Speaker 1 (00:00):
What in your opinion, Guys, when you're watching a movie,
does ever the significant other of one of the main
characters ever like annoy you let me just do classic.
Let's look at Rocky for example.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Oh, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
She looked miserable the entire fucking like, it doesn't matter
what movie was, one, two, three, She's miserable throughout the
entire the entire movie the worst, I would agree, Yeah,
I mean then even when and then when.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
They go to Russia to train for the Christmas Eve matchup,
she doesn't even like cook his food. She just sits
there and watches him.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
She doesn't even go does she goes? She shows up?
Speaker 2 (00:49):
You can't win?
Speaker 4 (00:50):
Like, what a pain in the ass?
Speaker 3 (00:53):
What ass be a positive spouse? There to be a supportive.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
On the subject. I was recently kind of like scrolling
through and you get these.
Speaker 5 (01:03):
Pop ups, these stupid little articles that you know while
you're while you're sitting sitting on the crapper.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
On the can.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
The article was like wives and movies that were way
too hot for their husbands, right, and the number one
example would be like that movie the Other Guys with
Will Ferrell.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Yeah he was married to Mendez.
Speaker 6 (01:23):
You know, what I mean, like where is just like
you know Marissa Tomey from uh, you know her when
she was in that one movie with my cousin Vinny,
Like she was so much.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Honored than that freaking little dude, right he was.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
She was like twenty five and he was like for
it was just.
Speaker 7 (01:40):
A series of like you know a movie your wife
was way too hot for the dude literally out kicking
your coverage. Molly and I say that all the time,
like even in real life, will be like whoa man
Like We'll be said, We'll be out.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
To dinner and we'll be like if the sto together
who he out kicks his coverage on that one?
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Hey and somebody who outkicked their coverage? I can h
I know one's.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Likes me and the other of that. Right now, let's
break down Marsa tome real quick.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Now, was there any better character in the world that
my cousin Vinnie mer Tom did right there?
Speaker 3 (02:12):
Mon v wasn't not her name?
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Monav? Is that.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
I mean Marissa tome A great great cameo in Seinfeld?
Speaker 5 (02:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:26):
I think that was performance.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
George.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
How could you be so stocky and so bald and
so available and wasn't he still engaged.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
Well, I'm kind of engaged.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Oh, she is so hot in that movie. She is
so smart in that movie. She's Oh, she's just amazing
in that movie.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Here's another one that that looks like her. Could be
a look alike. They could be long lost sisters. How
about Lorraine Brocco in uh in Goodfellas Henry Hill's wife.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
Yeah, she was. She's right up there with a She
she was right up there with Adrian.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
She was, you know, back in the day like when uh,
when Laota was was bringing her in and bringing up
her uh her to the front front row to all
those musical stars.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
And yeah, they walked in ball er move. God.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Yeah, they walked in through the back door, through the
kitchen and everything. Hey, little little known fact, Pat, did
you know that that was the first time that kind
of camera shot was ever done in a movie where
they actually had the camera movie like following the people
the entire time. Yeah, that was that was like groundbreaking
on that type of cinematography.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
Getting But you're right.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
She knew what she was getting into, she knew what
the lifestyle was all about. But she never would play along.
And all she did was just whine and moan and
bitch and complain about, you know about Henry being gone,
and I mean he was out like Robin airplanes that
JFK and stuff.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
But here here's my question.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Yeah, she knock it off right because she wasn't pious.
She was smoking. She was a snorting coke too. It's
not like she wasn't like she was part of that problem. Like, yeah,
he had a love interest on the side that was
like cooking it and bagging it and all that stuff, right, Like,
I mean Henry's wife she was.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
She was snorting it too. I mean, she was all
part of that booger sugar. She was on that.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
So have you seen the movie just on Netflix about
six months ago called The Gentleman with Matthew McConaughey and
his wife in it. She kind of she does such
a tremendous job of this movie. It's it's sort of
like a gegster movie, but it's a little comedy, it's
a little action, it's a little mafia stuff.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Highly recommend.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
But his wife in the movie is a British actress
named like Michelle Doherty or something, and she.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Does an amazing job. It's a really good flick. I
highly recommend.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
I've seen this, But Martin, I don't know what the
hell you're talking about. Go back to your list. What's
on that list?
Speaker 2 (04:58):
A lot of them kind of like one of them
was on let me go back. I'm gonna find it.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Shoot, what did we Stallone and Bridget Nielson ever in
a movie together?
Speaker 5 (05:15):
I mean they weren't. I don't know if they were
love interests in a movie. They have been in some
weird movie called Cobra or something.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
I think so, Yeah, Cobra was a great movie. Hey,
here's the one for you. You talk about wives, now,
now which way are we going? Are we saying ones
that were annoying? Or wives that were too hot and
out kicking Cocher?
Speaker 2 (05:35):
That's gone down both roads.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
But I'm okay.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
I would tell you right now when you think of
a TV show, and this is a weird one that
popped into my head, Claire Huxtable, how did how was
she matched up with Bill Cosby and The Cosby Show?
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Two were two words to three words. He's a doctor. Okay,
well he's a doctor. He's a fucking doctor.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
So those doctors they could do some amazing things, right,
But yes, old flea.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
She was shod. I mean she's she was a looker
back in the day.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
You see with you ever see her monitor shod? Like
at the wedding and the like. He's got a picture
of Simpson.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
So, speaking of speaking of TV moms, you know who
I talk about?
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Milk crushes?
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Oh god, what's the growing pains? Yes, the growing pains mom?
Speaker 4 (06:32):
What was her name? Maggie? Oh my lord, I would
I would dig through her dirty laundry. Oh my, she
was right?
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Now, what's her.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
I was pretty sure you were going to say a
least Keaton from Family Ties, That's what I thought.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
No, you know, I mean, she was, she was, she was.
She was a great mom. Joe Joanna Karns.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Oh my god. You know who else is that show?
A young Leo DiCaprio.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Yes, Lea DiCaprio. He was the neighbors kid.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
What do you the neighbor? Yeah? Or yeah?
Speaker 3 (07:10):
I think he was the neighbor's kid. Did they adopt
him or something?
Speaker 4 (07:13):
Something? Something weird like that. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Hey, what about what about?
Speaker 8 (07:17):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (07:18):
What about Marky Post and night Court?
Speaker 4 (07:20):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Yeah, yeah, she she was, she was wrong.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
Help me.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
She helped me through puberty.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Like circu nineteen eighty eight. Yeah, seven eighty eight.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
Yeah, I don't feel like so.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Like back in the day when I was like fifteen whatever,
I would have to seduce Johanna currents Akaa, Maggie sever
I would have to seduce her. I feel with Markey
Posts like she would attack me and it would be on,
Like it would just be on, Like she would be
one of those things where I'd be clerking for her
and she'd be like hey, and then she'd be wearing
a leather skirt and like, hey, I don't have any
(07:55):
bubble guns?
Speaker 4 (07:56):
Do you have any? And I'd be like, no, doesn't happen.
Speaker 9 (07:58):
She wanted to stick a talking about.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
You've thought about this a little too enough, just popped up.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
I just thought about it. That just thought about it.
Speaker 10 (08:06):
Welcome to Tales from the Script, a bad app Cincinnati
high school sports podcast that features local coaches and athletes.
Speaker 9 (08:15):
You are your.
Speaker 10 (08:15):
Hosts, Brett Schneeber, Pat O'Connor, and Martin Eisley.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
Okay, Fellas we are at the time of recording roughly
forty eight hours from the start of the twenty twenty
four football season, and for everybody's listening, enjoyment. We're not
going to try to surprise anybody tonight. And who our
guest is. In all reality, our guest is kind of
(08:56):
royalty on this program because he's the first, not only
two time guests, he is now a three time guest.
He is the he is the content manager and featured
analyst for Tri State Football. You know who he is,
all the royal listeners who have listened in the past.
He is Greg Shoemaker from Tri State football dot Com.
Welcome in, gret guys.
Speaker 9 (09:18):
It's a pleasure to always be with you. It's it's
a fun time. And uh man, another season, another season,
and this one starts off as good as it gets
one versus two and three verses four x and not
with sal and or, I mean st X and Lakota West, and.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
I mean are made years ahead of time, right, I mean,
this wasn't something that you know, anybody put together six
months ago because they knew these teams were going to
be good. That's a pretty hell of a good first
one week, first week, right out of the gate, one, two, three, four.
Speaker 9 (09:52):
And the beauty of it is they're also deep with experience.
I mean good Mueller's loaded. I mean I don't care
what anybody says. I went out and saw Princeton. They
are thick and big. Defensively, they got ten guys that
can interchange in that front seven. Uh, they're gonna they
were good last year, only gave up eleven points a game.
(10:12):
They're gonna be just as good, if not better, this
year defensively.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
How many dudes are they saying they have are getting
D one offers just on their defense, like.
Speaker 9 (10:21):
Like ten or something. It's ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Yeah, I think I read somewhere, whether it was on
Tri State Football or not, but I think eight of
the eleven have Division one offers on the defense alone.
So that's that's saying something right there. You know, you
just look at it and talk a little bit about
that matchup with with them and the Bowler Crusaders.
Speaker 9 (10:43):
Yeah. So Moeller's offense is fantastic. They got all their
offensive linemen back. Panatowski's only a junior, but this kid's
this kick and throw. I mean, he can sling it
with the best of them that we've seen.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
He's been starting since his freshman year.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
So you.
Speaker 9 (11:01):
Guy, this guy just got in trouble. But you guys
will remember Archi Sleaster, remember that guy when he was
in high school in college. When he was in high school,
he was a stud and and sort of Ponatowski sort
of liked that in that just about anywhere he wants
to put the ball with the confidence that he has,
he can do it. And that's man, it's a special trade.
(11:22):
And I think this kid's gonna be something to watch
even without uh Marshall. That team's gonna be fun offensively
now defensively, man, Princeton, like I said, they can get
after it. And this quarterback they have Birch. Watch out
for this cat. He has gotten bigger and stronger. And
the one thing he didn't do as a sophomore was
turned the ball over. And that's why he ended up
(11:42):
having such great stats and he had such a great year.
He could just keep them in the game long enough
for that defense to spoil things. And that defense isn't
gonna be on the field very long at all in
most games.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
That's the best defense, the one that sits on the
sideline and is Martin to tell you it. The one
thing I always stressed to our offense, other than wins
and losses, the number one to me, the only stat
that matters is turnovers, and if you don't turn the
ball over on the offensive.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Side of the ball, you have a really.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
Good chance to be successful.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Yeah, so shoot shoe, who do you think wins that
on them? Moeller's offense or Princeton's defense.
Speaker 9 (12:20):
I think Princeton at a home game, and there's still
number one. They got a lot to prove. Man, if
you look at the hierarchy of Division one football right now,
it's sort of crazy how it lays out. And Princeton
hasn't broken into that hierarchy, and that hierarchy all has
their hunger to get to the next level. Saint E's
has won three straight Division one championships. They've beaten Springfield
(12:41):
and all three of those championship games. Springfield's beaten Moeller
in the last three of those championship games, Mueller's beating
Lakota West in the last the last three regional final
championship and so and then there's Lakota West or I'm
sorry it was Princeton who can't get over Lakota West
in the playoffs. Turnovers by the quarterback first in the
(13:02):
turn and against the Western the tournament. That was the
undoing to Princeton. That's where they got to get over
that hump, and then you know, and then it's a
big client after that because they're once you've been there,
you know this one LaSala was good. When you've been there,
that next group understands how to win that next group
of seniors. And if those sophomores are playing, that's an
added bonus. And that's what all those teams have in
(13:23):
front of Princeton. What's the playoff start Those kids that
are now seniors that were sophomores and have been through
all of it, all those every one of those playoff
games means something special and that's what Princeton's hurdle's biggest
hurdle is and if they can overcome it, they will
be one of the great teams that we've seen in
a long time.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
And you talk about those playoff games, I don't think
people understand the value of the number of practices you
get and the development that comes in when you're playing
all the way up till close to Thanksgiving and those
sophomores are still out there practicing, going against seniors who
are starting, and that's just helps in the development of it.
(14:01):
And so now those kids who are coming in and
they're they're getting ready to play as juniors. They're not
truly like a fresh junior. They've had so many more
practices under their belt. And I think that's going to
go a long way for you know you you as
you look at the Lakota West of the Molars and
and those types of programs, right, you said the.
Speaker 9 (14:22):
Best when you get those reps, those many more reps
in practice against the ones. When you're sophomores, that game
slows down to you. When you're a junior, You're you're
looking at a totally different and Patrick, you know this.
With Brady, I can tell you right now that game's
will look so much better to him this year as
a senior because he's had two years of experience at
it three three yeah yeah yeah, freshman letterman too.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Yeah yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:47):
So I'll say this. I'm just gonna talk my mind.
This might sound controversial or this to somebody, and this.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
Is going to be really controversial.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
You better, this is gonna shoe get ready? What did
you vote for? Who did you vote for? The primaries? Yes,
let's go, let's get there. How do you feel like,
let's let's get there.
Speaker 9 (15:11):
I'm going.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
Are you watching the d n C today, Go.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
Ahead, so GMC right, they're they're playing a non conference
game week one and Princeton's got Moler, Corran's got sou
West has got st X, great matchups all the way around, right.
I think once Princeton gets past Week one, I don't
know if they're challenged for.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
The rest of the year other than when they when
they play Lakota West.
Speaker 5 (15:39):
Right when they do get to the playoffs, I don't
think that's good for them. I don't think they're going
to be tested, or they're not going to have that
experience of playing in a bunch of closely contested games
where they're just getting beat up and you know, it's
like they're playing from behind now for the first time
in the playoffs. I don't like that about their schedule,
(15:59):
and I think that hurt some of these teams that
aren't challenged throughout the course of the regular season.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Does that make sense?
Speaker 1 (16:04):
So I'm glad we got Try State football on here
to analyze this because my thought before Shoe weighs in
here is I think football has changed so much.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
It's such a health thing.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
I don't know, Martin, Yeah, they're going to be tested maybe,
and if they were playing some other you know, and
a tougher conference.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
Is if that's your point and.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
They're going to be healthy, No, no you're not.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
You're not.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
But I feel like your point is is it better
to play against tough competition or is it or go
into the playoffs healthy? I think the latter. I think
it's better to going healthy. Shoe the conscience yours literally, yeah,
I mean.
Speaker 9 (16:41):
There's no doubt about it. I mean, look at the
teams now, you know you say that. Look at the
teams that have been there before. They understand how to
make sure those kids get in and out of the
third and fourth quarters. Right, your your first stringers, let's
play that back up those those sophomores that they are
now juniors, Let's play them a little bit fourth quarters.
They can do that. They understand how to pace. And
(17:03):
that's again, Mark, you make a great point. Come playoff time,
are they gonna have enough to pace themselves like the
other schools know how to do it? For six games?
You know, I mean that's Prince's only played twelve the
thirty years, they haven't played more than twelve games in
a season.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
I'll throw this out there, Okay, and this may be
an extreme example, but in two thousand and four, there
was not a running clock and Coleraine was not playing
their starters during the fourth quarter, and Martin, they weren't
being challenged on their schedule. Corey wasn't being challenged. And
that was the football team I've ever seen. That's what
(17:45):
point is talking about.
Speaker 9 (17:46):
That.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
But here's my thing.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
That's the same ay, same conference, same conference. And if
you're good, you're good. And if you can get get
up on teams and you can rest your guys, and
especially now with the running clock in the second and half,
you can you can keep your team if you have
a great first half, and as soon as you get
up thirty, you can keep your team really really fresh.
(18:09):
And the fewer reps that and those reps accumulate over
the year too, And that's what. Yeah, that's what people
need to understand. So Martin, I agree with I think
it's a great argument.
Speaker 5 (18:18):
I just think there's a lot to be said for
playing under pressure and how that is going to like
just build you mentally, It's gonna.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Build iron I mean, pressure makes diamonds, right.
Speaker 9 (18:30):
I will say this. I will say this, I think
the worst thing that GMC and the ECC did. Let's
go to nine game conference schedules. Now you've got the
g WALK who's got seven games, and they need to
play those games, and our school should be playing those.
And if the ECC's got six Division one teams, now,
I mean, you can say what you will about the GMC.
That's our third that's heck, they're they're on an equal
(18:53):
par right now with the g WALK. I mean, there's
no doubt about it.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
Well, shoo, while we're while we're on the topic of
the e CC. You brought that up up, Let's look
at Winton Woods because they they're one of the three
teams that moved out of Region eight up in the
Region four, moving from Division two up to Division one.
You know a little bit about about Winton Woods. I
know you talked to coach Murphy and he's done a
(19:18):
phenomenal job over there. How do you see them faring
not only during the season, but in the Division one
playoffs now, which is a different animal compared to the
Division two.
Speaker 9 (19:29):
Well, they can play at that level and they get
tested week one up at Springfield. So I mean, if
you want to start it off to me at all,
it's all on their quarterback. Bray Shawn Brown is a
nice player. He's six foot seven tall, but he's skinny
as a rail. He's got to hit his passes. But
the thing about that is he doesn't need to beat
(19:52):
other teams. They have got a big offensive line and
Garrett and Gooding, those two running backs are pretty good.
And I got another kid behind them that they really
like to Montgomery life, so they could be a three
headed monster in the backfield. And since Murphy's been at
Winton Woods, when he has three really confident running backs,
they're really good. And then they made a really great
run into the to the title with three really good
(20:15):
running backs that one year. And you know it's funny.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
Oh yeah, we know.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
I know, definitely.
Speaker 9 (20:21):
So I mean I think that's where if you can
get them in a situation where the quarterback has to
throw the football and you can put pressure on him,
that's when you've got a chance. At Winton Woods, their
defenses as fast as you get, I mean really good.
Now that said, you know, they're a team and it's
been trotwy Madison does the same thing. They're overly aggressive
(20:45):
in big games and they could have thirteen penalties for
one hundred and twenty five yards in a playoff game
and lose you know, a football field and a half
in yardage just in penalties, and that could kill them.
You know, sometimes it doesn't. But if they make a
couple of turnovers, they're due. So they got to play
very consistent football. I think they will. This group, that's
(21:05):
the seniors. They were there when this team won the championship.
Uh and a lot of them dressed and a lot
of them played in some meaningful games in LA that year.
So I think they'll be just fine in the in
the I see them as one of the final eight
teams in D one.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
So so here's their schedule.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
Say they open with Springfield, then they have Kings, Milford,
Turpin at Walnut Hills at Little Miami, Loveland, West Claremont,
Anderson Lebanon. So they got Anderson week nine, and they
got Milford and Kings back to backs in weeks two
and three.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
Springfield.
Speaker 5 (21:42):
Those are going to be their first three games out
of the Gator Springfield, Kings, and Milford. That's going to
be a pretty good, pretty good test for them. And
I wouldn't be surprised if they If they if they
get to that Anderson game with with no losses or
one loss, I mean, that's that's that's that's gonna be
fun to watch for sure.
Speaker 9 (21:59):
I will tell you this about Anderson. They are going
to be one of the best teams that you're gonna
see all year. Hey, they're gonna put points in the
board again. Another team that got transfers. They got two
kids for Percell Marion. One was a Division one player,
a first team a player in the state. And the
other kid ain't Uh Egbert is a six foot four inch,
(22:20):
two hundred and fifteen pound defensive end and now he's
going to be playing at a faster speed. He's going
to be good. And the two sophomores on defense, they're fantastic.
That team's going to be fun to watch.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Should talk a little bit about the transfers. Is this
is this probably and as we progress and you know,
you know, everything is changing in the world of high
school sports.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
Is this there? You seeing this more year in and
year over.
Speaker 9 (22:48):
Yeah, I'm also seeing so like Anderson's got a kid
that was at Simon Kenton last year running back ran
for fourteen hundred yards. We saw him against Beechwood last
year just was phenomenal and they got him to replace
that brody bird kid and his parents wanted to move
into the district for a better opportunity for him. We're
(23:09):
starting to build super teams. And I was talking with
Troy Troy Everheart, the old Winton Woods coach, back in April.
It was up there at Troy and did an interview
with him, and he says, we're building super teams. He goes,
that's what wind Woods now is. He goes, that's what
Middletown's on their way there now too. So with Roe
is starting to be that way. You know, it's it's
(23:31):
this open this open enrollments changed a lot of stuff.
But that said, like Anderson's not open enrollment. They're they're
they're getting athletes now that want to be in that
school district and people are moving there. I guess you
can't find affordable housing over there, because I would, you know,
I mean, that's that's a pretty nice little area.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
No doubt, no doubt, wonderful community.
Speaker 9 (23:54):
Yeah, So let's go through.
Speaker 5 (23:56):
I'm going to read off the Tri State Football the
SE preseason Top twenty five.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
We talked about Princeton. You guys have them ranked one
and Molar two. Talked a little bit about them.
Speaker 5 (24:08):
You got Lakota West ranked third right now and X four,
let's touch on that matchup between Lakota West and sant
X they played each other Week one, man a Tom
Bolden specs special week one right out of the gate, right,
How many classic showdowns have we seen between those two
programs over the years.
Speaker 4 (24:26):
Hey, mar fifth?
Speaker 3 (24:27):
Yeah, go ahead, Greg Martin?
Speaker 4 (24:29):
How many?
Speaker 3 (24:30):
How many times have they matched up?
Speaker 4 (24:31):
Greg?
Speaker 9 (24:33):
Twenty five? This is the twenty fifth matchup Bolden. He's
at thirteen to eleven needed overall, five and five in
the playoffs, So unbelievable. This, I mean, there's nothing special.
I mean, you know, in Week one, they're gonna look
at Faust and Mancuso the Princeton mol or the old
school thing. And I talked to Mancuso several years back
(24:53):
and he was talking about how great the bold This
is probably five years ago. I talked to Mancuso and uh,
he was talking about how great it is is to
see spect and Bolton. I mean just it's just it's
just classic. And you know what you're gonna get, You're
gonna get hard knots s flip on somebody's gonna make
one mistake and the coach is gonna be happy afterwards,
and everybody else is gonna be you know, you know
(25:17):
Fort and Rainbow. So this is gonna be awesome.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Yeah, I got a prediction. The score is going to
be somewhere seventeen thirteen, fourteen to ten. Something. Yeah, I
don't know who's gonna win.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
I think exactly. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
I mean, you go back and look at those those
games over the years. It's always coming down to the
last drive of the game. It's fourteen to ten, somebody's driving.
They've got to convert from you know, fourth and seven
from the from the twenty two yard line to keep
the game alive. And it's it's only classic.
Speaker 5 (25:55):
Like we West has got the tight end, right, But
I mean, who are the who are the guys that
are going to be touching the ball and who we're
going to have the stats in this matchup?
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Tell me about each of these squads.
Speaker 9 (26:05):
Yeah, So Breton Johnson, the running back from Lakota West,
he's he's a junior. He's got to offers from about
six or seven schools a baseball stud to uh, got
as good a chance of being a baseball player as
he does a football player, nice solid guy. Uh, he's
going to get the boat ball of the carries for
West Whiles. The quarterback ran for five hundred yards last
(26:25):
year and six touchdowns, so he can run the ball
a little bit. We're getting a sophomore in Kenyon's I
can't remember his last name. He was on the four
by four hundred relay team and he ran the third
leg of that for them. Really fast guys going to
compliment Johnson. Johnson's more of a stocky. Uh, come come November.
He's yes the guy you're going to have half the ball.
(26:47):
But he's going to get his carries early on and
get his his He's gonna be a good one offensively.
That's their guys defensively. Norman Norman, Yes, yeah, So they're
looking at him as being a compliment to Johnson. So
and they got two offensive linemen, their centers back, who's
(27:07):
the first teamer, and they got to tackle back. So
they're gonna be fine on offense. Defensively, I think they're
front four. You know, they had Elijah Davis last year.
He's gone. They got to figure out who's going to
replace him. That uh Giordano kid from transfer from Fenwick.
He's going to Bowling Green. He's sixty six, two sixty.
(27:27):
This is the speed of Division one, going to be
a lot faster than he's He'll be able to catch
up to here at West in the first couple of weeks.
Maybe makes a bigger impact as the season goes on.
But yeah, soan Bierman can cover it. Camp Thomas is
another linebacker there really can cover it from side to sideline.
He's a junior. He's the next up and coming what
(27:49):
he'll and Nelson word last year in the junior class.
Cam Thomas is going to be that linebacker in this
class behind him this year showing his stuff as a junior.
Saint X Man, I love the Volmer kid. I love
Catus up front. I think they're gonna be fine up
front there. Here's where I'm at. I like hurd Street,
(28:11):
I like Herd Street, but I'm not I mean, he's
been very pedestrian in his two years as quarterback, and
I want to I just wait and see something. I
thought i'd see something by midyear last year from him
that would take him to the new level. I really
thought he was gonna come out a preseason as one
of the guys that really took off in camps before
last season, and he really didn't show any of that leadership,
(28:35):
and so Volmer gives him a different option at quarterback.
Jacoby clapper Man defensively, and he may play some offense
this year. That kid's stud there in the junior class.
Two again in the junior class. He's gonna be a
hybrid safety linebacker this year, so he'll cover a lot
of ground. You're gonna see him a lot in that
licild game. He is going to cheat all over the
(28:56):
place against you guys.
Speaker 4 (28:59):
Yeah, seems like gonna athlete.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
No doubt.
Speaker 5 (29:02):
And you know Saint X is gonna be Saint X.
They're gonna have They're gonna have ten linemen up front.
They're gonna have a second team as good as our
first team up front, and they're gonna have some tight
ends and they're gonna play that. And I think it's
a conservative brand of offense and just a lockdown, really
hybrid Amoeba style defense that you just don't know where
(29:24):
dudes are lined up and where they're coming from.
Speaker 9 (29:26):
Seems like they.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
Always have twelve players on the field, but I always count.
They don't. They're just gonna kid everywhere.
Speaker 8 (29:31):
Yeah, well here's what's gonna be different coverdale Yah, the
offensive forward neighbors and uh, Bloomer did tell me that
they're gonna sort of you didn't say, dumb it down,
but they're gonna make it more simple on the offense
this year and do the you know, and go back
to letting the defense take care of it and playing
(29:51):
short fields.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Yeah, Steve's gonna coach Specs went in up runing the offense,
and his his mo O is like, you just said,
let the defense dominate the game, and you do that
by shortening the game. As I mentioned earlier, the best
defense is the one that's on the sideline. Well, if
they have to take fewer reps because you run the
ball and you shorten the game, are running the clock.
(30:13):
That's what he wants to do. And they'll have a
really good offensive line and play with a couple of
tight ends and they're just going to try to jam
it down your throat, no doubt.
Speaker 5 (30:20):
It's always It's always reminded me of Jim Trussell style
Ohio State football, you know, and he won the national
championships there. So say, what's the one about the style
and how conservative it is. But you get a lot
of w's, they're not you know they're they're not racking
up all those wins for no reason.
Speaker 9 (30:36):
Look at look at Phaeramont. They're the perfect you guys
play him. Dave Nyler crap he was. He was a
Bob greg guy a Center Vale where he played there
and went and coached under him, then went to Covington
Man he was a small schools stunt of a coach,
and then comes to Fairmont who was nothing, and he
runs that same typical offense. You got to I mean,
(30:56):
you got to make them turn over and play before
by tim down or else you're gonna be in trouble
against them because you don't want them sticking around in
the fourth.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Quarter eight playing that offense, no doubt. Right after you've
got Anderson at five.
Speaker 5 (31:10):
We talked about them a little bit in Winton Woods
at number six, number seven in your top twenty five.
Looks like Cooper from from northern Kentucky. Yeah, talk to
me about them. What's Cooper got that I don't know about?
Speaker 9 (31:24):
So Cooper Cooper returns nine on offense and eight on
defense from a team that went to the state championship
game last year, only to lose to Bowling Green. They
beat Highlands in the in the playoffs, uh the Washington
Highlands in the regular season. Avenge that the thing about
the interesting thing is after you get out of the
what you would call, uh the sectional tournament in Kentucky,
(31:47):
after three rounds in Kentucky and the tournament, they receive
you now based on your Sagarine ratings or whatever their
their computer ratings are. So Highlands and Cooper in the
same the same class, the same district, in the same
division in northern Kentucky. But when they receiveed him, they
ended up playing each other in the state semi final
(32:08):
game for a chance to go to the championship last year,
and Hyland or Cooper beat him in a late field
goal attempt. And they got Austin Alexander over there, who's
a wide receiver, defensive end, outside linebacker. He is the
nephew of Shawn Alexander. He is going to North Carolina
six four to forty. It was funny because you guys
(32:31):
have seen Michael Mayer play. And I talked to coach
Borcher's over at Cooper last year. I asked him, I said,
you know, Michael Mayer's best player I've seen the last
twenty years. I said, what's the difference between him and Austin?
And they played the same position on offense, they played
put the same position on defense, and actually they don't.
On offense. Austin's more of a wide receiver and he
goes well, Austin's faster. So Austin's faster than Michael Mayer.
(32:55):
But that's the same sort of player. You're going to
get a guy who can play all over the field.
And here's the thing, Oh man, this is the new thing.
I'm I've seen now too. This Austin Alexander, he's going
to this training place in the in the off season.
This season, he didn't go to camps. These guys that
are seniors, they're getting their bodies ready for college, and
they're going to these Nevile's early facilities and all these
(33:16):
other trade This is a new thing. And these guys
that are going off to college, like Austin Alexander, he's
transformed his body, this Pavey kid at taff same way.
You know. It's just this is the new thing, and uh,
we're going to see some really talented super athletes out
here over the next five, four or five years, guys
like like I said, like Michael Mayer was good, like
(33:37):
this guy Austin Alexander. Wait till this is gonna be
a specimen out here. We'll see more and more of
this moving forward, not just one or two, like three
or four five on the team.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
Yeah, that that nevill training facility over north of Kentucky.
They're doing a phenomenal job. I know, Willie Rodriguez who
played it, played cuff caf and and he's going to
be in the mix down the UK this year. I
mean they're showing some of their social media. They've been
putting things out on him. And you talk about a
guy who transformed his body in the you know, in
the last year and everything. I mean, he looks like
(34:08):
a college athlete as a true freshman down at UK. So, yeah,
you gotta make a good point. And don't forget with
with Cooper. You got Cam O'Hara, a quarterback. He threw
for forty seven touchdowns last year. I don't care who
you are, what what program, at what level you throw
for forty seven touchdowns. Good lord, you've got to be
doing something right.
Speaker 9 (34:27):
Well, he goes heye, I got a plus forty touchdown
interception ratio last year.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
I mean, come on, that's that's ridiculous.
Speaker 9 (34:38):
Yeah, so he's good. And I say Johnson there at
the wide receiver, he's probably gonna go D two like
Thomas Moore. But uh, they got those guys and they're
really good.
Speaker 4 (34:46):
Now.
Speaker 9 (34:47):
I've heard Highlands is as big as they've ever been upfront,
so they'll challenge Cooper again in that five day It
was over a cup cap today actually, and talking with
Tony Bacha Galupa, the athletic director, and uh, he said,
we're gonna be We're just not You're like everybody else.
We're just not deep. I think our ones are good.
So you know, everybody's facing.
Speaker 4 (35:07):
It's it's interesting.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
She's interesting you say that, you know about not being deep,
and everybody says that. I think. I think there's something
to be said for the days now and the way
football has changed, athletics have changed. There's not as many
kids playing football is what there is what there were
back in the day. So now instead of having you know,
(35:35):
one hundred and one hundred and ten guys on your
team and you you know just their strength and numbers
no matter what you do, in life. All of a sudden,
now you got fewer guys, so you're going to have
fewer good players. And that's just the way it is.
So going back to what you know, Pat was talking
about earlier, it's a matter of staying healthy and and
you know, just just keeping your guys healthy, practicing differently
(35:58):
and being able to get to the get to the
postseason in good shape.
Speaker 9 (36:03):
These are in shape too, so they stayed better shape.
Remember we had conditioning. They don't condition like we used to.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
No, they they did less hitting for sure. So round
it up to top ten. I think you've got Elder
at eight, Hamilton at nine, and then East Central at ten.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
We're gonna go into Indiana. So talk a little bit
about those shoe.
Speaker 9 (36:23):
Yeah, so Elder's the biggest question. I'm just doing this
on respect for the program. Right now. They don't have
a lot of nomes coming back, so we'll see. Now
I've heard that they're not as big on defense as
they've they've been. This is one of the smaller teams
that Dud's had, but you know they're going to score points,
sort of like East Central. They lost a ton of stuff,
(36:46):
but again, kids whould have been to back to back
state titles as sophomores now get their chance to play
as seniors. We'll see what East Central has. But and
they move up to five A from four A. And
who was the other one in between there?
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Hamiltonmon?
Speaker 9 (37:02):
They can't the Big Blues good. They picked up that
kid from Fairfield. The wide receiver is going to Memphis
or I'm not Memphis. Where's he going going to one
of these schools? Oh, Kansas State. But they're gonna be good.
They got a lot. You know, when you get ten
kids back that were first team and second team of
All League, you know you're gonna end up having a
(37:23):
pretty decent year. And so I think that's why Hamilton's there. Now.
That said, if if Baiden beats them week one, man,
I'll be surprised. But I I have this feeling that
for some reason, Baiden's gonna have some luck of the
Irish and they're gonna win that game. Again.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
Baiden's got a great program rolling right now. I wouldn't
surprise me. That's a really good matchup right there.
Speaker 9 (37:48):
But you know, I want to bring this up, guys.
You know, Brett, you would know this as well as
I went about let's just say at the startle of
sALS Run, we would go on and say, you know what,
they're in that Division two team and the ECC that
can match a GMC team or a GCL team. And
now we look at a team like Benaden who last
(38:08):
year Division three being a Division one school, and a
lot of the Division four schools that are that are
like a Wyoming who compete with a Harrison or you know,
it seems like the best teams, you know, maybe the
super teams of what they are, but the fours, the
Division four teams can play with the best of the
Division two teams. And it's it wasn't like that ten
(38:30):
years ago. It wasn't like that at Law.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
And I think part of that, part of that goes
back to what I was just saying about depth. I mean,
if you can develop twenty two really good players and
your twenty two can compete against their twenty two, there's
not a lot of teams have that that crazy amount
of depth where they can just roll out, you know,
forty guys and just wear you down throughout the game,
(38:54):
and all it takes is a couple of difference makers.
And you know, Baden, you look at it right here,
I'm just read your right up. They've won thirty eight
consecutive regular season games. You're doing something right. You're coaching
your kids, well, you're developing them the weight room, You're
you're you're teaching them good schemes. You're putting them in
position to be successful. And you know, it wouldn't surprise
(39:18):
me at all. I mean, they beat they beat Hamilton
Big Blue last year, Hamilton went eight and four. It
wouldn't surprise me if they if they give them a
game again this year.
Speaker 9 (39:27):
I'm looking for the Bait and LaSalle tournament game because
they're moving up to D two. I think that would
be a good thing. I think I think it would
be a good thing if if Alder get you know so,
and you're like, this year, I think Alder could play
with Elder, uh, you know so, because they're they're stacked too.
But well, you know, but I want to see some
of that stuff. I want to see some more of
(39:48):
that GCL stuff in football, I think, because now more
than ever, I think it can happen because every once
in a while you're going to have these teams that
they can compete a little bit. And you know, it
sure would be a great draw. Sure would be a
great draw for some of these these schools.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
I think you have the big the probably one of
the most influential platforms you need to you need to
get a hold of the state of Ohio. And it
all comes down to the playoff system is what it is.
Because teams aren't willing to take on those games. And
that's the problem because of the way the playoff with
(40:23):
the Harbon points and everything. And we may have talked
about it on here in the past. I've I've always
been a big proponent of what Indiana does. Everybody makes
the playoffs, you know, and you have a you have
a sectional, an eight team sectional that you know who
you're going to play against. But what it does is
it gives you the ability to take risks, so to speak,
(40:45):
during the regular season and go and have you know,
have a Hamilton Baden, go play a sand X or whatever,
just insert whatever teams, but knowing that it's not going
to hurt you. And if you're a Division one team,
you're willing to play a Division three or fourteen if
they will play you, because you're not going to get
(41:06):
hurt in playoff points by playing a team from a
from a lower level. So it kind of works both ways.
And I think until we fix that, you're going to
keep seeing these nine game conference schedules, like we said
with the GMC and the ECC.
Speaker 9 (41:20):
Well here's an interesting point. I was up at the
High Press Sports Writers meeting the spring, and you get
up there and there's six districts, right, and we're a
little different. We're really balanced here in Southwest Ohio with
Division one, Like we're in the Southwest District, the Southeast
District where Chilicoffee and Portsmouth are, I think they only
have like one or two Division one teams. Everything else
(41:43):
is you know, lower. But you get a different perspective
as you go around, and I'm like, well, when we
expanded the playoffs to sixteen teams, I thought more teams
would take bigger risk and play, you know, like Kings
and Mason, let's have that game. Oh everybody listening, you know,
home away, those sort of games. Well, I've got to
listen to some of these other reporters and there's like, no,
(42:03):
we're not. These coaches have a mindset, No, why would
we play that. We want to get as many wins
as we can because now we can host a second
playoff game. So it's you're damned if you do if
you're damned if you don't in that situation. So, you know,
because an extra gate for you know, a place that
probably brings in five thousand, you know, you got seven
games now with you know, ten thousand dollars gates or
(42:26):
fifteen thousand whatever, twenty thousand dollar gates. So yeah, I
mean it's started to work, right. But Brett, you're right.
One thing about Indiana is by the time all those
kids are seniors, they've played for like three or four
extra games in the playoffs, there are at thirty you know,
four or five extra games in their careers. Again, snaps
and so forth.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
Yeah, well, we've talked a lot about the uh, you know,
the teams kind of we've kind of rolled down through
a lot of the teams here in the top twelve fifteen.
But what we haven't talked about are are some of
the smaller schools you just kind of mentioned. You know,
we're balanced here in in in southwest Ohio. We have
a good mix of Division one, Division two, Division three,
(43:09):
Division four, all the way down the Division five. Not
many six and seven schools talk to us about who's
going to stand out. Who you think is going to
stand out? Division three, Division four, Division five.
Speaker 9 (43:20):
Yeah, I mean, you know, Division four Region sixteen is
just loaded. It's got Indian Hill, Wyoming, Clinton, Massy, great
teams and again teams that could play with Division two
teams on any given Friday night. And I know I'm
missing a couple more. I think, uh Bacon's now four
to two. Uh and Bacon and Indian Hill play Week one.
Keep an eye on that game because you know, uh Percell,
(43:42):
Percell is on bad times and they're moving down to
Division six this year. But they had such a great
year in that that Miami Valley uh conference there and
that that big they're they're they're higher tiered league.
Speaker 1 (43:54):
But uh but what about mcnick? I like mcnick Yeah,
and that they are they four or five?
Speaker 9 (44:02):
They are three or no? They were down to four?
Speaker 4 (44:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (44:05):
I think they were one of those teams that went
down to four. Yeah yeah, uh so yeah, so they're yeah,
you know, good news bad news? So or no, did
they moved they moved up to three?
Speaker 3 (44:16):
Yeah, they're they're in three.
Speaker 9 (44:17):
They moved up to three. They got the good news
because everybody moved out of three, like Baden and everything else,
so they move up to three. So yeah, I think
mcnick's got so mcnick's got a bunch of kids that
were sophomores two years ago that are now seniors, that
have played and played a lot of winning games. But
one thing I like about mcnick is Dave Worth's over there,
Orlando's a coach over there, and Todd Nallman's a coach
(44:39):
over there. They got a good staff and it's sort
of in a really good situation. Turpen's not great, Anderson
is great, but uh, that whole area over there that
those kids have been playing ball against each other and
it's a good those three schools right now, a lot
of talent in their you know, eight through twelfth grade,
seventh eighth, twelfth grades.
Speaker 3 (45:02):
Yeah, you look at you. You mentioned uh, you mentioned
Region sixteen, Division four. I mean, I'm just kind of
rolling down through the through the list here. That thing's
always been a bad teams you forgot about. There are
Alter and Clinton Massey. I mean those are stalwarts that
have been in there for a long long time, and
that you also got Taft. I mean, Taft has argued
(45:25):
they have arguably as much talent as anybody in the
city and you talk about super teams. Somehow players always
end up playing at TAFT every year.
Speaker 9 (45:33):
Yeah, Tyler Williams does a good job there, the old
cool ring quarterback. He's he's his dad's one of those
guys's got for titness center. So those guys are training
there with him. And that's how they're sort of getting
those kids there that open enrollment. I don't know who
they have a quarterback this year. They're gonna be good.
I mean they got seven, eight, nine guys that have
(45:54):
D one scholarships. Tyler does a good job there, very
disciplined team, and they've one in the playoffs. Their next
goal is to get to the champion regional championship. They
have been. Are they they're.
Speaker 2 (46:07):
Full Division four four?
Speaker 4 (46:09):
Yeah? Four?
Speaker 9 (46:11):
So yeah, I forgot about TAP. They're they're they're absolutely
a stalwart there. And in that game, they played with Throw,
a Division two team, and they played them tough every
year and again a four to two matchup there that
is very competitive.
Speaker 5 (46:24):
Well, how about with Throw's schedule this year too. I
looked at that this past week. I mean, they're they're
really out of the gate. Their first five games are
going to be uh man, that's a tough that's a
mender no matter who you are.
Speaker 9 (46:37):
So they lost a couple of kids to Middletown, you know.
Uh uh. Their coach took him up there. College took
him up up there. But they still have a good group.
The running back from Purcell Maryon transferred there. He's going
to Central. I think he committed to the Central Michigan.
I'm not sure if he's still committed to them, but
he was our first team Tri State football preseason running back.
(46:58):
Ran for two thousand yards and twenty five touchdowns or
something ridiculous last year there. He'll be just trying Jail Harris, Yes,
Jail Harris. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (47:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (47:08):
So I think with he is gonna be fine again.
Tough schedule, but you know what, they're gonna be in
the playoffs and they'll be better for it. They were.
I was looking for their schedule quick last year. Yeah,
no doubt, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (47:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (47:20):
Elder Alter North Mont Sex South Taft. Oh, that's yeah,
that's that's that's a meat grinder of our first six
six games of the season right there. We we've been
talking about keeping guys healthy.
Speaker 4 (47:35):
You better, uh man.
Speaker 3 (47:37):
You better, you better have some after going through that
grinder right there.
Speaker 5 (47:41):
There was this post on on Instagram too from Max Preps,
and it's the uh the last twenty years the top
twenty five most dominant programs in the state of Ohio.
Speaker 2 (47:54):
Did you see that?
Speaker 3 (47:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (47:56):
I saw, I saw a bit in peace. Pretty interesting list.
Speaker 2 (47:58):
Yeah, so I'll just rolled down.
Speaker 5 (48:00):
This is again, last twenty years, the top most dominant
programs in the state of Ohio.
Speaker 2 (48:05):
They've got Saint Ed's by one hundred points over number two.
Speaker 5 (48:11):
Sant Ed's is number one, followed by Saint x col
Raine Moler Hobin, Saint Ignatius maryon Local who.
Speaker 2 (48:22):
I'm surprised they're not higher.
Speaker 5 (48:24):
They've won like twelve out the last fifteen state championships.
I think where they're at and what division they're in. L.
Salad eight, Cold Water, and then Cardinal Mooney That rounds
out the top ten.
Speaker 2 (48:34):
I'm not sure how they graded this.
Speaker 5 (48:36):
I'm not sure if it was by state championships or
playoff wins or overall wins, but I don't know. I mean,
that's that's pretty Cincinnati heavy. Like the first the top
five schools are Ed's ex.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
Coleraine mol Hobin, and then L. Salad eight.
Speaker 5 (48:53):
I think you know, you got three GCL schools in
the top eight. That's that's a pretty Cincinnati centric list
in my opinion, right, I mean that's very impressive.
Speaker 9 (49:01):
Yeah. I mean if you look at all that and
I would say, I would think Mentor over the last
twenty years, it could could arguably be up there just
as much as coal Ran. I mean you can flip
Mentor and Cole Rane in a heartbeat. I think because
the championship and eons, So you know, I don't disagree
a whole lot with that. I mean EDS has been fantastic,
(49:22):
EX has won their championships. I mean you know what
can specs say two fifteen to zero teams when he
first started in three years five and five team that
won a state championship COVID year. They blasted Pickering Central
in the state championship game. Hands down, We're the best
team that COVID year. So you know, I mean, I
(49:43):
don't have any problem with a lot of that. Cardinal Mooney.
I saw Cardinal Mooney lose to Clinton Massion the state
championship game. They were good. But you could also put
me if you're gonna put team like that in, I
mean Saint Vincent. Saint Mary's had some good teams back
when they played and trent Wood, I mean Trotwood, Madison, House, Trout.
Would Madison not in that group seven games?
Speaker 2 (50:02):
They got them.
Speaker 11 (50:04):
I got Trotwood at nineteen Yeah, so I mean I
I games now read a lot of the comments, A
lot of the comments on this post were just talking
about how there's a lot of proponents to have a
separate state championship for private schools in public schools because.
Speaker 5 (50:21):
That top ten, you know, it's it's mostly private schools,
you know, I mean, what's the answer to that, or
how do you how do you answer that that person
that's the you know, the guy throwing stones from the
back of the room calling bs on on the public
private thing.
Speaker 9 (50:35):
This is a great question, Martin, because now with open enrollment,
I'm not buying the argument one I owned one eye.
Now back in the day, I got it back, you know,
ten fifteen years ago, I got it, but not with
open enrollment now, you like again, you got the super teams.
I when I first left her, when I got out
(50:55):
of college, I moved to Chicago right out of college,
so eighty nine to two thousand, I was up there
and Chicago and Illinois and Wisconsin both had separate schools,
private school and public schools state championships. Public school basketball
in Chicago, Downtown Chicago ruled, you know, public or private
(51:19):
school football, and the suburbs we.
Speaker 4 (51:21):
Saw we saw in hoop Dreams too. Yeah.
Speaker 9 (51:24):
Right, so it's it's it's all that same in Wisconsin
was the same way, you know, but I think with
open and Roman, now I'm not buying it. Two years ago,
Mo Douglas was sitting there crying that he lost the
Saint Eds and they have all these things in the state.
You know, they have all the facilities, they have all
the money. I'm like, mom, you're starting safety is from
(51:46):
this place and that place and all over. No, I'm
not buying it. You're getting the players you want coming
in here now, so I'm not buying it anymore. Nope,
I agree with you for the record. Yeah, I know
in trouble for it.
Speaker 3 (52:00):
But so shoot, we brought you on here is you know,
strategically timed football preview. Let's talk about what your your
weekend is going to look like. I mean, you love
this more than anybody. The season kicks off Thursday. You've
got you know, your typical games on Friday. You got
a double header up at Fairfield on Saturday? What what
(52:23):
what's the what's three days of the life of Greg
Shoemaker going to look like?
Speaker 4 (52:27):
Well?
Speaker 9 (52:27):
So, so start really starts off on Monday. Really, so's
start my week off. I will do the Blitz five
Top twenty five, get that all over to five. Get
make sure that's all in order, Charlie checks it, make
sure we're all good there. Tuesday, I do the what's
the blitz five Game of the week, which is Lakota
West and uh Saint Ax. That gets over there.
Speaker 4 (52:50):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (52:50):
And then I will also go out Tuesday and do
a walk through for the week and a half your
two Friday games ahead, uh game of the week at
st X. So I'll go so like today I was
at Cubcath because our week two game is Cubcath and
Highlands at Cubcat. So it's out there today. Tomorrow I
go in and I'll tape the first forty five minutes
(53:13):
of the High School Football Tonight show on Fox Sports
thirteen sixty and ESPN fifteen thirty. Thursday, I get a
little bit of break, I get a catch up on everything,
get all the details out Friday starts Friday morning. I
get up and I will get out a letter to
the coaches and say hey, you know five or six
coaches say hey, we're going the post game after the
Saint X game, or you know, if you guys win,
(53:34):
we'll try to round you up and get an interview
for you. From basically nine thirty to eleven. So Friday,
I get up, I get all that squared away with
the coaches, get their postgame interviews lined up, have lunch,
take a nap, then I go out to the Blitz
five Game of the Week around three o'clock. Do that
and the schedule. Naps, Yeah, I've got one thirty two
(53:56):
o'clock after lunch. Yeah, get up, take a shower, and
I'm out the door at three thirty. So I do that,
and then I'll go to the Blitz five Game of
the Week from four o'clock till halftime. My house is
just down the street from the iHeartRadio studios, so I'll
stop in here freshen up, changed shirts. I'm listening to
(54:17):
the saying next game at halftime on my car radio,
so I know where i'm at. Three minutes up the
studios from my house. Go there, do the postgame show
from nine thirty to eleven. If Chick's in there on WLW,
I'll do a little bit of WLW. Get out of
there by eleven thirty. Come home. I'll look at some
postgame stuff. Friday nights, I can't sleep at this point,
(54:38):
so I'm up till like two thirty three o'clock. I
get to watch Ancient Aliens.
Speaker 4 (54:43):
Yo could coach man.
Speaker 3 (54:44):
We come home after games on Friday nights, so we
don't get to sleep till three in the morning.
Speaker 9 (54:48):
Well yeah, yeah, me and Andre Parker, we're talking about
this the other days. All the same thing I do
come home. That's why i have my bourbons, you know.
And like I'm looking at all the scores from everywhere
on Friday nights. Saturday night, Saturday morning, I get up,
I start doing the UH Player of the Week and
the Team of the week stuff and get that already
Sunday morning. That's gotta be all out to Channel five
and and on our site. So get that done. So
(55:11):
Saturday morning, I get that done. I take a nap
around eleven o'clock, get up and watch the High State.
Oh yeah, man, I got it down. I am. I
am ready for it out by nine thirty Saturday morning
and it's Sunday afternoon.
Speaker 5 (55:29):
Yeah, I'll be broadcast and I'll be broadcasting the little
South Cole Ring game.
Speaker 4 (55:33):
Tune in. I'll shoot you the link.
Speaker 9 (55:35):

posting on us. I do want to get this link.
