Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's been annoying of your fut In nineteen seventy seven,
George Lucas formed a legacy would be I am inspired
by mythology. His soaka has become a passion for many.
His legend has become our stories, one of resistance. We
(00:23):
are going to like.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Rebellion, air and redemption.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
I am jac Father.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
This is Star Wars Reactions.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Remember we'll be with you always.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Wello everybody, and welcome to Star Wars Reactions. We're so
excited for joining us this week. We are going to
have an awesome episode. This is an episode of the
topic that I have been I've had on my list
of topics I wanted to discuss for a while, but
it's just hasn't worked out and it keeps getting pushed back.
(01:02):
But we're doing it this week, Come rain or shine.
So let's get introduction. By the way, my name is
Aaron Harris, one of your hosts here and again not
joining me this week is the great David Mattters week.
This is normal week off, so he is out having
(01:23):
some fun with his family. Normally, this is the week
I would do the Saga World Report and bring all
the news that we have not talked about lately, which
there's some news. We'll talk about it later, but I
am going to be talking with a good friend of
the show. You just heard him laugh. You have heard
(01:46):
his dulcet tones on the show before, as he has
been a guest of ours, and as he has been
a fill in host several times this year, as we
have gone through uh uh, probably the craziest year of
our lives. So but yes, I'm talking none other than
(02:07):
the incredible host of the Rebel Bass Card podcast, the
Greg McLoughlin. Greg, welcome back, my friend.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Well, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
And I would say not only is David Matters a
great co host, also a tall co host. I don't
think that your audience appreciates just how tall this cat is.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Uh. And you know he's got some he got some moves.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
He you know, he does he does you know. You
know I often think of you know, and I ought
to pull up the poster and do the editing. But
when I when I when I see being David together,
I think of the twins poster, Schwartzenegger and de Vito.
And I am not Schwartzenegger for the sure, but but
(02:51):
that's why I think it were it works. You know,
you got R two and three p O. There's a
high difference there, you get Hot and Chew. You got
high difference there as Ray Cadaen. There's a high difference
to here and David and Aaron just it's a Star
Wars thing and but everybody's.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
The same height on the zoom call. It's the great part.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
But I would say, you know, nothing was greater, and
it was it was a thank you for letting us
kind of like you know, take over the studio for
a bit, you know, when we did the storm reactions.
But it was so great to hear you know, you
and David, but come back and then you know, because
I think when you go through you know, you know,
New Star Wars, when we get it, as soon as
(03:34):
you get done watching it and ingesting it, you really
want to hear what.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Everybody else has to think.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
And so that's you know, not only are we kind
of going through Greg and Eric kind of starting our
second go through because it came so fast and furious,
all the Star Wars, but it's kind of fun to
hear what everybody else has to say about it, and
everybody's got a different take, and you know, looking forward,
to you know, David's psychology minutes on it, and you know,
(04:00):
it's it's it's fun hearing the dad jokes again, because
if you don't listen to the whole thing, you don't
get the dad joke, you don't get the you don't
get the full experience unless you watch, unless you listen
to the very end. But it was fun and then
you know, it's also kind of fun when we also
kind of trade co host where you know, we can
appear on each other's podcasts, uh, and you have different
(04:21):
combinations and those are kind of fun too, because you know,
quite frankly, we've got a lot you know, we do
have Star Wars coming up. It's going to be along
these gaps seemed to be forever now.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Yes, yes they do. And and it's you know, it's
it's we got a little bit of waste to go,
I mean between with Visions coming and everything. We got
the Lego one coming out season two, it's coming out
in the next couple of weeks, and I mean, it's
there's a lot, there's some things going on. But you know,
when when you're used to the back to back shows
(04:58):
that we're coming in or and Alcolyte, Ah Soca and
Mando and random bookba. You know, you get used to
the bad batch. I mean, all this stuff happens so much,
so quick. We're not used to having this time to
(05:18):
just sit back and go what do we talk about?
Speaker 4 (05:25):
But I don't think, you know, you're not the only
ones in that. And I find myself also it's like,
you know, a show, a show can make you very regular,
as middle aged guys like to say. But you know
the other thing is that you know, you have this
you feel the stretch of a rubber band.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
And when it kind of, you know, relaxes afterwards.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
I think, you know, everybody shows just kind of like
almost have to kind of a reset and go. And
now all of a sudden, you go from like, oh man,
we just went through this and or season you know,
series finale, and then it's like, hey, what's your top
five Phantom Menace quote? And you're like, all right, I've
got to literally, you know, put my head back on
a swivel. And then so, you know, and I think
(06:06):
it's affected everybody right now. I don't think there's a
podcast out there that hasn't. You know, you just ride
this wave and when it's kind of done. You're like, okay,
now what And it's nice like for a show like yours,
where it's more of your action too, you have plenty
of content to go over, you have plenty of content
to revisit. Plus you can take advantage with the you know,
(06:27):
with the news to sit there and go, hey, we're
just gonna talk about some news that's coming up there.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Here's a good place for it here.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Oh, let's do it. Let's do a fan let's do
a fan chat where we get together. So you guys
are kind of in a prime spot like you guys were.
You guys were doing it before everybody else was doing it.
Put it that way with the moving from one show
to another and then what to do in between, so
we can all take it. We can all take a
page from your book.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
We we have we have, we do have some history,
that's for sure. That is for sure exactly. But you
know that's why we're here tonight. You know, I could
have been doing a new show, but I didn't want
to because I wanted to tackle just you know, a
conversation about a topic that that I've been It's been,
like I said earlier, it's been on my list to
(07:13):
talk about for a while. It is something that, thanks
to you, has gotten near and dear to my heart
again and takes me back to my to my childhood.
And I figured this would be the best time as
any to sit down and just talk about Star Wars
(07:37):
trading cards.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
Ah well, first off, I thought we were going to
talk about Star Wars needle Point. And I was saying, like,
you know what, my game is a little off, but
it's time. It's really time to be bringing Star Wars
need a Point into the forefront. But oh cards, Yes,
of course I can. I can totally pivot a little
unpreparently put my stuff away here and I'm totally ready
to talk about cards with you.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
No go, there we go. Yeah, needle points Needle points
number thirty on my list right now, So we'll get
there eventually and we'll have coming there you go, there
you go. But Star Wars trading cards. I know you,
of course are our trading card guru when it comes
to all things trading cards, which is why I wanted
(08:21):
to have you on for this conversation. And I figured
now it would be a good time as any as
we're we had just got the tops chrome twenty twenty
five series released in the last little bit, and uh,
I know you've gotten some packs, I've gotten backs. I
actually have my last box booster box in my hand
that I have not opened yet. It is still wrapped
(08:45):
in the plastic. I have not opened it, like I
have the other two, which the other two are right
here opened. But you know, there's there's so much history
with these cards, and so much history in card training
altogether that you know, and there's so many design, so
(09:06):
many styles for so many lines of collections of cards,
that you know, it's it's hard to just sit back
and take it all in because you know, they've been
doing Star Wars cards since the movie came out in
seventy seven exactly, so there has been a a there's
a huge swath out there of cards. Of course, like
(09:30):
I said, the beuting in twenty seven seventy seven with
the with the Blue series of the cards there and
they are still I mean, you can still find them
out there today. You just have to look there.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
I just remember those things were printed, you know, in
the millions. You know, Star Wars was an incredibly popular series,
and you know, tops had been doing you know, a
sport and nonsport. You know, Tops, you know, they really
kind of cut their teeth in nineteen fifty one when
they started doing baseball, and there was there was a
book I was reading on the plane over the weekend
(10:08):
where you know Bowman had been doing had been you know,
locking up player contracts and all this kind of stuff.
And Tops really kind of came in mainly because of
a gentleman, you know, Cy Berger, who worked for Tops,
who really was pushing the gum company. It's like, we
really need to get into baseball and help design you know,
some of those sets, and you know, by nineteen fifty five,
(10:31):
you know, Bowman was kind of done, and so nineteen
fifty six basically about eighty one, you know, Tops had
you know carte blanche for baseball. No one else was
doing it, but Tops had been doing nonsport, you know,
for a long time.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
You know also since you know the fifties.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
With all kinds of aliens and creature sets and you
know tie ins to movies and things. If you think
about everything from like you know, King Kong to playing
into the apes to TV shows, Incredible Hulk, Threes Company,
all this stuff and continues on. But you know Star
Wars really just was a cash cow for him, and
it kind of came back mini series and then you
(11:07):
know when Empire strikes back at strikes Back and Return,
the JII came out. You know, they just kept making
these cards, you know, about ten ten of the vintage sets,
and then you know, it took a break for a
while and in the nineties, you know, during that during
that kind of the tail end of that big card boom,
you know, the junk Wacks era, as they like to
call it, they were you know, they started back with
Galaxy and we were fortunate enough to have you know,
(11:28):
Sean McTaggart on, who was the product manager for the
Galaxy set, the original one, and so yeah, they've been
doing Star Wars cards ever since. The only thing now
is that when fanatics, the you know, the people who
make all that fine sports apparel bought bought tops during
the COVID you know COVID era, we're kind of wondering,
you know, they they locked up all those sports, you know,
(11:49):
those sports, you know, leagues and so forth, with the
exception of the NHL, and we're wondering, all right, what's
going to happen. And we're starting to see it. You know,
we've had a huge card boom since COVID every but
he discovered all the cards in their closet, and we've
had a lot of high end sets these last you know,
a couple couple of years. But you know, it's nice
that with a set like you're talking about, like we're
(12:11):
talking about tonight with tops Chrome, this is one that hey,
you know, you and me and everybody can kind of
get their hands on and not feel like they have
to break the bank.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
They're not.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
We don't have to, you know, they're not all Air
Jordan's kids. These are actually stuff that you can go out.
And I'm hoping because it just came out on August twentieth,
that as we get into it, we can kind of
let you know, like, not only these cards awesome, but
maybe we can let you know where you can find
them and maybe some tips for you know, what do
you want to do with them?
Speaker 2 (12:39):
You know kind of thing.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
Yeah, absolutely, you know, And you know I grew up
when I'm growing up, I when I was Stateside, I
did collect cards. You know, I was big in the
baseball cards. Loved my baseball cards. Still have my Yeah,
not what it values out what it could have could
(13:01):
have been if you if the story was different, but
still got my rookie Can jose Canseco uh locked up
and my my rookie bo Jackson locked up. You know.
So I got from from from a young age. But
then I also got into when they weren't doing Star
(13:24):
Wars cards at that time, but they were. I was
big into Star Trek. So I found all the next
generation cards, got those and and it's been. It was
a fun collection to have. Then of course I got
out of collecting for years, and then of course got
back in the Star Wars and then in the last
couple in the last couple of years, uh, meeting you,
(13:47):
talking to you and listening to Rebel Bass card, I've
picked up the bug again. And it has been it
has it has been fun my and I have noticed
a dramatic change and how you go card shopping now.
I remember back in the day, I'd walk into any store.
(14:10):
I'd walk into Walmart, and I'd walk into k Mart,
and I just dated myself and go into these places,
grab a pack or two that they'd have a box
sitting there. I'd grab one or two packs. Five bucks later,
I was out the door and I was good to go,
and I was happy. I was excited. It was all
about to chase you open the cards. But now, and
(14:32):
I don't know if this has been your experience my experience,
I can't find cards anywhere. I even my local card shops.
They have the football cards and baseball cards, and they
have a lot of the old junk wacks as they
call it there that you can still buy. But like
the Star Wars cards, you can't. I couldn't find them
(14:55):
anywhere I got these. You know, I would much rather
buy these box is, you know, at a local card
shop and help small business. I couldn't find them. I
had to order two of these I got from Fanatics
on a pre order and this one I got from
Amazon because Amazon limited me to one box per order.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
But at least Amazon was there for us, because you know,
when I got back into cards, right around the time
that The Force Awakens was coming out, you know, the
journey to where, oh my gosh, you had you know, Walgreens.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Target and Toys r US.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
You had these different exclusive releases with them, and you
could find them, and I just I saw them because
they were on uh, they were on these end caps
at Target, which you know, for a long time, that's
all I bought, was, you know, anything that I could
find at target, whether it was resistance, you know, with
the hangar boxes. In some cases you could still buy
(15:57):
individual packs as well as blasters, but kind of kind
of became the pack. But even then, not all targets
and walmarts were created equal, and so you'd find maybe
a box or two at one store.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
You wouldn't find it now.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
Of course, in an area like Chicago Land where I
can go twenty thirty minutes in any direction and stumble
across the target, I might I might have to go
to all those in order to find one of them
that has it. And so of the last couple of years, surprisingly,
game Stop has kind of come into cards. They've really
gotten into it, whether they you know, like have helped
(16:32):
people like submit to PSA if somebody wanted to protect
or slab their card as it were, but also being
able to offer hobby boxes.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
As well as blasters.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
On occasion at at at decent prices, along with the
other cards. So I'm like, if you're a card collector,
you have the big you have the big online presences,
the Dave and Adams, the blowout cards, the Steel City
Collectibles in Pittsburgh. Here we have Chicago Land Sports cards,
which says a lot of online ordering. But I was
happy to see not only GameStop got come in.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
But you know, I did order a.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
Blaster or two through Amazon, and I'm like, I just
wanted to get one or two, and I was happy
they had them. So the thing that's disappointing to me
is that you just I would like it to be
where you just kind of stumble upon it, whether you
even find like, you know, I've kind of started to
kind of think maybe baseball is maybe a way I
(17:28):
want to go, because one baseball is still sold everywhere,
you know. So the flagship proper, the flagship property that
that Tops has, you can find them an individual you
can go to five below and five individual packs of baseball.
You can get blasters if you want to. You can
get the jumbo boxes. You can go to Costco, which
I have seen four Star Wars prom was a late
(17:51):
than a late entry as well if the scalpers don't
get there first. But you want it to, you know,
I try to tell my audience, I'm like, I want
it to remain fun. And so although I'm a little
more serious about collecting my audience mostly isn't. And although
y'all have money, because you know, sometimes people make a
play at a hash lab or they go to a
(18:11):
convention and get you know, it's not a question of
like having the kind of money. It's really it's about
like when am I here making that purchase?
Speaker 2 (18:18):
And in some cases.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
I find that, you know, the digital the Star Wars
Training Card app to be almost the perfect vehicle because
it's there if.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
You want to pick it, you know, you're on your phone.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
Anyway you can you can pay to play as it
were with the more expensive acts, or you can free
play it and be perfectly content.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
And and there's.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
A lot of crossover because a lot of the physical
does make it into the digital app. And so you know,
it's gotten trickier, it's not gotten as spur the moment,
it's still there. But the release that we're talking about
with the Chrome is the one I think most people
are going to be able to find and find out
a price point that they can agree with if they
want to take a stab. But considering, you know, considering
(19:02):
some of the properties we've had, you know, like with
with Skeleton Crew and you know, Soca and Acolyte. Here's
where you can find their cards and if you're thinking
about maybe getting them signed later, some of these debut cards,
these are really gorgeous cards to maybe go and you know,
have someone put a what signature and it'd be great.
(19:23):
What a great collectible that would be.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Oh yeah, absolutely, it's It's one of those things that
you know that's and I've told you I'm thinking about
doing that with some of these cards for Okalla Kama
con coming up, taking some of these up and getting
them signed and seeing what I could because I know
Manny has Sinto is going to be there the Stranger
(19:45):
And with these new shows, like you mentioned Skeleton Crew
and Acolyte, and we're getting all especially with this new
twenty twenty five set, we're getting these cards, We're getting
these characters in their cards and the inserts too. These
this twenty twenty five set has the inserts for Skeleton
(20:05):
Crew and for Acolyte, which which was which has been
absolutely incredible to see too, because you're getting those images
of episodes and stuff that you're used to getting in
previous you know, like when with the Star Trek Star
Trek ones I talked about when I had growing up.
You'd buy it. They had them by season. You buy
(20:28):
the season one pack. All right, these are all shots
from episodes from season one, and you get these shots
for Acolyte and for especially Skeleton Crew. I love Skeleton Crew.
It's been so much fun to see those cards come
through as we go.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
Yeah, it was just like an also in here. And
something that that Chrome did last year in this year
was you know, now, you know in the sports or
in let's say in baseball, you'll have like a rookie
card in where Tops will put you know, RC on
so a player, you know, like a Paul Schemes, right,
the big picture for the Pirates, you know, on his
rookie cards of rcs. And even they started doing something
(21:11):
where last year where they would when he made his
first appearance, his uniform actually had a special patch on
it that was a debut patch, and I and Tops
took that and made it sort of a one on one.
I think some kid pulled that and you know it
was it was you know, so now it's fun to.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Like watch a baseball game.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
And so if you hear them talking about like, hey,
this is his first appearance, I'll go looking for the
first appearance patch and then you know when the a
lot of the rookies tend to come in this tops
update set that comes out in November, and there's some
rookies that I'm kind of looking for, you know, like
I don't know if I'm gonna get lucky and pull
something like that, but I would, you know, following a
(21:49):
season going oh hey, I'd like to have you know,
this catcher for the sucks Kyle Till I'm like, man,
I wouldn't mind having his rookie card, and I think
it's probably going to show up, and I'm kind of curious,
is you know Colson Montgomery and all this, so, you
know Star Wars having the debut medallion's on there, Like
in this one, I pulled like a Knull. This is
Neil's dad, okay, and you know it's one and actually
(22:10):
funny enough.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
At LFCC, I met the actor's dad.
Speaker 4 (22:15):
It was it was the second day and I think
I think Jamie Richards, the guy an artist was getting
I think he was asking some questions on the behalf
of Star Wars sessions and the dad was there. Dad
kind of manages, you know, I forget the actor's name
off the top of my head. But I was like,
I'm gonna go over and get a selfie with Neil's
real dad and he was, he was.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
He was very fun.
Speaker 4 (22:36):
You know, like here's a teacher droid that's also has
a debut. You know, like there's tons of them, but
you know, this would be fun because sometimes you'll probably
get some of these people that will show up and
they're you know, they're not an incredibly expensive autograph or
you know, and and now you know, as you've seen
prices got. But I'm like, that'd be a hoot if
if hoo'sy what's it shows up in this, you know,
(22:58):
Neil's dad shows up and go, hey, I got something
for you to sign right there, and.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
They probably get a kick out of it. You know,
they don't they might not even know they have a card.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
Exactly exactly you say. I like these Skeleton crew and
personally these are just absolutely gorgeous and uh the way
they they are, they really are. And of course you
got the the debut patches there points as well with
there that's the skull Ridge Mountain hoteller. They never gave
(23:33):
her a name, and she had a lot of lines.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
On Wikipedia. One of these days for sure.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
It probably will or or it'll show up in a
uh behind the scenes book for Skeleton Crew, you know,
artist Skeleton Crew or something like that. But we need
we need to get one of those out and there's
there's Luthen. Yeah, that's a beautiful card, man. And one
(23:59):
thing I love about these chrome cards is just how
the finish on it, the reflective finish that it just
it adds a layer of just status to the card
almost it makes it feel that much more special when
you're looking at it because of how it refracts the
(24:22):
light when it hits it. And it's just so much,
so much fun. And what impressed me too with especially
with this set, is the shout out to Star Wars Resistance.
There we go Craig and go yeah, Craig and Gore
the Pirate captain uh in there as well. So I
mean have been some This is a fantastic set that
(24:47):
they have been releasing.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
An improvement I think on last year is that, you know,
oftentimes with the chrome cards will have a tendency to
curl a bit, and I can tell that with my
twenty twenty four, but this one, as soon as I
open them up, that was a thicker card a little.
It felt a little thicker. It lays flat. I think
the backgrounds are last year's backgrounds at a little grungy,
a little dirty, and yes one this one seemed a
(25:12):
lot cleaner. You don't have the borders on the front,
or at least the partial borders, and so.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
I think someone would find if they opened one of these.
Speaker 4 (25:21):
And I always had Kara dj from into a larger world,
she opened some chrome that's in the vault. I've got
to get those shows turned around. But you know, it's
one of those where you know, this is a two
hundred card base set, so it's a little bigger, so
someone may not be interested in so much like I
don't need to complete and get all two hundred cards.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
You know, now with the.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
Blasters, right, you know you can get an autograph. It's
going to be a hard get. But I think if
I said to you, like, well, you know, well you
could get a guaranteed auto if you paid two hundred
and fifty to three hundred dollars a box, and you'd say, Greg,
thank you very much. I'll stick to my thirty dollars blaster.
But there are exclusive to the blaster.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
There's an exclusive variant this ray wave.
Speaker 4 (26:05):
That is really sharp and with the new backgrounds they
look it looks really nice. There are insert sets that
are only going to be in the blasters.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
I think one of my.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
Favorite there was a kind of almost like a color
by numbers and I was looking for it in some
in the box and yes.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
There is Star Wars by the numbers.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
Yes, And it looks like those old school, you know,
coloring books where they'd have numbers all over it and
they would correspond to like, hey, you know in this
section is going to be seven and X section is
going to be seven six, and you know it's kind
of a finish that.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
You know what, I.
Speaker 4 (26:43):
Could I could snak some of my kids markers and
you know what, hey, is the worst thing in the world.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
I had.
Speaker 4 (26:49):
I had some fun and we were going like, well
what colors? You come up with your own colors? Man,
I mean this is hard.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
Bake it up as you go, make it up as.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
You go along, but have fun with it.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
I think you keep coming back to that, Oh that
recks gorgeous fun. Someone who wasn't like a serious card
collector would go, hey, this is fun because oh I
remember that character. Oh that's a character's name, and you
might get one blaster and just be perfectly happy.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
It goes back and it goes into your collection and
be that.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
What I've noticed in the past, and we've talked about
this with previous releases, is that even though the card
number count is a little lower or even I think
last year, I think you could get forty cards to
a blaster, right, Yeah, but if the if the set,
if the complete base sets one hundred, it wouldn't take
you that many boxes, two or three boxes, and you'd
start getting a lot of duplicates.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
Hey, which still fine, Go trade with your friends. That's
what these cards are about.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
But exactly for someone like me.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
Going this is probably one of the only i would say,
pedestrian and releases of the year. And we've had a
number of them, from Antiquities to Hyperspace, Chrome Black mass Work,
but those are all high end sets.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
I don't mind.
Speaker 4 (27:57):
Along Chase, I could go like I could see myself,
oh a number of months getting maybe five or six
blasters and probably getting a decent chunk on a set,
and then my duplicate account maybe down a little bit.
But as you were talking with those the Skeleton crew
and Acolyte insert sets. I'm like, those are those are
legit chases, whether than just a random set of like
(28:19):
you know, Heroes of the Alliance and something like, well,
I want to they didn't release any Skeleton Crew or
Acolyte cards. I would love to get some.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
Oh exactly, I would love to as well. And you
know it's one o the c And I'm glad you
answered that question. I was going to ask you the
question anyway about how many if you knew how many
cards were in the base set for this, uh, because
I was curious about that. I just had it going
on to look it up. Two hundred. That's a lot
more than I anticipated.
Speaker 4 (28:48):
It sounds bad, but I would say, like I said,
if you like, if you're getting forty cards, forty cards
per box, and you're probably gonna get you know, there's
I think there's eight packs, five cards per pack. Three
of those cards are probably going to be based cards
or maybe a roof fractor. You're probably going to get
an insert or or you know, I think you get
four of those cool raywave variants per per blaster. So
(29:14):
the thing of it is is that you get another blaster.
It's like it's always like the odds go down of like,
you know, the first blast you get, you don't have
any of those cards, but by second third blaster you're
starting to get like less of stuff you don't.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Have and more stuff you don't need.
Speaker 4 (29:30):
But in this case, I think because the set's larger,
you could go longer and still just go, oh, hey,
I'm on a target run. Or I it's Payday. I'm
gonna hit Amazon before I get out out of the office. Yes,
I'm buying an Amazon at the and then I'll get
it on Monday, and you know, so you know, Prime
Day is always around, seemingly always around.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
The corner, so always always.
Speaker 4 (29:54):
But that's where I'm like, I'm not in a bigger
hurry to finish this, but I am.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
I am excited to just go.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
And so I still have a blaster that I haven't
opened yet, a game stop lost. I think my one
of my pre orders is sitting in a warehouse, and
I'm like, that's fine, it's there. Some of it's paid for,
you know, because you get GameStop. The best thing about
it is if you want to do a pre order,
you have put five dollars down there, you go and
I'll pay you know, it's like who you know who?
(30:23):
But you remember Kmart used to do lightway if you
want to talk about Kmart. But so I'm like, no,
this is fine. I'll enjoy the chase. I don't feel
like I have to gather it all right away. It
may not be on shelves long, but I know that
once the craze goes down, you know, I'm probably going
to see it, you know, whether I find it in
a game stop, whether I see it on Amazon, because
(30:45):
I'm sure that Amazon had to get they had they
had to make, they had to get a lot to
Amazon in order, you know, to get probably to satisfy
their requirements.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
And I think that's also why.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
There are three different variants of the blaster that if
I you know, if you go to tops dot com,
slash checklists or you do it, there is the uh
there there are different you know, like there is the
hobby box. And when we talk talk about hobby box,
these are the ones that you would normally find in
your local card shop. They are more expensive, but the
(31:17):
odds of getting something really good are lower.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
Used to be, you could get about a full set
in a hobby box.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
Those days are long, long, but you know whether it
was a your hit was a high numbered you know,
low numbered variant, or an autograph or maybe a sketch
card or plate or something like that. There's something called
a breaker's delight, which if you go onto Whatnot or
you go on to Instagram, some of these you know
that these these breakers, and what they do is they
(31:44):
get a lot of boxes, and they actually will sell
slots and or they might do a character like hey,
any character that starts.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
With an A.
Speaker 4 (31:51):
You want to buy into that one. And it's almost
like a little bit of gambling. But it's definitely been
a big chunk of the hobby. It's its own thing.
But breakers Delights are more expensive boxes than hobby boxes,
but they have more hits. And then you have what
you call the value boxes or blasters, and these are
you know, in this case, there are a few different ones.
(32:12):
Their variations and their odds are just slightly different. But
I have a feeling that like say, for example, your
larger distributors may get some of the little better blasters,
but may also charge a little more for him. Amazon
may get a little more pedestrian version. But at the
end of the day, they're all going to be the
(32:32):
same mostly the same kind of cards in it, other
than just variants that might go into one another. Now,
last we found out Costs Costco has been getting into
the game. So they have what they call these jumbo boxes,
and they might even have a large one that's exclusive
or in a card or two that's exclusive just to costcos,
and so you might find them. I think the price
(32:53):
they were going for thirty nine, let's just say forty.
And if you know, like I said, it's one of
those things, they'll show up in the darkness places.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
Pokemon has also.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
Been You've been able to find them in costcos and so,
like I said, I'm happier that they're in more places.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
I'm certainly.
Speaker 4 (33:10):
I certainly don't recommend hobbies unless you know. For example,
I saw on one of the big sites they were
selling hobby boxes of last year's chrome for about one
hundred and fifty, and I was like, that's about that's
about a hobby box price anywhere from like about eighty
to one hundred and fifty used to be like back
(33:32):
in the day, this card back in the day prices.
But if you can wait, you can generally find a
good deal.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
Okay, Yeah, I saw the the uh Costco ones online
the other day and I was like, that's not bad.
That was that looked like a nice little set there.
Because that big old box, it has one Jumbo card
in there, then ten regular packs than three special packs.
(34:01):
There's thirty nine ninety nine. I'm like, like, man, I
need the closest Costco's in Brandon. So it's about forty
minutes away. Doable, but I don't have a Now, I
just got to find somebody with Costco membership and I
may bring one home.
Speaker 4 (34:19):
And trust me, anybody like myself who has Costco memberships,
if you're if you're getting out of there under two hundred,
it's amazing. So it's like you could probably hide a
Star Wars thing in it, like hey, we're getting we're
gonna get the paper towels and napkins, and we're going
to get this and that, and that just gets it
in there. I don't know how they got in there.
(34:40):
And by the way, would you like a dollar hot dog?
Speaker 2 (34:42):
And then that's how you get out of there.
Speaker 4 (34:44):
But yeah, find find a buddy with with Costco membership.
But yeah, it you know, like I said, it's it's
frustrating because they aren't more readily available for you too,
kind of like oh do I want or not? So
you have to be a little more. But even then,
like if if we were talking about action figures or
legos and things like that, not all stores are made equal.
(35:07):
And sometimes you go to these stores and it might
be the only story that you have, and the shelves
are pretty bare. And so if you're a figure collector,
or you like you know, or you like the books
even you know.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
Not all Barnes and Nobles are made equal.
Speaker 4 (35:21):
And yes, we could probably get it online, but wouldn't
be great to while we were out doing errands.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Hey, let's stop in a bookstore. Your community may still
have them.
Speaker 4 (35:30):
You remember borders, don't you since we're going to throw
out k Marts.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
But and Walden's Walden Books.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
Oh, Walden Books.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
Yeah, moment of silence, please yes, please, thank you. Well,
see I'm excited because they just announced this past week
we're getting at Barnes and Noble again. Our Lakeland had
one years ago and it shut down and the property
was on turned into a Chick fil A, a uh,
(36:01):
the Krispy Kreme and and a store called Allie's.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Yeah, we have, we had we have an allays up
here way out there.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
But yeah, so but now are since Party City went under.
Now Party City is gone. They have just announced that
they're putting up Barnes and Noble in there, and I'm like,
are you kidding me? This is the greatest news ever.
Speaker 4 (36:32):
And if you have not been in a Barnes and
Noble of late, you know they are like, we have
a number of them here. You're finding Lego in there.
Gaming products. So if you like, you like your D
and D you want to get your game on a
lot of box games. Still you can find some of
your you know, DVDs and movies. But the I was
(36:53):
in one and I'd forgotten, like the one closest to
me is okay, it's a little small, but we were
out of a different one. I'm like, man, the periodical
in there. I'm like the magazines. I'm like, yeah, this
was great everything. And then you know even for card
collectors like you know Beckett's, you know their Vintage collector
on Sport Update, you know that's that's the you know,
like go to the craft section of a Barnes and Noble,
(37:15):
like in the periodicals and they're like these bagged magazines
would like legit things.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
Of yarn and stuff. I'm like, so, yeah, if you
just like kind of.
Speaker 4 (37:23):
Going and just kind of walking around, it's you know,
it's like imagine like, you know, the Starbucks with a
little less pretension.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
Yeah. So I'm excited because of where it's located. I
can now send my wife in the hobby lobby and
I can go to Barnes and Noble because they are
neighbors now or it will be when it opens, so
I don't have to walk through hobby lobby anymore, which
(37:50):
means my wallet comes with me.
Speaker 2 (37:52):
Now.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
We thought it was safe when joe Ane Fabrics. Also,
by the way, Moment of Silence went out. But but yeah,
then all that plaza is missing is a five below
and the Marshalls.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
And we're actually it does have a five below in
the Marshall's. It does have a five below a Marshall's
and a Ross.
Speaker 4 (38:12):
Ross needs to step up the game a little bit
if we just want if we want to take the
podcast down this road, you put a Ross and Marshalls.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
I'm going into Marshalls every time.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
Oh yeah, absolutely, and for and and when you're done
and you're hungry. There's also a Taco bell and a
Texas roadhouse.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
Oh, there you go.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
Let's make it spad a whole day and the whole
day in the right there. Oh be good.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
You get your local pastor you go. You know what
I think would go?
Speaker 4 (38:38):
I think our church will go great right there, and
you park there, you get day long parking. You're just
gonna we're gonna go from We're gonna go from church,
We're gonna go to the roadhouse. And then we're just
gonna spend and then you know, then all of a sudden,
it's time for Sunday night football.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
Right there, you go, there you go, or six minutes
whatever is, whatever is, whatever it is in your in
your local area.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
Yep, speaking of football by Washington, team is getting their
butts kicked right now my Green Bay. Oh no, they're beaten. There,
they're losing, but it's okay, it's halftime. It's a lot
of football to go. But trading cards. I still have
this unopen blaster. Let's do it, let's do it. We'll
(39:19):
do it. And of course we are. We are recording
video on this, so don't be surprised to see some
of the video pop up of us of me opening
these these cards here.
Speaker 4 (39:31):
I think it's yeah, I have to apologize for for
the for the mood lighting. I'm not necessarily in my
normal video spot. But Chopper is doing me a lot
of good back here.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Hey, you know what, that's all that matters. Here's the box.
We got one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight
cards or eight packs, I should say. Each pack has
Master Saul on the front, and each pack contains Sinko
(40:01):
five one, two, three, four five cards. You ready for
pack one?
Speaker 2 (40:05):
Let's do it?
Speaker 3 (40:06):
Do it? Here we go. I can already tell you
I'm happy with the back card. There, here we go. Oh,
there we go ord fandor right there, that's awesome.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Get you ord hoard on nice.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
Yeah. And then we got Wato.
Speaker 4 (40:31):
And I think we got one that's one of the
ray waves.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
You can see the way the ones.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
Then we got these are one of the Outer World
oddity cards.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
That is one of the inserts sets one of.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
The inserts of the Accolae to Pulo.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
Now something that something.
Speaker 4 (40:52):
While you're going through these, there is a variant called
a refractor. Right now, these things have sort of a
shiny reflective ten to of them. But you also notice
there is a refractor variant. And when we talk about
variants are just sometimes they can be different colors of
the same you know, of the same card. And sometimes
(41:12):
those variants are rare enough that they'll be numbered like
say two one hundred or two hundred, or like say
to ninety nine one ninety nine.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
And so forth.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
So just look at if you see something that looks
a little odd, make sure to look on the back
to see if it's a refractor or be if it's
a if a numbered variant, you want to make sure
to kind of sit those on the side because those
are a little more rare ones.
Speaker 3 (41:35):
There's sure what from Rugue one and the one I
said I was happy to see bixix there command or yeay,
that was the first pack. Decent first pack. Got some
good cards in there.
Speaker 4 (41:55):
Exactly now as you were saying, these inserts. So these
are little little set within a sets. There are a
number of them in here.
Speaker 2 (42:03):
You know.
Speaker 4 (42:03):
We had the aforementioned Skeleton Crew, Acolyte, other world oddities.
We also have Star Wars by the number, that's the
one that looks like the coloring book one.
Speaker 2 (42:11):
We have a.
Speaker 4 (42:12):
Galactic graffiti tribute to and these are ones I don't
think you'll see it in the blasters, but they look
like the nineteen seventy five tops Baseball one and if
if you, if you've seen, ever seen nineteen.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
Seventy five google, go ahead and google it. It's a
crazy looking set.
Speaker 4 (42:29):
But there's a lot more double visions, bonus stages, kyber lights, reflections,
comic Fractor one with the forest and so some of
these will be exclusive to certain boxes. But yeah, typically
your you know, your pack will have a few bass
cards and a couple of inserts.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
Wendell from Skeleton Crew his debut card. Yep, and this
one is ah yes, excellent.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
Mhm, sikatanou nice with the new Republic logo.
Speaker 3 (43:02):
Republic logo. Yeah, I was noticing that. That's nice ad
it's there. Uh, here we go, he mentioned one of
the Skeleton Crew inserts. Here we go. Supervisor revealed, nice,
I love that, plus a lot of good text on
the background.
Speaker 2 (43:22):
So I think I think folks back of the.
Speaker 3 (43:25):
Card too, There we go, Yeah, those are those are
nice inserts. Well, I think I say I got another.
So Katana Duplic a card in the same Yeah, there
(43:45):
we go, and we'll wrap this back up with good
old I g I love it. I love how the
bounty Hunter has the Republican New Republic logo on there.
I mean, he does it end up working for the
New Republic.
Speaker 2 (44:01):
But you know, I guess the Guild doesn't have a
whole lot of marketing.
Speaker 3 (44:06):
So apparently not. All right, here comes the next pack.
Oh my god, huang. Oh that's nice, a nice card.
And we got Poggle the Lesser.
Speaker 2 (44:27):
Another one of your ray Way ones. Very nice. Yeah,
I think I think I know what's coming.
Speaker 3 (44:40):
I'm gonna set that side, save that one for Oh
all right, let's skip to the next two cards.
Speaker 2 (44:48):
This is going on TikTok o.
Speaker 3 (44:51):
There's three p O. I don't know which one of these.
I'll do this one first because the other one is
a big poll.
Speaker 2 (45:00):
He's excited, folks. He got his.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
Chopper, got my chopper, got my chopper. And you know
if I'm saying, I did this chopper before the next one,
because you know this one is is something. Wow, you
ready for this?
Speaker 2 (45:17):
Oh what's coming? Ah? Speaking of those seven.
Speaker 3 (45:25):
Seventy one, seventy one of seventy five.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
Oh, look at that numbered.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
Yes, numbered parallel. Get that back on there.
Speaker 2 (45:36):
That is sweet. That is a great hit.
Speaker 3 (45:39):
Great pull is a great pull. Oh, I let's set
that one to the side. There, gotta find my uh
my uh protectors, get you get yourself and you're they're
still in a box somewhere. I gotta find them. They're
one of the boxes I have not unpacked yet, so.
Speaker 2 (46:00):
You will have to send you down an emergency kit.
Speaker 3 (46:04):
All right, here we go. Here's uh this is what
pack number four, so this will be halfway through. Uh
amon grim, I'm so low.
Speaker 2 (46:16):
Oh I like it. I like the the logo we
have on the back.
Speaker 3 (46:20):
Interesting, well that's the uh that's the Crimson don logo.
Speaker 2 (46:25):
Look at you Johnny on the spot.
Speaker 3 (46:27):
Very nice Crimson yep, because it's the necklace that Kira
war So I got, uh tray another Rex there.
Speaker 2 (46:41):
We gotta be talking about that Rex cardon.
Speaker 3 (46:44):
You got it, bro, I got I got you, I
got you hooked up? Bro. Ah. Here we go. Ah,
that is nice.
Speaker 2 (46:55):
I like that Acoe.
Speaker 3 (46:56):
That is nice. Yes for extra row with her purple whip.
Very nice. Good old Ezra Bridger put that with your
chopper exactly. Ah. And didre marow Nice pulls, nice pools,
(47:22):
nice pools. It could be hard to beat that last
pack though, Yes, that's a great hit that I'm excited
about that one. I am excited about that one. Here
we go, ah, Jess Pava nice and I don't recognize
(47:50):
this character from the Acolyte caboc hm hmm, except from
I just don't recognize it from the acol Like, yeah,
I'm bar keep Yep, yep, that's it. That's the barkeeper
(48:18):
where and Dara got killed? We got the pike boss
on that wave nice, the trash crab mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (48:36):
And a debute card, a debut card at that.
Speaker 3 (48:38):
Yes, it's from Skeleton Crew. If y'all haven't watched it,
y'all need to go watch Skeleton Crew. Then of course
Skeleton Crew as well. Another debut card.
Speaker 2 (48:51):
I am looking for that card.
Speaker 3 (48:53):
All right, Well, see if we get another one and
we can talk. That's a nice card right there.
Speaker 4 (49:00):
He has uh, he has autographs in this set, which
I can realize not only are they are they probably
going to be rare, but they're also I don't think
he probably signed as many as others.
Speaker 2 (49:12):
And so the jew law and that was in the
I'll have.
Speaker 4 (49:15):
To I have to take a picture or send you
a picture of the cell shoot that I have the
PDF that I have on this set, and yeah, that'd
be one of those like that'd be a sweet auto
right there.
Speaker 2 (49:27):
But I don't think there are many of them.
Speaker 3 (49:30):
Mayor marks.
Speaker 4 (49:34):
From boy And I was just thinking, I'm like, you
know what, I am kind of do as much as
we kind of you know, it's not it's not usually
up there into people's favorites.
Speaker 2 (49:44):
I'm like, you know what, I'm kinda due for a
book of Boba fet rewatch.
Speaker 3 (49:47):
I actually did that when I when I was taking
all that time off with my mom being sick and everything,
I actually did rewatch book a Boba fet to to
kill sometime. There was a lot of fun. Oh doctor, yes,
(50:08):
that's a nice one. Also debut here we go s
M thirty three Skeleton Crew.
Speaker 2 (50:18):
Ooh nice and you.
Speaker 3 (50:21):
See snowball sticking out his other eye real quick? Nice okay, okay,
And we got it's from Skeleton Crew, right yeah, Murray
Marie from Skeleton Crew.
Speaker 2 (50:39):
Once again. I love the emb emblems in the back
four they were twenty twenty four.
Speaker 4 (50:46):
They were different colors, the fashions of different colors. But
with this it pops a little more and you and
I like seeing it a little extra a little extra
lore in your card.
Speaker 3 (50:57):
And another debut with mother Anasiah Nice from Accolytes Nice Nice.
We got two more packs to go through, and so
I mean I could stop right now and I'd be
happy with the polls I've gotten. So I mean, that's
(51:18):
that is. I will say, even with my twenty twenty
four packs that I got, I didn't get hits like that.
So that was that's nice. I'm exed, I'm stoked, and
we're going to continue with the Anisea family with.
Speaker 2 (51:35):
Ohsha Nice also debut yep.
Speaker 3 (51:40):
And here's another debut with Runa.
Speaker 2 (51:45):
Ooh Anna Ray Wave yep.
Speaker 3 (51:50):
Oh. Here we go color by number?
Speaker 2 (51:52):
Which one did you get? Ooh Max?
Speaker 4 (51:58):
Which, by the way, I'm going to go on record,
I did not find the Max Rebou toy at Disneyland,
and I was looking for it. Yeah, it was there
was something and I know that like both Ross Russ
Holloman and Greg was like, dude, you need to find out.
I'm like, I was looking. I couldn't find it, and
you know, I couldn't find it in some of the
stores and on property. I couldn't find it in the
(52:18):
Galactic training post I was kind of, but I was
just too high on the blue milk. I don't know,
I wasn't looking the right place.
Speaker 3 (52:28):
It's sold out while you're grabbing blue milk. Nemic Mandor
And of course Coscar reeves nice, very nice, very nice,
like that Max Rebough that's pretty cool, all right.
Speaker 4 (52:45):
And there's another one like even if you didn't like
he did you know? Even the numbers is like all right, Max,
Max is blue and the rest of it you.
Speaker 3 (52:52):
Used to make it up exactly exactly all right. This
is it last pack.
Speaker 2 (52:59):
Savoring the moment. I see a smile, he's gotten something.
Speaker 4 (53:03):
I wonder if that Hara card, that elusive Hara cards
out there still.
Speaker 2 (53:08):
Yeah, I was gonna say I called it, called it,
called it. Uh Sabine might be in there as well.
Speaker 3 (53:18):
Our scheme there we Go from and or there we
go Accolade inserts. I gotta remember where the camera is
on this thing.
Speaker 4 (53:33):
Sorry, Yeah, I was gonna say that that smile was
not indicative of you pulling Toro Kalakan from from Mendo
Season one.
Speaker 3 (53:47):
Fair uh nice and the last card from this pack
from and Or Wellman.
Speaker 2 (53:59):
Mm hmmm, puck o one puck.
Speaker 3 (54:04):
But that's it. That's the entire back there and definitely
the pull of the century.
Speaker 4 (54:14):
This guy is great from a blaster and that just
like I said, it's going to be difficult to hit
some of these things, but I would say that, you know,
it's a pleasant experience.
Speaker 2 (54:24):
You didn't you didn't pay a mint? What did you
what did you buy? Three blasters overall?
Speaker 3 (54:28):
Three blasters overall?
Speaker 4 (54:29):
Yeah, so you figure one hundred and twenty cards, you've
probably got a decent chunk, a decent start on the
base so far.
Speaker 3 (54:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (54:39):
So, yeah, a good started, and you know a lot
of great ones. And yeah, once you kind of get
maybe into like you know, like if you start thinking about,
like maybe I want to start putting these into a binder,
you know, you're at the point where probably start maybe
thinking about some and then you know, you got a
(54:59):
page for your acco page, for your skeleton crew page
from maybe you know, the random ones, and then you'll
start to kind of see as you kind of put
a binder together, the story this set's kind of telling.
You know, each set kind of has a story of
how they clump these who they choose, and then you know,
if you find a con in your area, or something
(55:20):
that you go, oh, hey, that's someone's a signer. The
eight by tens are always there for them to sign.
But if you're looking for something a little unique or
want to make one of these bass cards a little
more valuable, then you could see if they can sign
one of your tops twenty twenty five.
Speaker 3 (55:35):
Chrome exactly exactly, And we're gonna see what we can do.
And I do have some binders here. I did find
my binders.
Speaker 2 (55:45):
They're ready to go.
Speaker 3 (55:46):
So but yeah, this is to me, this is so
much fun. I love going through and it's just something
about getting a and I love the Car Trader app.
That's fun. You get some beautiful cards, great designs, and
you actually have the ability to get have a better
chance at getting some of these specialty line specialty inserts
(56:12):
that you don't get. That you have a better chance
in the game and the app than you do in
real life at some points. But the there's just something
about opening a pack, having it in your hand and
then just one the excitement of just seeing what card
you got, but then of course getting a pool like
(56:34):
like like I just got there. It just the the
exhilaration makes you want to go, makes me want to
go buy three more.
Speaker 2 (56:43):
Boosters, but also something that may be in your area
as well.
Speaker 4 (56:47):
And we've talked about we've talked about it before, but
Star Wars Unlimited, which is the you know, the Fantasy
Flight game. It's yeah, they've had a number of releases. Uh,
they have had two this year. And these packs you
can find in a lot of places, including you know,
like if you have a place that sells you know,
Pokepon or magic, you can find it. You might have
(57:10):
a dedicated gaming store in your area, but you know,
there's a lot of original art that's going in those
in those sets, and those I think are like about
you know, twelve fifteen cardibsing. It's a lot of cards
and if you get enough of them, you can play
a game with it. But that's I know that we
had Legends of the Forest was just released in July.
(57:34):
Secrets of Power and that kind of features. Oh, pop
up helps if you look some of their pre release images.
Speaker 2 (57:40):
That comes out in November.
Speaker 4 (57:41):
But we had jumped to light Speed earlier, so that's
where we had some we had some ships and things
like that. But if you're just looking for a quick
you know, what I like is those packs. I can
usually find for about five bucks either either at you know,
one or two of the stores gaming stories I see
in our area. And it's kindnice because that way, I'm like,
you know, what I've played before, I'll probably play again
(58:02):
at some point, but if I'm just looking for something
fun to rip, and there's a lot of great art
and a lot of great Star Wars moments in it.
Speaker 2 (58:10):
Yeah, I've seen some choppers.
Speaker 4 (58:12):
I've seen some ghosts and Haras and and and artwork
from people who I've even talked to on the podcast.
Speaker 2 (58:18):
So it's it's also a fun you know, it's a
fun substitute.
Speaker 4 (58:22):
But it's like there are also variants inside there and
really nice ones, so you know, don't it's just the
the chrome is the big game right now.
Speaker 2 (58:31):
But don't, don't, don't skimp on Star Wars Unlimited. I
think you could really have some fun.
Speaker 4 (58:37):
Open up a couple of packs and check out and
see if the they have some nights where they can
teach you how to play the game.
Speaker 3 (58:42):
Yeah, you know, I I've I've actually we've talked about
Unlimited before off the air. We've we've discussed it several times,
and I do have several unlimited unlimited packs that I
actually had a deck and stuff built up to start
playing the game till the flood happened. So now I'm
(59:02):
trying to rebuild a deck to get where I can
start playing again. Because my local shop does do game
nights on Friday nights. They do unlimited I want to
say it is they do. They do unlimited game nights,
and they I've already I've talked to them several times.
They're like, yeah, come in, we'll teach you. And they yeah,
(59:23):
so we they know me as a Star Wars guy,
because they that's all that's I walk in. They're like,
I got your Star Wars comics ready.
Speaker 2 (59:32):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (59:34):
And sometimes you know, they might just be as interested
in what you pull as you do. Sometimes, you know,
I've seen this at stores where it's like, hey, we're
gonna crack open some and and you know, might be
on a draft night where everybody's there and you can go,
you can flip through and might be able to trade
ye or some people, like I said, in some stores,
I've even seen it where some of the locations and
(59:54):
some of the you know, your main characters, your heroes
or whatnot, are so prevalent. They'll just to help you
fill out, you know, to get a deck on.
Speaker 2 (01:00:03):
People want to play and why not.
Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
It's fun, right, Yeah, it's all about exactly exactly. So yeah, well,
I mean we're we're getting late into the show. We
better start moving stuff down to where we can wrap
things up. But it has been so much fun talking
to you and getting to go through all of these
(01:00:25):
cards and and everything with you. And hopefully it's peaked
people's interests in card collecting again, if not peak their
interest for the first time, if not before so, But
if you do want to know a lot more about
card collecting, the man to talk to is the man
(01:00:48):
on the other side of the mic here, miss Greg.
If they want to check out Rebel based Card or
even talk to you about card collecting, how would they
go about doing that? Well?
Speaker 4 (01:01:03):
On most of the socials, Instagram is usually where I
spend the ball of my time, whether it's Instagram or
x or Blue Sky. I do have a Facebook presence
there as well, but you can reach out at Rebel
bas Card if you search there, you can email me
Greg at Rebel bascard dot com. And I have had
people reach out and ask questions like I said, Kara
(01:01:23):
DJ from Into a Large World came on and we
not only ripped a few packs, but we talked about
some cards that she was helping a friend, a friend,
you know, they they'd found some vintage.
Speaker 2 (01:01:36):
What are we going to do with them? How do
we organize them? Should I slap them? So I was
kind of able to kind of get her on the
right track.
Speaker 4 (01:01:44):
So she could keep investigating and find how she could
you know, where to go from there. And so you know,
always like I said, throw me a DM or reach out,
reach out through one of those channels. The Rebel Base
card is on you know, Apple Podcasts or Spotify. You
can find me on YouTube because we do put the
(01:02:06):
podcast on YouTube. I know I do have some listeners
that we'll just throw have YouTube up and we'll be
there as well. We do a little bit of everything,
and so not only to talk about cards but collecting.
Greg Cass and I do the breakfast Back shows where
we like yourselves, we talk about the new releases coming up. Yeah,
it's a bunch of fun. Anthony from fours Cost Conversations

to talk about d twenty three our destination d twenty three.

good stuff.

computer in the feeds and into somebody's ears, I'm doing
my job.

Speaker 3 (01:04:30):
He's taking the dead jac Hey, he's come, he's come
to play. I know what show him on exactly. So
of course, you know, we we we can't end this
with doubt our traditional Star Wars dad joke of the week.
