People laugh at that girl, say it an uncanny knack.

And it's been going on for twenty two years. Think
about it, twenty two years making funnies. It's quite a
nice life. Big cars, three of them, big house two
of them, one in Palm Springs, one in Hollywood, money lots.
It's a nice life. But there's one problem. No one
takes me seriously. Harry molloy comic buffoon, clown, nothing else.
(06:26):
Even I began to believe it until the other day.
I set up a problem for myself. Harry, I said,
you make people laugh, how about making them cry?
Speaker 3 (06:34):
You create comedy.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
I said, now, let's see if you can create a tragedy.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
So I planned it and I just did it. I
pushed the.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Girl named Rosalie off a cliff. She had a mom
and pop, they'll cry. That's very tragic.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
You know.

The next couple of days I felt great, You know,
the feeling you set your mind to do something and
you do it and you tell people about it, But
how are you going to tell anybody? You just pushed
the girl off a cliff. Then something else happened. It
was the third day after I did it. Not a
word in the papers about Rosalie. Her body hadn't been found.
So for a man like me, a performer for twenty

two years, you can understand the crack I was in.
Not only couldn't I tell anyone what I did, no
one even knew it was done.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
So that evening I didn't feel so good. I had
to talk to someone I always talked to. Liz.
Speaker 5 (07:35):

That was Sunday evening. Monday morning, A very large thing
happened in my life. It was served to me for
breakfast with my eggs. The morning newspaper had it headlined
girl washed up on beach at Malibu. Girl identified as
Rosalie Barton, missing.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
From home for four nights.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Identification by our mother and father, street address given. The
part that would never get in the papers, of course,
was why it happened, which was me, Harry Malloy, creator
of tragedy.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
I had to go see for myself.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Rosalie Barton lived in a cheap, little California bungalow, one floor,
one palm tree, a geranium bed that needed watering.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
One thing was funny, though.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
Have you ever noticed the audience a tragedy gets, especially.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
When it's for free. Well, a Barton house didn't have it.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
They should have been all over the lawn, onto the pavement, neighbors, kids,
the people who hop in their cars and come from
all over the city. They're looking in on tears, but
no nobody around. I parked my car a couple of
blocks away and walked to the house, up the path,
onto the porch near the window.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
I looked under the drawn window blind.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
To see what I was looking for, hysterical.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
Parents, bewildered, grief stricken.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
But I only saw a room, no people, And I
saw this near the window, a high boy, and on
it a picture of the dead girl looking at me
and smiling at me.
Speaker 7 (11:56):
I looked too, I couldn't see anything.
Speaker 6 (11:57):
Huh.
Speaker 7 (11:58):
They're still at the funeral part of her mother and father.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
They must be very upset. Huh.
Speaker 7 (12:02):
Now they're taking a real good I live right next
door and I came over to see him last night,
and they're taking it real wonderful. Didn't even cry? M Hey, yeah,
not you, Harry Malloy.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, What do you mean your parents didn't cry?
Speaker 7 (12:18):
Well, aren't you.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Sure you were? Didn't they love their own daughter? Why
didn't they cry?
Speaker 7 (12:22):
Well, if they did, nobody's son. Hey, what are you

didn't you. He said, if you don't mind, mister molloy,
I'd like ten pennies.

I said why.
Speaker 1 (14:18):

So I gave him six pennies. Let him drink it
without cream.

Even I began to believe it until the other day.
I set up a problem for myself. Harry, I said,
you make people laugh, how about making them cry?

So I planned it and I just did it. I

word in the papers about Rosalie. Her body hadn't been found.
So for a man like me, a performer for twenty

one even knew it was done.

Identification by our mother and father, street address given. The
part that would never get in the papers, of course,
was why it happened, which was me, Harry Malloy, creator
of tragedy.

Rosalie Barton lived in a cheap, little California bungalow, one floor,
one palm tree, a geranium bed that needed watering.

When it's for free. Well, a Barton house didn't have it.

all over the city. They're looking in on tears, but
no nobody around. I parked my car a couple of
blocks away and walked to the house, up the path,
onto the porch near the window.

I looked under the drawn window blind.

To see what I was looking for, hysterical.

Parents, bewildered, grief stricken.

it a picture of the dead girl looking at me
and smiling at me.
