Speaker 1 (00:10):
Good morning everybody. Today is Sunday, August the twenty fourth.
It's the day before my sister's birthday. And welcome to
another brand new, life changing edition of the ninety four
x Kingdom Driven CEO. Thank you everybody, it's so good
(00:31):
to be with you today. It is a beautiful, beautiful
morning here in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, a suburb just outside
of Tulsa. Chris Clear, it's starting to feel like football weather.
We had a super fun week. The girls both completed
their first week of college and everything seems to be
(00:52):
going well there. Finlay started. I had a football scrimmage
Friday night, got his first touchdown, which was so ex
and Angela and I are having a great time with
just one child in the house. We got a little
bit more time to talk to each other, so life
is good. I am so happy to come to you
(01:13):
guys today. And of course this is Sean Copeland. Yesterday
morning we were at a football father's son breakfast for
a Metro Christian academy where my son goes to school.
It's a wonderful thing that they do every year where
(01:34):
the dads and the sons. The sons introduce themselves and
their dads and then they have a little message at
this event and is very short, but I thought it
was very, very impactful. And my friend Brian Storm shared
about legacy. He was talking about legacy and particularly legacy
(01:58):
within the life of day David, and how your legacy
is not always something that you experience. It may be
something that you are building the foundation and it will
happen in the future. And the basis of this teaching
that I want to share with you today comes out
(02:19):
of First Chronicles twenty nine, So we want to talk
about living a legacy that outlives you now. For some reason,
in my world, legacy keeps coming up over and over
and over. And one of the messages that I received
early last week, a speech that I was at but
(02:44):
I heard it from another individual, is the fact that
your legacy. We always think about we're going to leave
a legacy in the future, but our legacy is occurring
as we speak. It's not a matter of whether or
not you and I are going to live a legacy.
We are. We are leaving it right now in every
(03:08):
action that we make. So the question really becomes how
do you want to be remembered? We are here, but
a wisp of air. But our legacy could go on
for generations and generations if we have an impactful life.
Another friend of mine went to a funeral this week
of a entrepreneur here in Tulsa who was very, very successful.
(03:34):
He said that of the forty minute, let's say forty
minute service, forty minutes of discussion and remembrance of this individual,
twenty to thirty seconds dealt with his business and his
business acumen and his wealth. Everything else dealt with how
(03:54):
he made people feel, how generous he was, how much
he gave into the lives of others, both with his
time and with his resources. So, as I began this
kind of teaching, I want to ask you, please think
about your legacy today. What do you want to leave behind?
(04:15):
So first let's talk a little bit about David's legacy
of preparation. So Steve Jobs was obviously the founder of Apple.
He got fired, he came back to save the company,
and he never saw the iPhone fifteen, he never saw
the Apple Watch, but he prepared the foundation of innovation
(04:39):
that others carried forward. Like David, he couldn't finish everything,
but he made sure the vision was clear. Legacy is
not always about being the one in the spotlight. It's
often about setting up the next generation to succeed. David
had a legacy of general If you look at Chick
(05:03):
fil A and true at Kathy Truet was the founder
of Chick fil A, and he was known not just
for chicken, but for his generosity funding foster homes, scholarships,
and ministries. His generosity became part of the culture of
the company. They were closed on Sundays. They invested in
people over profit. They wanted their employees to be able
(05:24):
to go to church on Sundays and to experience and
practice the Sabbath. So when you model generosity, others follow.
Just like Israel's leaders followed David, Kathy's employees and leaders
followed his example. David also had a legacy of worship.
(05:46):
When Billy Graham passed away, the world didn't remember him
for his wealth or possessions, but for his worship, his faith,
and his message of Jesus. Presidents attended his funeral not
to honor a political power or but a spiritual servant.
That's legacy. When your life points beyond you to the
(06:06):
greatness of God. Now, how do we build a legacy
that outlives us. Let me give you a story a
dad who worked two jobs so his kids could go
to college, or a coach who never won a championship,
but raise young men and women who became leaders in
their community lived a real legacy. A coach, let's go
(06:28):
a little further on this. A coach who achieved great
results but was a jerk and all of his players
hated him or her does not leave a legacy. That
is not a legacy. That is short term performance, but
not a long term legacy. You may not build a
temple or preach to millions, but you're building something even greater,
(06:52):
people who will live out your faith long after you're gone.
So Steve Jobs prepared, truet, Kathy gave, Billy Graham worshiped,
and ordinary parents and coaches raised up the next generation.
Each of them left fingerprints on the future. But what
about us. Your legacy is being written right now, not
(07:15):
on stone tablets or in history books, but in the
lives of the people that you touch every day. Now,
let's go back to the legacy of David here real
quick before we close. David, of course, was a man
who had a lot of problems. Okay, he obviously made
a lot of mistakes. He committed adultery, He committed murder
(07:41):
by putting the lady. He committed adultery with he put
her husband on the front line to ensure that he
would be killed in the war. He obviously was not
a perfect person. If you read Psalms, David was up
and down, up and down, up and down. But what
(08:02):
is amazing about David was that he two things. One
he was a man after God's own heart. Okay, that
was very, very significant. The other one was he was
willing to He put God's desires first. He did not
focus on his own fame. His own fame came because
(08:26):
he was following God and God made him great. But
his desire was to please God from the time he
was a shepherd in the field until the time he
was an amazing warrior, to the time he was an
amazing king. So what I want to read to you
is God had told David that he would not be
(08:49):
the one to build the temple, that he was supposed
to set the foundation to build the temple, but that
his son Solomon would be the one that God had chosen.
So let me read to you real quick as we
close out of first Chronicles, twenty nine. Then King David
said to the whole assembly, my son Solomon, the one
(09:10):
whom God has chosen, is young and experienced. The task
is great, because this palatial structure is not for man,
but for the Lord God. With all my resources, I
had provided for the temple of my God, gold for
the gold work, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze,
iron for the iron, and wood for the wood, as
well as onyx for the settings, turquoise stones of various colors,
(09:31):
and all kinds of fine stone and marble, all of
these and large quantities. Besides, in my devotion to the
temple of my God, I now give my personal treasures
of gold and silver for the temple of my God.
Over and above everything I have provided for this temple
three thousand talents of gold and seven thousand talents of silver,
(09:52):
for the overlaying of the walls of the buildings, for
the gold work and the silver work, and for all
the work to be done by the craftsmen. Now, who
is willing to consecrate themselves to the Lord today, Then
the leaders of the families, the officers of the tribes
of Israel, the commanders of the thousands, and commanders of
hundreds and the officials in charge of the King's work
(10:13):
gave willingly. They gave toward the work on the Temple
of God five thousand talents and ten thousand derecs of gold,
ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of ron,
and one hundred thousand talents of iron. Anyone who gave
precious stones gave them to the treasury of the Temple
of the Lord and the custody of Jahil the Gershanite.
(10:33):
The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders,
for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the Lord. David,
the King also rejoiced greatly. Now listen to his prayer,
and this is where we're going to close today. David
praise the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,
Praise be to you, Lord, the God of our father Israel,
(10:54):
from everlasting to everlasting. Yours Lord is the greatness and
the power, and the glory and the magic and the splendor.
For everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours Lord
is the Kingdom. You are exalted as head. Over All
wealth and honor come from you. You are the ruler
of all things, and your hands are strength and power
to exalt and give strength to all. Now, our God,
(11:16):
we give you thanks and praise your glorious name. Now
I love this part. But who am I and who
are my people that we should be able to give
as generously as this. Everything comes from you, and we
have given only what comes from your hand. We are
foreigners and strangers in your sight, and we are all
(11:37):
your ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow
without hope, Lord, our God. All this abundance that we
have provided for building you a temple for your holy
name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs
to you. I know, my God, that you test the
heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things I
have given willingly and with honest intent. And now I
(11:59):
have seen with joy how willingly your people who are
have given to you, Lord, the God of our fathers, Abraham,
Isaac and Israel. Keep these desires and thoughts in the
hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal
to you. And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion
to keep your commands, statutes and decrees, and to build everything,
(12:23):
and to do everything to build the palatial structure for
which I have provided. Then David said to the assemble,
praise the Lord your God. I love this because David
was not concerned about his legacy, okay, and that's why
he left such a powerful legacy. He was concerned about
(12:46):
pleasing God. He was grateful to God. He said, who
are we that we can even give you this stuff?
Who are we that you have given us so much
that we can even turn around and give it back
to you Father? He was so grateful. So I want
to encourage us. We are all like David. Okay, there
(13:09):
isn't a person listening to this call today that has
not done something that you regret. I have done so
much that I regret. But we do not have to
be defined by that. Our legacy is greatest when we
are lifting up the next generation and lifting up our God.
(13:31):
Let's do that today. Let's don't be selfish. Let's don't
be thinking about ourselves. Let's don't be trying to self
promote or trying to be who you know, the big person.
I can tell you, having had many great experiences on
many big stages and many big titles, it is totally
empty the thing that will create legacy is the same
(13:54):
thing that will create happiness, and that is sewing into
the next generation, into those who need your help. In
honoring the Lord, our God, thank you so much for
joining us today on this Kingdom Driven CEO and please
let me close us out in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father,
thank you for giving us David's example. First. It gives
(14:16):
us hope to realize that we don't have to be
perfect for you to love us. We just need to
be a man and woman after your own heart. Father,
help us to leave a legacy. We are leaving it now.
A legacy is a given. It's how is it going
to be? So? Father, help us to leave a legacy
(14:38):
by building up others, honoring others, being humble, being generous,
being grateful to you, and honoring you. We love you
so much in Jesus' name, Amen, and thank you for
joining the ninety four x Kingdom Driven CEO Deplopment
