Speaker 1 (00:10):
Good morning, everybody. This is Sean Copeland. Today is Sunday,
November the thirtieth, and welcome to another brand new, life
changing edition of the ninety four x Kingdom Driven CEO.
Thank you fake applause people. Well, it's so good to
be back with you. I hope everybody had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
(00:32):
I know many of you probably took the day off
Friday as well, so I'm catching you on the back
end of a long weekend. It was just wonderful for us.
I had a great week, really a pretty normal week,
except I took one quick trip up on Tuesday afternoon
and Wednesday to Aspen, Colorado to visit with a new
(00:56):
potential employee, and that was really really fun. And then
came back and had a Thanksgiving with Angela's family over
in Oklahoma City, and then spent yesterday and Friday just
kind of doing Christmas decorations and hanging out with the family.
All the kids are home, so it has just been
(01:17):
a wonderful, wonderful weekend. So today I want to visit
with you a little bit about the meaning of work. Okay,
now this might be a little bit of an odd
message to bring today, but it's based upon a really
great sermon I heard recently and I kind of took
it to another level. That did quite a bit of
(01:38):
studying on this. And with all of us headed back
to work after a long weekend, it's going to be
a little bit hard to have a good attitude. And
with us starting a new year, or kind of ending
twenty twenty five and moving into twenty twenty six, I
thought this could be a wonderful you know, mine set
(02:00):
perspective fixer to kind of get us on the right path,
on the right page as we move into a new year.
So let me talk about you know, in Colossians three
twenty three, it says work as if we are working
for the Lord, And I want you just to keep
that in mind, as working for the Lord. Work is
(02:22):
where most of us live the majority of our lives. Okay,
we know this. I did not realize we spend the
average person spends forty two years of their life at work,
forty two years of showing up, clocking in, serving customers,
solving problems, oftentimes dealing with challenging issues, and doing what
(02:43):
God has called us to do. But the question is
does our faith the matter at work or is work
just work, and all of our faith occurs outside of work.
Studies show that about seventy five percent of believers say
they find no connection between their faith than their work.
That means that only one in four believers integrates what
they believe on Sunday with what they do Monday through Friday.
(03:08):
But that's not how God designed it. God doesn't separate
secular and sacred. He desires complete authority over every aspect
of our life, including our work. So today we're going
to talk about how work can be more than a job,
more than a paycheck, and definitely more than just a grind.
So let's talk about how work can become worship. Let
(03:32):
me start with something that you might find surprising. Work
was actually God's idea. It is not the result of sin.
Before Adam ever sinned, God put him in the garden
to work it, shape it, and steward it. Work is
not a punishment. It is a platform. It is a privilege,
it is a calling, it is a gift. But yes,
(03:54):
the fall definitely brought difficulty. That's why work sometimes feels
like a grind. It's why pride can go sideways. Customers
can get frustrated, employees can be difficult, and it's why
we often feel tired when we work. But even after
the fall, God did not remove work. He redeemed it.
(04:15):
He said, your work matters because I am in it.
So I came across an article recently that listed the
best and worst jobs. Okay, this will be very interesting
to use. So the best jobs in terms of just
job satisfaction and people that feel like their jobs are important,
are nurse it manager, physicians assistant, and financial manager. The
(04:43):
worst jobs are retail sales no doubt, telemarketer no doubt,
and short order cook which I've never done but seems
like it would be very, very stressful. So here's the truth.
There are great days and tough days in every job.
I'm in that financial manager job. That's the best job,
(05:05):
one of the best jobs. And I can tell you
I have rough days just like you do. They're good
days and bad days in every job. But the job
title should not determine our joy, our hearts should. What
matters is not the job you have, but the God
you serve through your job. Now let's take a look
(05:26):
at Ephesians six five through eight, where Paul talks about
slaves and masters. Now let's be clear, this was not
American chattel slavery, but it was still a very harsh system.
Slaves lived on the farm, they did everything, They had
no legal rights. They were considered commodities and not people.
(05:48):
Many were treated cruelly. Greeks and Romans believed work was
beneath them. Only slaves should work. Into that culture, Paul writes,
and he still writes, obey your earthly masters with fear
and trembling, with sincerity of heart, as unto Christ. Now
he is not endorsing slavery. Okay, he is saying, even
(06:11):
in the worst possible workplace, your heart should belong to Christ.
If you remember nothing else, please remember this, Even in
the worst possible workplace, our heart should belong to Christ.
Then he tells masters in verse nine, treat your slaves
with dignity, for you have the same master in heaven.
(06:34):
Paul elevates the dignity of workers and calls leaders to humility.
The message is clear, our work ethic reflects our theology,
and our leadership reflects our view of God. We all
have a choice. We can work for the man, the boss,
the paycheck, the quota, or we can work for the King.
(06:54):
Every task becomes spiritual when it is done for Jesus.
No insignificant task is ever given by God to a
person that he loves. It's not work, it's worship. Have
you ever heard someone say there's something different about her,
there is a light about him. They are the best
workers we have. That's not talent, that's not personality. That
(07:18):
is the presence of Christ shining through everyday excellence. When
you work with joy, sincerity, and integrity, people notice and
they want to know where that light comes from. Let's
look again at Paul's words. If HE'SI in six' six
says not by way of ice service as people. Pleasers
paul does not want us faking. It eye service is
(07:41):
looking busy when the boss walks. In it's acting one
way in front of, people in another way behind their.
Back it's doing the. Minimum it's cutting, corners it's, coasting it's.
Pretending But god wants, sincerity he wants, authenticity he wants.
Consistency you, know back WHEN i was on the farm
with my dad working, cattle we had to. Finish, okay
(08:03):
it didn't matter if it was dark or if it was.
Cold it didn't. Matter if you, know if the cattle
got out in the middle of the, night or a
heifer was having a baby. Calf you did the. Work
nobody asks do you feel like? It you just did the.
Work excellence isn't about. Feelings it's about. Faithfulness The bible
(08:24):
says in Tewod corinthians ten thirty, one whatever you, do
do all to the glory Of. God god sees every,
moment every second at your. Job christ is working through.
You And paul promises In ephesians, six verse, eight whatever
good anyone does, this he will receive back from The.
Lord there is no traffic jam in front Of god's.
(08:46):
Reward he sees, it he counts, it he blesses it
in that. Moment so now let's get super practical as we.
Close here are four ways you can transform your, workplace your,
team your, culture and your. Purpose number, one work Like
christ and For. Christ jesus was the hardest working person
(09:07):

yes that includes your. Job you're not here by Accident,
god since you. Here it might be for a, season
(09:30):
it might be for a long, time But he sent you.
Here number, two we need to obey with a worshipful,
attitude just Like paul tells, us not for, praise not for,
recognition not for the applause of, people but with a
heart of. Worship the why behind your work determines the
quality of your. Work perspective is. Everything are you shaping
(09:53):
a rock or building a cathedral for the glory of
The Living. God workers who Built Notre Dame cathedral spent
one hundred and eighty two years on. It many never
saw the finished product they were working, on but they
worked with reverence because they believed what they were doing
was For god's. Glory and there's a great story about
(10:16):
where the architect for the building was visiting the side
and he walked up to two different people who were brick,
masons and one of them he, said you, know what
are you doing? Here and he, Said i'm just slapping
one brick on the other and the other one he,
said what are you doing? Here and he, SAID i am.
BUILDING i am putting an important part in building the
most beautiful cathedral ever for the glory Of. God it's
(10:40):
the same work and a different. Perspective number, three we
need to raise the bar wherever we. Go we should
improve whatever room we walk. Into your, attitude your, excellence your,
kindness your, joy your. Integrity Allan Stein. Jr talks about
the work assists doing the small things that help us to.
WIN a, compliment a sincere how are you a helping?
(11:04):
Hand ten small acts of encouragement per day should be our.
Goal ten every day compliments opening a door for, someone encouraging,
them saying something, kind helping them in the smallest. Ways
ten per. Day that's twenty four hundred impact moments per.
Year in small seeds become big. Fruit number four we
(11:26):
should keep the final payday in, view not the, paycheck
not the goal, watch not the, bonus not the, promotion
the eternal. Reward we Are christ followers first and employees.
Second even if you have nothing in this, world if
you Have, christ you have. Everything and one day we
(11:46):
will stand Before him and give an, account not for
the job, title but for the. Faithfulness now to managers and,
leaders very important that you hear. This and If jian
six' nine it, says mass do the same. To them stop,
your Threatening for he is both their master and yours.
In heaven leaders this part is. For you we need
(12:09):
to lead, with, humility, respect, fairness compassion, no favoritism. No
partiality why because we also have a master. In heaven
we have the same master as. Our employees we're in,
middle management whether we want to be, or not and
we will give an account for. Our leadership leadership. Is
stewardship people are not assets. Or commodities they are image Bearers.
(12:33):
Of god so, in conclusion let's go. To work what
do we do with all? Of this we go to
work not just to get things done or to meet
metrics or to, satisfy customers not just to earn, a
living but To, honor christ to, serve people to shine,
his light To build, his kingdom to make our workplace
(12:54):
Better because god placed. Us here Work, like christ Work,
For Christ, honor christ And let christ shine through. Your
work so today and tomorrow more in particularly when we
walk in and It's a monday and nobody really wants to,
Be there let's walk in with joy in, our hearts
purpose in, our souls and excellence in. Our, Hands everybody
(13:19):
let's go to work and please bow with me Dear,
HEAVING father i pray that we would all see the
meaning of our, work today that we would no longer
see it as, a job but we would see it
as a, mission field that every day is an opportunity
for us To, glorify you to be kind, to others
(13:40):
so that they would look at us, and, go man
there's something different about, that guy something different about. That
lady what? Is it and we can tell them It,
Is Jesus, Christ father help us to be a light
for you at a world that needs it. So Badly in.
