Speaker 1 (00:09):
Good morning, everybody. This is Sean Copeland. Today is Sunday,
July the twenty seventh, and welcome to another brand new,
life changing edition of the ninety four x Kingdom Driven CEO.
Thank you, Thank you everybody. It's so good to be
(00:29):
with you today. I am kind of in the middle
of heaven this morning. We are in Kansas City playing
in a national baseball tournament. This is the finals today
here on Sunday, and I absolutely love spending time with
my baby boy, and I'm excited to come to you
(00:50):
live from the baseball field. I'm also really really excited
to share a message with you that has been a
game changer for me in my life. And let me
kind of give you a little bit of background and
then I'll jump into the message. So my whole life,
I have struggled with a couple of things. One is
(01:11):
it's very difficult for me to take constructive criticism. I
take it way too personally. I never could figure out why.
And in a very related issue, it's hard for me
to give people bad news, and so I always want
to be the answer for them, come through for them.
(01:31):
I'm always the person that has a guy or that
can make a connection, but sometimes I can't or sometimes
I just have to deliver bad news and it's very
difficult for me to do. And I just turned fifty
two years old and I have become a close friends
with a gentleman named Pastor rich Manganaro at Harvest Church
(01:53):
and Broken Arrow, and he and I began talking about this,
and I was telling him, I said, you know, I
know I only have so much more time left here
on this earth. So let's say it's twenty thirty, maybe
even forty years. But I want to maximize my impact
while I am here for Jesus. And in order to
(02:14):
do that, I have to get past these two issues.
I have to be able to take constructive criticism and
I have to be able to give bad news to people.
And so he shared a book with me called The Blessing,
And today I want to talk with you about the
blessing we all crave because this very much ties into
(02:37):
my challenge. And my guess is I am not the
only one that has this challenge. So let me let
me talk this through. And our real theme here is
going to be that everybody needs the blessing, and through Christ,
we can both receive and release it. The book, by
the way, if you want to read this book in
(02:59):
its entire time, it's also available on audible. It's called
The Blessing by John Trent and Gary Smalley. The key scripture,
by the way, is Matthew three point seventeen. This is
my beloved son in whom I am well pleased, And
that is the blessing we all long to receive. Okay,
(03:21):
we long to receive it from our heavenly fathers or mothers.
And this doesn't matter matter whether you are a man
or woman. This is an epidemic in our society, but
we absolutely want to receive it from our heavenly father.
So I want to talk with you a little bit
about the craving that nobody talks about. So let me
(03:43):
start with this question. What is something that can't be bought, sold, earned,
or inherited, but once given, can change a life forever.
And let me give you a hint. It's not money,
it is not fame, it's not a even a lifetime
full of Chick fil A sauce. It is the blessing.
(04:05):
And we're not just talking about saying God bless you
when someone sneezes. We're talking about something sacred, something powerful,
something that is transformational. You and I and every person
we are wired by God with a deep need to
receive this blessing. And today we're going to learn what
it is, why it matters, and how to give it.
(04:30):
The blessing is a biblical pattern. So let's go back
to Genesis Father's blessing sons Patriarch's declaring destiny. Jacob and
Esau weren't fighting over toys. They were battling for the blessing.
In Genesis twenty seven, Jacob dresses like Esau to trick
his father Isaac into giving him the blessing, because once
(04:54):
it's given, it is powerful. Then we fast forward to
Matthew three seventeen and Jesus gets baptized and the heaven's open,
and what does God, his father say, This is my
son whom I love, with whom I am well pleased.
Now that's it. That's the model. Identity is my son,
(05:19):
The love is whom I love, The affirmation is in
whom I am well pleased. Every child and every adult,
frankly wants to hear that blessing. Now I want you
to note something. Jesus at this time had really done
(05:41):
nothing of spiritual significance. He had been learning. He had
been a carpenter, his ministry had not started yet. But
the Father said, this is my son, whom I love,
with whom I am well pleased. So what does this
tell you. It's not based upon works, It's based upon relationship.
(06:05):
There are five ingredients. According to the book, there are
five ingredients of the blessing, and I want to share
those with you here this morning. Number one is meaningful touch,
and I want you to ask yourself as I go
through these, am I giving this blessing to the people
(06:26):
that I love? Because we may not be able to
go back and change what happened, you know, back in
when we were young. What I've learned is we're very
scripted in our single digit ages. Okay, so from the
time we were one until the time we were nine.
Honestly even more six or seven, we are greatly scripted
(06:49):
and impacted. So we may not be able to go
back and change that. But what we can do is
we can begin giving this blessing to others. So number
one is meaningful touch. In the Bible, blessings often involve
laying on of hands. Jesus touched people all the time,
and particularly those who are untouchable. But today we avoid
(07:14):
eye contact at the drive through loving appropriate touch, a hug,
a hand on his shoulder communicates connection. It breaks isolation.
I hugged my teenage daughter the other day after reading
this book, and she asked me if I was okay,
if everything was okay. We laughed, but it reminded me.
(07:35):
Touch speaks when words can't. Speaking of words. Number two
is spoken words. Proverbs eighteen twenty one says the tongue
has the power of life and death. You can't assume
that people know you love them. You have to say it.
I love you, I'm proud of you, I believe in you.
(07:58):
You have a gift. You are very special. Words create worlds.
Think of how many adults are still living out the
words their parents spoke or perhaps didn't speak over them.
We all need to say the important words. This is
so interesting. I was sharing this with Pastor rich one
(08:20):
of my aunts. Years ago. We were in a nice
home and she said to me, she said, Sean, you're
the one person in our family that can achieve something
like this, And those words stuck with me until now
I'm fifty two years old. I was probably in my
teens early teens. Whenever she shared those words, and I
(08:44):
still remember those words. I was so starved for positive affirmation.
Number three, the blessing communicates that the person has worth
not based on performance, but on identity. Not you're great
because you win the game, but you're valuable because of
(09:05):
who you are. It's calling out the amago day, the
image of God in someone else, and it is not
performance based. This is critically, critically important. We pointed this
out with Jesus earlier, and I just want to stress
that again. It's based upon who you are, and who
(09:26):
you are is a son or daughter of the Most
High God. It doesn't matter whether you're a billionaire or broke,
whether we win the games today or we don't. We
have the same value no matter what. But we have
to let people know that, particularly our children and our grandchildren.
(09:48):
The blessing is about casting vision over someone's life. Think
of Jeremiah twenty nine to eleven. This is my life. First.
I know the plans I have for you, plans to
give you a hope and a future. When's the last
time you told someone God's got big plans for you.
I see a leader in you. You're going to change
the world, even if they don't believe it yet, your
(10:10):
belief can become the bridge. And that's what happened with
my aunt when she told me that I was the
one that was going to be able to afford a
home like this. And guess what, we have a home
like that. I mean, it's amazing what these words can do.
So who are you sowing these words into? The blessing
(10:31):
isn't a one time moment. It's a lifestyle. It's not
just saying I love you once and calling it a day.
It's showing up, it's being present, it's sticking around. Jesus
didn't just bless the disciples and disappear. He walked with
them even when they were clueless, scared, and denied him. Now,
(10:52):
let's be honest, many of us have never received this
kind of blessing. You might have grown up with criticism,
with silence, or with conditional love, and this can make
you very performance oriented, and it can make you like me,
somebody who does not want to let somebody else down,
(11:12):
so cannot handle the truth and criticism and giving a
negative news to somebody, and that wound, that wound, it
doesn't go away on its own. Some people spend a
lifetime chasing approval from their parents, their bosses, their pastors,
(11:34):
even strangers online. Others try to numb the ache with success, substances,
or striving or some type of addiction. But hear me,
God sees you, God loves you, and God blesses you.
So I'm twenty seven ten says though my father and
mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me. It doesn't
(11:57):
matter what kind of feedback you got from your father
and mother. This is about you and God, and He
loves you and he blesses you. Jesus didn't just give
the blessing. He is the blessing. Because of Jesus Christ.
You are adopted into God's family. You are chosen, You
(12:18):
are fully loved, You are no longer cursed, you are blessed.
Ephesians one to three says God has blessed us in
the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. So
what do we do with this information? We have to
start giving the blessing to others today. Number one, we
(12:41):
have to start with our family. Don't assume your spouse
or kids know how you feel. Speak it, show it,
live it. Number two we have to bless people at work.
As a leader, your words can either build or break.
Choose to build, Choose to bless. Three we can heal
forward even if we didn't receive the blessing. We can
(13:04):
give what we didn't get. Number four, we can pray
for God's blessing daily. Ask him to fill you with
his affirmation so you're not living on empty. A grown
man once set across from doctor John Trent, the author
of this book, with tears in his eyes. He said,
(13:26):
my dad died last year, and I'm still waiting for
him to say, I am proud of you. How many
of us would feel this way. That man wasn't weak,
he was human, and maybe today you're just like him.
So let me speak this over you today. And I
want to ask you to please receive this in the
(13:50):
name of Jesus Christ. And I'm gonna put it in
the first person ten so you can say this out
loud to yourself. I am not forgotten, I am seen,
I am chosen, I am deeply loved. I am God's
(14:11):
child in Christ. I am blessed. Now let's go out
and accept this blessing, know that it's true, and let's
go give this blessing to others. Please about with me
this morning, dear heaving me Father, thank you for blessing
us in Jesus Christ. Please heal the wounds from where
(14:35):
we lacked the blessing. Fill us with your affirmation so
we can give it freely to others. Make us people
who speak life, who call out destiny, and who love
like you love. Father, We thank you that, no matter
what are past, our present and our future is bright
(14:59):
because of the blessing from you. We thank you and
we love you in Jesus' name. Amen, and I want
to thank you all so much for joining this very
important episode of the ninety four ex Kingdom Driven CEO.
And I want to ask you to please share this
with people in your life that feel like they need it.
This is a truth that has changed my life, and
(15:23):
I pray that it would change millions and millions. In
Jesus' name,
