Speaker 1 (00:10):
Good morning everybody. This is Sean Copeland. Today is Sunday,
March the thirtieth, and welcome to another brand new, life
changing edition of the ninety four x Kingdom Driven CEO. Well, guys,
I'm so excited to be with you today. I am

(00:32):
actually going to give you a preview of a message
that I'm going to share in our church in about
an hour and forty minutes. And I love it so
much I want to share it here with you, and
then I will be sharing a little longer version later
on this morning. Had a good week, very very hectic week.
Finn had an awesome week with baseball. Kennedy and Emory

(00:56):
both had great weeks at school. To be headed back
out of town here next week to Florida and Kansas City,
so it was nice being in the office. We had
our board meeting this week, so it was a very
very busy week. But Friday evening, we had gotten home

(01:17):
and Angela and I were talking. We're watching a little
bit of basketball, and she was telling me about this
amazing person that she had dealt with at Waburger. Her
name was Sheila. Angela had called in to get some
breakfast biscuits. These honey biscuits that everybody loves.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
For the baseball team, it was.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Our turn to provide them the meal, and the game
was pretty early on Saturday, so she had reached out
on Friday. Excuse me, So she had reached out to
this individual and she was just so amazingly helpful. And
then when she came to pick up the biscuits, she
had done all kinds of little special things for her

(02:00):
and put little treats in the baskets and gave each
of them an apple, gave her a couple of gift cards.
It was just so unusual and so cool that it
got me thinking about Colossians three twenty three. Just a
little bit of background before I jump into this. So
you know, Paul wrote nine letters to churches in the

(02:21):
New Testament, Okay, Romans first and second, Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians,
Colossians first and second, Thessalonians. He also wrote four letters
to individuals, two to Timothy, one to Titus, and one
to Philemon. So he was big time on writing letters.
Colossians three was part of his letters to the church

(02:42):
at Colossa, a city in Asia Minor, which is really
modern day Turkey, and they were having some issues from
false teachings and practices, so some things were creeping in
he had been told about in his way. They didn't
have email, they didn't have phone, so his way of
communicating to them was to write him a letter to

(03:05):
try to get him back on the right path. But
in that letter, excuse me Verse twenty three says, whatever
you do, work at it with all your heart as
working for the Lord, not for human masters.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
So here's the key.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Whatever you do, And I want us to think about
this for a second. Has anybody out there listening to
me ever had a job you don't love every single
minute of Have you ever had to clean out a
teenager's car? Have you ever had to do their laundry
with no thanks? Have you ever worked in customer service?
Have you worked for a boss you didn't like? Have

(03:42):
you ever worked with people who took credit for your work?
Have you ever been a boss for employees who were
ungrateful and very very difficult? Colassians three twenty three says,
whatever you do, not just the glamorous stuff, not just
sundays or trips. That's folding laundry, changing diapers, grading papers, cooking, dinner,

(04:04):
sitting in traffic, all of it. Whatever you do includes
vacuuming up cheerios from the minivan floor for the third
time this week. It includes Monday mornings, annoying bosses, and
PTA meetings with too much drama and not enough snacks.
And Paul says, do it with all your heart, like
you're doing it for Jesus. Wait, even that, yes, even that.

(04:29):
So we want to make four points today that are
going to help us work or do whatever we are
doing with all our heart as working for the Lord.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Whatever.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
When it says whatever, it means everything, the Greek word
for whatever. In this verse, it literally means whatever.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
There's no secret code.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
There is no loophole, not just when people are watching,
not just when you feel inspired, not just when there's
a raise or applause coming. And if you think about
a perfect example of this is David. Before David was king,
before he slayed Goliath, he was a shepherd. And you
know what shepherds did. They watched sheep poop and they

(05:10):
yelled at woods. That was their primary job description. Nobody
saw that job and thought career goal, okay, But David
did it faithfully, and God used that time to shape
a king. David didn't become king when he got the crown.
He became king while slinging while slinging rocks at lions
in the wilderness. So let's take a look at first

(05:33):
Samuel sixteen eleven through thirteen. Then Samuel said, are these
all the sons you have? Jesse replied, there is still
the youngest, but he is tending the sheep. Samuel said,
sen for him, and let us not sit here until
he comes. So he sent for him, and when he came,
he was ready and had a healthy look. Then the
Lord said, arise, anoint him, for this is he. This

(05:56):
passage describes how Samuel, who was seeking a new king
after sauls is directed by God to Jesse's house in Bethlehem.
Jesse's sons are presented, but none are chosen by God. Finally, David,
who is tending the sheep, is brought in and Samuel
annoints him with oil, signifying God's choice. Now, let's take
a look at seventeen thirty four through thirty seven.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
To give us a feel for what the job was like.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
David said to Saul, your servant has been tending his
father's sheep. When a lion or a bear came and
took a lamb from the flock, I would go after it,
strike it down and rescue the lamb from its mouth.
And if it came after me, I would strike it
down with my hand and kill it. A lion, Okay,
a lion. Let me just reiterate this. Your servant has

(06:41):
also killed both lions and bears, and the Lord has
delivered you into my hand. David, who is now a
young man, uses his skills as a shepherd, particularly his
ability to protect the flock from wild animals, to illustrate
his confidence in God and his ability to defeat Goliath.

(07:03):
So David's not so great job prepared him to be king.
Now here are some real life examples of this. Oprah Winfrey.
Oprah was born in rural Mississippi to a teenage single
mother and grew up.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
In severe poverty.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
She wore potato sacks as dresses, was raising a home
without running water, and endured significant trauma and abuse in
her early years. She began working in local media in
her teens and eventually landed a job as a talk
show host in Chicago. Their authenticity, emotional intelligence, and hard
work transformed the Oprah Winfrey Show into a cultural phenomenon.

(07:38):
She's now a billionaire media mogul, philanthropist, actress, and one
of the most influential women in the world. Oprah says,
the biggest adventure you can take is to live the
life of your dreams. Howard Schultz, the founder of Starbucks,
grew up in a Brooklyn housing project, the son of
a truck driver. He described his childhood is financially and

(08:01):
emotionally challenging. His family never owned a home and money
was always tight. After college, he worked in sales and
eventually joined a small coffee company, Starbucks. Inspired by a
trip to Italy, he had a vision for a cafe
style coffee shop in America. Despite being told it wouldn't work,
he pushed forward. He purchased a very small coffee shop

(08:23):
in Seattle and then transferred Starbucks into a global brand
with over thirty thousand stores worldwide. He said, dream more
than others think practical, expect more than others think possible.
The final one is Abraham Lincoln. Born in a one
room log cabin in Kentucky, Lincoln had less than a

(08:44):
year of formal education. He did farm work, split rails,
and read books by candlelight. Life was hard and money
was scarce. He taught himself law, became a respected lawyer,
then entered politics. He faced multiple failures, lost several elections
before eventually becoming the sixteenth President of the United States.

(09:04):
Lincoln is remembered as one of the greatest presidents in
US history, leading the nation through the Civil War and
working to end slavery. He said, the best way to
predict your future is to create it. These stories remind
us that where you start doesn't define where you finish.
Hard work, grit, faith, and resilience can carry anyone from

(09:26):
the bottom to the top.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
But you have to work unto the.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
Lord and not for the immediate gratification of what you
were doing in that moment. Point number two is we
work for an audience of one, Paul says as working
for the Lord, not for men. This verse changes everything
about your attitude because your boss isn't your boss.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Your boss is Jesus.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Scrubbing toilets for Jesus, filing spreadsheets for Jesus, setting in
traffic with a worship playlist, and road rage yep for Jesus.
If you wouldn't do it that way for Jesus, maybe
don't do it that way at all, unless you think
Jesus is okay with throwing your McDonald's bag onto the
street to avoid the onion smell in your car. Joseph

(10:14):
is a great example of this. He gets sold into slavery,
ends up working in Potiphar's house, then gets wrongly accused
and lands in prison. But he keeps working hard, keeps
showing integrity. Eventually he's running Egypt.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Why because he's worked.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
Faithfully no matter where he was. You can't always control
your job, you can always control your work ethic. Joseph
didn't need a title to serve. He just needed a
towel and a heart for God. Point three. All your
heart means no half efforts. Let's be real. Sometimes we
give God half hearted effort and expect full blessings. We

(10:51):
pray whilst growing Instagram. We serve with a bad attitude.
We show up late, leave early, and call it servant leadership.
But God says, give it all. You've got. One summer,
my friend decided to half mow the lawn. You know
what that means, Just do the front where the neighbors
can see. Well, it rained, then grew, then he forgot,

(11:14):
but the next weekend, the backyard looked like Jurassic Park.
He saw a rabbit build a condo back there. When
you only go half in, you end up with weeds, regrets,
and bunny roommates. God doesn't bless laziness, but he absolutely
honors faithful, wholehearted effort. Rick Warren said, work becomes worship
when you dedicate it to God and do it with joy.

(11:39):
Final point, God sees the little things. Sometimes we think
our little acts don't matter, but God sees it all.
Matthew twenty five twenty three says, well done, good and
faithful servant. You have been faithful with a few things.
I will put you in charge of many things. Faithfulness
and small things opens the door to bigger things. If

(11:59):
you think about A great example is the boy with
the lunch and John six. There's a kid with five
loaves and two fish. Not very impressive. Okay, that's kind
of like a lunchable, but he gave what he had
and Jesus turned it into a feast for thousands. It's
not about the size of your gift, it's about the
heart you give it with. So yes, even showing up

(12:20):
to coach your kids. Six year old soccer team counts.
Even folding towels with the smile counts. Even making dinner counts,
especially when it's spaghetti for the fourth night in a
row and nobody says thank you. So Colossians three point
twenty three is not about impressing people. It is about

(12:40):
honoring God. And guess what. When you live like this,
you're less stressed about people's opinions, you're more joyful in
small tasks, and you're constantly aware that God is with
you in the mundane. I want you to, just, for
a moment, as we close, think about my grandparents. Okay,
Grandpa Bill and Grandma Charlotte. He was a mail carrier,

(13:01):
she was the school secretary. They never had a big house,
they weren't well known or famous, but they were so
consistent and so steady.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
They were great.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Parents, great grandparents, great great grandparents. They loved Jesus with
all their heart, and their example changed our lives forever.
If you want your life to count, make your minutes count.
Even the small quiet wins, especially those. So tomorrow, when
you do the dishes, write the email, pack the lunch file,

(13:34):
the report. Remember you're not just doing the chores. You're
doing worship. Whatever you do, do it for him.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
So please bow with me this morning. Doar having me.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Father, Please help us to see our work the way
that you see it.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
Give us joyful.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Hearts and the small things energy in the every day,
and a constant reminder that you're our true boss, our cheerleader,
and our source. Let everything we do be done as
an offering to you, and we love you so much.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
In Jesus' name.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Amen, and I want to thank you all very much
for joining this episode of the ninety four x Kingdom
Driven CEO. If this is something that resonated with you,
please share it out. It's totally free. We're not making
any money off of this podcast. We just want to
bring God's word to those who are in leadership to

(14:26):
help them get a better perspective and to serve God
in their everyday lives. Thank you so much, and I
hope you have a wonderful week.
