Speaker 1 (00:10):
Good morning everybody. This is Sean Copeland. Today is Sunday,
May the fourth, and welcome to another brand new, life
changing edition of the ninety four x Kingdom Driven CEO.
Thank You, Thank You. It is May the fourth. Believe

(00:30):
it or not, I cannot believe We're already a third of.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
The way through the year and this year has.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Been Excuse me, this week has been crazy in the
Copeland house. Finn and his baseball team won the regional
title for the first time in seven years, which was
super exciting. Kennedy, my middle daughter is a graduating senior
and doing every conceivable senior activity known to mankind.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
And then our old.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Daughter, Emory, scored her first internship. She's going to be
working this summer at a marketing firm right up the
street from where I work, so hopefully we get to
go to lunch and do some fun stuff together.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
So it has been a really.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
Really wonderful week for us. Today, I want to go
back to a devotional that I led on Tuesday, and
it is entitled are You a Recovering Complainer? This one
really seemed to hit a spot with everybody. It's thankfulness

(01:36):
one oh one, How to see God everywhere, even when
you're stuck in traffic. And so I want to ask
you this question as we start. Are you a recovering complainer?
I know people that some days can find something wrong
with anything. The coffee is too cold, the weather is

(01:57):
too hot, my favorite team is losing a Again. We're
used to this here in Oklahoma. Don't even get me
started on slow Wi Fi. You know it's there's always
something to complain about. But today we're going to learn
about something that will change our entire life seriously.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
And it is thankfulness.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
And I don't mean the fake kind where you say
I'm blessed while you're internally screaming. But I'm talking about
the deep, real kind that makes you realize that every moment,
every breath, every bag of Chick fil A waffle fries
is truly a gift from God. And I want us

(02:39):
to just for a moment, if you would with me,
just take a breath. Just take a breath in exhale.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
That breath is only.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Possible because God allowed that breath. That's the only reason
we were able to do that. And I'm want to
confess to you, but the reason that I shared this
devotional last week is because I found myself in this place.
So on August the first of two thousand and eight,

(03:15):
we opened up the Tulsa office for Regent Bank. We
had only owned the bank about four months before that time.
I distinctly remember opening up our branch at seventy first
in Yale. We had three total employees. We were setting
around this new accounts desk out in front of the branch.

(03:37):
We were looking around the branch and I remember we
were like, we will never use all this space. What
are we going to do with all this space? We
had zero clients, and we were just praying that anybody
on the planet would want to do business with us.
As you know, there's probably one hundred different banks in Tulsa.

(03:58):
We are now the newest, the small How in the
world are we going to make this work? It seemed
like such a good idea, and then all of a sudden,
it's like reality hit and we're like, what in the
world are we going to do? How are we going
to you know, make money, make a profit and get
people in this door.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Well, last week we had the opposite.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
We had our board meeting, our shareholder meeting, we had
our VIP client party, and at our VIP client party.
We probably had seven hundred individuals crammed into Mahogany Steakhouse
and into this we ended up having to rent a
tent because we had too many.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
People and it was exhausting. I'm just going to tell it.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
From about six fifteen until eleven fifteen, NonStop, I had
a line of people waiting to talk to me because
I think they felt obligated to talk to me since
we had bought their dinner, drinks, dancing, et cetera. And
I could not wait for the evening to be over.

(05:08):
And it occurred to me that I was not thankful
for that moment at all. If I had gone back
to two thousand and eight August first of two thousand
and eight and said, Sean, what would you give to
have a room full of VIPs now? I mean, these
are only the very biggest clients. We have almost thirty

(05:30):
thousand clients in the bank, thirty thousand. We have gone
from zero to thirty thousand. The Lord has blessed us
that much. But in that moment, all I could think
about was I'm so tired. I just want to get
through this. I just want to go home. I was
not thankful, so that is my consion confession. And so

(05:53):
the question becomes, how can we be thankful and see
the blessings around us? And I'm going to give you
another really good analogy. Over spring break, a lot of
times we'll go to Scottsdale, Arizona to play baseball, and
when we do, we always rent a really fun house.
And the last time we rented this house that had

(06:14):
a pool table, it had ping pong, it had a
putting green, had pickleball, it had a hot tub.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
It was amazing.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
But when the week was over, we left it behind
and we came back home and we were so happy
to be home. That's the way we are here on
this earth. We are simply tenants. We get so wrapped
up in what's going on here in our world, but
everything belongs to God. We are just renters here for

(06:46):
a moment in time. We cannot take anything with us.
As I mentioned earlier, the next breath is ours only
because God allows it. And today let's try to see
everything from God's perspective. It's almost like our life is
a jigsaw puzzle and we are this jagged.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Little ugly piece of the puzzle.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
But when you put it all together, it makes a
beautiful masterpiece, a beautiful picture. God is sovereign and he
knows the big picture, and he understands what we need.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Think about it. For our children.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
We know what is going to happen to them, and
we can help them. We can advise them because we
have been there before. God knows what we need as well.
We are the children in the relationship. We need to
understand that whatever is happening in our lives is part
of God's greater plan. I just read First Timothy this

(07:50):
morning before jumping on this call, and he talks about
being content and not getting caught up in the things
that don't matter. We have to be thankful. So here
are a few thoughts on how to be thankful.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Number one, start every day with three gratitudes. Write down
three new things that we are thankful for each day.
Number two, pray for at least two minutes about something
that we are thankful for. Number three journal for at
least two minutes about something that we are thankful for.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Number four our.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Least favorite exercise for at least thirty minutes. Get your
heart rate up twenty percent for thirty minutes. It will
change how you think about the world, and finally, practice
a random act of kindness.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Every day, do something for.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
Someone else with nothing in return back to you. All
of this comes from the book Happiness Advantage that my
friend Shawn Akoor wrote. It is an amazing book about
learning to be grateful, reprogramming our mind to be grateful.
Zig Zigler had Keys to Thankfulness. He said, imagine your

(09:08):
life without the thing that is frustrating you. So you
don't like your job, Imagine being unemployed. You don't like
your home, Imagine being homeless. Don't like your car, Imagine
hitchhiking everywhere. Don't like your clothes, Imagine having none. Don't
like the situation with your spouse. Imagine being all alone.

(09:28):
Don't like how your children are acting, Imagine having none.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
It's all about perspective.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
And God took me to number thirteen to help me
with perspective.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
And I want to read this to you.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
The Lord said to Moses, send some men to explore
the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites.
From each ancestral tribe, send one of its leaders. They
came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite
community at Kadesh in the desert of Piran. There they
reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed

(10:03):
them the fruit of the land. Now supposedly they had
these crazy big grapes that they brought back.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
They gave Moses this account.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
We went into the land to which you sent us,
and it does flow with milk and honey. Here's its fruit.
But the people who live there are powerful, and the
cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants
of Anak there. So they're scared to death. They're like,
it is great, we saw it. You're right, it is
the land of milk and honey. No way can we

(10:33):
go in and beat these giants and huge people. Then
Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said we should
go up and take possession of the land, for we
can certainly do it. So the question is that was
number thirteen thirty. So the question is why did ten

(10:54):
spies come back with fear and trembling, and two we
talked about Caleb. Joshua was in his court as well.
Why did they come back with confidence? The answer is perspective.
We forget, we all forget how good God has been
to us. We are children of the promise. Just like Israel,

(11:17):
they had a promise, but they also had a problem,
and it was their perspective. God's promises are bigger than
what we think we can handle. Now we live in
an era just like back then. We live in an
era of controversy and conflicting reports, and there are always

(11:37):
going to be doubters. There are always going to be
people who don't believe. There are always going to be
people living in fear. Twelve people see the same thing
and come back with two totally different stories. Only two
believed because they saw what they were looking for, God's promise.

(11:59):
God told them I will give you the promised land.
I will deliver it to you, and they believed him.
There are always two voices in our minds as well,
one of lack, one of want, one of greed, one
of fear, one of anxiety. And then there is one
of gratitude, one of thankfulness, one of praise, and one

(12:19):
of trust. And the question is which one will we choose?
Number six twenty six says the Lord lift up his
countenance upon you and give you peace. Now back then,
when when Caleb stepped up, The truth is both accounts
were true. The ten were right. There were giants and

(12:45):
the Israelites had God's promise. The question is which voice
is fear and which is fate, Which is peace and
which is chaos? Which voice will we believe? We can't
allow the storms to cause spiritual amnesia and forget what
God has done for us. The Israelites totally forgot the

(13:08):
miracles that got them out of Egypt, the storm and
the Sea of Galilee. Think about this time when Jesus
sleeps while the disciples were terrified. They forgot he had
just fed five thousand people with nothing. So let's stop
measuring giants. Let's start remembering Jesus. Let's start remembering that

(13:30):
we are stewards here and let's be thankful for what
we are using here on earth and then leave it
behind for something much much better. Please bow with me
this morning, dear heaving me Father, I thank you so
much for this very very important message.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Even for me. It is so funny that we can
start with.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
Nothing and you give us everything, and we complain about
what you have given us. So Father, I repent for that.
I repent to you today because I do not always
appreciate the amazing gifts you have given me. So today
I want to have a heart of thankfulness. I want

(14:16):
to have a heart of gratitude, where everything in my.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
Life I appreciate.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
I understand that it's all temporary and we're just preparing
to come live a life with you, but while I'm here,
I want to be grateful and appreciate you, and I
pray that all of our listeners will as well. Thank
you and we love you so much in Jesus' name. Amen,
and thank you so much for joining this edition of
the ninety four x Kingdom Driven CEO
