Speaker 1 (00:00):
I am doctor Teresa Smith, doctor Taras. Welcome to this
edition of Talk with Tas I have with me today
to Kenya Johnson. She's an author, she's a speaker, she's
a transformation coach who is changing lives across the globe.
So I want you to get ready, take God, take
your phone, well, your phone probably out, get to pee

(00:22):
in the paper this time. You take some notes because
you can't do it the phone because you might lose us.
And take some notes because you know we're going to
be sharing some serious wisdom on how you can step
into your power and master your mind, your body, and
your spirit. So to ken you, welcome to the show.
Thank you so much, doctor Thomas for having me, Thank

(00:44):
you for being with me. To Kenya, I just want
to jump right in. You know, I gave just a
little sniffet of your resume, but you've accomplished so much
from authoring seven books. I believe to speak of global stages.
What sparts your journey into transformation and empowerment? Uh, Doctor Taz,

(01:08):
I've always been a writer, right, Like I write in
journals every day, like all day long. Like I have
probably about five boxes filled with journals, you know, and
I often go back and I look at them and
I'm like, wow, you know, I've accomplished so much, you know,

(01:30):
But during that time, I was like, well, God, why
had not I accomplished these things? But you know, in life,
we have to go through things in order to have
that big transformation. And so I went on a journey.
I went on a journey because I had to heal
in some places, as we all do, and so I
took the journey, you know. And I write about, you know,

(01:54):
the journey in one of my books that's called who
Is She Discovering Your Secret Weapons, right, And so it's
a twenty one day journal where it helps people to discover,
you know, some secret things about themselves that they don't know,
you know, and to find their purpose in life. And
so when I went on the journey, I started writing

(02:16):
the books to help others to go on that journey,
you know, of discovering themselves and that and that is
so important because sometimes I believe people don't really want
to know who they really are. It's easier just to
buy into our own cover story, our own represented when

(02:38):
we know in our heart that's not who we are.
But when you own who you really are. That means
you may have to do a little work. And so
I think it's so interesting that you wanted people to
really begin to understand who they were in order for
the work to begin. Now I think I read some

(02:59):
of the you call yourself a destiny helper. Yes, that's great.
What does that mean? Well, we're all on a journey
to a destination, right, So whenever you want to manifest
things in life, right, you always have to take a
journey to discovering. You know how to get to point

(03:21):
A to point B. And so as a destiny helper,
that's what I do. I help people to get from
A to Z to get to that place that they're
trying to get to. Now, that sounds like it's easy,
Well let me get it. Well it does. It sounds

(03:41):
like that's easy. And you know, I know for myself
that's not an easy job. It's not an easy mission.
And whether you're the person coaching the person forward or
you are the individual having to do the work, that's
not easy. So, if you were working with someone, what
type of strategies are how we I'm a counselor by training,

(04:04):
what type of homework would you give them to help
move them, you know, along their path. Well, in this
book that I have, there are steps, there are tip
tips that I give people on how to navigate right
because even the word of God, it helps us to

(04:25):
navigate through life's challenges. So as a coach, that's what
I do in order to help you to transform, to
go through this transformation. I just help you to navigate
from from point A to point B. So I give
you strategies, tips and two which is why people come
to me. You know. I offer those services and I

(04:48):
get a plan together according to the individual that is
in front of me. Everyone is different, so there's not
just one thing that I use for everybody. So I
have we converse with the I have to get to
know you. We have to spend intimate time together so
that I can get to know you, just like a
husband and a wife. I can't say that I love

(05:08):
you if I never spend time with you. And so
I just help people in that aspect in that way. Well,
now that's good to know, because you know, sometimes we
be struggling with self doubt out and we feel sometimes
that we're not qualified for that particular job. But we're

(05:29):
not qualified for this. I don't deserve this type of mate.
So whatever you know that is that success and whatever
it is you're striving for or you would like to have,
what's your advice for someone who's attempting, who's tempted to
count themselves out, meaning that they're less than that they're
not qualified for something, Doctor Tajh, I'm going to tell

(05:51):
you the best motivational speech that I heard from someone
is telling me that I could not do it, I
could not become it. And so I'm often reminded about
the story of the little boy David versus Goliath. Right,
that's one of one of my favorite stories. This is

(06:13):
a little structure, a small structure, and I'm very sure.
I'm a short girl, you know, so I don't know
what your goliath is. But Goliath was this big giant,
you know, challenges all of us. We're gonna face challenges
in life. And so I often look at David Versus Goliath.
See they laugh at David, you know, because people will

(06:35):
tell you, well, that little that little book you just wrote.
I mean it's just a little book, you know, that
little T shirt line, it's just little, you know, that
little ministry that you have. You only have five people,
you know, in your ministry, you know, and everything is
little when it comes to you. But I often I

(06:56):
have to remind myself that people don't have the same
ice right, the same vision that I have. They don't
have the same perspective that I am. God gave it
to me for a reason, and so I have to
run with what God gave me. And so and that
motivational speech when they said that I could not do it,

(07:17):
and I'm looking and I'm reading about David versus Goliath.
Now David said he was He said, I'm tending to
my father. She you know, he was handling his father's business.
And I often have to remind myself and I remind
my mentees. You know, you're tending to something that's big

(07:41):
to you. So when people tell you it's little, you
can't do that. You have to turn it around. But
this is big businesses. God gave that vision to me.
This big business. And I'm standing on big business when
I'm doing my heavenly Father's purpose for me being here
in the earth, I'm doing big business. I'm always doing

(08:02):
big business when I'm doing my father's business. I love
that standing on big business. I'm doing big business. And
you know, I'm just as some other people I have
been told, you know, your little show, your little whatever.
But again, I'm doing big business because I'm doing my
father in Heaven's work. And you're right. We have to

(08:24):
constantly remind ourselves of that. And you'll not even get
upset with the people because you said they only see
what they see. They don't know what the vision is,
they don't know what the plan is. So to them
if there was a little show, you know, and and
you know, my mind just runs too many different things
when I say that, I just thought about Scandal, And

(08:52):
I can't remember what the talk was about Scandal when
it first came out, But somebody could have thought was
gonna be a little show because you know, Sharonda Shanda
Ryans had already done Grades Anatomy then I think she did,
and they're so totally different. And you know, I watched

(09:14):
grays an Anatomy in the beginning for many years, but
they're so totally different, and it's like, could she duplicate
the success that she had with Gray's Anatomy with Scandal?
Well thought Scandal was gonna be a little show the
Coopers and the Hoodie because it was not a little show.

(09:37):
But again from the outside, we sometimes tend to pass
judgment when we really should just sit down and yes
and be quiet, because just like no one can really
know what you're doing, you can't know what someone else
is doing and what big business has been given to
them to handle. So I just love the big business,

(10:01):
can you. Now? You mentioned your book who is She
Discovering Your Secret Weapon? And you know that book encourages
women to step into their power? What? And I believe
that we all have or I believe it in multiple ways.
I know that we have secret powers. And sometimes our

(10:22):
secret power is the thing that we think is our
Achilles hill. That's really our secret power. Yes, but you
know what are some of those secret weapons that maybe
you have that not that you person, that we all have,
but we may not realize that that's our secret weapon

(10:43):
to help us further down our journey. Well, I would
say our faith like your faith, like you have to
believe in you when no one else believes in you,
You have to believe in you. So your faith, your
faith is is your secret weapon. You know, your prayer
life is your secret weapon. You getting up, going to

(11:06):
your job and being at work on time is your
secret weapon. You know. Uh, some things that we think
are just so minute, but they aren't your secret weapons.
You know, you following instructions, that's a secret weapon. Yeah,
you know. But to but to be very honest and
clear with you, doctor Taras, all of us are giving

(11:30):
strategies every day, right, every single day that we wake up.
You know, God is downloading things to us every single day,
and all we have to do is to upload. He's
downloadading them to us, and we must upload them every day.
You got to spend time with God, you know, you

(11:50):
have to spend time with yourself. Like I can't expect
somebody to love me, and I don't love me. So
I spend a lot of time with me, me and God.
You know, that's that's just who I am, you know.
And God downloads these things to me every single day,
and I put them to practice. I develop myself, I
help others to develop themselves, and then strategies are put

(12:13):
into place and then we execute. You know, the Bible
tells us that we have to have a knowledge, wisdom,
and understanding, you know, in all things that we do,
and that is so important, having knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.
And then when you talk about faith, and I like

(12:34):
the way you broke down all these things that are
secret weapons that we think nothing about were in the
mass doesn't even me sometimes I don't think about it
from that perspective. But something that is just a part
of who I am, that's not a part of other people.
It's just not a part of them, and so they

(12:54):
struggle with that. And what I'm getting from that is
to Kenya, it is so important to go back again
to when you talked about figuring out who you are,
so that you know how He has equipped you to do,
equipped you for your purpose because you already had it.

(13:16):
It's that we not tune into what we actually have
because we take it for granted because it's, oh, that's
just who I am. I've always done that. Oh yeah,
But other people they take in classes to learn how
to do that. Maybe that they don't understand what you
just look up, its just coming in your DNA. They

(13:36):
trying to grab that. And so that is so important
when you're talking about empowerment now. But even with all
of that, we know sometimes life can be unpredictable and
our emotions can cloud our judgment. How do you personally
balance your your your logic and grace when it comes

(14:02):
to making difficult decisions. Well, when it comes to making
difficult decisions, like you know we've already talked about, I
have to know who I am, right, I have to
know who I am, and I have to be honest.
You know, when I'm making any type of decisions, I
gotta be honest with me. Is this gonna be good

(14:24):
for me? Or is this gonna be bad for me?
You know, I put pros and cons. I always do
that whenever I'm making decisions. People have a hard time
just being honest. Like, if I don't know how to
do something, I'm gonna tell you I don't know how
to do it. Yeah. If I know how to do it,
I'm gonna do it. You know. So yeah, yeah, you

(14:50):
drop thing nuggets and you're dropping them like this, But
I hope that people will grab it because being honest
with yourself. How can we do this work? How can I? Well?
I can? But can I hold on to it? How
can I achieve what I want to achieve and hold

(15:13):
on to it? When I don't know who I am,
I'm not doing the work. I'm not making good decisions.
I'm not looking at the pros and because I'm not
tied into my faith. I'm not using my prayer life
so that i can understand the downloads that I'm getting.
So as you say, I can then do the upload
with that? How how how do I how do I

(15:35):
have what I say that I want when I'm not
willing to do the work and everything that I hear
you saying, you know, I'm a transformation because everything is
about transformation. You got to own your journey if you
want to make you want to go on a good
pill briage. Now you can always go on a pillow.
Oh yeah, you can go on any journey. But we

(15:56):
go on a whole lot of journeys every day. But
if you want to go on the positive, that's gonna
get you where you want to go and get your
things that you need in life. You gotta do a
little work in order to maintain the momentum, because there
is a momentum. Now you've taken your work international honor Paris.

(16:19):
What has been your biggest lesson in navigating new opportunities
and challenges with wisdom? Well, doctor tars, I'm gonna tell you.
Being around God has positioned me to be around people
like you, right, So there's a saying, when the student

(16:39):
is ready, the teacher will appear. Oh yes, and so
when I when because we're not always teaching, Doctor taras
we are. I consider myself a student of life, and
so I'm always learning. And when I'm ready to learn,
to be that student, you know, God places me. It's

(17:00):
signed specifically for me, for my needs and for your needs.
If i'm your student and you're my teacher, we're both
providing something for each other. You know, if you're the teacher,
then you need me as the student. I'm the student,
but I also need you, and so God positions us.

(17:21):
You know, during whatever season we need, if we need development,
God is going to position you because like I said,
you have to be honest. And so I myself, I said, well, God,
I know I need to develop in this area. You
know what plans? What will you have me to do?
And God will I'm here, I'm right here and I'm

(17:43):
right here with the doctor toiles right now today. You know,
talking about you know, purpose and power and breaking through
you know things, because those are things I've already gone through.
But God positions you for opportunities when you're He's not
I'm just gonna throw you out there and leave you

(18:03):
out there with the wolves. He's gonna position you, and
he's gonna place you in front of people who can
help to take you to the next level because they
need need you just as you need them. Now. When
you were in when you were abroad because I love
to travel, when you were in interacting with your audience there,

(18:25):
did you have to shift how you provided your message
or well, yes, yes, you always have to shift in
front of different audience. You have to know how to read,
but read a room. You have to know the people
that you're you're in front of, you know, which is
why people ask you what will you be talking about? Like,

(18:47):
you can't just speak on any thing in front of anybody,
so you have to know your audience. And I asked
that question because that goes back to knowing yourself, because
if you have to then discern if the opportunity is
the right opportunity for you, and at this moment in time,

(19:11):
it may be the right opportunity, but not at this moment.
And that goes back to everything that you've been saying
about knowing yourself, knowing your weapons, knowing your strengths, that
that relationship with God weighing the pros and cons before
you make a decision. So I just wanted to tie

(19:32):
that in for the audience that in every aspect of
our life, we are constantly doing everything or should be
doing the things that you're talking about. Now, Ken you
teach a self, you teach mastery through the mind, body
and the spirit. What daily habits or rituals do you

(19:55):
practice to stay alive and to keep growing? When when
I talk about mind, body, and spirit, that's considered a
healthy relationship and balance with yourself. Right, And so we
must align with our minds, our body, and our spirit
to manifest and to accomplish anything in life, you know,

(20:17):
because the mind is our intellect. That's how we cut
through the real and the and the faith, right, It's
how we communicate effectively. Our mind is what like we
soak up things. Whatever we think about, we soak it up,
and that's what we become, yes, right. And then we

(20:38):
talk about our bodies, right, Like I have a bottle
of water here. It reminds me to drink water because
my body is a temple, right, and I have to
treat it as such. You know, I can't put any
and everything in it. And once a week, I have
a self care day. Well, I drink on water and

(21:03):
fruit that entire day, right, because I have to keep
reminding myself and also to let my body know that
I need you. I need you, and I need you
to be you know, healthy, right, and so uh that
that water reminds me also about scriptures in the Bible.
It says rivers will flow through you. And so the

(21:27):
water reminds me of of of me cleansing myself, you know.
And then you talk about the spirit, mind, body and spirit.
Spirit is holy, it's pure right. I wrote a book
that's called A Warm and Laced Good Fire, and this
talks about the mind, the body, and the spirit, how

(21:48):
it has to be in alignment, and you know, and
I use three of my really good friends to represent
the mind, the body, and the spirit. One of my
fitness my fitness pal, one of my counselors, so she
would be the mind. And then a nurse friend of mine,
so she would be the body. And so I used them,

(22:13):
and so we did a little photo shoot and then
we came up with some some strategies and things in
that book, and it teaches about the mind, the body,
and the spirit and how it all has to be
an alignment. It's like an antenna. Have you ever had,
Like back in the day, we put the antennas on
the TV, and you know you have to turn it
in a certain way in order to get the song.

(22:34):
So if your mind, body, and spirit is not in alignment,
you're not gonna get the right signals, right frequencies. The
energy that comes like Holy Spirit, that's that's powerful energy.
And I want people to realize that that spirit that
I'm talking about, that's a powerful that's a powerful spirit.

(22:58):
I have to say this, set that again for the
people in the back about that spirit being powerful, and
you need to understand what spirit that she's talking about.
Saying again for yes, that Holy Spirit, that Holy Spirit
is powerful. It's a pure spirit. It's not it's a
pure spirit, and it is very powerful. And that's what

(23:22):
helps to transform our entire lives when we are in
balance with our mind, our bodies and the Holy Spirit.
And and you and you just preached a little sermon
there to Kenya, and you just you just confirmed something

(23:43):
that I realized yesterday about the alignment. And and so
I just love it when God just lets everybody just
keep sprinkling on that just to keep reinforcing what he
what I downloaded yesterday and then you say, now I
got to upload it, and I did uploaded and I

(24:05):
can see it already. U. So that that's the reason
I want you to say that again, because that alignment
piece is so important, Prince. But you know, as a
transformation coach, you have people break free from limiting a belief.
What's one powerful mindset shift that can help someone step

(24:30):
into the or begin to step into the next version
of themselves one thing, one thing that can help you
step into transforming your life. I would say that you
have to know, uh, where you're going, right, You gotta

(24:53):
know where you're going. I would say, you would have
to know where you're going, like in this book doctor Charles.
Therefore that I asked you, like when you were growing up,
what did you always want to become? You know, what
was that thing that you wake up every single day
or if you go to bed every single day you

(25:14):
think about it. You want to become. You want to
become that thing? Like that helps you to transform your
life when you know that one thing that you want
to do, you want to accomplish, you want to come.
I remember teaching a class, and there was an eighty
year old woman that was in the class, and when

(25:36):
I got around to her, I asked her, I said, well,
what's one thing that you wanted to do but you
weren't able to do? And she said, well, I always
wanted to own my own restaurant. And she said, but
I'm eighty years old, so I can't you know, to

(25:57):
start a restaurant now, she said, because my brother and
sisters at the time they said that I could not
do it. And I thought, well, their mindset was so limited, right,
just because they couldn't do it, didn't mean that you
couldn't do it. And sometimes we're around people that try
to keep us in a box. Yeah, and see, we're

(26:20):
not box people. God did not create us to be
in a box. Like you got to come out of
the box. And so what I encouraged her to do
was I said, okay, so if you're eighty years old
and you can't open a restaurant, right and you can't stand,
but guess what, you have a grandchild and she said, yes,

(26:41):
I do. And so I said, well what you can
do is you can instill and you can teach your
grandchild how to do all of these, you can come
up with a recipe book. Your granddaughter, your son can
do the recipe book for you, and we can put
your name on it, you know, so your recipes will

(27:04):
be out there. And so she said, well, I don't
know if they will want to do it. I said, well,
all you have to do is ask, right, it's something
that you always wanted to accomplish, you know, partner up
with the right people. You know they'll help you. And
so she and I began to work on it. And
you know what I did for her and her granddaughter.

(27:27):
I got the recipe book for her and she has
over one hundred recipes you know, out there now, so
that people you know, can start making the dishes that
she was just so in love with. No, she can't
physically stand and do it, but guess what, it's being done.
Her legacy is still living on in that that recipe book. Yes,

(27:52):
you know, Kenya, that is so powerful, knowing your why,
knowing where you're going, and you hold it on to
that dream, but also doing a little work there and
learning how to pivot because basically she achieved her goal
late in life, but she pivoted and she achieved it differently.

(28:15):
But she still got got to do what she always
wanted to do. And I think for me me, that's
a good message for the audience because you've laid out
so many different strategies that we can use as far
as our transformational journey, but also understanding that the goal

(28:36):
is going to shift some too. You know, I was
with someone recently and we talked about that as we
learned our why and our purpose, the more we begin
to walk in it and do those things that you
talked about, the praying and the communication with God, the
downloads and then the uploads, we get to a place

(28:58):
I call it, you get to your niche because at
first we look at that why or that purpose. Like
the Young Lady, it was a restaurant, But as you
get as you continue to walk in it, it gets
narrowed down to what it was all I believe, what
it was always supposed to be. And that's when you
are really working and utilizing your true superpower. And that's

(29:23):
and that's what happened with the the Young Lady. She's eighty,
but now she's gone from restaurant to having the recipe
boots and think about it, there are more people that
can access her cooks her recipes across the globe than
with a walk into her restaur Yes, exactly. I mean

(29:48):
to me that it gives me goosebumps because it's like,
that's what it's all about, is getting to that place
that you can see it just that clearly to n

the way they're supposed to work, and you have a
little ache and paign. So it's the same way when
