who was found alive after two daysalone in the woods. Join us.
Three year old Riker Webb wandered awayfrom the family home while playing with his
(00:21):
dog on Friday, June third, twenty twenty two, south of Troy,
Montana. Authorities were contacted by neighborsafter hearing the parents of the boy shouting
his name for over two hours. When police arrived on the scene, the
parents explained that they had been searchingfor a young Riker for two hours to
no avail. Search and rescue teams, along with K nine units, helicopters,
(00:43):
drones, ground aerial and medics allresponded to the area, although a
helicopter was forced to return to basebecause of worsening weather conditions. The following
day, the search resumed, hisweather and cooperated and the helicopter as well
as the drone were able to assistin the search effort. Neighbors were asked
checked their homes, outbuildings, andany other structures on their property, whether
(01:04):
worse than though as the day wenton, creating a low visibility for the
drone and the helicopter. Brown crewswere forced to do much of the search
because the low hanging cloud cover andpersistent raining conditions. This area is very
densely packed with vegetation and a lotof overgrowth, forcing ground crews to slow
their pace. A total of fiftythree search and rescue crew members joined the
(01:26):
search on the third day, asthere had been no progress made. They
covered the mountain area miles into thewilderness in an attempt to locate the child
before the weather conditions worsened again.Just as it was felt all hope was
lost, though, a call overthe communications system reported a child found near
Pine Ridge Road, close to SouthFork Bull River. Against all odds,
(01:49):
three year old Riker Webb was foundalive on day three of the search.
The team responsible for finding the youngsterreported that he was fine, other than
possibly looking a little worse to wearand being hungry, thirsty, and cold.
It seems as the child told theinvestigators that he simply went for a
walk with his dog and got tired. The resourceful little fellow found a shed
(02:12):
and took shelter from the weather. The family checking on their cabin found the
child earlier that day and learned authoritiesthe shed was roughly two miles from Riker's
home. The shed housed a generatorfor a hunting cabin. The family that
owns the cabin were there checking ontheir retreat, and it seems as they
didn't know a child was missing inthe area. Imagine their surprise when they
(02:34):
heard a small child's voice coming fromthe shed. They went to investigate and
found Web hiding. He was visiblyshaken, stated Lincoln County Sheriff Daron Short.
He was very very scared. Bears, mountain lions, and other wildlife
and habit the area and are activethis time of year. The weather it
was also an issue the entire time. Rescue crews were searching for the boy,
(02:55):
as several thunderstorms rolled through the area. Temperatures got into the low forties,
and the area where Webb sought shelterwas an old, drafty shed.
They think he may have slept inor on a lawnmower bag for warmth,
and had possibly been at the cabinsince Friday, when he was first reported
missing. Riker Webb was taken toCabinet Peaks Medical Center for valuation, but
(03:17):
has since been released. To hisparents. The case remains open, however,
due to investigators needing to question theparents on several issues from the time
Riker went missing. Police intend toask the parents why two hours had passed
before Rikers reported missing, and alsowhy the parents hadn't called before then,
and why the child wasn't being watchedmore closely. Search teams who were apparently
(03:39):
able to follow clues little Riker leftalong the path he took on his way
up the mountain. Sheriff Short statedthe crews were able to make those areas
and used ATVs to reach areas whereit was impossible to get other equipment.
Rikers said to like bugs, andsearchers noticed several rocks overturned on the path
they were following. It looked asthough someone was looking for bugs. Short
(04:01):
stated. Riker was found wearing ablue onesie with holes in the toes and
feet. Ricker Webb was happy tobe reunited with his parents now. Just
as a side note here, whenRiker was reported missing, the description of
the parents gave us to his clothingwas incorrect, as reported by news albums.
Also, according to Lincoln County SheriffDarren Short, media reporting on the
(04:25):
case wrongly stated initially Riker Webb's ageat four years old, but corrected the
age to three in a following statementlater the first day he was missing.
So what do you think of thisstrange case. There's been a lot of
unusual comments on social media. Ilook forward to what y'all have to say,
but please keep it friendly and respectful. Till we meet again. Be
(04:47):
good to yourselves and each other. As for me, I'll see a little
further on down the trail. I'mSteve Stockton and I'll talk to you next time.
