Speaker 1 (00:01):
Bad Comic Podcast. Okay, welcome back to that comic podcast.
I'm your host, Mettie, and I'm here with the horror
Master Buzz and good old Pete features. What's going on, gents.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
We're trying to make this quick because we all got
a chance to watch Marvel Zombies for the first time.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
I actually got to crush it.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
These two got to watch the first partially second episode,
but we had to jump in and give our first
thoughts because good lord, all right, who this is one
of the best things Marvel's done in forever.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
It's pretty good, man. It was so good.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
I need them to write like that for all the movies,
all of them.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Well, apparently this was supposed to be a movie, but
because of Spider Man rights, they had to cut it
down into a far apart TV show so to speak.
It is technically a season one, but it was originally
supposed to be a Disney Plus movie, but they weren't
allowed to do that with the rights to Spider Man,
so they finagled the rule a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
That's also why he never mind.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
They just blocking again.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Well, let's let's go back to the beginning, and let's
so this is a continuation from the what If storyline
that we saw in the first season or what If,
which I would argue is by far one of the
best episodes. Yes, so this is a continuation of that story.
So it does take place right at the Infinity War
endgame portion of the MCU, and this.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Is an alternate future from that point.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
So because it is a a so it's a very
different take to Marvel Zombies, but it plays heavily off
of the events that took place in what If, So
I would strongly urge everybody to watch that episode once
before getting into this because it does pick up very,
very very much on the heels of what happened in
(01:56):
that So a good refresher to take because it was
quite a while since the Marvel Zombies have been present anywhere,
let alone Disney.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Plus, yeah, I.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
Was gonna say, uh, it was a what If episode. Yeah,
did really well, like a lot of people talking. So
now it's getting like it's even serious, And it just
shows you the power of the fandom and when something's good,
if you holler about it, they're gonna give you more
of it.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Oh yeah, and I think well, I also think that
comes off of Werewolf by Night as well.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
I think the Werewolf by Night did so well that they.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Were like, we really gotta we gotta tackle this a
little bit harder than we've been because the occult side
of Marvel seems like it's the secret sauce.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
To a lot of people's integ No, it is, and
it's it's great for spooky season. They can have something,
some type of content they can just pop out and
it'll probably be amazing.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Although shocking that they released it in September, Yeah, like
it have it.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
I think it gets the time for like the popularity
of it and how cool it is to get around. You know,
you don't want to release it on like Halloween so
that like people aren't watching it into December.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Yeah, but you could have easily given us one episode
a week leading up to Halloween, with the finalely on Halloween.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
I would have been I mean smarter. Yeah, it deserves
it too, because it is that good.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
It feels like it was almost like, ah, damn, we
can't make it a movie.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
I cut it up, put it out there.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
I mean, this are you're saying this could be a
feeler for them, right?
Speaker 1 (03:15):
I would like to believe it is.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
I mean it does say in Disney plus season one,
which would let me, would lead me to believe there
is hopes for a season two. Otherwise, why have that
even written there? Why wasn't this just a special presentation
called a day? But it does say season one, and
you know we got a season one because of what if?
And what if wasn't that great all things considered, you
(03:38):
know what I mean? So yeah, it's probably feelers. It's
I mean, it's probably fair to say it's all.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Feelers at this point. I think mar I think Marvel
and Disney are just trying very hard to figure out
how to get fans back. I think they are so
scared of how much they've lost in regard to Star
Wars and Marvels fandom that they are trying to backtrack
as best as possible.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
More so Marveled, less so Star Wars. But you can
still see it over there as well.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Well. I want to be, if not the first to
say another to say, good job keep going.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Yeah that Marvel's been doing really well man. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
The books have been great, the shows have been great,
and what's it called the recent movies have been great.
I mean, I know, fantastic for us, a little divisive,
but I personally thought it was great.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
That was great, I loved it.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
But what they're probably sick of losing money?
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Yes, yeah, no question.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
I think I'm gonna just do what the comments say
over and over and over again.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
Easy fix it.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Really, it is the easiest fix in the world, because
it's not like as a fandom they were like quiet well,
it wasn't like you had to read minds to know
what they wanted.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
They were just like dis please, no, I'm not getting that. Damn.
They just stop showing up.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
So I wonder if all of this is too little,
too late, But again that who That remains to be seen.
But for those of us who have stuck in and
got to this moment where it is on this upward tick,
this is a really nice entry and one that you
didn't expect to be as good.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
As it is. No spoilers. As I said, this doesn't
technically need to be spoiled.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
There is a lot that happens, but it is an
elseworld's thing, so all the things that happen don't really
matter or.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Mean anything, but they are. They don't pull punches, I
will This is not a because it's not a kid's show.
This is definitely a more adult show.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
And if you've seen the first episode, believe you me,
it only gets crazier as each of those episodes go.
It's not it's not the same as the what if.
The what if try to play it safe and still
make it very kid friendly.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
This this is not it. No, it's not.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
Yeah, even Walking Dead meets Marvel.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Did you see that picture? Yeah? Did you see that poster?
I thought that was really cool that they did that.
Don't open Avengers inside? Yeah, I thought that was really
cool that they did that for the walk in bed.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
But there were some clever stuff in there. The way
the logo came in it was very dead, the way
with the music, like it's like somebody's taking cues. And
if I don't know that it was written by zeb Wells, yes,
like someone who writes a lot of the comic stuff.
So yeah, I feel like they're paying attention this time,
and it shows. I mean, yes, we're talking about it
like this.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Well, and I mean it's the last time they did
a horror entry. We were just as ecstatic. I mean,
Werewolf by Night even Hell where that was so good
that when it came out in color, we were like,
well we got it watch that.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
I think the biggest complaint about that was that it
was too short. Yeah, I think anybody like didn't like it.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
You know, we haven't gotten bladed yet.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Well technically.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
That's well, no, that's not really that's like I'm gonna
say this because again it's in the trailer. Until war
shows up, you're gonna feel real good about name war fare.
I can't tell you that you're gonna look whoa buddy,
there's a couple of characters that really stand out, But
I will tell you you have no idea to the
level of absurdity that the plot gets to by the
(07:05):
final episode. You have no idea how wild this show
really gets, and who characters that pop up out of nowhere,
and how they treat different characters, and who's zombie, who's not,
who makes it who doesn't, Because this is not like
your favorite Avengers not maging it to the end, and
this more than likely Yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
It's not the Earth two one two five from The
Ultimate's Fantastic four run right. I don't think this they
introduced the Marvel zombies for the first time.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
I mean, I guess theoretically they could say it is.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
I guess this all depends on whether or not Kevin
good old Keevy Fage has decided to give up on
the MCU being.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Six one six. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
Yeah, because if the is six one six, this can
be whatever the hell they want it to be. If
it's has its actual numerical.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Birth name.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
I don't know what the hell you call a universe's name,
but whatever it's number that it was originally given, if
it still has, then this has to be its own thing.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Yeah, I mean, it seems like it's its own thing already.
I was just curious if you guys had known anything
about that, because nope, I know that was an ultimate
fantastic four twenty one to twenty three was where they
introduce the Marble Zombies.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Yes, yes, and they first run I is the only
one that I've I went through the whole thing. I mean,
I want to go back and read numbers the second
volume of the third volume. And then there's also the
ones that just dropped. I mean last week was a
Marvel Zombie book, a bag book nonetheless two.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
I was trying to ask you how many actual Marvel
Zombie stories.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
That are they think there's three volumes.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
There was the one where they were which buzz is
talking about when they are reaching out to the Fantastic Four.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
The Fantastic Four is all excited because they're like, we
made contact and they open it up and they're like,
oh god, no, he.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
Might be okay.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
He seems like a really intelligent, older wiser read.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
But my favorite one by far, which I think is
just volume one, is the Galactus spoiler alert for the books,
I will say that, but the one where we learn
about how Marvel Zombies differ from standard zombies, where that
if they eat, they regain their intelligence and they also
get the powers of any super being that they eat.
(09:13):
So that's when we so like, remember how you know
never mind, I'm not I have to watch what is
in the what if episode versus what was in the show,
so I'm not.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
I don't want to give up.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Spoilers accidentally, so I'm going to back out of some
things that happened that they eat. They are one hundred
percent paying homage to from the original Marvel Zombies. But
that again, that concept of them eating and staying intelligent
is the best part of the book.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Like the fact that I love that Hulk is only
Hulk when he's zombie.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
But the moment he eats, he goes back to Banner,
but Banner's stomach can't handle what he eats, so the
femur just pops out.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
He's like, oh, man, I think I read that one.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
I think I read that's the first one.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
That's the one that they're hunting down Magneto and he
gets his head cut off one and then they eat,
they and they here's big spoiler alert when they eat
when Galactus shows up, and then they eat Galactus and
then you get galactic Marvel zombies that are going world
the world.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
No, they're tiny, they just they just look like Galactus.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
And they all just show up on a planet like together,
as like a horde of Galactus zombies.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
So you said something, I think that that could be
important to them. If they make the Marvel Zombies thingk
an ongoing like Halloween thing for them. They have that
many stories they can just make up because this thing
doesn't end.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
It s not really, because that's why I'm saying this
is its own thing, because these zombies are not the
zombies that get smart when they eat. It's not like
Cap understands who Cap is right, and it's not that
he has to eat in order to retain his abilities,
like he doesn't just go mindless zombie.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
These zombies maintain So we're I gotta think about what
you guys have seen, what you have.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Each of the Avengers, without giving anything away, still maintain
their key abilities in zombie form because of how good
they We're at it. So when you do run across characters,
and we saw this in the What If when Bucky
was fighting Cap and Cap.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Was still throwing his shield, you know what I mean.
So yeah, yeah, yeah, you're can remember your powers right right, well,
and they play off that. They do a really good
job of taking.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
The short little what If episode and expanding it into
something that's not only two hours of interesting storytelling, wild
violence and really crazy action set pieces, but how.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Chaotic the story becomes and how where it goes. I
promised you you have no idea on that final episode.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
Already, and I have all Right, I'm off the pod,
I'm gonna go watch.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
I'm for real. I understand that mentality because it it is.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
We will talk about this at a later show when
everybody actually gets a chance to watch it, but I
will say that that final episode is a crazy spectacle,
and I will promise you Buzz. You will be very
happy with how they treat a zombie property that also
flow and deals with superheroes. It's really cool how they
connect the two. It's beautifully done. Well, it's gory, horrifically done,
(12:16):
but beautifully done.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
I want to say.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
As I was watching his buzz, I thought of you,
and I was like, I don't know if the buzz
is going to like this just because be kind of
the superhero apartment. I was like, no, because of that,
it makes it fantastical.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
He made a superhero zombie. I don't know, but he
has my brain forming together in everything I've ever wanted.
If I don't like it, I need to quit now.
I don't think you know, I don't know. You may
have not noticed that it was real quick.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
It's only flashes real fast, but when it says Marvel
Zombies and it slowly zooms in.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
And for a quick second it just goes, hey, what's
that buzz and then it goes into the show. I mean,
this ship was made for today, sir. I thought about
h and it deserves the accolades that it's getting. I actually,
you know what, I'd be honest with you. I don't
even know if it's getting accolades I have.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
It's we're so early into this thing coming out and
I was getting a chance to watch it. I don't
know how people are reacting, but I would be I
would I would be flabberg acid if people weren't as
excited about this as I am.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
If I had to go off of your reaction and
imagine that there's a good number of population that people
like you. People are too amazed right now to actually
go off. They're probably watching it again in amazement.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Oh the amount of people who are going to be
watching this to just try and find Easter eggs.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
Oh, you can see much in there.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
There's just a lot going on. And dude, again again,
the final showdown is so wild.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
This is the hardest spoiler free for you, isn't it.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Well it's not. It's it is, and it isn't because again,
it's so buzz.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
It is.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
Dude, alone's getting chainsawhand. I know, no, no, no, you
know what. It's funny when it happens, you're gonna go, oh,
that's what he was talking about. I can't wait. I'm
gonna crush it like you're gonna it's a it's a
good I strongly urge everybody, when you get a chance,
go watch that. If you haven't, if you've given up
on Marvel, too bad, go watch it. You know what
(14:15):
I mean? This is this.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
Deserves to be to be a This deserves to be
It's a technic how Hawkeye is to Christmas.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Like Hawkeye, I still watch the final episode every Christmas.
I will now watch Marvel Zombies every single time Halloween
rolls around. It needs to. I feel like that you
could just do the next five years of that. You
should they have one hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Should keep this going and just and give me different
universes because again multiverse.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
Yeah, that's what I'm saying, Like, they can keep this going.
This is how fantastic can they make the stories?
Speaker 4 (14:51):
I mean, if they keep the people in this crew involved,
I mean, they're gonna keep getting better hopefully, you know.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Yeah, yeah, all right, Well I'm gonna spoil stuff if
we if we go any further, but I give it
a strong A plus, A strong A plus.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
I mean maybe a A if I'm being super picky,
but I'm not.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
I really enjoyed myself and it's one of the few
things that is come out episodically like this that I
didn't just give up on after an episode or two,
because I knew that you guys were only going to
get a chance to watch one episode and I was
off today, so I was like, oh, maybe I'll just
parcel this out.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
No way in hell, No way in hell.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
Yeah, I was gonna say that it's from what I've
seen so far, it's dark, it's cinematic, and it's like, Okay,
we're taking this seriously.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Now, and that that's the best way to part it.
It takes itself very seriously and it needs to and
that's why it works.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
It's get a five star ranking out of me. I
understand it's a cartoon, but I actually got caught by
a jump scare. That's how I know this is serious,
right like that? That's not normal?
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Yeah, No, I've seen you play VR horror games and
you dove over there. That is I have radio.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
I definitely share those almost passing out. I forget what
the roller coaster roller? What was that roller coaster horror
game that you were on?
Speaker 1 (16:07):
It was a spider. He's on the ground going.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Oh shit, oh shit, exactly how I'll reacting the real
you know what?
Speaker 1 (16:15):
All right? All right?
Speaker 2 (16:16):
