Power Rangers are back — but not in the way you think! In this episode, we’re talking about Power Rangers Re-Ignition, the brand-new live-action web series produced by Buck Wild Media with Playmates Toys and Ninja Kidz TV. With a more cinematic and grounded tone, fresh costumes, and a new cast, this project looks to separate itself from the campier Rangers of the past. But don’t get it twisted — this isn’t the big Disney+/Hulu reboot coming in 2026.

We break down the details, compare it to the upcoming reboot, and speculate on what Re-Ignition means for the Power Rangers brand moving forward. Will it light the spark fans have been waiting for, or just be another morphin’ misfire?

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Bad com podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
What's going on?

Speaker 3 (00:10):
I'm Baby Hueye and I'm joined by my co host MENTI.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Yeah, damn right, I love it. I love the role reversal.
It makes me so happy. Lead away, my friend, lead away.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
I'm not going to reverse role playing here, but uh.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
A little bit right now we are. Yeah, I'm a
little passenger princess. I'm into it. Let's go. Hey, now
take me through this wonderful world of Power Rangers, Baby Huey.
I'm so excited.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
So I basically saw him Power Anger News and I said, hey,
who wants to hop on talk with me?

Speaker 2 (00:40):
And guess who said, I'll hop on with you.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Of course I would, Of course I would. I said.
We went as far as to put on a Power
Ranger helmet and try and do this thing before that
didn't work, got.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
A little hot and sweaty and did not work. It
did not work, all right. So there's been a lot
of news back and forth with Hasbro sold the toy
rights to Playmates, and then there was all this rumor
and rumor that they were going to reboot the Power
Rangers and make it dark and gritty. There was talks

(01:12):
of maybe an animated show there was talks of a lot,
you know, rebooting as a live action show, and then
for the last couple of years we haven't really heard
anything much.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Last I heard was Hasburro was making the Netflix show.
That's that's been done. That has ultimately.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Been put on the back burner.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Yeah, so I don't know what Power Rangers in Netflix.
I feel like that's it feels like.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Home now to me, Powerrangers in Netflix. If Netflix did
a parent show, it would be kind of like that
James Vanderbeek short film that was cool. But yeah, that
kind of got put in the back burner because they
couldn't come up with a direction that they wanted to
from what I've been reading.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
So that got squashed. But now they this.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Thing came out of the blue. I didn't really know
about this. There's a company called Ninja Kids TV on
YouTube and they have partnered with buck Wild Media in
collaboration with Playmates because Playmates owns the toy rights now
to Power Rangers.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
That's crazy one do they sell when it has bros?

Speaker 3 (02:22):
So I don't remember that about a year or so
ago and the Playmates toys just started hitting shells within
the last couple of weeks.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Oh wow, actually, wow, actually fine.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Actually I may have the new Green Ranger here.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Oh that's like, well we had growing up. Yeah, a
picture that they had them at Walmart. She was like,
look what they bring it back?

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Yes, yeah, So these are the Playmates versions. They're doing
two different versions of these flip heads, the old school
flip Heed Rangers, and then they're also doing non flip heads.
They aren't geared towards collectors.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
They're just.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Yeah, that's all I want. So why don't we have
the Power Acts. I'm just gonna ask four features. Since
I've got you here, we've been trying to figure out
he wants the Power Acts more than anything else. And
for some reason, they sell every single one of their weapons,
but the Power Acts.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
And that was next on the line for Hasbro to do.
And then Hasbro sold the right damn because they did
the Power Sword first. And they actually, you know, they
still you know.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
What you wanted to be the Big Gun. You want
to put them all under the Big Gun on your
wall with Saba above and what's it called? Maybe even
the Gold Ranger staff. Look for all those who are
not aware, since this is rare, we get to go
into such detail about power Rangers. This new format allows
us to do this. I am a power Ranger novice.

(03:45):
I really am just mighty morphin and that's about it.
A little bit of the zeo, but not really. But Huey,
on the other hand, is gigantoid. He is the biggest
Power Ranger fanatic I've ever met. Now we will rival
each other on Jason David Frank Gold Ranger stuff. But
he does have a whole shelf. That's true. A whole shelf,
that's true. That's true. I got a signature behind my head,

(04:07):
but you know that is a whole self.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
And you got a personal training lesson with him, that's true.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
I did get a personal training lesson.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Is so screw you.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
But that just goes to show how much of a
sweetheart Jason David Frank is more than it is about.
Because I was on this, it was some random person
on the set. He's like, you want to learn this up?

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Cool?

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Yeah, if anybody else does that, don't don't follow strangers.
But Jason David Frank canyan a van for you mental
you want to Yeah, that pulls up in a green
Ranger helmet. Jeez.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
All right, So anyway, the real reason that you and
I hopped on today is to talk about this.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Ninja Kids TV. So the hell is that? So?

Speaker 3 (04:47):
There are They are a YouTube channel that they do
little skits and stuff like that, and they do some.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
Martial arts stuff back in and the Sun kind of stuff,
like with stuntman.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
From what I've seen on the YouTube pages, it's more
like showing you how to do ninja stuff.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
And they have done skits.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Okay, so this is the new thing for them.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Uh, technically, well, how do they get the rights to
pull something?

Speaker 1 (05:14):
This off? Is a fan film and they just were like,
we're cool with it. So I can't see Sabon being
cool with that.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
WELLMN has no rights.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
That's a good point. I don't even know. I brought
that up. We did a whole beginning.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
So they apparently they're in collaboration with playmates on this.
So as far as I know, Hasbar still has to
master rights. And they're letting playmates dabble and other stuff, letting.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
Them play playmates mates that play. Yeah, sorry, I'm going
to derail you as much I know are this is
so much fun.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Yeah, so this Ninja Kids TV started filming.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
Uh, they're a new new web series that they're going
to do, and some behind the scenes pictures started leaking out.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
So yeah, I actually that is Crest.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
So I actually do have a couple of them one here.
I want I kind of want to go through some
of these with you just saw that first ones.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
There are some, there are some no ones.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Yes, So first off I have here, this is the cast.
So the top of the screen here has got the
Black Ranger, Pink Ranger, Red Ranger, Yellow Ranger, and Blue Ranger. Okay,
and the bottom picture is that you know what are
they regular old Mighty Morphin? I mean, is this Kimberly?
Is this Yep?

Speaker 1 (06:31):
He looks more like Rocky.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
So, uh, they're we're assuming it is Mighty Morphine. We're
assuming that it's Jason kim and all them. So I
don't know for a fact if it is. You know
they're doing by the same names. Yeah, Multiverse, it could
be different. Here's it, right, we saw a couple of
Mighty Morphins. Yeah, So here's what the Ninja kids did

(06:56):
some poweringer skits, like twenty minute episodes for about eight
or nine episodes back in twenty seventeen.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
This is what the suits look like.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Oh good, Lord. Oh no, no good Lord zed no
no no wow. Yeah, yeah, they got the rights. You
know what. That just goes to show you kids, get
out there and try your hardest to post the content,
no matter what it looks like. You never know where

(07:27):
to lead.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
But here's the thing is, so this picture leaked out.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Yep, I saw that one, and.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
The suit looks pretty damn good.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
Yes and no, yes and no. I know this is
blasphemy because I saw a video from somebody talking about
how this is fan art that come to life, where
they literally correct out.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Don't know who correct Yeah, they did reach out the
artists and got his permission, and he actually helped design
some of the other suits from what I've heard.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
And I love a lot of the aspects to the suit.
I do love the fact that they're the coin is
in the chest.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
I was I was getting dead.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
I'm just saying what I was. That was like the
no lips. I don't know why I'm so part and
parcel of the lips. I know most of the other
iterations of Power Rangers they don't have that problem, but like, yeah,
I missed the lips.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Yeah no, I kind of agree with you, but I yes,
the texture on the suit. It kind of looks it
looks like Superman suit to me.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Yeah, and that's okay. I'm okay with that. I don't
like the non filled in uh arms and legs it
is at Diamonds. Yeah, I'm not a big fan of that.
But in general, I'm being real nitpicky right now, like
super nitpicky. In general, I'm pretty happy with that. I mean,
it's a pretty good like rip right from that. It's

(08:49):
a modern update very much. So I like it.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
And I think I sent you this one the other day,
which was who they'll be fighting first?

Speaker 1 (09:03):
Oh yeah, I saw, I saw him without the helmet.
But yeah, it looks good. Goldar looks great. I mean
I love that they didn't really change his face or
helmet much. They were just like, you know what, let's
not mess with perfect correct.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Like the Goldar is almost spot on.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Because like Lord zed Rita, those were important. But when
I think of just a villain, if you were just
to say villain from Power Rangers, Goldar is the first
person coming to that in my mind. Oh, absolutely, without
a doubt, the first villain I'm thinking of, regardless on
his station.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Goldar was always the antagonist for Jason until Tommy showed up,
and then those two always went at it. So yeah,
Goldar is prime Power Rangers for me.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Now we saw these behind the scenes stuff and there
was no confirmation on which other Rangers were there for
a while, but then they showed all the helmets. So
they showed they showed the other five Rangers helmets, and
they're like, okay, well it's probably the first episode we'll
get to Green Ranger.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Well this picture leaked out. That's not the Green Ranger.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
Oh wow, oh wow, we're going right to.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
White huh, going right to the White Rangers.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
So it's amazing how the mask fits so much better
with the lipless ones.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
Well so, and the White Ranger may ask had no lips.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Right, That's what I'm saying. It's it's amazing how it
just fits. It fits in way better than when it
originally aired. I actually loved when it originally aired with
no lips. I don't know why I care so much
about these.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
But I will say that when you single the helmets,
you know, next to each other, now them all being lipless.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
It's weird. It is weird, but it still works.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
I mean, how is the Green Ranger even going to
summon the dragons Ord. How in the world is he
going to use a flute with no lips. It's impossible.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
They're solving that prom by skipping over it. I guess.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
I'm assuming, uh, due to another picture. I saw this
top picture with these I think these are the producers
they're in. That's the cockpit for the Megazord, and then
the bottom where and this bottom picture might be the
like Lord z or the command center.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
It's it's kind of neutral enough that it really could
be either it doesn't look bad and it doesn't look
relatively that good either. I would pay sighting in the colors.
It's probably the headquarters.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
That's kind of what I was saying.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Yeah, yeah, Like the zord has so much room to
walk around. I feel like it would be not as
easy to just like you put your bag in storage. Hey,
there's a lot of space in the Megazord.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
And this other picture public So the bottom picture where
they're they're starting to uh, you know, record that looks
like the there there's like little joy conds that they're holding.
So it's the cockpit for the megazine. A little a
little cheesy done.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
But they spend.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Funding for this, like how how involved is.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
You said?

Speaker 1 (12:07):
Playmates?

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Right?

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Uh, Playmates and buck Wild Media is the ones producing this.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Okay, And but Playmates is the one who has you said?
All they have say they're the ones who because they
have the and the rights to the power Engers, right,
they're they're racing it out.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
They have the Yeah, they had the right from Mighty
Morphine from Hasbro.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
So it is still.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Hasbro still who owns this stuff. Yeah, oh believe me.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
Hasbro has from what we're being told, still the master.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Disney also coming out of a show.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
It was going to when the Netflix thing kind of
filtered a wayside, then it was going to possibly go
oh I'm sorry, yes, So the Netflix the Netflix thing
kind of went it a wayside, and there is now
still a Disney Plus slash Hulu reboot show that's going
to be Hulu. Oh that's interesting, Well, it'll be on
the Disney plus slash Hulu things.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
If they go to Hulu, it kind of bodes more
well and we get more Vanderbeek if you know what
I mean. Yeah, Hulu is the Vanderbeek side of things.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
But that's gonna start filming supposedly twenty twenty January twenty
twenty six in London.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
Oh wow, oh so soon, okay, very soon. But yeah,
it's a good movie, like and not like it made
for TV one. Yes, like like the last movie that
we got, which I thought was great and deserved a sequel.
And there were, you know, their aspects about it that
were dopey. But for the most part I enjoyed it.
I mean, the blatant Crispy Kreme out of side. The

(13:40):
rest of it is really good. And the magazar coming
together in the ground what a cop out.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Yeah, the megasore was a little I didn't like the
Megazar well.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
The fact that he like they were all on a
pit and then they made the megazar Like, no part
of the sequence of of how it comes together is important.
It's like the fun of it. Yeah, I don't know
how to put the toy together with that you showing
me in the.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
I didn't like how they have a cock They were
all in their individual cockpits. They weren't in I'm glad
you mean one. It was very finished that it was
very vultron esque to me. Yep, this is what happens.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
We don't record it all, you know what we we
all heard it.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
I try and push through this stuff. You feel like
when I do it to you, that's.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
I don't feel bad about it at all. Yeah, this
is years of vindication.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
So so some footnotes for this new show, and they're
calling a Power Ranges Reignition, which is the name of
the toy line that playmates Range one more Time, Reignition, Reignition.
It's it's the name of the toy line as well.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
So and yeah, that's cool, that's cool. It's just that
you know, you're not the Power Ranger final Form and
it's all right whatever.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
Yeah, so they started, Okay, they started cast.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
Okay, I want to just say that I am excited
to see what they do, very similar to how I'm
excited to see what Bat in the Sun does because
I love seeing these kind of smaller indie studios get
to have these opportunities because it allows for creativity on
a broader sense when we let more people play in
the sandbox. Oh, I'd love for other studios to open

(15:34):
up and be cool with this where things get a
little bit more support from the actual ip itself like
those two got. And I think that's it allows for
it allows for a more robust fandom, and one that
people feel like they can take part in, and I
don't know why they don't support that. So things like
this is really really cool.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
Like the same thing goes like in the toy collecting world,
like Playmate who owns the Turtles is you have to
license to everybody. So if there's a if there's a
turtle toy or collectible that you don't like, there's probably
another company that's making something you will like. So I
feel the same with Power Rangers is this web series
may not be for you, but maybe this Disney Hulu.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Show will be, or as well could be for you.
It could be for everybody, because let's be honest, there's
not a lot they gotta do to match the tone
correctly to make it look like early nineties Power Rangers
is not gonna be hard.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Well, so apparently in their cliff notes here they have
the tone is saying it aims for a more cinematic
and ground it feel rather than the can't be tone
of some previous Powerranger iterations.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
All right, so they're not leaning it into the camp.
That'll be interesting. That'll be really interesting because I do
enjoy how the other movie took it serious, and I
do like as we were making you talking about the
Vanderbeek and then I'm also excited. That's why I'm excited
for The White Dragon. It's a movie.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
Yeah, that's yes. I should hopefully be coming out soon.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
They finally finished all the editing, so now they seem
to put it all together and release it.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
Very cool, So I'm I'm excited for that, although I
feel like, I mean, I guess, I guess they must
be really proud of either the script or they know
they got the budget to pull that off, because without
the budget, you might want to lean into the camp
you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
Yeah, no, I got youa.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
But I think they're going for the feel of it,
but trying to stay a little more serious.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
I like it. We'll see what see what they can do.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Yeah, there is no release date yet, so I have
no idea. Like they said, they just start filming within
the last week. So okay, yeah, you know me, if
when it starts to get rid of drop, I will
definitely let people know.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
Hey, we will. We will be right back here and
I'll be on the power Ranger ride with everybody else listening. Yeah,
take me on a tour, baby, Hue. I only know,
but so much. Again, I tap out when you start
talking about master morphers. I'm like, well, what the hell
did I miss that?

Speaker 3 (18:03):
So that's so Tommy can morph into every previous iteration
that he's ever had.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
I know you sent me that clip and I was like, well,
I should have been paying attention to some more if
this is if this is some of what we're getting.
I also like, yeah, war, the skittle war was my favorite.
That was that was one of my I don't know
what else to call it, but at one hundred percent
there's aerial shots and it looks like skittles that are fighting,
and it's incredible.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
That was one of the Anniversary seasons. It was horrible, So.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
Well, that part wasn't horrible. You might have the whole
season or the whole episode might have been horrible, but
that final fight was going. I was like, Wow, this
is power, this is crazy.

Speaker 3 (18:40):
That final fight should have also been twelve twelve to
fourteen minutes, and he cut it down to like three minutes.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
Yeah, that's dumb, that's yeah. I don't like that because
I was going to use more of the skittles.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
And Jason David Frank like hy odd overdubbed almost every
ranger that wasn't there to record their own lines.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you gotta you gotta add this sit
the command to take a seat. Yeah all right. Oh
he's missed, yep, he is.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
Yeah, so this will be coming out soon, ish Man,
we'll find out.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
I'm gonna do the first episode with you, bud.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
Well, we will definitely do that. All right.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
I guess that's it for this little quick We are
twenty minutes longer than I thought we'd be.

Speaker 1 (19:31):
I can do crush things out, buddy. You know, you
can find the show at that cop of podcast everywhere.
Align it's at that cop of podcast your social media choice,
unless it's Twitter at or x, which is not comic pod.
But once again that cop of podcast dot com. You
will find this wonderful Gentleman's toy reviews, and you will

(19:52):
find our merch store in so many other ways that
you can support the show. And we love all of
you who are doing such things coming I s, that's
that's I'm here, that's he's he's the ranger guy.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
But your he's Cam Range.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
But that guy. I want to be that guy. I'm
learning to be that guy.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
Oh, what's right? I had to stop button this time,
so I had to stop it.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
Oh yeah, yeah, I'm the guest man the just maybe
you gotta it's not making all you

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
