Talking Scienfeld has brought to you bythe four Finger Discount Network. So Saturday
night, she had to be impressedby that conversation, had to it was
a great performance. I am unbelievableon the phone on the date. That
should just have two phones on thetable at the restaurant Saturday night. So

(00:23):
what did you say? You saidyou're getting to get Saturday night. That's
it. She didn't mentioned anything aboutthe conversation. No, well, you
see, I don't get that.We had a relaxed, stimulating, great
conversation. She doesn't mention it.Why doesn't she mention it? She couldn't

(00:44):
mentioned the conversation. All right, all right, I'll go on the date.
But that's that. Welcome to TalkingSinfold, the podcast where we discuss

(01:06):
everything we know about the show aboutnothing. This week we're here to review
the episode The Fix Up. Iam Dando. I am Guy Dando,
doing it very very well. Thankyou to everyone who has tuned into the
show this week and followed us onFacebook, Facebook, dot com, slash
Talking Seinfoud, Talking Seinfold on Twitter, and at Talking sinfd on Instagram.
Please make sure you continue to followus, and thank you to everyone who
has reached and reviewed us on ApplePodcasts this week at Chuck Us five stars

(01:27):
on Spotify. Do you appreciate allof your support? All right? To
fix up, mister Davis. Thiswas a really, really fun episode.
This was sort of like this isclassic Scifer in the sense that it was
very dialogue heavy, just long conversations. Not a lot of different set pieces,
just long conversations in like Jerry's apartmentand on the phone, which were

(01:48):
just felt so real, felt likea conversation you could still have today.
I just I just I just lovedit. I thought that, um,
Cynthia, what a character. Well, of course you're gonna like Cynthia because
she, of course is played byin the in the credits of this episode,
she's Maggie Jacobson. She may beknown as better known as Maggie Wheeler
and Maggie Wheeler of course played Janison Friends, which is the subject of

(02:12):
the One about Friends, another areapodcast from the Fourth fe or Pals at
the four Finger discount network, andmy wife and I host that show.
So even you enjoy some Friends, make sure you check out that one,
the One about Friends byes Guy.As you were saying this episode. Just
a terrific performance by by miss Wheeler. Yeah, just I don't know if
we ever, do we ever seeCynthia again, Does she ever make another

(02:35):
appearance? Yeah, I mean shejust lit up the room and left because
she felt very much in sync withthe Seinfeld style, you know, played
well off. So yeah, butI think the bulkore scenes were with Julia
Louis Drivers and those two year theybounce off each other really well or played
off each other really very very wellwell, So I think we don't see
all that often is Elaine having afemale friend to bounce off from long portions

(03:00):
of time. So, like shesaid, she's had friends on the show,
but they've usually been bitchy or whatnosNor roommates annoying having her with a
friend who's on the same wavelength andhaving a kind of like a Jerry Eline
kind of conversation a Bard. Yeah, they've sort of seen both equally neurotic,
Yes, I guess, And Ithink looking at it, Elaine sort
of has if she feels like she'skind of got the upper hand in this.

(03:23):
It's like, oh, she likesher friend clearly, but also recognized
that her friend has a few flaws. Few folds or whatever, and it's
an opportunity to feel a bit abit good about yourself. Like Jerry says
at the very end of the episodewhen he's talking about fix Up, he
goes, you know, that's agood thing, but it's also a power
trip for you. You're the onewho's you know, sort of steering things
in the direction that you think theyshould go in. That's why Jerry did

(03:44):
this. Jerry didn't really want toset up because he wanted George to find
happiness. Even he says, he'slike, I just won't work out.
He just wants to be able tohave the goss, wants to be the
puppet master. Yeah. So look, one thing I did notice about this
episode, and look, I'm gonnasound like I'm losing my marbles here or
losing my memory or whatever, butSeinfeld just had canned laughter before, right,

(04:08):
or I had sort of audience participationlaughter. It felt really over the
top this time. It felt likethere was a lot of canned laughter or
studio laughter, or live in frontof a studio audience laughter. It just
maybe the show was gaining popularity. But you know, you notice it's I
think it's I've got it like asmy fifth or six point, He's like,
very obtrusive applause, very obtusive laughter. And you know when kramerinds like

(04:31):
Cramer. That's the most substantial reactionhe's received on the show so far.
I think when he's watching the roomlike it was like to the point where
you couldn't even hear him, andhe could tell that Michael Richards just just
moved on. He was like,I'm not fucking waiting because when you wait
for the applause, it sort ofkills the kills my momentum of the story,
doesn't it. It really does,And I think you know enough people
sort of take the piss out ofthat where someone sounding basking and basking it

(04:54):
Okay, now I'll start my line. It's like, don't forget why we're
here, guys. We had totell this particular story and this and this
was a good one. And LarryDavid he made a point I remember watching
it in the DVDs that he hatedthe crowd responding to crame it where he
said, you can get to thepoint where that to just tell people when
he enters, you remain quiet oryour laugh or whatever, it's not look

(05:15):
because he could see that Cramer wasbecoming, you know, the the f
the Fonzie of the show, andit's like, no, no, this
is sign Feld, not the CramerShow. Because once once one character sort
of takes over, it's hard topull it back. It quickly becomes the
show about them. Well, it'slike, we, you know, we
recently recorded an episode of Going Downto South Park where we talked a bit

(05:35):
about the old sitcom Good Times. That quickly became the donal Mate Show because
the character JJ kept sing and everyonewas really happy about that as opposed to
the stories that the show was telling. So, um, yeah, no,
I'm holy with Larry David on thatabout you know, you guys shut
up. Larry comes out specifically shutthe fuck up. So it wasn't just

(06:00):
the Cramer entering the room. Itwas when Elaine says something. It was
like the who you told him?Girlfriend? That what's going on here?
This isn't Married with Children? Iknow? And was it the Simpsons that
took the piss out of that? Were you know, you know they were
doing the Married with Children. I'mtrying to remember the thing that took the
piss out of Married with Children islike Simpsons did it and it's like,

(06:23):
no peg and then he flushes thetoylet. Oh, let's have sex,
no piglet. Anyone's like oho,And it's like, yeah, yeah,
I can understand if you're a creativeindividual, you've careered to show. You
sort of poured your heart and souland energy into it. And you know,
it sounds churlish to say, oh, you guys are digging it for

(06:45):
the wrong reasons, but you know, if you've got a vision of something,
I don't know, I think you'realso anticipating the response to it,
and when the response is different towhat you had in mind, you could
probably get a little frustrated by that. But they'd never been in a show
in this format before Seinfeld, wherethey'd prevented the audience from participating like that.

(07:05):
It's just like, oh, thisis a live sitcom. He's the
funny character. He's like the thewacky neighbor. That's who we're supposed to
gravitate towards. He's the see himall that often usually, so it's like
when he comes on stage, likeoh, yeah, he's our favorite's like
no, no, this is different. People, Shut the fuck up.
This isn't fucking Morgan Mendy, thisis this is si Feld. But yeah,
I really enjoyed that. And alsoI watched the on the Inside Look

(07:28):
Again, which is like a littlebind sand Stocker on the DVDs. And
Jason Alexander has said that this wassort of when the show writers and the
show runs realized that he was willingto have his physical attributes really be the
butt of a joke. You know, he's not fat, he's strong,
and he says like he was willingto be, in his words, a
sexual buffoon. And once sort oflike because he said at this point,
Larry's sort of he'd write jokes aboutbeing bored and things like that. You

(07:50):
sort of look at George, Isort of look at Jason, you okay
with this? And he'd be like, yeah, I'm fine. But this
is like this episode here was whenthey truly realized, Okay, we can
have some fun with George's weight, and we can, and Jason's not going
to feel bad about it. He'swilling to. He accepts who he is.
This is who he is, andhe's going to make the most of
it. And you know what Imean. And yeah, this is sort
of where he says the George characterreally flourished and they could really realize,
hey, we can make fun ofhim being born, make fun of him

(08:13):
being fat and short and things likethat, and that would go on to
become a rural part of the charactergoing forward. It's great when you've got
a performer like that, who's justI guess feel as Bulletproof gets I think
that's the Yeah, it's like, okay, well this is what you're working
with. You take advantage of that. Yeah. Yeah. It was written

(08:33):
by by Larry Charles and Lane Pops, and they have said that um or
Larry said that this happened to them. So they they had friends and they
try to fix them up and itjust went terribly. That's where I got
the idea for this. They pitchit to Jerry and Larry and they said,
you go right this straight away. And they won the Emmy for this
episode for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Writingin a Comedy Series and the Seinfeld's first

(08:54):
Emmy, I believe. Yeah.Yeah. And a cool little thing is
that Jerry actually read out the winnerat that year's award show, and they
knew that Jerry was going to bereading out the under the award. They
didn't never going to win, sothey said they were in the lima on
the way there and he wrote likethis speech and it goes for like five
minutes, and they got there, like you realize, if you win,
it's thirty second, he's gonna getfive minutes. And they just they scrutched
that up and wrote a new speechfor Jerry to read for them, and

(09:15):
you can actually find this on onon YouTube, and it're gonna goes for
like thirty seconds or so. ButJerry's reading the speech and it's they wrote
it in the way that Jerry istalking himself up, like you know,
he's a humanitarian and he's this andthe other. And then Larry Child rips
the note out of Jerry's hand says, coming, that's enough, as if
to say Jerry was like taking intoadvantage of the situation. But like it
was very, very funny. Ithought it was cool that Jerry Seinfeld got

(09:37):
to read out the first Emmy Awardwin for Seinfold, Like what are the
others? That's fantastic. Yeah,And also I like that they still reference
the past. Um So Elaine mentionshow George tried to poison his boss and
that's exactly what happened when he gotfired, remember in the Revenge. Yeah,
that is a good one. Butwhat were your favorite moment from The

(10:00):
Fix Up God? First of all, Yeah, just a great moment in
editing where it's in the very earlyscene where you I think it's Synthia saying,
oh, she's hopeless or she's desperateor something, and they cut to
George's eating spaghetti really badly or justbeing an absolute slob. I thought that
was fantastic, and it's a nicesort of seed plant for you know,
the very end of the episodes.I thought that was great. One thing

(10:22):
I noticed, and you know, this is done in the early nineties,
so people we may well be tapingit on their on their videocachet recorder.
Yeah whatever. But there's something Inoted that Jerry has his shelf full of
videotapes and there's a scene that actuallytakes place right in front of that,
and I'm pausing. There's some ofthe titles on these videotapes, and I

(10:43):
wrote some of them down. They'vegot titles like easy Love, Gunfights,
rug Burn, and one is justcalled the title. So it's like,
I'm wondering who you know, ifthere was a production design manager who did
that, or if it feels likesomething Larry David would do. Let's look
at si VHS tape titles. Whetherit's like one of those things that they

(11:05):
change each episode, because like, for example, in Friends, they have
the chalkboard or the whiteboard on theback of the channeler and jobby store or
whatever, is the us to writesomething different on every episode. Let's see
if that's the thing that goes onin Seinfeld? Does anyone know the meaning
behind the titles? Look at lookat it Reddit thread here from last year
or the VHS tapes. What arethe ones that you had? Easy Love,

(11:26):
gun Fights, Rugburn, that's probablymy favorite. Yeah, yeah,
so we've got easy Love. Gunfights are great men. He's another one
here, so yeah. So obviouslyit's just something that's made up. I
guess. Yeah. I don't thinkthese are actual. I mean it's like
Rochelle Rochelle or prognosis neg no,no, no, no, it's just
someone who got bought or it's likequick, we need titles. It's like

(11:46):
title. But you know, Imean, if if you're seeing something like
easy Love or Rugburn, you're assumingthese might be pornos. Yeah that's true.
But no. The thing is,though, this is an era where
freeze framing isn't really a thing.You didn't really put any easy. I
know the Simpsons were putting you inthere, but the Simpsons pulled out of
Eastern reag into the show not expectinganyone to ever finally except for themselves,

(12:07):
like they knew they'd be in there. But people, but people at home,
would never actually pick up on it. And then DVDs came around,
It's like, oh shit, wecan't hide anything anymore because they can free
name it. But yeah, Ithink the idea would have been just quickly
just write anything on that, likegunfights. That's pretty cool. What else
did you enjoy? I like thisbit about about buying condoms at the at

(12:28):
the pharmacists at the cameras do standup, wasn't it? Yeah? It
was good stick. I mean, something I've never understood though, is just
the embarrassment about buying condoms. Yeah, you know, it's like telling the
world you get late, what's wrongwith it. That's why I always sort
of looked at when I bought someoneI was younger, I was like,
that's right, I'm getting lucky, unless, of course, you know you're

(12:50):
thirteen years old or would well,of course they were probably thirteen year olds
out there who are getting laid goodon them. Yeah, it's and also
a acadims way being shy about it. So you buy the actual large ones.
It's like they're looking mate, comeon, I'm happy to sell them

(13:11):
to you. But yeah, let'sbe realistic. My favorite goals high.
That's fine, But I really enjoyedGeorge just immediately giving up when he finds
out that Cynthia didn't mention the phonecall. Oh well, I'll go did
it. But that's it. That'sit's over, immediately admits and concepts.
That's just going to be finished.I thought that was cool. I really
enjoyed the hair conversation. I thinklustrious hair is important to me. It's

(13:35):
important to you. Yeah, okay, I just want to clarify to you
it's very important thick, lustrious hair. Okay, then and well the heir
get stuck. I just thought Jerry'sresponse, and that was really Jerry is
very well. He's getting very goodat acting like Jerry. In the first
few episodes, first a couple ofseasons. Yeah, hit and Miss.
He's really finding his groove now. They're writing lines and comedy that fits his
abilities. That's yeah. I thinkthere's a few things in there, and

(13:56):
then one of those is very bangon that you know, they know what
the writers know what he's capable of, and tailoring the dialogue and the exchange
is all that to suit him.But also I think he's getting more and
more comfortable and more and more familiarwith the people that he's working with.
Yes, you know, and they'reable to pick up on each other's rhythms.

(14:18):
Like they say, if you wantto be a good chess player,
you play someone who's better than you. Jason Alexander and Julie Louie Draffus and
Michael Richards, they've all done theirtime in sketch. I think Julie Louie
Dreffus was on Saturday Night Live.Michael Richards was on another TV sketch show,
a sketch comedy show, yess.Alexander's an actor, so you know,
these are all people who sort ofhave a bit more experience than than

(14:41):
Jerry, and I think working alongsidethem or working with them, yeah,
it makes him a bit stronger. It's not just confidence with who he's working
with I think as his confidence inthe show is now finally succeeding the show
that people are now being as ahit show. So he's just got that
sort of he can tell. He'ssort of got that little aura of confidence
around him now where the first coupleof seasons it was kind of like,
yeah, I'm still trying. Yeah, I'm still trying to wigger who I

(15:03):
am. And now it's just likeI'm Seinfeld from Seinfeld. You know this
show is all about me. Andhe's just he's got the confidence. He
can really really tell all the wayhe's acting. Also, my final thing
here is George's excitement add impregnating somebody. I can do it. I did
it. I did it. Saymy boys can swim, My boys can
swim. They did it. Ican do it. It's so funny,

(15:26):
Like that's the feeling when when Nikolafirst said she was pregnant. I was
like, damn, I work, they work. We did it. Boys.
Could you spell that? Please? No? Next question, It's time
now for some trivia for the fixup. But before then, trying to

now time, mister Davis. Afterreading all those names, my breath back,
what's ther first question? I don'thave that many, okay for you,
I'm sorry, but let's start withhow much can George lift one hundred
pounds? He can lift one hundredpounds, which is why let's have a

(17:11):
look, say something like fifty fiveand two kilos? It is forty five
when I was just wrong. It'snot too bad. It's getting there.
My first question is Bob Sacamano gota job at a condom factory where it
was in Jersey? Right, Iwas in New Jersey. I'm pretty sure
they just say Edison, but yeah, oh okay, then I'm pretty sure

(17:32):
Edison is in New Jube. Yeah, but that's just yeah, okay,
okay. One point I was aboutto say I was right, except I
was wrong. How long did theconversation between the phone conversation between George and
Cynthia? Last good question I wantto say, was it, oh,

(17:53):
ship three hours? It's twenty minutes. Only twenty minutes? Nice? Yeah,
okay, there you go. Myfirst My next question is what word
does George used to describe Cynthia's voice? There's meliflus Yes, what's your next
question? Do you have any more? If I stolen your last one?

(18:15):
Melifluis was my last quass same?My final question is what time did they
get home from their dates? Waseleven eleven pm? It's a little bit
later than that. They say,Oh it's it's it's quarter to twelve,
and they're not haven't called me yet? Yeah? Oh eleven forty five?
All right? What is trivia forthe fix that. We'll be right back

(19:44):
The original airdate of The Fix Upwas February fifth, nineteen ninety two.
It was written by Larry Charles andElaine Pope and directed by Tom Sharonez.
Guest star and Maggie Wheeler as Cynthia. The episode kicks off with some
stand up describing or talking about aconductor at a show. I've always thought
this we went and saw Star wasand toy story. Recently, Nick and
I were with them with the LifeOrchestra, and like they're obviously doing something,

(20:04):
you know, but it's like,I don't understand. I'm always fascinated
by these wiggles of the wand howis that telling them what to do?
I don't I don't get it.I must admit I'm kind of curious about
it as well. This Will remindedme of two things. Brought things two
things to mind. First of all, weird, like a music competition when
I was back in school, andone of the moment that brought the house

(20:27):
down was one particular group had thiskid come out as conductor, and that
this kid's name was Will Morgan andWill wash It's popular guy, good sportsman,
very funny, probably the least culturedperson you'd ever meet. So for

(20:48):
him to come out with you know, conductor's baton and sort of stand in
front of them, you know, these kids playing music and just going everyone
was like yeah, And of courseeveryone was in on the joke. I
mean, Will was definitely on thejoke that that was very funny. Also,
there's a movie coming out I thinkearly next year called Ta Ta stares

(21:10):
Australian legend Kate Blanchett, and she'splaying like a symphony conductor, and I
must have been I'm looking forward toit primarily because apparently it's like, oh,
she's at the top of the game. He's you know, like one
of the best of the Lord.I'm like, well, maybe there's movie
they explain exactly what a conductor does, what makes that good one from a
bad one? Hopefully. Yeah, you're right. I imagine it's about keeping

(21:30):
the flow of them, keeping everybodyin sync. But do you mean there's
Jerry points out like, well, you were reading from the same pay can't
be that hard, Kennon. Dothey ever look up at the conductor or
are they not looking at their notes? Like at that the sheet music that
I've always just been fascinated by it. Yeah, I guess it's just sort
of steering the orchestra in the directionthat they need to go and making sure
that everyone, you know, someoneisn't playing too fast or you know,

(21:52):
the overall timber of the music isn'tspeeding up. It's like, no,
slow down, like let's go down. I don't know. I don't conductor
on the show as a guests toexplain it to us, what do you
reckon? Quite possibly without like we'dprobably end up with like a trainer trainer,
all right. So George thinks thathe just needs to accept that he's
never going to meet anybody. Maybeyou won't, he says, hard enough

(22:15):
to meet women you dislike much lesslike and Joey's it's just he's not passionalized.
But he's not really pay much attention. And my nostrils getting bigger now.
And George wants to know what isthe big deal? Why can't just
approach a woman say you know, hello, I'm George and whatnot? And
an attractive woman walks past. Hegets all flustered. Yeah that's me when

(22:36):
I was younger. I like, you like to pretend you confident with your
mates, and then a hot girlwalks over and you're like, oh,
I don't know what to do anymore. I remember one thing in particular,
and I don't know how I rememberthis because I was clearly drunk. Actually
at a bar in Hong Kong. This is back in but probably around the
time this episode came out, wentout and ended up in Hong Kong.

(23:00):
That's correct. I was living inHong Kong for a little while and out
of this out of this bar inthe nightclub district, and i'd I clearly
had a bit to drink, andI saw this very attractive woman across the
across the bar, and I wasjust drunk enough thing I should. I'm
just gonna go over and say hardto this woman, you know, and
see what happens from there. AndI think I made it to with it,
like a few feet of it,and I saw that she was just

(23:21):
so far out of my own thatit would have just been a fool's errand
and I think I just stopped hereand said you know what, no,
and then just walked away. ButI think actually said that it was like
you know what now, but clearlyin a way it was like okay,
and she knew it too, LikeI can't not in this arena. I

(23:44):
would love to see that in person, this this hot chick and a guy
approaching her and just stops like twofeet short and just goes noah back sway
like that would be hilarious to see, I think, but you also give
him props like at least he atleast he's aware enough to know don't embarrass
himself. But sometimes just think Iwas pretty emptily sometimes it's gonna go for
it. You never know, youcould have said something to us. She
might have been could be your wife, now that that is true. And

(24:07):
I think I was like pretty emptiblyjust like, you know what, this
isn't gonna win well for either. The fear of failures what holds us back,
isn't it? There is that absolutelyyep. I just I do have
a very fun memory that just likeno, no, just no men out
there, you know. I meanthe problem is the good ones. No,

(24:29):
they're good, they know they're insuch a man they're just not interesting
in confining themselves to one person.I hate the good ones. There's a
good question. I think he thinksshe is. The mediocre ones are available,
but they're so insecure about not beingone of the good ones that they're
always going one, I'm not goodthere for you? What are you doing

(24:49):
with that? And eventually I justgo, you're right. I just thought
Maggie Wheel was so funny throughout thiswhole episode, just everything. She just
she did it so well. Itwas it was odd though, hearing her
just talk and not yeah yeah, but I thought she was really good.
She um. She asked Elaine. Is Jerry a good one? He thinks

(25:11):
he is? I think I thinkhe thinks yea, which is perfect exactly
as sums up Jerry he thinks heis. She says she needs she needs
someone who's desperate, and then wecut to George with all the spaghetti all
over his face. And I thinkthis episode is the first time we've sort
of got the the implication of Georgeis a messy eater because it comes up
and learn the episodes with the otherSunday down his shirt and things like that.

(25:32):
But um, but yeah, he'sum kind of a slob. I
am in the camp of everyone atthe table when George is eating being disgusted
when it comes to eating your food, have some form of like restraint,
don't be an animal like oh yeah, And I hate me personally. I
hate loud chewers, like I hatewhen I can hear something. I hate
what I can hear, the foodin your mouth being munched up, like

(25:53):
close your mouth. God's sakes. It just really it's one of my pet
peeves and it sounds stupid, butit's me. No, no, look,
I'm I'm all too aware of it. I mean to the point where
you know I'll be asking something,Can I get an extra knapp and or
do? Then that'd be great, thank you, And he's take a bite,

(26:15):
wipe the mouth, another bite, white the beard. Yes, It's
funny how some meals when it comesto chips, right, some meals you'll
eat chips with a fork, andsome meals you're eating with your hand,
Like burger and chips. It's fineto pick up the chips with your hand,
but if you're having a steak you'regonna have you're gonna use the knife
and fork, right, I guessif everything on the on the on the
plate is um his hand for hisfinger fit, it's fine. But I

(26:37):
remember when I on a date witha girl once at the Sporting Globes long
before I met Nicola, and weboth got burger and chips. It was
like Burger Knight actually hit the burgerwith a knife and fork, and I
was like do I do that? Now? What if I do? And
I was like, fuck it,I'm not it's just awkward. So I
use my hands, my head, and I could tell she's like looking at
me, funny. He's like, look at this animal using his hands,
and I was like using a knifeand fork for a fucking burger, Like

(26:57):
what is going on? It wasthe most It was the most awkward dinner
because I can tell the entire timeI'm trying to have this conversation, but
the entire time I can tell she'sjudging me for using my hands to eating
a burger. I'll never forget that. It was so odd. Well,
there you go. There's there's aSeinfeld episode in itself, or at least
a part of the Seinfeld episode initself gotten to the point I'm flirting with

(27:18):
operators on the phone. I muchmade a deep wood one. So there's
still a hole. I don't whyhole Hope telling me my dream is to
become hopeless. Well, you're hopeless. You don't care. And when you
don't care, that indifference it makesyou attractive man. So hopelessness is the
key. Oh, that's that's justlike Larry David to a t. Janice

(27:45):
says, you know she's got marriedby the time she's fourdish, She's gonna
have to kill him mother, andshe just feels so sorry for her or
listen a bitter I could be youngand bitter. And she asked the lane
to them to order a piece ofcake and she's going to go throw up.
They slide into believe me a jokein here, and I was like,
as somebody's suffered through that, Iwas like, I laughed at it,
but I'm just like, wow, that's just like you didn't focus on

(28:07):
it. But I was like, shit, that's a fucking Believia joke.
Holy crap. Yeah, I mean, some feld's going for it. The
last episode was the suicide. Thelast episode of the week after was the
suicide, you know, and thenthe sneak in the eating disorder gag into
this one time wow because later laterI was like, whoa, okay,

(28:29):
cool. I thought I appreciate it. But when out at the apartment and
Jerry's hands are filthy from the newspaper, I should give you a wipeout the
river joint, I thought the samething when you're eating your newspaper and you're
like, what may have my handsall black? Just happened when I was
working back at the day, wewere packing boxes of pop culture. You
and I. You have to shovethe newspaper to the box. You get
the end of the day and youhands are all black and say oh god,
oh oh yeah. Now they areasked. Jerry asked Elaine what they

(28:52):
cheated about, and when she whenshe said, you know, the Federal
Reserve, the rainforest, I thoughtthat was her being sarcastic. I've got
I had my notes. They're sosimilar like that is like a smarmy response
that Joey would give her. Butthen she's like, oh no, she
thinks it would be good to um, you know, shut the rainforest down
in that way. We have tohave that conversation anymore. They don't get
the idea for the fix up.Actually, George was some rare form.

(29:18):
He just can't find anybody. Iknow. Cynthia too, she's really given
up George too. Yeah right,I've never fixed anybody yet. Oh me
neither. And I am not aboutto start with George. Well why wouldn't

(29:45):
you start with George? Do youthink she's too good for George? I
didn't say too good. Did Isay too good? Oh? You implied
it. I didn't say it.Because if you think she's too good for
George. You are dead wrong, dead wrong. Who is he? He's
George's but you don't think she's beautiful? What's with the eyebrows? You know

(30:15):
what your problem is, your standardsare too high. Not with you,
that's because my standards are too low. I like that Jerry was backing up
George because and Elane's backing up Cynthia. It's like they've got their friends,

(30:36):
their friends, but they've also gottheir own friends. And Jerry all his
faults aside. He will support Georgeto the end of the earth, like
he's backing it up. It's hisbest mate. But it's complicated, I
think because I think partly he's like, no, no, George is all
right. But I think it's alsoJerry's big upping himself a little bit because
he's like, he recommend he's withGeorge. Yeah, and any impression of

(31:03):
George is reflected on Jerry's what It'slike, why are you friends with this
guy? Yeah? It's sometimes abit of an old one to to work
out. So yeah, because I'mI wrote, does Jerry really think George
is that good? And I don'tknow. It's it's an interesting one.

(31:23):
Jerry then points out her eyebrows, and I was like, what's wrong with
her eyebrows? I rewound at thatpoint and I was like, eyebrows look
perfectly normal to me. I don'tunderstand what's wrong with the eyebrows. But
you know your standards too high?Well, I went out with you because
you because my standards are too low. That's where we get the low like
the married with children kind of responsefrom the crowd there. M Alaina mentions

(31:44):
that you know her eyebrows, youknow, some women pluck them all out
of their heads and draw them onjust to have. Some women would kill
to have eyebrows like that, whichcomes in later on, which I thought
was pretty cool George's and he saysthat George is fast and he's strong,
and I tell you he can beata hook, like never to beat it,
like when you went fishing with mates. Some mates can't beat a hook,
and you feel like it's kind oflike when you say to a guy,

(32:05):
put a shelf up and they can'tput a shove up. You feel
like less of a man. Ohyeah, it's like my day would take
your fish and he's like, baitthe hook, and I'm like my head,
I'm like I don't really know howto do this. Let's just fucking
wing it. Let's just shove, just get this hook and to shove stuff
on. Dad's like you fucking I'mlike, I'm so sorry. Well,
you never taught me. You nevertaught me. It's terrible. I mean

(32:28):
when you're at that age, orat any age, because it can still
happen, you know, when youthink you're old enough to know about it's
like, man, I don't knowhow to do this, Can you show
me? I mean, it's thesimplest thing in the world to say.
We've had this discussion before where wediscussed how we can't drive manual cards.
People these days like it's like somuch of a big deal. But I
went for a job, as Iwas saying, and they're like, can
you drive manual? Yeah? AndI was like, oh, I can

(32:50):
learn. Like you can't drive manual. I'm like, I'm so sorry.
As we said, if it's easyto drive, order just fucking make what
what's the need for manual? Idon't there, but it's one of those
things where driving a manual car.If you can't drive manual. I remember
Nicolas, Dad was like had amanual car and then he found out that
I couldn't drive these all about vehicles, and he found out I couldn't drive
a manual. I could just tellyou look to me like less of a

(33:12):
man. I don't care, man, I don't care, buddy. But
Jerry, he thinks it's a goodidea. You know, are we going
to share information like every secret? What if it worked out? Yeah?
Right, So Jerry's revealing there thathe doesn't think this is gonna work.
You just think it's gonna be fun. The power are they're going to have
over each other, all the gossthey could tell each other. So George,
you know, cuts of George,it's out of the question. It's

(33:34):
not going to happen. It's onestep away from a personal ladd and prostitutes.
And then comes back out what doesshe look like? And this whole
conversation about describing how each other lookedlike. You can just tell anyone who's
gone through a fix up, thisis exactly what would happen. Oh yeah,
I mean you have to become asalesman or yeah, like their agent
or something. No, No,they're really how do I sell it to

(33:57):
them? How do I how doI tell them the truth? Not the
real truth, but the truth andenough to get them. Well, I'm
not necessarily lying, but I'm nottelling them everything just yet, really accentuating
the positive, you know, anddown and down playing the negative as you
know, as honestly as you can, but also as you know, being
as good as salesman as you possiblycan as well. I watch this with

(34:20):
Nicola and Nicola when George asked whather her body is like, Nicholas like,
I don't reckon they do this anymoreTV. And I'm like, you're
probably right if you know what thething is, that's exactly what a guy
would ask. That's any guy thatsays he wouldn't ask as full of shit
like you would one hundred percent askthat. I've never been part of a
fix up. I've never been setup on a date, but you like,
this is the kind of question thatpeople would ask, what's it?

(34:42):
And Cynthia asked the same thing, was he look like, what's it?
Is? He fat? Is he? This? It's just we're humans.
Well, you know, it's justpart of it. It's part of who
we are. We want to knowif if I'm going on a date with
somebody, I want to know whatthey look like, do they have a
good body? If they don't havea good body, that doesn't mean I'm
not going to go in the date. I'd just like to know what I'm
getting myself involved with. No,it's it's nice to know a little bit
before you actually meet someone. Youknow. It's funny very surely, surely

(35:06):
I know this is the time tobe four smartphones. Surely they've got photos
of each other. Surely Jerry hasa photo of George. Somewhere they can
get to a land that she cango show Cynthia. But anyway, it
doesn't matter. But yeah, what'sit? Body like? That's really very
nice and good? And I can'tdo the woman's smarter than me? How

(35:27):
because she'd be smarter than you.But it's incredible. Yet, how are
these people who initially were like,oh, I think I'm just going to
be hopeless, or you know, are generally sort of pessimistic people are being
very very picky exactly the potential they'vegone from. I want someone who's hopeless
and desperate too. Well, youknow, he can't be fat, and

(35:47):
he can't be this, and he'sbalding. What do him? It's like
you said you wanted this, Yeah, bald Or balding, Yeah, yeah,
bald Or boarding. That was great. He's had a lot of character
in his face. He's short,he's hockey you mean, he's fat,
He's powerful, And I like, how like what Jerry used to sell George
to Elaine, she's now using tosell to Cynthia and vice verson with you

(36:07):
know, they kill for eyebrows likethat. So like the things that Elaine
used to sell Cynthia to Jerry,he's now using to sell to George.
And then we get the assment thatthey're flowing? Is the heaf flowing hair?
I like thick cascading hair. Doesthe hand get stuck in the hair?
What is her chickslow? Is ita pinkish hue? And Jerry's just

(36:30):
response to all this is just likeperfect. And then the women were killed
to have our eyebrows. And Ihope she's not too sweet because that can
make you throw up. She likesto throw up like Cynthia then asked if
he's ever been married. I honestlythink sorry, just just just a quick
thing. I mean, the believingthing doesn't really come into it all that
much other than you know, there'sthe there's a line at the start,

(36:52):
which is order mean, Pisa goingto throw up. Then it's never really
sort of mentioned again. I thinkit's really just a set up for that
line. That's while I was justlike, they just throw this polemia gag
in there, which has no bearingon the story. It's just there.
But you know why not. Youknow, people go through it. It
happens. We can look back andyou gotta at least acknowledge it, you
know what I mean, that's notI don't think they don't treat it like

(37:14):
it's a butt of a joke.No, it's just that's what that's what
she's doing. But yeah, Cynthiaasked if she's married, and Aline says
he wants better weaken with a woman, and Cynthia is just, I'm too
sure about this guy. So Georgeand Cynthia have had an incredible phone conversation.
Threw away his notes halfway through.I love that George always writes notes
for his phone conversations. Oh yeah, you know, he thinks she could
do voice over commercials. Her voiceis watched mister Davis and there's mellifluous.

(37:37):
Yeah, and then he's like, this is our dates should go two phones
on a table done. I'm perfecton a phone conversation. And that's that's
the thing. When I used tobe talking to girls over the phone.
He's so much more confident, aren'tyou when you're on the phone. Oh
yeah, you're like a superman.She doesn't even know what I'm naked,

(37:58):
right, No, no, noat all. But yeah, it's just
I thought it was really really cool. Lane walks in that she's really really
happy for him. It's gone,it's gone so great. And what does
she say about the conversation. Shedidn't really mention it. She didn't mention
it. And then George just giveus up. Shout away is so perfect.
Then we get Cramer entering with thewith the hollering from the yes and
he just talks over the top ofthem. He enters the cheers that he

(38:20):
says Bob Sacramento, he's got thegig at the condom factory and Edison and
he gave him a gross what areyou gonna do with him? All?
Well, love, He tells themlater to take half a back whatever,
hooker, George, I'll take one. It's possible. Plus, you know,

(38:42):
in my time using holloms, Idon't think I've ever used like a
colored one. It's gone for thebasic transparency. Yeah, your your sex
life was as vanilla as could possiblybe. Correct. I think I had
well, I think that I broughtthe flavor. Yeah, yeah, I
don't need to gussie it up withlike checking out baby. It's the Crimson

(39:04):
carndom, the vanilla frosting. Butthen we get some more stand up about
by the problem with buying a condom, which we discussed earlier, which I
just thought Joey is really good attimes with his physical comedy. Just that
the nod like it's he absolutely.I thought this is one of his best
stand ups he's shown on the showso far. We're don't get Jerry in
a land on the phone. It'salmost like they've got their own little relationship
happening on the side. It's likeit's become a game to them. We

(39:27):
spoke to them yet, Yeah, she didn't call me yet either. It's
looking forty five. They both thencall up, so I got off the
phones and full disclosure. You know, I'll vault it. I'll vault it.
And we've all had moments who havesaid that to somebody and it's like
they know and we know it's notgoing to be vaulted. It's going to
come out. But I remember Isaid to like my mate. My mate
said to me something about they're havinga Baby's like, don't don't tell Nikola.

(39:47):
I'm all right. He knew Iwas going home to the town.
Nikola, you have to tell somebody. Yeah, I think when you've got
a situational that, yeah, you'vegot to take into account. Like,
okay, well, yeah, I'mgonna tell someone. But how many people
are they gonna tell? Yeah? How big is the circle gonna be?
How wide is it gonna rache? So you say you can just tell one
person, that's fine. All right, Look I'm gonna tell you. But

(40:08):
I made a path with Cynthia. We swore we were not going to tell
you in Elane, you can tellme, I'll vault it. It's in
the vault. I'm locking the vault. What we had sex? Did you
get sex? How did that happen? I don't know. I closed my
eyes and made a move your apartment. Yeah she didn't stay, No,

(40:28):
she left. But listen, youcan't mention any of this to Elane.
Cynthia will kill me. We madea deal. Oh my god, he
was uncomfortable because it was our firsttime, so he felt he would perform
better if we did it in thekitchen. He says, the kitchen is
always the most sociable room in thehouse. And he was serious, So

(40:49):
how was it? How good couldit be? My head was on a
hot plate. But George is annoyeddad because he's left three messages and he
feels used, cheap and violent becauseshe hasn't called back. And Jerry's just
not impressed at all, because it'sjust like, hey, O, I
vouched for you. Now she's makingme look bad and she's not going to
get away with this. And Georgelike, you know what, I made

(41:10):
small talk with the waitress. Youknow, I'm a man of the people.
They'll talk to the commoners and lookedat the commoners, and then Joey's
like, I'm going to call it, and George like, no, no,
don't, don't do it. Don'tdo it. I thought it was
Mike Rich has done a great jobhere. I've just being the guy between.
Like he was being such a sucha good friend, such a ment
this tour. It's like the plentyof women out there for all of us.

(41:30):
Really, you're killing George, I'llstop it. I'll just I don't
care. I can't do that,Sun Like, I don't want to hear
another word out of either one ofyou and the next one of you that

(41:53):
opens up your mouth. That's somethingyou're gonna have to deal with me,
you know. I know if thisis about it's about a woman, isn't
it. Yeah, but yeah, this is exactly what they want to do
to you. They play one againstthe other. You can't let them manipulate
you like that. But I wantyou guys to shake that. Come on,

(42:14):
there are plenty of women out therefor all of us. Let's go.
Yes, you see, isn't thatbetter than fighting animosity? I mean,
you want to fight with somebody, you fight with me. Oh,
by the way, George, youknow those condoms I gave you, they're
defective. Don't use them home Andthen the roles reverse, so like then

(42:37):
Jerry becomes the man in between becausehe says to George, why don't think
you're gonna have to use them?George gets I right. Jerry becomes a
man in the middle, and Cynthiasays to Elaine that she's missed her period.
Elaine realizes, oh shit, Iknow why Jerry. Then we get
Jerry trying to twistle the little ofa soda but he can't do it.
Those a little life of me.But I felt like a a big focus

(43:00):
on something so small. But Iguess that's what sign Found's all about.
Oh yeah, yeah, that's anotherthing too, about what when Nicholas says
I can't unscrew this lid? Whatceshe hands out to me. The pressure
immediately goes onto me. I'm like, if I can't open this jar,
now, might was get divorced? When they say can you open it for
me? It's like, oh shit, if I can't open it, now,

(43:22):
what do I do? And sometimesyeah, you've just got one that's
just stuck or just on a littlebit too far and no one's getting it
off without, you know, sortof having to google tight lid on salsa,
you know, and he put itunder a hot tap or something that'll
experience a little bit, but youknow, if you can't just grab it
and go, yeah, you're feelinglike less of a man. Elena arrives

(43:44):
and what's the problem with your flakyfriend? I know her type and pushes
in and there getting all angry ateach other. She call. He calls
it bitter and twisted. Oh,bitter might be a judgment, but I'll
tell you she's twisted. And thenhe's like, I'm calling you a lie
of your one and then she pointsin his finger you get that thinker out
of my face and breaks them allup again. Don't two of you see

(44:06):
that you're in love with each otherand they're not? Like this is pretty
much like if this was any othersitcom, that would be the story,
wouldn't it be? Will they won'tthey be Ross and Rachel? You know,
and they clearly are perfect for eachother. But the show wouldn't succeed
if they were together. No,absolutely not. So I mean, and
I think you've got you know, some fans of the show do any bit
of shipping, like, oh,Jerry Lane wouldn't be great if they were

(44:29):
together, and they can enjoy thatfantasy. But yeah, I think the
show was way too smart to putthem together. I were affect him.
How did you know they weren't fuckup? Mister period? Mister period?

(44:52):
Oh my god, I can't believeit. I'm a father. Now we're
on the date here with Before Georgeand Jerry arrived, Cynthia is explaining how
George he stepped up to the plate. I was like, what a dude.

(45:14):
Oh yeah, he was like, you got my full support. Like
I'm just like, okay, it'sgonna work out for these guys. But
here's the thing. I mean, you're saying, you know, I'll support
you whatever you choose. I waslike, if she wants to have the
baby. If she does want tohave the Baby's like no, I mean,
George has been very progressive, verysensitive. Good on him before he
knew that she wasn't pregnant. Ofcourse, so that's where the branding points

(45:35):
come from. Jerry and George arriveand Joey pretends to have a limp like
that's just me. It's just it'ssomething stupid for no reason other than try
and be funny. But they're thebest seat in the house. And she
says, right next to the kitchen. I was like, hey, nice,
threw back, Let's go back therenow. No, It's what I
like about that line is that atfirst she were saying how much she hated

(45:57):
having sex in the kitchen. Youknow, she felt comfortable, bla blah
blah. It wasn't nice. Sheleft you went home. Now that George
has made a good impression. It'slike, oh yeah, we can fucking
kitch you whenever you want you now, buddy, Like it changes a whole
out. We're going to having sexin the kitchen because now George has sort
of stepped up to the plate.Hot planet, we said, and George
then immediately eats like a pig.It kind of came across a bit much
because to me personally, I can'tsee George the way he is and focusing

(46:22):
on the little details being such apig. I can understand that the Sunday
dripping onto his shirt and things likethat, but the whole eating what the
Simpsons kind of do? I waslike, I felt a bit out of
character. No, No, itreally should have just been like he,
you know, took a big biteto something and just had a big smear
on the side of his face.Yeah, which has happened to me on
more than one occasion. And youknow, the lovely the ways I'll look

(46:43):
across me and go, yeah,do do the face thing on the finger
on the face. Oh man,I'm a slub. I don't deserve this
woman. She's like, you're right, it's your leaves. Yeah. So
it was that aside, I thoughtthis, Yeah, but I just thought
Maggie Will was fantastic in this. And let me get some stand up at
the end about the power chip frombeing having the fix up and you know,

(47:06):
God's the first person that's set upAdam and Eve and and we go
from there. So um. Yeah, so another solid episode of Seinfeld.
It's not by any means a classicone, but it's one of those things
where you're watching you just feel likeyou're watching real people just having a normal
conversation. That's that. But that'swhat's funny about it. It's not necessarily
a gag heavy. It's just whatpeople say in real life, and that's

(47:27):
what makes it funny. Yeah, and I think it deserved that that Emmy
based on that. Yeah, it'sa very it's a very written episode,
if you know what I mean. It's like, Yeah, they put a
lot of effort into the writing ofit. So yeah, it deserved its
prize. And then yeah, lookit's not up there with the best of
the best, absolutely, but it'sperfectly fun episode. I had a good

(47:50):
half hour watching The Fix Up.Yes, all right, guys, well
that is our review of The FixUp. I hope you enjoyed it the
next episode, so that there's atwo part episode me up with the Davis,
The Boyfriend Part one and part two. Are we going to do an
episode on part one and an episodeon part two? Are we going to
do it as a double whammy becauseit might throw off all It will throw
everything off if we can join theminto one episode. So what do you

(48:13):
want to do the Boyfriend Part oneand part two? I think that they
believe they add at the same time, so they add back to back.
So do you want to just dothe boy Just do the Boyfriend as an
episode? The problem is it's goingto be a long one because it's gonna
be an hour's worth of content toreview. So she would do part one
and part two? Or should wereview it as one single thing? I
think we should do it as onesingle thing. Let's do it all right,
So the next episode of Sifer willbe The Boyfriend Part one and Part

(48:34):
two together, so look out forthat. Also, like do here on
Talking Sin Found is each week we'regoing to chuck out a potential episode idea
and we need you guys to sendin your storylines for that episode for each
character. So the episode this weekis going to be what mister Davis,
I think we go with the fingerpoint yeah, or the point as the
point yeah, because yeah, Elainemakes a big show of putting a finger

(48:57):
in Jerry's face, and he's nothe's not big on the point. He's
not big on someone pointing a fingerin his face. We feel like it's
something that could be spun off intoa whole episode. It's a it's an
exciting incident that could become a rollickinghalf hour of comedy. So Talking Seinfeld
at gmail dot com sending your ideasfor the point. What would Cramer,

(49:20):
George, Elaine and Jerry be doingin this episode? Let us know and
we'll read at your answers on nextweek's show. Talking Seinfold at gmail dot
