Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hello, and welcome back to the show. Well, now I
want to take a look at a show that is
currently on at Melbourne's Spiegel House. This is Blanca de
Blanc Encore, which is a show which has been around
Australia but is absolutely wowing Melbourne audiences at the moment.
And it's described as vintage French glamour mixed with world

(00:27):
class circus music and edge of your seat entertainment. And
I also throw comedy in there as well, because this
is a very very funny show as well. I've got
to say it's MC'd by Felix Pullet and Emil Mathu,
who do an absolutely great job at the comedy, ranging

(00:50):
from the extreme kind of acts of being able to
mix music and film quote and things like that together
with amazing physical comedy right through to the old school
almost Benny Hill style comedy where it's things like somebody

(01:11):
coming out on stage with their with their testicles out
and things like that. And these two are genuinely funny
and they keep you laughing all night as they keep
on coming back to the stage in between various acts.
As well. There is a little bit of audience participation
with them as well, but it's nothing too extreme. It's
nothing that's going to make you feel horribly uncomfortable or

(01:34):
anything like that. And even to the point where one
of the guys that got brought out out of the
audience last night was called Darryl, and he was having
a ball. You could tell that he was really enjoying
being able to get up on stage. I'm sure they
are the kind of guys too that if you kind
of like waved them away and said no, that you
didn't want to get up, they wouldn't make you get up.

(01:56):
I don't think they're that kind of guys, so, but
there is some audience interaction there, so I will warn
you if you're someone that doesn't like that, then maybe
this isn't the show for you. But I will preface
that by saying that they're not going to make you
do anything uncomfortable or anything like that. So it's all
going to be absolutely fine. Now. The rest of the

(02:17):
cast all do absolutely amazing, amazing things as well. I'll
go through some of the cast for you and talk
a little bit about what they do. So Felix, that
I already mentioned, he's also a Canadian circus artist, so
he comes back occasionally and does some of his own

(02:40):
things as well. Australian dancer Melanie Hawkins, who has been
in things such as Jesus Christ Superstar and Rocky Horror.
She does an amazing job as one of the as
one of the burlesque dancers, and again you can tell
that she's having a lot of fun with what she's
doing as well. One of the stars of the show

(03:02):
is Ukrainian talent Mikalio Maka a Rovak and I've probably
destroyed his name by saying that, but he is a
double jointed contortionist. Won't give away too much about what
he does, but he's part of the show. Is one

(03:22):
of those ones where you kind of you want to watch,
but you want to look away as well, just because
of how double jointed he is and some of the
things that he does and his skills were actually showcased
at the Paris Olympic Games. So yeah, big qu to
be able to bring him across here for a show

(03:43):
here in Melbourne and he does an absolutely amazing job
with that as well. There's also UK aerialist Daniel Summers
as well, who does some absolutely amazing performances, not only
as part of the burlesque side of the show, but
also also with some aerial things on the pole, which

(04:07):
is absolutely amazing what she is absolutely able to do.
In fact that she's part of the big finale and
again I won't ruin what they do for a finale,
but it's just absolutely mind blowing. Also part of that
finale is Flynn Miller, an Australian performer from Tasmania, again

(04:29):
does some absolutely amazing stuff with a pole. I still
can't work out how he did some of the stuff,
but it's just absolutely amazing what he did. He also
takes part in a lot of the burlesque as well,
isn't frightened to throw on a dress and join in
for a bit of a comedy aspect of the burlesque

(04:51):
side of things as well. And then you've got Clara
as well, who doesn't absolutely the amazing job with the
singing side of the show. She's got an amazing voice
and it's very very easy to find yourself feeling like
you're being transported back to some French glamour bar mulin

(05:14):
rouge style in early Paris, and in fact the whole
the whole show has that vibe, and so does the
location as well, if you haven't been to Melbourne's Spiegel
House yet, it's kind of amazing. They've kind of turned
an old deserted car park and abandoned block into this

(05:35):
amazing arts precinct. There's a rooftop bar that's got amazing views,
and if you want to have a look at those views,
go and have a look at my Instagram subculture Dave,
because I've done I've put some photos of that up
there as well. But the venue itself is like a
big circus tent. It's comfortable, the seats are comfortable, you

(05:58):
get a great view wherever you sit basically, but it's
a classy I know some people you say circus tent
and they think the absolute worst, but it's actually really
really classy. You can take your drink in and it's amazing.
I can really see it becoming a really really important

(06:20):
venue here in Melbourne. So yeah, definitely go and check
that out, and even just going along there for the bar.
If you're not going to a show, go along to
the bar. I've got some great drinks there and it's
well worth it, like especially now that we're heading into
summer and you'll be able to sit on the rooftop
on those kind of balmy nights and share a drink.
But look, go along and see blank to blank, this

(06:41):
is encre It is an amazing show. It's one of
those shows where you can kind of go along with
your friends and have a little bit of fun. The
comedy is a little bit sexual, so if you're if
you've got a friend that's not into that, then maybe
don't take them. But look, it's a It's an amazing
show with an amazing talented group of artists that's all

(07:04):
been brought together. They all have their own personalities and
they all bring their own special skills to this show.
And just stunning. That's all I can say about the show.
Just stunning. Go along and check out Blunk de Blanc
Encore at Melbourne Spiegelhause, which is at two hundred and
seventeen Lonstyle Street in Melbourne. Go and check it out.
