Speaker 5 (02:13):
It is three thirty am during the night of April
twenty fifth, nineteen thirty eight, near the town of Cannsville, Texas.
Ralph Lang and his wife were asleep in the upstairs
bedroom of their farmhouse. Outside the house, a car pulls
to a stop, and a moment later, Lang is awakened
by someone knocking on the front door.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
He gets up and goes downstairs. All right, who is it,
Mortar the wranger?

Speaker 5 (02:40):
Oh, sorry to wake Yep, sure's all right.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
What is it? You hear anyone prowling around your house?

Speaker 6 (02:48):
Nag?

Speaker 5 (02:49):
No, why, I don't want to scare you, but we're
looking for one of the inmates from the state hospital.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
You mean somebody escaped from the asylum.

Speaker 5 (02:55):
Yes, you're about one this morning. We're checking all the
houses in the area. Your door is locked here always
keep him locked at night. This man's he dangerous? Yes, sir,
he's killing Let's see.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
I'll have to move on now.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
I'll just make sure you keep your doors and windows
locked and let us know if you see her here.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Anything.

Speaker 5 (03:11):
Oh well, thanks for warning us nobody, Honey, you go
back to bed, can I sir?

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Night ranger? Who was that Texas ranger?

Speaker 4 (03:23):
What do you want?

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Nothing? Honey, that ain't so.

Speaker 7 (03:27):
What's a ranger doing around here this time of night?

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Now, Ginny, what is it?

Speaker 6 (03:30):
Ralph?

Speaker 2 (03:31):
What's happening?

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Nothing?

Speaker 2 (03:33):
I tell you.

Speaker 5 (03:33):
It's just some fellow got out of the hospital. Rangers
are looking for him.

Speaker 6 (03:37):
Why they come here?

Speaker 5 (03:38):
They're checking all the houses around here, just wander to
know if we've seen him. Well, I'm scared, No, honey,
there's nothing to worry about.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Let's go back to bed.

Speaker 5 (03:47):
I think you'all to look around the hospital. Prefer we
keep our doors and windows locked.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
He can he's rapped, all right.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
Honey, All right, but they ain't a way he could
have got in sides. If he did, we'd have heard him.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Now, all same.

Speaker 8 (04:02):
I feel better if it had a look, Okay, Ralph,
I'm scared.

Speaker 5 (04:07):
Nah, honey, you don't have to be scared here, I'll
switch on the living room life. Hey, you see not
a soul. You better look in the kitchen or Jenny.
The kitchen door is locked.

Speaker 6 (04:20):
I'm not sure I locked. I can't remember.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
All right, I go out there, be careful.

Speaker 5 (04:28):
I will nobody out here.

Speaker 6 (04:38):
See if the door's locked.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Uh huh, why you were right? It was unlocked. I
lock it up. Now I've looked. What you say. We'll
go back upstairs and get some sleep. I'm still scared
round you.

Speaker 5 (05:00):
Need you gotta get hold of yourself. Now there's nothing
to be scared of it. I'll just get this light.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Man, Uh this.

Speaker 6 (05:09):
Id you nothing upstairs sounding?

Speaker 4 (05:15):
I got betterom door.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Let me make sure. Don't no, honey, come on, yeah
it's closed.

Speaker 6 (05:24):
It's upstairs.

Speaker 7 (05:26):
He must have been hiding in the hall.

Speaker 6 (05:28):
Better phone give you.

Speaker 5 (05:30):
Let's go, all right, come on, I take this flavor.

Speaker 7 (05:44):
The light and our bed man just right out here.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Come on, we get the car. The car keys it upstairs.

Speaker 7 (05:53):
What are we gonna do well the window he's watching.

Speaker 6 (05:59):
Must come on.

Speaker 5 (06:00):
We gonna get out of here. When the couple reached
the nearest house half a mile away, they called the police.
Radio Wood was flashed to Texas Rangers Jas Pearson and
Clay Morgan were covering that area in separate cars.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Ranger Pearson had just arrived.

Speaker 5 (06:20):
At the Laning farmhouse when Ranger Morgan pulled up him
over air. Clay, I checked this place just thirty minutes ago.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
M h house is dark and could still be in there.
Let's go find out.

Speaker 5 (06:35):
Sure, hope we're getting fast and think of a guy
like Charlie Brock went around the countryside. Yeah, try the door, Yeah,
shall lane, here's a light, I'll get it.

Speaker 9 (06:50):
And doesn't look like he's down here anyhow. Let's get upstairs.
Stay on your toes. He gets cornered.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
He probably put up a fight. Droom doors closed? You
hear anything? Jee, No, let's go in.

Speaker 5 (07:07):
Easy, not here reckon the lianes could have been imagining things.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
I don't think so. Look of this.

Speaker 9 (07:20):
Hospital closed. Charlie was here alright, probably helped himself to
one of mister Lang's suits. We'll get a description of
anything that's missing. What do you figure we ought to
do now? He can't be too far away. Let's go
outside and see if we can pick up any kind
of trail.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Might not do any harm to have a look at
that barn back of the house.

Speaker 5 (07:37):
Yeah, we'll check there first, and if we don't find
any tracks, we would suit up and start covering the area.
Tough part is we don't have any way of figuring
what he'll do next.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Uh huh.

Speaker 5 (07:47):
Wish we could see that barn better. Moon just gone
down behind the hill. And you see alright, since we
get a little closer, must be pretty slippery to break
out of that hospital.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Yeah, vicious to you remember his case? All I know
is he murdered his parents spot to years ago. Pants
and two sisters clubbed him to death. And I wonder
what makes a man go off? Hold of the second?

Speaker 6 (08:08):
What is it?

Speaker 9 (08:09):
But I heard something and there it is again, sounds
like gravel rolling down his hill.

Speaker 5 (08:15):
Come on, Jason, there he is standing on that ridge.
You can see a silhouette. Hold it, Charlie, where there's
no use to play.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
He just went over the rise. How about that? There're
the whole time watching us. He sure got nerve more
than that. Watch yourself when we get to town.

Speaker 5 (08:34):
Yeah, and I'll be ware'd he go. There's not a
sign of him, and he's gotta be around somewhere.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Let's keep moving.

Speaker 9 (08:53):
Charlie Brock's trail led through a stretch of brush and
ended on the bank of a shallow creek. Play went
back for our horses, and we continued to sew the area.
By noon, we were convinced Charlie had gotten away. We
decided that the psychiatrist at the State hospital might be
able to give us some information that would help in
our search.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
We went there.

Speaker 9 (09:11):
Doctor Gallas showed us the window of the isolation room
through which Charlie had escaped.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
He had sawed the bars.

Speaker 9 (09:16):
With a piece of string coated with wax and scouring powder.

Speaker 5 (09:20):
This unbelievable ranger three heavy bars in order that piece
of string to work with the patience of the man.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
How long was he in isolation, doctor.

Speaker 5 (09:28):
About three months. I can't imagine why one of the
attendants didn't notice what he was doing.

Speaker 9 (09:33):
It seems like he was pretty clever about that too.
Little bits of chewing gum on the ends of the
bars probably used to cover up his progress.

Speaker 5 (09:40):
By the way those bars had been out, Jaez took
a strong man to do that, even after they were
sawed through.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
As Charlie strong, He's incredibly strong. Well that's my call.
You want to wait to hear ranges.

Speaker 9 (09:49):
I shouldn't belong and we'll come along with you. We're
anxious to get going as soon as we ask a
few more questions.

Speaker 5 (09:58):
Chary was saying he didn't realize how strong Charlie was,
so we had to put him in isolation. What happened, Well,
we had just admitted a young man to the hospital.
School teacher one day. He was talking to Charlie. Now,
something he said must have made Charlie angry.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Did Charlie attack him, Yes.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
He did.

Speaker 5 (10:14):
It took six attendants to get Charlie under control. He
almost killed the school teacher.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Was that the first time he had trouble with him?

Speaker 5 (10:21):
Yes, she's always been very quiet, too quiet. We weren't
able to do much with him in the way of therapy.

Speaker 9 (10:27):
What about his killing his parents and sisters? Were you
ever able to figure out the reason for him?

Speaker 5 (10:31):
It wasn't easy to get Charlie to talk, but we
gathered they'd always made fun of him.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
He'd been taken out.

Speaker 5 (10:36):
Of school when he was sixteen and still in the
fourth grade, and his family didn't let him forget him.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
He was older than sixteen when he killed them. Wasn't
he yes, well just a second, Marne, just I had
the key right here.

Speaker 5 (10:48):
Wasn't Charlie in his middle twenties when he came here
twenty four? Seems he ran away from home now he
was taken out of school.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
He came back to see.

Speaker 5 (10:56):
The bluff at his hometown eight years ago, after he'd
been home only two months. See, well you know the
rest uh huh after you were ranged.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Excuse me while I see what the call desk wants.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
Doctor Gallas, do you want me?

Speaker 2 (11:15):
Oh just a minute. Desk has some message for either
one or do I'll take it? Jesson, Ranger Morgan, Yeah,
hold on, I certainly hope you catch up with Charlie sooner. Ranger.

Speaker 5 (11:26):
Oh wait, he's dangerous. He's extremely dangerous, completely unpredictable. There's
no telling will he'll tried to kill gameers?

Speaker 2 (11:33):
But you think he will try to kill I wish
I could say no. Doctor. Uh, we beg it going.

Speaker 5 (11:37):
Jason, who was a town marshal's office over at Rockville.
Somebody spotted Charlie Brock at a schoolyard there.

Speaker 9 (11:48):
We took my car and made the eighteen miles from
the hospital to Rockville in twenty minutes.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Was three point thirty when we arrived. The schoolyard was deserted.

Speaker 9 (11:55):
We began looking for the town Marshall and we found
his car park two blocks from the school. As we
pulled up with saw the Marshall just leaving a house
and got out of our car and walked toward him.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
How he readers, boy?

Speaker 5 (12:09):
I sure him glad to see the pair of few
ye and he leads on a Marshall And that's yet
the only one seeing it was missus Cannine over the school.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
She's one of the teachers there. How long ago was this?

Speaker 5 (12:19):
I mean, let's see, it must have been two hours ago.
And you know I got right out of the school.
He'd already disappeared. I'd been looking everywhere, doing a house
to house now, Uh huh.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
You're assured was Charlie Brock, the teacher.

Speaker 5 (12:32):
So couldn't have been nobody else or normal Canine. She
don't make mistakes, she said, she recognized his picture from
the paper. Even if she hadn't, couldn't have been no
doubt about it from the way he was acting. How
do you mean, well, miss Canine, she had the kids
out in the school yard and she seen this Feller
standing outside the fence. Well, she didn't pay much attention

(12:55):
to him. And then she scolded one of the kids
a little in this full of starts at it and
carrying on crazy like did he come into the school yard,
mister Canye. She didn't wait to see why. She just
took the kids inside and called me. I come right out,
John Sting. I ever seen how I can find him?

Speaker 2 (13:13):
Where's missus Cannin? Now?

Speaker 5 (13:15):
She's over her house. You see, she don't have no car,
so I rode a home in mind. She was right
up sitting.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
I guess she won.

Speaker 5 (13:22):
Yep, she got herself from such a state. I had
to get one of the neighbors to stay with her,
I said, you, rangers, I sure hope you catch.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
This full of fast.

Speaker 5 (13:30):
I don't want no part no maniac in my town.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
No, sir, you say you covered all the area around
the school.

Speaker 5 (13:36):
We covered every street and every house right up to here.
There ain't no place you could hide for me, not
the way I know this town. But I ain't been
able to find him.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Now, I will give you a hand.

Speaker 5 (13:45):
It's pretty tough for you to be working alone anyhow, Well,
just between you and me, Rangers, I'd be happy if
it's you call him and not me. I don't mind
handling traffic offenders, but this maniac hu, he's something.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
Different from me.

Speaker 5 (13:56):
Now our radio station standing by the flashes in case
anything happens.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
Oh, they knew. I asked your town operator to call him.

Speaker 5 (14:03):
I'm going to get me a radio in my car
one of these days. Mighty hand anything to have, especially
when he got something like this year brock full of
loose in town.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
Yeah, well, we'll see you later, Marshall. I hope you
get him ranged. I sure hope you go. Figure he
might still be around, Jason. I'll even try to guess
how close we were to him last night. He was
watching us the whole time we were around the Lang
farmhouse and we didn't know it.

Speaker 5 (14:23):
Yeah, and that was a second time in an hour.
I could have had him if i'd known him.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
I don't reckon.

Speaker 9 (14:27):
The best thing to do is cover the outskirts of town.
Maybe we'll be able to spot him somewhere along the
n Attend to kt X A go ahead.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
Kt XA arrived in town of Rockville, un at ten
in Rockville, go ahead and investigate house at five seven
three Oak Street.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
Man is attempted to strangle.

Speaker 5 (14:49):
A miss Laura Stanwick seventh, believed to be Charles Brock.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
In just a moment, we will continue with Tales of
the Texas Rangers, starring Joel McCrae as Ranger Jace Pearson.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
You've seen it happen time and time again. Children playing
a ball rolls into the street, A child rushes after
it full in the path of a speeding automobile. Perhaps
the driver stops in time, the chances are he can't,
and another tragedy, another accident due to carelessness, is chalked
up to become a figure on next year's traffic accident

(15:41):
statistical chart. Let's all keep this year's traffic accident rate
as low as possible.

Speaker 4 (15:47):
Stay within the speed limit.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
Don't endanger your life by trying to get somewhere too quickly.

Speaker 4 (15:52):
Better late than never may.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
Be a tired old saying, but it's also good common sense.
Be alert and careful every moment you're behind them wheel
never drive after drinking, stick to your side of the road,
and watch for warnings at grade crossings. Remember it's your
life that's at stake. You can't afford to be careless.

Speaker 4 (16:11):
A life you.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Save may be your own, and let's get back to
tales of the Texas Rangers and our story for this week.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
We continue now with Tales of the Texas Rangers and
our authentic story, Unleashed Fury.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
We drove to the address indicated in the radio call.

Speaker 9 (16:43):
It was a small bungalow set a little apart from
the rest of the houses on the street.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
When we arrived, the number of neighbors were already.

Speaker 9 (16:50):
In the house and stood in little groups in the
living room and kitchen. Two or three people were comforting
Laura Stanleck, a girl in the early twenties.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
She was sitting at the kitchen table.

Speaker 9 (16:59):
Excuse me, yes, that's true, these folks, if you don't mind,
we'd like to ask Miss Stanwick a few questions. We
won't be long, Miss Stanwick. We're sorry to bother you,
but there are a few things we.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Have to know.

Speaker 6 (17:13):
It was so awful, awful.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
Did you get a good look at the man?

Speaker 6 (17:17):
Yes, his eyes in the way of his mouth.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
Had you ever seen him before?

Speaker 6 (17:22):
Only his picture in the paper? He was a man
who oh, I'm sorry, the.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Man who escaped from the hospital last night. Yes, can
you tell us how it happened?

Speaker 8 (17:31):
I was standing here at the table feeling the tastes.
I heard the kitchen door open and I looked around.

Speaker 6 (17:38):
Oh it was so awful.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
I'm sure it was.

Speaker 8 (17:41):
He jumped at bed the most horrible sound, like an animal.
I've felt him butt his hand on my throat.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
Yes, ma'am, I think.

Speaker 6 (17:53):
I jabbed his shoulder with a knife. I'm not sure.
After that, I must have fainted.

Speaker 9 (17:59):
Is this a knife you were using the pup potatoes? Yes,
a little speck of blood on the tip, Chase.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
She might have nicked him. Uh huh?

Speaker 9 (18:05):
Any hours enough to scare him away? Miss Stanwick? You
say you only saw this man's picture in the papers.
You never actually saw him until he came into your kitchen. No,
were you home the all day?

Speaker 6 (18:16):
Oh no, I'd just gotten home from school a few
minutes before I came here.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
School.

Speaker 6 (18:21):
I'm a teacher at the grammar school. Jane, Uh huh?

Speaker 2 (18:24):
How'd you get home from school? Miss Stanwick? Walk?

Speaker 6 (18:26):
I drove?

Speaker 2 (18:27):
Is that your coop out in front the blue one?

Speaker 6 (18:29):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (18:30):
Where was it parked.

Speaker 6 (18:31):
Right outside the school building where I always leave it?

Speaker 5 (18:34):
When you got into the cart, do you remember if
you looked in the back seat what.

Speaker 6 (18:38):
No, I don't think I did. Miss go. She's the
fourth grade teacher. She was standing with the car when
I got in.

Speaker 8 (18:44):
I remember we talked a few minutes about report cards.

Speaker 6 (18:48):
No, I'm sure I didn't look in the back.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
Even if you had, it would have been tough to
see anybody if he was lying on the floor.

Speaker 6 (18:54):
You mean he was in my car the whole time
I was driving home.

Speaker 5 (18:58):
It sounds that way, man, Oh, that's probably why the
Marshall didn't spot. Charlie picked himself a good place to hide.

Speaker 6 (19:04):
Ranger, you don't think that man will come back.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
I don't know. You better have one of your neighbors
stay with you until he's picked up.

Speaker 6 (19:11):
Awful, man, I know who sleep till you get it? Please, Rangers,
you got to get it.

Speaker 9 (19:24):
We questioned the neighbors. Nobody had seen Charlie Brock enter
or leave the house. Working in cooperation with the Marshall
and the posse of townspeople, we covered every inch of
the town. At ten that evening, Clay and I went
into a restaurant to get something to eat before continuing
the search.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
Tire Jess, Oh, not too much, I don't know. Speaks
to me, how these guys. Your speared me too. Unless
he's hide in some place we haven't thought of looking.

Speaker 5 (19:47):
You can't think of where that would be. We've had
just about every alley, cellar.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
In backyard in town. You want to hand me as
salt and pepper. Thanks.

Speaker 5 (19:56):
Like I said last night, you can always try to
out guess an ordinary criminal, figure out some kind of
mo on him. With this guy, you never know what
he's gonna do next.

Speaker 9 (20:04):
I've been thinking about that. Seems to me we do
have something that looks like an amo. You mean schools?

Speaker 2 (20:09):
Uh huh.

Speaker 9 (20:10):
Remember while he was in the hospital he jumped the
school teacher. To day he was after two others.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
Yeah, yeah, onem's a pattern, all right?

Speaker 9 (20:18):
But why That's something doctor Gallis would have to say
for sure. But it sounds like Charlie feels everything that's
gone wrong for him.

Speaker 5 (20:24):
Started with school and teachers. I suppose it's true. Suppose
he's going to hit another school. Where does that leave us?
We can't cover every school in Texas.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
No, but there's one we can cover one that could
be a pretty likely choice for Charlie. Which one's that?

Speaker 9 (20:36):
Charlie's hometown, Cedar Bluff. It's only about twenty miles from here. Yeah,
but how can we be sure?

Speaker 2 (20:42):
We can't.

Speaker 5 (20:43):
But if you draw a straight line between the hospital
and Cedar Bluff, what's it cut through. Well, let's see it. Hey,
it does come right through here. You figured Charlie might
have just been sidetracked for a few hours this afternoon,
and maybe the place he really meant to go when
he broke out was his hometown.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
Uh huh.

Speaker 9 (20:59):
There's more half a chance he may be heading for
the school where he used to go.

Speaker 5 (21:03):
He could figure that this school is the root of
all his trouble. You might have something to that. Jeesh,
you finished Eton.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Yeah, I've had enough. Let's get over to Cedar Bluff.

Speaker 9 (21:18):
We arrived in Cedar Bluff a little before midnight and
awakened the principal of the grammar school, a.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
Man named Dunn.

Speaker 9 (21:24):
He'd been one of Charlie Brock's teachers and twice the
victim of Brock's violence. Mister Dunn admitted that he'd been
more than uneasy since reading of Charlie's escape. He also
felt the strong possibility of Charlie showing up at the
school following morning. Play and I arrived at the school
before it opened. By eight thirty, the children began arriving.
Fifteen minutes later, mister Dunn walked toward where we stood

(21:44):
just outside the school building.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
Good morning, good money, honor, mister Dunn.

Speaker 5 (21:50):
Here you know I I've got the confessor. After you
left me last man, I had.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
To slip the week. I'm sorry we bothered you who
we thought it was necessary.

Speaker 5 (21:58):
And of course it was good morning, miss Hoffing. I
kept thinking about Charlie Brock and the trouble he gave
us when he went to school here. We't expect he
was a real problem. Yes he wasn't It's so strange.
In most ways he was a completely backward boy. But
sometimes when it came to covering up something he had done,
he was actually brilliants.

Speaker 9 (22:18):
And we've seen some examples of his brilliance, like the
way he broke out of the hospital.

Speaker 5 (22:21):
Well, once you've been close to him, you'll never forget him.
He was like, oh, he was like some vicious animal.
I can still remember the way he looked, and that
was over fifteen years ago. And I certainly hope he
doesn't show up here. With all these children around.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
We'd be watching for him. Mister Dunn just in case.

Speaker 5 (22:38):
Don't you want to come into my office where you
can make yourselves comfortable.

Speaker 9 (22:41):
Thanks, but we better stay in our car. There might
be some radio calls deside. We'll have a better view
of the school from there.

Speaker 4 (22:47):
Is your car. I'm afraid I don't see it.

Speaker 5 (22:49):
Oh behind those trees, mister Dunn where he got out
of the way, especially for Charlie's benefit.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
Oh, yes, and call us if you want us.

Speaker 4 (22:55):
Well, thank you, But I hope I don't have to.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
And see a letter mister Dunn.

Speaker 6 (22:59):
Come on.

Speaker 5 (23:00):
Yeah, that, mister Dunn reminds me of a teacher I
had when I was going to school in Wichita Falls.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
Huh, Hey that.

Speaker 5 (23:07):
Jas Remember how there were days when you'd hear that
bell while he's still.

Speaker 2 (23:11):
Two blocks away from school.

Speaker 9 (23:12):
Yeah, you started worrying because you were late, and there
was nothing you could do about it. Yeah, except start
thinking of a good excuse. I wonder what goes on
in Charlie Brock's mind when he hears a school bell ring.
He probably thinks it's the end of the world. Could
be you're not far wrong. Well, we better get in
and settled down.

Speaker 5 (23:30):
We're liable to be here all day.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Ten thirty. Must be the recess bell. Uh huh.

Speaker 5 (23:46):
Sort of funny about Charlie. You think if he was
gonna show who you've been here?

Speaker 2 (23:49):
But now I don't know, Clay, Maybe I was wrong.

Speaker 5 (23:52):
Well you had it figured. Sounded like pretty good reasoning.
Could be he's sleeping somewhere. Maybe he'll turn out this afternoon.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
Maybe I'm beginning to one there. He doesn't show by
this afternoon, You want to move on? It might be
the best idea. We get the constable to keep watching.
There's mister Dunn on the steps. He's waving to us,
looks pretty excited about something. Come on, let's go, just.

Speaker 5 (24:18):
Hurry, hurry.

Speaker 6 (24:24):
He's in there.

Speaker 4 (24:25):
He's in type of the building where.

Speaker 5 (24:26):
He tried to kill miss Hoffman, which was awful.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
The way he looks.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
Where do you go upstairs?

Speaker 5 (24:31):
I think I'm right, must be up this way. Didn't
come in while we were here. Must have broken in
the school last night and slept here. Yeah, try that
first classroom. I'll get the other one right.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
Nobody in here. This one's empty too. Might as well
work our way down the hall. We got it.

Speaker 9 (24:54):
Wait a minute, room over there, thought I just saw
the door he shut.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
He is in there. Try not to make any sudden moves.

Speaker 9 (25:03):
Just keep talking about we worked toward him.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
Yeah, jeez in the corner.

Speaker 5 (25:13):
Uh huh.

Speaker 6 (25:16):
M.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
All right, Charlie.

Speaker 9 (25:20):
Come on now, boy, easy, now, Charlie, but he's gonna
hurt you.

Speaker 2 (25:25):
You just come along with us. It's going for the flower.

Speaker 9 (25:29):
Pluck no, Charlie, put it down, Put it down, Charlie.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
Come on, Charlie, you're.

Speaker 5 (25:39):
Going with us now, easy, Charlie, Come on, Charlie. Let's go, Charlie.
Everything's gonna be all right. Now, that's a boy easy.

Speaker 6 (26:01):
Does it down this way, Charlie, Everything all right, brings you.

Speaker 5 (26:06):
This is done, and you better get back in one
of the class guys.

Speaker 4 (26:09):
We get Charlie out.

Speaker 2 (26:13):
All right, Charlie, all right, let's go. Mm hmm, let's go.
Let's go. You'll be all right, Charlie. I don't belong
in there.
