quieter now on my enduse just normally I've turned it
off before we start. But you know whatever, I a
lot going on not going on, so let's get an
interducts out of the way. We'll get into it. My
name is Aaron Harrison. Joining me as always is the
three po to. My R two is the David Matters

(01:30):
David Brother.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Why why that? Well, I mean we're back recording again.
I just wanted to do a preemptive strike and let
everybody know my I'm a little froggy, so just bear
with me, but I'll make it through. I was looking
forward to recording with Aaron. I'm ready to react and
uh and I you know, I definitely want to cover

(01:53):
this arc more than I did the previous arc.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Yeah, this was this was the one we were waiting for.
This is the one we've wanted to talk about. We
are discussing, continuing, of course, our discussion from two seventeen,
we're talking about Tales of the Underworld, but this week
we are discussing the Ventureross arc. The Venturous Arc three episodes,

(02:21):
all released May fourth, twenty twenty five. The stories were
all by the Fabulous Man himself, the voice behind my
favorite droid, the Dave Faloni. The first episode, A Way Forward,
was directed by Saul Ruiz and written by Metz Novitz

(02:43):
Mitch Novitz Friends, the second episode directed by Stewart Lee
and also written by Matt Metschnovitz, and last but not least,
One Warrior to Another, directed by Nate Villanueva and written
by Matt Mention Novs. I could have probably shortened that
up and said a lot of time by sang All
three written by Matt Metsnowtz. But anyway, fantastic episodes dealing

(03:10):
with ventures basically telling a story of meeting up with
an unexpected ally which puts her in the crosshairs of
the Empire and then ends up, you know, making some
choices that basically lead to the person we see in
the bat batch ultimately. So yeah, fantastic episodes. So let's

(03:35):
go ahead and kick off some initial reactions. Brother, why
don't you take the floor and give it your best?

Speaker 2 (03:43):
All right, I'll do my best well to start, you know,
I've I've always enjoyed a size ventress. Really since the
Clone Wars micro series are really are.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
For the rec since we've come back, I'm sorry to interrupt,
since we came back from from being away from my mom,
that passing away and everything. We've had to change our
recording system because the skyte has gone away and we're
now using video so we could see. For all two

(04:22):
hundred and ten episodes, we never saw each other. We
just talked like we were on the phone. But now
we're using video so we could see each other. So
I was talking, I just picked up my coke can
and showed him my handy Dandy Star Wars Kylo Rencan
and apparently cracked them up little more than I anticipated.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
So well, I've liked the videos you put out when
you find different. You've been all over this Coca Cola
Star Wars mashup, which is cool.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Yeah, it's been fun. You know, I haven't found this
is the first case of the cans I found, and
I'm halfway through the case and they've all been Kylo Wrenn. Okay, okay,
feeling that Forrest is trying to tell me something.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Yes, it needs to be your new favorite character.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Not there's no beaten shots, no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
No, So we can call it a Caravath moment because
so no. I you know, I loved this character. I
still do all the way back to the micro series
and then of course even in the Clone Wars movie
that came out in two thousand and eight. I love

(05:39):
Nika Futterman's voice. It's so sultry, it's so awesome, and
I you know, I enjoyed this mini arc more than
the Cabmane arc. And you know, on second viewing, you know,
I like this arc more than the Morgan Elsbeth arc
because you had homework for us, and so my my
radige changed a bit, and so that was fun to do.

(06:02):
So I made sure to do all that back then,
I think Tuesday night I did all these ratings, but
overall really enjoyable. Like I said, I just really liked
this character. I loved her banter with Obi Wan over
the years, and really she has an arc where she
has come a long ways. Then and Poe, we make
an argument in the sequel trilogy, who is that talking

(06:25):
to the other day? They have no arc? Ray does,
but you know, I mean John Boy, it was mad
about the lack of an arc. But Massage has really
had a long story arc and I've enjoyed it. So
those are just some of my initial reactions. How about you, buddy,
So for me, you know, I.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Agree with you. This was a fantastic arc. Definitely one
of my favorites to come out of the Tail series.
And we'll go over those ratings that I assigned for
home work and I got your rating, Davids, I got,
of course, I know mine, And of course we got
a couple emails with some ratings in them that will

(07:09):
share as well. When we go over that towards the end,
but you know, this was just a fantastic story about
a fantastic character. And I think back to one of
our listeners that we had on the show a while back,
Real farm Boy. He said, tell me a good story. Now,

(07:30):
this is a good story. And bringing the Nika Futterman
back to as Massage, she nailed it. Can't wait to
actually meet her at Okaala Kama Con in September. This
is a character who I enjoyed in Clone Wars. I
enjoyed when she came back in Bad Batch, but it

(07:52):
left open a lot of questions when it came to
Dark Disciple, and this arc answered the questions as to
how we got from Clone Wars to Bad Batch, how
we got how and it truly answers how they kept

(08:14):
Dark Disciple as Cannon and I go back to when
Bad Batch came out and the Adventurous episode came out
and everybody was freaking out because you know Dark Disciple,
Oh my gosh, you're contradicting Dark Disciple. And Dave you
heard the day say you trust us? Nothing trust us?

(08:36):
Here it is He knew that, he already knew this
was coming, This was already in the works. He had
the story going before it was done, and it worked perfectly.
So my initial reactions, this was gorgeous. It was well animated,
the colors vibrant, This was truly an underworld story, and

(08:59):
I loved every moment of it. Right, So for there,
let's jump into our talking points. So of course I
want to start off with the very first episode One
Way Forward, David, because this, this is this is this

(09:20):
that that opening scene of One Way Forward, that's what
ties in Dark, That's what brings Dark Disciples back into
Cannon and puts the pieces together. It opens up with
Quinland Voss and Obi Wan Kenobi, the Clone Wars version
of Obi Wan on Dathamre. Quinland carrying Sage's deceased body.

(09:48):
They layer in one of the lakes there on Dathamre
and leave, and once she's in the lake, the power
of the Dathamir which is revive and and she's given
a choice. She's given a choice to you know, be
dead or she can go back to life, but at

(10:09):
the cost of what her heart truly desires. I mean,
come on, come on, I know, oh you know Wars
Star Wars has given us some great love stories, you know,
Anakin and Padame, but Clone Wars, I mean between they

(10:32):
continue the the the Padames Patame uh Anakin story wonderfully,
the obi Wan Seten story, Oh my gosh, breaks my
heart every time. And and quinnlan Vawson and Venturists. I mean,

(10:53):
come on, these are some of the greatest. These are
some fantastic Clove stories that are absoluteolutely heartbreaking and devastating.
I mean, Patame passes away, Anakin loses it. You know,
you have you have Seten dying in obi Wan's arms,

(11:14):
and I keep going back, and as she in the
last thing, she says, oh my gosh, I just can't
how she's confessed, how she's always loved him and always will.
And then and then of course Darkness. If y'all have
not read Dark Disciple, I don't care. If you don't

(11:35):
like reading, get the audible version.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
This Dark Disciple is a book that literally was taken
from an un finished and unmade Clone Wars arc. This
was supposed to be episodes of the Clone Wars that
they put in. When they got canceled, they put in
the book. They made the book, and it's one of

(12:01):
the best books you'll ever read. It's cannon. It is
just absolutely fantasy. I'm trying to remember who wrote that book.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Oh, I'll tell you, Christy Golden.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
That's right, Christy Golden. I got to see that's the one.
That's one of the books I got to replace from
the flood. Yes, so because I lost my copy of
Dark Disciple. It's going to be hard to replace a
lot of those because a lot of them were hardcovers.
You can't play the most anymore. But man, Dark Disciple,

(12:33):
you got to see that because that makes that opening
scene so much more powerful.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
M Well, I would say this brother that with Bad
Bad season three, and they showed that clip of asage.
I went back and I had already owned the book
back in twenty fifteen, had Christy Golden sign up, by
the way, but there in your backyard in Lakeland, and

(13:03):
so I got the audible version. Okay, yeah, that was
back You weren't I remember, for some reason, you weren't
able to go. It was over at a local library
at that time. It was a column and you you
had told me about it, you said, day there's a
smaller con here. I drove down to Lakeland. Something came up.

(13:24):
You weren't able to go, and I I tried to
record a lot of what she was saying and the
question and answer thing. And it was a little local Lakeland.
I don't know that it was Central Florida Comic Con,
but it was a small, little one and she came
and I was surprised, and I was able to talk
to her and pick her brain. She was awesome. She

(13:46):
I would love for her to write more Star Wars books.
In fact, I think because she did so well with that,
she was hired by was it World of Warcraft? Wow,
w W World of Warcraft to write books for them.
But I went back through the audible version along with
my hardcover, you know, and listen to all of that

(14:07):
because I wanted to be able to speed on that
again before bad Batch and Massage Ventris coming back now
in this beginning episode. In that clip, I'm like, oh
my gosh, I go right back to the end of
Dark Disciple, And one of the talking points I put
in here is that this episode made me just like

(14:28):
you were singing a minute ago. I want all those episodes.
I want the whole all of Dark Disciple to be animated,
you know, and and flow right into this one. But
I don't those aren't going to be done. But I'll
tell you, Christy Golden did a great job taking those
scripts and pulling that together. And I love that book.

(14:50):
And I'm going to tell you this, and I've said it.
I've been very consistent over the years on our podcast.
I'm looking over right now, buddy, you know at a
lot of the books that came out, you know, in
two thousand, starting in twenty fifteen with a New Dog
right by John Jackson Miller, A lot of them. I
don't think you need, but you I've been consistent on this.

(15:11):
You have to read Darknesscycles. It's so good.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
Yeah, well, we'll actually have to sit down and do
that for a future episode, David, where we talk about
what books have come out that that we feel or
must reads. Yeah, and from from the from from when
they took out Disney took over Ford because we released
some fantastic books.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
But uh, that's right.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
But yeah, it is one of those things that's it's
so it's so there's so much depth in this in
this episode, and they keep it going NonStop as they meet.
As as the story proceeds, she ends up being a
kind of like a bouncer, and that's where she ends
up meeting at Jedia. Yeah, leco Strata LIKEO Strata. Young guy, young, young,

(16:10):
young boy. And you can tell he's got the weight
of the world on his shoulders. And even as he's
as Assage is trying to bounce him from the spaceport
ticket window, he's she's telling he's telling her, I've lost everything,
I have nothing, I've lost everything. And if anybody could

(16:32):
understand that, if anybody could understand that, he was talking
to the right person, because that Casissage lost everything. She
lost her position with Dooku, she lost the Night Sisters,
she lost Quinnlan, she lost everything.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
M h.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
And I think that's why she connects. She took this
kid on, you know, reluctantly. She didn't want to do it,
but she did and it ended up saving this kid's life.
And and I love how too this and it builds

(17:16):
through the two are the tow the other two episodes,
you end up building into what we see in Obi
Wan and the Obi Wan Kenobi series, that underground, the
Jedi Underground, and it just to me, it's just it
this this are this arc tied into so many different

(17:39):
places that it just when you can make those connections
like they did, It makes it so much more. It
adds so much more weight to the story because it's
not just a right, here's a free standing story. Hey, No,
it ties in. Okay, where canting Obi wan Kenoby. With this,

(18:03):
we're connecting the Dark Disciple and bridging that gap. We're
going into the Obi Wan Kenoby thing and getting that
Jedi underground. Yeah, I mean we have there's so much there.
Oh yeah, it just is incredible. And we're seeing that
transition to uh into the Empire, and it's just I

(18:23):
tell you, they did such a fan I can't say
enough about this about this arc is incredible.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
I really like what you said there about it connecting.
You really got me thinking about stuff. I wasn't thinking
about all the connections. In fact, you know, I like Cleinland.
I saw him a little bit, we all did a
little bit in the Clone Wars. But I'm telling you,
this Dark Disciple, the whole book really made me a
big fan of Quinland Boss. And then, like you said,

(18:56):
this starts off with him and you see his love
for Ventris and and I like the character even more
so it ties in there. Then, like you said, in
the next two episodes, ties into the Path, which we
see in Obi Wan Kenobi right that that limited series
and in more discussion about Quentin Boss and I thought
it was all done in a really good way, and

(19:18):
like you said, provides connections and a through line on
a lot of this. So I like how you said it.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, it's a they they Dave Feloney, Dave
Feloney created it. It was this was his baby. He
birthed it. But to have you could tell Dave sat
down with Matt Metznowitz when he wrote these stories, and

(19:51):
there was you could tell by the depth of each
of these stories that Dave poured himself into these stories.
He bridged the gap, He used his his Star Wars
knowledge and bridged the gaps, made the connections. I mean,
I keep I I just all I can picture is
Dave Filonis sitting at one of those old telephone switchboards,

(20:14):
connecting cables and plugging in cables to make connections for
people and just being storylines. It's he's the master storyteller
for for for Star Wars. Right now there is you know,
I love what I love what they did with and or,
what Glory did with and or, But nobody can tell

(20:35):
a Star Wars story like Dave Filoni.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
Oh yeah, yeah, you know, Tony Gilroy is doing it
more with non force users, but Dave has done it
in all these different realms, and it's it's just a
lot of fun.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
You know.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
I just don't know how many people you know, I
mean diehards. You know, we're diehards, and people listening to
this are most likely diehards, and so it's enjoyable for us, right,
this is this is a lot of fun. This was
a lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (21:11):
It is, you know, And I I read an article, uh,
and we're going off on a tangent here that's not
in our notes, but you know, I read an article
today talking about the future of Lucasfilm and uh, you know,
because Kathleen Kennedy is not going to be around forever.

(21:32):
You know, at some point nothing's been announced, but at
some point, you know, they have to talk session and
there this article was like who will take over Lucasfilm, when, if,
and when Kathleen Kennedy leaves? And they made arguments for
Tony Gilroy taking over, they made arguments for Dave Filoni.

(21:56):
There was a actually one person one part said it
would be a split leadership that Carrie I think they
said it was a carryback. I think they said carry
Beck would take over Lucasfilm as the overseer, but they

(22:17):
would be the co as overall creative, which is kind
of the role he has now he's the creative officer.
But I thought that was interesting. But when they were
talking about Filoni and they were talking about Tony Gilroy,
They're like, you have two very different storytellers, and both

(22:42):
of them have made very successful Star Wars. You have
Tony Gilroy who did and Or, which is just a
chef's kiss, masterpiece of storytelling. And Or is just incredible,
But it is a story that is told without having
to know what came before. You don't have to have

(23:05):
seen the movies. You don't have to have seen the
animated series, you don't have to have seen the other shows.
You don't have to have read the books, you don't
have to read the comics. You can just step into
and Or and enjoy a fantastic story where Dave Filoni.
You look at his projects, the Tales series, Ahsoka, Mandalorian,

(23:29):
you look at the series that he's heavily been involved in, Rebels,
stuff like that, and you get in depth Star Wars Lore.
You get stuff in these episodes, like this Assaj thing
that connects and pulls into other Star Wars scenes that
if you haven't seen Kenobi, you're not going to understand

(23:51):
about the Jedi Path, about the Path if you haven't seen,
if you have not read Dark Disciple, you don't truly
understand what really happened there. At the beginning, you just
have two guys walking up and Duncan or in the water.
I mean, you don't have these connections. You don't understand
if you had not seen the movies. You don't understand
why this kid has lost everything because you don't know

(24:15):
about Order sixty six. These are the connections that Felony
brings in to these things that one drives the fans
crazy because it makes us so excited because we see
these connections. But two, it also adds additional depth and
layers to the story. So you got two very different
storytellers here that both are doing the best work when

(24:40):
it comes to Star Wars. So I read that today
and I'm like, man, that's just fantastic. The way they
the way they broke it down was just fantastic. I'm
trying to remember where I read that off to go
back online and pull it up and see if I
can find it and post it. But it was a
good article. It was a really I should have send
it to you. I don't know why I didn't it

(25:02):
because I was it was I was at lunch at
work and I was reading it and I got ran
out of time. But it's a great article, really good article.
But yeah, that the different The storytelling that Dave doesn't
in these projects is just very deep and very layered.
He makes onions, and I say onions because as you

(25:25):
start peeling in the layers, it makes you cry.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
So oh so.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
So before we got off on the tangent, we had
just started talking about LIKEO Strata and this this young
man who is dealing with his loss and has h assage.
Uh kind of take him under his under her wing.
So honestly, what are your thoughts on Leco?

Speaker 5 (25:56):
You like him?

Speaker 4 (25:57):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (25:58):
Do you think it's just a are we starting to
see too many survivors of Order sixty six? What are
your thoughts there?

Speaker 2 (26:05):
Yeah, that's that's something that I was wondering. I was
wondering if other fans, you know, people who listen to
our podcast or you know who have who have taken in,
you know, all the materials you were just mentioning, the movies,
the comics, the animation, all the series like you and
I have. I was wondering if people felt like that.
I initially felt like that with him. My first viewing,

(26:28):
I'm like, ah, another kid, Order sixty six. You know,
we've got you know, Jedi Fallen Order writing, Jedi Survivor
based on calcastas you know, we keep seeing a lot
of this. But in my second viewing, watching all three
and you know, preparing for this tonight, I like this
guy more. I just had to watch him. I watch

(26:51):
him interact the way that Matt Mintionevetz wrote it. He's
a little bit snirky with her and kind of teasing.
But as I watch it, I like it. Now they
get along with each other and all their relationship develops,
And so I ended up liking him more. As I

(27:11):
watched it the second time, I'm like, Okay, I I
I can dig this kid, and and I and I
I like his his banter with massage.

Speaker 3 (27:22):
Oh yeah, no, his banter with assage is perfect. And
going back to which to the to the another Survivor
of Order sixty six, the thoughts you know, because it
I had that discussion with myself back when Rebels premiere
ah with Caana and Jarris, because it was I was like,

(27:45):
you know, we had this whole thing where why how
could there be if Order sixty all we heard about
the Clone Wars and we had seen the movies. We
had saw the Clone Wars, we had saw the Clone
Wars series, we saw the prequel, so we saw we
knew what happened in Order sixty six. But the thought
of you know, you go back to the original trilogy,

(28:09):
you know, he's the last last Oh no, there's one another. Okay,
Yah is his sister, but they were the last Jedi.
Now all of a sudden, you have Canaan Jaris, and
now we have like a strata. We got the kid
from a Jedi fallen Order Calcastus. I mean, we have

(28:31):
Jedis popping up left and right that survived the Order.
I mean we see in the Kenobi series a whole
wall of Jedi names that have survived, including Quinlan. Voss's
name is on the wall, right, So there is, and
I remember wrestling with it, especially when Rebels premiered and

(28:52):
Canaan showed up. I was wrestling with I just don't.
I'm struggling. I was really struggling with it, and I
go back and I actually had it. I remember talking
to to Dan dan ze Her from Coffee with Kenobi
Uh because I was part of Coffee I was blogging

(29:12):
for them at that point and really remembered having a
discussion with him where we talked about the Order and everything,
and he he basically he basically pointed out, you know,
we're talking about an order that was spread out galaxy wide.

(29:33):
Not all of these guys were running around with clones,
so there wouldn't have been a clone with every Jedi
to execute them. And so the one yes, there definitely
would be survivors. Then we saw how then we got
bad match. We got to see how Canaan survived. We
I mean, they're there. We get to see how Ah

(29:54):
Soka survived when they finally released season seven of Clone Wars.
So there's a lot in play there that we can
that we have going on. And I'm really glad that
I had that discussion then because now as all these
other things that come out, I was I didn't have
to wrestle with that thing because I got that out

(30:15):
of the way. Then it's just more a peace, you know,
with with it, like, Okay, another Jedi, Yeah makes sense,
there would be another there, there there would be you
know yeah.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
Yeah, so yeah, good point, good points all wrong.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
Yeah, absolutely so we got.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
The other thing that we wanted to to really hit
on real quick was the inquisitors because we see an
inquisitor in this arc as well, you know all you
know we saw rebels and where we were first introduced
to the inquisitors in animation. Uh, we see them in

(30:55):
the Kenobi series, we see them in Tales of the
Jedi and of the Tales of the Jedi, we've seen
them in Star Wars visions. These guys are too easily beaten.

Speaker 2 (31:10):
That's that's part of it.

Speaker 4 (31:13):
I mean.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
Everyone we see gets beaten.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
Well, even the one in the Soka Poof Poof. Yeah. Yeah,
I mean it's just I mean, there's just.

Speaker 3 (31:26):
I mean it's ridiculous how how quick they all just
they fight, they fight, they fight, They put up good fights.
I mean, we get some good action out of it,
but every single one, you know, croaks, I mean, I
just you know, for them to be as feared as
they were and as feared as we were, they were

(31:49):
built up to be. Yeah, I need to see them win.
They have to be able to win something. Show me
them taking out some Jedi. Show it'll be them capturing Jedi, yeah, don't.
It's one thing to form the show up in a
village where they think of Jedi's hiding and wave around

(32:10):
the red lightsabers and scare the snot out of everybody.
It's another thing to see them capture and be the Jedi.
That's right, And that's what we have not seen yet.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
Well. And the reason why you know, I wanted to
talk about this and react to it is because of
what you're saying. And I'm in complete agreement with you,
complete agreement. But then I realized back you know, you
were mentioning Dave Filoni, and back when he was talking
about rebels when Vader appears, right, we see Vader appear

(32:45):
not much but a little bit, and Filoni was talking
about how him and Lucas we're talking about being careful
with how much you show Vader. And then I realized
that these inquisitors are a plot device, right, They're there
to be more of a foe than a non force
wielder to battle a Jedi with a lightsaber. So this

(33:06):
one with Assage and this guy, I thought it was cool,
but then Bamy's gone. You know, the one in Tales
of the Jedi when ah Soka battles that guy and
there's all the flames back there and boom, he gets dropped.
I get that. You can't bring Vader to all that stuff. Yeah,
and so you need something and that's the role that

(33:27):
these Inquisitors have filled. And uh. But but there's not
a menace to them.

Speaker 3 (33:37):
You know, there's there's not no there there isn't And
I mean, it's just we need to see something.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
You know.

Speaker 3 (33:47):
I've read the comics because they did it, whole comics
series called Inquisitors, and we see them get the best
of people in that. But unless you've read the comics,
you haven't seen them beat anybody. No, yeah, no, Riva
and Akoono by definitely did not beat anybody, all right.
I mean she got to beat multiple times. I mean

(34:10):
it's you know, even even the Inquisitors and rebels, you know,
they had some they had some wins because the Jedi
retreated right, but ultimately Grand Inquisitor died, fifth brother sister,
all of them died at the hands of of Canaan

(34:37):
Ezra Mall. I mean everybody died.

Speaker 2 (34:41):
Yeah, and I just remember the guy's name in Ahsoka
where he goes there is moroc Yeah, you know poof
you know, and stuff like that. So I didn't read
the comic, but I mean, you know, you you and
I have seen everything else and but again I get
I just had to get my head around. Okay, filony

(35:01):
needs this as a plot device, kind of not a
big battie, but a battie lightsaber do a little bit
of battle. But they're not gonna kill Ahsoka. They're not
gonna kill Kanan, you know, stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
So yeah, yeah, absolutely absolutely.

Speaker 5 (35:19):
So movies, everything you see and hear was done on purpose.
Everything has meaning. Join Corey Heischmidt, Justin Eldon and me
Craig Dickinson for Reading between the Reels. Each episode will
break down the movies you love and analyze cinematography, sound performance,
and set design to uncover the significance of the filmmaker's choices.

(35:43):
Reading between the Reels available wherever you listen to podcasts.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
A lot of things still to go through to wrap
things up. We still got our final reactions to go through,
but we before we do that I did issue homework,
and I figured I would we could go ahead and
do the homework results and see how everybody graded their uh,

(36:10):
their tales of episodes. Now, apparently I did not communicate
well enough David. David went above and beyond the call
of duty on his homework. He ranked the individual episodes

(36:34):
of every arc eighteen, all eighteen episodes. I was meaning,
of the six arcs, which one do you like best?

Speaker 2 (36:47):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (36:48):
So you get an A plus plus plus on your homework, David.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
I opened up the notes that I saw that, and
I just started laughing. I love I'm like, this is
why I love David. He goes always above and beyond
on things. And so yeah, so.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
I will.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
I will turn it over to you and you could
share your homework, David.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
Sure you can. Yeah. No. I was looking at it
and I was like, man, this is hard. But I
went back through and I was looking at all of it.
So I'll go from I'll go from best to worst.
I like them, Okay, So number one is from I'll

(37:42):
let people know Tales of the Jedi Practice makes perfect
again with Ahsoka. The training and how that ties into
Clone Wars season seven now is incredible I'll just Tales
of the Jedi the Sith Lord of course, with Dooku Hm,
Tales of the Jedi Justice. Of course, we see a

(38:04):
young Qui Gon Tales of Jedi Life and Death with Ahsoka.
Of course, later on we see Victory in Death as
a title that Dave Felony uses. Tales of the Jedi
Resolve and Tales of the Jedi Choices. So that's you know,
I've said it. I've liked all of those from the beginning.

(38:26):
I felt that Tales of the Jedi is still the
best of you know, all three tales up. Let's see
number seven, Tales of the Underworld. We just were covering
it a way Forward, Tales in the Underworld Friends and
Tales in the Underworld one Warrior to another. Again, we
just covered that. The next one I have and number

(38:50):
ten is Tales of the Empire Devoted, Tales of the
Empire Realization, Tales the Empire, the Way Out. So I
do like the beariss Offie. I do like that, maxt
I have Tails the Empire, the Path of Fear, the

(39:12):
Path of Anger, and the Path of Hay. Of course,
that's the Morgan Elsabeth arc. And then Aaron and I
covered this two weeks ago and I'm still sticking with it.
Tales of the Underworld one good deed, a good turn
in the good Life, and that was the cat Ban
one and Aaron and I were very clear about that.
And so it is at the bottom, you know, of

(39:34):
the eighteen you know episodes total that we've seen. So
there you go.

Speaker 3 (39:42):
Very good, very good. So we did get some input
from a couple of our listeners on their lists as well.
First email we got was from our good friend and
my fellow dad Joke Adam jungk So and he this

(40:04):
is his rankings for the Tales of series. Number one
is the Ahsoka arc, number two the Douku Arc, three, Venturess, four,
Morgan Elsbeth, five Barriss Offie, and six Cad Baine.

Speaker 2 (40:23):
There you go, yes, so that's.

Speaker 3 (40:26):
A good list, good list. Our friend Das Davies, he
sent him his list and then he felt the need
to explain his list. I love dash, so here we go.
Here's his list from his least favorite to his most favorite.

(40:49):
Least favorite. Cad Baine. Oh that's number six, number five,
Massage Ventress, number four, Morgan Elsbeth, number three, Bears Alfie,
number two, Silkatano, and number one, which would be his favorite,

(41:11):
the Duku arc. Yeah, so he said, just some notes
that he put in, he goes. What stands out to
him the most about his list is that it runs
chronologically in the terms of how they were released. Tell
the Jedi take the top two spots, Tell the Empire
three and four, and of course Underworld firmly at the bottom.

(41:35):
I like what he says about Douku here when talking
about why he chose Duku as his favorite, he goes,
I have Douku top because I think those stories really
managed to add some valuable depth to his character. Over
the course of the three episodes, we got to see
his progression toward the dark side in a way that
makes sense and feels most sympathetic. We get to see

(41:58):
a glimpse into his relationship with Quiet, and we witnessed
the tragic demise of Yattle. There's a sense of significance
to these stories, and I feel I appreciate Dooku more
for having seen them.

Speaker 5 (42:13):
Yeah, I like that.

Speaker 2 (42:14):
I like that a lot.

Speaker 3 (42:16):
That's good. It's really good, really good, really good. Of course,
he uh goes on, and of course he talks about
why Cat why cad Bane is promptly at the bottom. Uh,
he says, for an ignomatic character like Baine, I don't
think we always need to know their origins, and sometimes

(42:38):
things are better left as a mystery for us to
guess at just pretty much what we said. If anything,
if anything, these episodes have slightly lowered my appreciation of
the character, and that's a real shame. And of course
he wraps it up by saying, overall, I do enjoy
the Tales of Tales of series, and I think it's
the right and I think in the right instance they

(43:00):
do work well to fill in some interesting gaps. But
for me, I'd rather the focus going forward beyond new
longer form series like The Clone, Wars, Rebels or bad Batch.

Speaker 4 (43:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (43:13):
By the way, he had a huge weekend at London
Film and Comic Con with Greg McLaughlin. I was so jealous.
Those guys were rocking it. And Daz he meets everybody,
by the way, I just saw his picture of Fay Marseie,
you know from and Or, And I'm always teasing dads
like like, how many people are gonna meet? And right,

(43:38):
he says, I think I'm gonna be done now, and
then the next thing I see are more pictures. I mean,
Daz is like a he's he's all over man, and
I love it. I love it, and I love that
he writes in and he is such a great support
to our show. And I just wanted to point that out.
But we love you, buddy, We we do.

Speaker 3 (43:59):
And we appreciate everybody, both of y'all for right again, Adam,
and that I appreciate y'all taking the time to share
your results of your list there. So I guess I
should go ahead and share mine. Huh yeah, So here
we go if you're ready for me. Top spot.

Speaker 2 (44:25):
Is the duku Ark.

Speaker 3 (44:27):
I loved the duku Ark for a lot of the
same reasons Dad's described. Second is the Yahsoka arc. Absolutely fantastic.
Third is the Ventress Arc for me Ventress arc. After Venturess,
I would actually go with the Morganellesbeth and four. I

(44:48):
would put Cad Bayne at five, Embarrassed Affie at six.
To me, that one was just the absolute worst waste
of that's that's forty five minutes I'll never get back.
Watching Bears once was enough and I had to watch

(45:10):
it three times so we could review it and I yeah,
so all right, all right to me, the off the
arc rinks right up there with the with the Hut
Casino episode of Resistance.

Speaker 2 (45:29):
Oh oh, that was that was.

Speaker 3 (45:34):
David understands that reference because we reviewed that show together.

Speaker 2 (45:40):
I'm telling you we deserve a special place in the
coffee with Kenobi Hall of Fame for covering that series
and some of those episodes. So dan Z better love us.

Speaker 3 (45:54):
That it was fun though it was a good. Yeah,
it's an underrated series. There are a couple that could
have but overall it was an underrated series. It really
was so all right, So well that our homeworks out
of the way, David, let's go ahead and jump in
and do our final reactions and wrap this episode up.
So I will go ahead and kick it off since

(46:15):
you started off with opening reactions or initial reactions, I
should say final reactions. For me, this was just an
excellent arc. I mean, this was an arc that I
didn't you know, a lot of these tales of stories
are stories that I didn't know I wanted, except for

(46:37):
you know, the cad Dane and the Parisofie. I could
have done without those. But this, especially this arc right here,
this asage Ventriss arc was an arc that I didn't
know I wanted, and now that I got it, I
love it the way the way the story just merges
the Star Wars saga that we've seen spread out here

(46:59):
and it and the stories told that we're had some
disjointed stories that this smooths it out. This builds the
bridge and makes makes the path smooth again. And I
love the fact that it filled in how and why

(47:19):
we get from Dark Disciple to Bad Patch. To me,
that's the biggest kicker of this arc. I love the
new story, the new character we got with Strata, awesome character.
I wish we could see more of this kid and
as he journeys through the path. I think that would
be a nice arc to see. But overall fantastic it Honestly,

(47:47):
it makes me wonder. This arc made me want to
go back and read Dark Disciple if I still had it,
So I'm going to have to get my hands on
Dark Disciple. I will probably end up going and snag
an audible copy here this week because I just I
just finished the final High Republic book of the Jedi,

(48:11):
So I just finished that, so I need something new
to read now. So Dark disciple would be something good
to go back to. But yeah, fantastic job. They did,
a great told a great story. Nika Futterman just she
blew it away. She killed it with her performance. The

(48:32):
animation was spectacular. Given award to Matt Metsnowitz for his writing.
He wrote a fantastic story, fantastic script, so perfect. I
loved it. It was good on all fronts for me.
How about you, my friend, where are your final thoughts?

Speaker 2 (48:49):
Yeah? Very similar, buddy. Like I said in my initial reactions,
I'm a fan of a size venturess, always have been.
And of course the voice actor you just mentioned, Nika Futterman.
I'm hoping, you know, we can get an auto or
a photo or both with her at Okalla Comic Con
coming up in September. I tell you I was, I
would listen, and I said it. I was sucked in

(49:09):
at the start of this arc because I immediately knew
what I was seeing with Quinlan Voss and Obi Wan,
you know, bringing her to rest in that pool on
dathamre right in the night Sister's Realm. I tell you,
I said, you know, I found myself wanting to see
these episodes, all the episodes that primarily made up the

(49:29):
Christy Golden Book Dark Disciple, and you know, I don't know.
It'd be interesting to see if Filonia ever did that.
I don't think so, because they've really kind of they're
moving on to I think, you know, the Darth Maul
stuff and things like that, So but it would be
wonderful to see it. I do like seeing Assage as
a mentor to to like Ostrada, I really ended up

(49:53):
liking that. I liked their banter. I've mentioned that, and
and I think you hinted at it. There could be
some good stories ahead with those two. I think you
could have some fun. Filoni can have some real fun
with that, and so if that happens, I'll take it.
So overall, very enjoyable.

Speaker 3 (50:13):
Oh yeah, absolutely, very good. Well said, well said, And
of course it's not too late. We'd love to hear
from you and hear your thoughts on the Tales of
the Underworld arcs, whether it's the Kad Baine or the
Assage or both. If you want to still submit your
list of how you would rank the Tales of serieses,

(50:35):
you can do that as well. If you want to
go over and above, like my buddy David here feel free.
I love you, buddy. You could do that many many
different ways. Of course, you can always leave us a

(52:28):

Speaker 2 (52:30):
Oh man, I can't wait. Man, gets you up here.
It's the number of people that are coming, it's pretty wild.
It's gonna be a Rebels reunion. The only one we're
missing is Freddie Prince Jr.

Speaker 3 (52:44):
Yep, that's it. That's it. So I don't he's he's
got a he's got a movie out right now, so
I can guarantee he ain't coming. He's got that uh
that new I did last.

Speaker 2 (52:58):
Summer, Yeah, coming out.

Speaker 4 (53:00):
Yes, So.

Speaker 3 (53:02):
I haven't seen the Originals, so I can't.

Speaker 2 (53:05):
I haven't either. He was much younger than when he was.

Speaker 3 (53:11):
But yeah, all right, so but yeah, we're looking forward
to that. That'll be September twentieth and twenty first at
at the World Equestrian Center there at Okala David's backyard,
So we will be I cannot wait. We'll be hanging
out there Saturday and Sunday. We're going to be running

(53:32):
around having a good old time, hitting panels, trying to
meet as many people as we can. Probably will be
probably stash away in a corner somewhere doing some recording
while we're there. Right, So, if you are in the
area and you do end up spending some time at Okalakoma,
con shoot us a message, look us up. We will

(53:56):
love to meet you and hang out and talk star
wars and hit some panels together and they just have
a good old time.

Speaker 2 (54:04):
It's right. Can't wait, buddy, Neither.

Speaker 3 (54:07):
Can I, my friend, neither can I. It is onlike
Donkey Kong. So well, I think we have made it
to the end, my friend.

Speaker 2 (54:18):
Well the end, the end or in the end, and
do what you like now the end is near.

Speaker 3 (54:26):
Oh my gosh, it is time for our favorite parts.
You are I am?

Speaker 2 (54:35):
You are I am man if don't you love it?

Speaker 3 (54:39):
You could actually see me actually acting this way.

Speaker 2 (54:41):
Oh my gosh, you just light up like a Christmas street.
You love these jokes? Oh my gosh, So yeah, I do.
I do.

Speaker 3 (54:52):
They make they The more the grown, the better the
better it is for me. So as so here we go.
Are you ready?

Speaker 2 (55:03):
I'm ready?

Speaker 3 (55:05):
This one's bad. I may have to pull another one
out and do it, but we'll go with it and
see where it ranks on the grown scale before I
reach over and grab a book and find another.

Speaker 2 (55:19):
So figured, you know.

Speaker 3 (55:21):
Since uh, and it is time for the Star Wars
Dad joke of the week. If you couldn't tell, I
figured this week, since we are discussing a sage ventress,
I would dig and dig and dig and see if
I could find a sage venturess dad joke. And uh,

(55:43):
this one's pretty rough, but it's a joke. So here
we go. You're ready, my friend. This week's Star Wars
Dad joke of the Week is as follows. Why did
a sage venturess break up with Count Dooku?

Speaker 2 (55:59):
Why did as Sage Ventures break up with Count Dooku?

Speaker 3 (56:04):
She got tired of being counting on She got tired
of him counting on everything. Oh, it's always counting on
her for everything. She told you that it was rough.

Speaker 2 (56:19):
That is rough, but it involved.

Speaker 3 (56:25):
Let's see if Chris, let's let's see if Kelly Knox
can save me real quick? Uh, redeem me?

Speaker 2 (56:31):
I see my I have my copyright over there.

Speaker 3 (56:34):
Jokes they went when when my jokes when my jokes tank,
I I I fall back to Kelly. So I heard
the caf at Decks Diner tastes a little like dirt.
They say it's fresh grounds.

Speaker 2 (56:51):
Oh oh.

Speaker 3 (56:58):
Fresh.

Speaker 1 (57:01):
You know.

Speaker 2 (57:02):
She was a I'll say that she was a really
good interview. That was a fun one.

Speaker 3 (57:09):
That was definitely a fun one. Oh man, that was great.
That was great.

Speaker 2 (57:14):
That was that.

Speaker 3 (57:14):
That was better. So oh, David buddy, this has been
a blast.

Speaker 2 (57:21):
Yeah man, it's good to good to get another one
in the can.

Speaker 3 (57:26):
Absolutely absolutely, so again, thank you everybody for h for
