Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey everyone, Jake Carter here and welcome back to tap
out of overthinking. To Day's episode is all about something
we could all use a little more of self compassion.
You know that feeling when you mess up, make a mistake,
or just don't quite hit the mark. That inner critic
can be brutal. Right, we beat ourselves up, dwell on

(00:23):
the negative, and sometimes even sabotage our own progress. But
what if I told you there's a better way, a
way to treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding
you'd offer a close friend. That's exactly what we're diving
into to day. Self compassion isn't about ignoring your shortcomings

(00:43):
or giving yourself free passes. It's about acknowledging them with kindness,
learning from them, and moving forward without judgment. Think of
it as the ultimate superpower, the ability to be your
own best friend in those tough moments. So how do
we cultivate this amazing self compassion muscle? Let me share

(01:05):
five key takeaways that can totally transform your relationship with yourself.
First things, First, recognize that everyone makes mistakes, seriously, every on.
It's part of being human. We're not robots programmed for perfection.
We're complex beings, learning and growing every day. When you

(01:28):
slip up, instead of berating yourself, acknowledge it, learn from it,
and move on. Remember a single misstep doesn't define you.
It's just one small chapter in your incredible story. Next,
practice mindful self talk. Ever catch yourself engaging in that
negative inner dialogue I'm not good enough, I always mess

(01:52):
things up, or what a loser? Sound familiar? Well, it's
time to hit the reset button. Start paying attention to
those thoughts and challenge them with kindness. Replace those harsh
judgments with supportive affirmations like I'm learning and growing, this
is an opportunity to learn something new, or I'm doing

(02:14):
my best. Third, be kind to yourself when you're struggling.
Life throws curveballs, and sometimes we all need a little
extra support. When you're feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or down, treat
yourself with the same compassion you'd offer a loved one.
Take a break, indulge in something that brings you joy,

(02:35):
reach out to someone you trust, or simply give yourself
permission to rest and recharge. Remember, self care isn't selfish,
it's essential. Fourth, celebrate your successes, big and small. Too
often we focus on our shortcomings and forget to acknowledge
our wins. Make a conscious effort to celebrate your achievements,

(02:58):
no matter how minor they may see. Did you finally
finish that project, acet a presentation, mastered a new skill.
Give yourself a high five or a celebratory dance, because
every victory deserves recognition. Finally, remember that self compassion is
an ongoing journey, not a destination. There will be days

(03:21):
when you're kicking butt and feeling amazing, and there will
be days when the inner critic takes over. That's perfectly normal.
Just keep practicing, keep showing your self kindness, and remember
that you're worthy of love and acceptance just as you are.
Let me tell you a quick story about this. I
used to be obsessed with hitting every deadline, every goal,

(03:43):
every single time. If I missed even one tiny thing,
I'd beat myself up mercilessly. Then one day I realized
how exhausting and counterproductive that was. It wasn't helping me
grow or achieve anything. It was just creating unnecessary stress.

(04:04):
So I started to practice self compassion when deadlines loomed.
Instead of freaking out, I took deep breaths, reminded myself
that I was doing my best and focused on tackling
the task at hand one step at a time. Guess
what my productivity actually increased. So there you have it, folks.

(04:27):
Cultivating self compassion isn't just about feeling good. It's about
unlocking your true potential and living a more fulfilling life.
Remember to treat yourself with kindness, celebrate your wins, learn
from your mistakes, and never underestimate the power of your
own inner strength. Now go out there and rock your world.
