Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is Colby from the Colby Cast, and you're
listening to Star Wars Reactions.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Elegant discussion for a more civilized age, any of you.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
In nineteen seventy seven, George Lucas formed a legacy that
I am inspired by mythology. His saga has become a
passion for many. His legend has become our story, one
of resistance, rebellion and redemption. Ije, father, this is Star
(00:43):
Wars Reactions.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Remember you always.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Well, everybody, Oh carabass right off the bat. Geez, that's
gotta be a record, at least tying a record. There
are bass. Everybody unwelcome to Star Wars Reactions. I love it.
Any who If you can't tell, this is Aaron Harris.
(01:10):
I'm one of your hosts here. Let me redeem myself
and bring David Martys in before I choke anymore. What's
a brother?
Speaker 2 (01:19):
I know, I was just thinking one thousand and one.
You couldn't even do one thousand and one. And there's
a Cara Bas that's like half a side. So I
think you might have got a new record for for
a quick the quickest Carabas in Star Wars Reactions history.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
I claim exhaustion.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Yes, rightfully.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Welcome to Star Wars reactions, everybody. We're so glad you're
joining us this week. If that beginning is any indication
it's gonna be a crazy episode. Yeah, we got a
great show planned out for you this u this week.
(02:00):
It's going to be fun. And this actually spurred out
of our last episode, David, when we were talking and
we were talking about the assage venturous arc of Tales
of the Underworld and we kept referring back to Dark
Disciple and Dark Disciple, And during the episode we mentioned
we should do an episode about our top Disney era novels,
(02:23):
what we think are must reads, and yeah, we're doing
it right, We're gonna run with it. So that's what
we're doing this week. We're going to discuss what we
feel are our top five books. David's got his top five,
I got my top five, we got some honorable mentions
(02:43):
thrown in there, and we're just gonna sit back and
enjoy the literary world of Star Wars aka the Disney
Area era, as Taylor Swift will put it, the Disney era. AnyWho. Gosh,
I am tired for the record, y'all. David can see
(03:06):
it because we're on video together, and I am sitting
amidst a pile of boxes that are half moved, because
in forty eight hours, less than forty eight hours, thirty
six hours, there's going to be a whole bunch of
guys right where I'm sitting, laying floor. So I have
to literally empty out my office aka reaction studio of
(03:31):
everything that's sitting in boxes, which is literally the whole
office and half the house out to my porch in
this wonderful Florida heat warning record heat and try to
have it ready while still working my nine to five.
(03:55):
So it's been it's been a busy day. So yeah,
I love you, but so I'm tired, which is why
you're getting so many carabass moments right off the bat.
But hopefully we can focus and get it done. So,
like we said, we're going to talk about the top
(04:17):
Star Wars books since twenty fifteen, which of course was
the Disney takeover era where they started launching their books
and basically turned everything into that we had before into
legends and going forward into what is the new Disney cannon.
(04:41):
And you may be saying, well, Aaron David, why aren't
you doing doing it about the Expanded Universe or AKA Legends,
because we haven't read it. A lot of that came
out when we a lot I know, David, you talked
about it, we've talked about before. A lot of it
came out when you were in in college and working
(05:01):
on your doctorate, and me while I was overseas. I
can literally count on two hands the number of Expanded
Universe books I've read, and that's not even scratching the
service of what's out there. So it wouldn't be fair
for us to do that kind of list, because I
(05:22):
could tell you off the top of my head it'd
be the Throng Trilogy, the Jedi Academy Trilogy, Courtship of
Princess Leiah, and that's about it. That's that's literally all
I've read. So it's not really that fair of a list.
(05:43):
But with the since twenty fifteen, when both of us
have been podcasting, we were in the height of we
were in the height of Rebels as it was being launched.
You know, there was a lot going on. So we've
been involved, have involved in these books. We've read them,
we've gone through them. I think there's probably only less
(06:05):
I probably count on one hand, which ones I haven't
read yet. And it's not because I haven't wanted to.
It's because I haven't had the time, because there's so
much that's come out. But we've got a lot to
go through, and I want to go through and and
touch on these because if you, if you like reading,
and you haven't read any of these new books, you're
missing out. There's a lot of great stories out there.
(06:27):
There's a lot of great characters out there in these
books that deserve the love. And we've got some fantastic
authors out here who have made some fantastic books and
expanded to Star Wars Saga in very unique and exciting ways.
So with that said, David, you ready to start breaking
(06:49):
down our our top five lists.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
I'm not only ready to start breaking it down, I'm
ready to react. And that is for Breg McLoughlin. I
cannot do it podcasts with you without saying it or
it's not good, it doesn't.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Count, not good, not good at all. We got it.
So so let's go see my nice little water cup,
very nice, got the Soka Trooper helmet on it, so nice.
It's James Oller, Urt Otle Taylor say I cut my water.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
So, but all right, let's go let's uh, how do
you want to do this. You want to start with
five and count up to one or do you just
want to start with one and work our way down
the list.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
I'd say five and work our way up to number one.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
All right, let's do it, okay, David?
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Yeah, Well, I actually I thought about this. I actually
kind of sort of cheated on number five. I put
the most recent throw on trilogy, not Air to the Empire,
and you know that the original one he did in
ninety two, it's the current one. I really liked what
he did there. I really liked alliances. You know that
(08:06):
second one that really shows a flashback to Anakin meeting
Throng during the Clone Wars. I just really liked how
he did that on bat two right and brought in
you know, that whole area. So I just I just
really enjoyed that, and and of course meeting Tims on back.
(08:27):
You know when you and I were there at Central Florida, Come,
I kind of I already told the story. I walked
in before the first day of the con and I
was kind of just looking at the lay of the land,
walked around and there's Tim's on and his wife setting
up their booth and and I just said hi to them,
and and he's like, I'll sign those for you. I
started handed them all three boom boom boom, signed all three. Uh.
(08:51):
And that was before the day even started. So so
those are my that's my number five. I know I'm
putting three in there, but I really liked that trilogy.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Well, I'm glad you did that because that means I
can modify my list and actually include some other novels,
which works for me. It was really hard for me
because you've got great trilogies like the Throng Trilogy, the
Throng Ascendency Trill Trilogy, Alphabet Squadron Trilogy. Those are you know,
(09:23):
there's some fantastic trilogies out there, so I get to
condense those down. Thank you. I appreciate you're welcome. But
my number five is actually Master and Apprentice is a
fantastic story about Qui gon Jin and Obi Wan Kenobi.
(09:44):
That's a bad one fantastic story, it really. I love
how it captured the the relationship between Obi Wan and
Qui gon I love and we never really got enough
Qui gon Jen to begin with we we got episode one.
(10:04):
We've had a few flashes here and there, but we
never really have gotten some good Qui gon Jen story.
And this was a good Qui gon Jin story. It
was a it was a great teaching. You got to
se him as a as a teacher, as a mentor, uh,
and you got to see Obi Wan you know, learning
like Anakin did. And it's just to me, it was
(10:27):
just a fantastic uh side of side of the story
we had not seen yet, And it's the side of
the story. I hope we see more of it. I
would I really want more Qui gon Jen story.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Yeah, your Claudia Grey's name is gonna come up quite
a bit in my top five. Let's just say that.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Oh absolutely, you know, she's just awesome. She she has
been quintessential in the in the new era of Star
Wars literature. She has said she has really hit it
out of the park on a lot of her.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Books, So no question, no question.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
So of course that was number five. So the Throng
Trilogy for David, and of course The Master and Apprentice
for myself. So let's jump into our next one, number four.
I will go for this one and actually David, but
I think we both can go ahead. And I'm looking
at your list too, because it's in our shot notes.
(11:28):
We actually got the same one for number four, which
is quite awesome, and that would be Bloodlines. That was
I'll be honest. When that book was first released, I
set it aside. I did not immediately read it. I
(11:51):
just wasn't. It didn't feel like it was going to
be something I wanted that would have appealed to me.
Then when I finally broke down and read it, M
blew me away.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah. You know, we said Claudia
Gray's name is going to come up, and you know,
reading that, I just the way that she portrayed Leah
and the grace and class and dignity of dealing with
the reveal of Vader being her father. I loved how
(12:27):
Claudia Gray did that. I loved it. I mean, and
you know, I guess, you know, after a Return of
the Jedi, you sit there and I don't know that
I ever really thought a ton about you know, oh
what happens in the Galaxy, you know, to Luke when
someone finds out Vader was his father, or to lay
(12:49):
up and again, the way that she did it and
the action adventure through Bloodlines. I'm with you, buddy, I
was blown away.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
I was so impressed, absolutely, And it tells a fantastic
story too, of how she went from uh, somebody who
was leading the rebellion and obviously was going to be
a key player in the New Republic to being on
the outskirts running the resistance.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
And it tells that perfect It tells a perfect story
of how she got from point A to point B.
And it was it was done so well, so gracefully,
and so incredibly descriptive. I mean the characters in this book.
I mean we had mon Mathma in the in the store,
(13:42):
involved in the story. We had Leah. Of course it's
new characters as well that just filtered in and helped
flesh out the story so wonderfully. So agree, so so yeah,
so that was definitely definitely awesome for we came down
on the same side on this one. Both came in
(14:04):
at number four Bloodlines for both of us. Fantastic story.
All right, let's go to number three and again our
path our path separate, and we go our separate ways
like Han and Lea and Luke and Empire strikes back
(14:25):
after they go their own ways, and yeah, let's let's
let's hit it off. Number three for me, since you
have graciously brought in to play the trilogy game is
Alphabet Squadron. The Alphabet Squadron. That was absolutely fantastic. That
(14:53):
was That was a series of books. And it kills
me because it's I lost. I had all three of
them on heart cover and I lost and there there
there they're they're ones I lost in the when the
storm came through, so I eventually need to try to
get those replaced. But Alphabet Squadron was it was picture
(15:14):
the the if you if you like the Legends Expanded Universe,
whatever you want to call it. If you love the
X Wing books, the Rogue Squadron X Wing books, you'll
love Alphabet Squadron. This is follows a a ragtag squadron
of New Republic fighters under the command of General Harrison Doula.
(15:40):
Go figure, I'd like that one. But it was the characters,
the development, the fact that it was a literally, you know,
every every squadron we've seen through Star Wars, through the movies,
through the shows, through all the other books to date
have always been you know, it's a squadron of Xu's
the squadron of Y stradron being this is a literally
(16:01):
a rag tag squadron. It's an X wing, it's a
Y wing, it's a a B wing, a Y wing.
I mean, it's literally the alphabet so and the pilots
all brought together from all all forms of levels of life,
and then of course you have one of them that's
(16:24):
an X type pilot that has been gone through quote
unquote rehabilitation, and it just adds that conflict in there
as they're fighting the Imperial Remnant. Absolutely incredible story that
it's one of the few books that has literally kept
me on the edge of my seat every time, every page.
(16:49):
I could not put it down. And when I finished
one book, I was like dying waiting for the second second,
then the third one to come out, and then when
the third one ended, I was like, come on, give
me more.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Yeah, I'll say this, I don't have it in my
top five, but it's only because of these other ones.
I have it in an honorable mention.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
But I you and I covered that, I believe on
an episode did we do one or two on that
on Alphabet Squader, Because like I, I have the books
I see him right over there, and I put so
many notes in alphabets it's ridiculous. I mean I I
took copious notes throughout that trophy. Absolutely enjoyed it.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Actually, yeah, we did two three.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Squandering because you almost need Yeah, because they're I'll tell
you if you're gonna read those, they're dense. Uh huh,
They're for real.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
There's a lot packed into those. I have to go
go back and see if I can find how much
what episodesows were. But those were, I mean we had
a lot of fun. Yeah, those episodes because and that
was early on and that was early in reactions lore.
(18:09):
Yeah we did that, but yeah, they were, they were fantastic. Actually,
we only did one episode on it.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Dude, Wow, we must have really give us have.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
Been a really long episode. That's episode wow wow forty one. Wow.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Yeah, that's a while ago.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
Oh yeah, that was ironically that was right before the
second season of Bad Batch.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Ah show as.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Anyhow, Yeah, episode forty one. If you want to go
back and listen to us talk about Alphabet Squadron, it
is there available in our feed wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
So nice.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
That was my number three. David, how about you my.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Friend, Well, Claudia Gurray cleumbs up again for me, not
just Bloodlines, but Lost Stars. And you know, I think
this was twenty fifteen. I think let me look, I
grabbed the book here. I was gonna this was part
of the journey to the Force Awakens. I don't if
(19:22):
people remember that they did that. Yep, twenty fifteen copyright. Yep.
It's about Thane Kyrell and Siana Ree and it was
just outstanding. I I love on the back cover, now
on opposite sides of the war, will these friends turn
foes ever find a way to be together? Or will
(19:44):
duty tear them and the galaxy apart? And you know
on the cover, it's got this start starer coming down, right,
And little do we know that that's the one that
we see at the beginning to Force Awakens, when Ray
gets on her speeder bike and takes off. It's this,
(20:08):
it's this starter storyer coming down. So but anyways, I
really enjoyed it in what she did in the book.
And so anyways, Lost Stars is number three for me.
I mean it could have been higher for me, just
from the standpoint that I was really asking myself, what
would I read again? And and it's you know, it's
(20:29):
definitely these these top five and so anyways an outstanding
book and story. And again Claudia Gray, she can she
can do Leash, she can do two brand new characters here,
she can do Rebels, she can do Empires sheet. Oh
my gosh, man, she can do it. So that's my
(20:51):
number three highly recommend it.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
I like that. I like that. Uh. Lost Stars is
actually one of my honorable mentions in and of itself,
uh because it was just simply it's just a fantastic
book as well. And you know it's you have so
many great books. It's you just I mean, it's just
so hard to make a series like this where you
(21:17):
can just have to narrow it down. You know, I'll
have jip by by by time it's all said, none,
I'd have just as many honorable mentions as I do. Uh,
top five, if not more. But yeah, Lost Star is
fantastic book. Definitely I must read for for everybody as well.
I could. Claudia Grade just has has been a superstar
(21:43):
absolutely in the Disney area era area era Cara mass
more more Cara mass So. Uh So that was our
top three so far or first three five for number
five for David Thrond Trilogy, number five for me, Master
(22:05):
and Apprentice number four for both of us. Breadlines number
three for David Lost Stars and for me Alphabet Squadron Trilogy,
which brings us into our top two for each of us.
So let's jump into that. David, I'll let you go
first this time. What is your number two pick?
Speaker 2 (22:26):
For you? Yeah, I put a number one. I put
a number two. This is another one you and I
covered back in the day, and this actually started the
Disney era of books. And it's appropriately titled A New
Dog by John Jackson owner I you know, so good,
(22:46):
and of course it just really introduces us to Hara
and Canaan, and you know, I mean it's a decade old.
No I'm a spoiler alert the reveal of the ghost, right, yes,
so a great story, A really good battie with the
(23:06):
initials d V, right, Darth Vader, not Darth Vader but something.
I can't remember the bad guy's name now, but yeah,
it's I just remembered. I'm like, oh my gosh, John
jacksonvill make sure the bad guy has the initials d V.
But as you're looking for that. Just absolutely love reading this.
(23:31):
I have no issues with going back and reading it again.
I remember doing that reading it and then Aaron and
I said hey, let's cover this thing, and absolutely read
it again. And you know, John Jackson Miller is so good.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
What's his name, Count Dentrius Videan.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Yes, see dv So anyway, it's so fun, great story, right,
lots of action with that Harrod Canaan, and a real
kickoff before Rebels.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
It truly is, it, truly is a fantastic book. John
Jackson Miller really hit it out of the park with
the launch of what became the Disney era of books
with a New Dawn, because not only did it launch
this new era of books, it launched Rebels. It was
the prequel to Star Wars Rebels. And as awesome as
(24:30):
this book is, I have to admit it did not
make my top five. It's it's in my it's one
of my honorable mentions because it is the book. I
know you you think, of all people, this would be
my number one pick. But it's not. Dude. These are tough.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
I mean, this list is very difficult.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
It's brutal. It is so brutal to narrow this down,
but a new down. It's just such a fantastic storytelling
about how Canaan meets Era and how how they join
forces and end up uh on the road to uh
great things. That's right, and exploding gas cans. Oh boy,
(25:18):
Oh I should have gone there.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Oh no, I don't need to tear up here. Don't
do that.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
No, I don't know if you can see it in
the video, David, I'm being harassed by a bee.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
Is there being there?
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Yeah, I've had the back door to the office open.
I've been carrying boxes in and out all afternoon and
a bee apparently has gotten in and now it's swarming
around me and I.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Oh, I wondered why your hand was moving off.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
You keep seeing me trying to and it's a bee.
I don't know why I'm trying to snag it with
my arm. It's going to sting me.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
Oh, you're trying to push Chopper away Somewhere.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
Chopper is sitting up next to the door. He will
not be moving out of the office. Uh, not gonna happen.
He's too he will he will sit because there is
a step up before you go out. He's going to
sit up on the step. That area is not getting floored,
so he will be out of the way. For the
(26:12):
chopper is safe and sound. He just needs a little
bit of a dusting because of all the work being
done in the house. Uh So, so that was your
number two A new dawn for me. Number two is
Dark Disciple. Oh yeah, now, Dark Disciple that you heard
us talk a lot about that in our last episode
(26:33):
when we were talking about the Assage of Ventest arc.
Dark Disciple. It was that unfinished Clone Wars arc, the
unproduced Clone Wars arc that told the story of Quinnland
Vass and Assage of entsts working together on a mission.
And the it's basically it is literally a forbidden love
(26:55):
story is literally what this is. And it is just
so masterfully told. It's such beautifully written, and all I
can do is just sit back and say, man, I
really wish they had made this into the arc, the
actual Clone Wars arc. But then I sit there and
(27:17):
I think about it, and I'm like, but if they
would have done that, how much would have been lost
in production compared to what we got in the book.
Because the book is so good, It's so there's so
much detail, so much story, and it's so fleshed out
and you can only flesh out characters and storylines so much.
(27:41):
When you're doing twenty three twenty four minute episodes of
an arc, and you do two or three episodes per arc,
you're going to lose something in translation. When you have
a book, which I think the audio novels what fourteen hours,
fifteen hours, So obviously there's a lot more detail in
that book than there is in that there would have
(28:03):
been in those episodes. So to me, Dark Disciple was just,
oh man, it is it very easily could take the
top spot on the list, which is difficult for me. Uh,
it very easily could have taken the top spot, but
for me it didn't, but it was still it is
so close. I could have flipped these my one into
(28:25):
depending on what day of the week, I could flip
it any day of the week. So yeah, So how
about you, buddy, what's your number two? Actually you just
did number two? Never mind, Yeah, that was my number two.
Perhaps for number twos, bashed racking them up, buddy. We're
(28:45):
going for a record today. I don't know what the
record is, but we're going for a record. Oh Lord Lord,
help back the bes back anyhow, Sorry about that. So
we have reached the end of our list. We got
(29:08):
our number one picks before us. These are the ones
that we wrestled with, like we have with the whole
list of what we consider the absolute must reads for
Star Wars. There, and there's so many, so many honorable mentions,
and I figured we might go through some of those
(29:30):
honorable mentions before we do our number one s David, Okay,
some of them we talked about already. Yeah, as we
went through. You know, for me, A New Dawn and
Lost Stars were part of my honorable mentions and Alphabet
Squadron was a part of yours. What else do you
have on your honorable mention list?
Speaker 2 (29:50):
Yeah, you know, I was looking through my bookshelfs here
and just going back through my mind's eye every thing
that I've read since twenty fifteen, and something was that
I was like, oh, wait a minute, And it's Blackspire
Outpost by Delilah S Dawson. She does such a nice
(30:12):
job of introducing us to buy Muratti Blackspire Outposts, you know,
and really lay us sending her out and it's so good.
And then you know the history of you and I
going there in August of twenty nineteen and seeing that
(30:36):
place and I love being there and going there. And
so you know, I've seen Delilah Dawson talk about how
to write the books. She just had some information, some sketches,
some background. But after reading what she wrote, and you know,
you and I visiting there a number of times, I
(30:56):
thought it was outstanding and a fun book and it
just brings me. It just makes me smile, you know.
So so I thought that's a that's an audible mention
for me.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
It's just a.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
Nice, nice entry.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
It is, you know. And honestly, remember I said there,
I can count on a I count on one hand
how many I haven't read. That's one of them. So
uh yeah, I need to get my hands on Black
Spire outpost. Uh. I have not read that one yet,
but I've heard good things about it. So yeah, I
have to add that since the the High Republic has
(31:33):
ended and we don't we have the don't have nothing
coming out. They just released an alcoholite book this week,
but apparently the audio books not coming out till a
week of multitude from now. It's crazy. They usually read
them the same day, So I may have to wait
on that one. But I may have to go back
(31:53):
and hit that one. On Audible while I'm waiting on
the on that one to come out. You know, I
got a long list of Honorwall mentions and they are
just fantastic stories. Like I mentioned New Dawn, Lost Stars,
Light of the Jedi, which was the kickoff of The
(32:14):
High Republic. That was actually a tremendous phenomenal book, great
start to the High Republic series, and to me, it
really got it off on a great foot and got
it off to a sprint that that just ended this year.
So fantastic, fantastic story. The last two on my well,
(32:41):
I got a cut three more on my list, but
two of the last three are actually by the same guy,
and he's been on our show a number of times
talking about the bad Batch and of course I'm talking
about Jason Frye. Love Jason, fantastic eye, nice guy, even
though he's a Mets fan, he's a great guy. But
(33:06):
his novelization of The Last.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
Jedi was.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
The Chef's Kiss. I mean it was the I mean
it was perfect. Whether you like the movie or not,
it has nothing to do with how good of a
book he wrote about that movie. That was. I honestly,
I enjoyed the book more than I did the movie
That Says Something, and his novelization it was just perfect
(33:37):
in so many ways and it added a a It
added to the story so much that it just it
was just it just it was incredible. The other one
on my list, that of course by Jason Frye, was
the Servants of the Empire series. Now, these are kids,
(33:59):
these are kids books, These were written for kids, but
it it was told story directly from rebels and continue
the story about characters who were introduced in rebels and
really not seen again up to that point. So fantastic,
(34:20):
fantastic series of books. And the last one on my
honorable mention lists is a trilogy. And I didn't type
it in specifically, David, because I wanted to spread surprise
you with it. And it's one that that expanded the
saga in such the and not just the saga, expanded
(34:44):
the original trilogy in such a way that you laughed,
you cried, you got frustrated, you got angry, you got sad,
You went through the whole range of emotions through these
three books. And it these certain point of view books, and.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
Just as you were saying, I'm looking at mine, right.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
The certain point of view books were incredible. If you
have not read those, they are a series or even
heard of them. They are a series of short stories.
There's a certain point of view, a new hope, certain
point of view, Empire strikes Back, certain point of view,
Return of the Jedi, And they just got a forty
authors and they did forty short stories about what happens
(35:25):
in the movie from side characters in the movie that
you don't you see in the background or something and
never see again. Empire. There's even one about the ice
cream guy and an Empire strikes Back. I mean, come on, yeah,
these are perfect stories. And the one thing I'm still
(35:47):
clinging to hope that they will do is they will
do it for the prequel trilogy as well. I would
love to see a certain point of view, Phantom Menace,
Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Set, those I
would love those. What's going through the mind of the
Droid as he comes in bringing drinks to Qui Gon
and Obi Wan I mean, Or what's going through the
(36:13):
mind of the fish is chasing the submarine the core
I mean the store. These are the type of random
stories you get in from a certain point of view.
That's right, and that's what made them so appealing and
so much fun and definitely part of my honorable mention
list for sure.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Well, I'm with you on that. I I don't have
everything typed into our notes, but from a certain point
of view, is definitely on my honorable mention. I know
something happened where you weren't able to jump on, but
I interviewed Jason Prye. Going back to Jason pry because
he's one of the only authors. Is there one or two?
What do you tell us? I could look at the cover,
(36:54):
but he wrote a short story in all three, each
of them, right, and interviewed him about that, and again,
he's just such a great guy for being on all
of our Bad Batch premieres and finalees and then doing
that one as well. But that's on my honorable mention.
You mentioned Light of the Jedi. I also have it
(37:14):
on my honorable mention list. It is a great start.
I mean, they put out a lot of stuff, but
I do kind of think they had the best first, honestly,
because you and I've read all the adult novels. I've
read everything in the higher public, the middle grade, and
the young readers, you know, just to kind of I
(37:35):
jumped in whole Hawk, So that's fine. Alphabet Squadron. You know,
we were talking about that. That could have easily been
up in my top five. That's in my honorable mention.
And you know, I was looking over at tark and
Catalysts and how those have really kind of they're there
as well, you know, particularly because of and Or and
(37:55):
so it's weird how certain shows can accentuate certain things.
But but yeah, there's there's a lot of good stuff there,
really is. You know, I was thinking about there's a
number of other times, you know, battle Front that was
another one on the Christy Golden that I really enjoyed,
(38:18):
and you know that's I would put that on my
honorable mention as well. So so those are just a few.
You can't go wrong with any of those. They've been
pretty good, right.
Speaker 1 (38:28):
Buddy, Yeah, they have it. Yeah, the first battle Book
was perfect, the second one, Inferno Squadron, that thing was
that thing was lit that I loved. Inferno Squadron. Yeah,
definitely a fantastic book too. So there there's a lot
out there you can get your hands on that you
(38:48):
will enjoy if you if you go out there and
do it. So so yeah, that just takes us through
some of our honorable mentions. So I think we go
ahead and jump into our number one picks. What do
you think? Let's all right, Well, let's do it. Uh
number one pick for me off my list has to
(39:13):
do with my favorite baddie in Star Wars. No, not
Darth Vader, not Palpatine. Uh no, none of them, None
of them, but none other, not our favorite red Eye Blueskins,
Baddie himself, a Grand Admiral Thron and the Throng trilogy,
(39:35):
the original or not the original one from the expand viewers,
but the first because he did two thrown trilogies in
the Disney era. He did what they call the Thron Trilogy.
Then they would have what they call the Thron Acendency Trilogy,
which are both incredible stories. But the original Thron trilogy,
(40:01):
which is Thron, Thron Alliances and Thron Treason, Yes, fantastic books.
They tell the story of how Thron came into the
Empire and rose through the ranks to become the Grand Admiral.
They stories themselves actually at one point interweave in with
(40:24):
Rebels what's going on in Rebels, which is incredible. It
tells the story of him and Price, Governor Price, how
they met and how why. It tells the battery of
why he showed up in rebels, beckoning, answering her call
when she called for help. I mean, the it filled
(40:46):
gaps into rebels really well. But it told the story
of a man who just showed up on the empire's
doorstep and became one of the most powerful men in
the empire. And it's told with such finesse, such details,
(41:06):
such such excitement and political intrigue and action, and it's
so well thought out that nobody but Timothy's On could
have written this. I mean, you could tell this is
the genius behind Thrown. This is the man that created him,
originally brought him to life, breathed them into existence with
(41:30):
the original Air to the Empire, Dark Forces Rising, and
Last Battle trilogy from the nineties. Definitely, definitely for me
is the ultimate must read for the Disney area area caravas.
(41:52):
There's another one.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
One of our listeners will keep track of this and
then check other episodes to see how you've had another episode.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
I'm going to get, you know, we're going to release this,
you know, Friday morning. By Friday afternoon, I have a
message from Daz kept telling me how many care bass
moments I had. Love you brother, oh Loma, Oh Lord
help me AnyWho. But yeah, through On Trilogy is my
(42:21):
must read this week. Next week it'll be that Dark
Disciple again. Week after that'll be Thrown Trilogy again. You
know it's going to be all over the place, you know.
And how about you, buddy, what is your number one pick?
Speaker 2 (42:34):
Yeah, like you said, the Thrown Trilogy, you can't go
wrong with it. My number one pick is going to
pick off piggyback off of your number two, Dark Disciple.
That's my number one. It's what got us talking about this.
In fact, what I did is I grabbed the book here.
I'm like, wait a minute, I want to look at
the titles, like how many episodes? Because you talked about it,
(42:57):
how you wish that these had been made? And we
we've said it, I've said it multiple times. I wish so.
But again, when you look at the book and what
Christy Golden added, it's tough to beat this. So so
here's the episodes, Lethal Alliance, The Mission, Conspirators, Dark Disciple,
(43:19):
Saving Voss Parts one and two, Trader and get this.
I'm like, oh my gosh, I gotta tell you. And
the Path, so again.
Speaker 1 (43:30):
That was I didn't realize that was it would have
been an eight episode arc.
Speaker 2 (43:34):
Yes, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or
you know four and four, maybe they do four and
then another four. But written by Katie Lucas, Matt mcnavitz.
Of course we see him a lot of this stuff, right,
and Dave Filoni. Now the path we end up seeing
elaborated on in Obi Wan Kenobi, right, and then of
(43:58):
course you and I just covered it a few weeks ago.
Go here in July the as Sage ventrist Ark where
they're you know, she comes up out of that pool
there on death Mirror and then uh, and of course
we see by the end of that whole thing with
Licos Leiko Licos there he's looking for the path, right,
(44:20):
and then he ends up not going on it, but
talks about Quinlan Boss and all that. And so I
just wanted to read those to you because when I
saw the Path, I think he just had escaped my mind,
that this was really kind of felony, and Miknivitz and
Katie Lucas really trying to set the stage for this
whole concept of the path and so I just wanted
(44:41):
to read read those off for our for our listeners,
and like you said, this would have been great to
see it in animation form. But I'll tell you what,
I agree with what you said, buddy, what Christy Golden
did with this book and with those episodes and what
she added. I own the book and I have it
(45:02):
on Audible as well. That's how much I love it.
Speaker 1 (45:06):
And fantastic book it is. It is an incredible book,
and I don't I never realized it was meant to
be eight episodes. Let me throw this out here, okay,
because we've seen so many things just happen in Star
Wars where they're making stuff here, making stuff there. How
(45:28):
would you feel? And this is completely hypothetical, you know,
we don't normally don't we don't do hypothetical, but you know,
I'm gonna do it because we're talking dark disciple. How
would you feel if they finally just broke down and
made the movie not not episodes, but they actually did
(45:48):
eight episodes you could turn into a movie.
Speaker 2 (45:50):
Oh, I think it'd be outstanding, Floony doing it. Get
the animators, Niknabitz, they're doing story editing. I think it'd
be a slam Dong.
Speaker 1 (46:00):
Easily as slammed up, because you could go I mean, Disney,
hear me out, Disney. If you're listening, you're wanting to
go back. You were wanting Lucasfilm to go back into theaters.
You're wanting them to draw audiences in What a better
way to do that than take what would have been
(46:20):
an eight episode arc of the Clone Wars has been
one of the most popular books of the Disney era, right,
turn it into an animated movie.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
Yeah, and you could run it right up to what
we saw there where they're laying her, you know, to.
Speaker 1 (46:39):
Rest right, tie it right into DWorld boom.
Speaker 2 (46:44):
And it's great because it's a forbidden love story. Yes,
and that's exciting. And as Sage's character is so great,
of course Nika Futterman, it'd be interesting to see who well,
I haven't looked who did the voice of a Sage
or of Quinland and a few of the Clone Wars.
But but but Nika Futterman is just she makes that
character just pop, you know. So it would be really cool.
(47:07):
And yeah, it would tie into the Tales of the
Underworld and you'd have a really cool story. It would
tie into Obi Wan series. You know, I it's because
they like tying all this stuff together. But they've got
the story. I mean, how many times have we seen
(47:28):
stuff a book is made into animation. This was actually
gonna be animation made into a book. So yeah, that
would be really excited to see that.
Speaker 1 (47:37):
So Al Rodrigo did the voice, did the voice of
Quinnland through the Clone Wars.
Speaker 2 (47:43):
Okay, he's done.
Speaker 1 (47:46):
He also reprised it and uh Tales of the Underworld
as well, so he's he's he's done his Star Wars.
Uh so yeah, yeah, he's still he's still doing stuff too.
So he would be easy to secure for for Quinlan.
And of course I'm sure Nick, I'm sure she would
(48:07):
jump at it. Nico Futterman was trying to say Nikita,
and I knew that was all right.
Speaker 2 (48:15):
Well, you'd have her, you'd have Al Rodrigo, you mentioned,
you'd have who does Count Dooku and and cadmane uh,
Corey Burton Court, and then you'd have John James Ronold Taylor.
Speaker 1 (48:32):
Is one, right, so you got and you got d
Bradley Baker that could do all the clones.
Speaker 2 (48:37):
All the clones, So you can do it.
Speaker 1 (48:40):
You can do it easily does. Matter of fact of fact,
what we need to do is when we're at okallaklik
coming up, you need to drop a bug in her ear.
You might want to mention this to Dave.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (48:55):
Yeah, and see if we can start a campaign. We
start a hashtag camp.
Speaker 2 (49:00):
We are everybody else does hashtag dark Disciple.
Speaker 1 (49:05):
Hashtag make Dark Disciple of movie. Yeah, hashtag dark Disciple
movie something like that. There you go, hashtag dark Disciple movie.
There we go. Yep, dude, that would be I think
that would probably be incredible if they sat down and
did that. But until they do, though, go get the book.
(49:32):
And if you don't like reading do it, do a
free uh trial on Audible and get that book.
Speaker 2 (49:41):
Yeah yeah, you.
Speaker 1 (49:42):
Well it will rock your world. Trust me, it is you.
You want romance, you want action, you want suspense. You
got it all right there, you got it all in
one book.
Speaker 2 (49:57):
You can't beat it, and beat it, buddy.
Speaker 1 (50:02):

Speaker 2 (53:30):
Oh that is a dad, Oh my gosh organic.
